The worst car rental experience you could ask for. I booked a rental for 2 days, but didn’t pick it up on the first day because our flight was delayed (yes, they close at 4pm). We arrived on the second day to pick up our car, but they refused to release a rental due to an expired voucher??!!?. First of all, we booked (and fully paid) a rental for 2 days — I don’t understand why they can’t give us a rental that we paid for. Yes, they are cheap- but definitely not worth the chaotic issues you have to deal with. Please avoid this place at all cause!!!
Hands down the fastest and easiest car rental experience 🙌 I was kind of thrown off at first as it was not located at the main car rental facility. (I did not realize when I booked that it said off site) when I called the office, the man on the other side of the phone was very helpful and it just so happened there was already a car waiting for us to take us to the facility. We spent less than 15 min picking up the car. THANK YOU!!!
I want to thank them for ruining my first car rental experience. I will ALWAYS go name brand car rental agencies from here on out. Waiting in the sun for their van for 30 minutes at the bus depot should have been a sign but I’m an optimist. Upon arrival at the their lot, there was a line of people waiting and virtually no cars available. After waiting in line outside for an hour the car I reserved about a month prior (Versa or similar size) was not available when I arrived so it was on me to pay for the upsize. Some of us in line were fortunate they had a trailer deliver more midsize SUV’s everyone else either left or paid for a minivan. I was supposed to pay $201 at pick up and ended up paying $510. The gentleman who helped me was very customer friendly but his coworker working the opposite end of the desk spoke to others with a tone like it was our fault that they were out of vehicles. Pathetic. The customer is not always right but when the business is at fault they need to take accountability. Don’t @ me with an apology or ask for a follow up. Close your business if you care about people.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Told them Id be returning the car at 4am and the person checking me out told me where the vehicle would need to be returned. Even printed me a map.What he didnt tell me was that Id be charged $30 for returning the vehicle to THE PARKING LOT HE TOLD ME TO DROP IT OFF AT. Tried calling the location and always got sent to voicemail or never answered. Tried calling the headquarters and only after 2 months got someone to tell me what the charge was even for.The $10 you save renting from here is absolutely not worth it. Lesson learned.
After we returned the vehicle, we were charged an extra $150 dollars for insurance and road side assistance. If you rent from this company, be careful when you pickup the car. They will add these unnecessary services and get you to initial on their little pen pad. They won’t tell you they are adding them. When you get your final invoice, you will see all the “extra” charges. Very dishonest company. We feel like we were totally taken advantage of by Maria in the San Diego location. We recommend just paying a bit extra for one of the larger rental agencies that are closer to the airport terminal. Lesson learned.
Do not us this company. I booked a car and paid a month in advance. When I arrived they advised me they did not have any cars and won’t have any for weeks. Told me cars need oil changes, and it’s not their fault people don’t return them. They refund me my money and told us bye. I had two small children with me and they didn’t even blink kickings all of us to the curb late at night. Mex truly should not be in busy. I can’t stress enough do not do not use this company.
Avoid this total scammer company. I had outrageous experience. I swear to God that I am not lying or exaggerating my story. First, my flight was delayed more than 8 hours. Therefore, I called to this rental car customer service and told them I was going to be late for pick up. They said, Your reservation is reserved if you pick up within 24 hours from original pick up time. As they close the office at 6PM, I went for pick up in the next day but still within 24 hours window. Suddenly, the staff told me that my reservation is no longer valid and threatened me that there is no available car right now. After a few minutes hassling, she charged me additional $261.5 on top of what I have already paid $274.77. Also, they charged me additional $75.5 after return the car although I filled out the gas 100%. When I called to customer service, they pick up and listen my situation but never respond after put me on hold. I was on hold more than 60 minutes. Eventually, I spent $611.77 just for 4 days rental and this was the worst experience I have ever had with rental car.
If I could I wouldn’t even give this business a one star if I’m being honest. First mistake I made was not looking at reviews prior to booking the rental. After reading all reviews I know now that I’m not the only one who had a bad experience. So if I can save at least one person the trouble please hear me out! The car rental shuttle from the airport doesn’t drop you off at their exact location. Once you are dropped off from the shuttle you have to call them to come pick you up. So I did that, and I got someone to answer. The guy I was talking to on the phone gave me this false hope that someone was on their way to pick me and my family up. He kept telling me hold on I’m checking to see when they will be there to pick you up with long periods of being held on the phone. Eventually he hung up on me and when I tried to call back no one answered. Thankfully I immediately called Priceline and told them my situation and they were able to cancel my booking with them.
In April we rented two cars from Mex Rent a Car in San Diego through Priceline. When we picked up the cars in May for our 4-day visit, we were charged what the person who checked us out said was an additional damage deposit fee that would be returned within a week of our returning the cars. The woman who checked us back in said that the cars were fine. We did not receive the return of our deposit, which we were told was $200 per car. What they did was charge us the same price that we paid Priceline. We ended up paying $ 931.52 rental fee for what should have been $465.76. Buyer beware!!!
This company is the most unprofessional, unethical, rob you with your eyes wide open type of business. Never use this company, in fact this company should not be able to operate in the U.S. Booked through Expedia and my up front cost to rent a vehicle was $160 for 7 day rental. I would’ve been more skeptical if I didn’t book through Expedia. I wouldn’t even considered this company outside of Expedia….I was charged an additional $279 because my State Farm policy did not have 300k in property damages. I’ve never heard of this!?!I have pretty decent coverage at 300k/100k/300k. I always use my personal insurance with car rentals but this company actually asked for the declaration page to confirm coverage amount. Who does that.The customer service rep was very rude and my friend who also rented same day was not charged for not having 300k in property damage coverage. This company is a fraud. Don’t use them.
Purchased through Expedia, who advertised this car rental was at the airport. It is not. You have to take two shuttles to the car lot. Our car was at an alternate lot that would have been an additional $50 Uber ride away. The Ace/Mex lot had a car on hand but we paid additional to our original agreed upon contract. We appreciated the accommodation. Three stars belong to the shuttle driver that returned us to the shuttle for the airport at the end of our trip who drove in such an unsafe and unnecessarily rough manner. He hit the gas and breaks so suddenly, slamming people around in the van. He jerked in and out of lanes and made for a very scary ride. It was unfortunate and careless.
Very unprofessional. While waiting for the shuttle from the rental car center, we had to call them numerous times to get a shuttle heading in our direction after they told us a shuttle comes every ten minutes. After a total wait of about 45 minutes the shuttle showed up and we finally got taken to our car. Then we were told their hours have changed and that we had to have the car back at 4pm. They said we could arrive at 4, and their shuttle would take us back to the rental car center where we could then head to the airport. When we arrived at 4pm on the return date, they said they were closed and the last shuttle had already left for the day, leaving us stranded with all our bags. Do not use this company, its a total circus.
A first and last! So, I made the reservation through T-Mobile travel (1st time ever) and also last. The website reserved the car from this company THROUGH Priceline for picking up at San Diego airport at 8:30 We came to find out this was an out of site car rental so we had to wait around 45 mins for a second shuttle bus. When getting to Mex rent-a-car just looking at the lady at the service desk had a very bad attitude and was very rude. Our reservation was an economic car (we were not planning on driving around much, just didn’t want to deal with taking Ubers). She told us they didn’t offer economy cars for a while and that it was a mistake from Priceline. We ended up paying for the upgrade there was supposed to be a 200 deposit. When looking at my bank charges come to find out there was an extra charge besides the deposit and when returning the car again a different lady Also very rude tells me that they had charged me the whole amount for the rental cause they didn’t get the voucher from Priceline (which was not mentioned when picking up the car).Worst customer service ever!
Serious issues... First day I rent a car through Expedia. I was forced to upgrade because car was unavailable. second day went to renew and was told it still wasnt available had to keep upgrade. Was told to go through website and to book 24+hrs in advance. Went to get new car and vehicle reserved was no longer available. They would not honor the reservation with out upgrade. For the same car I had for the 2 prior days they wanted to charge me even more. So if you book the same day, they force you to upgrade. The cars on the website are outdated and not available. Forcing you to upgrade.
No shuttles were picking up from airport later called and they said there were no vehicles even though I had a confirmation message. They didnt inform us. They didnt offer to pick us up. They just simply didnt send vehicles and said I could not speak to supervisor and figure it out after Ive been sitting up the airport for half an hour I will never use this card company again
I made a travel plan to visit San Diego and made a package(airline ticket, car, hotel) reservation with Priceline. I noticed the rent a car company was Mex Rent a Car. Once I arrived at San Diego Airport, I had to take a shuttle bus to San Diego Airport Rent a Car place. I learned that the Mex Rent was an off-site rent a car provider. I had to call the business to have them pick me up. The agent who received my call said the Navy Blue minivan would be at my location in 15 minutes, but it seemed like it was 30 minutes when I was picked up by the driver. Once I arrived at Mex Rental, agent told me the economy car I was supposed to get is not there, but there was only a car available was a SUV. I asked if it was a free upgrade and agent told me that I had to pay extra $39 per day top of what Priceline had pay them. I was stunned and the agent told me I could call Priceline and cancel my reservation for refund. Here I am at the off site location with no other rental company, so I decided to pay extra get my transportation in San Diego for 3 days. I usually get full coverage for rental car even I have my own car insurance. Agent charged me for $363.00 for 3 day rental and $150.00 deposit. Also charged me $25.00 for dropping the car at 7am on my return day, because they are not open at that time. I will talk to Priceline about this scam by this rental business. I have been SCAMMED!!!
Worst customer service I have seen in a long time. While there we and 6 other customers were informed they overlooked and would charging all of extra for a bigger car that we did not ask for. They offered no apology or any courtesy to any of us. 2 customers left to get cars elsewhere even though they had prepaid for a car at Mexico. 2 of us were finally given cars they said just got returned and the other 2 were still trying to get a fair deal when we left. DO NOT BOOK A CAR WITH THEM!!!!!
They stole my credit card inf. Buy something on line. And they never give me the contract for the car rental. I call them they Hung up the phone. The worst company. I always rent cars from Herz and Avis never have a problem .I like. To give a change to Mexican company, but never mind horrible experience they dont even deserve to have a rental place at the new Airport in México. Make to see Mexican a bad people
Rented from Mex rent a car and the day we returned the car noticed a charge for almost $250. We called to ask about the charge and the man on the phone told us he did not see a charge for $246.10 even though we never said the exact amount so he did see it and blatantly lied about it. No explanation about the charge and denied charging it even though they could clearly see it in their system.On top of this we rented from Priceline and were told they didn’t get the payment from Priceline so we were already double charged before this charge. Now we paid almost triple. Save your money by going to a more reputable company.
Do not rent from this place. The low prices are tempting but they do not honor them. If you choose to book here, make a backup (free cancellation) with a better known company an hour or 2 after your scheduled reservation. This way, when mex rent a car pulls the bait and switch, you can leave and head towards budget, avis, or any of the other well known rental companies. Look at how low the reviews are on this place - what a garbage business model.
This is scam .They charged me $150 for cleaning. The car was clean and approved by inspector.I tried to reach out to the office , the phone is not answering and the voice message is full.It off site office , it cost me so much time to realize as their phone number is not answering and the voice message is full. They charged me double price for being late .I have to wait about 30 minutes out side the office before the agent get me in .I tried to dispute the extra charges after I got it later on my credit card, their phone is not answering. I went to my credit card to help stop the extra payment.Be careful !
THE ABSOLUTE WORST SERVICE EVER. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. First and foremost, they are not on the same lot as all the other rental cars… I should have looked that up. Second, my reservation was for 2pm. It is 2:45pm and I got here early… so I have been waiting in this line, that’s outside, for over an hour. Pay the extra $$ and rent from one of the brand names at the airport!!!!!!
Scammers! I speak Spanish and am a generous tipper and I would recommended to avoid them. They would not honor my online reservation upon arrival and wanted double the agreed on price for a nicer car I did not need. Same thing happened to my brother in law earlier that day. I called the headquarters and was hung up on immediately when I asked for help. I ended up payingthe extra out of convenience and travel stress. Upon returning the car I filled up the tank a block away then didn’t notice they marked tank 1/2 full on the inspection card. Tried to charge me 40$/liter! The car was already gone and so was the guy who checked me in. I made a scene and got out of it but not fun! AVOID!!
Horrible experience! Avoid at all costs! When I arrived 2 hours late due to a flight delay, they told me that they no longer had to honor my reservation. Instead, they tried to earnestly explain that they were doing me a favor by only offering me an alternative rental that was $100+ more expensive. When I relatively politely asked them to just honor my original booking, the agent (Maria) snapped and told me I was being rude and had to leave. She knew that my booking was a great deal and that if I had to go elsewhere at the last minute, Id pay a lot more. She then proceeded to give me the silent treatment. While I got on the phone with the main MEX number to seek a solution, she called over to me that I had to leave their property and that she would not be willing to rent me a car. She threatened to call the police. Note that I was with my five year old and truly had not been rude (maybe a bit frustrated, but appropriately so).So, I had to take an Uber back to the car rental center and had to make a last minute booking at Thrifty which was hundreds more for the week.I finally texted the manager, who promptly responded that he had reviewed the cameras and would not be willing to discuss the issue further. I still dont understand what he claims to have seen in the security footage. My guess is that somehow Maria just responded to the text.
I paid on priceline days before getting my rental car and i show up to get my rental front desk said still needed to pay even though i showed them the email so i repaid my amount. The guy told me i had to call priceline finally after one week i get an email from priceline stating the car company made a mistake and they will refund me directly from mex car rental what i paid at the front desk. Now trying to get ahold of mex rent a car through their customer service email address and still nothing to be heard on my refund, my trip was 3 weeks ago........still waiting on my refund. Now it has been a MONTH still no refund and emailed them got a automated response back which wasnt helpful about my money
I wish I could give Mex Rent A Car zero stars. I recently booked with them through Priceline, months before my trip, and when I arrived at the airport was already a bit frustrated having to take the off-site shuttle to their location. Then, when I was getting on the shuttle I got a call from Mex to tell me that they didnt have a car for me because my reservation was pending with Priceline and they also didnt have a car available at the next step up reservation, so the only option was for me to pay ~$100 more. Frustrated, but needing a vehicle, I called Priceline and they confirmed that my reservation was showing cleared and funded on their side, but Mex insisted that they werent seeing the same. Then, Mex recommended that I have Priceline refund my payment and pay through them (seems convenient for Mex) and when I requested Priceline to do so (and Mex talked to them), it cancelled my reservation all together. Mex proceeded to tell me that there was no way that they could honor my original or the $100 more price without the Priceline reservation and that I would have to pay more than double to get a vehicle. There were 2 other people in the office having the same issues with Mex through Priceline reservations. I left and rebooked through Priceline at Fox Rent A Car and they had no issues with my reservation. STAY AWAY FROM MEX RENT A CAR.

2021-12-01Smooth process, great price, friendly people, clean car.Yes, MEX is located off-site from the airport, but it was a very short 5-10 minute ride from the airport, and the shuttle arrived 10-15 minutes after I called. I was on my way in a perfectly clean car less than 10 minutes upon arriving at the office. The staff were friendly, always smiling, asking why I was in town, making sure I had a positive experience with them.I arrived the day before my conference, so the small additional travel times were insignificant. The customer experience, from start to finish, on the other hand, was exceptional.Well done, MEX Team San Diego! I will definitely reserve through them again on my next trip to SD

2022-05-15After prepaying online via Priceline, I had to take a taxi to this off site airport car rental company, after waiting for an airport shuttle that never arrived. I attempted to call the company from the airport to inquire about the shuttle, only to get an automated response and put on hold. The automated response indicated if I pressed “1” and hung up, I would get a call back, which never happened. The taxi dropped me off at Mex, at which time I encountered a closed and padlocked gate (see photo). This was 4:00 pm on a Saturday when they claim they are open. As I was standing there trying to figure out what to do, a man showed up in his rental car with his family. They were headed to the airport to catch a flight and were trying to return their car, and they couldn’t figure out how to get inside the property either. He and his wife both attempted unsuccessfully to contact the company via phone numerous times while I was there, and as I left had finally connected with a third party not even directly associated with Mex! At that point, even though I had prepaid, I decided I did not want my own gamble when attempting to return a car tomorrow, so I had to pay for a Lyft back to the airport to rent another car through a different company. I am dismayed that Priceline would contract through a company like this. Their overall Google reviews are terrible and indicate I’m clearly not alone in my negative experience with Mex. I will be contacting Priceline to get a refund. STAY AWAY!!!!

2022-02-23Needing a car during high peak hours, I went directly to Ace rental car in San Diego. Maria, who was at the counter, attended to my problem. She provided me the most professional assistance and explained the entire procedure in renting the car for a week. The transaction is smooth. The price is reasonably fair. Another lady, Carmen, also gave me an excellent service when I decided to extend my car rental.

2022-01-28I booked a car this week for my wedding in San Diego. We stayed in the circular area of the hotel, so this location was perfect. Due to early booking, the rate was great! We arrived on time for the scheduled pickup and our car was waiting for us. The car was very manageable. The Mex rent a car employees were welcoming and charming, especially Francisco, and made the experience as pleasant as possible.

2021-11-16Two issues. The first is that you must take a shuttle from the airport to the rental car building, and THEN another shuttle to Mex which is an outside facility. That was not explained very well when booking. We were at the airport rental facility and called Mex and she suggested we came for our car the following day. Mind you it was 5pm and they closed at 6pm. I take it she just wanted to make sure she closed on time and didnt have to deal with us. She never explained that a shuttle would be there momentarily to pick customers up. Thankfully we noticed the shuttle and caught it, and made it there before 6PM. Secondly, we prepaid for our rental. When asked if we wanted insurance we declined and said that our personal insurance covered rentals. She asked for a credit card for incidentals. This is normal, and wasnt a problem. She explained there would be a hold on the card then refunded. After our trip we noticed a charge on our card that had processed for $147. When we called to ask what it was for, they told us it was for the insurance. Insurance we never wanted. We explained that we didnt accept the insurance and that we were told the card was on hold for incidentals. Not only was the gentleman on the phone rude, but we were told there was nothing he could do for us and THEN were hung up on. Not only did we return the vehicle pristine and the gas tank full, but we even ran it through a quick car wash to rinse the desert dust off. I would never use this company again! Rude employees, and we truly feel scammed. They were affordable, and we found them through t-mobile, but it wasnt worth the savings at all and their location is not really convenient. Im not sure how they are still in business.

2022-01-31When I returned my rental they later charged me for three additional days. They had no record of me returning it. They basically lost the vehicle on their own lot for three days and tried to charge me for it. I had to send them my boarding pass information to prove that I wasn’t even in San Diego. It took multiple emails and a whole month to resolve the issue. This is the same company as Ace rental in San Diego.

2022-04-02We rented a car on Monday and dropped it off Thursday. When we picked up the car I clearly told the guy a the counter several times that I did not want collision. I told him I called my insurance and credit card and they told me to decline it. But I was still charged for collision. They said to contact the manager but he never got back to me. They do it on purpose. I have rented from many reputable American companies and never had such a problem. Not to make this about Nationality but as a Mexican company, they are horrible.

2022-04-08Everything was very smooth! The Mex shuttle arrived about 10 minutes after we got to the rental car area, and it was a very short drive over to their location. The car we got was clean and spacious, and there was no wait at all to fill out the paperwork. I would definitely rent from them again.

2021-12-11These guys are absolute liars. Ive rented cars for 20 years and this is by far the worst experience.My transfer plane was late-I called them from the airport. They looked up my reservation, said they will be closed but I would have no problem getting it next morning. Just to make sure we are on the same page, Ive asked to put a note on my reservation. They confirmed they did. Next morning they pretended that they never had that conversation with me. And they didnt have any car. My reservation was prepaid through a third party web site. It was in the middle of rental car shortages, so they rented it to someone else for a higher price. Moreover it took me a few months to fight to get my money refunded for the car they never gave me. The lady at the front desk just has no moral values. Just like the rest of the company. They will lie right to your face, will try to take anything they can from you. If someone managed to get through no trouble, they were just lucky. Read the hundreds of reviews, and see if you want to play a lottery. Bad experience may happen with any company. This one is intentionally deceitful whenever it can be and doesnt have any shame. Just avoid if you dont want to spoil your vacation or business trip.

2021-12-30We rented a car in November. The car was nice and clean. The price that we ended up paying was more than we contracted for. However we were refunded the difference after writing to customer service, so we greatly appreciate that. Make sure you bring Proof of your Auto Insurance if you dont want to buy their Liability Insurance.
