I bought a $200 piano and none of the salespeople told me it also needed a power plug sold separately. I was very frustrated cause I live 40 minutes away and then I come again and this is what I see on the door the second time. They closed and a lot of customers were outside upset cause no one knew they would be closed
This place is horrible, I placed an order over the phone they charged my card. Told me I was going to receive an email confirmation shortly, waited for 7 hours. Then called to check on the order to find out is not even in stock and there was a error. And the manager is like what do you want me to do ? Well, we all need you to the job you get paid for and update your inventory. Seriously stop wasting peoples time. Save yourself some disappointment and some time and buy your gear at serous business somewhere else where that actually value you as client.
Came here to see their trumpet section. They had 5 very entry level horns, and as a beginner looking to upgrade they had a singular very old used Bach. 2 of the pearls on the valves were litteraly missing and one was replace with a button! A shirt button! Cannot believe they would ever even think of selling this horn. Walked in and walked out. Terrible.
Called this place twice today from a Guitar Center. (Talked to Kevin both times.) The same keyboard/bag that wouldve taken weeks to arrive at Guitar Center can be shipped to Sam Ash in two days. Also, their protection plan (really just an extension of the manufacturers warranty,) is much more reasonably priced than Guitar Centers. It was a no-brainer.If youre planning on going to Guitar Center, do yourself a favor and go here first.Great customer service, great layout. Also they sell tons of sheet music books. This is my new favorite place for music shopping.
Went in to the San Diego store to buy a new set of tubes for my VOX AC10 and was helped by Daniel in guitars. I wasnt exactly sure what tubes I needed but Daniel quickly looked it up and found two 12AX7s in stock and the two EL84s ordered to ship directly to my house for free! Daniel also got me a price match as what I found online was priced lower than what was in the store. Thanks for you time and extra effort Daniel! You rock bro!!!
The level of service at this Sam Ash is amazing. I have been to this location many times over the past few years and have never left disappointed . Due to the situation going on in the world right now, the store was closed for a while, and while it was closed, my service contact expired. Most places would have stood behind the legalese of the contract and would have said that I was out of luck. Not Sam Ash!! Once the service department reopened I was able to take my guitar in and get one last setup under the expired contract and they got it done in record time. I go to this shop for all of my musical instrument needs because they will not let you down. They have everything you need including new and used instruments, repair, audio/pa, and lessons (once its safe for in person learning). I wish I could give this place 10 stars.
So I went in, bored with the intention of just looking. I decided to ask some question because I am bit particular about sizing and things. I was helped by Diego, who subsequently spent three ish hours assisting me when I decided to pick up a kit. He worked with me all the way, and ensured me that if I wasnt satisfied, they would honor their return policy. I have been buying musical equipment for a long time, and I love Guitar Center as much as the next dude (this was my first time in a Sam Ash) but I have never been helped or treated better than I was today.
Professional, knowledgeable, and personable! Every member of the staff worked TOGETHER to ensure i received accurate information and the best product to fulfill my needs. There was no BS! They had no problem saying, I dont know, but let me get the staff member who does know!.The staff had no problem sharing their professional opinions and experiences. I asked about a particular product. They responded professionally, telling me, I am not a big fan of that product and here is why! I very much appreciated the honesty. The staff took the time to understand my goals and find product to match. They made it clear that they wished to obtain my business and my loyalty!I bought my first drum set in 1967 from the original Sam Ash location in New York City. They provided a great experience then and continue to this day. THANK YOU!
Sam Ash Music is an incredible music store. They have everything you could ever need and for me, it was an amazing experience shopping for my new performance keyboard and all the accessories and equipment to go with it. Alex, the keyboard department manager, spent time helping me get exactly what I needed. He was patient and helpful when I wanted to listen to every speaker they had in the store and he answered all my questions with ease. Even the store manager came over to make sure I was happy. I love that store and anytime I ever need anything for my music, I will be going to Sam Ash.
We had a great experience! My wife and I were shopping for a beginner piano for our daughters. The gentleman who helped us was very professional, and when our questions got too specific to the piano, he brought in another employee who actually plays the piano. Both guys were attentive and genuinely interested in making sure we made a smart purchase. We walked out with a piano, stand, and a bench, and are very happy with the whole process. Great customer service Sam Ash! We will be back.
I needed something to record a concert as my old hd recorder died. They were very helpful in helping me find a mixer that had a usb connection. It was a great solution and one I hadn’t thought of. The staff was knowledgeable and didn’t try to pressure me into buying something I didn’t need.I had a similar good experience before when buying a Ukulele. It was used, but in great shape and at a good price. I had gone in expecting to pay $1k for a Uke and ended up spending $300. So glad I didn’t just buy online, sight unseen.
The service is what keeps bringing me back! I needed an acoustic guitar for my quiver and Jeff Baumgart, as always, was happy to let me explore the fantastic collection of guitars. The shopping experience is laid back and safe. Never any pressure to buy! Finding the right guitar takes time. I like Jeff because he understands guitars and provides knowledgeable input and suggestions. I’ve known Jeff for years so I trust his expertise. I’ve bought 4 guitars and almost all of my pedals from Jeff! When it was time to come back and make my purchase, Jake was on shift to help wrap up the whole purchase process. He knows the inventory so when I told him what I was looking for, he handed me a beautiful Taylor GS Mini KOA-e. It was already set up and perfectly tuned for me. Now I have another lovely guitar to enjoy for years!Thank you Jeff and Jake for always being there.
I love this store. It has such a great mix of rock and classical instruments. I play several different instruments and theres always somebody in that store that knows something about whichever one Im asking about. Ive never had a bad customer service experience here---if a salesperson doesnt know something (they each specialize in different instruments after all), they immediately go find the answer. I wish they had a location that was closer to me--Im not crazy about the plaza that theyre in, but Ill drive out to them just because I know that chances are good Ill be able to get what I need to do done, and have a good experience on top of it.
Today i give five STARS. this was my second time to this store i mostly go to the guitar center this store is closer. my visit as before was awesome the prices were competitive for what i was looking for. the sales people are friendly and knowledgeable . i recommend the store and will visit again.11-16-19 needed a cable for guitar another 5 star from me. Oh yes will be at the Sam Ash bash hope i win a nice dor price like a midi-keyboard or the guitar see you all there
I have been searching for the right Taylor guitar for several years and found her at Sam Ash. My red, 214 CE Deluxe Grand Auditorium is perfect. The store itself is amazing with an incredible selection of instruments and outstanding customer service. Dennis, the young man who assisted me, was patient and friendly and extremely helpful. I even remarked to him that Sam Ash is better than Guitar Center. I have found a new home for my musical needs.
I purchased a guitar from Sam Ash right as California was sheltering in. They were unable to ship the guitar, so someone from the shop sent an email stating it would take a while before the guitar was shipped and asked if I wanted to wait or get a refund.Wow. Great customer service!
I had some major work done to my 2004 Epiphone SG. The Luthier, Steve, installed a graphite nut, new humbuckers and a push pull coil tap as well as a complete set up. The work was outstanding so rather than purchase a new guitar, Im keeping the 2004 as it is now better than new. Steve oiled the neck, sanded and polished the frets and adjusted the string height and intonation to perfect sound and action. Plays and sounds like a much more expensive guitar and having six distinct sound rather than three is awesome. In addition, turn around time was fast: dropped off on Thursday and picked up on Saturday. I highly recommend Steve for all your set ups and repairs. Thanks Steve!
As a keyboard player, I tend to buy more keyboards than what I need.Well, I finally have found a Digital Audio Workstation that does everything I need from beginning to end.2 things happened during that moment.1. I’m looking at some gear that I have that I don’t need anymore.2. I now want to get the midi controller that goes with my DAW.I was able to trade my used gear in, and get the midi controller I wanted by only paying roughly $20.00.Customer service and management was great, and my midi controller will ship directly to my house because it was out of stock.Thank you,
Reasonable trade in price on my Pioneer DJ controllers, and a great rap session with knowledgeable and wonderfully sarcastic, manager. This was my first time in one of the mythical Sam Ash stores and it was just as awesome as I thought it would be! This place is a jewel and I WILL be back!
It’s great seeing the store that has been well stocked and I’m not able to get out much with the current setting healthwise but I sure enjoyed getting what I needed and knowing it would be there as a guitar player! It must be really tough right now keeping the doors open so all my best to you at Sam Ash
Extremely helpful and informative pro audio staff. Took the time to listen carefully and then proceeded to show me the location of the specific speaker cables and speak-on adapters i was looking for and then looked at inventory not on display just to provide me with different pricing options. I ended up about 1 dollar short and the employ covered the remaining balance personally out of pocket. Ill be headed straight back to this location for all my audio needs.
Jeff B. in the San Diego store is an outstanding salesman! He is extremely knowledgeable about all the guitars and gear and is patient with all my questions. He provides outstanding customer service and has made each of my experiences pleasant and positive - I am always comfortable with the purchases (large or small) as I know I am getting the best value possible!
The clerks were happy to make educated suggestions once I told them about my project, got me the guitar I needed. I also purchased a set-up which sounds great. When my guitar processor died of old age, I was shown several solutions - in amp as well as stand alone units.Ive been in rhe store only three times and am being treated as a steady customer... That says a lot.
I love stopping by Sam Ash any time Im looking to pick up some solid Audio tools for my video creations. I dont stop by often because every time I do I spend a pretty penny haha. With that said I always am given great customer support from the friendly staff. Its always great to be able to tell them exactly what Im looking for with the projects I work on and given great advice on what I should consider picking up. Overall I walk in with a smile and out with a even bigger one every time I come here.
Well i got scammed out of $1500 when i ordered the Adam a7x bundle. Only the Subwoofer was in the box, i waited months to open the box for a new studio so i guess its my fault but I contacted Nick Palumbo who helped me order it and i guess he does not work there anymore because i cant contact him at all. Also currently scammed me out of a regent guitar case that was supposedly arriving early May. Speechless, what did i do to you? Nobody has contacted me for anything
My first time to Sam Ash Music Store and Travis was outstanding. I walked in and he greeted me right away. Definitely made me feel comfortable. Travis was very informative and took his time to explain the difference between each product. Listen to what I needed and what would be suitable for me. Definitely will come back again and would recommend this place. The staff and the service is amazing!!! Thank you again!!!
Fist time to Sam ash music store and I was impressed with the great selection of equipment. Heather was great and made me feel welcome. Its amazing how many music stores I have been to where I feel like the employees dont have the passion for what they are selling. This is either an expensive hobby or a career for people. Regardless which category you fall under store variety and great customer service should always be accpected. I like heather, she is a musician and loves what she does. I will be back for sure even though I live an hour away. Two thumbs up for the Sam ash crew and location.
I never do reviews, but I thought my experience at this Sam Ash location deserved one. I was looking to buy a new guitar so I could get back into playing. (I hadnt played in years)I usually get an okay experience at best when shopping retail, but Junior was able to give me customer service worth talking about. He was friendly, didnt try to up sell me, and was ultimately just genuinely try to help me.Really happy with my experience here. I ended up exchanging the first guitar I initially bought for a model that better suit my needs. They returned the first guitar with no questions ask and even price matched Guitar Center for the model I wanted to exchange it for. No brainer 5 star review. Ill come back here for my future musical needs.
Always the best experience ! Since the College Grove location opened up, I have bought several used guitars (82 Les Paul, Music Man Bass, Telecaster, Gibson SG), all in great condition and at a great price. The staff is very up beat and willing to help, more like a normal store than Guitar Center, which is more like the NAMM show. I always send my students and clients there rather and have never heard of a bad experience from them.
As soon as I walked into the store, I heard a string break. If that wasnt weird enough, I then thought to myself where are all the tuners? Is everything okay?.The saxophones are all nestled neatly in the back room; brass, brushed nickel, mahogany sunset. The parking lot can see.Is it Christmas? Or am I just cold outside? Regardless, shredding thru the guitar section was where the brother of the owner must be making his living cuz theres a family vibe. In all seriousness though, Im pretty sure he lives there. The brother. In that section. All in all, Im definitely getting my money back and will be returning to this wonderful shop again in the future, with all my family and friends, too. Thank Sam Ashes!
Great experience if youre interested in guitars! Ive been to a few Guitar Centers and theres nothing wrong with them, but Sam Ash really knocks it out of the park. I went in to browse through some acoustics and Alex was very helpful and pointed out some guitars to me that I would have never considered trying before. He gave me his honest opinion about the options, and because of that, I wound up walking out with an amazing guitar (with a case included) within my desired price range. The store is organized and clean and the selection of guitars is really good. Their acoustic room is also quite large. Overall great store, products, and customer service!
The Sam Ash in San Diego is light years ahead of any Guitar Center I’ve ever gone to in regards to customer service. After multiple HORRIBLE experiences with the Guitar Center in La Mesa I swore I’d never go back. Sam Ash was where I took my business. As a producer/performer and musician I have unique purchase needs and require specific information. When I’m dropping a lot of money on a purchase it’s awsome to have a staff of salespeople that aren’t pushy, yet knowledgeable and direct. Wess and the pro audio staff are all great. My only criticism is that they do not carry a huge stock in store, even for highly in demand items, so you end up having to wait for them to ship. Kinda blows to wait over a week for new toys when you spend a couple grand, but worth the sacrifice for the customer service.
First time I went into Sam Ash I met Rudy, he helped me with getting my guitar appointment set up, quick and easy. He let me try out any guitar i was interested in as well, he was very nice and professional. When i went in to later pick up my guitar i met Franky, who was also a great and easy going guy who helped fnish up my transaction smoothly. My guitar is set up great and i couldnt be happier!
Our two kids have been taking drum and piano lessons here for 4 months now and we LOVE the experience we are all having. Every staff member is helpful, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Albert and Beverly have been wonderful teachers that are positive and encouraging while providing meaningful instruction to our boys. I really cant say enough about how great this place is and how much they foster a love for music.
This place. Seriously, the customer service here is fantastic. Unlike most guitar/music store, the focus isn’t about selling, it’s about ensuring you get the product that you are looking for. I ordered a DiMarzio strap online and had it sent to the store. Well when it arrived, I received a phone call that the strap was dirty and that they had already ordered a replacement strap for me if I wanted it. Fantastic. The dudes in the guitar department have helped me decide on new pickups for my bass and even price matched what they were going for as a complete set, even though I purchased them separately. I will be coming back to this store for the rest of my life, I can guarantee you that. Thanks for everything guys.
Have had a couple really cool experiences trading in gear (I know, I know... Impossible, right!?!?) at the San Diego store. Musicians have every right to be extremely leery of music store sales people, but it works both ways. Think of how many people that they deal with that come in with a pre-existing chip on their shoulder, only to have to tell those same cheery individuals that their completely unrealistic expectations arent gonna be met. Cant be fun to have to tell an All-star status ignorant adult that youre not going to give them $600 for their rusty, 10 year old entry level PDP snare. The best thing that a musician can do, is educate themselves on the likely mathematics of the situation BEFORE they go into the store. Just remember, if you can walk with 60% or more of what theyll intend to sell it for....YOU DONE GOOD, YO. Thankfully, both snare drums that Ive traded in were valuable, & truly in Mint condition. Makes things much easier all the way around. Brian D. was the sales person that I dealt with, & not only was he not an A-hole, but on 2 separate occasions he gave me fair & respectful offers RIGHT OFF OF THE BAT. Hadnt had an experience with a sales associate that quickly before, & it was refreshing to say the least. Dude is good at his job, & if you bring in valuable gear thats also in great condition, youre probably gonna get a really fair offer. Ill be rolling back to deal with Brian should I get the itch to sell anything else.
Rodolfo helped us find the perfect drum set for our grandson. He was very knowledgeable and explained how the best way to get a complete set worked. We bought a Ludwig set of drums from him which he helped us load in our car. Great customer service and we highly recommend him. Thanks for your help adolfo!
I was shopping for a new amp and played a few in the store. But the one that caught my attention was the EVH 5150 iii Stealth. I plugged in and loved it. The sales person signed me up for a CC as well. Said they didnt have the amp in stock and had to order it and they would call me and let me know when to come in and pick it up. Simple in-store pickup. A week goes by and I call the store to find out the status and they didnt and asked me to call back in a few days. Then I begin getting a FEDEX text saying my delivery was made and signed off.....at my OLD Address!!!! I called the store and immediately began working with the Store Manager named Brett. He was empathetic to the situation and clearly upset as well, assured me that my new line of credit wont be hindered by the mishap and promised to get either the amp I ordered or another amp from Fender when they had them in stock. We kept in correspondence over what seemed like a long weekend. no luck with obtaining the Amp from the wrong address. Then monday comes and Im driving home beginning to think about maybe getting a different amp, I am rocking out and had a missed call from Sam Ash. It was a message from Brett and he was excited to tell me that they obtained the Amp and had it in the store. I immediately went and picked it up and met Brett as well. He definitely helped make my experience with Sam Ash a great one and this case, I am currently in love with my new amp!! now its time to get some cool effects pedals with Sam Ash. Thank you for restoring my trust and helping me get the sound I am looking for my band.-Cheers,Steve
Perfect place, store gear is cleaning and prices are guaranteed lower if not price matching is available.Heather and Jeff are the coolest staff members there, got some nice gear from them. They always recommend the coolest guitar gear that meets my music needs. Whether its new or vintage gear. This place is much better than Guitarcenter. Especially their open Mic Wednesdays, bring your band and rock!!
Worked with Keith in the percussion department and he spent at least an hour chasing down parts and solving issues to ensure I got what I needed in a timely manner. Very knowledgeable, patient and gave great advice to a newbie starting out. Definitely will be coming back!
Love the San Diego Sam Ash. From Jeff Baumgart in guitar department to Nick in repair, this store is the ONLY store that I go to. What is nice about Sam Ash versus the other major chain center is at Sam Ash, If I want to feel what it’s like to play a $6,000 Les Paul it’s no big deal where as the other center-forget it, it’s all under lock and key. I honestly go to Sam Ash just to hang out and chat with the guys. Alex the store manager is running a great store! Thank you!! Lol oh yeah, they have great deals too!! It’s not only great people!!
Several friends and family members have purchased equipment from Sam Ash and my two children have just started taking piano lessons from Colin. It is always fun going in and my kids have a great time checking out all the instruments. Ive been to other music stores where the employees were condesending and pretentious - not here! All the people I have encountered are friendly and very helpful.
Jason Goldin and Keith Best are awesome guys! Sam Ash is very choosy on who they bring in as employees and it translates into their teams genuine concern for the customer. All of the employees are excellent!Entering a Sam Ash store is better than going to Disneyland. They interact with you, they allow kids to try out instruments (even the expensive models on the floor), and they make the buying process super easy.We dont ever feel like we are strangers at Sam Ash. We never get the impression that we are troubling the staff when we have questions. We have become lifelong customers. And as our children grow and become parents of their own children, Im positive that Sam Ash (better than Disneyland) Music Stores will be their first choice.
I am a guitar player that wanted to purchase a professional digital piano with acoustic piano type action.J Goldin and staff at the Lemon Grove store provided me with a multitude of choices and went beyond just a sale, they really listened to my requirements and gave me a very competitive deal. Sam Ash Lemon Grove (San Diego) has the small town friendly music store feel to it thatis just right! I look forward to doing more business with them in the future.Good Folks..
Forget about Guitar Center, and everything else, this place is awesome. bass I picked up was prefect, didnt need a setup, ready to play unlike Guitar Center where I purchased a bass, neck buzzing, needed a setup and they didnt want to pay for it. staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend
I just walked out with an incredible cymbal and a big smile on my face thanks to Kevin Smith, drum department manager at the San Diego location. Drummers, don’t hesitate to ask for him, no purchase too small (let’s get his commission through the roof!) His down-to-earth vibe and relatability as a drummer is second to none and I can assure you, you’ll get that personalized, small town drum shop care when dealing with him. Thanks, Kev!
Sam Ash had the guitar I was looking for at a price well below other retailers. I was looking at a guitar that sells for $950+ and they got me a used one in near mint condition for $500 less! I have always been satisfied with my the Cincinnati store and the guys in San Diego were great too. Just use them so you will get a square deal without the shady characters.
Great prices AND people!!!! I have purchased several guitars and amps here, and each one was a killer deal! Jeff Baumgart has been a fixture on the music store scene since I was a child. Great person to work with when looking to spend your hard earned money. I don’t like to go to the big stores very often, but Sam Ash is family owned and it feels that way too. Just so you know, I have purchased some very top end guitars 58 historic l.p., 52 relic Tele, just to name a couple. Each was such a great deal I couldn’t pass them up!
Simply the best customer service youll find in any store that sells any type of merch let alone extremely high quality instruments. The entire gang at Sam Ash San Diego is top notch! From Jake who introduced me to and got me interested in a new Taylor 814CE DLX, to Brett who worked out a killer deal, to Jason (Jay) the store manager who calmly, carefully, and generously walked me through reasons why and totally fixed an issue I had with the strings on my new guitar, to Alex whos truss rod magic made what was a great sounding instrument even better. If youre looking for an instrument, new or used, with or without trade, highly recommend that you ditch all other stores in favor of a visit to the team at Sam Ash San Diego. The best!!
Very impressed with the store itself, and especially the expertise and kindness of the staff! Travis went so far above and beyond to help me!I was shopping for some big upgrades for my home recording studio and wanted to see some things in person (especially keyboards) before (most likely) purchasing them online ;) However, the prices in the store were at least as good as online (and they match) - in one case, lower, because of a sale - but more importantly, the customer service won me over. I will definitely be back!Even though I had some idea of what I was planning to purchase, it helped tremendously to have someone who knows what theyre doing go over things with me, draw up various package options, and remind me of things I mightve forgotten (like a microphone cable ;))!It took me about 6 hours to decide on what I was getting that day, and Travis spent a good portion of that time assisting me. In addition to his advice/knowledge, I am so impressed by his patience! Thank you!!Im so glad I shopped at Sam Ash for my purchases, and very grateful to have had Travis helping me!
I just called this location with a question regarding my bridge being slightly lifted and some concerns I had customizing a guitar I’m basically keeping for memory sake. I called from South Carolina because I’m limited on late night specialists who can communicate in guitar after 5pm on a school night! The dude that helped me was super awesome; extremely professional, polite and easy to talk to about my specific issue. I’d spoken with other people regarding the same issue just to put some feelers out and see what other musicians would do if in my situation. I really appreciate all of the help, you really put my mind at ease. Thank you for outstanding service! ✌️
Adrian in pro audio was especially helpful and knowledgable when I was trying to figure out what to purchase to fix a sound problem. Then later when I had a problem setting up and Adrian was gone Kevin in Drums knew just what to do with this audio equipment. I love that the people of different departments have cross knowledge. Very helpful!
Every time I go to Sam ash they are super nice. This time I spent my time with the new guitar tech Patrick. We spent some time talking on the phone and in person before I dropped my guitar off to be worked on. Had some grounding issues, needed a new nut and a good set up. 2 days later, boom. New string , new nut., grounding issue fixed and pro set up done. Feels great and sounds better then ever. I would recommend Patrick for sure. After picking it up I had some time to kill so i got some cables and noticed one of the guys that works there playing a hollow body just for fun. He noticed me watching and asked if I wanted to play it. Now Im a big fan of hollow body guitars . All in all, they are WAY better then guitar center and have a super nice staff. GC seems to give you a stink eye when I ask them to play something nice . Like a PRS. Not Sam Ash. I played custom 22 there one day and one of the guys that works there grabbed a guitar and we started jamming from across the store. Even one of the guys in the bass section joined in. It was pretty epic. Sam Ash all the way.
Waited about 20mins for someone to help me. Pretty much was because nothing is running the way it should since this darn covid began, but Kevin is totally knowledgeable in drums and pro audio equipment. Im a professional musician he and NEVER has the condescending attitude that I often encounter in music stores. Weather you know it all or absolutely nothing Kevin is gonna help you get exactly what you need for your set up. The other guys are ok too but I wish they were all as helpful as him
Great customer service very friendly and very knowledgeable employees. I bought several speakers from Sam Ash one of the speakers had a problem with the sound ,I returned it and got something else and they took care of me right away with no issues . I would highly recommend to get your music equipment from Sam Ash
Well I was in your store the other day just there to simply purchase some drum sticks and misc. items as well. But however you have employees that not to knowledgeable about drum and it assessories. On the other hand your store dont sell bundles packs of drum sticks like Guitar Center dose. You only sale individual and yoi charge to much for one pair. Need to re evaluate your cost and prices.
I love Sam Ash. Every single time I come to the store I am warmly greeted, receive personal assistance and excellent recommendations. For example, yesterday I needed help in replacing all of my drumheads, and after describing what I wanted to achieve, one of the agents hand selected each drumhead for me, asking many questions to ensure he helped me achieve my goal. Thank-a-Palooza is also an incredible event.
Sam Ash is the way to go. One of the managers, Brian Disney, is above and beyond helpful and knowledgeable! He really goes the extra mile to figure out the best solution for me, and that keeps me coming back. Thanks for making it so easy, and fun, to get the gear I need!
Sam Ash is the best! The staff is always knowledgeable, kind and respectful of a musicians tastes and needs unlike the other big store in town whose name I wont mention, and whose staff is always rude, condescending, and Never knowledgable about the products they sell. Im so happy I dont have to drive so far to get great service from Sam Ash because now theyre here!!! Sam Ash is hands down the best!
Awesome! I visited the San Diego store and the staff was very helpful and had everything I needed. They were very friendly and professional and knew their product. Also, the store was very well kept and organized and presentable which makes for a very pleasant visit and buying experience. I highly recommend Sam Ash, you wont be disappointed.
Being in this place was like covering yourself in a warm fuzzy blanket: everybody’s helpful and knowledgeable and is attentive to make sure you have everything you need, while not being overbearing or trying too hard to sell you something you’d never probably buy. and above all the two employees who helped me were incredibly beginner friendly. I went in knowing almost nothing about guitars and came out with a little extra knowledge. What stood out to me most was the feeling that I wasn’t forgotten or cast aside. The two people who assisted me (Frankie and Heather) took their time giving me suggestions for guitars and explaining their answers to my all my little questions and checked up on me occasionally to see if i was doing alright. Honestly I don’t think i’ve ever experienced customer service at this level before and I will most likely come back for more gear, supplies, and advice even after purchasing my guitar and amp. This place is a must see.
I have purchased music instruments and supplies both online and by visiting a physical store. The online purchases have been great, store visits to purchase instruments is a bit frustrating. Stock is aparently limited to what is on display, which means you are buying a used instrument instead of a shiny new one out of the box. The instrument I recently purchased had a slight ding and the store manager allowed a slight discount. I will probably not purchase much from the store in the future other than strings. The instruments I have purchased online have been great.
Went there today at 7pm. Got no kinds of greeting and no kinds of customer service. I wanted to buy a mixer but didnt get any help from sales person on the floor. I see the employee and I know they saw me too. Oh well no more comments about this store at this location. Will the last time I shop there after tonight. Until their customer service skills got better.
I usually don’t take time to leave reviews places but I just really want everyone to know there’s a younger guy named John in drums who really knows his stuff. As a professional drummer, I usually get to deal with guitar guys who know nothing about the instruments, but I was pleasantly surprised by his product knowledge and that -yes- he’s actually a drummer himself. Couldn’t be happier.
WOW! Totally undxpected great experience. Ive seen Sam Ash online for years. Never knew they had a storefront until visiting San Diego. I went in with low expectation and with no intentions other than looking. Upon entry, warmly greated by someone with a smile at the front desk. 3 min after walking to the first wall of guitars, asked by someone else if I need help. Told him no, but thanks and continued looking. Great selection. I was surprised. Better than guitar center and a bit larger. Pulled an axe off the wall. Staff pointed me to a cord and as I plugged into a marshall DSL-100 he suggested I also try a 2nd amp when finished as he was really impressed by this other amp when it came in. Finally someone who knows gear and shows enthusiasm like me! I ended up walking out with a new guitar. No pressure from staff, felt like I was hanging out with friends, no huge crowd like GC, whats not to like. I wish this place was in my neighborhood in northern CA. Way to go guys - you Rock. Shout out to Rudy who helped me and the 2nd guy who rang up the transaction - sorry cant recall his name but he was super cool too.
I love Sam ash because of the employees. Always greeted by each and everyone wearing a Sam ash shirt. Very knowledgeable. But most of all they remember my name. I was helped by an employee by the name of Geneve very at the college Grove store. She did not carry what I was after, but she researched the product without Mt asking, called me at home and pointed me in the right direction. When I saw her again in the store,at least 4 to 5 months later, she remembered my name. All other things being equal-and they are, That is what makes you want to spend your money at a place. Im a steady customer. 5 stars.
If you’re a person of African decent don’t waste your time going here! I was highly disappointed w/ the lack of customer service I received on July 16th last night. The store was FAR FROM BUSY! And I received far below the expectation of standard customer service. I ended up buying online because the guy kept me waiting for 30mintues while he did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT THE COUNTER HE WAS AT! And when I finally went back up to him because he was taking forever he said OH, OH let me check on that, well what were you doing this entire time while I watched you, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! So sad! That will be my last In store visit :( ! Really nice stuff, horrible staff
I asked ahead of time to put my Strymon Timeline delay on hold. It is a popular item and was worried that it would not be available. They not only put it on hold but showed me more Strymon pedals with no pressure to buy The sales person gave me some interesting insight on each pedal. Went away with my Strymon Timeline with dreams of buying more pedals , (especially Mobius and Big Sky), that i will definitely buy at this store. Great experience with a laid back and informative sales person.
The Sam Ash in La Mesa is AMAZING. Sooooo much better than guitar center. I havent met a single employee who I didnt connect with personally. They are all there to help you with your unique needs and have given me a ton of awesome advice and great direction when buying gear. Many times now I have taken thay advice and it has served me greatly. Shout out to everyone who works there if you read this. This Raef, the guy who bought the Avalons!
As someone new coming into the music world having last touched an instrument 30 years back my experience has been great. The staff has been helpful and courteous each time I have been there. They have made sure that just because I wasnt dropping thousands that I felt no less important than others coming in that were.
Alex was from the guitar department but I needed help in the pro audio department. No one was available there so he worked real hard to help me out. He did his best until we got someone that could help with expert advice. The advice was perfect and Alex and I learned a lot together. Awesome experience. Thanks guys.
No prices on items without asking. High end acoustics being scratched up by idiots with no customer assistance.I Asked questions about some gear, and the burn-out-stoner-wanna-be-rock-star employee just wandered off.Guitar Center is the worst music store on earth......I hope Sam Ash isn’t trying to emulate them ....smh.
Sam Ash in San Diego is just plain great. Their selection is larger, and more importantly, higher quality than GC. Im a drummer, and every time I go there they have what I want. Anybody looking for a new kit should definitely check them out, because the range and diversity of what they carry is sweet. Their inventory of used equipment is very interesting too. GC is much closer to where I live, but I will always drive a little farther to go to Sam Ash San Diego.
As always sam ash has the best prices and has the best inventory. I had in mind of a dj controller and came out with a whole different controller with better add ons and features and also left with a case for the controller something that the other competitor (GC) didnt have!!!
Im new to drumming, and I nervously came in to purchase things I knew nothing about but knew I needed. The guy in the drumming section was helpful, took the time to explain what I needed and why, and had a great sense of humor in the process. Thanks for making a slightly scary task a fun one!
I love Sam Ash Music! They have an amazing assortment of music instruments of every kind that cover a variety of price ranges and also many high quality used instruments. They have tons of music accessories, lots of sheet music to browse, and they have many knowledgable employees to help you out with questions about anything music.I was able to find a great used Fender acoustic bass, a baritone ukulele, a very nice cajon, and the perfect used midi for my purposes. And Ive puchased all kinds of accessories for acoustic and electronic instruments. It is so nice to actually hold and play instruments you are thinking of buying, and I think you would be hard pressed to find anything better for the price online.
I cannot say enough about the this location of Sam Ash!!!! I was provided incredible service by a young lady working in the band/wind instrument area, despite needing help with a drum purchase. She was patient, accommodating, generous, and flexible. I would ABSOLUTELY purchase from her (and from this store) again!!!I honestly feel like Sam Ash is the Target to G.C.s Walmart. And this location in particular is like the Nordstroms of the group!Cannot recommend this store enough!
Spacious, well stocked, includes in-store inventory of specific brand name guitars not found in the local competing national chain store. Sales Associate staff is well trained, genuinely helpful, and, as far as I could discern, are also working, performing musicians.
LUDWIG LEGACY MAHOGANY 5pc custom shell pack plus Black Beauty and hardware. Approx. $7000.Kevin could NOT have been more helpful, knowledgeable and patient. HE is the reason i made the purchase at SAM ASH over that other place GC or online.Dealing with Ludwig itself was long and arduous for us and he persevered thru the process. He also was very helpful in getting just the right drum hardware.I will only go thru Kevin in the future.
The most interesting thing happened at this location, I went in to buy a violin and also I had my Iceman IC250 guitar looked at. I was admiring the guitars and started talking to a gentleman next to me about old Ibanez guitars. He asked one of the gentleman to get one of the blue books out of the back regarding the value, I thought “what”, he said he saw one in there; we went through the pages as we talked about other guitars as well as from the 60 on up. Then it was time for me to go and look at the violins that I went in there for as I was saying goodbye he introduced himself as Sam. When buying the violin a nice Yamaha, I had found out that he is the owner. After meeting the owner of the company and everybody else at this location I will never buy from any other store due to the staff and pricing. Thank you all for coming to San Diego. PS I have purchased instruments in the past from other locations is why I walked into this location today because each location treat you just the same a valued customer. Thanks Alex for your help
Service in pro audio in 2016 I was given the best service ever by an employee that I think no longer works there... He was the very bestiss. I miss talking tomy daughter himis mstill in need of a daddy.. lemon Grove Rocks.. he was the very best in all departments..just saying..him . I still CANT stop thinking about him.. voidlines was his heavy metal band. My favorite song was Dear Family.. I wish
I went to the store to look at a guitar I had been viewing/lookin for on the internet that I had wanted for years. Sam Ash in San Diego, CA had the best price for the particular guitar anywhere in the country. I live on the East coast and was visiting my brother for Thanksgiving. I asked if he would take me to the store so I could look at and play the guitar. I walked in the store with my internet printout and asked if they still had the guitar. They did. the salespeople bent over backwards in assisting me to play the guitar. They asked me what amp I wanted to use. Since the guitar was a Gretsch George Harrison 1957 Duo Jet Tribute guitar I had to play Twist and Shout on a VOX AC30 amp. They had sold out of that amp so I used a fender similar to what the Beatles would have used when they did not have VOX amps. I had the volume low so as not to be obnoxious and the salesperson adjusted the amp volume and guitar knobs to crank it up to match the sound of the 1964 Beatles and even had some one drumming with a few others picking up a guitar and noodling along. Needless to say, after playing a few more songs, some Santanna, Allman Brothers, and John Lee Hookers Boom, Boom Boom Boom, I purchased the guitar. Since I lived on the East coast they offered to ship insured for free and threw in an extra set of srings of my choice when I asked. Now, That my friend is the very definition of CUSTOMER SERVICE and I am a very satisfied customer.
This is the only place I go for gear now. I used to spend a lot of time ay multiple shops asking opinions and researching. The staff at sam ash know right where to go or the answer to any question I have. Never been disappointed with their recommendations or felt I had spent more than I should for what I need.

2022-06-27We went to Sam Ashe as our first stop to find a good quality, used wind instrument. We found one that was in really good condition and at a great price. Our consultant ( Zack?) was polite, knowledgeable, no-pressure and professional. We appreciate the great quality of service and care we received. It is the consistency of exceptional experiences that keep us coming back to Sam Ashe!

2022-07-30I had never been into a Sam Ash music before but this store has been great from start to finish. Knowledgeable, helpful, non pushy employees. Matt and the other guitarist whose name I’m drawing a blank on are good guys and Steve, the luthier/tech is phenomenal. No kidding best I’ve ever dealt with. Down to earth and made my 7 strings so enjoyable to play. Company is lucky to have this guy.I haven’t strayed too much in the rest of the store but there’s a nice selection of everything and pricing/policies all appear competitive. Hate to name bash but GC isn’t gonna cut it anymore. Will definitely be back.

2022-06-28I’ve been to Sam Ash a couple times with a friend here and there but I personally never really bought much from there. I went in the other day hoping to get into a lil bit of busking (without a guitar) and Cody definitely gave me a lot of recs for mics, mic stands, and speakers. He definitely gave me some knowledge on mics too on which mic suits certain situations so that’s always dope to know. Shout outs to Cody!

2022-07-10Although the store was very busy, I was given the attention and time needed to choose, test, ask questions about and buy the instrument I was looking for. The Employees were also very knowledgeable about the products. I would certainly return to Sam Ash for anything I needed.

2022-07-11My husband and I went to another guitar store and no one there even spoke to us! (GC) We are here from Iowa and wanted to buy a less expensive guitar to practice with the 2 weeks we are here.Jake at Sam Ash spoke as soon as we walked in and helped us a long the way. He even suggested #TheCraftKitchen for lunch! The whole day was great!

2022-05-04Great selection of merchandise, well-organized, price-matching and helpful employees. Not a madhouse like the other big guitar store in San Diego. Knocking off a star because the store inventory search is broken; I used to be able to go to the locations website and check whats in stock, but the custom Google search no longer functions, even when using the pre-selected categories. Please fix!

2021-12-06I had a great experience at Sam Ash. Daniel and the store manager (sorry didnt catch his name!) were more than helpful! Daniel took the time to meticulously explain the features of a Yamaha digital piano which i ended up buying! They also provided us alternatives for taking the piano home since we were nervous to assemble it ourselves ! I recommend this store since they are really passionate about music and know how to inculcate that in other people! Shout out to Daniel!

2021-11-20This store is levels above guitar center. in knowledge and customer care. Steve the guitar repair tech goes above and beyond. Jobs that take guitar center weeks he will get done in an hour. He doesnt have an ego and will make you feel at home while working. the floor guys also go out of their way to make customers feel welcome. the selection isnt the largest but the prices are fair and overall the atmosphere is amazing. if you like that mom and pop store feel with good retail or below prices this is the place for you. its quiet and happy. you dont feel like just another customer here. you feel like family.
