This is a place I havent been to in over a year, family and friends went here often especially after church. The atmosphere was the same, quite (even with children), lots of tables, because our party was so many, even the larges table would not accommodate us, and we didnt want to be squeezed in, so they were just so very, very nice to give us the other large table so we sat next to one another.
I love love love Happy Garden! They serve dim sum all day and excellent dim sum at that! My family and I have been coming here for years now. Their fried glutinous rice dumplings/ham sui gok (football) are my favorite dish. Their melonpan (melon bread) are fantastic as well!
The best chinese food ever. there is a dim sum menu for more traditional chinese food and a basic menu for the chinese american classics. if you want tea ask for it first so it has time to steap and its not just hot water but once it does its so good. me and my boyfriend got a bunch of stuff but the highlghts are the lemon chicken. it was so good it was so crispy and flavorful. but my favorite was the bbq pork chow mein. i dont even know how to tell you how much i loved this chow mein it was sausey but not soupy and the veg was cooked but crisp and it was just amazing. and the lady is very nice and brings everything out on a cart as it gets done. so not everything comes out at the same time but its okay. it gives you time to try everything as it comes out.
First class restaurant!New Happy Garden not only has an amazing menu, its extremely spacious inside. The atmosphere is comforting and with seating that accommodates single eaters up to tables for 8, its a great place to bring your friends or to come to enjoy a family dinner. The food tastes even better than it looks. The flavors are savory and float on your palette from subtle to complex. I enjoyed one of their dinner plates with three picks and which comes with soup and an egg roll. Even their house tea is perfectly blended with a rosy color and served at peak temperature. By far the best Chinese food in Sacramento. The pricing is also friendly and will average about $15 a plate.
Saw this place on my way home and thought I’ll give it a try the next morning. We got there and got 4 items from their cart and didn’t want to eat much because we were waiting for new items to try . We waited for an hour and every cart that came out is the same old 5 items for the past 1 hours . .. not sure if they even cook anything different compare to other restaurants, I see more options. Was very disappointed and will never go back again. Btw not sure if it’s a different owner but it doesn’t look like the picture shown on their page .
Well deserved 5 stars food is great and service is great. Hong is my girl she’s awesome. between her, the great customer service, and the food it’s hard Not to come back when passing by you gotta stop in.Shrimp dumplings and shrimp ball for the winAnd don’t forget to sayHello to Hong
Egg fu yung was really good and the portions were generous. The woman who took my order was very polite and even sold me some rice in addition to the egg fu yung( I was gonna spend $8.00 at most).I asked hrr if the gravy was brown and it was but it was a bit thin for me but it wasnt over saltyI ordered food as promised and Ended up leaving half of it at someones house.Got news that my sick sister had been taken off meds and they were keeping her comfy, called happy garden and asked for an accommodation to have my order ready at 10 a.m. due to the fact that my flight leaves at 12: 00 tomorrow. After expressing i was going reasons of bereavement, I was told sorry see you when you get back. NO YOU WONT.Why????Because I chose them out of the hundreds or should I say thousands of places that I could have chosen To be my comfort during this time of bereavement and I have all of the paperwork to proveand back up my words. What a pity.Best egg fu yung so far. Ill keep looking
I always get the family meal deal. The only complaint I have is that they usually give us the hot and spicy soup which isnt MY favorite but my boyfriend loves it. The food always has a great taste. This time I even got their bbq pork buns, which have a really great flavor. All in all, this place is super quick, really good and friendly service.
This is one of the best restaurants in Sacramento...the food is delicious and fresh! I have to say service takes a minute, feels like Hawaii time so get there before youre starving! It is worth the wait. Excellent quality. The restaurant is like a beautiful ballroom inside. You could have a very nice wedding or party there! It looks like an old strip mall from the outside so you would never know if you didnt go in!***the outside has been updated along with the mall, stop in for a great meal!
Stopped by for Dim Sum as we were in town for an ultrasound. The first place we had in mind was closed and so we chose to come here. We loved it!! Much better than the first dim sum place we were originally going to! When we first showed up (around 3:30pm), the place was empty, minus one other Chinese couple. We didnt see the usual dim sum carts rolling around and wasnt sure whether the place was even serving food or if they were closing. However, Im glad we sat down and asked about the dim sum because they still serve it to you on a separate menu. The food was fresh. Everything we ordered was fantastic and very flavorful. It was quick, hot, and delicious. They have a bunch of fresh crab and lobster by the kitchen as well, which makes me want to come back for some seafood! They have a huge variety of dishes on their menu for Chinese. And to top it all off, the staff was very nice, very helpful, and made the place feel very welcoming. We cant wait to come back for more. Already back home and am wishing we had some leftovers.
One of the best dim sum restaurants in Sacramento. This is the primary place my family goes for dim sum. The staff is attentive and friendly. Half the time we go there, the owner will come and talk to us. Very family friendly and accommodating for large groups. Great selection of foods.
Can’t believe this place has such a good rating. Food was NOT good. Lemon chicken tasted old and gross another dish had a very unappealing sauce. Nice big facility but it had an old musty smell inside. I wanted lo mein but the lady on the phone couldn’t understand what I was asking for. This was an expensive lesson learned to never come here again.
This is my favorite dim sum place in the area. They have the traditional stream tables and carts on wheels and there are lots of Asian faces eating happily. They dont use MSG and the food is tasty. They serve dim sum into the afternoon but its best to get there no later than 12:30 or so as the crowd is mostly gone by 1:00 or so and the food wont be as fresh.
Saying this from personal experience, the staff works very hard. My mom is one on waitresses and while she isnt good at english, she always smiles and tries her best. Whenever I go to the restaurant to give my mom something, the staff are always nice to me, notifying my mom Im here. While Im not a fan of chinese food even thought I am chinese, the place is pretty good.
New Happy Garden gets 5 stars purely for their dim sum. In my opinion its the best place for dim sum in Sacramento. They have a huge selection and the food is always delicious. I cannot speak to their other dishes. I have only come here for dim sum. But if you want tasty dishes, fast and efficient service and a large variety, you cannot go wrong here.
So this was a really good restaurant I mean dont get me wrong the reason why I didnt get 5 stars is because they could have done a little bit of a better job when it comes to serving drinks I mean thats the only thing here the food was delicious they need to work on their salt and pepper chicken theres not much taste to it just fried meat with you know bell peppers and chili on the side the Mongolian chicken was bomb definitely need to eat it we also ordered fried rice which was amazing the peaking spare ribs were ok could give more of a portion for the price.we used to go here a lot then we stop cuz the food didnt taste as good but ever since I think they got new owners the food was amazing definitely coming back
Honestly my sister has been recommending this place to me for many and many of years. Its very far out of our way to go but one day I had to drive past Sacramento with my sister and she told me that we absolutely have to go here and for me to try it out. I finally conceded and said yes. I was always told that it was really made for weddings to be hold and that the food was for catering. But I guess that was all too true. They do sometimes have weddings here, but its very rare and it will become private. But when they arent having a wedding, they are able to serve many and many of tables if they pleased because of how big the building is and with how many tables they have. But when its open as a restaurant almost nobody is there. And the food oh my God, it was to die for. Especially for the price. Soup of the day was my favorite in all of existence. Hot and sour soup, and I feel they nailed it perfectly. Huge lunch plates for incredible price. I had the sweet and sour pork with brown rice and eggs and the sour soup. And it filled me up till the next day. I wish this place was closer honestly it was soooo good. Sorry for long review, hope this atleast makes one person wanna go there and give it a try. If you do like this review please, I wanna know.
Sisters that manage this fine establishment are truly what make this restaurant work like a fine watch! Food is most excellent, service is great for such a large restaurant, and the cooking staff really knows what its doing!IMHO, one of the best Chinese Restaurants in Sacramento!!
Food is good but the dim sum has really gone down in terms of variety. Slow service but a large facility so the wait to get seated is virtually none. Used to be our favorite place for dim sum but because of our last few experience there, it has gone down hill. Hoping it gets better so we can come back more often.
I was expecting this place to be great and it was just alright. Came here on a Sunday around 11 am and business seemed very slow. The food was ok, but nothing special. I would probably come here again when I have a dim sum craving, but I doubt it would be anytime soon.
Less crowded than the neighboring dim sum palace, this place delivers good quality dim sum etc for brunch. But heres their dish I like the most: their House Special HK style crispy chow mein. In Chinese: 招牌港式煎面. The noodles are both crispy and partly submerged in a sauce, as they should be, with lots of toppings of veggies, meat and seafood. Order it!
I have seen the kitchen and i dont know how or why the inspectors give this place a passing score. Must be some money exchanging. I ate some sweet and sour shrimp with some of their rice. Next day my face looked like i had a softball in mouth. Abscessed tooth as a result of eat their food. I have done work for this place and just from seeimg their kitchen I rarely eat out anymore.
Pluses: lots of free parking, lots of pleasant staff, traditional dim sum fare, prices are moderate, large dining area for parties and see an upper floor that could be available for private parties. Fav dishes on this trip: hom suri gok , fried stuffed tofu and hot silken tofu.
The New Happy Garden is by far one of the best Chinese seafood restaurants in Sacramento. It is run by the same family that owned the Ocean King on Stockton Blvd. Our family have been dinning at Ocean King for years!! We were always happy with our meals. Our favorite dishes are: Salt and pepper fried calamari, boiled shrimps, steamed black bass with ginger and scallion, steamed Dungeness crab, lobster in black bean sauce, chinese mustard green in ham sauce. For dessert, try the chinese mango pudding with evaporated milk, silky, delicious, yummy!!

2022-04-19Food excellent. Atmosphere poor. Windows filthy. No complaints about the food. Everything we’ve tried so far is fantastic. The restaurant is a huge banquet room so intimacy for two people dining is nonexistent. Also, wall of windows on west side of this establishment needs washing on a regular basis. They are dusty with lots of graffiti and fingerprints. Dirtiness best seen in the late afternoon when the sun is shining into the restaurant.

2022-02-20Nice restaurant, food came fast, hot, and delicious. Friendly people.Cons: they dont really have a server for your needs besides giving you food. You have to go to the cashier wait in line and pay yourself. The outside parking lot has been on renovation for months now. Very annoying as different paths are blocked.

2022-01-18My family and I were extremely disappointed in the customer service. We came at open, knowing that we had a big group of 18. When we told the waitress the size of our party, she was annoyed with us. She had us move four tables together and continued to complain about how big our party was.We did not get the “dim sum” experience like the smaller tables around us. They made us order all our food at once and was inconsistent about when they brought it out, most of our order came at the very end.The food was also inconsistent in temperature. The bill came out to be about $600. The food was less than mediocre and the customer service terrible. In the back, next to the bathrooms, was this big jug of what looked like the chilly oil that they serve, covered with a plastic bag. This is extremely questionable and unsanitary. The was no excuses for the lack cleanliness of the place, especially during these times of covid.

2021-10-02I knocked out 1 star because of communication barrier. The hot tea is Luke warm. We asked for a really hot one. We ordered separate to go aside from what we ate. They got confused and charged my order to go twice. The positive things I have to say I that the food is really delicious. Huge place and great for social distancing. The curtains are pretty that matches the chandelier with more white drapes over the ceiling. They have a huge banquet area aside from the huge area where we ate.I recommend this place, but be patient because of language barrier. If you pay at the front, theres no money in the cash register. Go to the back and pay direct. Keep an eye on your receipt otherwise, they might double charge.

2022-05-29Im so pleased with the staff and quality of food at this banquet hall. Yesterday we celebrated my brother in laws wedding. My family has many dangerous allergies, and the staff was extremely attentive to our dietary needs and was very kind. The food was incredible. I highly recommend!

2021-10-04Excellent dimsum. Good variety. Reasonable prices. This piece is spanking new as only half the space is operating and the parking lot is yet to be finished. Not sure where the other photos come about but only the plastic yellow loop steam cage for dimsum were matching what I saw. Chicken feet- from jau, shrimp dumpling-har gau, steam rice roll with shrimp- ha churn, xi mai, baked crusty bun- ball law bao, baked bbq pork bun- char xi bao, all very good. Service a bit cyclical as periods of outstanding then periods of no server around happened throughout the hour long visit. The catch is tea. No choice. Tea or water. No variety offered for tea. Not a very good tea blend. Red tea at a stable tea bag dispatch. Each pot is a fresh tea bag and they are served in batches.

2021-06-30The food here is amazing! Lots of space and tables, perfect for big or small families and lots of yummy foods. They serve you free tea before your meal and the wait for food isnt long. They bring out the food when theyre ready so its like a train of constant food coming to you and replacing the finished food with more fresh hot food! Definitely recommend! (I only took one photo because I could resist eating!)😋

2022-08-08Happy Garden will really make you happy. They renovated this restaurant where it has an aura of friendliness and clean. Foods presentation are the same as before but looks cleaner. Food is great and tasted good to our satisfaction. Big improvement.
