UPDATE: If I could give 10 stars, I would. During my visit I was greeted and helped by a friendly saleswoman, who reciprocated my good mood by saying I was “a lovely person!” Simply made my day. Can’t wait to visit sometime again soon.Helpful, friendly staff in an unassuming but well-stocked store. Everything from paint to glue to paper to thread. And they will help you find it in their floor to ceiling inventory!! It’s so refreshing to visit a locally owned business with great selection and even better prices.
This shop may not look like much from the street but don’t judge a book by its cover. It is an amazing art shop for beginners like myself and experts alike. They are extremely helpful, accommodating, and patient even if you know nothing about art supplies and want the cheapest thing like me. Seems like a local couple owns it and feels very personal. Great experience. I wish these kinds of shops were everywhere.
The owner of this establishment is beyond helpful! I shared with him that I was beginner and teaching myself how to draw so I can improve my illustration skills. He willingly went down the list of supplies with me and helped me find everything I needed, also gave me great knowledge on what I needed for the medium I was going to be working with. I will become a loyal customer based off of his helpfulness alone but he also has great and affordable prices including a student discount. Thank you so much for your amazing service and knowledge, I look forward to returning to your store and doing business with you! Highly recommend this business to all artist in LA/Koreatown, whether you’re a beginner or a professional!
Came here three years ago to purchase art supplies, and the couple running the business were very friendly - they even gave me some free erasers and discounts as well. The owners knew the materials very well, and gave me advice on which comics to use. I’ve always wanted to go back. I moved two hours away recently and it seems as though it will be a while for my return. I love this place so much - it is small, yet has everything you need and is very cozy as well. It is run by the most sweetest and kind people ever. I will definitely come back when I’m older. ❤️ I would rate it six starts if I could. Thank you so much.
I recently came here to buy art supplies for school and the owner of the store was beyond helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the things that I needed. They even pulled out my instructors list of supplies and told me exactly what my instructor preferred. I was really amazed by this whole experience and I am definitely recommending this store to my friends and I’m definitely becoming a loyal customer of theirs.
They always have exactly what you need. Quality Supplies no matter your Medium.I choose this place over any other Art Supply Store in LA. They are the Best. They have everything you need. And if you want to up your art game or just start it, they have anything you could want or need for a beginners or experts. Small or Large scale they have it all.Family Owned and operated. Support Local Businesses. I have never regretted any purchase from here. Plus they always give students discounts.
I always go to Blick or Michaels for my supplies but I thought I’d check this place out. Such an amazing place and great people that work there. Joanna helped me out with everything on my list of supplies I needed. Very informative and explained different washes to me. The prices definitely beat most art stores. Has everything you need in stock.
Only really interacted with the Mrs. Boss, but staff has always seemed courteous. The bell at the door to get in is a little strange, but once inside, the store appears like a small store with a fairly large variety of product. I havent used the parking lot yet, because Im generally on foot with my dog. Ive always shopped at Blick, but Im happy to support local businesses/ mom and pop stores like this one. I also like Artists & Craftsman (which is a larger selection of painting supplies), but I know the Mrs. seems pretty flexible about ordering products you may need! Admittedly, I also use Amazon but so far Ive had only pleasant experiences at this business! (Only hesitation was of my dog, who is far from petite, but IS well behaved). Ill be back soon enough!
Tops is an amazing art supply a gem on the east side of town. The prices are incredible, often 30% cheaper then some of the larger chain stores. The inventory isnt as big as some of the chain stores, but if youre looking for Quality materials they have many of the top products.
Small mom and pop art supply store. The staff couldnt be nicer. The selection is limited due to space constraints, but they have awesome calligraphy, and rice paper supplies. They did have one Montana Gold spray paint cabinet, which is what I was looking for, as well as some basic prismacolor graphite pencils. Its a little on the expensive side, which is to be expected and what your get for not shopping at the big chains.
Recently discovered store and have to say, “this will be my go-to for supplies onward.” A true gem indeed, off beaten path and tuck away of in heart k-town. Store has everything for just about every level of artist from amateurs to professional seeking tools to craft art. The owners informed they’ve been open for 33 years, wow! Now that’s a testament of success for any small business still standing. There’s parking in back and the owners are super nice.
This art store was recommended to me by one of the associates from the Lacc Bookstore and I had a great experience shopping here. The sales associates were very helpful and they each helped me knock out the list of items I needed. They were also very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place. They are currently having a 40% off sale till March 1st, 2018.
I have an active art business and Ive been shopping here for my art supplies for years. I happen to live in the neighborhood and am not Korean. They are extremely customer oriented and they have just about everything I ever use. I havent had to go to Blick for a long time now. Plus they are less expensive than Blick for the same products. I always call before I go to make sure they have what I need in stock. If anything happens and I need to bring something back they are really good about it except for products that are not returnable which they always let me know if that is the case. One time I was running a little late (10 minutes) and they were closing. I needed a product for a job that had to be finished that night. So I asked them if they could leave it outside the door in the back. They did since I gave them my credit card over the phone. They have also let me owe them on a few occasions. Like I said I have been coming in there for years so I dont think they would do that for someone they did not know. But at this point we are family. They like to see repeat customers and once you get to know them they will love you.
Wonderful mom and pop/local, art store. Its smaller than your typical art chain store, but they definitely carry all of the essentials, and the owners are so great that I hugely prefer Tops over Blick, Michaels, etc. I usually avoid conversing with sales people, but I always leave Tops in a great mood!
Words cant express how amazing this store is. I would buy art supplies from this store again (though it is an hour-long drive...) in place of Michaels, Blick, and even Amazon (in some cases). There are great deals, and this small store has everything an artist could need. Nearly all of the supplies are high-quality (they have a huge variety) and they even have brushed imported straight from Japan!! The owners really know about their supplies and make sure you know what you are buying. I love this store and I would love for all of you reading these reviews to go here without hesitation!!
This is a hard review, because although Tops does have good art supplies, and at reasonable prices; their customer service is atrocious. I went there to buy art supplies for a class I was taking. However, I would also return frequently to get supplies for art work I was doing for myself; they would ask me why I kept going when my class was already over. The tone they would use was very condescending. I had never before been asked by a store owner why I was buying their products. The kicker was when I went to buy white paint; I asked the owner if they had any in stock, then he told me in a rude tone that they didnt have any and rolled his eyes at me. Whatever happened to smiling at your customers, and charging them without asking them why they are bringing revenue to your store? Needless to say, since that eye rolling incident I havent done business at Tops.
A family owned store, Tops has a full range of art supplies and always makes you feel comfortable. They especially cater to Otis fashion students, and if youre there more than a few times, they will remember your face, and probably your name. Wonderful people, wonderful store - cant recommend it enough.Hrs: m-f 9:30-6:30sat 9:30-5:30
Had a bad enough experience that Im going to actually take time to give this place a 1 star. The owner (a Korean man) seems to have rudeness in his blood. Hes consistently annoying every visit... telling customers to shop quickly and follows me around. Like just give me a shopping basket lmao. 1/5 The owner is just so unfriendly, theres plenty of places that actually deserve business.
Wow... Im an art teacher working in Los Angeles for over 10 years. I have bought art supplies from every possible outlet in LA possible. This place is the biggest rip off ever!! DO NOT shop here! They charged me $35 for a $15 bottle of glue. If I wasn’t so desperate on time for a lesson I wouldn’t have paid but man oh man this place is an ABSOLUTE RIP OFF!!!!!!
This place was recommended by a classmate and I came in today and I have to recommend this place to everyone!!!! The nice man not only helped me with my list of items he also gave me extra discount on some discounted items which is fantastic! Im giving this place 5 stars for price and for the great help I received today. I Will come back.
Worst ever. I have nit felt this level of discrimination since i left the south. I was born and raised in this country and this Asian store owner who doesnt even soeak ebglish haf the nerve to treat me like garbage. Dont go here if you aee blavk they inly cater to asians

2022-09-11Great mom and pop shop with good prices. You feel well taken care of as they are very knowledgeable about art and will help you pick out what you will actually use/need rather than try to upsell you. Very kind, lovely people. Support small businesses!!

2022-04-19Never in my life has anyone ever humiliated my mother and I this horribly. A few years back my mother brought me in to buy me some art supplies for my birthday and as soon as I walked in I knew something wasn’t right. The store clerk followed us around the entire time and when we asked about the prices of items that weren’t clearly marked, they replied with “oh, that’s too expensive, you can’t pay for that.” What?! They just assumed we were broke because… why? Maybe because we were Hispanic customers? This experience left me traumatized and I can’t believe they are still in business. Horrible experience. Btw the the most expensive item I inquired about was like $30, so there was definitely some racial discrimination behind those comments.

2021-11-09Without a doubt my favorite art store in LA! They have a great selection of supplies for any medium of choice. The owners are knowledgeable and passionate about art and it shows in their store! They get excited to show you the stock, especially for neat items! Pricing is really reasonable as well! 2021-06-11I cant express how much I love this store. It has everything I need from quality acrylic and oil paint to fine and coarse paintbrushes. Its all at a reasonable and affordable price, even better than the prices in Amazon in some cases. The canvases are usually on sale which makes things even cheaper for me. There are brush holders, jars for paint water rulers, poster boards, miniature decorations, clay and clay tools, and basically anything and everything you might want as an artist. On top of that, the customer service is great with the employees being knowledgeable about the supplies and are very courteous and polite. I love frequenting this store and would highly recommend it for artists of all skills and levels!
