This is my favorite beach in San Diego. The shore break makes for perfect waves to body surface but it’s all shore break so be careful. I had a very good friend pass away at this beach. May he Rest In Peace. The locals here can try to act tough if you allow them, especially while surfing. Just have good etiquette and respect and you will be fine. This is a hidden gem to many people in San Diego. In the summer time you can rub shoulders with people from all around the globe.I saved a girl from Italy from drowning here several years ago. Always remember to ride the waves in (go with the flow) and never panic if you get in over your head. The shore drops fast here, hence the shore break. Enjoy the beauty of this beach and respect it.
GORGEOUS! I loved it. We came during sunset & we were able to get the most beautiful view of the waves and the beach before it got dark. Gorgeous. Highly recommend if you decide to take a visit to the San Diego, Cali. Area. Great place for pictures. A lot of photo shoots were taking place in the breathtaking scenery of the beach.
Loved this beach!!!A little hard to get down to, due to the easiest stairs being under construction (June 2017 through about Sept 2017?) Has the feel of a private beach, due to it being smaller than other beaches, and the mini hike down to it. A couple of the days it had A lot of seaweed, but still beautiful. I feel like its a more peaceful quiet beach.
Great place to relax and to get some sun. This place can get crowded so find street parking in the residential areas around the beach. You can surf or boogie board here, beautiful views and great sounds of the ocean hitting the rocks! Great beach to visit if youve never been here before.
All the little coves formed by the sandstone outcroppings and erosion from the waves, make windansea Beach a pleasant place to go and sit at the beach or for swimming or surfing. The area is quite bustling with people driving up and down the street or walking on the sidewalk that overlooks all the little coves. The water here can look completely different than other areas along the coast. Sometimes almost that Mediterranean Blue instead of the normal Southern California green.
Ive been going here since I was a kid, 50 some years. Great surfing spot. Large rock formations are dramatic when theyre visible. Sometimes during the year the rocks are under the sand. The shore break and strong rip current can be a challenge. Keep a close eye on the kids. Parking can be a challenge during busy times. Very small parking lot so youll probably have to find a spot on one of the residential streets.
Beautiful spot in La Jolla, even for those who dont surf! I really enjoyed just sitting on the rocks and watching the surfers and all the other activity that happens in the ocean. One morning I went to the beach early and saw dolphins. Highly recommend stopping here at least once, if only for the sightseeing and surfer-watching.
Great beach and surfing spot along the coast. It is a rocky beach and seasonally there may not be a beach at all. There is a beach towards the south of the Shack. Beautiful beach none the less. A great place to watch sunset. Parking is limited at the beach but you can find one in the neighborhood.
Very dangerous beach and people are pulled by the lifegaurds from the rip currents all the time. Surfers are very aggressive and aim their surfboards to take out swimmers and finding parking is nearly imposible. La Jolla Shores is a much nicer and safer beach with lots of free parking and a zillion hot babes to oggle at.
By Darren Chaker : This is a very secluded beach, most do not know about who visit San Diego. Theres a fraction of tourists, mostly people from La Jolla hear, world class surfers, and some of the most stunning sunsets you will ever see. I recently posted photos from the Bahamas on my FB page, and more friends liked my sunset photos from Windansea. Well known place for La Jolla High School kids to relax after school during the week, wedding photos, yoga enthusiasts, and all else who want to get away from a crowded - tourist type - beach.

2022-05-14This is truly a hidden gem of a beach! Be careful of the powerful waves, they can come up quick and surprise you... but other than that, it is a gorgeous place to catch some sun and take some photos. My husband also loves to dive and see the ocean life... it is not uncommon to see leopard sharks and garabaldi fish. In the low tide you can find non stinging anemones in the rocks ledges and a few small crabs... very cool and interesting. I am always happy when I come here :)

2021-09-16Beautiful place to sit and watch the sunset. Stairs lead to the cove area below. Wish the sidewalk was wider and cars would drive a little slower.

2022-02-21First trip to a California beach and I’ve got to say, Hank Moody couldn’t be prouder. If you can’t arrive by Mercedes, any car will do - the view is beautiful enough on its own.

2021-08-16House shopping here in the last few years had been the easiest, tough choice I have been faced with. This is one of my favorite places in the world and if you know anything about oceans or beaches and views then, you can imagine.

2021-05-17I love this beach. So many beautiful rocks and scenic views. When sitting out, allow a good amount of space between your beach bags or other items and the water because the shorebreak is strong and can pull your belongings in.The beach is a reef break. You have to swim past the rough shorebreak but then youre in deep water because it drops off quick. Only the most experienced swimmers should challenge these waters without fins.Surfers are local and territorial, but out of the water the vibe is very laid back.Aa a result of the strong current, the shape of the beach changes throughout the year. In winter, you can walk into sea caves at the lowest tides.

2020-09-06Usually, Its very crowded here. Good luck finding a parking space during the weekends! The beach itself is fantastic for the ones in love with water and water sports. Nice place to people watch too. Its illegal to drink on the beach and it is enforced. So, keep your beer cans at home guys!

2019-03-06This is the most beautiful beach and can get packed at times during height of warm weather. Lot of weddings happen here. We love it I go nearly once a week to look at and hear the ocean. The iconic shack is amazing and still there. The surf can be pretty crazy but more off to the sides. Summer is amazing here.I have taken so many pictures and share a few of them here.

2020-06-01Local in water are punks, ....dont let your kids under 18 go out. Locals like to see them, and or....get close and toss their longboard at them! No joke! The bathroom is a mobile bathroom, super gross at all times! Good wheelchair accessibility. Food up the street 5 minutes walk. Dont lose your parking spot! Locals are mostly right side of the shack because they have FOMO. Visitors, and tourist are safer on the left side of the shack. Good luck....epic beach...fun waves!

2019-09-09Great little beach. Lots of rocks onshore that make it more than your standard sandy beach.Stay and watch the sunset from here, don’t leave right after the sun sets. Stick around for 30 mins or so for an even more spectacular show and colors.
