Safeway is very convenient and you can usually find your favorite brands there. My biggest gripe is that they are expensive and their customer reward/savings program is a pain. I think they should put all the coupons and digital deals on every reward card instead of having to comb thru all the coupons and picking out which ones you want
The only issue might be with this Safeway is they dont have quite enough parking.... Outside of that the store is great good layout as always good prices and this one has a gas station.... So if you have your Safeway reward points built up you can save up to a dollar on their gas which is amazing because they already have some of the lowest gas in town.
Super hardworking, friendly in a genuine sense place. One of the oldest Safeways with a very old-school Safeway feel. A bit dated though, and at times too disorganized feeling. Its a decent Safeway, but seems weird about their use of space. Good for a quick trip, but not the best Safeway for a big list. Long lines since the 90s, and countless times Ive heard customers complain about things being in the way or difficult to locate. While true, its still alright for the most part Just go in for a few items, keep your eyes peeled, and be careful not to trip on displays that are seemingly built and posed as soon as you turn around.
Super clean. And friendly. Still cleaning the belts before each customer. Workers switching off on the register even clean before they start using the register. Let people know over the intercom that the self checkout line was open and no one in it when lines started to build up. All in all fave safeway in the county.
Slowest checkout! Prices are marked up beyond legal limits. Worst points and rewards! Condiments are way the hell over at the end of the store. Its a rediculous setup. No clean baskets no bathroom. I could go on!RE owner: I appreciate you getting back in a professional manor. Im not angry with you but there are certain things necessary for both locals and tourists needed. The Western Union Printer was down for how many weeks? Each time i waited 10 minutes for customer service up to 15 minutes to buy money orders or send money i was told the printer was down. The overall employee performance is friendly but no slow. You have checkers that literally clean the entire belts for Covid with a line back to the end of the isles and checkers that see the line and move it along just cleaning the space needed. Youve got some great people there. Maybe move the performers to the busy hours and slower help to the less busy hours. An Indoor atm would be convenient and bathrooms should be available. Ive never seen that in a Safeway up north. I get the homeless so you put key codes on the locks. Ok again. Thank you.
Always out of things. Last time I was not able to get 6 things on my shopping list.Baggers run off after bagging so they dont ask you if you want help out. They should ask not run off. Chicken is expensive and most times it is dried out. Boxes are endlessly in aisles. Maybe they need a lawsuit, before they rectify this. Very disorganized.
One of the worse experience at Safeway. Didnt have things I needed. When it was time to check out only one cashier. Three young men Baggiers) just standing there talking. I felt bad for the cashier so I started baggie while the three young men just stood there. They never did help me. Very disappointed. Ive been shooping at the Aptos Safeway for over 45 years.
A few months ago I posted the below review. Giving this store 2 stars. I am happy to report that many of the items mentioned have improved. The selection of items has improved. The lighting has improved. And best of all: the check out process has improved. Most of these changes have taken place without a Major store remodel.Currently the shopping center that this Safeway is in is being remodeled. But they havent started on the store yet. I am hoping for even further improvements in this store. Thank You to the new management. Everyone seems happier. Good work! The old review is below:This must be one of the saddest Safeways in the chain. Limited selections and limited shelf space. And the lighting is dim. The aisles are narrow and cluttered with display. Check out is slow. This store was scheduled to be remodeled a few years ago. But some locals blocked the expansion. A short time later Safeway was sold to another grocery chain. The service and selections have improved slightly but not enough to get to average.
Manager was heartless. He would not let someone come out to help me get the keys out of my car with a broomstick to unlock the door from my open wind s on the other side of the car. Its clearly wouldnt have cost him anything and was unwilling to help a customer out in need.
This beach is protected by a jetty, so there arent really waves like the open ocean, so its a good place to bring little ones to play in the water. Dogs are allowed; there are signs requiring they be leashed. 90 percent are allowed to run loose. Of those, 90 percent are good doggy citizens, well behaved and stay by their own people. The other ten percent run up into peoples beach tents and check out what food might be there. Not cool. I shouldnt have to fight off some random dog so the kids can eat their own snacks. The parking lot has grown increasingly busy too, requiring visitors to park down the road and hike back up to the tide pool area. Many people park along the road leading to the parking area, even though its posted that parking is prohibited. Idk if anyone ever gets ticketed or towed, but its not a risk that I am willing to take. So we dont come as often as we did last season.
Comprehensive albeit a bit expensive compared to discount shopping places but youll find every thing youre looking for. Great first stop off the freeway ,(turn right off hiway 1 north, left for 1 south) for families looking to supply or augment their beach trip. Usually the lines move quickly. Occasionally great sales if they get your phone number for the Safeway club
I hit this place on the way home from work almost every other day during the week to pick up some wine, milk or bread and its always the same sad story; not enough checkers and lines so long you just shake your head and somberly get in at the end. Most of the checkers are nice enough to ask you how your day is or if you found everything you were looking for, but there are a couple who seem to be just going slowly through the motions. Like no matter how fast or slow they go they feel like the line will never end so they might just as well go at their own pace. Im not the kind of customer who needs his hand held or needs to be made to feel welcome. All I want is for the checkers to check me and everyone else out with a little sense of urgency. If youre going to do something, for Petes sake do it well! Be good at your job! Its a lot more fun that way and people will appreciate your skill. Otherwise, youre just being miserable and making others miserable around you. Dont get me started on the parking lot! Oh my God! Anyway, I need to stop making this store a regular stop. Im just being a co-dependent to this sad, depressing little store.
Ive been going to this Safeway for years. Its close and convenient and the prices are good. They have a great bakery and I really have appreciated the service there. The service at the Starbucks is not the greatest, but overall I think the key is to time your visit well and have a little patience.
MBA hotshots keep instructing Safesay managers to move products around the store to keep shoppers in the store longer. Directly opposed to the pandemic idea to make shopping in stores go faster. They move products around to force people to walk the entire store and spend more money in the carbohydrate aisles.
Typical Safeway, although this one is smaller then most. Like every other Safeway I have ever been to they were understaffed and the wait to checkout was longer than it should be. I picked up a sandwich to go and today, at least at the sandwich counter, they got me in and out reasonably quickly. The rest of the store however, seemed quite busy with long lines at checkout.
This store is not open 24 hours as claimed, and not only that but an employee rudely shouted out the front door at me, The store is closed! He then ducked back inside the door as though I were about to rob him. Keep in mind that I am a middle-aged woman of petite stature and likely would not appear to be a threat to almost anyone. Not only that but the place is overpriced.
A really nice Safeway. A lot of people seem to hate this place, but Ive never had a bad experience. Yes the lines can get long, but relax, theyre not that long. Take a breath. Everything will be ok. If anything the shoppers can be rude. I was sitting outside with the dog while my wife was shopping and a lady in a new convertible Mustang parked dead center in a red zone blocking the center main door and ran into the store. Gone for 15 minutes... I kept watch. All that time everyone going in and out of the store had to walk around the car. You should have seen the baggers jockeying the carts around the car to bring them back to store.
The shopping experience was pleasant, but the checkout experience was terrible. I believe her name was Sharon, she had a chip on her shoulder or was just angry. When her bagger left, she proceeded to move so slow, making me feel that I should have bagged my own groceries. She told me 3 times that she would call a bagger. She said that I shouldnt put the 13 pound dog food bag on the counter, because it was too heavy for her. And many other annoying gestures that she made. I wont be back
This Safeway is not the the largest store I have been to, which suits the cute town of Aptos that it serves, but still has a wide selection, and variety of foods to fit any needs. Easily visible from the road, convenient parking, plenty of handicapped spaces, clean appearance, and smiling employees! All you need in a grocery store!
Beautiful, big store. The shopping carts are in a weird location on the side of the door behind a wall, and when i could not find them the two employees could not seem to help me either. A nice regular customer showed me the secret stash. Store is so big you almost need a staff member to direct you if your new. Manager was Simi friendly. It took him about a minute to acknowledge me at the counter even though I was in front of him. When I joked about needing assistance because it was a big store he said you should try being the manager with a friendly smile.
One of the older Safeways in Santa Cruz County, but very nice. Parking can suck also many of the drivers. The staff is very helpful and will help you and will look in the back for items if not out. They need more cashiers in the evening and holidays or the managers need to come out and help more.
I had them make a small cake and a half sheet cake for my wedding tomorrow. The order was clearly written, the color of the flower I brought in to match the decoration colors and this is what I got. I am so bummed. I dont have time to get another one some where else, the half sheet cake is empty. This is not what I planned at all for my wedding. This is awful.
Waiting in lines is a daily and nightly problem at Safeway. It never fails. If u have time to waste then go to Safeway. It will take u 5 to 7 minutes to find a parking spot. But dont worry because once yr in the store they wont dissapoint. If there are more then 2 checkers good luck. Because if 2 customers have full Carts then you can rest assure that the quick checkout , 15 items or less, will be closed. This store is the worst in all of Santa Cruz county. Go to Deluxe Foods. You will never wait more ten a.minute or 2. And there prices really are much better then Safeways
I had been going to the store regularly for close to 20 years until I found Grocery Outlet. The problem with Safeway other than prices is that this particular store is jammed a good part of the time and since they remodeled expanding the store there is not enough parking so going there especially during tourist season can be a cluster f.... Grocery Outlet is like Costco but for single items as long as they have them. But I am a big Wine Drinker and Grocery Outlet has an incredible selection of off brands that are killer and ridiculously cheap. Another example is that I bought a 5 + pound chicken for $2.05 the other day. The expiration was the next day but so what? I took it home that night and cooked it and it was fabulous.
The ladies in the bakery went above and beyond! My daughter asked for an ocean themed birthday, and when I looked for cupcakes to take to her class the only selections they had were cupcakes with red or yellow frosting. They not only offered to make me some cupcakes with blue and white frosting, but went the extra mile and decorated them with fish and mermaid decoration for the perfect ocean themed cupcakes. Thank you for making my daughters birthday celebration at school perfect!
Bill in produce is very friendly and extremely helpful. He helped me find some Tomatillos by going the extra yard to get some in the back. I also watched him help other customers and is very knowledgeable. Bill really cares about your customers and wants all your customers to have a great experience at your Safeway location. Thanks. Mike
Takes 2 minutes to drive here, 3 minutes to find the item I need and 25 minutes standing in line waiting to check out. Any time of day. Try going at 11 pm to avoid lines, forget about it; still in line for 20 min. The prices arent good enough to spend this much time here when Deluxe foods down the road has plenty of friendly cashiers. It keeps getting worse so I stopped shopping here altogether.
This is the worst Safeway in Santa Cruz County. There is never enough checkers so the lines are always very long and it makes the store so packed, you can barley walk around. I have gotten so many items from this store that have gone bad within in a day or two due to wrong labeling. I find expired stuff on the shelves all the time. Its disgusting. Now i used to work here and let me tell you, the management is to blame. The managers here do not care about the employees what so ever. They chopped all the workers hours back due to there $50,000 overtime mistake? So the employees have to suffer for Albertsons mistakes. Management promised me a full time 40 hour work week when i started, and not even a month and a half later my hours got choped down to barley part time (and mind you i was promoted to back up lead a month in) and when i asked why, i was told because we didnt have it in writing. The employees here are treated so poorly its sickening. It doesnt matter how many years youve worked here, they still see you and treat you as a dispensable item or homunculus. The employees are overworked and severely under-appreciated, and under payed. They absolutely refuse to pay overtime, i had a co-worker from there who was owed over $3000 in overtime and was refused it even when she got the Union rep involved. Even the Union here is a joke, OBVIOUSLY there paid off by Albertons(Safeway). So next time you decide to go to a Safeway, you may want to reconsider and go to a whole different store entirely. If you need to go to a Safeway in town though, go to any other one NOT APTOS. So, next time you go to Safeway keep in mind that most of the employees have gone through what i have just described above, so try to treat them with respect and kindness.
Tried to get a money order. Lady at the customer service desk was extremely rude and unprofessional. Told me “its not her problem”. Will not be coming here anymore. Her name was Michole or something like that and people like her should not be hired for customer service positions. Absolutely unbelievable.
We have been shopping at the Aptos Safeway for 20 years, but no more. It used to feel like a neighborhood store, with friendly people who greeted and welcomed you to their store. Things have changed, and not for the better. There arent enough checkers so usually the lines are long. Also the checkers just seem to be going through the motions until their shift is over. The aisles are hard to maneuver with stacked boxes and displays. Some shelves are empty, usually the most popular items, and no one seems to know when they will be restocked. The manager, Dan, seems more interested in intimidating and embarrassing customers than being helpful and polite. After 20 years, sorry to say, we will be taking our business to Nob Hill and Deluxe Foods.
Weve been to this gas station several times but I think this one is the last seems like when we come something is out of order either half of the pumps or now its the air. Im disabled I cannot just bounce around from one place to the other looking for someone who keeps their equipment in good working order. I do not recommend this place at all, you will be disappointed .
I dont always get the discount specials at the register that are advertised on the shel. When I ask theclerks, not all of them check as the register did NOT give the additional discount. Am I so hard to understand. I check when Im in the car and will go back next time. Im a senior-limited budget, so every small discount matters. Thanks.
The Aptos Safeway is a hub of this small community. There arent self check outs, so all my neighbors are caught chatting in line while we do our thing. Its so different than in a big city where the other shoppers are all strangers. Also, this store is being remodeled in the near future, I wonder how the new feel will be.
Look. The manager needs to be fired straight up. I dont know why the people above him dont get it. Maybe if they had a better leader, they could put more people on the floor. 45 minutes in line to buy 6 items, one being some ice cream and an pathetic store manager playing Bejeweled is flat ridiculous. Humans...
Usually there along register weights here although this wasnt the case today . They do have a customer service person and a customer service desk but you often have to have that person paged . And I dont know why – perhaps because Im a health food store shopper but I just dont find this store pleasant to shopping . There just isnt anything warm or comforting here . But probably all Safeways are like this
My fiance and I went into the Safeway late , 2am, because we work late hours. We were rushed out by an older white gentleman. I guess he was an assistant manager maybe he called for a manager on the intercom. Anyways, insulted us by calling us thieves. He must have mistaken us for another couple. Which we tried to explain to him. But he had no time for that this evening or early this morning. To say the least we were severely insulted and will never visit this Safeway ever again. We took the time to show the gentleman our pockets, her purse, everything we had, to try to explain to him that we were not thieves.
My experience at Safeway Aptos is and always has been horrendous. There has never been enoug checkers and those Checkers that you have are slow except for a few who I tried to get online with but sometimes it doesnt happen that way. Today we were in line at the express lane a woman had items from the bulk grains and did not get the numbers for each of the three items. The checker look for the book several times really did nothing else but look to the book and couldnt not find the numbers to her bulk items. The Checker made us stand in line for over 10 minutes while he checked through the book for the numbers of the items. He still could not find them so I spoke up and said well why dont you go back and get the numbers to those items and so we can get through. The customer got indignant and rude to me as if we had all day for her to stand there and look through a book instead of going back and getting the numbers to expedite the line. Finally she just decided not to get the items and still was indignant and rude. This is always a problem at this Safeway in Aptos California Never Never he left Checkers at the store. Not to mention the parking lot is just too small to support our community here in Aptos especially during Peak tourist season. Soon there is a new Leaf Market going in the Aptos Village area if things dont change at Safeway Aptos you will lose many customers. As it is I find out where to go in unless the convenience of Safeway in my neighborhood is that my best interest. Eventually this Safeway will disappear because of lack of business and I know this because I speak to other customers while we wait in line and they always say this is the worst Safeway they have ever been to I feel things need to change in order to keep this Safeway afloat. In fact the attitude towards people like myself who speak up very poor and also tend to ignore me. I am a very friendly person but the situation at Safeway Aptos is not only my concern but many others and Im not one to be quiet about it. I hope to see some changes because as a consumer and as a person that shops at Safeway Aptos for many years I will have no trouble in the very near future to stop shopping at Safeway AptosThank you Michael Bardo
This Safeway has a chronic problem with long checkout lines. I stopped to pickup milk on my home from work, I ended up waiting in line for 12 minutes. The other people in line were all complaining as well. Im looking forward to the day when online grocery shopping takes over and puts this poorly run store out of business.
Worst Safeway I ever been. The cashier purposely ruin Xmas by refusing to sell a bottle of alcochol even after checking my driver license on Xmas eve. She demanded to see my passport since I am out of state. I gave her US govt issues NEXUS which is equivilant to passport. She argued driver license is not a valid proof of identity, but I am driving in CA? What the heck?Way to go xmas grinch! Stay away from this store! Limited selection as well.
The worst! Plenty of customers, one checkout open. When they do open another check out, they dont turn the light on, so you dont know if that checker is about to leave and close the line or not. No express lanes open. Who ever the manager is, should be let go. This is the worst Safeway ever.
You guys have drug addicts occuppying the bathroom where is your antennas? Spend a lot of money here take care of it geez. Your food is nasty in the deli to the cake had strawberry lemon and pink chocolate sprinkles ?! Gross. Pasta salad nasty how you mess up pasta salad? Dont know how to prepare food.... Man. Waste of money.
Why does Safeway in Aptos waste space with all the check stands when there is no employee at station. In twenty min. They lost several hundred dollars. 6 customers walked out. Angry. Fill the check stands. Not like you cant afford to. Not me. Heading to Watsonville Safeway.
Th overnight crew are always making you feel like youre totally interrupting their night when youre ready to check out. Tonight, I think EVERY staff member on th sales floor was wearing earphones or something because I practically had to yell EXCUSE ME! while standing about 1foot away from them to get their attention just so someone could be called to ring me up. I actually gave up trying to get th attention of th first employee I approached because Id already hollered Excuse Me! at him about 6times &he didnt even flinch, let alone turn around and/or acknowledge me (&hed been extremely rude on a previous visit) so I had to walk clear across th store to find someone else to holler at just to call up a checker. Ridiculous. Once someone wz paged, he ran up really quick which wz refreshing but by th time all wz said&done th only thing I wz purchasing - ice cream - wz already melting so much I almost decided to swap it out. I didnt only because I already felt unwelcome there &I just wanted to get out of that dreadful grocery store. A pathetic excuse for sales team. Super UNHELPFUL.
Worst checker ever! Didnt know what the Friday specials were and when I asked at check out for her to get me the product out of the back she told me I needed to go look for it myself. When I told her there was none on the shelf, she still refused to call and get the product out of the back for me. Looks like my business will be going elsewhere

2022-04-03Went in around 8:30pm this evening to grab a couple things. My husband grabbed some alcohol. We headed to the self check out where an older male employee was standing at the register. My husband went to show him his drivers license. The employee was EXTREMELY RUDE!! He wouldn’t check his ID and told him to go to non self check out that had a bit of a wait. His tone was so unprofessional and uncalled for. We have been in this store several times and it wasn’t an issue until tonight. We were exhausted from a day of exploring the town and didn’t need his rude condescending attitude one bit!!! The other cashier told me he was a manager. If that’s actually true then he needs to step down since he clearly is too lazy to be working in a customer service based business and should just retire. VERY poor customer service! His disrespectful approach to customers needs is NOT ok! Great way to run off customers. Maybe he would be more interested in a position that won’t be assisting customers directly. I will be using New leaf market from now on! I want to shop where my business is appreciated and make you feel welcome. I will also be contacting the corporate office to inform them of this situation.

2022-06-21I wish I was able to give this Safeway five stars. However there are several problems I faced while shopping. First, it was very difficult to find gluten-free, keto, etc items. Second was That they did not seem to carry many diet specific foods. Lastly they were out of stock for many items as well. Also wanted to mention that they charged me for two paper bags which is fine except they both broke the handles before I left the store and we’re not giving new ones. If I’m gonna pay for a bag at least not having rips

2022-03-20The best place, nice employees, no snobbish peeps at this Safeway. Good stock fast checkers, super nice checkers. Easy to find employees when you cant find someone to help r short people that cant reach top shelves.

2022-05-16Less than expected for a Safeway location. Felt a lot lower end than other Safeway locations, some shelves were not stocked, and the bathroom was in the back storage area? The bathroom was not clean, graffitied, and sections broken or missing. Otherwise, the location was fairly clean in the main sections and had extra items and self serve for those traveling through.

2022-06-09This place honestly could not be worse. They have been heading downhill for the last 3 or 4 years. Customer service is definitely not top of their list. Just visited the deli counter at 5.30pm on a Thursday - was told twice that they were not slicing any more meat that day. 5.30pm - dinner time ! I dont know if it was a disgruntled employee or some sort of misguided store management policy. The $400-500 you got from us each week is now going elsewhere. At least they have the tourists, and so dont need to care about the locals who sustain their business.UPDATE: Note the garbage response from Safeway below. They are asking ME to make an effort to reach out to THEM to solve THEIR problem. How backward is that ? Completely indicative of what I first posted.ANOTHER UPDATE - regardless of my previous comments , I needed a loaf of French bread and a small whole milk. When I got to the store around 5.30pm, despite the big bread sign saying hot at 5 or its free, there was no fresh bread in the store and the bakery was closed. OK. So on checking out with my milk I was asked, did you find everything OK ?. I said no, was asked why, and explained the no bread deal. He shrugged and said sorry. Why ask ? Management at this store is atrocious.

2022-03-15Good store with a decent selection. I just wish it was a bit more consistent is all... but I know as of lately theres a global supply chain issue, so I cut em some slack for that.

2021-10-04Cashier could’ve been slightly friendlier but oh well. They always seem to be out of the obviously sought out items customers other than myself love. But with the shelves constantly empty it would only make sense to order additional of that product because clearly not enough is being put on the shelves to keep up with the demand. I know they lose my money on a regular basis because they never have the 1 item I am always Looking and so I don’t even bother shopping at this store when my main trip to the store is for that 1 item, I go elsewhere because I have a better chance on getting the product I went there for.

2022-05-01This Safeway is garbage. Western Union is always closed also. Pretty useless people working there
