The beds were adequate although a bit soft to my liking. Room is large enough for a couple of nights stay. The location is good with nearby Glen Ellen village market, wine tasting rooms, and a few well known restaurants. Very quiet area even though its only a few minutes away from the tourists central Locations, but this felt like a world apart. I guess theres no more continental breakfast, at least not in the winter it seems.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Jack London Lodge. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. They are located in a great spot within walking distance of local shops and restaurants. Many wineries are nearby. They also have a nice bar to hang out in and play some pool. The people we met there, locals and staff, were friendly. We had a wonderful time. I will definitely return in the future.
This is a cozy inn in the beautifully quaint town of Glen Ellen. We stayed for two nights, and thoroughly enjoyed the proximity to wineries, Sonoma, and Santa Rosa. The room was clean and nicely appointed, the linens and towels were wonderfully fresh, and the bed was very cozy, but the shower sprayed in every direction, and the neighbors shower and toilet pipes were very noisy. Walls were pretty thin, and any movement outside of the door was easily heard inside the room. Otherwise, the staff was very nice, the saloon restaurant had good food, and we really enjoyed our stay. We are looking forward to returning in the future.
Loved the soft, fluffy, regal bed, the sweet sounds of the bubbling Sonoma creek, and getting to enjoy the hot tub before breakfast! Definitely a perfect place to spend the night in wine country. Peaceful and secluded, but close enough to everything else. Thanks guys!
We stayed at the Jack London Lodge 3 times in 2012, 2014 and recently in September 2018. The first two times, it was amazing. When we booked our last trip, we noticed that the rate increased significantly from around $120 (in 2014) to $200 now, which we could understand if the hotel had been spruced up.We were told that the former owner sold his business in 2016 and the new owner aligned the rate to the market. Now, the charming and quaint Glen Ellen lodge is quite overpriced. Here is why:The beds have not been upgraded and are saggy (and are quite uncomfortable), there is no decor or frames in the room, just white stained walls which was very sad. The furniture is dinged, the lamp shade is stained and the alarm clock is from a different century, similar to the shower amenities. The breakfast was disappointing with mediocre pastries, we actually suggested the manager to use the French bakery Les Pascals across the street. Yummy! To be honest, for $230 per night, the placed is in need of significant updates. In addition, the floor in the room was dirty. When we ask to clean it, the manager was blasé. While the housekeeping obliged, they still neglected to clean under the bed.The landing at the base and top of the stairs have giant pots filled with sand to be used as ashtray, which reeked of stale cigarettes. That was gross! The pool was ice cold and the previous beautiful landscaping was now nonexistent. We mentioned it all that to the manager but he was quite nonchalant about it and said the motel is sold out all weekends anyway. We were very disappointed about the new management direction. I would only come back if things improve.
Nice and clean room at a reasonable price. The location is excellent, just a couple of minutes from the Jack London State Park and not half an hour from Sonoma.A couple of points to take note of (be sure to read the instruction sheet given to you): (1) Breakfast is served only between May and Octobor as it is outdoors and rainy days need to be avoided; (2) Park your cars front-side in; it is said that the exhaust kills the plants; (3) The shower control is somewhat unintuitive; it works, but read the manual first.
This hotel was awesome! Great location, great staff. Everything worked great, even the wifi. The bed was a bit noisy but we reported it at check out and the manager took note of it. The breakfast was great, for American standards, although we had to sit outside (great patio) and it was a bit too cold.
I actually arrived a couple hours early for check in, but despite this two of three the rooms were already ready and the third was just being finished up. To wait, I went to the Jack London Saloon (actually part of the complex) and was greeted with excellent service as I ordered a soda and sat at one of the tables. Three only concern I had was upon checkout (we left at 8am) as none of the buildings were open to return our room keys (actual keys, not key cards) and they didnt have a drop box for keys, so we had to lock them in the rooms before departing.
Laying here in my room at the lodge unable to sleep since 3am due to being in a room that sounds like the window is open. Heard the garbage truck clear as day this morning about 5am. Must be sitting next to the room with the water heater as I get a loud noise that sounds like a motor or water each time the neighboring room flushes their toilet. That rolls into a tapping sound afterwards. Got up to the bathroom about 5:30, & was unable to be quiet walking across the floor because the laminate flooring was so loud with every step. As I returned to bed, I looked at the door, & had to double check it was actually closed, as I could see light between the door & frame. On a more positive note, the room is spacious. There is plenty of space for the 4 of us staying here. The beds are comfortable & warm. I really like the heavy comforters on the beds, although they get pretty warm.Overall, I was disappointed with the place. The photos on their website made it seem more like a neat eccentric lodge vs a run down motel with a pain job & some pretty flowers. The creekside area they show in the photos is part of the bar/restaurant next door, which you can access through the bar vs being an outdoor patio area between the lodge & the bar/restaurant. The pool looks just like any other outdoor pool at any other motel vs the fancy lighting seen in the photos, & it closes at 9pm. Due to some guests pushing all the buttons on the hot tub over the weekend, it is not working. It is fully possible the other rooms are quieter as they are further away from the road, office, & parking lot. If you get room #1, I recommend seeing if you can be moved...If youre looking for peace & quiet.
Very quiet and relaxing motel. room was clean and wifi was reliable. Great place to stay for one night while travelling along the Sonoma valley. Motel is close to the Jack London Saloon where you can play pool, drink some beers and eat. Breakfast is on an outside patio and is included with the room.
Drove cross country from Mass to California. I was lucky enough to have found the Jack London Lodge on Groupon. It was one of the nicest places we stayed at on our entire three week trip. The woman at the front desk was very friendly. The beds were extremely comfortable and clean. The room was immaculate. I cant say enough about how nice it was and very close to the wineries! A diamond in the rough for sure!
The Lodge is a great jumping off point for the multitude of experiences Sonoma has to offer. The rooms are comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the amenities will keep you comfortable. Breakfast is served out on the patio and is a great way to start the day. Jack London State Park is right up the road along with a handful of wineries and tasting rooms. Kenwood and Sonoma are both within 10-15min along with the bounty of tasting rooms between them. Check out the Saloon next door for a glimpse of the local character.
Facebook just reminded me of one of the worst service experiences I’ve ever had, with Erin the bartender 4 years ago. It was so bad that I’m prompted to review, even this late on.I’ve lived in Sonoma County almost all my life, and booked a staycation in Glen Ellen with a friend who was going through a tough time. We stayed at the J.L. Lodge and went to the saloon after dinner. From the minute we arrived, Erin went out of her way to be terrible to us.It was a busy night but we were not impatient and politely waited to order, having both worked in the service industry for years. We kept catching what seemed like nasty looks from the bartender, who turned out to be Erin. I didn’t think much of it at first. Then our turn for drinks finally came, and Erin was straight-up RUDE and icy to us for no reason at all. We asked for double cocktails due to the long wait times for drinks. She sneered at us and rolled her eyes, saying “We don’t do doubles!” in the rudest tone imaginable. She looked at us with clear disdain, as though we were college girls trying to get wasted. We were both in our 30s.My friend and I are friendly, chill gals. No snobby wine tourist face, none of that. I would’ve given Erin the benefit of the doubt if she was just in a bad mood, as I know all too well what it’s like to work in a busy bar with a bunch of drunk folks. But Erin was totally friendly and laughing with MANY people. The bad attitude was clearly reserved for certain folks she had singled out as unwelcome for whatever reason. We decided to stay anyhow and have a couple drinks because my friend who lives in Glen Ellen was coming to meet us. We went out to smoke while we waited, in the same place out front where *everyone* had been smoking all night. We took care to step farther away from the door than most people had been. A bouncer/bartender guy came out and told us that Erin wanted us to go out back to smoke. We did. After going back into the bar, we noticed that people were smoking out front again and they were not being harassed. Only WE had been asked to go in the back, and it remained so for the rest of our the night. Erin continued to throw nasty looks our way, totally unprovoked. My only assumption is that she thought we were tourists, rather than favored locals. Also, though we normally wear jeans and T-shirts, my friend and I had dressed up a little in an effort to have a good time in the midst of what she was going through. Gals know what it’s like to just want to feel pretty some nights. Perhaps we didn’t look “blue collar” enough for Erin (though we WERE blue collar people- not that that should matter when one is working in a tourist town!).My friend from Glen Ellen arrived & joined us. We told her what had been going on, and she was surprised, saying locals love Erin. She introduced us when we ordered our third (and final) drink, and Erin *barely* defrosted. She was less rude than before, but still RUDE. She was nice as pie to my local friend, who became really uncomfortable seeing the treatment herself (and what she saw was mild to what we were getting from Erin before she arrived). After our drink we were all super ready to leave.I wouldn’t have posted this if she weren’t still working there, but according to recent reviews, she is. I will never step foot in that establishment or stay at the Lodge as long as she is working there, which I’m sure she’ll be really happy about considering she hated me for no reason from the moment she saw me.If you’re spending $$ at the Lodge with the idea that this is a convenient, quaint saloon and you’ll enjoy a nice evening here, THINK TWICE. This is your only watering hole within walking distance, and Erin is truly atrocious if she takes an unjustified dislike to you. I’ve seen similar reviews elsewhere, which at least gave us some comfort in knowing we were not the only ones she has targeted with her insecurity-masquerading-as-toughness.Erin’s attitude toward us that night has no justification nor any place in service. Spend your money elsewhere, unless she already likes you.
I came to stay in Glen Ellen as I have an aunt who had lived there recently pass away. We spent five nights there, including Christmas Day, which I was with my brother and his family.Ill start with some of the negatives, first.1. If you look at the photos from other websites advertising the JLL, youll notice a small refrigerator and a coffee machine, along with a hair dryer. What was missing? A microwave! Since there was no free breakfast (as advertised) we had to go to the Glen Ellen market, located across the street to purchase our breakfast--which was NOT inexpensive! A microwave would have been handy to reheat items saved from earlier meals.2. The fan in the bathroom in our room (#14) needs to be replaced. The condensation from showers made the entire room feel muggy. There will be mold/mildew issues if this is not addressed. Due to the lack of ventilation--aside from keeping the bathroom window open--we would get rain from the ceiling landing on our knees while seated on the toilet.3. Hot water is set much at too high a temperature. Lowering the thermostat on the water heater would save energy, among other things.4. The door was not well insulated. One could see daylight coming through the gaps between the door and the jamb. And now the positives:1. It is an absolutely gorgeous location, right along Sonoma Creek.2. TV was wonderful. Although Im not a big TV watcher, my wife and kids really liked it.3. Having a heater/AC with a remote control was a huge win. The heater worked well. It can get chilly in the Sonoma Valley in late December. It more than made up for the gaps between the door and the jamb.4. Hot tub was great! I only used it one night, but my brother took advantage of it on several occasions to help alleviate some back pain he was suffering from.5. Since we traveled with three kids, the staff was nice to provide a mattress for our third kid to sleep on.Hence, the three stars. The JLL didnt suck, but there are some issues that definitely need to be addressed.
It was ok. Room was very comfy and spacious. Amenities were lacking but I suppose that what you get when you book on groupon. We went out of the way to stay here so to be honest it was extremely disappointing, however if you have reason to be in town its def not a bad place.
It’s just an ok place, prices in Sonoma and Napa are ridiculous and you generally pay a lot of money for something mediocre. Their saving grace is they are located right down town Glen Ellen, walking distance to anywhere in town. I just felt that for the price they charge they should have spend some money updating the rooms, it just feels like time traveling into a cheap motel from 1987.

2022-06-23Bruce was amazing. We had a group of 9 staying on a work trip and he anticipated our needs 100%. The lodge is centrally located, within walking distance to wonderful restaurants and the lodge bar. Everything was very clean and comfortable. This is a great place to stay when visiting wine country!

2021-07-10A unique historic place. Good food. Beautiful outdoor dining. This is a casual environment and a local watering hole. Down home.... oh, and the fish and chips are great. The hotdog is the bomb and the fried onion strings are to die for!!

2021-08-08This hotel is currently under remodeling but it was still okay. Salt water pool, proximity to the main restaurants and market makes it an ideal location for adventures. There wasnt any cable but we didnt really care because we were hardly in our room.

2021-06-19Loved this place. Clearly remodeled recently. Everything was clean, the surrounding neighborhood was quiet, and the pool was a nice treat after a hot day in the sun. It’s a little out of the way, but that suited us nicely.

2021-09-25Great if you just want drinks. The food is not great except for the salads. Great drinks, wonderful bartender. Mostly locals on weekdays, can get lil tourist pack on the weekends.

2021-09-27After my grandkids have read some of Londons writings, I plan to bring them here. At first I was fearful that Id get depressed knowing he died so young at 40, but the museum and the grounds showed what a life he lived!!! It was all done so well :)

2021-10-09Absolute gem in the valley of the moon! A super clean and casual and beautiful spot, the back garden deck is expansive and relaxing, nestled above a small seasonal creek. The food is better than average and good local beers -- try the Henhouse... Go to Jack London State Park, hike, honor Americas 3rd greatest writer (the place is steeped in American history), and head for an apres-hike drink at a saloon that Jack actually drank at. THEE best place to drink between El Verano and Santa Rosa. Top outdoor deck/garden area around the Valley.

2015-07-29A couple dozen of us stayed here for a large family reunion. It was great because we could all meet in the lovely outdoor Creekside area at breakfast. The associated bar was very cool- very local-feeling and friendly. I left something in the room and they were excellent about finding and returning it to me quickly. Because of the reunion, we also had a catered buffet in the outdoor area, and the food was REALLY good, well above an average buffet. Nice people, lovely country location. The room was nicely furnished (though it would have been nice to have a bench or something more than one luggage rack for opening our suitcases), and our shower worked just fine. Because the doors open to the outside, we did hear voices outdoors in the night, but closing the window shut out the noise.Overall, a lovely place to stay.
