Went into the store found what I needed quickly and then had to wait for the cashier. There were about four or five associates on the floor standing around with nothing to do and The only cashier was on the phone for about 10 minutes unable to check out the customers that were waiting in line. I finally left without purchasing the item.
This place is great! They have a pretty nice selection of plants and its just a breeze to get in and out of there. When buying soil you simply walk up to the cashier tell them which bags you want from the list and someone will be ready to load them into your car upon leaving. I also love supporting smaller businesses and you can definitely feel a higher level of care here compared to a big box store.
Organized, employees are very helpful. Last item we purchased was ready made cement and the employees were so helpful even lining up our 🚚.

Review for the nursery- we did not visit the hardware store or rockery. Great selection of plants and trees especially fruit trees. Everything was well maintained and healthy. Prices also seemed pretty reasonable. Always pays to shop around given lots of nurseries have similar selections and prices can vary.
I always have a positive experience here. The nursery always has healthy plants and the hardware store is like an old time hardware, they still believe in customer service and you can find a little of everything. If I have a project and have checked YouTube and still dont know what to do, I head on over to Payless Hardware and there is always an employee on staff to help me with the project. I love that they are still people friendly and I dont feel rushed or pressured while I ask questions or shop.
Not a place to go.For a regular person, the prices are same as big box stores...Customer service, poor and like 1988.. you cant take your cart into store, so if you have a few item, pots, its a circus.They ask you to pick up soil outthere..none shows up...Wide range of items but quality is average.Expert help..is not right..i asked two basic question on something i know and got wrong answer.Loading car..a small nightmare..one tiny entrance and cars everywhere.Parking lot..dangerous.. like a 3rd world country just bigger cars..trucks pulling big trailers.. lots if rock and sand..and wooden crates..wood pieces with nails..and idiots pulling on and out with no care to others..Dont go

Had the valve i needed. Had to wait quite a long time for someone to unlock case with valves. One person can only help so many people at once. I think the guy before me wanted the employee to come to his place and do the job for him.......15 million questions, but the employee seemed to have helped him and answered all of his questions.
Terrible customer service in the front end check out.. They dont greet anyone... When they finally call you to check out... Bad attitudes.. And at the end dont even bother to say thank you lol.. I understand they know business is always high but they should consider having a better attitude towards people and hire individuals that know what theyre doing cause it seems to me that no one there cares about service... I wont go back.. Seriously no one deserves to be treated like this.. Totally dont recommend ...

Went to Payless Nursery to look for California natives and drought tolerant plants. Nice selection from which to choose. Lots of other types of plants as well.
They always have an excellent selection of both landscaping and houseplants. If you like begonias, this is the ACE for you! They usually have at least 2 types other than the usual little wax begonias every garden center carries.
Great small hardware store. Needed tin snips, walked in looked on wall next to checkouts , and found them. Most small home stuff, tools, BBQs, washers, screws, etc can be found here. They typically open and close early .🙂
I love this place. We purchased sand, cobble, flagstone, and boulders from Payless. Their prices are competitive and everyone weve worked with, including cashiers, phone orders, outdoor staff and delivery driver has been friendly and professional.

They have a big selection and I agree with the others that the customer service is awful. The ladies that check you out at the counter ALWAYS have an attitude and hate life. They don’t seem to like their job whatsoever.

They have pretty much everything you need here for your home projects. The nursery is well stocked with a nice variety of plants and gardening accessories. The rockery has stone, blocks and pavers with a display. The hardware store has pretty much everything you need for indoor and outdoor projects. Customer service is friendly and helpful. Glad to have this store in the area.
One of the few nurseries ive seen with an actual humidified green house.
They have a big variety of plants. A staff member helped me find wisteria plants, and helped me select the right kind as there were options. He helped me load the heavy plant onto my cart. We also found some fruit plants wouldnt find at Home Depot. So glad I came here. I will definitely come back here for more plants.
A huge selection of building materials. We are looking to do our front yard landscaping and the number of options mean we will have to make another trip once we sort through what was available.
Their prices might be a little high but they always have what I need. I appreciate the fast customer service at the nursery and the hardware store. If you cant find it yourself they will walk with you to the item and explain what ever information you might need to know, so you actually walk out of there smarter than you walked in. Keep up the great work, youre gonna be busy when OSH is gone.

I bought three yards of planter mix from Payless Hardware and Nursery. After putting the soil most of the plants have dried. Is there any chemicals used in your soil? Because I lost so many growing plants. It is very disappointing.
We shop here quite often, always helpful with my questions. Plants are healthy and beautiful. I roam the area just for the beauty of the displays.
Not the cheapest. They have a good selection of work belts that are of great quality from B&J leather. They also have soldering supplies and good selection of air filters (for home use) and gardening equipment from the mild at heart gardener to the master arbor man. Hands down one of the best spots for summer plants. Much better than orchard. The advise I have gotten from everyone here over the years since my childhood has lead me and our family to trust them nearly blindly. We have never been steered wrong or BSed. The Grill and outdoor fire pit selection is very nice and they seem to sell more quality products than orchard. You get what you pay for here.
Payless Hardware has beautiful plants all kinds different plants. A perfect place that has everything you need for your home or backyard. Also you can pick up a trailer with concrete.
Poor customer service. I bought some bird seeds and decided to walk and look around since I have not been in the store for a long time. I happened to see an open box of bathroom light/exhaust fan and started looking at it. An employee came by and asked if I was buying it. I said no and that I was only looking at it. He assumed and blamed me for opening it. He saw another box of a bathroom exhaust fan that was also already opened and insinuated that I was also the one that opened it as well. He grabbed the two open boxes and was upset at me saying I should not be opening the boxes. Now I remembered why I go to OSH across the street when they were still in business.
Amazing large nursery with a huge variety and the rocks they sell can be very handy for when you need it. The plants all look great and well cared for but some are very very expensive.

At 5:40 on a Friday afternoon I went in at ace Payless hardware and rockery. As soon as I went in I was greater by a gentleman that found someone to show me grills. After looking at the grill I was interested on buying the gentleman offer the display or one in a box, I said thank you and told him I will come back and look for him when I was ready. Suddenly the “owner” or someone who claim to be the owner said he will not sell me the display grill and that he had no more grills in a box either and he told me to come back after the holiday to see if he would think about selling it then. Is this how this store operates?? If you go to store to buy something you should be able to buy when you need it not when they want to sell it to you.
The rockery itself is amazing with lots and lots of choices.The nursery, same. So many variety, especially with Japanese maples.Their water plants section is baby, nothing special.I saw a water iris with a few burnt leaves ($13.99 for one gallon), whatever. Ill buy it. I asked the lady at the cash register about the dying leaves and she said no worries, just pluck them off and if it goes bad, come back and we will refund you.Two weeks in, literally the entire plant is going bad. Upon inspection, the foliage has some sort of fungus growth on it (see photos). The plant has been kept dormant and not been contaminated with anything in my home because everything at home is going great!Payless will not take this item back, even after two weeks. They do not allow any returns on plants and will try to reason their way out of things. Keep this in mind especially if youre making a big purchase. BIG CORPORATE stores like Lowes and Home Depot will give you a one year warranty on trees, shrubs and perennials so although I wish I could support small businesses, this is the main reason why corporate stores are winning.Small nurseries have huge rent to pay, I understand, but certain small practices like these are a no no and in the long run, will not outcompete with big corporates. Save your time and effort. I come here very often to buy materials for my projects. Great customer service and professionalism. I would like to give a special shoutout to Mr. Ismael who took care of me when I went to go get baserock dumped on my 2020 Tundra. He quickly go off his work vehicle and made sure my bed was protected by putting blankets around it and told me he would take care of it as if the truck the was his! What a nice guy, On my second trip that same day I bought bender board and by the time I returned to my truck he had tied some red flags with strings for extra safety! All the staff in general is always professional but that day Ismael surely stood out from everyone else!Siga adelante don Ismael! I bought a yard of premixed concrete. The concrete was good. The price is little bit high. The real problem came when I return the trailer. They made me to clear the trailer all the way down to the metal. I spent good 40 min to wash, clean with my hands. They provided a brush for you to use, but the brush is so worn that it doesnt do the job. I probably would not come back again. But if I do, I will bring my power wash and power brush with me.

My toilet started leaking from the back of the tank! Yikes! I removed the lid and took a picture of the problem. I showed it to John and he knew exactly what I needed and he carefully explained to me how to do the repair. I followed his instructions and the job was done in five minutes! THANK YOU JOHN! Im glad I came to John instead of the Home Depot just down the road.
Poor customer service! The store employees openly stated because they deal with bulk products that they cant be bothered with my purchase. Unwilling to rectify a return and exchange. Kept claiming the many people who screw them and unwilling to deal with you as a customer face to face with the product and receipt in hand. Poor treatment of senior citizen. They lost all of my future business. Loss of LOTS OF PURCHASES for a county wide farming of produce and food!!

They were particularly helpful when I needed repair parts for soaker hoses, which I couldnt find anywhere else. Shopped here many times in the past three years: gravel, mulch, compost, and lots of plants. Ive been landscaping my large property and Im not a pro so their advice has been helpful.
Outrageous nursery markups! Bought a kumquat with about 18 height for $89.99. The soil came apart when removing the kumquat for planting, revealing that the actual root ball was about 1/4 the pot. I looked up the grower, Four Winds Growers, and realized I could have bought the same plant for $30, plus $7 shipping. Kumquat twice the size sells for $50 plus $10 shipping. Everybody has bills but re-potting to jack up the price that much is deceiving. With only three plant available, the selection was lousy. Wish I had used my phone to do some simple searches for comparative shopping.

This is a perfect - go to place! Its been awhile since Ive been here yet I was reacquainted quickly by the vast array of home and garden supplies!!! A full-on ACE Hardware store on the premises (you need paint, a garden umbrella, rock salt for your water softener, nuts and bolts and everything in between?), together with a spot on Rockery for ALL your landscaping needs. Not to be forgotten - a fabulous Nursery!!! Plants galour!!! With OSH closing after nearly 80 years, give Payless Hardware a visit. A short drive at Capitol Exp on King! Youll be glad to find this Gem!

We were recommended a mixture of dirt for raised garden beds that has been horrible for our plants! The dirt is so hard that the roots cannot grow! Our plants have been in the ground for 3 months and have not grown. It has been a huge waste of our time and energy trying to get these plants to grow in this dirt, let alone money we spent on the soil, plants, and water. I would not recommend their dirt to anyone! When I called to let them know, they said the formula they gave to us is what they would recommend to everyone. Dont let them fool you as well!

These people lied to me when I selected samples of ledgestone. They said I could buy a square foot of three colors, take it home, and then return it. I believed them. My contractor spent thousands of dollars picking up the one we liked best. I just returned the sample 3sqft, and they said they dont take returns. They LIED to me! I cant remember the last time I was this furious with a vendor. Now every time I look at my house I will think about those liars that provided the stone. This was one of the two rockeries my Contractor recommended. I will be asking him to remove Payless from his list.

For being on that side of town this is a good place to get supplies if youre in construction really nice people in there too I got a wide range of building supplies are all the way out there on Capitol 101 and theres not a Home Depot or anything around there Ive actually been there 3 times in a month it had things Ive needed youre a big help

This place is nice cuz you can find lots of plants you cant find in homedepot or Lowes, but one thing bothers me is that you cant return the plants if theyre dying or didnt work in your yard.

Bought a sack of rocks, 1 inch cobble stone. I brought them home and took 2 out of the sack and tried to use them in my project. They would not work. I put the 2 back in the sack and returned the next day to try and exchange my sack of rocks for another sack of lesser value. “No we don’t do refunds. No we don’t do exchanges”. I can’t use these rocks can you at least take them back so they aren’t sitting in my driveway forever doing nothing in a sack. “No we don’t do refunds. No we don’t do exchanges”. I’m not looking for anything back from you now, just take the rocks back. I want nothing from you. Keep my $10. “No we don’t do refunds. No we don’t do exchanges”. I rented a sack of rocks that stayed in the sack doing nothing with them for $10.Yes I dumped my sack of rocks back in the pile they came from on my way out of never returning here again.
I was rather disappointed. The when trying to get a 4-40 bottom tapping Tap in they didnt have any bottoming taps. Pretty sad for a hardware store

2020-01-10Lots of great variety in their nursery. Very well stocked and the staff are always willing to help, they assisted me with the plants I looked for. Also like the great selection of rocks for my landscaping project. Prices are a bit high but its all worth it.

2019-12-05Adequate nursery filled with basics. A cute little indoor green house is home to a BUNCH of cute varieties! Saw a few signs of spider mites though. Lots of baby plants. Some cacti and basic succulents. Good selection of pots. Will be back to check their indoor stock!

2022-01-21This is a smaller Ace hardware, but it usually has what I go on for, and I always walk out with more than planned. Staff are helpful when asked, but dont hover over me insisting on helping. The garden center is on the other side of the parking lot, and is wonderful. I have not had occasion to use the rockery, but its fun to look at.

2022-02-01Its an all in one shopping experience for those needing landscaping materials and plants...I am in the industry so I got a good discount. Would have loved to check out the hardware store but stayed in nursery for far too long. Very surprised by seeing flagstone and rocks and bulk materials on site! Very nice staff.

I’ve been coming here over the years and have relied in their knowledge and advice.They also have a nice selection of gifts for the yard and walls and attentive customer service as I was offered tissue and bags for various gifts!Highly recommend them!

2019-04-28The place is lovely. The people are very knowledgeable however it seems like your bothering them every time you try to approach them. Around this time they are more well staffed than usual so that’s good. Their tillandsia (air plant) selection is awesome. I’ve personally bought a sundew, dragon plant, peace lily (which has flowered!) and an Iontha Airplant from here that is nicely blushed. Their prices are reasonable but on the high side. Otherwise everything here is great. Their hardware and rockery has a nice selection as-well.

2022-02-19The attentiveness to detail, and customer service is what brings us back to this place. I recall shopping at this place 40 years ago with my father, it hasnt changed much. Great job all!

2017-12-19Wow, this place has everything you could possibly need for a beautiful garden! Such a nice, impressive collection, and their staff is super friendly and knowledgeable too. I wish I could keep plants alive long enough to take advantage of such a store more often.
