I recently used Sail Away for my proposal and it was an amazing experience My Fiancee & I loved it from start to finish. Robert made things work out so much easier to take away the nervousness from me. It was always easy to get a hold of him when I had questions to ask him regarding the proposal he helped me plan everything and it worked out perfectly. Our Family & Friends loved the photos and drone footage he took. I cant say it enough of how great this experience was and how we got to enjoy the fireworks show at night....Well worth it! We really enjoyed the 3 hour private and planned proposal cruise and will remember it forever. Robert was very communicative before, during, and after the trip. He provided easy instructions about parking and met up with us promptly. He picked up us with his zodiac, and from there it was a smooth trip to the yacht. Once sailing started Robert was very skilled in chasing the sunset for our proposal photos, even on the cloudy day. During the trip he was very professional and allowed is to enjoy our time together and only intervened during special highlights. My girlfriend, I mean fiancé, liked the fact that there was a toilet on board. Also, blankets are provided, but it is still best to bring a jacket for your lady if you will be doing a later cruise, I did not, but luckily one was available. I am glad I contacted Sail Away San Diego for my proposal, it couldnt have gone any better.We highly recommend Sail Away San Diego!
Our time with Sail Away was such an amazing experience! Robert really went out of his way to help this engagement be something my fiancée and I will remember forever! Starting from our first phone call he explained everything clearly and was encouraging to how this date was going to be and worked with me on some things Id like to happen as well. The time on our sail started so well, Robert picked us up on the beach and immediately made us feel at home and comfortable , once we arrived to his yacht Robert was professional and a lot of fun. The boat was very nice and clean and the lounging area was very comfortable with amazing music allowing for such a blessed experience. Once the sun started to go down we received some champagne which tasted good and allowed us to relax even more. Roberts photographs were very vibrant and it was seen that he cares for his job and clients. They turned out so great and beautiful. After the proposal Robert congratulated us and took us on a short cruise past downtown and all the lights to finish off the night. I highly recommend his services! and as a plus his families support is great as well! His wife makes amazing tea!! I did the proposal cruise with Sail Away San Diego on March 9th 2019. Robert was extremely professional while also being very personable throughout the entire process. The night of the cruise went perfectly with a spectacle cruise down to the southern part of the bay. It was rather chilly outside but the large blanket and heater paired with champagne and relaxing music made for a romantic cruise down to the perfect spot where Robert anchored the boat. With an amazing sunset over Coronado Island I proposed and Robert got absolute picture perfect shots of our special moment. The drone video also turned out extremely well and I would recommend this proposal cruise to anyone looking for a romantic way to ask the big question.
All I can say is what an INCREDIBLE UNFORGETTABLE experience Robert gave my fiancé and I. He did such an amazing job with hosting us. I had an amazing experience booking a proposal cruise with Sail Away San Diego. Robert was very helpful in helping me set up the whole thing. I was able to enjoy an awesome cruise in the bay with my fiancee, especially with the nice breeze and setting sun. Robert did well to give us our privacy, but also provided us with a good conversation when we wanted.Then came the proposal with the pictures, which went smoothly and looked great. Dinner was also well-prepared and everything was perfect! I never felt rushed or intruded upon.I highly recommend working with Robert for all your cruising needs in San Diego!
We had an incredibly memorable experience with Sail Away San Diego. To begin, we arrived at Coronado around 15 minutes early, and the boat arrived RIGHT on schedule, at 4:30 pm. When we arrived on the boat, we were led to a comfortable, private section of the boat that had a his and hers seating area. We had a huge blanket to keep us warm which I loved. We got a one or two minute safety/rules discussion with Robert and then we were on our way. The views were beautiful and we were able to relax privately at the front of the boat. We werent going against the wind so it wasnt too cold with the blanket on. When we anchored out on the ocean, we popped some champagne, had photos taken, and then a surprise proposal! The photos came out incredibly- and we got them the next day which was great- Im used to waiting up to two weeks for professional photos. Robert was very experienced- he knew exactly how to photograph portraits with a sunset backdrop. He told us exactly where to stand, and how to pose. I appreciated that because the photos did come out beautifully! We were also welcome to explore the boat which we did, and the boat was exceptionally clean. I felt comfortable walking around without shoes on. Overall, I had such an incredible proposal. Robert was a professional, the sailboat was beautiful, and we had an incredibly private and memorable experience!
Amazing experience from start to finish. I booked Roberts proposal package as a surprise proposal for my girlfriend while we were in San Diego and she was blown away. My heart could explode with how perfect this moment was for me. Sail Away San Diego came highly recommended by a colleague, and the experience did not disappoint. I booked online and received a message from Robert promptly to discuss the details of the sail. Upon arrival into San Diego, we met Robert as discussed and were promptly escorted to the boat and boarded. We were offered the forward deck with pillows and blankets; however, we quickly ended up in the cockpit with Robert, as I was particularly interested in the sailing aspect of it. We ended up spending the entire cruise in the cockpit sipping champagne and exchanging great stories with Robert, as he let us take the wheel and sail around the bay. We even raced another fellow sailor, setting new speed records in the boat. Roberts hospitality and humility were abundant, and he was (is) very knowledgable of sailing and the San Diego Bay area. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone planning to visit San Diego. You will not be disappointed!
I proposed to my girlfriend on 8/20/16 and let me tell you that I did not know how my experience with Robert would go. I was not sure if it would be everything that I wanted. Let me tell you that it was perfect. I have not received the pictures yet since it is just a full day but he did say I would get them within 2-3 days. Robert is very quick on his feet so even if the girl is suspecting anything or has questions he knows exactly what to answer. We met him at the dock, he took us out onto the boat and explained the whole trip for us. We spent about 1 hour and a half just sailing and he played romantic smooth music which was perfect. We sat on this couch seating he has in the front of the boat and he served champagne. When I went to grab the ring from my guitar case he distracted my girlfriend by positioning her into some fake pictures while I grabbed the ring. He took some pictures of us separate so she would not grab my coat and feel the box and then gave me the cue to propose. Robert is a professional and is really concerned with making this the best day ever. He is very friendly, easy to talk to and will work with you and any accommodations you may have. Thank you very much, it was awesome and worth every penny.
Where do I begin, Robert has to be the best guy in all of San Diego. I did the proposal cruise and Robert does a perfect job in really balancing the fact that he is doing a photoshoot and giving you privacy to be with your loved one. My now fiancee absolutely loved the whole experience. She really had no clue and thats credit to Robert and how he goes about his business. I can not begin to tell you what a wonderful experience this was for my husband and I. It was our first trip to California, and our first time sailing on a sail boat. Working with Robert was easy, from questions about the trip, what to expect, making the reservations, and the entire trip. We ended up booking a dinner cruise, and enjoyed watching the sunset. The trip was first class start to finish. He was quiet when we were quiet, and he was happy to chime in when we asked questions, or engaged him in conversation. The dinner was very elegant, and the champagne was delicious. I dont know if Ive ever had a more peaceful, fun, relaxing time. If we ever go back, I will make sure to book THIS cruise again. I set up a sunset proposal cruise for my now fiancé with Robert and he accommodated us unbelievably well. We both enjoyed everything and every part of the night. He made us feel very comfortable and very private as well. He offered to take pictures of the whole experience and caught the wonderful moment on camera as well. Robert, the owner of the boat/the captain/cook/photographer/proposal coordinator, is a consummate professional, whose attention to detail is so precise, he is scary good at what he does. I opted for the 4 hour cruise that included dinner, two bottles of champagne and a set of photographs of the actual proposal moment (including many more professional shots that could double as your engagement photos that some people do after they get engaged these days.) The entire experience was phenomenal!! Even the dinner that Robert cooked on the boat was delicious. Totally worth every penny because we will be able to share this moment with our grandkids.

I surprised my girlfriend with a sunset cruise for her 25th birthday. It was the perfect evening, Robert made the planning very easy even from Michigan! The boat is beautiful and it was very nice having a private experience with just the two of us. We were probably out there for around 5 hours in all (which when I was planning this I thought it would be too long, but that was not the case). An additional perk of sailing with Robert is that he is a photographer as well, and took a bunch of photos of us with his camera and will email us the files (which I am very excited to see). Very highly recommended and next time we sail we will be sure to sail with Robert, perhaps try the dinner cruise next time! Thanks Robert!
I cant thank Robert and Katerina enough in the attention and love they showed my fiancé and I through this extremely stressful and once in a lifetime moment!! The ship was extremely well kept, the food was delicious, the vibes were excellent leading up to the moment and Robert ensured that he walked me through every step the day before the trip and then when I went to the bathroom on the ship, he doubled checked to ensure that it would go off without a hitch. Robert and Katerina provide a super unique and magical setting and the icing on the cake... the photos turned out unreal!! I was so impressed that Robert was able to capture our moment with such excellent photos and even a video from his drone!! If you are on the fence or even considering it then I highly recommend them!

Let me first say how Robert went above and beyond for my fiancé and I to make my proposal perfect. He first contacted me several days in advance to make sure we had a game plan down. From going over secrets code words on when to propose to showing me how to posture myself for a perfect shot . While in the boat trip Robert made my fiancé and I feel comfortable and at east. Robert made my proposal so much better and exciting. My children planned a surprise sunset cruise for my husband and I to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and to say that it was the perfect experience does not begin to describe it! But as we came aboard we were delighted and entertained for every second of the trip. I planned a Day cruise with Robert weeks ago as a surprise for my husbands 60th birthday. IT WAS FANTASTIC. Every touch point in making arrangements were perfect and Robert was right on time. From the Zodiac boat trip out to the Babayaga to the drop anchor for lunch, and the sail back to Coronado I was blown away. My husband had a great time playing captain and this could not have been a better way to spend such a special day. I would highly recommend Sail Away San Diego. Wow wow wow! Gorgeous sail boat and a phenomenal experience aboard. Sailed Coronado with my now fiance who surprised me with a proposal. We came away with amazing photos and even more phenomenal drone footage. It was a beautiful experience. Robert and Katerina really put the personal touch on a once in a lifetime journey.
It stared out with my boyfriend buying a Groupon for us to go whale watching that turned into the most perfect proposal. Captain Rob was even in on it, he had answers to all my questions before I even asked. The boat was beautiful and Captain Rob pulled out all the stops for our proposal from romantic music and the most delicious champagne (which we are using for our wedding champagne toast) to the perfect spot to watch the sunset and say yes to my now fiance! And the best part was that he took pictures of the entire proposal. A huge thank you to Captain Rob for the start of our forever love story as man and wife.
The word I would use to describe this experience is WOW. We are from Canada and were visiting San Diego. I knew I was going to propose so when trying to decide how I found Sail Away San Diego and thought this is the way I need to propose.Right from the start everything ran smoothly, the communication back and forth with Robert and his wife Katarina when planning was very helpful and they were able to put my mind at ease from thousands of miles away. They handled everything extremely well. They were so accommodating and flexible. We were supposed sail on a Thursday but bad weather was coming in and Robert contacted me and said the Wednesday would work better for weather if I was interested, lucky we did switch days because it rained on the Thursday.On the boat Robert was amazing, when we got a little chilly out he appeared with a blanket for us, a little later he appeared with two glasses and bottle of champagne. All without us needing to ask and without us even noticing he was on the boat.Thanks to Roberts photography skills we have some amazing photos of the proposal! I dont know how he did it but he got a bunch of photos of the proposal and then quietly disappeared and gave us our time alone. We never felt intruded on or as if someone was watching us. It was great how even though there were three people on the boat Robert made it feel as if it was just my fiancé and I.I want to thank both Robert and Katarina for making this surprise proposal so amazing and special. Traveling from land locked Kansas to coastal California was an exciting adventure. My girlfriend and I had been planning a vacation to San Diego and the thought of spending some quality time on a sailboat was very appealing. After speaking to Robert over the phone I decided to charter a surprise proposal cruise for the two of us. The time aboard the Baba Yaga could not have been better or more romantic. Robert was more than accommodating, provided us with a sense of comfort along with laughter, all the while maintaining a sense of privacy. The view was spectacular, the vessel immaculate, and the whole experience unforgettable. This was one of the BEST Adventures. Robert our Captain was AMAZING. There was so much communication in between right up to the date. I requested the proposal sunset sail and it was PERFECT. I just want to thank Robert for being a fantastic person. He was very personable and knew when to make everything just right. Me and my now Fiancé set sail this past weekend for a three hour sunset tour. We opted not to get the pictures but I think I should have sprung for them. That being said Robert was more than happy to take a couple pictures with our phones. Great experience. Thats is the best way do make a proposal - very romantic and beautiful. Champagne, romantic music, sunset, beautiful yacht - no chance she will say No. It is affordable as well. After 3 hours of sailing we were very surprised to get a free ride to our hotel - thats how good Robert treat his clients. Be sure he is the best!
The Proposal Cruise was PHENOMENAL!!! Ozzy and I really enjoyed ourselves! We were more than comfortable with Rob, he made us feel like we had known him for a while and he was very attentive to our needs. Although my hair was a complete and utter mess due to the wind, he took amazing photos. He even prepared a wonderful Salmon filet dinner complete with a bottle of Champagne and delicious Cheesecake for dessert! This review is long overdue! I took my husband out with Sail Away San Diego for his birthday as a surprise, and it was the best choice I could have made! The captain was peach, the sailing was smooth and fun, and the food was beyond amazing! I would highly recommend this as a special event one-evening get-away, or just a fun thing to do in San Diego. I reserved the sunset proposal cruise with Sail Away San Diego for Saturday Oct 11th. Not knowing what to expect, my nerves were high. Robert scheduled a pick up on the a beach right next to the Cornado Bridge and sailed us away in his 51 Sailboat. My girlfriend at the time (now fiance) was amazed from the start. With her being the only one not in on the suprise, we sailed for an hour and a half to the perfect location. Robert was there taking pictures of our goofy selves. Right as the sun was setting Robert said our, predetermined, secret phrase for the okay to propose. Luckily she said yes! I couldnt be happier with the whole experience. If you are looking for something special for you and a loved one, this is the place to go.
We had an absolutely perfect sunset sail on which I proposed to my now fiancé. We also took advantage of the photography which turned out better than I could have imagined. My fiancé raves about the whole experience and is constantly showing off the pictures that we got. We actually have to convince people that some of the photos arent from a postcard and are actually us, everything is so professionally done. Robert was available every single time i called and was right on time for every step of the way. He helped work out when the lighting would be the best and had everything set up so that i could focus on the proposal and not worry about the logistics of everything else. From the very first time i called to get some initial information all the way through to emailing us the photographs the very next day, i cant think of any way our experience could have been better. My girlfriend and I took a sunset dinner cruise with Sail Away SD. This was one of the best experiences of our life, hands down. TRULY unforgettable. Even from the day I made the reservation I felt extremely satisfied with the service- almost instant email replies, as well as being really flexible. I changed my mind about which cruise we wanted to take like 3 times as well as switching the dates, and they were more than accommodating and always understanding.Their boat is absolutely beautiful and clean and is such a smooth ride. I always get sea sick even with the smallest waves but not this time.The food- OMG. Were picky. But the chicken that Katerina cooked was to die for!! Everything was on point. And they had it all set up so romantically, with some light jazz playing in the background.Robert is also an amazing photographer, so if youre debating on the photography package, DO it. You wont regret it. We brought our own DSLR and so that made for great conversation with the captain and even got a few tips from him as well. They are so friendly and so easy to get along with and talk to. Sailaway San Diego provided us the best food and the best experience we could possibly have for an anniversary. The champagne was awesome, the salmon was perfectly cooked, and not to mention, the weather was perfect for such an occasion. I regularly charter sailing excursions out of Dana Point. This was our first time with Robert/Sail Away San Diego. It was, BY FAR, the lousiest charter experience that any of us had ever had.Upon being ferried to his boat via Zodiac (no, they dont have a slip) and having to climb aboard, we were then informed that we would be confined to the bow of the boat. Generally, when you do a private charter, the basic idea is that you get to enjoy the entire boat. This great rule of Roberts meant that four adults were required to sit on a odd looking piece of what I can only describe as funky green shag carpeting, that would have truly been meant for maybe two people. We gave the spots to the ladies, while my buddy and I spent 3 hours trying to get comfortable on one butt cheek. Im not sure whether he made us feel more like little children or like prisoners. Either way, it wasnt relaxing, fun, or worth a nickle, or our vacation time.Each time one of the ladies needed to use the restroom, we were made to feel like it was an imposition.After slowly creeping across San Diego Harbor for about 20 minutes, I realized that Capn Robert hadnt bothered to unfurl the jib. I questioned if we were going anywhere, anytime soon, because of this. My wife walked back and questioned Robert about when wed be heading to sea. He chose to then inform us that we wouldnt be going anywhere, because the swell was up and we wouldnt enjoy the bumpy ride. We found this out AFTER we had all boarded, and I was obligated to pay him. All of us have spent plenty of time at sea, and would have been fine with a little bit of swell. Instead, he decided to take our money and not even bother with giving us the option.We slowly inched around the bay, seeing and doing nothing. No wild life, no ocean, nothing interesting (other than seeing the Naval base from afar). For the last 15-20 minutes he anchored us next to a party boat where we got to be bored some more, by their lousy music.The only thing lousier than his music, was the wine. Do yourself a favor (if you decide to book a charter, still), and say no thanks to the wine.Bottom line: $485.00 gets you a second rate butt ache at the bow of his mediocre boat.Solution: Stay with ANY of the yacht clubs in the area. They will give you great service, a great captain, a great boat, great communication, and a great experience for about $35.00 to $70.00 more than Captain Robert and his Super Crappy Sail Away San Diego experience.He got me once. He wont get me again!
SailAway SD was the best decision I made for proposing to my girlfriend. Once I booked the proposal, Robert (Captain) called me, to make sure how the event was about to pan out, they made a simple proposal memorable and I cannot stress my appreciation towards every detail Robert walked me through. We booked a day sail while visiting San Diego. Robert was a great guide and excellent with our four young children. Robert made this surprise proposal nothing short of our dream come true. From the start of communication with Robert to the very end of our sail he made it expectational. I decided to purchase the photos and videos because you only get ONE proposal so why not go all out. His turn around rate for photos and video were so fast it was amazing. We wish he could capture our wedding photos lol! We hardly could wait to share with our friends and family. While sailing on the beautiful waters of Coronado, Robert played awesome vibes and even chilled the wine I brought to enjoy with my fiancé. Robert was the perfect guy for this proposal and helped me pull it off it was a complete surprise for Natalya! I would recommend him every time he is a 10/10. 2022-05-30I wanted to surprise my wife with an unique experience for a date and Robert delivered exactly that. He went the extra mile in every part of our experience and even put in some additional surprise gifts. The salmon that he had prepared for us that evening was absolutely delectable and paired well with the beverage he surprised us with. By the time we were sailing back at the end of the night, it was clear that Robert took great care in his preparation for our experience. His professionalism and forethought helped to create and maintain the unique romantic experience I was looking for.This was also the first time my wife and I have had our pictures professionally taken and the photos and video he made for us were exceptional. 2022-07-13Robert made our engagement vision come to life! He thought of everything and met with us over the phone beforehand to go over the logistics and make sure we knew how the process would work. He gave us excellent recommendations for things to do in the area as well, which we really appreciated. His photography and drone videography are breathtaking, and we got the edited photos and video back in less than 24 hours. 2022-07-13I contacted Robert a few days leading up to the date I planned to propose to my girlfriend. Robert and his wife Katerina were incredibly helpful and accommodating with staying in contact, and communicating with us, that by the time of our sail, there was no stress at all. Because of that, we were able to focus on, and cherish every single moment!The sunset was beautiful, it was cloudless, not too windy, and we even got the full moon right after the sunset! Robert made sure to capture the beauty of every moment. From the photos, to the drone footage that he took.I could not have been more happy with how things turned out, and it was such an easy and stress-free experience that I can’t begin to say how much I encourage others to take their own sailing voyage with Robert!

He can make your day remarkable and will take away all the pressure of organizing the surprise. I had contacted Robert just 2 weeks before my proposal day and he talked with me for more than an 1 hour to plan everything. He explained me everything in detail from the proposal posture to the color of the box. His boat was amazing and very clean. He had also arranged a perfect cozy seating for us. He drove the boat to a perfect location where the sunset was beautiful. He diverted my gfs attention and then gave me the hint to propose her. He clicked so many awesome photos of the moment. Today also when we see the photos we relive the moments. He even took a drone video which captured our proposal and even the sunset perfectly. 2020-02-18Huge huge shout out to Robert and family behind this beautiful company. I was looking at things to do for our first anniversary in San Diego that are unique to experience especially something with which I can surprise my husband. I found this and spoke directly to Robert who walked me through the experience over a call. Oh boy, it was only after we experienced this magic on his sail boat that took us both to another world. Also, he was so sweet to present us a cute little yummy heart shaped valentine dessert as we happened to book it for the Valentine’s Day. It felt surreal, especially the stars as it got dark and the city lights around made us feel so special. Also Robert has some great stories to tell behind his cute company. We enjoyed every bit of this experience and I can’t suggest this enough to anyone else. Great experience, great conversation, so intimate affair and I am out of words.. very glad we did this and my husband kept talking about it continuously after we did this. 2017-11-20Sail Away San Diego was the best experience I could have asked for! I tricked my girlfriend into thinking going on a sailboat was for her birthday and she was in shock when I proposed to her. Robert was so amazing and quick to respond to any of my questions. We had the best time and our photos turned out amazing! These will be memories that we will have for the rest of our lives and I cannot thank him enough. 2021-04-05I have contacted Robert 4 month before my proposal in the beginning of 2021. He is a very nice person and provides me many details about the proposal sailing, including where we are sailing to, when to propose and how to propose. We talked over the phone for about 4 to 5 times before the sailing and each call was about 1 hr. On the sailing day, me and my girl sit in front of the boat and enjoyed our special moment. Although there is a pandemic going on, Robert had his mask on throughout the sail and everything is clean and organized, so we feel very safe. Robert is also an expert in taking photos to capture the best moments and flying the drone is definitely a plus to our sail. After the sail, he sent us the photos/video a day after. More importantly, he customized the video with the song we like, drone footage and the photos. The overall experience is amazing !!! Strongly recommend Robert, especially in your important moment.
