Have tried to sell here multiple times over the years and will bring large bags of items in - this time, they took one dress for $2 and completely ignored the practically new free people, madewell, etc items. The way they pick/price items makes absolutely no sense, especially considering the plethora of Shein, forever 21, etc items the store is filled with
This was my first experience with this store. I traded in for $4 credit + 5% off a $35 purchase. I came in expecting for low return since I had read reviews (also when I walked in one customer even angrily warned me after being disappointed with selling to the store). I didn’t mind though because everything was going to go to goodwill anyways and I was mainly there to shop and check out the store. My problem with this store is the inept and apathetic staff I encountered when I went the following week to return both items I bought. The cashier tried to refund me $4. Luckily I checked, because even after looking at their OWN store’s receipt the lead insisted that I that was what I had paid and the $30 was credit I received (even if that were the case I should still get the money because I sold the clothes to them). Not trying to judge but srs? Basic finance. I mean, the subtotal clearly read $31.88 and when I pointed it out, none of the girls said anything. The lead also tried saying it was because I got a discount. Yeah I got 5% off ($2), that doesn’t explain shortchanging my refund by $30.Then another came and defensively said that in any case the machine calculates everything. I even say anything to that because it doesn’t matter, does it, when the refund is clearly wrong? It was weird. Felt like three girls were ganging up on me over something that was clearly written down on receipt.A line started to form and I assume they only have one cash register, so none of the staff we received assisting other people who had to just wait and watch. Nobody’s fault, but still really uncomfortable.Eventually they must have realized because they manually inputted items to return, which didn’t match the original receipt (which I wasn’t allowed to keep) but I’ll take whatever. Not a single word of communication through out that they understood the error or an apology. I understand this place sells clothes for teens and young adults but the professionalism doesn’t have to reflect the same stereotype. Disappointing honestly.
For years, this was my go-to store when I was looking for some new jeans or tops. They often had a large selection of XS and smaller sizes. Things were always neat and sorted properly. But when I went to this store a few days ago, I was shocked to find that almost none of the clothes were sorted by size. Although the size markers are still hanging on the racks, practically nothing is in the right place. When I asked about it, one of the sales associates looked up from her mobile phone to tell me that the customers mess things up. She made no attempt to help me find the jean size I was looking for. She also confirmed that this place is under new management. I guess this explains why the store is in shambles.I dont plan on shopping here any more. Its like shopping at Goodwill where nothing is sorted by size. This is disrespectful to customers who want to find their size without wasting a lot of time.Dont bother visiting this Platos location anytime soon. Its much faster to find good deals at Crossroads Trading, Savers or Poshmark.I normally go out of my way to write positive reviews to support small business owners, but in this case, I feel the need to alert customers so they can avoid wasting their time.
Ok I knew they wouldnt take everything I had brought in to sell, but it was very obvious that they didnt even bother to go through the bags I brought in. Out of 3 large bags and lots of shoes with boxes, they took 5 items. FIVE. ITEMS. Such a slap in the face considering they didnt go through everything. I had brought in a lot of things they should have taken (brand new Champion, Converse, even Fenty x Puma) and to top it all off, their hours are so wrong. They have this tiny printed sign saying they open at 11:15 am on Saturdays instead of 10:30am. Oh but it gets better! They didnt even open till 11:30! These girls were in there and they still didnt open for another 15 mins. While there were atleast 3 other people waiting to get in. Just dont even bother selling here. AND CALL AHEAD. Cause who knows when theyll open..
Im a bit disappointed in their limited size range. Aside from that, you might find a gem or two, but only if you are less than a size 6.Reviews about customer service is pretty accurate as far as bad attitudes go. They are extremely selective to the point where they dont even bother looking at your things unless there is a logo prominently featured on the front. That being said, youre better off going to Crossroads Trading Co. They at least take the time to look at every item rather than flip through your stuff and hand you back a mess.
Its fine. Some stuff probably shouldnt have been put out to be resold but most of the clothes are in good condition. Prices are reasonable. I was just rushing in to try to find something for a costume and am definitely not the normal clientele (this place is for teens). I wouldnt go out of my way to go back, but at the time it was the convenient choice.
Unfortunately, they have youngins running the place and dont know how to sort through clothes to buy rare gems from people. I came by with a massive bag full of clothes, which included many luxury designers and also never-been-worn dresses. The employee did not purchase a single item due to wear of items or past fashion trends. But if you look at the store itself... nothing is on trend and seems to be filled with old basics.. hmmm. They should absolutely look into investing in better staff. Love the name though!
They were not friendly or professional at all. They scolded me on how clothes should be nicely folded and ready for them to go through and then didnt even keep one piece of clothes. Mind you there was clothes that still had the original store price tags on them. The website is completely misleading as to what they do. Would not recommend for selling or buying any clothes.
Literally typing this as I am here, and that’s how my reviews are mostly based. One hour before you close you’re not taking clothes? Okay, I would recommend hiring staff that can stay until close. I got here at 6:50pm as it’s my first time coming here, they told me that they close the buying counter one hour before they close??? Was I just supposed to know this? I’ll be taking my business at Crossroads Trading Co thank you very much.
I came here to get sale my used clothes. I called a few times yesterday and lady said yes we can take majority of the things. I came in today, checked in and waited 20 minutes which was fine because I looked around. As the girl was sorting through my items, I noticed there were a lot of rejects which didnt make sense to me because these were all brand new and I just lost a lot of weight from exercising so I thought someone else can use it. But no, I dont know how they observe their items but its a waste of time honestly because I came from Palo Alto through traffic!
I came before the store was going to close, and I could tell they didnt want anyone else coming into the store. I brought in a bag of very nice clothing from Brooks Brothers and J.Crew, but they said they had to send everything back due to general wear ... Once I got back to my car I noticed that they didnt even unfold my clothes. They simply didnt want to take a look at it since theyd rather close.I dont think Ive ever given a place a negative review, but I felt the need to today because I drove from north Santa Clara to south San Jose thru traffic on a weekday to get a few bucks for my nice clothes ... But they must have really not wanted to even look. Pretty sad.
Staff had no interest in actually doing their job. Brought in a large case of clothes (all reputable brands and all in great condition) and watched the girl behind the counter barely look at any of the clothes before telling me they couldnt buy anything.Dont bother bringing anything here; they wont even look at your clothes and they will not be helpful in the least.
For the last 5 years my sister and I have tried to sell clothes to them multiple times. They haven’t taken a single thing. We had new stuff and some even had the tags still on because we never wore them or ordered the wrong size and couldn’t return it. It’s frustrating when you call and they say they will buy clothes from all seasons and then when you show up they place your bag on the shelf and say it’s a 25-30 min wait, then when the wait is over the bag was left in touched and they said “our inventory is full”, “too old”... even though it was stuff still being sold online, or “not what they’re looking for” EVEN THOUGH they said they would take all seasons. Highly disappointing. Do not recommend to anyone!
I came in here to sell some clothes today but It wasnt what I expected. The employees were all super nice and helpful but I didnt receive much for my clothes even though most were brand names and brand new. They just dont pay you as much as they should and its not fair since they do sell each item for about $10.
My son and I recently shopped at Platos Closet in San Jose and purchased a red Columbia Jacket for $45.00. Unfortunately, after I took the jacket home and washed it (closely following the directions on the inside label) I noticed the jackets inner lining was deteriorating and was sloughing off. There were literally hundreds of tiny white specks on all the clothes in my washer and on the jacket. Since this jacket had an obvious defect, it should never have been bought and resold at Platos closet since they claim to sell gently used clothing not clothing that is falling apart.Since my son had only owned this jacket for a few days, I returned to the store with the jacket, my receipt and the price tag. I talked to one of the owners on duty and told her what had happened. Because it was an unusual situation, she was open to returning the jacket. However she had to check with Jeff, the co-owner and her husband, to make sure it was okay. She called Jeff on the phone and after speaking with him for a few minutes, she handed the phone to me so that I could speak with him.Jeffs attitude was extremely rude, arrogant and condescending. He made me feel like I was a complete idiot for wanting to return a defective jacket. He compared it to wanting to return a pair of shoes because they hurt your feet after a week. However, my situation was completely different. They sold me a defective jacket. The buyer for their store should have examined the jacket closely, noticed the flaw, and not bought it. Instead I bought it and now Im stuck with it. Jeffs attitude was well thats too bad for you. Its a used clothing store.Platos Closet was one of my favorite stores to bring my teenage kids, but now I will never step foot in that store after the way Jeff treated me.Buyer beware! Not only is Jeff an extremely unkind person, he does not stand by the cloths he sells.
Gross old Forever 21 clothes. Rude/inattentive employees. After a cursory glance at my J Crew, Theory, and Anthropologie clothes I was attempting to sell the employee told me my clothes were “not current enough” and handed them back to me. I would advise to take your business to Crossroads down the block for a decent selection of clothes and buyers with knowledge of fashion.
Decent selection but mostly low end brands like H&M. Found the store layout was a bit confusing with summer clothes all over the store interspersed with Fall items (it is mid-August). I dont believe there were any sales even though summer is almost over. I ended up buying a $5 shirt and was asked for my ID... I never have cash on me (it is Silicon Valley after all) and yet I have never once been asked for ID. I would understand for a large purchase but $5!?
There are really good deals to be had here. They are usually busy and crowded, the place seems to be in a bit of constant disarray. I found kids XL in with adult XL shirts. But the prices are really reasonable and the staff helpful and polite. I havent tried to sell any clothing there. But I like the selection and prices.
Honestly if i could i would give this place 0 stars. I dropped off my items a little over a month ago. First off i received like 25$ for like 30 items. Then i come to find out they only gave me one of my bins and STOLE my other bin and bag. They claimed they had it in storage for me, but when i came to pick it up it was nowhere to be found. Save your money and sell to crossroads.
HORRIBLE BITCHY STAFF!!! Brought in a huge bin full of Nike, American Eagle, Hollister, and Brandy Melville clothing. Mostly barely worn heels and Nike sneakers and lots of jeans and they took ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Last time I went in with half as much stuff and walked out with $150. The girl working was rude and trashy. DO NOT GO HERE YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF!
The girls here are so rude and of no help. They’re more nosy than helpful. At least the ones that helped me this morning and the one that I talked to on the phone a few weeks ago. The clothing is worn out and dusty. Pretty pricy for what they are. Don’t recommend at all

2022-07-13This location is not what it used to be. They might as well call it Shein’s Closet because tons of their accessories are straight from Shein and they’re reselling them for triple the original price. Tons of clothes from Shein cluttering the racks that are just awful quality too. I thought the main reason to thrift was to find quality items for a better price, not the lowest quality items for a higher price? I also thought this franchise supported caring for the environment? Sad that they are deceiving their audience like this. All greed, no pride or integrity. The new manager Sam is rude, arrogant, and clueless. The new owner Marcie is an absolute nightmare of a person. Neither of them truly care for the customer experience or show respect for their staff. The rest of the employees seem kind and efficient and probably deserve much better than what this new management is doing. If you go to sell here, beware that the payouts are now less than they were under the previous ownership. They advertise that they will pay you 30-40% of their retail prices, but you can now expect about 20% in most cases thanks to the owner’s updated system. Their greed happily motivates them to lie to you. Lower payouts, yet the prices in the store haven’t become more affordable…they’ve actually mostly skyrocketed. As if all that’s not bad enough…the building is crawling with huge ROACHES!!! They have these bins of clothing on the floor in the front where they expect you to get on your hands and knees with the roaches to browse through the clothes (that probably also have roaches on them). Bizarre and gross idea. There are so many reasons to stay clear of this place.

2022-07-23The location has really improved the past two months! It’s under new management and they are more open to buying clothing now, I brought in a bag of clothes from my closet and walked away with $80. Super happy about my experience!

2022-08-07This location changed for the better!! No more obnoxious teenagers who are always on their phone but people who actually interact and talk to each other. I brought the exact same thing to sell that was turned away a couple months ago to the “not in style blah blah doesn’t conform to the middle school look 🤢🤢” and they bought them! I swear, the new management is a game changer. It’s turned to a place that I would actually bother to come and shop. This is going to change from a middle school/high school all girls shop to a place that’s actually for everyone.

2022-06-12For a while I thought about going to ask about selling clothes to the store, but that changed one day when I had other business to attend to and the entire parking lot was filled with people selling clothes in the middle of the parking lot. There was no where to park, people walking around and sitting in the middle of intersections and parking spots as well as an extremely loud speaker blasting vulgar and offensive music with children around. Why would I go to a business that has no decency in front of children and allows random patrons to block intersections and spots for other businesses. I would rather donate to goodwill and help others.

2022-01-03This will be the last time I sell anything here. I tried to sell some of my gentle used clothes here for 3 times over the past years and consistently met with disappointment. Not only the staffs were so unmotivated, bored?, sad? Every time I bring 3 bags of clothes in, they only took 1 items. My selections include all the good brands such as Zara, Free People, Pink, VS...and only one item was selected 3 times I brought here. It makes no sense since the selections at the store are mostly garbage from Forever21and wrinkle cheap t-shirts. Not worth the drive and trouble to bring it here anymore.

2022-03-06Staff looked depressed and not interested in their job. I think if someone would ask theyd say they hate their job. One staff member who helped me didnt choose anything from three bags full of clothes which included brand new branded clothes. Please dont go here and waste your time.

2021-08-17Ok, so up front: this is an honest review of my overall experience:When it comes to selling, set your expectations accordingly: this location is really looking for mostly casual, somewhat sporty, low-to-mid priced pieces. Offers are pretty fair IMO, although they took only one pair of boots from my whole bag filled with items which still had the tags. (My pieces were more dressy, hence why they declined -totally understandable) this is more or less true thrift, so plan your selling accordingly. They do give cash on the spot as well, which is a big plus.On the shopping side: don’t expect to find many designer treasures. Same as above, mostly casual day-to-day clothes, some cute bags and shoes. Perfect for the fashionista looking for a one time wear type of outfit, or the deal diva searching for the best bargain in the room. Lots of mid level brands available. Be mindful of checking condition though, I did see a few things that were pretty worn in -though they were priced fairly.Overall the staff was really friendly, answered all my questions so I could bring more appropriate stuff on the next visit. I definitely see myself coming back soon!
