This place was great for Mexican Food. I went there 2x in the same week to explore options.Food was made fresh, tasted great, and decent portions. The only thing to really note is that its a little pricey. Although with the current inflation (at the time of this review), I can understand they have costs too.
I only gave this place 4 stars for the fact that I did not eat indoors. So 4 stars for the drive up window the food was great. I ordered The rolled tacos and they were Piled high with cheese guacamole sour cream and salsa on the side Very good eats , especially late at night
Service and food SUCKED!! I should have trusted the prior negative reviews. As I received my food the lady just handed it to me - didnโt bother to say thank you, have a great day - she didnโt say anything just walked away. Also, when I ordered I asked for NO guacamole in my California burrito - they put guacamole in the burrito. The meat in the burrito wasnโt even warm when I bit into it. Steer clear of this place of even if you donโt mind โnot so good Mexican foodโ.
Such good food. Sooooo slow. I live within 2 blocks of this place and walk-in is great. But anytime I do drive through takes FOREVER (which I do especially after 10pm). Doesnโt matter if Iโm second in line or 10th. Iโll keep coming back because the food is ๐ but hope the time of service will catch up because Iโd come more often.
On the road a little after midnight, I suddenly had a strong craving for a super nacho. Through Google, my son found Vallarta Express as it was still open. Wow, this will be one drive-through experience we will never forget. That container of Super Nacho was the heaviest I have ever felt. It was a shock to see and taste the absolute best carne asada Super Nacho we have ever had, filled with delicious meat, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. We also had steak fajita with freshly made tortilla. The sons had carne asada burritos and chicken burrito. They also thought their burritos were the best they had ever tasted. Perfect seasoning, not overly salty like in most fast food places, and everything tasting freshly made even though it was past midnight. Definitely will visit Vallarta Express again when in Carlsbad.
The best carnitas quesadilla! Also, Vallarta bowl with free drink is awesome. I also like the chicken pepita salad (first time I ordered it I asked, Where are the pepitas? Hint... Its ground up in the best salad dressing youve ever tasted! So good they charge $1.25 for extra) Cant wait to go back. Love the one in Carlsbad๐
Delish! Fresh fast and flavorful Mexican food. We tried the hand rolled taquitos half chicken half steak and loved them. Also the California burrito is amazing and so filling. The carnktas tacos were my favorite of the day they are big and chopped cubed marinated pieces of pork. The fresh Agua Fresca drink are great too!
This is my favorite hole in the wall Southwestern cuisine located in the barrio of downtown Carlsbad. I had the California omelette, with refried beans and melted cheese, along with Spanish rice and 4 large hot flour tortillas. Lots of habanero salsa and salsa verde, tableware and environmentonally friendly containers. The staff are all ethnically Mexico and the food is authentic. They are Covid compliant both inside and out in their large dining area. As a musician, I could perform a fairly large Covid compliant wedding reception there, the gas station on the other side sells beer. I could easily set up my battery powered PA system over 50 feet from the parking lot dance floor and space my band members 20 apart.
Should be a zero ! Second time everything wrong , fries where old , and customer services there is very rude , if they can handle so much people they shouldnโt be working there ! First time I order a asada burrito with no pico I call they said I had a week to come back for a new one well I did and they get it wrong again this time gave me a California burrito and I brought it back and told her she didnโt give me what I ask for which was a ASADA burrito with guacamole only and she goes anyways the guacamole has tomatoe anyways way , she never said sorry and replace it
Driven by this place many times in my Bar scene days in what we knew / called it as the Crawl but never tried it...now working down the street and this place has got to be one of the better fast Mexican food places around...will keep coming to try the rest of items on menu...tried the egg breakfast sandwich and it was very tasty and worth it, the sandwich is a big portion and the salsa they come with makes the place an all star.
Everything on the menu is good. And the portions are huge. The service is excellent. The food is incredible. Dont expect cheap prices, though. But, as you know, you get what you pay for. So you get a lot here. I go to this place all the time. Ive been going here for, I dont know, 5 years. And its in Carlsbad. So, you cant really beat it.
Went in tonight, horrible experience. Besides the long line and over price prices. The lady who took my order was rude and inpatient, I drove 20min just to get horrible customer service, the guy who was at the window giving the orders out, was trash talking another customer who was before me in the drive thru. I ask if the price would be better for a carne Asada fries or a side of fries and meat, the guy just look at me annoyed and said it was dollar more so my original price was $23 then he said $24 but in my account it showed $25 like itโs a not a big difference but the fact that they couldnโt be helpful and lied about the price is not okay , The Hispanic lady helping him was taking bad about how she had repeated my order to me twice which she did not , she straight out lie, the guy was just say in Spanish yeah yeah l know like still taking about me while I am at the window waitingShe mention something about my order which I couldnโt make out the whole conversation because she was trying to talk low but he was like no no donโt do that in Spanish. So I will tell my partner and my sister and my cousins who I have recommended to come to this place not to go here because there is definitely no customer service the food is okay but over price taking my money else where.
Iโm not some crazy environmentalist, but I do think that there is an insane amount of waste generated here. Why would you give 6 containers of sauces with one breakfast burrito? Yes, the burrito was good. Idea: use less containers (or none) and put that sauce in the burrito, saving you money! Or offer upon request. Customers: you could help by requesting no (or 1) sauce, or just ignore me and say eff the world.
I dont usually give establishments mediocre reviews but while the food is good here, the last four times I ordered, the same girl fudged up my order. One time she doubled it, another time she gave me a chicken and cheese burrito when I asked for a chicken and bean burrito. Another time, she forgot my drink and utensils. Try eating a tostada with no utensils! I cant remember the order before that. They should also give you a total before you hit the window to pay. I never once ever see my total and have been overcharged. Again, food is great but the cashier does not know what shes doing.
Absolutely love the Mexican Food at Vallarta express! The portions are sooo big and the food is really tasty!! They have a variety of Mexican dishes to choose from! They serve authentic food that are delicious and very reasonable with price! Definitely recommend when you are in Carlsbad or when you are passing by! :)
This place is 50/50 on just about every aspect. 50/50 you get a mostly cold burrito, 50/50 it takes 5 minutes per car in the drive through. 50/50 if you get a burrito with pork itll be a grease bomb (stained my passenger seat one night). They gave me the wrong order tonight. When everything works out its a great spot. Better than average cali burrito on all accounts, if its cold you just have to microwave it. I come here regularly because its the best drive thru burrito on the way home but Im usually frustrated about something when I leave.
I just discovered this place. This is exactly how Iโd want to make a carnitas burrito, also my wife says the refried beans are excellent and un-salty which is always an indication that they are homemade. This place is dangerously close to my house. I will be eating here more and will try some other dishes besides my usual go to taco shop favs.
The food is good but...The last time, the taco had a little piece of tinfoil in it. If I didnt have a fork, I would have ended up eating the foil. Also, the food workers are not using gloves. I thought at this time everyone in restaurants use gloves when preparing food.
Probably worst place for customer service. I used to go there almost every morning for my breakfast burrito. Either my burrito was wrong, didnt get salsa I asked for , or zero napkins. Now I go somewhere else. Went this morning out of desperation and got a bean n cheese w pico de Gallo. Guess what? No pico, even after the genius girl repeated it to me. Not sure if Ive done something to offend her. But Im over being tolerant and now writing review.
Well todays my birthday in I ordered the number one combo. I ask a little extra enchiladas sauce because the last time I had the combo they didnt put enough enchiladas sauce and a mess the whole order up again! The only thing thats good is the chips in salsa. Even the my drink is watery its Terrible. Usually the food is great here but the last 2 times its been terrible. What a waste of my money and time. This restaurant gets an F for failure for food product today.
The orange hot sauce is the bomb and nothing like it anywhere Iโve found. Usually a taco shop is a taco shop is a taco shop but this one really stands out. I visit all the locations regularly and have a great report with all the employees. Definitely worth an effort to visit. Go Moe carne asada quesadilla with 6 red sauce please
They have great food but when I went to go pay for my food the girl said it was $10 and she charged me $11! Their food is way overpriced and when they give you the amount of your order they lie about it and overcharge you. So if you go there to eat check your bank statements!
Out of the 10+ Mexican Food/ Cuisine places in the Carlsbad Village area, I believe these folks have the best burritos in town. ...sometimes they mess up the order when they are busy though, so be sure to double check whatโs in the bag before you leave. However, the food is so good, Iโm still giving 5-stars. :)
Sunday experience with a register woman who had glasses on wasnโt pleasant at all. She was so rude, mimicking as what I asked her what I want and exclude the meat from it, as she just goes with numbers on the menu and cannot customize anything and saying with a very rude tone and demanding โlet me know when youโre readyโ and left! Very rude.
Food portions are huge. The prices are great. The majority of the staff hopefully are better than the lady at the counter who helped me. She seemed irritated and was short with me. I would still return and eat there again as the food was indeed delicious. I couldnt even finish it all so Ill have late night leftovers or lunch for the next day.
This place always pulls through for a quick, delicious food option in Carlsbad Village. Whether early in the morning, or late at night, they always do a great job of taking care of you. I love the Carne Asada Fries with Extra Adobada. The salsa is always a great option too! Find your new favorite menu item here.
This place is new to Carlsbad, or at least in this location. When they first opened, we went and thought that the prices were a little high, but that the food was also pretty good quality. But because of those prices, we usually chose other places when going out for Mexican food.Tonight I went with my wife and three kids. We ordered a slew of tacos and some sides. When our order came out, they shorted us two tacos. It took a lot of work (with me speaking in Spanish to their cooks) to convince them of their error. The tacos are large, but the flavors are nothing too special. Mass made tortillas. It just really didnt meet the mark. Were probably not coming here again.
The food is not bad for a chain place. The California burrito and enchiladas are worth a try. The food portions are enormous so their quesadilla is a meal in itself. It is a little more expensive than a private family owned place but for the food size you get your moneys worth. Reason for my rating is both times Ive gone it seemed the service took some time and can use a little improvement.
I like there food. Its why I do go back tbere and have taken people there. The prices are a bit higher than other taco shops we wilke and tht deters us from coming more frequently. Today was a bit frustrating as the wait in the drive through was way longer than usual with only 4 cars in front of me. Not sure what happened. When I ordered, it seemed fast and easy, but when I finally did make it to the window after about 20 minutes in line already, they had input my order wrong. They had to make my original order and it took another 5 minutes. I am usually ok waiting, but this visit took a while longer than usual. Ill chalk it up to a one off bad day and go back for a quesa taco soon.
What the rising cost of eating out at restaurants and staying at hotels, a discount would be greatly appreciate it as a part of the community. Under new management and they are doing outstanding! The menu is still a little confusing to me thats the reason for only four stars. The menu is exceptional coming from a community where there wasnt any Mexican, Spanish, Cuban Cuisine! ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ
Lets start with saying CUSTOMER SERVICE is not even there. The lady and Man were talking so many bad things about the previous customer, literally if you have nothing nice to say about someone just dont say it. Also I being coming here a few times and its always the rude lady who messes up orders.
Food was good. Rice had veggies which was nice. But very salty. Shredded Beef Burrito was well stuffed, flavorful, and the cheese inside I wasnt expecting kind of a nice touch. The carne asada plate was good. Salad was good. The guac included is a nice touch. But its expensive. $21 for me and wife.Edited review to reflect that it should have been 4 stars not 3. Must have fat fingered it months ago and didnโt realize it.
Surprised at the quality for a 24hr place, everything is good and they dont skimp on meat. More on the expensive side for Mexican food but worth it for the hours and quality. I always get the beef rolled tacos and the Cali burrito. Their rice has veggies in it too, which I wasnt expecting in my bc&r burrito, but I enjoyed it.
So good. Great place to go for all meals and late at night. It serves every need. Bring an out of town friend here, have breakfast alone or with friends/family, pick it up quick for a random meal, come late after drinking around town. Quickly became a staple to downtown carlsbad.
It was disgusting. This was my first visit and I will be sure to go to Robertos or Albertos or any other Mexican restaurant. There was some strange smell/taste of the food, almost like burnt plastic and corn tortillas. It was in my car, in my house, in my cloths and I couldnโt seem to wash it off. I had the #3 combo chicken and cheese enchiladas. I wanted to burn the food, and my cloths and take a shower. Itโs 5 hours later now and I can still smell it on me. Go anywhere else.
What used to be Alejandros Mexican Food is now Vallarta Express, being a local to the area I would frequent here a lot. I hadnt been for a while and came up through the drive thru during what looked like the remodel. Noticing the new menu, and not paying attention to the prices, or even the name change really, ordered the same things my family and I would order for ourselves. Was greeted at the window by a friendly associate who gave me the total for items ordered. It was just over 1.5x as much as it used to be (around $27) the new total for the same items is now almost $40! For a family of 4 which isnt bad for the quantity and quality of the food. The Carne Asada is some of the best Ive had in a while! I Have been back several times since they re-opened and they have only got better. The store front is represented much cleaner than before with nice outside seating, plus they are open 24/7! Id recommend you try it!
Very poor experience, the cashier did not know how to use the cash register, took my order wrong and admitted you are confusing me simple order I like to drop two tacos and add a chimichanga. Reply Im so confused. I can go on and on very poor customer service and experience. Will never go here again. I recommend everyone take their business elsewhere.
Poor service! I order something (spicy carrots) paid for them asked twice to make sure I get them! Your rude employee charged me for them and never put them in my bag! To make the service worse! My soup container was cracked and the soup was all Iโm my bag! I believe you hate white Americans! Second time! Poor service and food too!
I often go here, but last night the guy behind the counter was Alex! Real cool guy! My friend insisted on paying, and Alex rung him up saying his total was $86!!! He was just playing of course! Later we went home and discovered we got steak instead of chicken, he happily replaced our order!
This is one of the popular Mexican shops in SD and it is open 24 hours. It has a drive-thru or you can order in the shop it is a small business and has a small sitting area located outside which a lot of people do not mind as SD weather stays the same pretty much every season. They are usually busy during the weekends and lunch, dinner time on the weekdays and parking is small so a lot of people will have to go through the drive thru. If you have not tried the - Carne Asada Fries with Bacon and Eggs - it is a must! It is called Christian Fries. That is one of the popular dishes which is not on their menu.
Was looking for a new place close to Moms, did not find it here! Over priced, small portions and rude service! Its a shame too because the food was pretty good. When I ordered taquitos, the guy told me, theyre called rolled tacos. I said the menu says taquitos and he said no its rolled tacos, three times! Fix the menu if you dont want people to call them taquitos! Wow. Really?
Passed by late Saturday evening, first time eating at a Vallarta Express, went through drive thru & ordered 2 carne asada fries and an order of chips cheese & guacamole. The carne asada was one of the BEST weve tasted out here in the North County, fries were perfect! Chips were delicious as well! Theyre green salsa was good and the red one has a unique flavor! Customer service was good as well!! Definitely will be going back! ๐
I ordered a surf and turf burrito with fries instead of rice, no sour cream. This is an order I frequently make at the Mira Mesa and Clairemont locations without issue.I take a bite, burrito comes out with rice and sour cream. I let them know the order is wrong, expecting them to make another burrito. What they instead did was open up the burrito, scooped out some of the sour cream, added fries (with the rice still inside), and rewrapped the whole thing poorly with the same tortilla, bite hole at the top of the burrito and everything.Dont waste your time here. The other locations are better.
If youve never enjoyed the deliciousness of Vallartas burritos, then you have not lived, my friend. You really cant go wrong with any of their many burrito options. If burritos are even partially interesting to you, you need to go here. Theyre head and shoulders above virtually any other Mexican restaurants burrito options.
The worst burrito I had in my life. It had slices of tomato, onions, and bell peppers. Who puts bell pepper? A burrito should have rice, bean, choice of meat, and salsa. The carne asada was burned. I had better burritos for $5.00. In fact in East Los Angeles theres a taco truck that sells burritos for $2.00 with a free drink and tacos for 75 cents.
Huge, Excellent breakfast burritos & their tacos are bomb too! When you guys get your Cabaret License, I will gladly come & play some Santana on my guitar for you! And some Richie Valens La Bamba, &some El Mariachi Loco, El Son De La Negra, Volver, Volver, & Spanish Flea!
Very bad service and nasty food, I waited more of 15 minutes for a cashier to take my order because he was ignoring us and pretending to do something else. Then i had to wait another 15 minutes for one California burrito. French fries in the California burrito were hard and dark, basically stale and the meat was undercooked. Completely ruined the food entirely.

2022-05-29Great veggie burrito. Quick drive thru too. Black beans, grilled vegetables, good rice. A little heavy on the cheese, but a great vegetarian option that has more than just beans and rice. No guacamole but surprisingly with the grilled veggies you dont miss it. Good salsas too. Ill definitely be back.

2022-07-20Its the best Mexican food you can find anywhere. The Christian fries are the best thing ever. The Christian Burrito was also amazing. The service was fast and it was during a packed night. Driving 50+ miles to come here is worth it. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for some bomb carne asada frรญes or burritos.

2022-02-21I have been coming here for years. Super good. Great bean and cheese burritos and the rolled tacos are soooo good. Best Ive ever had. The shredded chicken nachos are super good too, along with the beef fajitas.Even though I recently moved, I will still come here.

2022-03-25Vallartas is great food and good staff. There has been a time or two where I asked for no meat on super nachos and I received a pile of beef. Another where I was charged for my soda but didnโt receive it (had to go back). But youโre always guaranteed a solid amount of food and a satisfied palate.

2021-05-04Great and super fast service. Ordered chicken rolled tacos and they were delicious! A little more expensive than other Mexican establishments but definitely good food. They have open seating outside. Great location, right off the freeway.

2022-02-15This place is great. Really, one of my favorite finds in the area. The food is delicious, affordable, and eclectic. They are open 24 hours a day and have a drive-thru for busy patrons.I literally go here every day on my way to work.Chicken soup - excellent.Machaca burrito - bomb.Fajita burrito - yes please.Buffalo burrito - indeed.
