Ive always rented cars from Avis and my wife chose thrifty this time. 1 hour waiting in line to pick up the car and the bus driver that brought us here from the airport, told us at drop off to plan to be here 2 hours before your flight for drop off. Seriously? With Avis you drop off the keys they scan the barcode on the car, check the fuel and you are done. 5 minutes max. And at pickup during busy times the most Ive waited is 10 minutes. I am never renting a car from cheapy again1
I had a reservation at 10:30am. I got in line at 10:00 am after my flight landed and waited a hour to get to the front. Once at the front they started announcing it would be at least another hour and half for a car. What’s the point of a reservation? If you don’t have enough cars then stop letting people book reservations or send an email and keep people in the loop. I had to cancel my reservation because I needed to be somewhere and ended up having to hurry around trying to get a Lyft to get to my destination in time. What a mess.
They had a line of 20 people deep and one person checking people in. Once I got the car I thought everything was fine until I got to my destination and noticed my feet were covered in bug bites. I unfortunately had a lot of driving to do and by the time I was done I was covered in what I can only imagine was flee bites. Like 20 per foot. When I returned the car and let them know they didnt seem bothered by this comment. I asked for a receipt and they said they only email them. I went to the office and was going to talk to a manager and they told me to call the 800# and walked away. Super rude! What 800# priceline? Thrifty? Going to let it go and then I went to check my email for a receipt and there is none still 12 hours later. But there is a charge on my credit card for $100 more than my rate I agreed upon.Do not use this company!! They tack on mystery charges. Very poor customer service and have flee ridden vehicles.
I believe this was the worst car rental experience I have ever had. When I arrived for a 2pm reservation, I was told that there were no cars and I would have to wait one and a half hours. I did not receive my car until 5:30pm. Dwight, who told me he was the manager of the Santa Ana Airport thrifty car rental was the rudest person I have ever encountered in a service position. When I complained about having to wait for a car which I had made a reservation for, he threatened to “rip up my contract” if I didn’t apologize to him. I literally had to say I was sorry and placate him to get the car! This man should not be in a service position, much less in a supervisory one. He is on a power trip. I was shaking with anger by the time I left there and missed the event I was going to because I didn’t get the car in time. Beware of Dwight! Stay away from this thrifty car rental. When I complained about the length of the wait, he told me it had been like that every day since he started working there three months ago and that earlier in the day customers had to wait 6 hours so I had no right to complain.I would have walked away and gone to Alamo which did have cars and whose personnel were polite and professional, if I had not prepaid through a third party and couldn’t get my money back. I do not think it is right for someone like Dwight to throw his power around, and it is certainly not right to have to wait so long that I missed the event I was driving to. I plan to complain at a corporate level as well.
I have used Thrifty for car rentals over the past 7 years. I would rent in Orange County By The airport. I went online to reserve a car for today and did this last week. The website errored out several times and said I could call. I called the number and got nowhere so I went to Priceline to rent a car and what do you know- it was for Thrifty and was $31 cheaper. when I got to Thrifty and pulled out the Chime Visa Credit card and they said NOPE. use a different credit card for a $200 deposit or a debit card for a $500 deposit. Gave them my Chime Debit and they again said NOPE Chime Bank Not Accepted. Had another person to be put on as a second driver said heres my Chase Bank Debit card for the $500 deposit again NOPE- you live locally so we cant do that either. I paid for the rental with the full coverage insurance I have the $500 to put down the other driver has $500 to put down and I am a Blue Chip Member with rental history prior to COVID. I am not happy about this had to make other arrangements for todays business trip. NEVER AGAIN WILL I RENT FROM THRIFTY.
Horrible. My mom and I were at Reno Tahoe’s airport and we decided to fly one way from LAX to Reno and then drive back. We thought it was a better way of saving money. So we went on Expedia and found a car rental for a day and no where did it state we needed a credit card. Literally when my mom went to get the car, they refused and said they only took credit. She uses a debit card and we are literally stranded at the airport waiting to get back home. So now my mom has to drop $1,000, just for my mom, my sister, and I to get back home since Thrifty didn’t state that we needed credit card. The man we talked to on the phone literally didn’t give us any help either and decided to hang up on us. Horrible customer service.
Currently sitting through a 1 hour delay on our car in the dingy basement of the A2 parking garage. Unreal. They are ferrying in cars one by one from some other lot - Ive seen a few drivers more than once now. What in gods name is this goofy valet system? Why not just have a shuttle every 15 minutes to the lot? God awful experience, makes me never want to rent a car ever again. What a mistake.
Worst experience. I got of the plane to see that Thrifty was no where near the airport. It is a 25 minute walk to their office. I decide to walk it instead of wait for a Uber. When I get there they have signs that say go back to the Airport Dollar Rent a Car because they gave my reservation to them. I tried calling Thrifty office before any of this happened but was on the phone for a half an hour before I decided to hang up. No way I do Dollar or Thrifty again. 50 minutes of walking. And a wet t shirt from sweat.
Had prepaid my reservation a month in advance. When I arrived, they had no cars available on site. 8 other families already there and some already waiting 5 hours. I ended up paying an extra $500 to make last minute car rental reservation elsewhere and then spent a long time trying to refund my thrifty reservation. I overheard another staff member mention that they had walk-ins earlier that morning with no reservations which is probably what caused this whole mess. This is my first and last experience with Thrifty. Finally, if you check Yelp and BBB reviews, this isnt the first time this place has done this.
THE WORST RENTAL COMPANY EVER - We were given a free upgrade and we called to ask if we could return the car 2 hours late without charges and they said yes then billed us for an extra entire day. Weve called to resolve and were told there was nothing they could do. This company is a SCAM. Will never use thrifty again.
Drove to the location to find that I had to go to the airport and get lost for 20 minutes, where the location was actually a Hertz office, which has completely different policies and denied me the rental. I called Thrifty and they said this is just what happens and they have no control. Then don’t offer me a reservation you can’t uphold!
I booked a premium model car a month in advance, when i arrived they told me it be atleast an hour before i got a car, i now missed my check in window for my hotel and was charged for an extra night all because thrifty can’t manage their reservations correctly, they blame the pandemic but have reviews with this same issue far before covid. They wasted my time and my money, i will pay extra and rent through turo from now on, double booking by a huge company like this is in forgivable
Worst experience ever. Made a reservation online. When i came to pick up my rental car they said they had no record of my reservation. Eventually they realized I had a reservation and asked me to wait for my car to get ready. It took about 2 hours till I got my car. They were just waiting for cars to get returned by other customers. A bunch of liars. Never using Thrifty again.
Friendly staff. Got what i needed. At first they had a hard time finding a mini van, they were offering me a tahoe, i reserved for a van. But other than that everything is fine, clean car smooth service. Great price. The gentleman on returning the car is very nice and friendly. Will definitely come back and rent here again!
I wish I could give 0 stars but it doesn’t let me. Horrible customer service in the one in Santa Ana!! I rather pay more somewhere else then rent at Thrifty again. I called to extend our return time for a couple hours and they said they would charge me $80 for 3 hours but when I called to ask for an additional day they said it was $57. When I asked them to move it to the following day instead the customer service rep I think name is Maria kept saying it was going to be $200 more when the daily rate was $57. She said the $80 she had already processed for 3 hours couldn’t be changed or moved to get the whole day because it was already processed even though I wasn’t past my due time. When we asked to speak to the supervisor we got hung up on twice and she kept trying to avoid her supervisor. Horrible experience!!
The office is across the street and underground, and if you don’t ask directions you’d likely never find it. There is not a single sign for Thrifty until you’re 10 feet from the office in the underground garage. We had a reservation and were told it’d be “no longer than an hour”, but what is the point of the reservation then? If the car isn’t going to be ready, don’t accept reservations on it. Horrible service, will update upon dropping vehicle off as I see many reviews saying that may be a mess as well.
Charlie was Great! Took his time with me and after a car shift made sure all was perfect. The car ran great and I felt taken care of. It would be an idea to have real signage by where the John Wayne Airport car rentals are saying Thrifty is outside, but the pickup gal was wonderful and the gent who took me to the airport in the evening was equally as terrific- getting his gym workout with my heavy bags. The check in was quick and I will definitely be renting from this Thrifty again!
I got a parking ticket when I rented a car from here, and paid it before it was due. And before they ever sent out a notice to me to pay it. And after I did get the notice from Thrifty about the parking ticket there was the option to dispute the charge and show that it was paid. At which I did, and two months later there is now a charge of $30. on my credit card for some fee! I am sure it is for their administration fee. But why go through all the trouble of paying for it, filling out the form, to avoid getting the additional fee.
At 1st they seem so nice and inexpensive. You cant just call to a direct thrifty location. Their customers service over the phone is unprofessional and rude. We had got a car on hotwire. Thrifty gave us a free upgrade. Then when it was time to return the rental they over charged us. The upgrade was not asked for they gave it to us because they didnt have a car available for us. Over all I would not go back. The customer service at the service desk was nice and professional. I wouldnt go again. Only because they wanted to over charge us and the phone service representatives where just rude and unprofessional. I gave them 3 stars because the people at the service desk where nice but the phone service was horrible. It sucks that they dont have a direct phone number and you get the run around. Never going back.
I had a fantastic experience from beginning to end. The shuttle that picked me up from the airport was there as I walked out from baggage claim (I didn’t call them). The guy at the ticket counter was super friendly and professional. The car I received was nice. The whole process only took 10 minutes to get my car, and checking out was a breeze. I was worried about using them but next time I’ll use them again
Just left and came back to the airport to rent a car from another company. The two stars is for Shuttle driver, because he was so nice and helpful. Zero starts for the customer service at the location..Thrifty your customer service man named Michael was so unhelpful and sarcastic and rude.He said you had no cars and could put us on a waiting list . We had reservations through Expedia and we will be letting them no of the terrible service. The best thing you have going for you is the Very nice shuttle man who took us from the airport and back.I sincerely hope your management addresses this situation. We only noticed today the very poor rating this Thirty location has on both Google and Yelp.I intend to share this on Yelp also.
Poor customer service; our representative was extremely pushy about adding coverage to the rental despite our explaining that we had insurance multiple times. Also pushed for an upgrade and the more costly fuel plan, the latter was completely absurd considering the small amount of driving we would be doing. I would not recommend this car rental facility to a friend - I will say, however, that the condition of the car was fine.
I have been renting cars from from Thrifty rent a car, Newport Beach, CA for many many years. The staff have always been very courteous and helpful. The car rental experience has been very pleasant. The cars offered have been just as expected. The best part of renting from Thrifty is not only that one gets a good rate but also it is easier to get in and out very quickly to and from their location as they are located right of Birch St, Newport Beach, CA. No doubt for the right reasons I shall rent from them again and again.
This place is a joke, they have no common sense, they will take advantage of you and its pretty much a scam. I called their offices to make sure all my identification and credit card information was correct so that I wouldnt be wasting my time. Then I got a lyft for about 25 bucks to get there, and they have nothing ready in fact Im not going to get me a car. Not only do they not have the card that I had reserved available for me but they would not take my ID because its temporary. I called to make sure everything was correct before spending money and time and all they can say is that they dont care who I spoke to and that Im out of luck. They told me I have to walk home and called the police on me. All in all this is exactly what a scandalous corporate company is all about. Theyre definitely pushy and watch out for every little thing theyll try to get you one. If you return the gas a little bit under. They wont check the car before renting it out to you and then blame you for everything that went on. Also never runs directly through them they rip you off on purpose when they know they have specials going on. These guys are bad and they train their employees to be that way... Ruthless with no human connection.
This rating is to get the attention of someone at Thrifty. I rented a car through Hotwire and got a confirmation of the pick up address. I looked it up on Google to confirm. I hired a Lyft to take me there for a one-way rental. I arrived and there was a note on the window to go to the John Wayne Airports Dollar desk. Lyft was gone. Tried to get another Lyft but the price had jumped to $25 for a mile, more than the cost of the rental. Someone at Thrifty should do a data scrub on their closed and moved locations and that of their partners data to avoid such maddening experiences for their customers.
The worst car rental experience ever. On 9/27, I picked up the car I prepaid online through Thrifty website, the branch said it was not prepaid but I had a voucher, I showed them the confirmation email, they redid the reservation from the beginning. It delayed 20-30 mins, so I asked the staff if he could change the reservation time to reflect the delay, he said I could return according to the new time (5:50pm drive out time, reservation time was 5:30), and he was not willing to print a new contract because in that way he needed to redo everything again. I was already running behind the schedule so I drove away. When I returned the car on 9/28 at 6:27pm, there was no other clients, Robert who were doing the return check-in, was on his personal call, when I went to the return booth asked him to check in the car, he began to log in the system; when the system finally loaded, the time on the computer was 6:32pm. I asked if he could change the time to 6:27pm, he changed it to 6:29pm and told me he could not change the time...I was like You just changed that, all I asked is you to put the correct time. As common practice in car rental (I rented cars from different agencies in the past year, even Thrifty should have my records for at least 10 times), you are allowed to return within 30 mins after the return time on the contract. This time, this guy charged me 1 extra hour and the liability for the whole day!You need to pay the insurance for the whole day for technically 27 mins late! I asked why, Robert was extremely rude, and said I was no longer their customer and asked me to leave, I was still arguing and he threatened to call the police. I was so angry and I was the one who wanted to call 911. But I already know who he is and there is no point keep arguing so I decided to call Thrifty Customer Service line. The corporate customer service agreed to refund, but refunded a wrong amount (less than agreed on the phone) :(In all, awful experience. I will never use your rental again.
Absolutely horrible they lied to completely about their fees just to get me in the vehicle. They also lied about having the vehicle that I drove 110 miles to rent. The rental ended up being $300 more than it was supposed to be and they didnt do a damn thing to try to help me. The people at the drop off location were incredibly nice though I dont want this to reflect poorly on the Boise Airport staff as they were all extremely courteous and did what they could to help. But the pickup location was a bunch of damn scam artist wires. I intend on filing fraud charges at my bank. They didnt document any of our phone calls and we were supposed to get free days based on the amount of time that we rented it but they didnt do that. They manage to charge us the weekly rate and switch it and charge us more but didnt give us the days that come with the weekly rate this place is a joke stay away as much as you can
Unprofessional staff and long wait times to pick up my rental. I had a reservation for a full-size SUV which listed a Nissan Armada or similar. At pick up, they said only one Ford Explorer was available,. That size of car has less cargo space. No other options. I will not rent from Thrifty again. I ended up leaving and renting from Alamo at JWA. Alamo was great!
This is the second time im having a bad experience with the staff, last time my car was ready 2 hours after the promise time, this time although the contract shows $300 to be payed, they charged me $480 and Michael and Antony , the rudest and most untrained staffs I have ever seen, didnt have no clue have to fix itWaited for manager for 30 minutes, never show upThe price might be cheaper but never worth it, wont rent a car from day at al
This guy here want to rip me off after a had reserve a car for about 130. and drop off in san diego he say that the confirmation dint say that and if i wantedDrop off in san diego it was goint to cost me 240+ dlls i walk off out of this garbage place .they take advantage of you be carefull here,i will not recomend this place to anyone
The shuttle from the airport to Thrifty was good. The set up and reservation online was easy through Orbitz. The check in was fast and painless. The options for insurance were many. Very pleasant experience at check in. The car was clean and ready with a full tank of gas. It was a newer Chevy Malibu. Everything in the car worked fine. The car rental return was painless as well since I was prepaid through Orbitz. I just got my luggage from the trunk of the car and headed straight for the shuttle. The shuttle driver, a man from Egypt was so nice and VERY funny on the drive to the airport. He made our day very nice thereafter, thank you. However, while going through the customer lobby and going to the shuttle area there was a small van at the curb waiting with the Thrifty logo. Since we took a Thrifty BUS from the airport to get the car, I was looking for the same bus, not a van.A RUDE, fake blonde, older woman behind the counter said does it say Thrifty on it? when I asked if that was our ride to the airport. It was August 22, 2019 at about noon at the Birch Street, Newport Beach branch. She pretty much ruined a perfect experience. She definitely needs to take a class in customer service. I took off one star just for her.
They allowed me to rent a car online, when I came for pick up they said I have to wait longer (car was supposed to be ready for 10am and they told me to pick it up at 6pm!). As I no longer needed the car because of the time, they said theyll refund me. They never actually did that. So they successfully scammed me and took my money.
8/23/19. 8 p.mI rent a twice a month for work and happened to try thrifty for a good deal they have. After getting to the pick up location ..waiting an hour in half because they were a lot of people in line and only one person working behind the counter it comes down to having my credit card/ debit card scanned and the machine was not reading card. Nothing else they could do and no management to speak to? Ridiculous customer service is closed until Monday. Always should be some sort of management to talk to.
Rented Toyota Camry for our drive from California to Tucson.Had a smooth ride. Did not encounter any problem with the car. The only problem was locating the rental place. On confirmation during our reservation, we were to pick up the car at John Wayne Airport and upon arriving there,we were told that Thrifty rental is not in the airport. Had to call the office for the current location and had to spend extra time and $ locating the place. Our suggestion- If your rental location is changed, you should notify your customers who made reservations prior to your move.
Pushy sales people, scam, and crappy customer service experience. Read on:I am super disappointed in the quality of customer service my friend and I received at this rental. We prepaid for this rental through Expedia and paid for the economy sized car for our stay. When we get to the location where the car rental company is at, everything goes downhill. We are served by a lady who was really pushy in terms of upselling us, after we insisted we were fine. She kept trying to put us in a Ford Mustang or Dodge Charger as a “hook up” for an additional fee, even though we insisted we were fine with what we booked. She started to tell us about how crappy the car we booked was, and how it always comes back because it has steering problems. I KID YOU NOT!!! Excuse me, why do you have cars that have steering problems on the road? So we FINALLY settle on a Toyota Corolla, which apparently wasn’t cool. This whole time, she never told us about the cashless tolls, or tolls in general, even after we asked if there is anything we should know.I am from Canada, and in my province we don’t have a toll system. Only toll I’ve been through was when I was in Florida, and we paid at the toll booth. We went through 3 tolls, and googling the prices, it came up to $17 US. When we dropped off the keys, no one told us anything, they just took the car keys. My credit card was charged $66 US. I called and inquired. They said that the additional $45 was from administration fees. I said where does this admin fees go, they said it is a secret but it basically sucks to be me because I could have went to a website and registered my vehicle to have unlimited toll access for my stay. Perhaps they should have said how things work in their state instead of trying to push me into a Dodge Charger with beat stereo. I was super disappointed in the quality of customer service and how they make an 150% profit off of unsuspecting customers who aren’t sure how to use cashless tolls. When I emailed coustomer service, they told me it was basically not their problem, and Expedia’s... Expedia is in charge of booking the car; the lack of customer service falls on Thrifty. I will never use them again and this is still being dealt with.
I forgot a pair of sunglasses in the car when I returned it. The next day I filed a lost item report with Thrifty and called the office to let them know I lost it.Over the past four days I have called them 10+ times and stopped by the office 3 times, each time being asked to complete a new lost item report.I received a call this afternoon stating that my sunglasses were not found in the car and that there is nothing I can do...I am confident my sunglasses were in the car upon its return, and the way in which this has been handled by the Thrifty team thus far has been unprofessional to say the least.
The staff was nice engaging and even fun. They answered all my questions and help me through the process. The red Nissan rogue was an awesome clean car no problems either driving or coming back to check it in. We have used thrifty many times and plan to continue there almost always the best!
Worst rental car experience ever!!!!I reserved an SUV to take a trip through desert but unfortunately the AC stopped working shortly after we hit the road in desert in the middle of now where. after trying to call thrifty or what they call roadside assistance many times, they finally picked up the phone and told us that we can switch the car in an office which was 120 miles away and off our rout!!! So we decided to keep the car since our time was too short to get wasted by driving 240 miles extra and spending some time in another car rental. We had great time camping and finally the day we came back, after driving 6 hours in 100 degree temperature in the desert without an AC, when we went to return the car, the operator lady was stupid enough to tell us that she would drive 240 miles to switch the car!!!! not even an apology for selling a wrongful product and service,...This was my first and last experience with this stupid company and would not recommend it to anybody.
I give this a 3 because the phone customer service is poor. Thrifty has outsourced all calls to a unknown location and the information was misleading and incorrect. The customer service at the location was excellent and helpful. We rented a Chrysler 300 and we found it to be small for a luxury car, but it was a fun experience for our trip up the coast. We reserved in advance and our experience picking up and dropping off was 5 STARS.
Waited about 20 minutes in line to get to the counter, not expected for a rental car agency. Screaming kids in the lobby, rude man with his phone on speaker phone, lots of people standing and waiting around because they only run 1 shuttle to the airport. Paperwork went fairly quick and then I was handed the keys and told to go find the car on the side of the building. It was freshly washed and had a full tank of gas but no walk around was performed. Luckily the car was pretty new (2016 Nissan Versa Note with 3k miles) so nothing was wrong with it.
Horrible customer service. Or rather no service at all.. LOL. I rented a car with them recently from SNA airport. First time renting with them and was unaware that they arent located in the airport premises. After landing, i was told that the pick up van would be ready for complimentary drop off to the car rental location, since the rental location is outside the airport premises. When I came out, I found the van in designated pick up area and no driver in it. After waiting for 20 mins, I gave a call to customer service. The lady put me on hold for approx 10 mins saying she would speak with the driver and inform him bout me. When she finally got back on line with me, she said the driver has just left the pick up area and that next service will be in another 15 mins. I was surprised to hear that I was standing right in front of your pick up van and no one has gone anywhere in the past 20 mins.. not sure if she was making up a story or she actually spoke with the driver and driver has fooled her. After further wait of 10 mins, the driver shows up with a grumpy face. No conversation with me or whatever. He dropped me off to the location. At the counter, lady who was helping me with the reservation said if I chose to get the car back full tank, I have to get a receipt from the gas station within 10 miles of car location. I was like... is it a new policy or something because I never heard that before.. neither was it written anywhere on their rental contract.Bottom line, I am never renting a car with them. Pathetic people. Ughhh! My review star -1.
Their open/closed TIMES are very difficult. This was not a good experience for us. We picked the car up Tuesday and rented it until a Saturday morning drop off to catch an early flight out of California. Turns out they are CLOSED on the weekends!?! and there is NO WHERE to drop the car off after hours and we werent given instructions or any information on how to handle the situation until we finally found a customer service number and they were perplexed as well. They told us to leave the keys under the agreement on the front seat and lock the doors. We expected their shuttle to drive us but since no one was there we were stranded and had to get an UBER which cost us more money! We asked them to note our account on what happened and where the keys are, etc. We recieved a voicemail from them a few days later asking where the keys were and we called right back without any answered phone call. Since weve been home 6 days now, weve called 3 times, no one answers and theres not a message machine. Apparently they go off central time for their call service. Weve also been charged almost 3 times the agreement price in 2 separate withdraws without any explanation. Obviously we wont be using this company again and warn against it... at least this location. Hopefully well hear back from them next week and get reimbursed so this issue will go away.
Watch out. I had a reservation quoted at $19/day. The guy found my reservation and worked up the contract. It came out at $34/ day. Fortunately I had the confirmation so he reworked it at the quoted price. But I dont think it was an accident. I suspect they hope you wont notice until you drive out. I asked how they could not have the right price in the computer and they gave me some song and dance about getting changed when it got sent to the pickup location. Also no blue chip line or kiosk. So I had to wait while the customers figured out gas, insurance Etc. They were putting the hard sale on the folks ahead of me so it tested my patients a bitThe vehicle was fine though
If I could give them no stars thats what I would do but yelp requires me to give them 1.My flight home to San Diego was canceled but I was able to jump on a flight to OC. I quickly reserved a car at the airport before getting on the flight so I could drive home and at least get home late that night and not have to wait for a flight the next day. When I landed the rental car location had been moved offsite which is not a big deal since most rental car pickups are no longer actually at the airport anymore and they all have shuttles. The shuttle that runs every 15 minutes took me over 45 minutes and 3 phone calls (2 of which were the operator hanging up because she couldnt help me and 1 was transferred to a voicemail system on another) to get the van to pick me up. The phone number at the airport doesnt go to the rental car location but a dispatch that knows nothing about the airport, the pickup location and was super rude from the very beginning of our conversations. When I finally got to their location to pick up the car the guy behind the counter was nice enough. They didnt have any of the cars in the class I reserved available so he gave me an upgrade. If I was using the car for anything else besides just driving home and returning it that may have been nice but in this situation it was an upgrade to a car that got worse gas mileage so... I got in the car and it smelt like maybe someone was smoking in the car at some point cause when the fan was on it smelt like stale smoke. So all in all, I if you dont care about customer service, having anything done in a timely manor and are only concerned about how much you are paying, Use these guys. But I guess the car did get me home so for that I guess 1 star seems like an ok rating. Although after dealing with canceled flights, switching to a different flight to a different airport and having to drive an hour and a half to get home, it would have been worth it to me to pay more so that I wouldnt have had to spend 2 hours dealing with everything. I would have made it home by 11pm instead of after midnight.
I generally have had a positive experience with Thrifty, so maybe this was just an outlier, but this rental experience sucked!!!I rented a car over Thanksgiving week and I know my credit card had to have $250 on it to cover the deposit. This time I did the same thing had $300 on my card and my card was declined as I was told the deposit was $350. After having to spend 2 hours making a Western Union payment to Capitol One I go back and the car they had previous for me a Nissan Altima - now I’m given a Kia Sol. I was very upset as besides the 3 passengers - 3 bags - I was transporting a wheelchair. It was not a fun car to drive as the person in the backseat was cramped as the rear seat had to fold down to accommodate the wheelchair.Again hopefully this experience was an outlier and not the norm.Jim H.Irvine, CA
I had a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE experience here. I came in just needing to exchange my vehicle because the one I received was full of ants and they didn’t want to help me. Customer service sent me to this location and they treated me like I was stupid. Daniel didn’t even bother to try and help me he just made a very rude remark. The second male who works there, who has only been working there for four months seemed very sure that they couldn’t bring up my reservation number on their system. So after asking him after a few time to just try, he was able to pull it up on his computer. If you don’t have to rent a car here, DONT!!! Kathy was the only person who actually tried to help me. I’ve never experienced this in my life. Not once have I made a negative review towards a company but here I just had to. The way they treated me was just unacceptable. I wish the manager was there but apparently he was at another location. Please do not go to this location they are absolutely rude!!!
When we arrived they didnt have the car we reserved. They were basically telling us they didnt have it until we were so persistent for them to give us the car we ordered. Im not sure what their problem was but we will definitely go to a little bit higher price place next time to avoid the drama.
The guy who helped me gave me all the info on how the rental hold would go with the method of payment I had. Very knowledgable. However, there is no after hours drop off so I am cutting it too close for comfort with getting to my flight on time. I wont be using them again. I had to wait 1.5 hours for them to open so I could drop off my car. This is something that should be more apparent on their website.
Their Called Thrifty for a reason. They are known for the best prices, you may have to deal with some lack of costomer service to get that lowest price but your savings account (and checking) will thank you. I find that sweet goes much further than sour here at Thrifty. Be kind, let them know about your travel plans and they will try to do their best to accommodate you. Too many times I have seen Irate costumers dealing with the service agent because their car was not ready or someone else was in the car they were promised. Then just being nice and friendly gets me a sweet hybrid or brand new sedan as an upgrade. Smile and hope for the best.Oh, and I always decline the insurance, since when I pay with my credit card, rental cars are covered!! Remember your saving when you go to thrifty, and hopefully that keeps you laughing all the way to the bank, even if their services is not always speedy.
I was on vacation in the states and drove from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. The original car rental that I had received from the Las Vegas Airport started having issues. I called the head office from my Hotel and they suggested that I should go to John Wayne Airport and exchange the car. They didn’t provide me a car in my Hotel as other companies would do.I went to this horrible car rental location close to John Wayne Airport. They have a horrible service. Extremely slow and unfriendly/ rude staff at the counter with no sympathy for your issues. Specially Ron and Steven who worked at the counter. I complained about their service to Ron, he threatened to call the Police on me. All I had asked him was to replace the old Altima that he gave me with a newer one that was on their lot and Leslie (another employee) suggested that I can switch and all I had to do is to go back into the office again and ask them to change the car number on the contract but Ron refused to do so. I told him that my neck hurts and I need a car with the rear camera. I had rented a full size car and generally all full size cars are newer and have rear cameras.I reached out to Maria (location manager) to complain about the two employees and left her a voice mail but she never bothered to call me back. This experience ruined my vacation.Don’t go to this location. Save yourself the headache and rent from another company or go to another location. If I could, I wouldnt give them even the one star but Google review needs to have the one star clicked otherwise, I cannot post my review.
Whereas most sna rental agencies are on site, this one is offsite. They made my family and I wait for over an hour, and there were only 5 people in front of us. 3 of the 5 were not renting that day but there to fix issues with their rentals (flat tire, GPS, and receipt issue). Watched another customer storm out and go to find another rental agency when his car was given away. To add insult, when dropping off the car an hour after it was supposed to open, the manager had failed to show up. Workers couldnt get in or get to the shuttle to take us to the airport. We were told to drop off at Dollar (nobody there) and pretty much just left the keys in a drop box. Pretty much the worst experience ever! One star is giving too much. GOOD LUCK with this place...
Was given the car I reserved for the price quoted. Car was clean and well maintained. Was very dissatisfied with the overall car rental garage and poor car rental signage in the airport but thats the airports fault not Thriftys. But then again, I read what I signed carefully, examined the car carefully, didnt damage the car, didnt lose the keys, returned the car on time and with a full tank. Do all those and I imagine you will have a nice experience as well. One other complaint I have is that they made me return to the garage with my wife to add her as a driver. Some brands just automatically add spouses.I also like that they have real cars, not those lousy flex fuel cars that are filled with garbage gas or hybrids that have small trunks due to the large battery.
We were upsold 20 extra dollars per day for a full sized SUV because we have 5 bags between 3 people. This SUV vehicle had barely room for one bag in the trunk and we had to put the back seat down to load up which barely left room for our son. If we wanted to stack bags in the back seat, we could have stuck with the midsize and saved nearly $100! Never choosing Thrifty again!
Had a wonderful experience!!! From the time I reserved the car to speaking to Michael at pick up & returning the a young woman, sorry I didnt get her name but so sweet!! Then back to Michael also gave me a great deal & car. Thrifty Car Rental by John Wayne Airport. When I ever need to rent a car.I will only use Thrifty Car Rental, Thank you, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😀👍
Awful! Website said in terminal. Landed. Not in terminal. Had to take a shuttle and wait in line for 25 min while men at counter help THREE whole people. Garbage service. Will never use again.UPDATE: Got in touch with the Facebook team. While I did have about five different people respond to me they did offer a small refund amount. Understandable that they cannot refund the entire amount but the little they did offer helps. Waiting on the refund to post on my account but that can take a few days. I will update again.
It started out a little shaky doing it over the phone. My husband went in to Thrifty Car Rentals by John Wayne Airport and a gentleman named Ron was awesome. He helped us get the car we wanted and did everything to keep it cost friendly. We had a great trip and the car made it more enjoyable. I would go back there again and work with Ron. Thank you!!!
Found them on Southwest and got a deal for $160 for 6 days. Woo hoo! Then when we got there, so many extra charges. The guy behind the counter told my wife we had to do insurance. And the lowest package was $240. And our Toyota Saqoia was a brand new asset and has to have the minimum coverage. Our car was old and the stereo was blown. And only the front speakers worked. And the car was far from new. Then I went back in and talked the the guy and he said the same to me. And said annually 60% of accidents in California are involving uninsured motorist. And thats why they say they need the protection.
Hubby and I had a reservation set up with Thrifty via Expedia, when we arrived they didn’t have the car we wanted available but they worked hard to make it right and boy did they deliver! Candy and Mason were the best people to work with and so helpful! Candy was adorable from the start and sent me on my way with enough slim jims to last me a year I swear! Thank you both for an awesome start to our yearly vacation!! Strongly recommend!
Just ok. No longer at John Wayne airport so you need to take a shuttle. The shuttle I rode in was a dodge mini van not a real shuttle. Did not have the car I reserved so had a choice of waiting 30 minutes or taking a smaller car. Took the smaller car. Think I will look at other companies to rent from at SNA in the future.
Dont lose it at TRIFTY! Online rental process check in shuttle from airport and vehicle all great. Cheap price for a Kia Soul. Dropped off and shuttle back to air port then our hotel to realize I didnt have my phone. Started checking the hotel shuttle and 2 restaurants and the only place left was the THRIFTY office. NO local number. Toll-free would NOT give us a number or put us through. Just go online for lost and found. Took a LYFT to the office. Desk clerk was just as unhelpful. Did give me local office to call the next morning but couldnt check the car and wouldnt ask the driver. Walked outside and found the driver in the van. He opened the door and turned on the lights to see my phone on the floor. Then I took a LYFT back to my hotel. SIGH.....$20 later which cost more then the entire days rental and 45 minutes chasing it I had my phone back. A simple phone call to the office and a REAL check in the shuttle would have been SO EASY and customer friendly. As my wife told the person on the phone , if we have a choice who to use for a rental, it wont be THRIFTY! Signed-- Without Service in California
I am a Long Term Rental and this Organization is excellent, price is low staff is great, especially Michael, he goes out of his way to accommodate you. The only complaint I have and I hope they work on correcting is that if you use your Master Card instead of your Visa Credit Card they put a $350 hold on it. I just think it should be fair no matter WHAT Credit Card you use. Thanks. Wayne
Blue Chip + Wild Card. I have been renting for years from this Thrifty Car Rental at John Wayne Airport. Having my Blue Chip number with my car rental preferences and credit card information entered prior to completing my online reservation sped up the checkout process when I arrived at the rental counter. Years ago, my family-of-four had to accommodate a baby and a small child with extra baggage. The agents always used their discretion with the Wild Card option to right-size my family into the best vehicle that fit our needs. When we had a crib + luggage + car seats for our children, the agent rented us an SUV and another time the agent rented us a Minivan at the Compact rate. This happened when gas prices were over $4/gallon and there were plenty of the larger cars sitting idle in the parking lot because the gas mileage was so much better in the Compacts than in the SUVs. As the kids grew out of their car seats and the quantity of our luggage declined, the agent assigned us the gas-mileage-friendly, mid-size car. I have always been happy with the agents at Thrifty because they have consistently given me the best value for my familys changing needs. Thanks. :)
Car was fine, staff was professional; however, the shuttle was not adequate to provide service in a timely manner. The site is just over mile away and the traffic pattern in the airport creates a delay for the shuttle. This location needs two shuttles in a continuous pattern.
Wow, took care of their car.. filled it up... brought it back on time. Paid it in full.YET,We get a bill for $74 for going through tolls. You may be saying, “wow, you went through a LOT of tolls.” Well, we went through 4 tolls, amounting to $14 in toll fees. So, where did the other $60 of the bill come from? “Administrative Fees”California vacation. The gift that keeps on giving.
This place is an absolute nightmare. It is NOT located in the airport, like every other car rental place, so you have to wait awhile at the terminal to get a shuttle. The place is also a semi-scam. Their business model has cheap up-front prices and relies on customers to go through tolls and then charge you an additional $15 PER TOLL. So I just had $15 in tolls turn into over $100!
Was told by several people at 800# I would be guaranteed all wheel drive. Had a hard time tracking down local 714 ph # to speak with someone at actual sight. People at the 800# did not have a local number either. Strange.Once I spoke to some locally I had a better experience, thank you Burt , but I did spend a lot of time on the phone for what should have been a simple reservation.
Website claimed car pickup was at the airport, but it’s not. Once at airport, there’s an unmarked shuttle stop. Between 3 families, there were 12 passengers needing to get to rental facility, but their “shuttle” = minivan that seats only 7. When we asked about the tiny shuttle, no signage and long wait, were told “that’s why we’re cheap.” We used to use Thrifty bc they’ve been reliable and fast at other airports, but not giving them our $$ again.
TRULY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. They were braindead idiots AND they FORGOT to add the taxes until I returned it. I wrote the Better Business Bureau. They also failed to tell me my Toyota Yaris had 3-D, meaning 3rd gear and Drive were in the exact same spot. For days I was in 3 and didnt know it. I got about half the gas mileage because they didnt tell me!!!!!!!! Never experienced such unprofessional idiots.
Their customer service on the phone as well as at the rental agency by john Wayne Airport was very poor. The lady on the phone had very broken English very hard to understand as well as rude. When I went to pick up the car they left me standing in there for about 15 minutes while three or four of them where socializing and looked right at me then finally asked me if I needed help. Not!! a good experience I will not rent from Thriftys car rental, down one potential customer.
HORRIBLE COMPANY, NOT LOCAL FRIENDLY. I reserved and prepaid a rental for a weekend. The rates were great and it was fairly easy. When i got there the day of my reservation, they denied because i wasnt allowed to use my debit card. The only way i could use my debit card was if i was out of state. I had previously used their services in January of 2016, but they changed their policy on Jan 9th, according to the guy at the place. It was too late to find another rental place that accepted debit card. Because i made the reservation online, it turns out that it was a third party. It wasnt expedia or orbitz or anything like that, it was a HIDDEN third party which of course avoids liability on their end. It was CARTRAWLER who refused to reimburse me even though the rep was surprised Thrifty didnt qualify me. This experience was worse than just losing out on the money. I also had to pay for a hotel i didnt end up using, and missed the opportunity to see and spend time with my friends, PLEASE DONT GO THERE. OR ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH THEM
Had to wait 40 minutes for a shuttle fr the airport to the rental facility. We waited 15 minutes , then called thrifty to ask where the shuttle was. Then we waited 25 more minutes. Once at the rental facility we waited another 20 minutes even though we were 2nd in line. Oh, and while your waiting in the rental facility you can hold your breath because it smells stale and musty like it had flooded at some point in time but was never properly cleaned afterward. AVOID!!!!
Great Rates & Friendly Staff! Left my MAC computer in the shuttle on my way to the airport...Called Thrifty and they sent the driver back to deliver my computer. Suggestion: If youre in a hurry, take a taxi from the airport to the car rental location...Its about $8usd.
I forgot my beats headphone in the car and did not realize unlit I was at the airport security. So I called the rental place right away it had been about 15 mins till I got to the airport the lady over the phone transferred my call to a computer system to file a complaint. After I did all that it has been more than 10 days that I haven’t heard anything from them.
Did not care about customers. They had wrong info on computer ready to send us away wouldnt try to figure out what was wrong, mgr came out 2 times to figure it out, than the counter clerk Anthony asked if we wanted the Anthony special!!! Not to mention the shuttle passed us up and we had to wait 20 minutes for them to send out another shuttle!!
I needed to rent a car for an out-of-town trip and called Thrifty. They got me into a mid-size for the price of an economy and treated me well since I enrolled in the Blue Chip program. Some of the staff made me questionable about whether or not theyd meet my demands but everyone came through at the end.
Shout out to Michael Thompson at this location. First time renters from out of town. Unfortunately, Priceline in no way informed us that you have to pay with a credit card, and we dont have credit cards. Looking at being stranded in a downpour, Michael went above and beyond to get the go ahead from corporate and get us in a car and on our way. Couldnt be more thankful for his service and attitude towards the situation. Thanks Michael!
I wound give this company minus points if I could. They should be out of business. Especially that guy Jim. He is dumber than a doorknob and likely racist. One thing for sure if he doesnt like you, youll know it. Hell keep you waiting, hell talk slow and down on you, feed you bull, like if you get pulled over without this paper the car will get impounded for sure
AVOID THIS DISASTROUS COMPANY - waited 40 mins for a shuttle bus at LAX, all the other car rental buses came every 5 mins, the location is miles from anywhere in a shabby warehouse. The women at the desk gave me a full size SUV and charged for it, but there were none left in the lot. Pay a little extra and go with another firm.
Shuttle only runs every half hour (supposedly to reduce carbon emissions) then had to wait 30 mins. to check in, then had to wait 45 minutes for the car. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I called Thrifty 800 number to complain, and they told me to speak with the (incompetent) manager.
The worst experience ever !!!!Never ever rent from them, they provide the worst service !!They don’t care about customers, staff very unreliable and not helpful!!!Manager is there like a statue !!! Won’t help u if any problems !!!!They charge u extra and have many hidden fees!!! If u want to have the worst experience and pay a lot of money for a low service !!! Go ahead .
This place is really good, customer service is the best, inside at the counter and also the staff when you bring the rental back. I m very happy with this place, when it comes to rentals I always come here, I have try different agencies but nothing compares. I highly recommende this place.
We walked into the store and no one was at the front desk. We had to walk around to find someone and when we did they said they were on lunch and couldnt help us. After getting help we had to wait over an hour for them to get us a car. I would find somewhere else to rent from.

2022-03-11The thrifty booth is closed at the SNA airport. Go to the *Budget* ticket counter. Don’t do what I did and misread the tiny sign at the thrift counter and stand in line at the Budget line only to have to go to the back of the Dollar line. It’s been a long hour waiting to get my car. Bring all the patience you can, people.

2022-03-25Incredibly slow service. They do a valet style thing so it’s more complicated than just getting the keys and picking up the car. Long line of people waiting as much as 45 minutes to pick up their prepaid car

2022-05-06Very friendly staff, and the car was way nicer than anticipated, being that the term thrifty has its stigma. Pretty easy pickup and dropoff process as well.

2022-05-31Do not use Thrifty for car rental here! No one at the counter and a sign to go downstairs to Herc/Dollar. After two hours of waiting, they tell you they can’t help and ask you to go back upstairs to Herc counter. The Herc people then say that’s wrong and send you back downstairs. There were at least 20 upset Dollar and Thrifty customers. Finally got fed up and walked over to Avis and got a car in 5minutes. What a nightmare.

2022-04-15Stay away! These guys are crooks! $895 added to my $1,100 “total cost” on Priceline. When I complained, they said it would all be refunded when I turned the car in. It wasn’t. None of it was. Oh, and it was a four year old car and it had a large dent. Sure glad I took pictures or they would have wanted more money for that! Never again.

2022-05-29Absolutely THE WORST and most incompetent people I have ever dealt with. Their attitudes are as poor as their customer service skills. Scammers overcharged us twice. If u want the run for your money this is the place to go. Only ones I reccomend this place to is the BBB.

2022-03-21Horrible service. Why provide a drop box for the return of the vehicle and it takes them more than 2 days to close the rental ? Spoke to customer service and the CSR stated their procedures are from 24 to 48 hrs. Its past the 48 hrs and they can not provide closure.

2021-12-17The wait for check-in wasnt terribly long. They had 3 agents taking care of customers. I have T-mobile so I got a very reasonable price. For 3 days and mid-size vehicle was $40.The econo-cars, you have to walk down a ways so I got some exercise after my flight ✈ arrived.Return was very easy.

2021-11-05Stating that I received poor customer service would be an overstatement because there was no customer service whatsoever.Thrifty Car Rental did not have sufficient staff to process customers trying to rent a vehicle. No excuses for labor shortages as Thrifty should not rent out more Vehicles than they can accommodate.I was then told that Thrifty did not have my prepaid car reservation and they were going to put me in a smaller less expensive car however they were not going to offer any type of refund. I finally did receive a full-size car however it was absolutely filthy.Furthermore Thrifty does not have a phone app that works----a matter of fact you cant even log into it.I will never rent a car from Thrifty again!

2022-05-27Standing in line still over two hours one girl at the counter, already had and paid for the car and reservation and nothing can be done but continue to wait, not how you want to start a vacation.
