Best place to have a panoramic view of the city and the Pacific. Name and pictures of the Veterans who have fallen during WWI, WWII and korean wars are displayed on the walls of this memorial site. There are some hike trails around that you can enjoy with friends and family.
Im glad we heard about this place as it has an amazing view. We first heard about it on a kayak tour as you could see the cross up on the mountaintop. We took the trip up here and were able to get a 360 view of San Diego and beyond. We heard you can even see Mexico, although thats pretty far off. This is actually a National Veterans Memorial which we didnt know about at first. An amazing way to honor our veterans, but also a nice park where you can feel a cool breeze and view the city.
Beautiful panoramic views of the city. Worth the drive. The way we drove on the way up was an easy drive. We were making fun of the reviewer saying your car should be in working order before the drive. Lol. The drive down must have been what she was referring to, a little steeper.
Every person, young and old, should visit this memorial. There are so many inspiring stories of men and women who protected our freedom. I loved how this memorial honors all the people who served in the armed services. You can see stories from living and deceased veterans. Definitely worth the visit!
Simply one of the best places to visit in San Diego, youll be delighted with the great views. Best time to see the great sunset 🌇 is on clear days🏙 without the maritime clouds. Give yourself at least 30-45 minutes prior to sunset to enjoy the views and to give a Salute to our Veterans at this solace memorial🇺🇸 . Im quite sure the sunrise views are also good, but I have yet to make a morning visit. Enjoy your visit...Viva La Vida & Salud Amigos!BTW...dont be alarmed if your car has issues locking or if not unlocking, radio waves from the nearby radio towers may interfere with your key fob.
Mount Soledad, also known as Soledad Mountain, is a prominent landmark in the city of San Diego, California, United States. The mountaintop is the site of the Mount Soledad Cross, the subject of a 25-year controversy over the involvement of religion in government which concluded in 2016The 823-foot (251 m) mountain[1] lies between Interstate 5 to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It is mostly within the community of La Jolla where the northern and eastern slopes form a sharp escarpment along the Rose Canyon fault. The community of Pacific Beach is on the gentler southern slope. There are several radio and television transmitters located on the summit including KFMB-TV and KGTV, the CBS and ABC affiliates respectively. Commercial aircraft approaching San Diego from the direction of Los Angeles often use Mount Soledad as their point to start the downwind leg of their approach to San Diego International Airport
This memorial is a very well done tribute to past and present veterans. There are wonderful photo placards and stories to read about the veterans. The view is stunning, just epic. You can see all of San Diego, the bay, LA Jolla, the pier, the Coronado Bridge, the Marine Corps base, and the Navy ships. There are trails you can hike down and so many beautiful areas to see.
Amazing place, especially for the 360 degree views of san diego, beach, pier, downtown, roads... Very beautiful, extremely well preserved. There are two parking lots one on the top, with not too many (20?) and one overfill below. The cross statue is nice and the memorial too. Overall great place.
One of the last greatest memorials standing. It hurts me, that humanity would attempt to tear it down. Its our memorial to our family members who served our Country. This is one of the best views in all of San Diego. Great place to pay respects as well as to meditate. Or maybe you need a break from people and enjoy the view. We live life so fast. We forget to stop and enjoy what the universe has given us! R.I.P to the men in Uniform.
This spot is worth a visit if you have the time. Beautiful monument to veterans. Unlike most of these types of things, live veterans are included. All branches of service are represented, and we found plaques for people who served going all the way back to the Revolutionary War. The views are also spectacular, so make sure you go on a clear day!
This is a must and the first place we take out of town visitors. Gives them a bearing of where they are, with views in every direction...go on a sunny day. Most cities would charge a lot of $$ for access to these views, but Mount Soledad is free! Good amount of free parking too. We usually spend 20 minutes here. The drive up through La Jolla alone is fun for the gorgeous homes on the hill. This is worth your time.
Such an amazing place to visit. It had been over 30 years since I had been there. They have done a great job to build a truly fitting place to honor our brave soldiers. I loved reading the plaques of all the great stories and their bravery. On a sunny day, the view of San Diego is amazing.
This is a beautiful place to get some fresh air and enjoy the wonderful 360° views San Diego has to offer! Its a memorial park dedicated to the veterans. This is a good place to relax, take pictures, and to have quality time with friends or loved ones. If you havent been here please plan to do so!
I always enjoy going here, you could see most of all of San Diego here! Its also a place to see and learn about those we died for our freedom and country. This place will always be in top 10. Its just beautiful, somethings you cant find words to explain! This place is one of them. If your really spontaneous, take a ride around the neighborhood and check out the beautiful houses!! Its gorgeous up there, but be respectful and considerate of the locals.
With a gorgeous view of the city and stunningly amazing cross, Mt. Soledad National Veteran’s Memorial has beautiful “pictures” etched in granite to which one can pay homage and respect. Sit on the steps and snap a photo, or just have some reflection time. It can get kind of touristy, but if you want to stay awhile, there is some parking up top, and benches around the perimeter.
If you ever came down to La Jolla area in San Diego make sure you stop by and visit this beautiful Veterans Memorial. It located high up on the hill, surrounded by the residential areas, you could see the beauty of this place. In front of you, there is the shoreline that runs north to La, right behind you the mountain and houses. This memorial was established on Dec 6, 2000, by privately own. The pictures of the American heroes from WW1 to Vietnam war were all placed on the walls at this place. You could also be yourself to enjoy the views or just be curious it’s ok too. Just come by and see also the UCSD was a couple of miles away.
A place to learn history and remember US heroes, the sights are amazing, go in a clear day to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view. There are benches to sit. Be aware, I found my historic doppelganger heroe at this place. Portable restrooms at the place, so be prepared before leaving your home or hotel.
A unique tribute to living and deceased veterans from all United States conflicts.Mt. Soledad has the best overview of San Diego, displaying La Jolla, Point Loma, Downtown and Coronado. On a clear day, you can see all the way to San Clemente Island and Mexico. This is one of the best spots to have a sack lunch with a view and honor the soldiers who have bravely served our country.
What a view on San Diego surrounding. We were there on a clear sky day and were able to see up to Mexico! The view us simply breath taking. No picture could do justice to it. Parking is free. We were able to park wright on top, but there is a lot of parking just before (2 minutes walk)
This is hands down the BEST view spot in All of San Diego ! On a clear day you get a fantastic look at : downtown SD / harbor, entire Mission Bay, inland and a look at the coast - Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach and La Jolla. Plus the nice war manorial at the impressive cross. You wont regret coming there.
Free attraction in the San Diego area. Simple free parking. Excellent views of the ocean, and downtown San Diego... 360 degree views. The memorial itself is extremely well done, very informative and respectful. This is a must visit location in San Diego if you have a half hour or so to enjoy it.
This is a very beautiful monument to visit, displaying a fantastic view of La Jolla beaches, MCAS Miramar, Downtown SD, as well as many other notable landmarks in San Diego. Its completely free to visit, however there is not much parking onsite, but pleanty of parking not far from the monument.
Nice views of San Diego. A lot of benches to sit on if you want to relax and enjoy the view for a few minutes. They have hand washing stations and portable restrooms. Its Sunday and theres a lot of overcast. It was still busy with a lot of people but everyone was moving and able to practice social distancing.
This is such a humbling place. First off, the views of San Diego are unreal. You can see everything from La Jolla to Mission Bay, Downtown to Miramar. Second, the memorial plaques are amazing; unlike any we’ve seen before. Such an amazing way to honour service members and their accolades. Definitely worth a visit to take in the views and pay your respects.
Mt. Soledad is simply fantastic. Its a great place to go even if it isnt the obvious tourist destination. I recommend going right before dusk, because seeing the sunset from here is an amazing experience. The memorial itself is very nice and a great tribute to those who lost their lives. Theres a couple short trails branching out from the Mt. that make for great photo spots. Theres also usually an ice cream vendor here!
Mt. Soledad is a great place for me to go when I want to Praise and Worship God, pay silent Honor to the men and women of our military. Or just simply sit back and reflect on life. The view can humble you as you stand on the mountaintop and look out over the ocean until it meets the sky. Its an amazing reality check for me.
Love to come here and enjoy some peaceful time overlooking San Diego. At the same time its a great place to remember what our country is about, great and courageous people that have sacrificed their lives for us protecting our country, serving for what they believe its right. A big salute & Thank you to all our Service Members and their families!
Great views of San Diego from 800+ feet above sea level. The veterans memorial contains dedications, photos and biographies of great men and women.Even in summer, a light windbreaker or sweater might be a good idea to bring along, especially in the morning or evening. Some grassy areas, benches and a good number of parking spots though the majority of them are in a lot a few yards away. Its surrounded by a residential area so nothing close by if youre hungry. Also, if you hear nature calling and you need a restroom the park only has portable toilets. For walkers and hikers its a great destination or starting point. Hardcore bicyclists will find the great vistas up here a great reward for their cardio workout.
If you want the absolute best views of San Diego and La Jolla then this is a stop that should not be missed. More than just a moving memorial for those of the La Jolla area that have died in all wars and squermishes since the 1800s, it is a 360 viewpoint in a walk around park setting. You can drive or bike up to this great spot for the ocean, Torrey Pines and city views. This is a spot NOT to be missed.
It was really beautiful. I love the memorials for all the veterans who have served. You can see which medals they earned, as well as which couples ahve served in the military together!♡ Its crazy how many purple hearts you see! You can feel the bravery and valor just by looking at the pictues! Great view and lots of parking. Dog friendly too! You can see La Jolla, Downtown, the freeways all on top of Mt. Soledad 😀
Views are out amazing...I was there in a clear day ..and if you know where to look you can see el carro colorado in tijuana (looking south east a mountain whit a big whit spot near the top,,, looking south you will see cerrone de la Mesa ( big flat mountain near Rosario beach
Wonderful tribute to veterans of all conflicts and all branches of service. Good to see female veterans. Veteran plaques can be purchased or a donation can be given for the upkeep of the memorial. Fantastic view of almost 360 degrees of the San Diego coast, skyline, North Island, 32nd Street Naval Station, and more.
This is a beautiful place to really take in San Diego and its tribute to military personnel . The memorial honors active, retired, and deceased veterans from all different wars. The view from the top allows you to get a 365 view. Very peaceful and great place to take others. Parking is free (2 small lots, one at the top near the memorial and one just a little further below with a slight hill incline walk).
Best vantage point for great views and reflections of those who served and defended our freedoms. Beautiful drive to the monument and enjoyable grassy space for picnics and relaxing. We try to make it once a year for Memorial or Veterans Day and appreciate those honored in such a scenic location.

2022-01-15Mt Soledad is a San Diego gem, where you can see the whole skyline (often to 90 miles) in each direction. Great for a picnic or those who love a good view. Or sunset/sunrise.I think the cross/memorial itself is technically private property. It is iconic. I am not much of a military person, but I do know its been good for my kids to see and wonder about those who are represented there--good discussion starter. Last time we were there, people were blowing huge bubbles for visitors to play in before they blew off the mountain.

2022-06-14It’s a nice place to give respect and reminisce military loved ones. There also a short trail to hike at the side of the memorial. Trail is steep, not marked, should wear hiking shoes and be careful on loose rocks and dirt.

2021-12-26Beautiful place for tourists with a 360 view of San Diego. A place of honor and respect for the veterans. Please be mindful of the value this place has for the heroes of USA, this is a privately owned property. Showing our respect and being grateful is the least visitors can do to thank the owner for allowing public accessibility.Free entry+parking (2 different areas to park). Sunrise to sunset.

2022-04-27Ive been in La Jolla once before and cant believe I missed visiting this location the first time. It was a bit of an effort to navigate the roads and turn in here, but very cool place to visit. The views were amazing and enjoyed reading some of the memorials.

2022-02-18Stumbled upon this place on accident and dont regret it. The most beautiful place to go when the sun is setting. Absolutely breathtaking, this is a must see. It is impossible to even explain in words, just go see for yourself...Will add photos but they do not do it justice.

2022-03-18Beautiful spot with a 360 view of San Diego. Free parking and theres plenty of spots because theres 2 parking lots (everyone tries to get to the parking lot near the monument and you can get lucky because lots of people are coming in and out). Definitely a great tourist spot to visit on your SD trip

2022-03-04Such a special place. Mt. Soledad is a beautiful veterans memorial, where loved ones have paid for plaques to honor military veterans, living or deceased, from any branch of the U.S. armed forces. Parking can be tough during busy times (e.g. late afternoon/sunset), but there is a lower parking lot within short walking distance. The 360° views are spectacular and on clear days, you can see Mexico and the Coronado Islands in Baja.

2022-04-26We visited this place on a Easter morning. A nice quiet place to watch the sunrise/sunset or pay respect to our Veterans. Fantastic view of the ocean and inland. If you just want a place to meditate or just to take break this is one of my favorite place. I highly encourage donating if you can at the end of your visit so we can continue to enjoy this place for many years to come.

2021-09-20What a wonderful experience. My husband is a Veteran. He met other veterans during our visit. Was nice to listen to them talk about their duty in the military. Always patriotic & humbling when you hear what they all been thru. The memorial is so beautiful. The Cross & the pictures of each Veteran is amazing. Our family loved seeing this memorial. Thankful to those who made it possible to have this memorial. May God Bless & protect those serving & those whove served. And their loved ones. 💖🇺🇲💖
