Sad to see the retail stores getting so greedy. My Bakersfield store is now open on Sundays, has very little stock, absolutely nothing on several shelves daily and told that there restocking but I go almost every day I dont see that and what they do have is overpriced. I have found items with a retail sticker for less than they are pricing it for. I used to spend $40 or more per month on items. I have in the last three mounts spent a total of $0 They used to have half off pricing almost weekly and if they do have a sale now its still priced too high. I’m retired and this used to be a great way to spend some time, now it’s just frustrating to see how bad this store has become.Bakersfield Salvation Army policy now seems to be if we cant sell DONATED overprice items, throw them away.
First I am a single mother and the first time I went there at Christmas 2010 I had absolutely nothing I had just come from Mexico and I did not have any clothes for me or my children, I went to the Salvation Army and they did not want to help me. Well, I left him alone and he promised me never to help them by donating clothes or money. Thank God I got up and I was very well economically. So this year the harvest season started badly, there was very little order and I worked very few hours, I did not reach to cover all the expenses of my house and my bil of PG & E was accumulating. And 3 weeks ago they rested me from work and I am unemployed, today I went to ask them for help to pay my PG & E and again they deny me the help. When people really need it, they turn their backs on it and know people who do not need it and are the ones who help. First of all God will raise me from this but I SWEAR never help the Salvation Army when I am up.

2021-09-30I’ve been to a few food pantry’s before and I was blown away at my first time. I walk in and the Mexican lady was extremely rude, she was no help at all in assisting anyone on what to do when we all asked. She only spoke Spanish to people she believed spoke it but they didn’t even speak Spanish and looked her confused.she would turn to her workers and speak English around the corner to them then come back and ignore everyone. She kept walking away when anyone in line tried asking anything at all. She brought out 4 food boxes for us to get from and every single item was full of mold and had flies all over everything. They didn’t have any boxes that you could take that they normally fill with food themselves. This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had and I will never be returning. Just because people need help sometimes doesn’t mean they deserve moldy and rotten food, and horrible service. They also never ever answer the phone! They have a voicemail set up saying they’re closed during Labor Day and to call back after the 6th. We’re a day away from October and they could care less to actually help people.

2018-06-22I attended the Salvation Army on Grand River in Detroit and because I am from the suburbs I will admit that I was a little skeptical. But once I got inside the store was extremely clean and smell good and not like old moldy clothing. The manager was super nice and very helpful as well as the staff as I would advise anyone to go check out their large items such as dining room tables sofas chairs Etc because a lot of their things are brand new and were donated by Major furniture stores. Kudos to the manager for the Salvation Army store thats located on Grand River.

2020-10-06The Salvation Army has a nice senior lunch program with bingo. They also are very helpful to those in need. They can help with groceries once a month and electric bills.

2018-11-15If your having or going through a rough patch in your life they will help you with food, bills, counseling and more. The only reason why i deducted a star was because of the receptionist that they have there is a little rude, the times i habe called. Other than that everyone is really nice and helpful
