I believe for this area, the ice cream here is good. However: the interior feels cheap with that vinyl floors, considering the premium price to pay. Also the ice cream is not made on site but trucked in in prepackaged containers so I assume its not necessarily freshly made every day.
This is an EXCELLENT Mariannes! I go to their main location on Ocean St in Santa Cruz quite often. But I love this store when Im in the area. They have a great selection for the store size, good prices, and the staff has always been courteous and quite helpful every time Ive ever been there. They definitely have the best ice cream in all of Santa Cruz County. Snd probably even California. Its rich, creamy and just AMAZING!Their milkshakes are awesome as well. The ice cream sandwiches are some of the best Ive had, too. Youve just got to try them!Given the quality of the ice cream the prices are spot on - you really do get what you pay for here! Truly.Highly recommend if you want great ice cream! 👍👍
So many flavors! Lots of classics and some fun different ones, too. Heaven was the standout (vanilla with peanut butter and brownies and maybe cookie dough? Or at least chocolate chips) and German Chocolate was good, too. (And the samples, which were more generous then you’d expect from a popsicle stick, I tried were also tasty!) I hit ice crystals a couple times, but it was very enjoyable.
This is a great place to visit for some real ice cream. Its been a go to place for us.I highly recommend going here.Hand-crafted ice cream that’s made with love. Marianne’s has been innovating flavors and using time honored techniques to bring the richest creamiest and most delightful ice creams to you since 1947.A careful process of hand preparing our ingredients and hand mixing the flavors reflects the personal care we take every day. Starting before 6:00 am, the folks at Marianne’s are working to deliver the best ice cream and novelties we know how to make.We have more than 100 flavors in our rotation and more than 250 in our recipe box. So, whether it’s our latest experiment, or the honored standby, you know the ice cream is still made the way it is has always been made- By hand, right here in Santa Cruz.
Ice cream here is really good. Its a really popular place so there is often a line but the wait is worth it. Everytime I come to Santa Cruz, I make sure to stop here. Im pretty sure you can buy tubs of Mariannes at zanottos. There is also a huge variety of flavors so youll definitely find something you love.
I don’t know how the ice cream at this place is this good but it is outstanding. Highly recommend the butter pecan. Buttery, deep flavor, and just the right amount of pecan. Also, I appreciate that they make the ice cream at slightly higher temperature than normal so it’s perfect texture and melty in a good way. Recommend.
Great ice cream, wait wasnt too long. Ask for ice cream for dogs, they gave us a free small cup of old fashioned vanilla for our dog and they loved if! Con is definitely the small parking spots. I have a larger truck and parked my best so others could leave but some B t h parked and blocked me and several others in. Luckily I just popped the tailgate down and indulged on my ice cream right there. Favorite flavor is the burgundy cherryyyy
I ordered a sundae but they said they were out. Yet the people before and after me ordered one. Then I ordered 3 milkshakes, 2 cones and a jr scoop. When I walked up to the pick up table I noticed that one of the cones was upside down in a cup. Not the end of the world. However I than realized the cone was floating in a cup of melted koffee krunch. I paused and looked up and asked politely why my ice cream was in a deconstructed form. Then she tells me like its my fault or I shouldve known, well the It was too soft so we had to put it in a cup. Honestly the milkshakes had a better chance of standing up on the cone. It was now inconveniencing her that I wanted a scoop in its correct form. I opted to just have the same thing as my wife since I figured that would be the easiest and I could see that it wasnt a risk. Hers was a scoop and not a puddle. We spend a lot of money there, I always tip well, it wasnt busy at all and I didnt understand the uncharacteristically bad service we received.
This place has amazing ice cream! It’s been a Santa Cruz staple and has been in business since 1947. They have a ton of amazing flavors and make them all in house. They make pre packed quarts you can take home as well. Love their milkshakes and my favorite thing is their banana split or hot fudge sundae. They get busy but expected with how good their ice cream and customer service is. Give em a try!
Stopped in for coffee. The white chocolate mocha was pretty good. Probably one of the best I think Ive ever had.Kind service. Will be getting my coffees here from now on 🙂 Coffees are made with ICE CREAM!! Its creamy and frothy, the perfect sweetness and not pumped from sugary syrup. Has 2 espresso shots (i believe) and is delicious. You can use any single flavor or combination of ice cream you want and make it your morning brew. Your limit is your imagination.
Brought my family here to try a non chain ice cream spot. There was 10 of us and they were very nice about giving us all free samples. They took our order quick. There is so many flavors to chose from. The interior seems old fashion. Parking was hard to find for us. The limit parking Desired is 15min per customer which makes it hard when it takes more than 10 min to decide what you want to order, specially if you have never been here. The ice cream I selected was mint chip and fudge brownie. I wasn’t too impressed but was happy to support a non chain business 🙂 Customer Service was in point ⭐️
I usually go to Marianne’s in Santa Cruz, but found this other store in Aptos.Ice cream was still the classic ice cream and my guests from SoCal really enjoyed the ice cream. I wish they had a store closer to where I live, but if you are ever close by, a visit to Marianne’s is a must!It was a hot day and with COVID the store was closed and they had no outdoor seating which made it a little inconvenient. They are also still adapting to post COVID with orders at one window and pickup around the corner at the side door.
There’s a wide selection of ice cream plus both sherbet and sorbet. Great location, too - right across the street from an old-timey drive-in plus a pizza place and a Mexican restaurant. So a perfect place to grab dessert after dinner. My favorite ice cream is mint chip and Marianne’s version is nice and minty.
Its not all that. During covid for some reason all you could get was ice cream. No sundaes, no toppings, no nothing. We were outside to place our order and my mom didnt have a mask on and was standing behind me and the girl says maam, do you have a mask? I cant serve you without one. Yet they have a sign outside stating if you dont want to wear a mask you can just do pickup. And yet again my husband went to pick up the ice cream when it was ready and didnt have his mask on and she says I cant give you your order until you have your mask on which is it? $18 for 4 nasty scoops of ice cream (the ice cream tasted like it had been sitting around since before covid.) You want a better idea? Go to your local grocery store buy your own ice cream sundae makings for half the price and half the attitude!!
Very good ice cream, but TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!! We spent over $45 on our family of 5. First the associate yells at me for not wearing a mask when I was standing outside. Secondly, my sons ice cream which was supposed to be a double was served as a single AND melting over his cup. They argued with us and said we took the wrong size and would not give us another scoop for their mistake. Meanwhile, there is a long line and they’re blaming us for holding it up. Yet they still will not give us a lousy scoop of ice cream. Unfortunately, I have to rate this one star, otherwise I’d rate it ZERO! Never will I come back again. Very rude and very disrespectful associates!
We spotted this on our way to the beach one day. Decided to stop by on our way back. Fun little spot. Lots of flavors. I love a place that has espresso in addition to ice cream. Something for mom and something for the kiddos. A great treat for the ride back home from a day at the beach.
Very overpriced but you get what you pay for too! Great service great icecream and great frozen on a stick chocolate dipped cheesecake slices. Everything at Mariannes is outstanding💗 and always service with a genuine smile and always a clean environment to have a sweet bite💕
We went to Penny ice creamery and tasted every flavor my husband and I didnt think you could mess up ice cream but they did. we proceeded to go to Marianne and had the most delicious experience for a much better price my husband got the oatmeal raisin with whipped cream and I got a mix of mango sorbet and key lime sorbet with whip cream so so so good ❤️🥰🌸🌺🌼
There really is no better place to get ice cream. Staff is always helpful and nice (although they didnt know what a waffle cone was when I mentioned it). Tons of amazing flavors. My personal favorite thing to do is combine the Pistachio with Lavendar flavors. Guarantee youll love it!
I wish I had a better experience. The non dairy section is extremely limited and prices are high. I ended up with the mango sorbet and it was horrible. The flavor taste totally artificial and metal-like. I two two bites and had to throw it away. I’ve never done that before...
I grabbed some egg nog flavored Ive cream (it was the week before Christmas) and it was most wonderful! My biggest gripe would be that there were so many flavors that sounded delectable and I was only in town one night, so I couldnt try them all. Definitely recommended!
If you are near one of these you should not be buying ice cream anywhere else. And my secret tip: skip the line and buy pints (otherwise grab a ticket as soon as you get there : ) 2 pints for $11 these easily last at least three times longer than grocery Breyers air fluffed milk, better quality, support local, save money, all good things.I was 9 spots deep (most of these are groups of people as well) and it took about 3 minutes to get get to me. But turns out I didnt need to wait if I was picking pints from the freezer. If you dont see one of the flavors you want, just look confused for about 20 seconds and someone will probably offer to help. Impressive service for a busy Sunday.
Fantastic ice cream that is a bit on the expensive side. Prices fall in line more with Baskin Robbins or other well known ice cream chains. Over 80 flavors to choose from including some no-sugar added options. In addition to the ice cream, the shop also carries bottled beverages such as soda, beers and wine. The reason for the missing star, could be summed up to the expense and the lack of parking given the popularity of the shop. Still well worth a visit.
I cant type the words I want to use...so I will say this. I REALLY love this place.I can be driving home from a jobsite at 930pm and get a scoop just off the freeway.Quality, old school quality ice cream giving young kids jobs in that traditional way of the old days.No flashy sales or silly names...just yum and a comfortable momentary flashback to a better time.Wear your masks! These kids dont play with our health or theirs. So wear those masks and ENJOY!
Quaint little ice cream shop! Even though they were very busy during my visit it didnt take long to be served. The employees were extremely friendly and fast. They have a ton of ice cream flavors and dessert options. This is definitely my go to place for a quick treat!
Super easy and quick service at the State Park Dr location, highly recommend going here over the one on Ocean St because they have more space to work with so when it gets busy you dont need to be near so many people. Just order in the window and they put it at the door so you dont need to go inside.
A family favorite after visiting the beach. They have a bunch of atypical flavors to choose from, along with the typical cone / cup selection. The store is decorated with merchandise or food from small, local producers. The staff are helpful and they provide an organic waste, recycling, and trash, though an employee mentioned they only toss refuse into two different containers.
Delicious ice cream with many flavor choices. This location in Aptos is nicer than the Santa Cruz spot - its a bit easier to park here, this location takes credit card and there is a bathroom. Service is solid and they will use a separate scooper if you indicate food allergies.
Itd be almost impossible to NOT find a flavor youd be curious about, which is probably why its always crowded. Thankfully, the line moves fast. The attendants are always willing to let you try flavors to satisfy your curiosity, which just leads to another hurdle: what flavor to commit to? This place is always a destination when were in Aptos or Santa Cruz, dont miss it! Recommended flavors: Watermelon Sorbet, Burgundy Cherry, and Mexican Chocolate.
What can I say, they are a family business and they make all their own ice cream. I have been a happy consumer if Mariannes for over 40 years and I love it. The inly disappointment is thatthe new owners cannot get the coloring for tgeir licorice ice cream and in addition to it being white now (which is just wrong), it also does not have enough licorice flavor; this was one of my favorite flavors.
I personally ordered pistacio and it was not for me. They do have so many options, you will need some time to look through the name plates at least 25+ flavors...so many options...close to the seacliff beach about 3 min. drive..for those hot summer days or a ice cream before heading home if you dont live in area. The have kids/adult sizes. Also if you try your luck on the gum ball machine they have inside and get a smile face, you get a free scoop of icecream on the house, your choice. My son told me...mom look i had a gum with a smile face..thats how we found out. We just show them and pick our flavor. Parking can be limited through but where ever you park its a very short walk.
Horrible, horrible service and I have reasonably low standards. I have never been to a place with service as bad as this business and as a business should be ashamed of theirselves. Waited in line for a bit of a wait and when they didnt get one cone correct was told to go back in line. As if that wasnt bad enough they messed it up again and was told to go wait in line again. After arguing with the blonde male they refunded me and then reordered it and finally got it correct. This might have all been avoided if they actually printed the receipts or read the order back.
Mariannes is a Santa Cruz staple. The original one is on Ocean Street in Santa Cruz but this location has all the same flavors plus a neat little local corner that has beer, wine, jam, and other little local treats. If you want super rich, unhealthy, an delicious Santa Cruz ice cream but dont want to go all the way downtown this is the place for it.
Mariannes is the place for ice cream in Santa Cruz County. Nobody else even comes close. This is a local place with two locations , Aptos and Santa Cruz, that makes all their own ice cream. when I didnt live in the area and we came over here we always made a point to stop at Mariannes, its that good.
Mariannes ice cream tops my list of ice cream places. They have an amazing variety of ice cream and sherbet that theres something for everyone! My favorite is their green tea ice cream. Though I like Creams green tea ice cream, Mariannes tastes like matcha green tea; not overly sweet and a touch of slight bitterness. I also enjoy their butter brickle, horchata, cantaloupe...Ive never had a flavor I havent enjoyed.Mariannes can get busy at times (especially in the summer since its on the main road to Highway 17) and you will have to grab a number but its well worth the wait! Theres parking in the small lot they share with the liquor store (make sure you dont park in the spaces designated for the liquor store) and street parking. They also now offer Mariannes ice cream at the Pacific Cookie Company on Telegraph in Berkeley but the selection is so small that going to Santa Cruz to experience the true Mariannes is a must! I mean, you dont want to miss out on the singing cow wallpaper...
Mariannes is some of the best ice cream in town. Unique flavors and large servings. A Santa Cruz tradition. This is their second location in Aptos. This location takes credit cards! The line in Aptos is also usually much shorter than their other location. Parking is limited, but not usually a problem.
Please has most insane flavors of ice cream and so many to choose from all handmade places usually very packed with people but they do move the lines along quickly great place to bring your family friends or to just get a drink or something cold on a hot day I recommend this place highly
Loaded 6 of my grandkids into the pickup truck and set out for ice cream cones at the new Mariannes Ice Cream in Aptos. The shop was crowded when we arrived on Saturday afternoon but the wait was short. Each of us picked our favorite flavor and ordered cones. A pre-packed quart of Coffee Almond Fudge was also purchased for the family members left back home. Not a disappointment in the bunch. It was dead quite as we all enjoyed what might have been the best Ice Cream any of had tasted.Thank you Mariannes and welcome to Aptos!
Mariannes is a household name on the central coast. My supermarket sells Mariannes. However theres nothing quite like going to Mariannes in person and picking out your favorite flavor. My favorite is the Lavender and I can trust that every time I walk through the door of a Mariannes that theyll have it.

2022-04-25Pretty perfect. Not too sweet, the flavors really come through. Excellent texture. We tried the banana (never had banana ice cream before and was very skeptical),chocolate peanut butter cup and the coffee almond fudge. We loved them all. This is where we will come for our ice cream fix from now on.Its time for them to open the inside seating again, its getting kind of rediculous at this point.

2022-06-30Almost always a line... even in the dead of winter. And if you are avoiding dairy (or if you are having a dinner party and need something to cleanse the pallet before moving on to the main course) they make the best non-dairy sorbet - Ive had the pomegranate, mango, raspberry, and a few others that I cant think of at the moment - but... dont eat it too fast... youll get brain freeze (although well worth it).Great place thats very friendly and has excellent 🍨🍦!

2022-06-26This is the quintessential family run local business that has become a great success. Mariannes Ice Cream has an amazing variety of ice cream flavors (try 1020, Heaven or any of the fruit-based flavors). This is a perfect place to cool down after going to the beach.

2021-08-29So many delicious and unique flavors, over 100 to choose from. Whats nice is they organize the flavors into subcategories, so it makes it a bit easier to decide exactly what you want. All the staff were really friendly and helpful in picking out flavors, definitely recommend the Butter Brickle! Well worth the visit!

2022-01-18Awesome location. The old area and older buildings around it gives a nostalgic feeling like being back in the 50s or 60s. Huge variety of high quality ice cream is one of the best experiences eating out

2022-06-29Worth the wait! Cant wait to come back and try more flavors. We loved them all. So creamy and fluffy and tasty
