In the past couple yrs. I have spent many thousands of dollars on upgrades for my 2018 Tacoma at this shop at first we had a little rocky start that was easily remedied with a short but heated conversation withJames the owner I stuck with them and everything has gone well with a few minor hick ups! until I received my car fax they established with out my consent O.K. fine but they did not report my last oil change and tire rotation so now my report shows I am delinquent on service this is not true and looks bad for my service record I spoke with James about it and said sometimes this happens and that was that it has been several months and nothing changed this is pretty lame of them to not correct it so I feel a real lack of customer appreciation from this shop remember I did not even want the car fax to begin with it was established with out my knowledge and now it looks bad for my truck
Great work, and they didnt charge me for a noise diagnosis a few months after install. Wasnt even related to the lift they installed.

If it is not right, James will make it right, no questions. Creative, cost effective and very customer service oriented.Always available, occasional pick up and drop off and with a little advanced notice, you get one of the small fleet of Scions, and they are pretty fun to drive.So YES! Nothing but great things to say about The Truck Shop and YES using the Scion is a nice service to have available from an independent shop.
I have been working with James who has been extremely helpful.Throughout the process he has been honest, insightful, and has given reasonable prices for repairs.Even though I decided to not go forward with replacing my engine he has been helping me with the next steps-- which as you can imagine is extremely stressful for someone who knows nothing about trucks/cars.James is a person of quality and has gone above and beyond!I would highly recommend this shop to anyone.

These folks are great. I have brought my truck in a few occasions and have always been happy with the service. They are great for the overlanding and offroad folks, too. They are my go-to when the truck starts to make funny noises after beating on it in the desert or mountains.

This is the best shop Ive ever used. Everyone was very helpful and I felt like I was a valued customer. The truck feels amazing after getting new Bilstein suspension. The shop is very reasonably priced, they were extremely fast and the installation of my suspension looks and feels perfect.Everyone there is very knowledgeable and were happy to answer any questions I had as a novice offroader. There were no tricks, hidden fees, misinformation, or attitude from any of the staff. I am definitely making this my home shop. A big thank you to everyone that helped me out at The Truck Shop! Ill be back for sure!

Weve trusted The Truck Shop with all of our vehicles for years -- almost 20 years. Got introduced to them after purchasing my wifes first Lexus RX350 and have saved time, stress (of the unknown) and money ever since. Our other cars have been Toyota (Sienna), Mitsubishi and a Chevrolet RV. Their service is the greatest; thats why we continue to go to them and we live practically in National City, which is about 25miles south of where they are in Miramar.Here we are today; my wife is on her second 2005 Lexus SC-430 and we are happier than one could ever imagine. Weve gotten rid of the motor home, still have the same 2006 Sienna van, and got our daughter a 2012 Toyota Corolla. Bought it with 57,000 miles on it and now its got about 156,000 miles on it -- still going strong.
I went to The Truck Stop after having issues with the car dealership I was getting serviced at. James was very helpful in helping me understand what my truck really needed. This shop is very honest in giving recommendations. They are not forceful. Everything went well, from James and his professionalism, down to the closing transaction with Michelle. The details of what they did to the truck were properly documented in the paperwork. I will definitely be coming back here; and will be recommending friends and family.
Took my 88 toyota pickup here with a laundry list of issues(battery mount, brake issues, terrible steering, etc.) I wasn’t confident doing myself. Didn’t expect it done anytime soon but next day James called with a quote and 2 days later I got a call my truck was done. Addressed all my concerns and then some. I’ve had this truck 15 years and it’s never driven and smoothly as it does now. Forever taking my truck here, dudes know what they’re doing. Yeah you’ll see in other reviews they’re “pricey”. It’s very reasonable for the quality of work they do.
Went in for larger rear springs for my GX 470 since it was sagging a bit and not running as soft as I expected or wanted even though a competitor had recently put a new pair on. It didnt have rubber isolators and the Bumps were shot. Both were replaced or added and the GX now runs very well and has a little bit of its rake back. Quick and efficient service at a fair price.
6 stars if I could. Brought my 2001 Tundra in because I was having front suspension/braking issues. In one day they diagnosed the issues, gave me a quote, and I picked it up the next day. Kept me informed during the whole process and sent me photos/videos of the issues, plus broke down the costs and my options based on my budget. James couldn’t have been better, he even touched up a few things the next day and went above and beyond for me. I’ve found my new mechanic for sure! Great group of guys, friendly and knowledgeable.
James and his team of experienced mechanics are phenomenal! I recently purchased a 2002 Toyota 4Runner that required a bit of TLC. I sent an email to the address listed on their website looking to get a quote for the repairs I needed. As a student, hidden fees and unforeseen fixes are two of my worst fears when it comes to vehicle maintenance. However, James and his staff were quick to respond to my inquiry and the price they provided me with was what I paid at the end of the day. I will definitely continue to visit The Truck Shop in the future for all of my vehicle-related needs.
Wow! What a great experience! An honest and friendly mechanic - rare to find! They diagnosed and repaired some suspension issues on a 4th gen 4Runner I recently purchased. I had asked about getting the automatic transmission fluid flushed and he check it and said it looked good - most places would just do it and collect the money. Ill definitely be back and will recommend to others.
I trust James and his crew to do good work on my 89 4Runner. The shop is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. Front desk is always polite and helpful. Prices for parts and labor are fair.
Took my 2001 4runner in for an inspection and these guys did a fantastic job diagnosing major issues that needed immediate attention (without trying to sell me on unnecessary service). I had three separate service visits here now over the past few months to replace worn lower ball joints, replace leaking radiator, and replace torn control arm bushings and shocks/struts all around. James and the crew are extremely knowledgeable, honest and straightforward. Its been a great experience every time and I highly recommend these guys.
These guys did a great job with my 2002 4Runner. Gave them a call and they quoted me a lower price for better shocks than other places had quoted me. Found my ball joints worn out as well. I felt that they were quite knowledgeable and completed the work well. Very competitive pricing and I was impressed. 4Runner has been running great since the suspension work was done and it took care of a noise that other mechanics have been telling me to ignore for a couple years!
I dont know how many times Ive bombarded them with my last minute car issues but they always take care of me no matter what!!! I purchased a used honda so I didnt have to pay an arm and a leg for repairs and it makes me SO happy to know that I get BETTER than dealership quality for LESS cost! James is always super chill and handles pressure well. (They are busy for a reason...They are in high demand!). Eric, Ryan & all the people that answer the phones are all so nice. I love this place. Im so glad I was recommended to them by my parents who had been going to them for years. Im pretty sure this is the 4th or 5th time Ive been to them and they never disappoint! I wanted to tip them and they wouldnt accept it...they just want to provide the best service at the lowest price and apparently they realize this is good for business. Excellent. James is legit, a really good trustworthy stand up guy. They have loaners, they are honest, forthcoming and fast with your vehicle. Highly recommend. My Toyota broke for good :( and I want to buy another Toyota partly because this shop rocks. He really helped us out in a desperate time and has taken good care of both our vehicles.

Ive been taking my car and truck here for a few years now. They do good work and Ive never had a problem. They are not that much cheaper than the dealer, but they dont try to upscale you, pressure you, or fast talk to more work than necessary. Thumbs up guys, keep on truckin.

If you are in San Diego and own any Toyota/Lexus or off road p/u, The Truck Shop is the place to go for repairs, add-one or service. They are very knowledgeable... Ask your question, if they dont have an answer they will research, find the answer and they will call you back...They also have a great fabrication department. It excellent. Drop by and talk with them. Add up the employee experience they would have, at least 100 years of combined experience.If you have to wait for your vehicle, they have a waiting room that has 2 free video games, a 50 inch tv with cable.
Stellar shop. Fantastic service, very helpful and great prices. I particularly like how they never try to upsell you on nonsense items or services.Took my Jeep in to get aligned after I installed a lift kit. They dialed the Jeep in perfectly and even double checked torque on the bolts.Theres a reason these guys are constantly busy. If I ran a shop, I would copy everything they do.
BEWARE!!! Angry know it all named James almost took advantage of me not checking his pricing or ethics. I will not bring my truck back here again. Hand written work orders/ no tax applied. Quick to knock my brothers efforts past work on the truck and thoughts regarding the repair(my brother is our family go to authority in times of need like this) James told us it needed a transmission...Long bad story short ...it ended up being a simpler repair that was not the transmission but a problem with the engine instead. I almost decided to get new transmission !!!! If it was not for someone in the family that knows cars saving us I would have trusted their more than confident improper diagnosis. $4800.00 vs $1200.000. Don’t buy into the Toyota only hype it’s a good marketing scheme and they WILL attempt to prey on your Toyota enthusiasm. When I tried to call and talk about it they told me I was wrong?! (Wtf)The truck is still running strong months later no transmission problems. Presents false confidence and will condemn any work performed by you or in this case my Mechanic brother...give me a break

One of the best experiences I have ever had at an automotive shop. These guys are great. I wanted to lift my 2009 Tacoma and upgrade the suspension. I had all kinds of ideas for pricey stuff I thought I needed, but James talked me down and got me what I really needed for my use. He could have been like others who try to up-sell a customer with expensive gear that makes him more profit, but thats not him. Instead he took the time to talk to me about how I used the truck, and then got me exactly what worked - and saved me money in the process. I could not be happier. Dont bother going anywhere else.
Just not happy with the customer service. they asked me to set an appointment for a backJob. dude seriously? im already infront of you! why would you let me walk away and set an appointment? you already have my money in full now i just came back because of your mistake not mine! ruined 2 of my bnew tires because of bad alignment! backjob supposed to be addressed right away i dont care if you have alot of customer in line your fault not mine! waste of time and money!
First time taking my Tacoma here for installation of URD parts. They had the parts in stock, and stuck to their estimated quote and time frame. I was given updates about my truck while it was in the shop left me feeling confident the work was being done correctly. I was only passing through the San Diego area for travel, but wish I had a place like this closer to home. Totally recommend taking your toyota here too. Thanks to everyone there!
Ive been going to The Truck Shop for 5 years and have had nothing but great service, at a fraction of the price compared to the dealer. In fact I have referred a handful of friends and family with Toyotas and Lexuss, and they have had similar experiences, and above all have appreciated the honesty and fair prices. The staff is great and their work is top notch!
Took my Gx470 in for a body mount chop and was very satisfied with the results. The small attention to detail speaks big about this shop. I usually do my own work and i will not hesitate to bring my GX if anything needs to be done that i can’t do.
If you drive a Toyota, any Toyota, and you have you have your repairs done anywhere but the Truck Shop, youre taking it to the wrong place. James and his crew have no equal.
My first vehicle I brought in was my 05 4runner. They had left such a good impression on me and they ended up doing everything from aftermarket to maintenance. I did a full suspension lift, wheel spacers, drilled and slotted brake kit. These guys are awesome. Round two brought my dads 06 tacoma in and these guys knocked out his lift front and rear to include upper control arms in record time. I have o my gone to one other shop and that place was horrible in comparison. These guys will be the only mechanics I trust outside my household to touch my vehicles ever again.
I have been taking my truck to James for over 10 years now and even after recently moving up to the Bay Area, I still contact the shop for assistance with my vehicles. James and his team are amazing and very trustworthy. I wouldnt go anywhere else, and am very sad I am not able to take my car and truck there any longer.
This shop forces Built Right uniball UCAs on you, and will not instal JBA, SPC or Camburg balljoint style arms. Its never a good sign when a shop insists on using a specific brand, and doing so is more important than considering your specific application.Even after paying a $500 deposit to secure parts through them, they wont call you back or send you an email with an update on parts you ordered. Then when you call them to follow up, they wont have an answer for you and will get annoyed that you called.
This is literally my first consumer review....but worth writing because James and the crew really are next-level.Have had only great experiences. They service my Honda Accord (not just trucks!), and recently put a replacement transmission into it.Look no further people. Save your time and give them a call.
First time customer. Was very satisfied. They are very knowledgeable. Took my 14 year old Lexus GX470 to them for an oil and transmission fluid change. Was quick and really competitively priced. They even found a leak in my radiator and said I should just monitor it and when its time to do the timing belt just do it all at once. Seemed super honest.

The only place Ill take my vehicles. I stopped in at 4pm and they were able to take care of an oil change and diagnosed a nasty creak in the front end of my Lexus. They applied some grease that not only fixed the creaking, but my steering wheel no longer vibrates at hwy speeds. The price was extremely fair too. If you have a Toyota or Lexus, do yourself a favor and take it here. 👍
Ive been coming here for years and cant imagine anyone else working on my FJ. They are experts and only recommend work that really needs to be done. They are good guys with real integrity. When I schedule work they hook me up with a loaner car for the day. Truck Shop Rocks. I never thought Id put a mechanic sticker on my truck before going to them.
I took my 2004 Ford Ranger to this shop for a full lift kit and regearing as well as tires and Rock Sliders. These guys have taken care of me every step of the way and I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get some suspension or off-road work done to their Toyota, Lexus, or any other vehicle with an aftermarket to pick from.
This place exceeded all my expectations. I bought my truck next door at Miramar Trucks and any issues Ive had James has taken care of them right away with great customer service. There are many mechanics that can do the work but its the excellent customer service that makes a difference. He goes above and beyond.

Top of the line Toyota and Lexus repair shop,wouldnt take my vehicle anywhere else in San Diego,they offer a wide range of OEM as well as aftermarket parts,great prices and quality work that you can trust.Regular maintenance can be done here. You can walk in during the weekdays and make appointments for the weekends. Certified technicians on hand,can fix anything and is conveniently located right off main road. Nice waiting room and also loan a car if u need to drop off and go. Like i said best prices and quality work at The Truck Shop!

Im a cynical person. I dont trust auto-mechanics. I have a long history of getting ripped off by them. In my 15 year experience living in the States, James and his crew at the Truck Shop are the one exception. They are exceptional mechanics, craftsmen (can your mechanic build a Trophy Truck from the ground up) and diligent, honest, hard working down-to earth red-white and blue good dudes. Ive been taking my truck there for years, and I will continue to do so for as long as I live in San Diego.
Fantastic shop. They know all the ins and outs of my FJ. I have had my suspension, LCAs, TO bearing, and clutch done by them. Each time they came in as quoted and on time. I wont trust another shop with my FJ and feel fortunate to have found them.My #1 concern with a mechanic is quality. The 2nd is price. They nail both out of the ballpark.

These guys are the real deal when it comes to Toyota especially the older trucks like the my FJ60. They know these trucks and can access the best parts available because they are AISIN distributer. The stock parts that typically are very hard to get. I 100% recommend this shop.

Took my mk IV down to Toyota of Chula Vista to have you the horn fixed. After them having the car for over 3 days and charging me a ton of money, the horn failed before I could get home, my air bag light was on and the cruise control no longer functioned. Lucky I found this place, in a day and for a fraction of the price they got everything up and running, including what the dealership broke. Been back many times, always leave happy. Customer for life.
These guys really know how to take care of an old 80-series landcruiser. We had beaten our up driving to Panama and back and they fixed every issue that we had. James is straight-forward and really great to work with.

Highly recommended!! Id had this awful squeak in my truck for 9 months that ORW and the dealership failed to properly diagnose or repair, but The Truck Shop owner, James Ederer, diagnosed it as a bad heim on my King Suspension in only a few minutes. Hours later, the badly worn and ovaled heims were replaced and my suspension was once again silent! I also had them do the 50,000 mile maintenance. Fluids, filters, etc. Couldnt be happier. Ill be taking my truck there from now on!

2021-12-04Knowing very little about how to and where to take my truck for mods I was referred to The Truck Shop. After an initial discussion over the phone about some different wheel/tire/lift options I could do I was sold that I had found a place I could work with and I am glad I did. I have had my truck at the Truck Shop for a number of mods and have a few more planned. Not only do they great work but it is clean and beautifully done. In two scenarios their finishing work was so clean I didn’t even notice where they actually performed the work. 10 out of 10 times I would recommend anyone who is serious about quality work being done to their vehicle to visit the Truck Shop.

Ive had my 4Runner at his shop multiple times over the last few years either mod upgrades, and normal maintanance stuff like engine, trans, differential oils changed, to offroad mods and upgrades and always a good outcome.James takes care of his customers.I use to go to another offroad shop but everytime I went in for something, the bill would always be higher than quoted or they would schedule an appt and insist on a credit card deposit for the appt and if you miss the appt, you lose the deposit. You cant win customers like that and thats why I stopped going to that place and always go to the Truck Shop.No hidden charges and its done when they say it will be done and doe right.!

Ive been using them for several years now and This is the only place I bring my cars to!I had a check engine light and another icon pop up yesterday, I called them last night, brought it in this morning and by the afternoon, my car was ready to go 😃 Cant ask for anything better!

2020-08-03I came into the truck shop with zero knowledge, a lot to ask and a short amount of time. Ryan and the team there were all super helpful answering my questions and gave me advice and shared their honest opinions about my options. I brought my truck in Wednesday morning and I told Ryan I was moving on Friday so he gave me a loaner car in case the project took until the weekend. I had it back by Thursday afternoon with a front and rear lift, new brakes, wheels and tires. They absolutely crushed it. I can’t recommend The Truck Shop enough and I really look forward to using their services in the future.

2021-03-13Great shop that does excellent work. Customer service is extremely responsive and helpful. Installed a Bilstein 6112/5160 suspension on my Tacoma and I am beyond pleased. Ill be bringing my truck here from now on!

2019-07-06The people at this shop are absolutely amazing! I made a temporary move to SD about a month ago, and I have no garage, tools, nor time to install my new SPC UCAs on my 16 4Runner. Someone suggested this shop on a 4Runners of SD Facebook page, and after seeing all the positive reviews, I decided to give em a shot. I called in a few days ahead to get a quote and availability, and they offered very reasonable pricing, and said I can come right in, no problem.Brought my truck in the following week, and let them do their thing. Got the UCAs installed, an alignment and tire rotation, which only took a couple hours, even with all the folks that were in before me and came in after. Great work and very friendly people. They seem to get $hit done and get it done right!

2018-05-01These guys are awesome. I dont even have a Toyota/Lexus or Scion and these guys rocked out my GMC truck. A big shout out to James & Greg in the office as well as everyone else that worked on my truck.These guys actually care about your rig as if it were their own. They did a lot of work on my truck. It was brand new with less than 300 miles on it. They added 2.5 baja lift kit with King Coilovers, shocks, dampers.They had to custom install my Fab Fours Front bumper & Warn Winch and wire up and install my rock lights, light bars on the bumper and custom install led light switches that look factory.I needed wheels and tires and got them online since they were hard to find, but these guys even dropped them off at discount tire and picked them up and installed them on the truck for me.They also have a full CNC custom fabrication shop and designed and installed a killer solid aluminum rock guard cover over my drive train.I saw a ton of jeeps, baja trucks, and just regular Toyotas and Lexus in the shop. These guys are great. Id recommend them for anyone that has a vehicle they work on. They have a nice waiting room as well and I met customers that have been going there for over a decade and love them.I definitely took my truck to the right shop!

2021-12-21Amazing dudes, they really know their stuff and actually care about whats right for your truck.I usually do all my own work but things have been crazy and Ive been sitting on a pile of parts to install, so a friend recommended me this shop. Ive been a mechanic for 20 years and I know guys who know their stuff, and these guys got it. Will be bringing it back to them again for installs I dont have space or time to do myself. 🤘

2019-03-16The dealer wanted several thousand dealers to replace the rack and pinion on my truck. For a similar price, I was able to get a new rack installed, new springs and struts, ball joints and alignment. The overall experience at the shop could be improved, but you cant beat the value. I took my truck on a 600 mile trip through Baja which included extensive offroading and the recent work made a big difference. Would recommend.
