Excellent 👌 program by the Growing Women. Program was 30 minutes late starting, after one hour my body could not remain in the old worn 😈 seats. They passed out seat cushions at the beginning of the program. I hope someone makes a donation for new seats, soon.
Afro Pop Dance class Tuesday night at 7:20pm with Felipe or Philip is a funky groovy cool class. Music is fast, up beat and keeps you moving and grooving. Park on the street, not in the parking lot. Fun class, bring a towel, with some Gatorade or water with close you can move and sweat in.
Mama Naomis African dance class every Saturday 2:30 to 4pm...live drumming! The creme de la creme! You will be cleansed & rejuvenated for the entire week. Children welcome too! Class is affordable & children 12 & under are free & student discount for highschool & college. Prepare to get your LIFE!!

Went for an African dance class and had a lot of fun and got a lot of exercise!! There needs to be more directions or signs indicating where the class is and who is in charge, etc.
A good place to attend such as a Fashion show or play. Has a place for us to purchase snacks during the show or during the intermission.
Started here in the 80s after Everybodys Dance and Art Center closed. Originally the Alice Arts Center, it became the Malonga after our beloved Malonga Casquelord from the Congo was killed by a drunken driver not far from the building.
This place is ridiculous! Some of the classes have been cancelled for some time, yet no one has bothered to update the calendar. The doorman gives conflicting information. How do you run a facility with these practices?!?!
Great community space for art events. Loved the African Dance Conference happening there this weekend!

This place is small and intimate accommodates a medium type of crowd probably up to 75 to 100 people on one side.

2018-07-20Wonderful performing art featured by the inspiring youth of Oakland Ca. Colorful, cultural, and engaging circus acts that all will enjoy. Great pkace to see the Prescott Circus perform, sing, dance, and do authentic handbone routines. The staff are dedicated to their community and the children they serve. The coaches are amazing and the supportive sponsors are a strong backbone to keep this free event happening for our youth. 10 stars!!!!!

2019-12-16This is a very nice facility that serves the community, my kid took the multi-ethnic dance class and loved it. Ms.Carol is an awesome no non-sense dance instructor. Its an old building that could use a bit of cosmetic surgery if their are any donors looking for honest organizations to be charitable towards.

2021-04-19Great building, great events. My one complaint is that they always have their 4th floor bathroom lights on. As a next door neighbor, these lights can be a bit annoying when I’m trying to sleep.

2019-11-05This is an institution where the name may have changed over the years, but the game is still the same. A wonderful place dedicated to the arts....theater, dance and even a charter school for awhile. Make sure to visit the theater, or take one of the many dance classes...just dont miss it. It is truly a piece of irreplaceable culture and history in Oakland.

2020-01-10Great place. I love the kids dance & drumming classes, also the martial arts is pretty cool too. I have taken the adult zumba class and I felt like I had a 3 day work out.

2022-03-23My buddy stays there. They have SROs for artists (top floors of 6 story building). My friend is a musician. The rooms have a sink and closet. Bathrooms and laundry room are scattered about. Some rooms have their own bathroom ( a small percentage ). OH, A PERFORMANCE VENUE for the community is LOCATED ON THE GROUND FLOOR. FORMERLY THE ALICE CENTER.
