It was very difficult to finde a place to park. I had to step over people sleeping on the sidewalk, and when I got there I was told to return the next day. Other than that, it was ok. Your directions were a little tricky to follow because there is construction in that area. If its any helpful, my return trip was great.
Poverello is the place that everyone tells people to go, the police, DSS, churches, people around town. Everyone automatically states this, but that place is TINY! They dont have half the things they need to help the public. Its obvious that the business grads need to help with fundraising, construction, power, rooms, furniture, bathrooms. This place needs an extreme home makeover.
This place with the help of the staff like Ms.Aimee Garza who i called the Sunshine of the Huts in Poverello House, and with a case manager like Mr.James..its a place that will lift your spirits and give you the tools to a healthy and better life; Thanks to all that has help me to not only to find my own place but most importantly to be a better man and person to others. THANK YOU POVERELLO 🏠 HOUSE :
We all can fall on hard times. But the situation is looking worse each week. The pileup of trash needs to be removed. My heart goes out to the people that are living in the near by houses. They should have rights as well. I sincerely wish there was an easy fix for the homeless. I am greatful that Poverello House exists!!
This place needs help in many ways. The map program asked me to come back with more personal information for a week and a half. My last meeting consisted of an insulting interview, being asking why I was there right after the interview and the conclusion was that It would take too long for them to help me and if I have any questions I can always come back.
This place is like my second home. There are amazing people working here! They do the absolute best with what they have to serve a population that is in need. Dont listen to anything negative about this place, who else serves food to the homeless everyday, clothes them, and even tries to find housing for them? The answer is nobody does, period.
God bless this place and all that enter rather it be for a hot meal, hot shower, medical care, dental clinic, women shelter and mens drug treatment program this place is nothing short of amazing! I encourage anyone who is lost, hungry, homeless or in need of a friend to come see the staff here they will do everything they can to help you . Thanks to all of them anyone can enter and be encouraged. The staff is super sweet.
They are only out for themselves. They like to line their pockets with government money. They dont really help the homeless. They feed us old food and then give us barely any services. They also sell things that are donated to farms and other entities. Pray that you never need their help because you will be disappointed.
It might look like the bad part of the area but its always good people there you need to respect the people there if your homeless or need somewhere to stay or something like that or hungry you could always go to the Poverello will feed you and let you use the restroom Ill let you take a shower my advising do not pick a fight with the homeless people
The Poverello House has helped me in so many ways! when I was down and out, they fed me, clothed me, gave me shelter and even helped find me housing assistance through the MAP Point@the POV. They gave me an opportunity to get off the street and gave me a fresh new start!! They blessed me with so much, I am so very grateful and appreciate each and every person that helps out down there. Thank you all for keeping Papa Mikes Dream Alive and making him proud (R.I.P.) God bless & continue doing Gods work!!! 👍 👏 🙌 👊
I spent the last 5 years of my life homeless. Poverello can bring forth criticism from its homeless consumers in the same way teenagers criticize their parents. If it wasnt for the institution Papa Mike built from the ground up, I would have had no clothing, blankets, shelter, no place to just “exist”, no creative outlet, or support structure, Id have nowhere to shower, there would be nowhere for generous people to hand out blankets, Saturday coffee or nostalgic bowls of milk and cereal. But it DOES exist thanks to the generous heart and hard work of Papa Mike and all those called to his mission. I am fortunate enough to have had all those things and more. Thanks to the Poverello House and MAAP Point at the POV, Ive had a HOME where my boyfriend and I can build a foundation for a productive, fulfilling life both individually and together. So remember what you had before your first visit to the Poverello, and what you have now because they exist. And MAP does do what they say... But so many people want homes, they dont have time to remind you to get all your documents and stuff. If you bring them what they ask for (which they will make sure you get for free if any way possible) and bug them everyday about the status of your case once they have all your documents... YOU WILL GET ANY HELP YOU QUALIFY FOR! I PROMISE!
Thankful for these ppl for helping my husband get clean. Hes there at their rehab program. Its 6 months long. N a 6 month after care program to get you thru when you go home. Hes been there for 4 months and 1 week. Cant wait for Aug. 5th 2018 so he can come home. Thanks everyone there for being there for him and our family in our time of need. Much appreciated. Idk where we would all be if he wouldve never went. Amen to most of the staff and the Residents and of course the most important The Homeless Ppl that are the Clients. You all have no idea the impact u have made on us. We r homeless also but in Madera. So yes I cant wait for him to come HOME. Homeless or not, it dont matter. We are together and luv each other and stick together no matter what. I LUV U MY HUNNY BUNNY! Im so proud of u every day. I CANT EVEN BEGIN TO TELL U. Thank you to THE POV!!!
I cannot understand all the glowing reviews. This shelter has no respect for the concept of family and no compassion for the disabled. Pregnant women are required to lift heavy things, and they can forget about any chance to take a nap during the day. Truly disabled people get little assistance and seem to be discouraged from living at Poverello. I really hesitate to call this place a shelter, because it only offers uninsulated toolsheds in which to sleep. Not even real beds to sleep in—just cots or overturned milk crates with vermin-infested padding atop. Bedbugs prowl the drywall at night. No running water--just cesspool, standing-water sinks and reeking porta-potties that come summertime smell the way I imagine an abattoir to smell. How has the health department not shut this place down?If you come here, they will promise to help you find housing. Even if you jump through all their hoops, that housing will take years to come—if ever. Not even for veterans!I felt the need to set the record straight about all these positive reviews. They are the reason we chose this place (coming all the way from the Midwest to be gravely disappointed.) Living here has been my season in hell. I cannot understand all the glowing reviews.
I respect what they offer, not what they did to the homeless camped across the street. I have met many of these people and going and getting a job and get a real life aspect that society expects from all residents just isnt a possible alternative for so many and say every one of them decided to stay in a mission right, youd have no room. So the rest go to jail right? Where are you going to house the criminals? Who really were they harming? Or in the parks? Cruel cold world! Anyway, the Naomi House at the Pov.. Is a friggin joke. I personally stayed there until the old lady staff started lying about me because shes a b... and kicked me out for two days. The staff treat us like were there because were criminal and stupid. It was insulting the way we were yelled at and spoken to and that was just during the daily meetings! This is my personal opinion so I stay on the streets trying not to go to jail for trying to get warm in my blankets and rest. But what do I know, Ive always had conflicting issues with authority(due to asses like that with a power trip)
Greatest place when your homeless or run out of food at home they welcome all peoples to attend and they have good services to better your selves and programs for people w/ addictions to get the help they need... And also they have clinics for those that dont have medical.... And everyones kind and friendly....
A bit frieghtening for a person in a wheelchair.TP in dining hall--- for Restroom. One must get toilet paper to make a seat cover to wipe to dry hands and then take it all with you to the restroom.Unfortunately its very cold outside right now for medical situations. Which makes getting around its Poverello House very difficult for us.Local rescue missions medical respite program is up a flight of stairs not accessible to wheelchair individuals. As are quite a few of the shelters. Others such as Evangel home have no wheelchair ramp. So it looks like Fresno doesnt have much in the way to reach out to the wheelchair community.
Its. Ok far as them helping other an doing fore the home lesss an taking the time out an give people food clothes fore the kids an the shelter i can say they helped me an mines a couple of times an i do got to say is. They helpan helped a lots of peoples an there still helping others
At the preparado house its not a very good service cuz my experience from there Ive learned a lot just for 2 days. Cuz the people work there they eat nice and healthy and the ones that dont work there they go eat there but the food they give to those people its a crappy food that they eat 2 comparing to those people that they work there they get better food in the people dont work there theyre not treating people evenly if they eat good everyone has to eat good but my point is they dont gifts healthy food to other people that they go there and thats not fair thats why I dont go to aparelho house anymore kiss what I see there and how they wash the dishes in the cups and the spoons its not cool they dont use soap they just use hot water to rinse the food out thats it
I don’t know what Fresno would do without this institution, it has helped thousands of people suffering from addiction to food insecurity and all forms of the downtrodden human condition. No person is turned away, a core value that’s has been instituted since Papa Poverello started his crusade to help those in need. A one man army against despair and hopelessness that grew into Poverello House. A place to eat, doggie daycare for those utilizing the services, and MAPS-a change agent that tirelessly looks for solutions for unemployment, housing, mental health and drug and alcohol treatment, to uplift and mainstream the disenfranchised among us. Papa Poverello’s dream continues under the leadership of Mr. Cruz a bright and savvy young man who believes deeply in the concept that there are no such thing as a “throw away person.”
Look all are doing is playing us fro money look they always playing games with me look everything i do is bad look they get a way with everything look am not the same as them look they do drugs all day and all night iand know it because i always see them look i love my money more then anything i do not need drugs to be happy look if they want someone hlep them out then they to do something new look if you look it up the only one that has money is me when i get done with the cops lowhouesing food samts. Amd wic and get my tax that they need to give fro 17 yrs that i been and my ssi from a kid and all my lawsuit that i have on them and fro killing my family t🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸♿🎦🚑🚨📵because i have it all down i put everything down

This is a homeless shelter Center where they feed and give a place to sleep for a lot of homeless people and from my church Glory bound Ministries on Waterman Street off of California Street I work with our food bank and I drop food off to them to help Feed the Homeless
Bad experience if youre looking to volunteer your time do it somewhere else this place is run by ex-convicts who steal everything the management will treat you like a criminal for donating your time Absolutely no respect or dignity giving to anyone volunteering their time this place is the a pitta me of fraud

2022-07-05They are wonderful. I dont know how they do it considering all the different people &issues they have to deal with but they doit well. I for one am thankful for them. Dont know what Id have done had they not been there. Today I have a home and a full life thanks to the Poverello, Holy Cross center , and all the ones who support it.

2021-08-28I had a chance of donating a bunch of stuff and they were super wonderful! Its really easy, you past the gates and follow the signs for donation and youll be there. They ended up taking not only the food but also accepted dog supplies, electronics (I had electric blankets , string lights) but also feminine supplies and board games. They really do make it satisfying to donate and when you drive past you can see them doing amazing work. Good job yall

2022-03-17I went there to try to get into one of the turning point shelters. By the time I found out how its suppose to be done it was late in the day and no way to get any help. But I have it on a back burner for right now. Still might need to go.
