I dont know how they do it but their donuts are heaven sent. They have many fresh offerings and include numerous gluten free options as well. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The store is clean and inviting. Please stop in and support this local gem. You cant go wrong.
I bought 4 donuts but by the time I remembered to take a photo, two of them were gone haha. Anyways, I read about this placr from an Instagram poster and then reinforced my desire to go after hearing the pastry chef got to go on Spring Baking Championship (even if it didnt go great) and wanted to stop by. I stopped by near the end of the day so my selection was more limited and it wasnt as fresh as possible (thats on me.) I got a Maple Bacon, Chocolate Sprinkle, Citrus Cruffin, and Blackberry Citrus Croissant. Both of the last two werent on the menu anywhere but they were delicious, filled to the brim. I wish I got to try the Boston Cream but hey maybe some other day. Regardless, it was the best Maple Bacon donut Ive had. Id get a chocolate sprinkle elsewhere, but it was still delicious. Overall, Id go back if I had the money to drop on some gourmet donuts.
UPDATE: 2 years after the first review, this place is still the best. The coolest staff who get to know the regulars, super nice to everyone, and they always have the coolest flavor combos! Tried the rosemary chicken and waffle donut today… some bakery genius right there. 10/10 you have to stop here.Original Post:We’ve had a tough time finding a place with true gluten free donuts. Usually, we find that a place will have gluten free ingredients, but have a common preparation area (not good for Celiacs). Well guess what, they have you covered here! Gluten free ingredients AND a separate preparation area! These donuts are so awesome! Had to try a bit of all of them because they have such awesome flavors. The cinnamon rolls are HUGE! They also have a donut that is a churro in the shape of a donut - but soft and delicious. You have to try this place out, they have The Goods (pun intended).
The glazed donut was light and clean, per my husband, and the apple fritter was so interesting. It had legit apple pieces inside. Yum! Our only complaint was that this place needs to visually display all its interesting donuts in the window for passersby to see, as without a friends reco, we never would have noticed it or known to come in!.
The Goods feels so homey. A friendly staff and simple decore. Since its the same owner as Cafe Topes I knew it would be delicious. Highly recommend the apple fritter. Its not heavy and greasey, instead it has a soft and light breading with good sized seasoned apples and a thin crispy outer crust topped with a donut glaze. Definitely worth the $4! I can honestly say the best donut shop Ive been to. If you dont like donuts Id recommend the cinnamon roll and get it dirty.
We thought this was going to be a great place however..... Horrible customer service should have steered us away prior to ordering. While trying to order the rude girl behind the counter seemed annoyed to be helping us. We didnt even get all the donuts we ordered. Again in the lacking of customer service skill was asking for napkins and the same girl refusing to hand is some even though she had some in her hand instead she told us to go look and find some in the basket which we had to dig for a couple napkins for 4 people. Donuts themselves were beyond sub par the follow were more liquid than anything. For the price of these donuts you are better off going somewhere else. We will definitely never be returning again.
First time here today! Although it was raining, we decided to wait in the long line to give it a try, and we were not disappointed!!Line went fast, great customer service, and delicious gourmet donuts. The average cost of the donuts were $3.50-$4, but were so fresh and melted in my mouth! We tried the classical glaze, Apple fritter (made with fresh apples and not pre-made sugary filling), a maple bacon donut and cinnamon roll. All of the treats we tasted were worth the price and wait!
I’m not a huge donut fan, but I find myself returning to The Goods for their monthly flavors along with the Nutella buttercream and churro cruller. I haven’t gone to any other stores because I know the quality and ingredients won’t be matched. It is expensive but definitely worth the quality and great service.
Overall really happy with this place. Weve tried a lot of donut places around SD county and this is in our top 2 along with donut bar in downtown SD. The donuts all had a great flavor and texture and for $3-4 apiece i thought it was fair. The reeses peanut butter was a great balance of flavors without being too rich or sweet but it was super messy with the whipped filling. Pink champagne was sweet and citrusy and had a nice berry flavor. The maple was good too, but i wish it was a little less sweet and a little more like rich maple. Definitely coming back to try more.
My family and I love getting donuts from the Goods on the weekend. If you go on a weekend morning prepare for a bit of a line...but the wait is always worth it for us. Favorite donuts: Apple Fritter, Chocolate sprinkles and Boston Cream. Also Smores and Peach Fritter (seasonal).
This isnt your typical donut shop. They have gluten free and vegan flavors (AMAZING by the way, best gluten free donut Ive ever had in my life! So fluffy and moist) and rotating gourmet flavors. Get here sooner rather than later, they do sell out! Im coming back here for sure. Everything was so good.
My entire experience at The Goods was 5 stars from beginning to end; friendly staff that greeted my family upon entry; a nicely displayed variety of donuts with detailed descriptions; the soft velvety blue seating area; a very picturesque atmosphere; and not to mention a bathroom door that welcomes everyone from mermaids to centaurs!Back to the donuts...I tried the “Special” and it was a fresh, soft, flavorful, sweet, custard filled, topped with blueberry cobbler donut. It was filling, satisfying and the best donut I’ve ever had. If you’re in the Carlsbad area, The Goods is a must see (taste)!
I am giving this a 4 based on my husbands vote. I actually thought a three or three and a half was appropriate, based on flavor, but adding in service and ambiance gives it a boost...The shop is really cute nestled in the Village in Carlsbad. The decor and feel matches the 1920s building, which is fun. The donuts look beautiful in the glass- the colors and sheen of the glazes are really exciting. We got 1 of each kind, which at $3.50-$4.00 each, well, thats more than I spend on my clothes. We took our precious box of beautiful doughnuts home, as indoor dining has been eliminated. We cut the donuts into sample bites and dug in. My favorite was the dulche de leche. It is a nice cakey donut with a carmely tasting glaze that wasnt too sweet or salty. We went onto the plain glazed with sprinkles, chocolate ganache, some really sour pink one, and then onto the creme filled-Vanilla and nutella. Upon cutting them open, there was really very little cream. This turned out to be my sons favorite, because everything else was just soooooooo sweet. We sliced into the lemon berry, which in contrast to the creme filled, was overloaded with berry-lemon filling. I really wanted to love it, but the sweetness made my teeth literally ache. I could hear them begging to jump out of my mouth. The chocolate ganache and Boston creme were both good. Tasted just like they should.I was really excited for the Cherry pop donut, which was fun because it is served with popping candy, but other than that was just another nicely textured raised donut with a really overly sweet glaze. So my review- the donuts look really fun and taste fine. The glazes are too sweet for my personal taste, however, maybe if I was just having a bite of one donut....The customer service is fantastic. The staff is very friendly and patient despite being swamped with customers. They did an excellent job of keeping people spaced due to COVID. The decor and presentation is also fantastic. I just wish I was a more impressed with the flavors. I feel that the excellent texture of the cake was lost in the excessive sweetness of the various glazes. This is a great place for overall experience and a sweet treat that will make any kids eyes pop. Just doughnut alone, its fineOh- gluten free and vegan varieties!
I have been experienced doughnut bliss. I have had many many doughnuts in my life, but so far, the Goods are my favorite. They are opened until they run out. The doughnuts are made right there behind a glass. I bought the Peanut butter chocolate and the fresh berries. I dont eat bacon anymore, but THEY MAKE A BACON MAPLE DOUGHNUT, sorry for yell, but it looked so yummy. I will be back. Oh get there early, or the little lady might get them all. They have big size boxes. The staff is very friendly.
Very cute place, super trendy and picture friendly. The girls working the counter were patient and friendly. I tried the brown butter and strawberry cheesecake flavors, both were great! Everything was great beside the Disney music being played, I don’t mind Disney music normally but it felt out of place and was very loud. Overall, great for donuts and a cute spot though!
My husband & I are a tad addicted to their vegan donuts! Theyre expanding their creations from their scrumptious churros & coconut to chocolate & our favorite so far, their berries donut! Theyre moist like a cake & shaped like a donut! Jammed packed with flavor! We cant wait to see what else they come up with for us vegans! Here some hopeful suggestions: Tiramisu, Cannoli, Dulce de Leche, Pecan Praline, Glazed/Maple Glaze.
Carlsbad Village is evolving into a cool town with happening places to hang, eat, drink and so on. THE GOODS just opened a few weeks back, 8-2017 LOVE the inside look, clean, white, brite, funky contemporary. They offer a homemade style donut with modern flavors. Lots of friendly help, regular coffee and espresso drinks. Plenty of seating, comfy blue banquet and cafe tables with bar and stools in the windows with a few table and chairs outside. Definitley worth a look and a try. #JeffSOLD #Carlsbad
Super friendly staff. Even got two donuts free! Also I love a Boston creme donut, I get one at every donut place. And this was easily the best Boston creme Ive ever had. The custard filling was exactly what Ive always dreamed, actual custard - not that pudding stuff like at Dunkin.
Pillowy, soft donuts with just a hint of sweetness. These donuts were excellent! Try and stop in at least 30 minutes after they open so you can choose from a variety. We got there right at opening to avoid lines and they were still setting up. That is how fresh and amazing these donuts are. Friendly service, greeted with a smile and the powerful scent of fresh donuts. This is a must try!
This is the best donut place in Carlsbad! We go there every day while we visit there! The gluten free donuts are to die for (especially the lemon poppyseed! Hint hint make them every time I’m there!) and I’m not gluten intolerant! I just love them. And the Nutella.... oh boy, now I’m drooling on my phone!
Delicious doughnut with a nice variety of flavors; Care is put into each doughnut. On the higher price for doughnuts but the quality shines. We enjoyed the S’mores and the apple fritter; grabbing a seasonal lemon poppyseed old fashion for later. They serve 12 oz hot drinks such as coffee, teas, and lattes. Also brilliant customer service!
Love love The Goods. Staff, location, atmosphere, coffee and donuts are just top notch. My all time favorite from here is the Vermont Maple and Bacon glazed donuts, finger licking good. Pair with a coffee and close your eyes, guarantee it will taste like a full breakfast meal in your mouth. Great place to pick up some donuts and sit out on the beach and indulge or just bring them home to share, becareful to not eat them all on the way home 🤪. I fully recommend this place, its no wonder why they also own Cafe Topes, two great places to visit while in the village.
I love the vibe and the positive energy from the staff! Located in the heart of Carlsbad, its a perfect vibe to help balance your day. I mean, who doesnt love eating delicious donuts in perfect weather, while people watching??Speaking of donuts, The Goods are delicious and they have an all Vegan menu!! Seriously a place to add to your must try lists. Dont be surprised by spontaneous long lines - donuteers (just made that word up) come in waves and yes there are sporadic Ill take the rest of those donut orders. People travel from near and far and like placing BIG orders to go. Dont be discouraged though! The lines move quickly and the bakers are always pulling a fresh batch out of the back.Enjoy!
Just had my first cinnamon roll from The Goods and I have to say, it was the best cinnamon roll I have ever had. Yes, the donuts are amazing too, but the cinnamon roll... chefs kiss. After eating that cinnamon roll this morning, I dont want to eat anything else for the rest of the day, as I know nothing I eat today will live up to the taste of that cinnamon roll.
A friend recommended we try them out and said we would not be disappointed. The space is so inviting and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The donut selection was amazing! Each one we got was delicious. Our coffees were perfect. Will definitely be returning and recommending them to all our friends and family.
What a fine example of an accurate trendy/delicious ratio. Seriously, it’s important. We live in a world where if you look pretty you think you don’t have to try as hard. Well take a seat, Kylie Jenner, because The Goods just showed you what’s up. I had a fantastic experience here, and between the blue velvet couches and delicate raspberry frosted donut I think I may have recommitted myself to carbs.
Youd better go in with a game plan or youll walk out with one of everything! Absolutely superb. Cant wait to go back! The maple-bacon was decadent without being overly rich. Trying to pace myself through the rest! What a treat! Kind service too, theyre very patient with the selection process.
Its not often you find a place that has good gluten free options for donuts. Its a treat to go there early AM and see many options for Gluten Free and Vegan Donuts. I say go there early AM to make sure they havent sold out of the Gluten Free items. They sell fast. I normally but 2 or 3 and then freeze them so I have a supply during the week.
Amazing donuts and amazing experience! We have been going for years. Our daughter was diagnosed with Celiac disease so it’s been tough finding special treats for her. They have gluten free donuts that are baked instead of fried so they don’t go in the same oil as the regular donuts. The staff was amazing by using separate utensils and boxing hers separately. We know they can’t guarantee that there will be no cross contamination but the fact that they try so hard and we’re so nice about it really made her experience special. She has had no symptoms after the times we have taken her there for donuts. Thank you!!
This place was great. It was actually recommended by Janey at Garcias Barber Shop across the street while cutting my hair. My wife having a gluten intolerance which makes having the occasional doughnut very difficult. The Goods offers a wide variety of GF options. When they didnt have the GF Boston creme available they were able to put one together on the spot. It was quite a treat for her to be able to enjoy a doughnut and coffee. I had the tropical cheesecake doughnut and it was really good. The doughnut was fresh and it had a great flavor combination of sweet and tart. Well definitely be back!
Amazing service, donuts are absolutely delicious, taste homemade but also gourmet in the best way. Sam was SO WONDERFUL to me and my friend. Also, loved the coffee, got a flat white. The environment is so cute and relaxing as well. Definitely needs to be your new go-to coffee and donut spot. Thank you! 💜
The donuts looked fun. One claimed to be a root beer float donut. I still ponder this. We were here to get cold caffeinated beverages late in the afternoon. Basically, the worst timing to show up to not annoy workers. The woman making our drinks was kind and in spite of the ice machine not being fully operational, our annoying timing and what appeared to be a fairly physically painful drink making experience--we left with two lovely cold caffeinated beverages. The barrista was a saint.
Delicious donuts well worth the price. Tons of options from the simple glazed to more extravagant location-exclusive options. They even had free stickers which were pretty cool. They had a good iced tea too which was a perfect compliment to the donuts. All in all definitely worth a visit if youre in the area.
Im not even going to compare these to sidecar. These donuts are in their own category that go well above and beyond your average vietnamese mom and pop donut shop. I had a little sample of the chocolate with sprinkles, cinnamon roll, churro donut, rainbow sprinkles and brown butter donut. My favorite was the churro. It was simple and not so rich. Cinnamon roll was good, but not that warm gooey cinnamon roll you get at the airport cinnamon bon place or silverado cafe. I was looking for that. Im not a fan of cream cheese like frosting either, but it was definitely good. Im happy I got to try it and will go back if Im in town again.
On my 2nd visit to Carlsbad, I found this cute donut shop. The atmosphere is nice and airy with alot of light and attractive decor. There is a nice selection of very creative donut types. The kefir(similar to healthy Kombucha) drink really hit the spot on a hot day.My Vermont Maple and Prosecco donuts were light, fluffy with superb taste. Service is the best Ive encountered in Carlsbad so far by Manager Kia. She is extremely nice, upbeat and professional. There is some outdoor seating as well as indoor.Overall, I rate The Goods the best donut shop I have been to in California so far. They are a must visit for donut fans in North County San Diego.
-1 for price.-1 for poor staffing. This place has a cool environment. The donuts are fancy ones aimed for adults. They have Vegan and GF but I didnt try em. I had the apple fritter which was BOMB! Wife had the strawberry cheesecake which she loved. My daughters had a chocolate sprinkle and a vanilla sprinkle. WARNING: THE CHOCOLATE IS DARK CHOCOLATE! My daughter hated it but loves the vanilla bean glaze. All in all, nice spot for an adult date but I wont be taking my kids back.
I do come here 4 times a year. Their selection for gluten free is better than when they opened, but theres another place in LA and Del Mar that is better (sidecar). I know my family likes The Goods regular doughnuts but the are expensive. The taste of the regular doughnuts isnt better than your average doughnut shop. They do have good coffee and alternative milks so thats a big bonus.
Love this place so much! These are gourmet donuts and they’re huge! I never leave without getting 2, because who can decide on just once flavor? Definitely worth every penny. Their flavors are so untraditional and different, though they still offer your standard donut flavors too! So glad this place is so close it’s my new addiction!
The donuts are delicious, theyre a great sweet treat for yourself or someone close to you. They have a wide variety of flavors, my personal favorite being the seasonal berry. The people working there are very friendly and helpful and will answer any donut-related question you ask them, and the bakers and decorators are proud of their work and that transfers into a delicious pastery.
This place is fantastic. I had been researching desserts in the Carlsbad Village as we were preparing to travel there, well when we finally arrived to The Goods we were so happy to try these famous donuts. The place is beautiful, clean and pretty hipster. Great customer service as well.
Ive been gluten free for 11 years and had my fair share of gf donuts. Lets just say that this place delivers the goods 😜. Best gf donut Ive ever had. Soft fluffy cake donuts that I never thought Id experience again. Got the chocolate and maple both were good, maple was my favorite 😁. Cant wait to try the weekly specials!
GREAT VEGAN DONUT SELECTION as well as non-vegan!!! And these are in the top 5% of vegan donuts, too... weve tried every vegan donut in the San Diego area and these are the best consistency, flavors, all-around. They have gluten-free donuts as well, though we didnt try those. I love that their icings are very flavorful without being overly sweet. Esp the chocolate glaze. The crispy edges are GAAHHHHH, soooooo good.
Donuts are always great here, but the cinnamon roll was a huge disappointment. It was missing the key ingredient of a cinnamon roll and thats the cinnamon goo. It was non existent and basically was a cream cheese frosted dried out pastry. It was bone dry, dense, and not fluffy at all. There should be so much cinnamon goo that the bottom of the roll is gooey/sticky. It likes they forgot to put it in the roll. They need to not call it a cinnamon roll cause thats not what that thing was....the cinnamon roll rates 0 stars and the donuts rate 4 stars.
The Goods has quickly become a favorite. We are sure to drive up for our monthly visit, eagerly anticipating the delicious haul of goodies that awaits. These doughnuts are truly on the next level. A whole lot of love has been put into the baking here and it is very apparent.
Fantastic and tasty donut shop in the Village. Ive been here twice and both were a tasty experience. They field a good variety of different flavors and cream filled options. I find the price to be acceptable and you can tell they have a good time making these delicate treats and love to share what they are all about.
Stopped in a couple of weekends ago, the donuts are amazing oven was broken that day, the girl working helped some people who came after me, and those people took the last vegan donut. I didnt get the workers name but she really needs to pay attention to the order of which people enter. Some other nice male worker apologized, long story short I didnt get a donut that day.
Great donuts and drinks! Girl at the cash register very rude, and ruined our fun experience. Waited 26 minutes for Avocado Toast, and passed our order over 3 times for people after us. Disappointed to say the least. Too bad because the shop is darling and the food is great!
These guys have donut making down to a science. Only ordered a glazed donut for myself and it was the most perfect donut I’ve ever had in my life. Still warm, oh soo fluffy. GF had the Maple Bacon and it was consistent with mine. Almost sad I didn’t get the cinnamon roll.
We came in on Wednesday afternoon when farmers market was on . We had heard great reviews about The Goods from Walk About Carlsbad owner David Jensen. He was right! The Goods is a top notch bakery, well worth the few pennies more per pastry. Great service, great food!
Love this new addition to the Village! Very chic interior. I had the strawberry cheesecake donut and it was delicious! Very moist, light yet oozing with flavor. My daughter had one of their basic chocolate donuts and it was on the dry side and I think VGs in Cardiff is much better. They make a great flat white coffee and I found the service incredibly friendly and knowledgable. Overall, they are overpriced but Ill go back to support our local businesses based on their good service, good coffee and I look forward to trying out some other options.
Donuts are HUGE. They make several options that are different from the norm. Cafe is small, but cute. My daughter loved their nutella stuffed donut, the Vanilla frosted was also good, and the cinnabun was YUM. Price is a little $$$ than say, Dunkin, but it was a cute stop and the kids had a lot of fun. You can also watch them make the donuts through a large glass window. They do have a restroom for use here as well. Parking is a little tricky, but we were lucky and able to get one of the street parking spots.
LThere were several employees wandering around talking to each other; finally one came to help me. They advertise that they have vegan donuts. They literally had three types…I thought they looked a few days old. When someone advertises they have vegan donuts, I think they should have more than three. I also think they should look in a little fresher.
Great selection of doughnuts. Fancy doughnuts I call them. This place sells out quick so you have to come early. It has some great coffee here as well. One of the cutest coolest doughnut shops around. Definitely worth getting there early and snatching some yummy breakfast.
Been there in January and promised to write a review, so here I am (better late than sorry)!Amazing doughnuts, service is charming and the place is what you find in the dictionary when you look for « cozy »!We were visiting from France and this experience was a great memory of our trip
Really I dont believe you people, I bought two doughnuts for over $8! Just because they came in a cute little box with a window did make them taste any better and definitely not worth 8 bucks. I got a glazed donut and a fritter both were kind of big chunks of DRY chewy gluten dough. Why did I expect them to be light and maybe even a little delicate. I said to the gal, these will determine if Ill ever be back, save your money or spend the gas and go to VGs in Cardiff. In fact Friday Saturday and Sunday VGs has a cronut and I will take one cronut over the two that I bought at this place for 8 bucks.
I went in for the first time on Saturday and ordered a donut and avocado toast. The ticket for the toast got lost but when I spoke to the staff about it they were super awesome and made sure to take care of it right away! The food was delicious and I will definitely be back again!!!
Nice place to grab a great donut and coffee. My only recommendation would be to have everything displayed that you have on your menu. Found it quite confusing to have to ask if you have one variety to then be told by one person “no, not today” and then a second person chimes in who then says “yes we do”.

2022-01-15Incredible artisan donuts, made from local ingredients every hour, upon the hour. They also have espresso and its variations, to wash down that churro cruller made seconds ago. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner. Super friendly, genuine and full of passion. A must stop in Carlsbad. Yum!

2022-07-14Excellent selection of basic donuts and specialty options. Had a chocolate glazed which I scarfed down before taking a photo. The powdered beignet very good. Would say best spot north of VG Donuts in Cardiff.

2021-10-09Cute atmosphere, some yummy fluffy donuts with unique flavors. Plus there are vegan and gluten free options which is amazing!A bit pricey as 6 donuts cost about $25 with tip. Understandable though for artisan donuts and a small business. Unfortunately, coffee was out as well due to no hot water. It was a great experience regardless, friendly staff. Would probably visit again (especially cause I want to try the coffee!)

2022-05-07Both great classics and super original flavors in one cute shop. Been here twice on our vacation in the area and tried most flavors. The churro cruller was out of this world: fluffy , airy , crunchy... The Nutella buttercream was lovely, as well as the lavender / lemon curd. I would be here weekly if I lived around.

2022-05-04This a cute spot and their donuts look beautiful. But to be honest the donut I had was so sweet that I didnt enjoyed it. Maybe I need to try a different kind or just the regular donuts that they have.

2021-10-11This was a fantastic discovery during a short stay in nearby Oceanside. Staff was amazing and these were easily in our top five donuts. The cake donut we tried melted in our mouth with a great slightly crisp outside texture. Also highly recommend sampling a “cruffin” - a muffin with flaked layer pastry. Unbelievably delicious!

2022-03-26We have tried lots of donuts in our life. Of course, classic donuts are a classic - however, these guys give a great mix + upgrade to classics. They have a wonderful variety of GOODS for vegans + ones who are gluten free. They really put thought into every detail + their customer service is really something admirable. They were super helpful + accommodating! Whenever we are in Carlsbad, The Goods is a must stop for us!

2022-01-29Outstanding donuts, super fresh tasting. Staff are friendly as well. This place is a must!
