After many years of seeing this bridge highlighted as the icon of Sacramento I finally decided to visit it. I had actually been to Old Town Sacramento before and had no idea the bridge was right there. Basically if you park anywhere in Old Town you can walk up past the Joes Crab shack and up onto Tower Bridge gateway or capitola Mall road you can walk right over the Tower Bridge. Its a pretty iconic experience walking over the bridge as you can see clearly down the Sacramento River both ways and you can also see all the way down the Capital Mall drive and see the California state capitol building. The walkway itself is very large and very safe and you can actually look up and even touch the gold beams of the bridge. This is also a drawbridge so that ships can go through although we did not see it in action. On the west side of the bridge you have Sutter stadium where the River cats play theres also a ton of parking around there and you have the Sacramento River Walk which goes along the Sacramento River this is also a good size if youre looking to get a good picture of the bridge. You can also walk over to the I Street Bridge and cross it and take pictures of the Tower Bridge as well.It was a really cool experience checking out the bridge and the state capital and old town and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to do something fun in Sacramento.
Great location and attraction to bring to have whole family fun. There is a small park next to the bridge. It has some chairs and picnic tables. The view of sacramento river is nice from the bridge walkway. Add it to the list go place on Sacramento. There is a paid parking in the parking facility on the west side of the bridge.
The view at sunset is breathtaking with all the angles of the bridge and the glow of the sun reflecting off the gold. You can also see the river and Old Sac from here. Also, have you seen the bridge when its rising? Its unlike any other bridge Ive seen.Sacramento has been my home for 16 years and I consider this iconic Sacramento.A photographers favorite, be sure to stop by at golden hour sometime soon!
The bridge is certainly a sight you have to see. Id recommend visiting around sunset, when the river and the golden bridge reflect the last rays of sun.Youll have lots of photo opportunities beside and along the bridge. If youre looking for a place to relax there are benches along the bank of the river, as well as places to down to the waters edge beside the bridge.
The Tower Bridge in Sacramento for me “THE REAL GOLDEN BRIDGE” is a beautiful bridge from the beginning of 20’s century. It is painted with an incredible gold color that makes it very attractive from far away and very distinguished. It is located in an angle that is perfecto to go there at the sunset time. It has a peatonal access and a cars access too. Incredible to go on the weekends. You can go to old Sacramento, spend the day there, rent a Bike and wait for the sunset here. Take an extra time to check into its wonderful architecture and the elevation system, how the bridge works when a boat or ship wants to pass through the river with a vertical lift across the Sacramento River.
You get to see the Sacramento River walk across from West Sac Riverwalk park you will see a cool bike sculpture great if you can climb on it for a picture walk right into old town Sacramento grab a horse n buggy ride and take a few different rides. Wearing a mask into each shop or waiting in the most popular store Evangelines to buy unique gifts many shops are all open but social distancing not so much. Still great fun walking around all day oh and great fun under the bridge if you like graffiti and dont mind the litter. The photos can be unique in my opinion.
One of the major landmarks and a must visit in Sacramento, CA! The historical 1935 bridge has been painted in golden color since the 1970s. This moveable bridge opens when big ships are passing on the river. The bridge is safe to cross by bike or walk, and it offers some of the best views in town.
This bridge is beautiful. And at night time it’s an amazing view. Wonderful place to go for a walk and admire the scenery and what old sac had to offer. Grab some coffee, candy or even beignets with the family. If you don’t have any little ones go have a beer at one of the pubs.
Iconic bridge for city of Sacramento. Its good for scenic walk in the evenings. Has good views of river and buildings around. Saw the working of the bridge, the center moves up to accommodate taller ships/boats. It is called as golden bridge locally because of the color of the bridge.
The Tower Bridge is a vertical lift bridge across the Sacramento River, linking West Sacramento in Yolo County to the west, with the capital of California, Sacramento, in Sacramento County to the east. It was previously a part of U.S. Route 40 until that highway was truncated to east of Salt Lake City. The bridge is maintained by the California Department of Transportation as part of State Route 275 and connects West Capitol Avenue and Tower Bridge Gateway in West Sacramento with the Capitol Mall in Sacramento. In 1982, the Tower Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
There is a lot of history here at the bridge and along the river, which continues from near Mt. Shasta to the Pacific Ocean. Although much of the more interesting artifacts and locations have been sterilized for public safety and consumption, enough remains intact to piece together am idea of how very different things were in the mid 1800s, and yet how also we are coming full circle. For example, an intercounty electric trolly is being considered for Sacramento to West Sacramento, yet an electric train going from Oakland to Chico through West Sacramento and Sacramento once existed.
Just a beautiful bridge. I walk there every day. The homeless have started to move in, so theres places you can no longer walk to (the dock). Ive watched the bridge go up and down (to let boats through) many times and it never gets old. At night the bridge is even more beautiful.
Great place to take pictures! You see the bridge from old town. There are a few restaurants on the river where you get to see the bridge. The bridge is pretty, especially around the time when sun sets. Once on the west side, the historical markers along the walkway are worth the visit
What can you say about a bridge. Well, its a nice looking bridge. I like the fact that its wider now. I like it when all the bells and sirens go off and the bridge rises to let the boats through. At first I laughed at it when they painted it gold. But now I realize I really do like that color. I love the view from both sides of the bridge. What can I say. Its a handsome bridge
Was fascinated to learn that the middle section lifts to allow tall ships to pass. This bridge was built 80 years ago in the same style as the Golden gate bridge. There is a passenger walkway where one can view the Sacramento river and banks. River trails offer nice respite from the city and good for bikers runners and walkers.
Beautiful place, can never get enough of it. Especially on St. Patricks Day. You will see Irish Wolfhounds everywhere, the dogs are huge. Its really nice seeing everyone around celebrating and everything, sometimes just walking around for the sight. Recommended highly.
Historic bridge in the heart of Sacramento. Great spot for photos and to see a historical piece of engineering. Well, not really, but i is gold colored. Beautiful example of a working drawbridge. Historical landmark directly at the south side of Sacramentos Old Town. There is also a river path where you can take a nice leisurely walk along the Sacramento River. The tower bridge is one of the many beautiful bridges of northern cal. Traffic wasnt bad on MLK day, and its beautiful.
Its a good first attempt at an iconic regional bridge. Although it offers good views of the east bank with Old Sacramento and the goose poop walk with the ziggurat building on the west bank, it could be much more walkable. Installing bubble machines, giving tours of the control room, and a grilled cheese cart would be nice touches that could help earn another star.
Currently under construction traffic warning for rush hour. Beautiful old bridge its next to Old Town Sacramento and connects Down Town to West Sacramento. There are boating docks below where you can often see historic old ships. Boaters have caution under the bridge for drift wood tangles and sunken trees. Also watch out for wild life Sea lions and otters are often seen around the bridge.
Our hotel concierge told us that we can visit the golden gate. Coming from the bay area, my first gut reaction was who dares call their bridge golden gate? We will definitely have to check it out if it lives up to its name. Not knowing what to expect, we started walking around the old Sacramento. Sure enough, we soon noticed a yellow bridge along the river. As we approach the bridge, we realized YES! It is actually painted gold. As we examine the bridge in detail, we then noticed the bridge can lift up like a gate. So there you go folks, this is the golden gate of Sacramento. Its a bit short, but its a nice walk connecting old Sacramento and some park.
After driving over Tower Bridge many times whilst travelling to work in London I decided to visit it to see the history behind it. We booked tickets online which were inexpensive and were well pleased we went. The glass floor walkway gave a fantastic view of the Thames below, and the videos being shown gave an interesting account of the history of the bridge. The engineering on display was really interesting, and I would recommend a visit to anyone visiting London.
A popular attraction on weekends and holidays, the east end of this bridge is a crossing from the Promenade @ Embassy Suites into Old Sac and viseversa. It can also be a hot spot for disaster if youre not careful. Please be sure to look both ways before crossing here before stepping off the curb. I observed a cyclist traveling at an excessive speed; completely ignorant of the red light in front of him. He missed a stroller by inches barely missing the toddler and his mom. His show of concern when yelled at was his middle finger. Please be careful!
This is a nice bridge. the street leads directly to the capitol. the bridge looks awesome at night and from here you have a good view on the Sacramento river and old Sacramento waterfront. I tool the bridge to get to the river walk park and do I nice tour coming back across I street bridge.
Probably the most memorable structure for me in Sacremento. I was so lucky to visit the city when maintainance work was occurring on the bridge. Why? Because told by locals it rarely opens nowadays, Inwas lucky to see it open and close 3 times in 3 days dye to the lifting cables being replaced and then each tested. Fabulous. This is a old draw bridge kept in very good shape enjoyed my walk across and the picture in the evening were great. It is worth seeing.
A photographers must for Sacramento. Love this area because there is so much to do with the family or with friends. Walk along the bridge and then head into old Sacramento for even more fun. Go early to avoid loads of people walking on the bridge. And look out for bike riders that have problems with you walking in their bike lanes.
One of the iconic historical bridges in Sacramento. Good place to bring the family and enjoy the beauty of this iconic structure. There is trail bike and I see boats docked beneath the bridge. Old Town Sacramento and Railroad Museum is a walking distance from this place.
I cant believe that they moved the tower bridge. The tower bridge is located in two different counties. The bridge is in both Sacramento and Yolo counties. It connects two different cities, Sacramento and West Sacramento.I think it is very unfortunate that this beautiful bridge has been moved so that it is entirely within only one city and only one county. Where this map marker is located currently is very offensive to me.The most fair location for the map marker, it would seem to me, would be on the boundary between the two counties. This would be at the center of the bridge.
Growing up in San Francisco, I became very attached to the Golden Gate Bridge, whose beacons I could see from the upper floor of my home. When we moved to the Sacramento Valley, I was unprepared to become fond of Tower Bridge. It leads directly onto Capitol Avenue, so one sees the Capitol building from the roadway, charmingly framed by the bridge, which is much more gold in tone than the red-orange Golden Gate Bridge. Inconvenient though it sometimes can be (especially if one has theater tickets), it is lots of fun to see the raising and lowering of the drawbridge. Another reviewer commented on seeing the rivers rise under the bridge during major storms. Winter 2016 offered opportunities to comprehend the massive change in river levels over days and weeks. We seriously thought the water might reach the roadbed. We didnt know tours were available, so will add to this review after weve done one.
8/16/14A three day weekend staying across from Tower Bridge in Sac has given my husband and me lots of time to walk the promenade in front of the pretty yellow bridge.Walk after walk, day and evening, and weve yet to see the bridge lift. Were leaving a little disappointed by this fact, but find the bridge to be beautiful, even in its lowered state. (Should we call the number posted on the bridge to report to dispatch an approaching giant ship? ...probably not...)The promenade is great for bike and pedestrian traffic. It parallels the river and railroad. Amazing views of the water, train, and bridge. Perhaps if youre lucky you could capture a single picture of all three, if you time it right.
While I have lived here in town for most of my life, the area has degenerated, with hate, harassment, and bad vibes. In just the last month or so, I seem to have been the target of senseless harassment and hate. Once while doing some sunset photography, some other people with cheap cameras approached and began to cause me fear of spoiling my photos and video. I asked one not to get into my picture, and she responded with some hateful rant. Returning then with her male companion, he proceeded to try to spoil my video by putting himself into my picture, pointed at the sunset. Not wishing to provoke their violence, I stayed quiet, knowing how such people are. Another time I was doing the same, recording the sunset when some big kid began to harass me with accusations, causing me to fear for my safety. Today, three thugs moved to bluff attack a woman, and then as I was walking by some guy on a bench, he demanded to know what was going on at Raley Field across the river. I said, Cant you look it up in the paper? He responded that he wasnt that kind of guy or something, so I said, I dont know, Im not the news. He shouted F*** you, totally uncalled for, and typical of the sick profanity and pure hate violence that permeates Sacramento culture. There will no peace for citizens wishing to enjoy the Riverwalk in a law-abiding manner. Hateful and vicious malcontents have found this locale, to hate, harass, and destroy. It used to be a nicer place, but drugs or what have turned it bad. You cant tell anymore whos into toxic chemicals, its universal. Then theres groups who hike here, to spread their hate and force people out of their way by their threatening collisions and other violence. Other towns are much friendlier, with civic pride. On a wrecked boat along the river shore, the hate graffiti spells it all. No one will remove or paint over the racist hate. Beware, hate is supported by law, and attacks on whomever law-abiding citizens wont be met with any deterrence or justice.
Old Sacramento is great to walk around in and spend the day at with there candy & popcorn shops, gift shops, restaurants & bars. TheresT horse carrage rides you can rent to go around the town in, you can go out on one of the lunch or dinner river cruises injoying some music and the scenery.Plus theres much more to see and do.

2022-06-06Lovely river path in West Sacramento leads to this iconic golden bridge across the Sacramento River. On the West Sacramento side, the path traces along the water with beautiful views and well manicured landscaping along the way. On the East side of the river is Old Sacramento with cute shops, restaurants, old trains, and beautiful old architecture from Sacramento’s past.Take a walk from one side to the other over this Sacramento landmark and enjoy a snack, a lovely stroll, and maybe some bites from food trucks on the east side that frequent the water front.

2022-01-28Was told by coworkers that I needed to see the gold bridge while I was in the area. Large pathways along the river, relatively clean area for pedestrians and bicyclists. Id like to go back at night to see it lit up.

2021-10-05I have visited this tower bridge last weekend after sunset. There are plenty of places to park near by, the easiest one to spot is the public parking towards the east side of the bridge. I personally prefer parking near the destination called Historic Lamp Post. Parking on weekends is free and we can get direct access to the riverfront.
