This is my favorite nursery in the Bay. They have great prices, plants you wont find starts for anywhere else, and everyone who works there is delightful. If you want to grow medicinal herbs, native plants, or just have a traditional veggie or herb garden, this place will hook you up. They have fruit trees at great prices too, many are grafted so you only need one tree for cross pollination. They also carry the best types of potting soil for your cannabis plants, if thats something youre looking for.

Great place to find plants that will thrive in local conditions. The main guy there doesnt seem very sociable, but once you engage with him youll see he is a font of practical advice and gardening wisdom. Im not sure what the hours are anymore, but I was there today buying a tomato plant and certainly recommend the place. Theyve got veggies and herbs and succulents and fruit trees and many more.

Couldnt recommend this place more! The owners are incredible: knowledgable, kind, and very easy-going. We stopped by this place right before closing time after unsuccessfully looking for budget plants at some of the bougier stores in Oakland. There is a pretty big selection with quite low prices, and we picked up a few herbs for our kitchen (about $3.5 each), a bag of soil, and some secondhand terracotta pots and trays (about $1 each for the small ones, and $10 for larger), and are in great condition after a quick rinse!). Love the community focus. Bonus points -- there were two lovely big dogs hanging around!

I like Spiral Gardens a lot. I have been shopping here for many years. I am always met with a smile, a positive helpful attitude, and knowledgeable owners. I love it that they also focus on community education and involvement at this business. They have a great selection of plants too.

Great, locally run plant nursery and non profit, approved of by the city and the neighborhood. They also teach classes have and have a community garden adjacent to their plant nursery across the street. Selection of plants include medicinal herbs, edibles and natives. Maybe not the most comprehensive collection of plants compared to Berkeley Hort but or East Bay nursery but they made up for it in prices and community worth. Love this place.

You’ll think you’ve died and gone to hippie heaven. Big bags of compost for $8, potting soil for $6. Starts galore.

If you are making a productive garden, I found a wide selection of healthy herbs, vegetables, natives, and citrus compared to other nurseries in the bay area. Lovely community garden.

Small and independently owned, this nursery stocks a surprising brush off unusual and hard to find plants. Their focus is on edible and medicinal plants but they also offer ornamentals great for attracting pollinators to your garden. Owners are a little quirky, but feeding and know their stuff. If you want to grow your own permaculture food first this is absolutely the best place to start.

I have volunteered with Spiral for over 8 years - learning a lot about edibles, herbal and beneficial plants. The farm North side of Oregon Street across from the nursery is where I first met the Spiral folks at a public teaching, by Daniel Miller the ED of the Non Profit. It has been a great experience as a neighbor to build and plant year after year over 17 beds of very productive soil that yield greens year around, seasonal veggies and practicing sustainable farming in this urban setting. we have chickens and ducks for eggs and composting. The connection to this piece of land and its environs through meeting people and their children have greatly rooted me to the community, and continue to help me grow within and support a project that is in harmony. If you are in the neighborhood please drop in on Sundays from 1 PM to Sundown to work the land, learn from our experience and thrive.
