Places a good place to go to to buy comics and other things but if you were to sell your PS4 with no controllers or Xbox and so on this is not the place to sell games at at all I was offered only $50 in store credit versus probably $20 in cash for my PS4 thats not messed up but if you were to go anywhere I suggest to go to downstairs game shop I can always say that right now after today theyre your best bet theyre located downtown.
I got there I was told the Owner would be there well I arrived and yes he was there so a nice lady told me where to put my items I was trying to Sell and I waited and waited the Owner was so rude, but then when he finally came over to see my stuff he had a guy call to see how much the 4 to. Spiderman was on Ebay, I already news he said it was 100 and something, but I told him I did not expect top $$ so he offers me $5, If Owner was a Super Hero his name would be Super cheep skate Man, it upset me All Day
I have heard of inflation but 25 dollars (cash) 28 on card for a STRUCTURE DECK is actually highway robbery. I had wished I had been there when my friend purchased the decks. On TCG Player they are 14.99 at TCG direct prices already more costly option. I have always advocated supporting local card shops but today I wish I had bought this online.**EDIT** The owner of the shop did indeed refund me the correct price of the decks when I returned. I am thankful that that they followed through and had great customer service.
I was really ready to make this place my go-to comic book store, but one of the employees made me feel taken advantage of and it left a bad first impression.I pre-ordered a limited edition book for $60, and when I went to pick it up, the employee asked me for $100. I think the store thought it would be in high demand, so they wanted to make more money off of it.I wound up asking for a refund a few days later. The owner tried to make it up to me by giving me a discount on the standard edition of the book, and it did help get the bad taste out of my mouth. But I havent been back because I dont feel good about shopping there anymore.I love to support local comic book stores and I would have been interested in coming there monthly, but the bad first impression is going to stick for a while.
Me and a friend of mine were excited to get back into collecting Pokémon cards recently , and we thought the prices here couldn’t be beat! So we checked it out, excited to see what we could possibly pull. When actually, we pulled absolutely nothing! And after seeing similar reviews, now we are inclined to believe they reseal their TCG products. Purchased one Pokémon booster box here and got no pulls, only got 2 V’s and a Vmax, nothing else. To further test this theory, a friend of mine bought a booster box and we again received 2 V’s and a Vmax. Pokémon collectors know how unlikely something like this is. I would just stick to Legends
Very cool place. They have old school video game councils for sale.So much to take in as you walk around, ever square inch is utilized.Today is free comic book day so I grabbed me an X-men gold#1 and The Walking Dead #163.While I was walking around I spotted a cool hologram Batman DC Universe rebirth #22 and took it home with me.Over all this is a great comic book store with a friendly owner. If your like me and nerd out on comic books Id definitely recommend them.
Horrible customer service hung up on me multiple times when I was trying to ask questions about certain cards didnt let me finish without cutting me off and was super rude the whole time would not recommend this store for people that are just trying to have a good time ask multiple questions about cards and buy things I would definitely recommend you go to different places because they seem to have no interest in helping customers with the questions they have especially whoever is working right now at4pm on tue may 24th 2022 super disrespectful
Ive been buying from Space Cats since I was a kid. I remember when they used to be off Bascom. You can buy pretty much anything here: cards, comics, manga, retro game stuff. Everyone is super nice and helpful and knowledgeable. The only negative is the ordering. Ive ordered books and it either takes a long time to come in or it doesnt come at all, but theres never any communication letting me know. Other than that I definitely recommend this place.
This is a comic shop of the old guard. The employees will speak to you and develop a rapport, as well as share their passions and interests. Good stock, lots of silver/golden age to drool over. New stuff constantly flows in. Very accommodating with regards to ordering and subscriptions. I go for the comics, my son goes for the TCG.
This place may be good for comics, but I tend to go there for trading cards. These cards are really over priced and it feels as if they only want to push their comic books. One time I called to ask if they carried a specific trading card product, and they asked me if I was local, and if I was in their database before they would answer my question. Then, I got an absurd price for the product! Also, I was in the store one day and asked how much a pack of 100 penny sleeves cost, and was quoted $10. For those unfamiliar, I can find a pack of 100 penny sleeves for 1-2$. Really?! They don’t care about the customers that are in there for cards. The funny thing is, if they did, they would make a lot more money. I have a feeling they make more money off of trading cards rather than their comics, even with their absurd prices, but I could be wrong. Oh well. Go somewhere else if you’re looking for trading cards.Edit: The card product I asked about was the Pokémon celebrations 25 year ultra premium collection. I was told it would cost me over $400, and I checked several other hobby shops that sold them for well under $400. Also, I was quoted $10 for those penny sleeves. You didn’t give me that quote, Bruce, but some lady working there did (not the older lady). If you think you couldn’t find penny sleeves for 1-2$ a month ago, go ahead and check. I guarantee that you could find a source at that price range. And no, I was not talking about top loaders. Btw, my incident regarding the penny sleeves was many months ago, not last month. So don’t present irrelevant information to fit your narrative and discredit this review.
As comic stores go, This one is okay. Selection of older comics is so so. I have seen better. Prices were a bit on the higher end. All and all if you are a comic fan I am sure you could possibly find something there. Prices are not negotiable, which makes it a bit harsh when it comes to comics, I mean for un-rated and certified ones.
Super cool! been in a few times as a beginner collector of comics and funko pops. They have the biggest comic book selection i have ever seen in my life. They have a huge section of 2$ comics as well. They don’t have a big pop section but they do have them. It is a comic book store not a funko store though! You may go in and read books off the shelf like a library, and hang out in there!Love this store and will go to it for the rest of my life.
As an artist who loves to airbrush and customized motorcycles this is a great place to get ideas we are comic books color schemes backgrounds I mean this is my little honeycomb hideout store you can get very creative its a great place for creativity and motivation especially with the color schemes new and used issues of comic books a true treasure for any artist
We didnt realize how BIG a deal this Batman Fortnite Zero Point crossover has become. I called to ask if they had it in stock. They didnt have and they had been bombarded with calls, but the staff was still courteous and took the time to talk to us and take calls. It was very nice to hear good customer service. We stopped by and bought some Pokemon packs because of their good service, very much appreciated!
Went in looking for pokemon and they had a whole bunch but they were a little over priced. I know the reselling market is crazy but they had prices 10 to 20 dollars over what other family owned card shops were selling them for. I was kind of dumbfounded and shocked when the cashier was telling me some of the prices on items I was looking at
Giant variety of comics, fair selections of magic cards and manga as well as some DND books and paraphernalia. There was also a retro games section that I did not check out but looked worth its salt.Nice staff, can hold a conversation.Cramped atmosphere, but it adds to the library feel of the establishment.Loved it.
A local comic and card game shop. they have pretty competitive pricing for an LGS for sealed Magic the gathering (MTG) products. Ive bought couple of boxes from them recently because it was a good balance of price and supporting local business. if youre looking to buy sealed Magic products from and LGS, I recommend contacting them for pricing.
First of all we have spent a fortune in this store despite the poor customer service. Today we were looking to purchase Sandman Vol 2. It wasn’t in stock so we looked through the individual graphic novels to work out which to buy in order for my son to carry on the story. We had the books on the floor as we were checking. The owner came over to us stating they have tables to look at the books on (which at the time were full) Ok I get it but his tone was very rude ( a common occurrence especially on the phone). We got up put the books back and I told him we wouldn’t be returning. As we got to the car he came out to which point he called me an ‘asshole’ multiple times in front of my son and then the old man fronted up to me as though he wanted a fight. Seek help buddy and for those who are thinking of shopping here. Beware!
Reasonably priced merchandise and a lot of it. They have games for every video game console both new and old. Lots of comic books. Merchandise and nicely organized and easy to navigate. Friendly people asking to help you find whatever and answer questions. Employees seem knowledgeable about the merchandise. Theyve obviously had issues with people stealing comic books. There are a lot of cameras and bars on the windows. I was asked to leave my backpack behind the counter.
Great LCS even tho it’s not our LCS lol we have to drive an hour to get there but is definitely worth it. Have a good selection of Pokémon cards. They also buy cards which is also nice. They have so much more then just Pokémon cards. They have magic, yu-go-oh, Pokémon probably more that i don’t know lol. Also funko’s, TONS of comics, card sleeves an boxes, all the vintage video games an maybe computer games.Staff is very nice also so much stuff you just have to go in an check it all out
Very fun comic book shop. They are well stocked and have a wide variety. The staff can be a bit weird at times, but overall theyre friendly and eager to talk to the customers. I want to point out that there are prints that were sourced online that I think are being sold without the artists permission. Some of them still have the watermark on them, so always ask before you buy.
I cant speak too much to the merchandise, however I can say that the things I wanted to buy were marked up about 90% from retail. I can also say the staff ranged from strange to rude. I left dissatisfied and confused, my entire time with this store just made me feel uncomfortable. Lots of cool items, but I will not be returning.
Nice cozy store with a huge selection of comics and games. The store is lit well, easy to browse, and the staff is very friendly and happy to help you. They moved locations a while ago so some of the old reviews are no longer valid. Im not into comics but the selection is diverse enough to make me interested. The prices seem fair aswell. The old game consoles are interesting too, so if youre into that youre bound to find something youll like. Also, the Friday Night Magic community is excellent and managed well. Only problem I can see is the store is quite small, so sometimes its hard to navigate when it fills up for events. I got turned down because the midnight event was filled up, but he was very generous in his apology and I was happy to come the next day for another event. Space cat is a great store for any comic/retro game/magic the gathering enthusiasts!
The staff is very friendly. I even met the owner and he was pretty funny and friendly as well. I really like the store. I have not been into a comic book store in a while and it was nice to go into one and experience the atmosphere. I even had a nice conversation with one of the customers. I highly recommend this store.
Received a resealed $550 box of Pokemon Evolutions from this location and the owner, Bruce Tritch, refused to even address it. Despite being ripped off I still made patronage to the shop until I bought $204 worth of products and when asked if they could do $200, Bruce was hesitant but agreed only if I dont have to hear about that box againThis is not the way to treat your customers, especially those who are dropping multiple hundreds of dollars per visit.Stay away at all costs and do yourself a favor and visit Legends, Illusive Comics or Hijinx for better pricing and way better customer service.
The people that work there are nice and helpful. They dont talk down to you if you arent knowledgeable about comics. They help you find what suits you best. Its kind of a small store, but I love coming here. I recently unearthed an old stash of comics and cards and they gave me great ideas on how to price and protect my items.
I would rate this a 5 stars as I really enjoy visiting this store for Magic card bundles and comics just for fun and reasonable prices. I am rating this 3 stars because an employee really turns me off when I visit by the name of Jeremy. I asked him why he enjoys working there and he responds its none of my buisness and he doesnt like Magic cards or Comics...? Really turns me off to deal with employees that dont know how to reasonably talk to a customer. Its easy to suggest ONE THING you enjoy about an entire shop and its really not personal or MAYBE you SHOULDNT be WORKING THERE??? There was only 1 other person in the shop at this time as well. The other employee was an older woman who knew far less about magic and was wonderful to talk to in comparison.(I rated this up 2 stars because of the awesome employee I talked to yesterday, also I really do enjoy coming here)
Entered the place with a backpack, and was asked by the employee behind the desk if I could leave it behind the counter. Reasonable request, so I handed him my bag. To show I wasnt being sour I jokingly asked if he was going to steal it and laughed. Someone not in the conversation took it upon themselves to tell me if i didnt like it then I can get out of his store. Very sad to know Ive been supporting this company for over 3 years and will be disrespected for making a joke by someone thats not in the conversation Im having with an employee. I highly recommend everyone go to Illusive Comics & Games, where they treat customers with respect and value their business.
I loved this store, I remember back in the day when I believe this store was off of Bascom Ave. I went there and saw it was closed down. Then I found it at its new location and I was real happy. This is where I bought my Nintendo 64 console. Im glad I got my hands on this system again cause I had to sell my original one a long time ago. Havent been the same since. I went here on a whim one day, and saw that they had games for the system, and found out that they had one available, bought it on the spot. No regrets, totally works. Going to keep coming back every once in a while. Might even pick up some Deadpool comics.. Great spot, definitely a go to spot.
Great selection of books, indie and from the big 2 as well. A lot of pop culture memorabilia ei videogames old and new. Definitely a place i would be coming back to often. Be forewarned though parking is smallish, and the entrance and sign is kinda small from the street so you might miss it. Otherwise a good spot for pop culture things.
AWESOME!The people were nice, and i got a couple games and a console. They all work perfectly. Its been two years and I would like to update my review:I have been going there often and I have never had any issues with anything ive bought or sold. It is an amazing store, and even after they changed locations they continued to be helpful and kind. Thank you.
My fiancé and I were in the area and decided to check out. The selection was good, the staff was friendly and it was an enjoyable experience. I found to silver age FF fairly priced. With Ebay saturating the comic book dealer market and giving private collectors a platform to sell as well, I am surprised stores like these are still in business. I definitely will give them my businesses. BTW, Charlie was too adorable for words!
Came here to check out the shop as I was told there was a Comic/Card shop near the mall. I was very disappointed by the poorly lit room and dusty feel of the store. The store felt congested and musty. I went to look at the cards they had on sale, while a non buying customer spent minutes block the case and talking to the staff. I was finally greeted by the nice girl behind the counter trying to best handle my questions. Slightly more overprice than your usual store, but can understand where businesses need to make profit especially at their size. Would not come back here unless something strongly convinced me to do so.
Original review: It was a great store. A large selection of books, video games, and cards. The person behind the counter was also very friendly.Edit: We preordered 2 books. However, when we contacted them to check the status of the orders they did not respond. We did so 1 time for 4 days in a row. On the 5th day we had enough and decided to cancel, of which we got no response. 2 weeks later the owner contacted us telling us the books were in. We told him 2 weeks earlier we sent him a cancellation request. He got mad and said we were his most uncooperative costomer in 15 years. He is the worst owner I have ever seen and we will not be returning again. We ended up paying him for the books so he would shut up.
I started coming here around January this year, and its become a weekly (sometimes biweekly) trip for me and my friends. Everybody there is great and knows their stuff; there have been some great conversations and recommendations for books, and our first impressions of the store were what kept us coming back. Always a highlight of my week.
I started going to SpaceCat when it was still on Bascom Ave and I was amazed at the size of store and the amount of Comics, TPBs and Toys available. They staff has always been friendly and helpful when looking for things. The new location at 1415 W San Carlos St. seems a bit sketchy from the outside as its somewhat tucked away from the main road and has bars on all the windows. The inside is not as roomy as the old location but it works well and I was able to find my way around. Looking forward to setting up a few subscriptions.
Went there a couple days ago (7/29/15) and after taking a moment to find it as I didnt see the sign out front. Inside is a little crowded but thats only because they have a LOT of stuff, which I love. Their back stock is amazing and almost solely what I bought, sadly I wasnt feeling well and was unable to go threw it all as there was so much, my friend and I plan to go back in a week and a half or so! Its much better then what Monterey has to offer me and Santa Cruz has to offer her.
If youre looking for comics, theyre probably more helpful but I was looking for cards and the person I was talking to seemed annoyed I was wasting their time looking for some Commons that had gotten lost in shipping. I asked if they had the cards and the response was We have some expensive stuff. Some not expensive stuff. And we have some packs but nothing specific. I said oh, okay, thanks. and was about to ask another question when I was hung up on.Story 2: I once went to spacecats to participate in their mtg game day and the person who was supposed to run the event called in sick so he could attend fanime! The person at the counter that informed us of this offered to try to run the event but she was not a judge and we didnt want the only employee in the store to be troubled with this. This happened a couple years ago.
F this place is basically an adult dressed as a kid , they are scared of covid , can’t even look through singles because they are to lazy to disinfect every card like if your life depended on it , while you can go to target or any other convenience store and browse and touch items lol , what a joke , lost my support y’all can drown
I have been drafting here on Wednesday nights for 2 months. I went to draft like every other time and i was informed that as of Dec 14, 2016, not only do you have to provide your DCI number but you have to provide your name, cell phone number, and email address to be add to their promotional software. I told the clerk working behind the register that my DCI number and my $13 fee should be enough to play. That is when the clerk stated that if i did not provide that information per the owners request I have to pay an additional surcharge if i wanted to play MTG standard. Not only did i refuse to provide that information but refused to pay the surcharge.Let me get this straight your going to let me play a game that i have to pay to begin with and your going to spam and sell my information, I dont think so, i will go somewhere else to play and spend my money somewhere else.
I just called to ask a question about buy/selling Yugioh cards. Person who answered, “sometimes.” I then explain that im trying to get out of the game and asked if they’ll buy 9 cards totaling $230 on TCGplayer (these are new and meta relevant to the game), person said, “that’s ridiculous, i could go and buy that directly.” And something about a buy price. To which, I admit, I should have taken into account. I thank them for the answer saying that’s good to know. However, under that person’s breath, just as i was about to hang up, he called me “insane”. Calling me insane for asking a question? Okay.
Obviously someone is paying to have negative reviews removed. 3 years ago, Space Cat was littered with way more negative than positive reviews on YELP. I actually cant believe this place in still in business. They ripped me off back in 06 for $150.00. During the economic downturn, the owner bragged on Craigslist that he would pay only pittance wages (minimum wage) for a store manager . Unbelievably he said this outright in print (I have the printout of the Craigslist Ad) because he knew people were so incredibly desperate for work. I hope his daughter is happy that her education is partially subsidized by her father stealing from people.
JAWSOME PLACE!! IM THERE EVERY WEDNESDAY WITHOUT A DOUBT!! BIG UPS TO TOMMY FOR MAKING MY EXPERIENCES ALWAYS WELCOMING!! .. ONE THING...WISH THEY WOULD RECIEVE MORE VARIANT COVERS.. THEN I WOULDNT HAVE TO GO PURCHASE VARIANT ELSEWHERE (ANOTHER SHOP AROUND TOWN). OTHER THAN THAT GREAT PLACE!! KEEP IT UP SPACECATS!!

2022-05-31I recently got back into collecting comics so Ive been reacquiring my old favorites. Purchased an Uncanny X-Men #275 and found that I already had it when I got home! Bruce was kind enough to allow me to exchange it for a 3.75 Marvel Universe Psylocke action figure. Kevin processed the transaction and provided exceptional customer service. Great prices, toys, comics, cards, gaming, you name it! Highly recommend!

2022-02-24Their game selection is hit or miss, but not at their fault, it just depends who sells what to them. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Im also low-key into graphic novels and they have everything I can imagine. They even had a couple video game art books which I was more than happy to buy!

2022-08-12Awesome place, I came the first time and I couldnt believe I didnt know about this place sooner! The employee that helped us was quick to locate the books I was looking for. And the prices are very reasonable.

2022-03-15Went in not expecting to leave with so much goodies, but left surprised and happy! It was the first time me and my friends had gone to San Jose and this was one of the places we found to check out. The selection was massive from dark horse comics, to marvel and DC comics to even a few cartoon network comics! The layout of the store was very nice and easy to find things. Staff seemed very friendly and the comics I bought were fairly price. 10/10! When I visit San Jose again, I will definitely be coming back to this place!

2022-08-22Huge selection of comics. I love how organized everything is. Don’t be scared to talk to the workers/owners, they’re always willing to help you find something. Sometimes it gets busy, so don’t be offended if they can’t help you right away.

2022-03-14Friendly and helpful staff is the foremost appeal of this store, but their selection and atmosphere is great as well! All-around excellent choice for keeping up with your comics. Plus Space Cat is just a charming name to me as a cat lover. 🐈

2022-07-20Silverage books are pricey with inventory being about 12 or more short boxes and what is on the wall. Offers 10% off on silverage purchase over 100 dollars cash payment. Will not come down on pricing. Also has older figures, toys and untested video games. Staff was friendly and helpful. Use to feel the need to stop in when in the area and find a deal but will shop else where in the bay area in my quest for back issues and deals. There are so many more comic book stores in the area that I need to experience.

2022-06-23Came in for some backer boards and bags and they had a great selection. Staff was very friendly and struck up a nice conversation. Ill be back again and again and I encourage you to support this small business.
