Excellent al pastor tacos! I also loved the hot salsa bar!Went back a few days later and had some more great food! Also met Mike and chatted about the first time my family and I came here 15+ years ago! Kids are all grown, but it’s still a great place to visit on my own!
This place is a little whole in the wall! It’s a take out spot. Reviews are highly falsified. Fish Tacos are sardines deep battered and served with loads of cabbage the price is ridiculous the entire set up is whack! Walk away no run! Avocado guacamole we ordered was old moldy salsa bar stunk ! They call themselves a bar!? It’s whack!! Just walk away! As they do even offer parking! The place plainly just sucks!!
Terrible. I ordered food for pick up and got back to our place to eat and they literally covered my fish bowl with moldy avocado. Black, moldy avocado. If they think serving moldy food is OK, I wasn’t confident in the fish underneath.I was able to get a refund and they offered to replace it but wasn’t going to drive another 30 minutes to go get questionable food at bedtime for my kids. Maybe just don’t serve rotten food?!?!
Had to ask several times to find out where to get a drink, and food was served without napkins, Silverware, or water. Chips were a $2 upcharge if you wanted salsa or queso (chips dont come with queso). Unbussed tables everywhere and dirty napkins and trash on the ground everywhere. 2 stars for the cooks who actually make good food, but everything else was trash.
We ate here twice in the same day. I can say the vibe of this location seems on par with a struggling business about to go under. We decided to try their breakfast. It sounded good, but it was confusing. I really do not know why they would go buffet with things like silverware, butter, jam, etc. for breakfast. The breakfast itself was disappointing. My eggs were over scrambled and the bacon was super old and nasty. The hashed browns and pancakes were good, but I was expecting something a little less generic chain restaurant from dining at a local eatery. Additionally, breakfast felt like they added it to create a new revenue stream. Though we were disappointed with breakfast, we figured it was likely not their forte as they are a taco shop and they probably have super rocking tacos. This is where the hopefully we wont have our food truck repod next week vibe was really evident. We came back for tacos and they were out of a big chunk of their menu. No fish or seafood tacos of any kind. Okay, no problem. I ordered something else. We paid for fountain sodas. Almost all of what we would want to drink was totally out.I can say two of the three tacos I ordered were really good. The smokey nopales sung out with the choir of black beans and cheese. The al pastor taco was pretty good. My pork belly tacos were not crispy enough and it was cut into big chunks that were overwhelming for the tiny tortillas. My fellow diners carnita tacos were under-seasoned. The lunch was better than the breakfast for sure, but the whole experience was not worthwhile. Dining out is supposed to be a treat and not annoying.I will say the staff was fantastic and incredibly nice. The bathrooms could have used some more love between meal periods, but were fairly decent. This place has a cute vibe, but did not match the excellent dining experience I had at other restaurants in the same area. Also, the paper towels as napkins - I get it. I just thought it was weird and distracting to store the extra rolls on the mantle of the fireplace and then store parts of the trash can in the fireplace. Everything just needed more love - especially the employees. They were really doing their best with what they have. I really hated working in restaurants that were out of a ton of stuff - it was embarrassing and some folks did not take it well.
This was the first spot I became somewhat of a regular at when I arrived to the Village in 2014. It has a nice local feel, while having some seats facing the just street. Like many places, they always have a good representation of craft beer... Taco Tuesday and other weekly specials. They are very involved in the community. Now, I spend Taco Tuesdays here with my son. This is the only taco place hell accept!Oh, the food is good too! 😊 Pork belly, shrimp diabla, surf and turf, birria... Margaritas
My boyfriend and I were excited to try mexican food from here since we were visiting from Los Angeles. We thought it was okay but not worth the price of $40 for two people. I got a 3 taco plate and my boyfriend got a torta with a side of criss cut fries. The torta hardly had anything on it, barely any meat. We waited 30 minutes for our food which made it more disappointing to see that the food was definitely not worth the wait. I understand that its also a bar but it was too noisy, overall not coming back nor would I recommend.
We hired Senor Grubbys to cater an event in Vista, Ca and we are so glad. It was the easiest and best decision to make when it comes to event planning as they are quite efficient throughout the entire process and very communicative. I really loved working with Natalie Hammann, Catering Coordinator. She was lovely, responsive and a problem solver (tho the only issues we had were simple “where’s the best place to set up” type issues which I would expect. The food was good and enough; not too little. I would hire them over and over again if I ever have another event I need to plan. Thank you!
Delishous fresh salad, my friend got the California burrito and ate the hole thing 😋 They also support Brian Snyders art wall. Beautiful wall murals are on Senor Grubbys wall they are repainted by different artists 🎨 every few months. Great place to eat 😋. Great atmosphere 👌
WOW....WHAT A HUSTLE THEY JUST STARTED. IM SO DISSAPOINTED. We order from here about once a week at least. Half the family prefers chicken instead of carne asada. Similar to half of the State they like the California Burrito and have always SUBSTITUTED chicken instead of steak. NOT ADDED CHICKEN. Since they wont put a Chicken California on the menu they now UPCHARGE $4 to make it with chicken. I think I should still get my steak on the side since Im obviously paying for 2 proteins. Such a owner squeeze for more money even after we stayed loyal through everything over the last few years. Time to find a new burrito shop. Good thing its Southern California and they are everywhere without scamming their customers. Tonight was my last order. Its been nice Senor Grubbys but I cant support taking advantage of customers like that.
Liz is on it !! Friendly , helpful and busy as the cooks in the kitchen ! The carne asada criss cut fries were 💣 🔥 and 💰. Havent seen anyone make these with as much love, they are loaded and worth every cent! Watching plates come out has set my timeline for another visit asap. Can you open one in the i.e. ? Please and thank you. Til then Beaches ( carlsbad, oceanside, laguna) here i come !
Super quick service. We havent even gotten our drinks and sat down and the guy was asking where our table was with one of our orders in hand haha! Even though the service was quick, the food was very delicious and fulfilling. My friend got the California burrito with rice on the side, 1 garlic shrimp taco, 1 pollo asado taco, and I got the Porko Verde breakfast version burrito. The sauces here are really good, and the fountain drinks are pretty unique. I will definitely come here again!
Im conflicted because the breakfast burrito itself was pretty good tasting. But I was the only one in line, ordered one burrito, and it took nearly 10-15 minutes - very slow.I got the egg, cheese, bacon, and sausage burrito. The size was really large which is awesome but I think it had only two pieces of sausage and bacon which is a shame because that part of it was really delicious. Sadly, It was 90% egg. Not really worth it for $12. With some improvements I think it can be 5 Stars
Ive been coming here for years and the atmosphere is always fun! Great waiters and waitresses with happy attitudes. Gary the bartender is always the highlight for our meal! He is happy to entertain us with his fun conversation, diverse expertise in making drinks and bringing us yummy food! Fun music, outside patio and only a block from the beach... Highly recommend!
Super good food and tons of space...I was surprised to find the abundance of seating with such a small storefront. Oh yeah and the burritos were awesome! I ordered a fish burrito and they suggested another (cant remember the name) that had shrimp too and I loved it. Son had California with fries an he couldnt eat it all! Will definitely go back!
Sadly had the worst burrito of my life here - got the grilled veggie burrito with guac. I truly don’t think there was a lick of seasoning, salt… nothing. The veggies hardly had flavor and tasted like they were sitting in water. My fiancé had the carne asada burrito and he also complained of the lack of flavor - and he’s not picky! $26 later…. I understand why they have a sign “looking for cooks”.
This place was so good! It was really awesome cause it was also one of the only places open so late on a Tuesday night. The place was a very fun atmosphere and they had a lot of choices of beer and drinks. The man who took our order was so fun and he even gave us our drinks for free. The tacos were the bomb! The chicken was grilled and seasoned perfect! And the location was great too, right in the middle of a lot of other little shops and stuff! Will definitely be back when I visit California again!
We are from Colorado, and senior Grubby’s was supposed to be just a walk by sounds good kind of place, the staff was awesome as the food was AMAZING, I had the shrimp Diabla (was thinking of the Surf&Turf) by mistake ordered Shrimp Diabla, but still ate it, I’m not a return it kind of person, but also do not do well with hot spicy this burrito had so much flavor form the cabbage kind of salsa sauce I could not put it down spite the sweat on my head, one of the staff members was surprised I didn’t return it and got through it, my wife had the fajita rice bowl, and my daughter had the vegetarian Burrito.
By far the absolute WORSE Mexican restaurant you can imagine. So bad they should be ashamed to serve the fish tacos, hard rice and cement beans.Seriously what they called Baja fish tacos were NOT Baja style at all but breaded and I swear to God you could actually see daylight thru them! Paper thin and dry as cardboard. Pathetic at best.
Really enjoyed the Chicken Caesar Burrito in a Whole Wheat Tortilla. Good flavor on the chicken and the cilantro lime sauce was just right. My friends had the Carlsbad Burrito with carne al pastor which had some bold flavor and pineapple chunks, you will not be disappointed. Cool vibe and unique interior.
Stopped in for breakfast, didnt wanna leave. Perfect portions, a bit pricy but u get what u pay for. Very clean kitchen, I watched the cook for awhile, as he seemed very enthusiastic about his craft of culinary. This place is not your ordinary taco shop. It 1000 times better! Seems like they have back patio seating as well as an additional bar in the back. Decent amount of parking in the rear. I ordered the A.B.C. omelette.
Amazing food. Amongst two families we had the Pollo Asado burrito, Cheese Steak burrito, Fajita Rice bowl, 1/2lb of shrimp, quesadillas and the bacon dogs. All the food was so good, the salsa bar was awesome and had some of the best salsa verde, it brings some serious kick but the flavors were awesome. Amazing place to eat. I probably think about that burrito every other day, all the ingredients were very good even the tortilla which can be easy to mess up but it made the burrito better, I need this place by our house. Was very easy even with our all our kids there and well go back on our next trip to the San Diego area
Very good diabla shrimp burrito instead of beans and rice its just made with shrimp and cabbage, cream and their diabla sauce. The tortilla was very light it kind of taste like a handmade flour tortilla. OVERALL GREAT FLAVOR. Their fajita bowl could be better it was a little plain.
Ordered street taco plate. Fresh, delicious, good portions. Spacious outdoor patio dining AND outdoor bar. Pretty typical prices. 10 minutes from receipt to food, pretty fast for the start of lunch. Only complaint is a lack of spoon with my beans and rice - they assume talents I have not.Great place for breakfast, burritos, and apparently day drinking - there was a steady showing at he outdoor bar. Relaxed atmosphere.January 2021, they had a family patio separate from the bar section, which was nice. Stroller and dog friendly if youre eating outside.
We came in about 35 minutes before they closed and they were still patient with us explaining the menu. The food was delicious, a good deal from their taco Tuesday specials, and the portions were great too. Everything tasted great, the meat seasoned by spices rather than sauces, and the cheese dip had a full flavor too. We took ours home, but the outdoor bar was a fun place to hang while they made our food and had plenty of heating.
Absolute trash worst breakfast ive ever had omelette was trash overcooked meat inside was nasty overcooked bacon just crammed up in different spots my friend got biscuits and gravy and if you want to laugh order that because its the biggest joke ever two quarter sized cornbreads that are stiff as a rock in some clear gravy with one single quarter inch piece of sausage…just wow
Food is good. Salsa is great. Most of the people are really nice. Seems like they enjoy what they do for a living but theres this one kid who is at thre front taking orders, actually a grown man. I am talking well over 35, tall, regular built, but acted like hes 16. When I approached to order he asked What do you need?. Made me feel like he never reached his goals and takes it out on people who did. Really tried to brush it off while ordering my food but he looked disappointed and no care for the place. Just saw the reviews. Mold on the avocado... laters. Save the respond Señor grubbies. No money for u from me anymore. Ay te watch
I was really excited to try their tacos, they looked so good and it had great reviews but I was pretty disappointed in how mediocre they were. Just kind of bland and not even adding salsas helped much.Staff was very friendly and nice, but the food definitely lacked and makes me hesitant to try anything else.
Grubby. Grubby grubb grubb, I fell in a tub with a flub. I would feel like quite the heel if it wasnt for the meal that saved the tub with its flub. When most approach papa roach, they always have to coach. The musicians tacticians are made of pure fictions that would make Mr. Grubb go tootles with his poodles.
Señor Grubbys is the best! We actually had them cater our WEDDING and they did a fantastic job! Not only did they allow us to create a custom, breakfast-themed menu, they went out of their way to purchase gluten free options, made pancakes, MTO omelets, coffee and more! Natalie and her team were friendly, on time, easy to communicate with, and most importantly put out some great food! I would highly recommend them for catering services and of course the regular restaurant food is delicious as well, cant beat their burritos! Thanks so much!!
I live near Señor Grubbys the food is good. You cant modify anything they will mess it up. The service is terrible. Ive been there 8 times and have been served by the older bartender in the back and hes rude to everyone every time I go. Last time we were there he pretended to take our food order and then afterward said he wasnt listening. We just decided even though we like the food we wont be going back.
Local favorite, everyone there is very friendly your welcomed with a smile, great selection of crafts beers and wines. And then there is the food. Delicious.. and than the fact they give so much back to our community. Look for thier other locations Los Tacos. And senor grubbys oceanside opening soon. Those are open now but they dont stop their. They have Poke Restaurants now as well. Look them up, and visit soon. Never disappointed.
This is the best restaurant I have ever been to. they are so kind to me and my dinner group. they served us immediately with everything expected. If you want great food and service please come here. so close to restaurants and bars and hotels if you are visiting. Great food if you were craving burritos and tacos after the beach.
Best breakfast burrito in the city! And the staff was friendly and helpful as well, they really made sure our first time there was enjoyable. I had a vegetarian breakfast burrito which was great. My husband had the chicken friend steak burrito and he said it was heat as well. And the salsas and in house made hot sauces were really good as well. Tnanks for a great breakfast by the beach! We will definitely be back.
Hunter was amazing and was so apologetic for the long wait that he gave us a gift card to return and upgraded our guacamole. The food was worth the wait. We tried 6 different types of soft tacos and all were scrumptiously delicious. Chips, Pico and guacamole were fresh and delicious. We will be back.
Grubbys never disappoints! The pioneer in the gourmet taco trend, Grubbys pork belly and shrimp diablo street tacos are about as good as it gets. In fact just writing this review makes me want to head down there and gulp some down before heading down to the beach, just two blocks to the west. A true Carlsbad treasure!
Ive had some hits and misses lately. This was a definite hit. It had a local and welcoming vibe to it with the bartenders knowing a lot of the patrons by name. I feel I took up a long time trying to narrow down what I wanted to eat. I chose a tasty, yet spicy, shrimp burrito.
Food was cold and tortillas were under cook .. tried ordering by phone no answer, online access through clover was vague and incomplete .. mentioned all this to counter help and received disrespectful responses .. normally don’t write reviews but this could not be ignored !!!
I could not recommend a worse place to go. This is a Low-Rate, non traditional Americanized tacoShop. Where do I start? How about the food itself. They charge +60% higher than all other local taco shops for a burrito that is 30% smaller than any comparable alternative. More tortilla than what’s inside. Ordered 4 burritos, got three salsas. How is that acceptable? Oh and be prepared to wait, there is no sense of urgency at this establishment. Do yourself a favor and go to any of the other significantly better taco shops.
Food is good, but they used to be more about customer service. I drove out of my way 30 mins to fix a mistake of a forgotten burrito, and the original response when I got there was thatll be $12.45. After I explained I already paid for it about an hour ago the response was oh...youre good. Usually when someone goes out of their way to fix your mistake at least a coupon is thrown at them. I guess its time to expand my burrito shop selection. It was a good 10 years Grubbys.
Good fresh food. Friendly upbeat atmosphere. Selection of beers (and booze?). Very tasty toasty gigantic Tortas.Extensive menu, and the great thing is you can enjoy one street taco for less than $3 or you can buy a full meal with all the sides. Prices are very good for the area.Order at the counter they bring it to your table or you can eat at the bar.Apparently this place is off the hook and packed on holiday weekends, Spring Break and summer time.
Came here with the boyfriend earlier this week, hadnt been here in a few months but it was just as good as I remember. Hes really picky about his burritos and told me he really liked it. He had a California Burrito. I got street tacos with no meat and wasnt disappointed. Service was fast and the employee operating the front was very patient with me while I made up my mind.
I am a runner and Senor Grubbys Workout Burrito has now become a staple in my pre-run routine. I eat this burrito the evening prior to any big run or race and it gives me just the fuel I need to run dozens of miles. Also their Skinny Spicy Margarita has made its way into mine and my running groups routine as well. This place has a great variety of food and drinks that will satisfy anyones dietary lifestyles, not to mention the staff is wonderful! 10/10 Recommend!
I say this place is my best kept secret, but its so good you HAVE to share it with your friends and visitors from out of town. The tortillas are amazing and the menu can appease most taste profiles as they have a wide range of choices. For the amount of food you get, the price is great too! Gotta love Gary at the patio bar! What a guy!
The patio bar at Senor grubbys is one of our favorite lazy Sunday stops. Theres great conversation with locals and tourists alike and the bartenders make you feel right at home. Theres a wonderful selection of creative cocktails as well as ice cold beer. We love the variety of fish tacos an order several types and share. This isnt a fancy stop but it offers everything were looking for. Sun. Great drinks. Awesome food. Fair prices. Overall relaxing experience!
Love this place! Authentic Mexican with a twist of modern California living! A walk from the Carlsbad beach! And the outdoor seating is very welcoming(indoor seating also available). Just one warning! Spicy means spicy! I love spicy salsa! But I could not handle it! try it first and go from there ! Mild salsas also available Two thumbs up Señor Grubbys! Keep up the good work! Also, bar area- beer on tap! Goes well on a sunny day(most days are sunny). Enjoy!
What a treat!! Met Gary and Carrie ( hope I spelled their names right), amazing service, great conversation,..this place is a little gem for those looking for a small spot to chill, have a couple beverages, enjoy the music and the overall atmosphere of a solid beach town resturant👍🌊🏖🙏✊ dont even hesitate. Go check em out!!
First, I wanted to say is that going out to dinner with three kids isn’t easy. The restaurant tonight was really busy, and I felt the staff was overwhelmed by everything. One of the staff members, who was a white Caucasian lady that works behind the bar yelled at me for moving the table on the patio. I understand the six feet rule, but the way she talked down to me (in front of other people) was down right rude. She was disrespectful and just an angry lady. If she can’t handle customers, she is definitely in the wrong industry. I used to work as a server at Islands and I have never yelled or disrespected a customer. The food was mediocre and I don’t know why I keep ending up at this place.
Always a great experiance, we have been coming to this place for years. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is welcoming and the owner and staff are always so nice at both locations. Now you can sit here and read reviews or you can go and eat at your new favorite spot.
Visiting from Colorado, my sons soccer team stopped for dinner while we were in town for a tournament. The food was fast and delicious. Servings were generous, it actually filled up the 13 year old boys we brought. The wait staff was great. I highly recommend. Ive saved the restaurant in my map so we can go back!
Wanted to share our LOVE for ~senor grubbys !!! All the north county locations, but we recently stayed local at Carlsbad location ~ They are the best ~ delicious food and service ,but overall they are super friendly professional and awesome 👏 they delivered to our location so convenient and HUNTER he is awesome he did his best to find us and deliver !!!! Thank you so much we are super appreciative ~ I will order again soon and refer your location and services !!!!! Hunter will you be delivering again ? 😆
By far the best place for a drink and a great meal. Amazing Mexican food, the incredible burritos are to die for I love the shrimp burritos, if you was to be adventurous choose the Endiablada style but just FYI its real hot so I choose the non endiablada version. Make sure you go the back bar its the best part of the location. Make sure you take full advantage of the sauce bar after you order.
Huge selection of tacos. 5 kinds of salsa. I had the Cali burrito and my wife had the fish taco, salmon taco and pastor taco. They were good not great. Burrito had more fries than meat. We came a year ago and thought it was amazing. Tons of drinks available and nice little fountain drink selection.
I was in the back of grubbys the other day and met the bartender mike stone. I gotta say he is now my favorite bartender there. Good guy, personable, and knows his drinks. He wore his mask the whole time and was respectful of space. It was refreshing to see a bartender practicing such safe precautions while still making me feel comfortable and safe. I will def make it a point to visit this place again and get a politely buzzed with him as my bartender.
The place is hip and cool. The decor is amazing, there is a bar in the back area. The food is amazing, they also have a variety of IPA beers. The location a bit small, parking in the back is limited so beware. But still a very nice place to hang out and order some delicious food, so bring friends or meet new friends, enjoy!
Marginal at best. Ive had better Mexican food from a roach coach. Drinks were weak and not very carefully made. Entire staff takes the mask requirement like its a joke and an inconvenience. I just dont get why some people think this place is a worth a stop. Never again.
First time here and I was a little disappointed after seeing mostly good reviews. The food wasnt bad but the lack of certain ingredients was disappointing. Ordered nachos and a porko verde burrito. The nacho had a lack of cheese. Hardly any cheese will ruin nachos. Nachos had plenty of beans and guacamole but only a few sprinkles of cheese on top, wasnt even melted. The verde burrito had a lack of chili verde pork, burrito had mostly rice. By the time I got to the last quarter of burrito there was no more pork.
I have never been treated so rudely from a bartender. They should be taught how to treat customers. Im telling everyone I know about the way I was treated and telling them to never give them your service. Isnt bartendering about treating people like they are welcome and not sending them away for no reason. I was my insulted. I cocktail and have bartender. I know the ins and outside. Believe me they ate unprofessional! Never go there!
I have eaten here before and had a great experience. This visit the bartender was screwing around with the cook the whole time so ordering became a nightmare. Ordered a house Bloody Mary and she failed to mention they didn’t have any Worcestershire sauce, which made the drink inedible. She apologized and poured some vodka over ice with a splash of cranberry and offered that instead.Ordered chips with guacamole. Brought the chips out, forgot the guacamole until we inquired 15 minutes later...apologized again. The brought some really not good guacamole out for us.Ordered the taco platter...20 minutes later, no tacos...and we were one of 4 people in the place. Canceled the order closed the tab and just left.Simply can’t recommend this place no matter how hip it appears. Service was very poor, couldn’t keep track of orders and a bartender more interested in socializing that assisting customers. You’ve been warned, take your business elsewhere.
Second to none staff, hard to beat great food and, thank you for an awesome experience. Its difficult with places such as this to not want to keep returning. Glad to see youre keeping your head above water during these times that prove difficult to do so, thanks again for your pledge to excellence
Taco Tuesday makes Tuesday’s a welcoming part of the week. We had the Al Pastor and Chicharrones for between $1.5 - $2 a piece. The meat was coked flavorful and the tortilla was fresh. Each sauce in the condiments were unique. The spicy here is actually spicy. As someone whom regularly orders one level below max, this was on par. Come and enjoy your week day. I know we’ll be back.
Great service, great drinks, great food and an amazing staff.Doing their best to keep the public safe during our crazy year. While providing a fabulous environment to escape from our daily woes.Try their pork bell tacos for something out of this world.Dont forget to ask for the sauces tho.
Outstanding Service! Came here for a little date night, ordered at the front, sat at the patio. The guy working the front recommended the new Razo Dazzle, it was so good! The guy working the patio/tables in the back was super on it and helped us get seated asap. The bar tenders made delish margaritas. From beginning to end it was a great experience. During covid with all the new hoops they have to jump through, Senior Grubby’s is the place to go!
This place has been delicious both times I have been to it. We stopped both times after a day at Legoland California. Downtown Carlsbad is nice. The food and vibe of this place is cool. The have a heated outdoor patio bar if that is your thing. The food is very tasty. The salsas are really good too. I had the Carlsbad Burrito as a combo it is a California Burrito but with Al Pastor instead of Carne Asada. So it has fries in it too. Its big and I ate about half since I ate my side of chips too. They make awesome criss-cross French fries which they used in the burrito . They make their tortilla chips too. My wife had tacos. My kid had a kids mean bean & cheese burrito. We will be back soon.
The food was just ok, I didnt care for the service and the tables arent clean so be prepared to ask for someone to clean them. I sat in the front but entered through the back. The back looked more fun and I probably should have sat back there The service up front wasnt great, you pretty much have to serve yourself. The parking lot is incredibly small so if you have a big car, beware. It seems like a good little hole in the wall for locals but not really my style, especially since Im a stickler for good service. I do not recommend it if youre in the area. Sorry
I really want to like this place, but it’s just so mediocre. The taco Tuesday deals are great, but for being a taco shop the tacos seem to always be thoroughly underwhelming. The beer battered fish and grilled is decent, albeit in need of a bit more flavor, the carnitas at the oside location is fantastic, but the al pastor is a let down. Nothing is more disappointing than a giant beautiful trompo of very nicely marinated pork only to have the taquero lob off giant hunks of meat. If you’re going to go thru the trouble of putting a trompo together the right way, get a sharp blade and see it through. It should be shaved so you get that thin, melt in your mouth slice of roasted pork. And don’t even get me started on the one giant piece of diced pineapple that was put on the tacos. Well-done tacos should have that perfect balance of flavors and textures in every bite. There’s nothing wrong with putting your own spin on traditions... if you move the dish in the right direction.
Reviews at this spot were hit and miss, but overall I thought it was A-OK. On the second morning of our stay in Carlsbad, we found ourselves yet again craving breakfast burritos. Senor Grubbys wasnt too far from the hotel we were at, so I figured why not?!When I showed up, I was greeted to find they were out of several different kinds of meat which was a bummer being first thing in the morning, but on the plus side that did open up other items on their regular menu to compensate. Ended up going with the pork verde breakfast burrito and the surf and turf burrito. Pork verde was okay, basically just a carnitas breakfast burrito. Personally, I thought it was kind of bland, but at least it did get me full and was a good size. In addition, the Surf and turf was a tad bit too spicy for comfort and also on the expensive side being probably close to $15 after taxes. All around Ill say their price point is much higher than I would expect (maybe Ive just been away from CA for too long) but I think all around it was just okay. If I had to do it over, probably wouldve gone to that same hole in the wall taco shop off Pacific Coast Highway for breakfast burritos.Anyhow, til next time.
We had the tacos al pastor and tacos de chicharrón. YIKES! The al pastor meat was dry and burnt. Why the tacos were prepared and served is beyond me. The chicharrón tacos were simply a piece of hard pork skin that were awful - any local Mexican market sells them out of a bag with more flavor.Any roach coach truck serves better food than Señor Grubbys. Will not be returning.
The staff is super legit, the salsa bar is always on point, quality tortillas and meats, and a perfect balance of ingredients in each burrito. You deff pay a little more but you get what you pay for. You can tell the difference in quality from the tortilla to the meat to the salsa.
Nobody has a better (or hotter) hot salsa than Senor Grubbys, and they have several, all of which are awesome! Medium and mild also available for those tastes (and I hear theyre good too). Delicious food to put it on, too. A carrots and peppers bowl is always full at the salsa bar. A happy place. Great outdoor art wall too, gets repainted several times a year by local artists.

I got 3 tacos and a side I went with fries the Carlsbad location has shoe string fries and the Oceanside location has seasoned fries. I got a salmon taco, birra taco and shrimp. Good portions of meat in the tacos. Flavor was ok.

2021-09-29Good food, friendly staff, and an overall great experience. I was pretty surprised with how quickly everything came out. The happy hour Margheritas were a little salty but but it wasnt enough to bump it down a star.

2022-05-19Amazing food, great location, great service. Had dinner here tonight and had to leave early because my baby decided to pop off but during our time there, everyone was so kind and understanding of the situation at hand (tantrums). The food was amazing, even 39 minutes later after driving home. They have tons of salsa to choose from. We sat inside but the patio seemed super cool and inviting too! The employees were super sweet to my baby and let him walk around since the area we were in was pretty empty. Portions of food were huge. The kids burrito came with fries and the burrito itself was like the size of my baby’s torso, which was nice since it was $11. Since I’m not from here i just figured it was an overpriced kids meal since everything here is more expensive but when we got it, i quickly realized you got every dollars worth of food. It was huge! We still have some left lol it could feed an adult. Great value, great food, great staff, great environment and great energy and music. They even had my baby dancing. Another perk, the women’s restroom had a changing table. The ultimate convenience!!!!

2022-07-18I didnt want hot so the cashier suggested the garlic shrimp, so I ordered it burrito style and it was the best shrimp burrito Ive ever had! The queso was also SO good! The million dollar margarita, well... not really worth $20. Hoping the Cadillac is better. Overall still a star though. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

2021-06-02Flew into Cali this morning from Philadelphia and driving down the PCH and wanted Mexican food so bad, looked up all the places and there was just something about this place that grabbed my attention! The staff is so friendly! The Bartender Paco was awesome! He made some awesome drinks I’ve never had before! Would totally recommend!
