Quite a bit of space for having a picnic. Saw a lot of families celebrating here. We came to visit the Japanese Garden but it closes quite early, which was very disappointing. We walked around and it was nicely shaded. Several gazebo areas to reserve for your celebrations. We also found no shortage of restrooms. There is a Zoo, Rose Garden, Museum and Funland with kiddie rides.
I am impressed by the number and diversity of animals at the MG Zoo! We came at opening and saw every animal perfectly. The signage is informative and helpful. I appreciate the emphasis on conservation and education on multiple aspects of the animals. It is clean, inexpensive and fun!
Great place to spend the day and not a lot of money entry fee is about the lowest around and you have the zoo the tea gardens the water feature next to wortley lake to cool off in several playgrounds wortley lake to fish in and plenty of shade not to mention the disc golf course which is excellent and the museum and funderwoods awesome place
This park is full of several different things. There’s a zoo and two garden parks. Along with a playground and frisbe area.It was hard to navigate and I couldn’t get to the Japanese garden. Which I was really bummed about because that’s the main reason I went. The zoo is very tiny so don’t go out of your way for it.They close one way roads and make you go the wrong way to get out. I couldn’t get to a chunk of the park because they had these roads closed. No one is helpful and they’re all rude and short tempered.
Great park. Lots of great memories here. Some sections dont have lots of parking, but the park is huge (and green). The Japanese garden was operational (I didnt feel the need to go in to enjoy the park). I dont know if the zoo was open because I didnt check. Some driveways circle back around to give you another chance to find your people. You might get lost, but once you find your family, it becomes worth it. Saw people playing volleyball and football.
Amazing park. HUGE. Lots of parking, lots of picnic areas, lots of activities that you can do, and well kept. Will definitely be spending more time here. You do have to pay a parking fee. And a separate fee for the small zoo and maybe the fun town (I think its called) but im not sure because it was closed when we went.
Brought my two little granddaughters here as a reward and also to get/keep them out of the house. We went all over the park and looked at the parks, the ponds, the water park area and a few other places. Chose not to check out the zoo, as you never really know what they are going to have for animals.
Birthday week continues! Took mom down memory lane, this time to Micke Grove Regional Zoo. Had a blast! I didnt want to leave the (big) kitties though.Tickets and entry fee was reasonably priced. Paid 5 dollars to enter park and for three adults paid 15 dollars for tickets.
Mickey Grove Regional Park is full of good memories for my family. This past Mothers Day was no exception. We found a comfortable spot to sit near the play area for the grandkids and enjoyed the afternoon. Many other families around us were there as well. It felt happy, relaxed and spacious for all of us.
Had a good time. Visited the zoo and saw some animals. Its sad seeing caged animals or animals in enclosures, just tried to be friendly and quiet. Spent less than an hour inside the zoo. Also visited the Japanese garden, its beautiful this time. Take the time to appreciate nature and the beautiful flower garden.
Great place for family reunions, weddings , birthdays, events, and spending time with your love ones. Reserve an area for your event, and also visit the zoo, kids theme park & Japanese Garden. Locals enjoy this Grove since elementary school, so pick up your mess after your party. If some have negative views about this park , perhaps volunteer are donate to Mickey Grove Regional Park. I have been visiting this park since 1971 , Eric Rodriguez
Keeping up with our theme of getting outside and enjoying life despite contrary opinions and proper protocols during the Coronavirus, yesterday, Thursday March 4, 2921. together me and my dear friend enjoyed a lovely day at Micke Grove Regional Park & Zoo. Entrance to the Park is only $5 per car, and entrance to the Zoo only $5. What a lovely day outside enjoying being out and amongst the delightful landscaped grounds and animals of the zoo. Masks worn in place, and a beautiful day set the stage for a much needed zoo visit. I hadn’t been to this Zoo in at least 20 years, and what a pleasant surprise it was. Lots of changes to the landscape. Just a beautiful layout of the zoo incorporating some old with much of the new. I really enjoyed the accessed aviary of which inside you’ll find birds, ducks of a different feather, and some you’ll recognize with a real water feature. The aviary closes for the day at 3pm. If I didn’t already know that I was at this Zoo, then, I wouldn’t recognize it. I am impressed, and I enjoyed this visit. Relaxed and not busy this day. I will return. It’s convenient to the surrounding areas, and I recommend visiting at any time. Photos and video are with this Review. Thanks.
Beautiful park with lots of different areas and activities. I went to visit the Japanese garden and the zoo, which are both stunning and the animals are kept on good habitats. Lots of picnic and recreational space as well. Definitely worth the trip to spend a morning or afternoon (or both!)
Pros: the cost to enter isnt bad at all. The grounds are kept nicely and theres plenty of shaded areas for family gatherings. Zoo staff are friendly and very informative. Cost to enteris very reasonable. The Amusement park staff was extremely accommodating & the cost of rides was extremely good!Cons: the online info for the zoo and amusement park need updating. We had wanted to bring a large group to the zoo and amusement park but an online search said that the hours might be effected by the holiday... We did take our granddaughter the following day and found that the park had been open! We really missed out. The zoo is in need of a snack bar other than vending machines. Maybe juices, water, coffee, & fruits at least?
I love this place! Its so peaceful and i dont feel like Im in Stockton at all. I only paid the parking fee which was $5. There is another fee for the zoo, but Im not sure how much that is. I wen to the Japanese Garden and it was so lovely. There were tons of coy fish and so much greenery. It really is a nice place to relax, listen, and walk around. The place is huge and is very well kept!
Took grandbabies (ages 4 & 5) to the zoo. Not many animals but enough for the price. Which I thought was affordable at $18 for 2 adults and 2 children. There was a $5.00 fee to enter the park. And I took my 2 dogs and was told that would be an additional $2. Even though we were only going to be there for 1 hour I didnt mind paying. We also took the kids to the Japanese garden which was already closing but the caretaker let us take a walk thru. There was a Koi pond, waterfall and many beautiful flowers and trees.Plenty of parking. There is also a waterpark which I didnt know about or we would have brought our suits and towels. They also have a few rides for the kids but that closed at 4pm( website said closing was at 5pm)Overall a beautiful park with lots to do.The dogs loved chasing the squirrels. And I enjoyed laying on the grass in the shade looking up at the marvelous trees.
Awesome place! Has a small zoo, a tea garden and a theme park. Dont expect this to be anything like a big city zoo. Its a great place to take the kids and spend 2-3 hours. Kids had a blast at the theme park, which is a little run down but for $20, my 2 kids got to ride on at least 5 rides each and it was fine. Would go back.
Gorgeous park. First time here. Will be buying the annual pass. Not many paths, nor any trails to walk a dog, but our ratcha was so excited by the lake and ducks alone. Tons of grass areas, disc golf, and endless shady trees. Plus we came on food truck day. Philly cheese steak fries. yumm.
Huge park, great for gatherings of all sorts. We visited for a wedding in the Japanese garden. Beautiful scenery. Indoor reception area next door was basic but had a stage and the cool air conditioning felt amazing on the hot day! Lots of parking. Pay for parking a bit steep on holidays $10. Normally 5 or 6 I think.
Good regional park. The entry fee is $6 per car on weekends but its worth it. There are lot of shaded picnic areas. There is a Japanese garden but it closes at 1pm.The area is pretty huge and right on/near Hwy 99. They have a water fountain and pond , multiple kids play area, and a small zoo ( which has it’s own entry fee ).There are train tracks on the back side of the park near the zoo so you may see a freight train pass by too.I would recommend it if you are planning a break/stop on your way or just for a picnic.
A true and one of a kind experience of San Joaquin County and its natural environment. Not many places like this in the world, yet alone in California. From recreational activities to history and museums, MGRP is a perfect place for hanging out with loved ones or used as a purposeful outing as a class, passion or even as a date.
The park is great! Just dont like that they close the whole area at 6!! Im visiting for business and get done around 3:30 PM so with drive time it makes it hard to fully enjoy the disc golf course when there is a time crunch. Would be nice to have the park close at sunset which is close to 7:30 pm around this time of year. Edit** closes at 7 now!!
What an incredible discovery. So many options of things to do, from walking, to a Japanese Garden, a Zoo, Disc Golf, play areas for kids, or just simply sit back and look at the water, the ducks, the sky. This park has it all. We are definitely going to come back again!
Very nice - small zoo atmosphere. Good for the location and price. Nicely maintained park and benches to eat at after or before enjoying the animals. The fun town was also open and staff were nice. My 2 year old grandson loved it. Had more fun than the Sac Zoo even though there were no dinosaurs.
Its a nice little zoo, just to get out. Its great to take my grandma since she cant walk too far anymore. The zoo is very small and so are the enclosures, but the animals still seem to be happy and healthy. Very nice selection of exotic animals as well. While your at it you check out the Japanese garden.
Very nice disc golf course! In addition to changing pin placements (ABCD), each hole has a gold and silver cage for extra options. Good hole signage, and plenty of trash bins (and many dedicated to recyclables). A few holes border water, and others require waiting for cars or pedestrians to clear. Otherwise, this flat course (excepting one hole) uses trees.
Have had my daughters birthday here for a couple of years. Its always great. Its clean. Bathrooms could use a little updating but we always have a fun time here. The playgrounds are always fun and the zoo is a fun place to take the kids. They finally take debit cards at the entrance too.
We came in the morning, and the animals seemed mostly cold and quiet. This is a very small but reasonably priced zoo. There were only a few others visiting. Facilities were clean, but the animals are all in old style cages. There is a fun land next door, but it was closed on a Saturday, so call ahead if that interests you. There is a charge to enter the park per vehicle.
We came here on a Wednesday afternoon for a little game of baseball & football with our son. We took advantage of the beautiful weather & the calm atmosphere. It gets pretty busy on the week end so the chance of getting time on the field would b zero because of the crowds. This park is kept up nice so Im real appreciative of that. We will be returning here soon.
There is something for everyone at this park. There is a very small zoo but still fun for little ones. And their amusement park is a little dated. The same as when i was a kid but i love going and just enjoying the japanese gardens and the pond and little splash zone
It was fun. My fiancee and I visited the Japanese gardens first then went to the zoo they have there. The zoo is incredibly small but the animals are pretty cool. That being said its rather depressing. There is a fossa there that has literally gone insane. All it does is pace back and forth among the fence. It has a 1000 yard stare like you would see on a soldier with shell shock. Seeing this ruined our trip. It was just sad.
Great place to go. They have so much to see and do including a small zoo and amusement park. They also have beautiful Japanese Tea Garden to walk through and an agricultural museum as well as a Frisbee golf course. There is ample parking and lots of grass area and picnic tables. Next door there is a fun and challenging golf course complete with pro shop, cafe, and driving range. Great for families, very low entry fee and you could easily spend all day long here. Something for everyone in the family.
This place has very good spots to come and enjoy a good day with the family, theres different things to do, like the small zoo, another area with rides for kids, a Japanese garden, a museum (You have to pay extra to go inside the zoo and the garden), it also has a lake and a water playground. I feel the outer areas need better care, but it still has good/nice areas to visit.
Great place for family get togethers, picnics, weddings. Large clean zoo, recently remodeled so the animals live in clean spacious areas. Beautiful Koy fish pond and rose garden.. Picnic tables, horseshoes, volleyball. Located off of Hwy 99. Fun family place. Also has a small carnival rides and a little train to ride Been going here since I was very young, made good memories
The grounds are always well kept and clean. The grounds are always well kept and clean. Mickeys Grove is a great place to go and relax. There are a lot of areas for barbecuing. A lot of benches with beautiful large oak trees for shade. The Japanese garden is beautiful. Also a zoo is available and play area for the kids. Oh, theres also a little water park. The grounds are always well kept and clean!!
I love this place to take my kids such a great outdoor experience theres 4 different parts plenty of seating Ill door area to run by play with your kids take your dog for a walk all around its a very enjoyable beautiful outdoor experience for the children there are some cute little monkeys at the zoo and a beautiful snow leopard among other animals there hope you enjoy time with your family there i know I sure do
Clean, nicely landscaped zoo. Great for toddlers, however for the majority of people over the age of 4, it will most likely be a bit boring and leave you disappointed. Its a pleasant walk with a few animals to look at. There was a couple of unique animals that we had not seen previously, such as the fossa from Madagascar.Ticket cost was affordable, though thats about the limit of what I would be willing to pay for this facility. Not all five acres were open, it was probably only half or a little over half that were actually open and had exhibits.Accessible for strollers and wheelchairs in all areas except the walk through bird aviary.Overall a nice visit, however we completed the walk through in about an hour, and that was with taking multiple photos and visiting some exhibits more than once.
My mom took my kids to this place. And then my parents took me here to play some disc golf. The course was fun. There are playgrounds for the kids to play at. There is a small zoo. An amusement park for childern. A museum also there. The big pond with the fountain is stunning. The veteran statue is honorable and a great view with the fountain in the background.
They charge for day use even tho half the features are closed due to Covid. I arrived late afternoon hoping to see Japanese gardens. They gave me a note saying it was open but after I paid to get in, found out that gardens close early on Sundays. Would have been nice if they told me first.
Is big and they have a lot of things in here. The have the small zoo that has a small park inside. Then they have funland a small park with rides for the kids. They also have a water area where the kids can play when its hot. Ive havent been to it but they also have a Japanese tea garden and a museum. Parking its $6 but on holidays its $10
Even with the weather not very condusive to seeing animals. It was still wonderful..the size of the zoo is perfect for smaller kids and disabled people kids & adults..by the time we where on secound lap more animals where wakeing up..the trick is going early at breakfast aprox 11 to 1145ish and the thne get playful again in the later afternoon~ the BEST IS THE SNOW Leopard!!!
Thumbs up if this review is helpful please. The zoo part is small, but there is a large playground. It was a Saturday but the snack bar was closed. We were only in for about an hour and when we came out to our cars my Mims car had a smashed window and her purse was gone. It took the sheriffs department over an hour to show up and there is no park security.
Great place to take the kids for a quick trip. There are a verity of animals, our favorites are the the snow leopard and the bobcat. The bobcat likes to follow the train, so stick around for one to come by. The snow leopard likes to sun on the rocks at the top of his cage. There is also a cool walk in bird pen where you can get a closer look at some birds.
If you only want to go to the zoo you still have to pay $5 to get into the park and then another $5 to get into the zoo. It would be nice to have a separate zoo entrance. Feel kinda ripped off having to pay for the park when all I did was drive through to get to the zoo.
We have had our annual Dubois family reunion here, annually, for 26 years. Its a well kept park, clean and not overgrown with weeds. We always rent a covered picnic area a year before to be sure we get the same one. We have been in three different picnic areas and all were clean. You can also go any day without preplanning, if you only need a barbecue and a picnic table. Ive been coming here since I was a little kid, 44 years. Love this place
Japanese garden is beautiful w/ lots of large koi..yes zoo has closed exhibits, yes zoo has construction, but for a small local place its still a nice trip to take, plus with 3 large play grounds and a water spout exhibit to get wet, you just Cant go wrong. Plus, lots of pic nic areas . Whether its for the day or a couple of hours...always a 5 star day with my grandkids :)
The park and gardens are great. The zoo is well known to locals as not being appropriate or adequate for the animals housed there. The Halloween event sealed the deal for our family. They set up a few tables with bean bag toss games that are maintained by teen volunteers. If their friends are nearby they care more about that then the children needing their guidance for games. A large group of teens were smoking pot by the spider monkies they were shining lights and such on. My boys left with 4 pieces of candy and were quite frustrated by how little effort was made. $11to park and walk around for 4 pieces of candy. We will spend our money elsewhere next year.
A nice park to take the family. They have alot of picnic space. They have made changes to the park. I have been going here since I was a young kid and still take my family there to this day. They have A small zoo, Japanese garden, small amusement park, and plenty of space for recreation.
I went to micke grove Japanese garden for a wedding and it was beautiful. The park was life one large loop so as you drove you see picnic area the playground, the garden, the zoo etc. It was a nice setup right off the freeway. About a 40 minute drive from Sacramento. Keep in mind you do need to pay for entry.
The Japanese garden was 3 star. Its smaller than expected and you can easily walk around in less than 10 minutes. Highlight of the garden were the big koi fish.It was the memorial weekend and they charged us $10 parking. I inquired at the entrance about the high cost. Usually its $6, they said its special holiday even though it was Sunday and memorial day was on Monday. Not worth it if you plan to go for the Japanese garden only. And the Japanese garden opens on certain hours. Tea house is located in the heart of the garden. It was closed.1 check-inThe park is outdated and understaffed. The staffs were friendly and if they saw a line on a certain ride, they would jump onto that rid to operate. Most of the time youll notice the ride is ideal.Youll have to wait until the staff is available to operate the ride.My daughter was excited to go on the rides. For a two year, all she cared was any rides. At the fun town, the first ride she wanted to go was the train ride. She kept complaining its going slowly. But she had fun.Rides were $2. And if you get the package deal which is 10 rides for $18.On the carousel people had to make sure the weight was even otherwise hard for the carousel to move. The rose garden is very relatively small. But they had beautiful roses. I wish they had more roses. My favorite roses were the pink ones..
Great place for young kids and a nice family outting. Ironically its better to goto Funzone when the park is more crowded because they increase the staff and youre able to go on more rides. The zoo is small but very personable and the animals are closer to you than typical zoos.
Funtown is located right next to Micke Grove Zoo. It has several carnival-type rides, most geared toward younger children, but everything could use a fresh coat of paint and some touching up to make it look nicer. The last time we went, it was a slow day so they only had one employee running all of the rides.
One of the nicest parks in the area. The fact that you have to pay to enter means its clean and you dont have random questionable looking people hanging around like in most other parks in Stockton. The zoo is incredibly small and wont mean much to kids past the age of 7 or 8, but is inexpensive and pleasant. Fun Town is aging and looks a little like the site of a Scooby Doo mystery, but again, for little kids, its a cheap way to have lots of fun without having to go far.

2022-05-29I love coming to the Japanese garden. It is very calming. Much better when flowers are in bloom but even without the flowers it is relaxing. The rest of the park is a fantastic place to spend quality family time, have a picnic or party or even play Frisbee golf. It also has a museum and zoo. Great family area.

2022-06-06Aside from the Karen, all was good. We checked out the park, the playground and looked at the museum stuff that was outside. The Japanese garden had closed as soon as we got there. The dog loved the squirrels. Great day at the park. We will be returning.

2022-06-29Ive been to this park before and it never disappoints. Very peaceful. Cool place to hang out, wander around, breathe, and take a few pictures. I love this park. I need to go more!

2022-03-27For a park, that you pay around $6 to enter, it is a pretty nice spot. There were people everywhere enjoying the scenery, relaxing, and playing disc golf. It seems the golf courses on the side of the park may be a little too close. It was okay nonetheless. If youre looking to really go for a walk, this park is HUGE!!! The sites are nice and the park is fairly well kept. Id say, for the $6, totally worth the visit. Even if youre just going for some nice scenery while you do your work. Id pick this spot over a coffee shop any day.

2021-12-30The zoo was a nice quiet experience except for the unmonitored children who were screaming. I was surprised zoo staff didnt flock to the source of the noise. Beware, if someone was actually being eaten/attacked/annoyed, help is slow to react. Jokes aside, the zoo was very calming, green, animals all looked healthy and well taken care of. The snow leopard as well as the Bob cat were very active. I cant wait for better weather since it was sprinkling and some older animals were tucked away to keep their bones from aching.

2022-03-15We decided to use one of the playgrounds. Its mostly for big kids. Although they have ones for smaller kids also. She had a blast with her cousins and it became full really fast because it was a 🌞 day..

2021-09-05Your GPS may lead you to a service entrance, so just make sure you follow the signs for the Zoo/park entrance. It is $5 for entry and if you are going to the zoo, that is a separate entrance fee as well. The park has several playgrounds as well as covered areas that you can reserve. These covered areas typically have picnic tables, a restroom, horseshoe pit, and a playground nearby. There is also a few areas that are shaded and have a bbq pit for smaller parties. The park area is generally quiet and very well shaded. They also do have a water splash pad for kids.

2021-10-13Ive been coming here since I was a kid , feels great to be able to bring my son and niece here to share in my childhood memories.❤️ Many cool animals to see , also they have a Japanese garden, and 3 other play grounds you will have to pay 5 dollars for parking but that will get you into all the playgrounds and Japanese garden but the entrance fee to zoo is 5 dollars and kids under 2 are free. I highly recommend this and dont forget your hand sanitizer enjoy 😍🤟
