Very good tamales got me out of a bind back at Christmas time. Always good prices and has everything you need.
This place few years ago was Chula vista favorite for great Mexican food and other Latino products but lately things has change dramatically with poor quality poor customer service and hig prices.

Love this market. Its always clean, follows safety precaution measures for covid, well stocked and smells good from all the cooked meals for take-out. Staff is also friendly and helpful. Produce and meats are fresh. Ive never had problems with anything purchased. Only negative remark is parking can be a challenge depending upon time of day, otherwise Im happy with Northgate.
Nice Mexican grocery store. Large selection of hot ready to go dinner options. Nice big bakery selection. The produce could use some improvements there were flies all over some of the fruits and veggies.
Overall its a clean place for shopping, they need to work on Customer Service and long long lines for cashiers it is a no no.. I cant wait 15 to pay just a few items. They need more personal.
I love northgate. Whenever we need fresh chips, tortillas, or salsa for a barbecue I try to get down there. However, it’s pretty far from western Chula Vista and I’m racking my brain as to why they won’t open up another location in the empty Albertsons building in Rolling Hills Ranch. I know we would shop at a store closer to home than we do right now.
I love this place! Its authentic as the Mexican markets in Mexico, only better since you dont have to leave the country! Anything you need they have it. Bakery, butcher shop, totilleria, produce and any Mexican specialty you might need is right here! By the way, the staff are always warm friendly and ready to help.
Absolutely thrilled to see the selection of vegetables, meats, tamales, ready-food, which is delicious. Prices are more reasonable than the average supermarket or Grocery store.

The fruit and veggies station good get a better clean the raspberries and strawberries had mold I advised the manager and she said they had already taken care of that issue. The next day I arrived and the same berries were there.
Well I am an individual with challenges but nevertheless have I given up hope finding a comfortable environment that has some authentic mexican food, large variety of choices in hot and ready for order of mexican food. Dont get me wrong, Im able to buy the ingredients to make my own dish, yet sometimes I would rather take it easy and get the food that I want to enjoy but freshly cooked prepared and take it to go. As a matter of fact I just received an opportunity for an interview for this morning, I feel they could use a talented gentleman like myself that is a great and outstanding customer service representative that has English as my primary language. Food is overpriced and not very good honestly. Was going to get some of their pan dulce but the bread was really hard. Their agua frescas texture is too thick. I had gotten a half pound of barbacoa for $10 & it was very tough meat. Not tender at all.

Want a great lite dinner? Go here and get a whole bunch of ceviche, along with a bag of crispy tostadas. Get several different kinds. You cant go wrong. Dont forget the yummy salsas! Wash it all down with some Negra Modelo beers. Finish the evening with a nice cup of hot green tea and some wonderful pan dulce from the panaderia. Isnt life wonderful?
Walked into northgate grocery store in chula Vista ca, first impression!! Awful smell emanating from the meat department,definitely rotten meat or something like that,continue shopping for baked goods,unkempt store,wondering why the health department have not shut down this establishment,incredible.

Nicely stocked market if youre looking for Hispanic food items. Lots of Central American selection. Its well organized and traffic is well controlled especially if youre concerned about social distancing. This is our favorite Northgate market in San Diego.
Very organized. Theres an employee at the door, he ask me if i was going to buy meat? I said yes give me a number. And straight to the meat deparment. They disinfect the baskets and carts at the door. When you are ready to pay, another employee directed me to a cashier. Very good job on keeping customers safe. Great job Northgate.
The store has a great quality on foods, just a lack of service. Explain how youre gonna have a one line open when you have about 10 people standing in line when they just can open at least another line for a faster service
Cashiers are hit or miss, decent prices as they get. Good hot food, and loafs are usually a good crunchy. The fresh juices are good too. My go-to drink for here will always be Pineapple Aloe Juice.
Went to buy some carnitas and chicharrón en salsa verde, & man I was so disappointed. Carnitas we so dry and hard that’s from reheating them over and over (they were not fresh) the chicharrón en salsa verde was disgusting, no flavor, and just awful. I would avoid this places hot food.

I love this supermarket. Their produce section is well maintained. Priced reasonable and fresh. Meat is fresh too and has good prices. Although they have some organic brand food, I wish the selection was better. Eureka brand bread would be good. I hate going to Walmart to get it. Need more food items with no soy, no peanuts or seeds... Then it would be perfect

Today I went to Northgate market. I bought 2 Lbs of Ceviche & 1 Lb of Aguachile. The girl who attended me provided great customer service. She was very attentive when I was placing my order. I got a good a portion when my containers were filled. It was pretty expensive but of course the mariscos were tasty & delicious. The gentleman who rang me up at the register provided great customer service as well. He always does his job correct. Thank you to all staff at this Northgate location. Keep up the good work and stay well. Thank you.
Above average selection of Latino staples. The deli selection is great. I knocked off a star because they were out of chicken wings.

Waited in a long line for 10+ minutes just told to be told I have 1 item extra then the 10 allowed for this line. Kinda annoying when you can’t just scan an extra item.
My favorite place to get seafood cocktails. I ditch going to a restaurant anytime for Northgate ceviches and aguachiles. They have a variety, spicy, medium hot and non- spicy. Depending on the mood, Id get the least or more spicy or you can also ask for half and half on the ceviches. You can also ask foe a sample if youre unsure which one to get. Green aguachile (I cut up extra cucumber) and fish ceviche are my faves. Remember to get tostadas or saltines and mayo;)
So, this memorial day, i went to this place to buy some groceries to celebrate the memorial day,so i ended up buying a cake for my wife since her birthday is today. The cake was so old, that it didnt even have taste. Cake was stiff. Torally a disaster. Thank u northgate for screwed my celebration. Even the arroz con leche taste so nasty. Never will buy from this place again.

Northgate is a wonderful store. Items properly labeled, easy to locate & are priced well. They have an amazing meat, seafood, dept. Their hot food station has great quality foods. Love to shop here.
I love giving my advice to you all, northgate is a great food store to go buy your groceries, they have great products, good prices, delicious corn tortillas, bread, however, food made in there isnt as great as it looks, I bought the carnitas package which comes with a side of beans, rice, few tortillas and 2 cups of salsa, but I didnt enjoy my purchase since the customer service wasnt the best, Idk why but this man was mad or something and didnt answer my questions, and just gave me whatever he wanted (Im paying foo, dont be like that), so I ended up with horrible carnitas, taste was ok, but they felt like a rock, or something, carnitas were burned lol
When you walk in here there are shopping carts that have rusted metal and the plastic yellow ones are super dirty. Clean them plz! Prices are not competitive. Cashiers take there time, and are always 2 or 3 available, am always waiting minimum 10-15! Thats a long time! I liked this store when it was North Gate market!

Treat you like a kid, power hungry lady. My mask slid down a bit uncovering my nose and lady comes from front door to tell me to lift my mask. I was getting some delicious carnitas.
Went into the breakfast bar at 730 and there was very little selection. Got what I needed and asked for flour tortillas (not 4 corn) the lady had no idea what flour tortillas were) and kept pointing to the register. There was a woman who was speaking to another guy in Spanish (which I understood and she figured out). Ended up with my one tortilla. But left to get my coffee and had to dump half out because they were out of kids and I don’t have them lying around in my car.
If you like ready to eat food Mexican style to take home, this is the place to get it.
Probably the manager dont notice they have a competitor a few stress down, because the food is super spicy, you cant taste because the chile, aguas frescas are only water.Try to compae between norgathet and carnival supermarket, you definitely change your mind.Personnel are nice and polite, and you can find Mexican products. And a few for another country.It was one of my favorite supermarket, but now not.Prices are higher.

Went this morning! To ask about specials that they are posting in web page: Total lie $14.99 taquiza deal is not what is posted, the meat is raw! They post it cooked! Two stars only to the two workers that were very helpful one lady in the ready food area!💕she knows the deals! And another star to the guy that was very friendly and got me peanut butter but the cashier ; one unfriendly woman, did not greeted me or thank me for my buy! The woman was the cashier with dye blonde hair!
It was a relaxed place to shop. The meat department personal was very helpful and attentive with me and another customers. The cashier was fast and professional.. All was good.. Store was clean and well organized and the stuff was friendly with the customers.

This one star it goes to this product Tamal de Puerco it was super dried and not tasty at all, need some real flavor at least put flavor on the masa 🤦🏻♂️.Cant believe that the american stores are picking up on their gane, better quality and service, Latinos stores and restaurants are putting their hands down.

Almost always a crowded parking lot...and extremely difficulty to get in and out. The upside to this market is that it offers authentic Mexican food and fresh produce. A little pricey, but overall a decent place to shop.
The young lady cashier with cute braids was not friendly, she got upset because the tag to scan the barcode on the two orchids we bought was hard to reach and blame on us. We didnt put them there, we dont work in the store! 🙁
Almost a carnival atmosphere I always enjoy going shopping here. Jugos and tamales are just an extra added bonus. The meat department is a revaluation to behold.

Horrible place to shop. One thing .the cashiers dont speak English and I end up having to take back food items m they are rude to me because they dont know English. Second thing is they had red meat blood spilled all over the chicken . The shelves are sticky and nasty. The butchers are rude. My experience there is horrible every time I shop there.Never again..

Be extremely careful when buying the chicken. I have got sick twice already. It can go bad in 2 days if not cooked quickly. It also may be bad upon buying it. Be sure to smell it, if it smells a little funny, don’t buy It and let the manager know.

Walked into the store and past the plants and flowers to discover aphids everywhere along with other flying bugs. Next to that section is the produce. Absolutely disgusting. There was a person even working in the plant section and not paying any attention.
I went in to get some tamales and they where okay, my favorite one was the chicken and elote. Their ress tanales where too dry. I also got some agua fresca and they are all good
Poor customer service and too expensive. Most of employees dont speak English well. They think everybody speaks Spanish. No diversity in this store. All employees are Latinos or Mexicans. They dont hire other races. Come on! We live in the United States of America, not Mexico!

Okay so if you dont feel like cooking pump over to Northgate in Chula Vista because they have so much food hot and ready to go that you just need to get it weighed and youre on your way. There is carnitas, chiles, rellenos, tamales, salsa, guacamole, meat dishes, aguas frescas....and a full Bakery.
I dont work to far but I just walked to north gate food carneceria place and was craving a torta. So of course its busy and I take a number and wait a few mins which is fine. Then when the employee helps me I ask for a torta de Hamon and he says they dont have any. I point to the menu and say why advertise it? Thats false advertisement!!!! He puts it on his manager and says he is not in charge of the signs. I ask for manager and he said that he is not in he left. So I then ask for supervisor and then the employee goes and removes the price of it and puts foil paper on picture of torta de Hamon. I ask do you have any Tortas at all?? The employee says well we sell Tortas, but dont have any now because we dont have the ingredients for it??? Wow how crazy is that NORTHGATE is a supermarket with all types of ingredients very ridiculous!!! You just lost my service!

I arrived about an hour and half before noon, so the market wasnt so busy. I had to purchase a few items for a spaghetti dinner and while their, snached a few snacks to get me to lunch. I was in & out in less than 40 mins.

Send money to anywhere in the world thru Prospera Gonzalez. Also, you can stop by and get your taxes done with H&R Block. Or Ask to get a free insurance quote thru Mapfre Insurance Company. All these services inside you local market.

2022-06-08I’ve been to both the 43rd street and National city location. Both are clean stores that offer great tasting and fresh food. The produce could use some help but I think that’s been the situation with all grocery stores for some time now. They offer curb side delivery too.

2022-05-10Northgate is remarkable because it has all the stuff you need to make some delicious Mexican food. In particular, this store is great because it has a food court where you can get lunch or dinner on the go. The staff is super helpful and keep the place looking super clean.

I asked this dude where the cereals were, he had to voice in store manager and it took 3 employees to let me know to go to aisle 4.

2020-12-20Visiting Chula Vista. This Mercado-style is reminiscent of my hometown of El Paso, TX! Customer service is excellent andeverything is fresh! Walking into the store, I smelled the wonderful aroma of fresh Menudo so I had to take a look. It looked amazing! I ended up buying the Menudo and grabbed regular staple items like tortillas and tostadas. The were so awesome to freshly chop up the fixins for the Menudo. I strongly recommend this place for a genuine, authentic Mexican fare.

2017-04-05This is a great place to find Mexican food, this is amazing. There is so much good food, a lot of Mexican products. Clean place, nice costumer service. Love this place. Tortillas are nice and warm.
