I always pop in here whenever in town. I mainly do vintage records, and while they have a good amount of vintage and used, this is where I go if I want to find a new recent pressing of an older record that I cant find for a fair price. Jazz section always has some good new pressings of older gems always around $20. Downside is, you arent going to find anything sealed here really, as they take the vinyl out of every record and keep it stored behind the desk in the backroom. Would prefer to open some of these myself and dont know of any other stores in California that have this procedure, but is what it is I guess.
Always the best place to find all vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and Beyond! Ken is the owner and just one of the most genuine honest good dude that will go out of his way to get you what you want. And if Ken doesnt have the item you want he will get you a copy quick. This place has not only the generic radio play barf music, he can get you the rarest of the rare albums that you would dream of having. Spin is the place to fix your fix of music. Thats all I got peace!
Cool place, Thay have A LOT of records, CDs, Tapes and 8 Traks, yes 8 Traks. I got Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax. Thay also sell sleeves if you need new ones for your records. I got a couple for my Dr. Demento records. Its a full 2 hour radio show complete with commercials. Dr. Demento sent it to me in 1989
Pretty cool place, loved the stuff I found in there. Got a couple records myself and worth every penny. The only thing is that its a little bit too crowded space wise. I get they want to put out as much as possible, but its a little overwhelming and I couldnt focus on just one thing. Pretty cool items though, range from shirts to pop figures to records and CDs. Loved it overall
Fantastic old school record store. Be prepared to gawk at musical treasures from floor to ceiling and your ears will titillate from the most likely unfamiliar but soothing sounds emanating throughout the store. Carlsbad Village has changed a lot from the time I was in high school (nearly 20 years ago) but this store has kept true to what makes it great. A huge selection of vinyl, cassette tapes, music VHS & DVDs (both official and bootlegs), band shirts, stickers, posters, vinyl box sets, CDs, and most importantly, one of the best record store staff you will encounter. Its not a huge space like Amoeba or Rasputin, but honestly, that is what makes this place all the more special. I have never been disappointed in over the 25 years of visiting this shop. The owner is super cool. When I have shopped here with my friend, who is wheelchair bound and has cerebral palsy, the owner does not flinch and offers to help with anything we may need while being very respectful. With that being said, the aisles are a little tight but can accommodate a single regular wheelchair. Just be prepared to back up slowly and definitely have someone around to help guide you between the aisles.
Small/medium music shop in Carlsbad Village. Half the store is vinyl and other half is CDs. Most people go for the vinyl. Small selection of stickers/patches/collectibles. Pretty good selection of 45s. I hate to give 4 stars, but prices are a little steep on a lot of items.
Lots of genres. cd’s, cassettes, and records they have it all, today I bought awaken my love by childish gambino and stanktona by outkast My only issue is that it’s disorganized and you get lost pretty easily, but I found the stuff that I wanted after a bit. Will be going again any time soon. (When I have to money of course)
Spin Records is the ultimate in the audiophile experience. They have a massive inventory of vinyl, CDs and tapes spanning all genres. New AND used, classics and recent. The staff is SUPER KNOWLEDGEABLE and helpful. You could easily spend hours diving into the stacks to find your gems. If you are new to town or passing through, make SURE you stop in and browse a bit (locals already know!). Oh, make sure you pick up a tee-shirt, too!
For hardcore record collectors the store is not so great although it is really large its really for people who are looking more for just new records that they could buy online but they just want to pick up there and maybe some odds and ends as far as CDs or maybe DVDs its good for that but not for a hardcore record collector you better off just shopping online or going to standards records in Vista I would recommend that
This place is awesome. Best record store anywhere. As an Ohioan I have been going there every time I am in the Carlsbad area. I have been there at least 15 times now over the years and am glad Spin is still going strong when most record stores have disappeared. Special place. Well run, and you can find or preview whatever youd like. Spin are meticulous curators of music and document all the new releases in the tiniest of print on a white board as you walk in. In love the passion the staff have for all music and anytime I am in the area, I will be coming back to visit my favorite record store in the U.S. I first set foot in Spin at age 16. 22 years later I just keep going back to see what else I might discover. Each visit is like being transported back in time. The music may change, but Spin stays the same!
Great new and used record store in Carlsbad. Store is crammed full with records and CDs, and selection was pretty great. Vinyl selection was geared mostly to rock, but they also have a good selection of reggae. Prices are a little high on some of the used vinyl but they seem pretty selective about what they buy so that justifies it somewhat.
This shop has records I’d never thought I’d find. It’s my favorite spot in north county. The owner is a really chill guy who helped me fix my turntable for free and offered to let me bring it back if it was working right. SUPER COOL.The employees there are incredibly knowledgeable and many of them have their own bands and vinyls in the shop. I suggest picking up the local band The Gift Machine. A chick who works there will show you right where to find it and listens to your taste pointing out things that you may have never heard of but when you listen, it’s a true gift of hers (no pun intended). Ask for Alanna. She’s always been down to show me things I never heard of and now are my favorites.I have hella love for this spot. From vinyls, to classic cassettes, and demo cds you can’t find anywhere else.If you want something obscure, go here.Mad love for these guys
Went into the shop to see if they had ANY MTV Unplugged CD’s and or records. The lady quickly told me she just sold the Nirvana unplugged. Great, I didn’t ask for what you sold, but rather what you have; which was nothing. She then asked if I wanted her to order me the CD/record online. Ummm, I think I can do that on my own. Thanks tho.
No room to walk with only a handful of people in the store, the new records are opened, the used records are on the floor in hard to get to places and over-priced, the staff didnt really seem that friendly. I was looking forward to going, but dont really plan on going back.
One of few places left that have genuine vinyl, tape and CDs for any collector. It is a little tight inside so suggest no strollers or anything that isnt necessary to bring in as the aisles are a bit tiny. Staff is helpful and know where things are so if youre looking for a specific artist they will know.
This is a MUST for any vinyl junkie!!I bought so many eclectic soundtracks from them.Little Miss Sunshine and Chris Mayfields, Superfly, to name 2. Very competitively priced compared to online!!!!!Nice collection of prized vinyl and collectible new Mondo records.Such a fun novelty shop, even if you do not buy records.Great atmosphere and helpful staff.Ordered a Chriss Joss record they did not have in stock, and they were happy to ship it to me in AZ!!
Great Staff, although dont trust their limited knowledge of Pressings (to be fair it is a rarity to have a shop that is good with that now). Wide selection, new vinyl is well displayed, however if you dont like bending to the floor, dont come here expecting used to be easily accessible.
Ive bought 3 different records from this store and all three have been warped. They take all of the new records out of their sleeves and store them in the back until you bring them the empty sleeve from the shelves. The selection here is good but it makes no sense to be opening up the new records, damaging them, and then still selling them as new/unopened quality records.
Spin records is where it’s at found my Mac Dre. On vinyl rainbow splattered great morning to call guitar center only to have my slick Rick vinyls fail my order twice. Now I was against calling F.Y.E. So I hit up spin record in less then a minute seconds it took I am telling it only took seconds for this smart Gal to take down my name and number and Order. Well call you when it gets in for 25.99 I am sold to spin records because of this professional girl she stays focused and on target 🎯
I didnt even realize this place was in Carlsbad til the day i accidentally drove past it a few years bak. My bad cuz its a sik record store! And theyve been round 4evr. Al these years ive missed out. If your into an obsolete hobby as buying music anymore. Ha! Ive got my music app but i still support the cause and cd/record hunt. Pretty well organized here. Tight space but has everything genre speaking. Cd, vinyl, cassette, live documentaries, box sets, shirts, movies etc. The prices are kinda depending on what your gettn. Gets high but Have deal cds, and the price goes up in how well known the group is or rare the album is. Great location near other shops and food walking distance. Im jus glad they are still around! Record stores are slim in choice now days. Support your local record store!
Spin records is now a Carlsbad institution. Go say hi to Ken and his crew and fercryinoutloud buy some music! I always dig through the used LPs and CDs for hidden treasures. As youre digging, you might realize that everything feels a little light. The actual discs are behind the counter. But dont let that scare you, let it free you!

2022-04-11Accessibility: there is a ramp to get up to the store but once you are there, it is not wheelchair accessible Inside at all. The store isles are so thin I barely fit through walking. I had to pass by another person at one point and my body literally touched theirs because we could not fit through without touching. No way a wheelchair would make it through here. I am an ambulatory wheelchair user so I know. It is also very loud inside with the music turned up high, so if you need a more quiet environment, bring ear plugs.Masks: some of the employees wear masks and some dont. Most guests now are not wearing masks, but I have seen some wear them (as of 4-10-22).Experience: one of the records I bought here skips on the two record players I have so I called the store and let them know. A really nice woman answered and told me I can come return it for store credit or they can order me a new one! Wow, fantastic service! This is what makes a record store great. When I came in to talk with them about this record, a woman named Sara was incredibly helpful and kind. Thanks so much! I really appreciate this. I will definitely be back to support a business that is nice to their customers.

2022-04-08Katie is awesome, I called to see if they had a vinyl Ive been looking for in stock. She said they didnt but she would call me if it came in. She was so kind, and when it came in, she called me, we are super excited to have found this great shop!! Great communication, great prices, and clearly great stock

2022-03-26Great selection, great vibe, and also many opportunities for unique colored vinyls! When you go over to the counter the staff inspect the record and handle it with great care. Couldnt ask for anything more! Prices are ~$20 for most things which is also expectable at this point in time.

2022-05-06I like the selection for older rock/punk A lot of late 70s early 80s punk/alternative offerings. You can find some gems in the Blues and Funk sections. I havent browsed through the Jazz too much as my dad has a good collection of old Jazz albums, I dont like the classical selection, but I find that other record stores Ive looked at are light on classical. It is a better place for buying new prints re-released albums. They have a lot of used albums, but the used are not as well organized and I dont have as much patience sifting through used albums that arent easily accessible or sorted, but thats just me Im not a collector I like the ritual of putting an album on and listening to it.There is a large selection of new arrivals (used records) in a rack to sift through and a lot of piles of used records underneath the main racks for hunter/gatherer types. The staff is friendly, its a little packed in, but I like having a larger selection vs elbow room. I compared the selection to some other local stores and it seems better, lots of albums that I wouldnt expect to find new and artists that arent easy to find or under represented elsewhere.

2021-04-15I love it here. Theyve been a welcome part of the Village for years. Small shop, mighty inventory. Disclaimer: I dont hate the Eagles but this picture by the registers made me laugh. Only Southern Californians are allowed to have strong Eagles opinions: thems the rules.

2022-02-27Ive been to a few North County record stores and in my opinion, this place is the best. They have a great selection, they have awesome customer service and the prices are competitive. Will definitely return to this place for my music needs.
