I came here for my first time I was very excited, until this rude lady took my order. She kept rolling her eyes huffing and puffing with bad attitude. Like if you don’t want to be there then don’t work. I didn’t get her name but next time I go I will gladly write another review with her name :) she made me not even trust my drink because she’s the one that made it. Bad service
Be warned, every other day this place is amazing as I’ve eaten here since childhood. The gentlemen Who work here really care about you enjoying your food and make quality burgers with a decent amount of sauce on a regular order. However sometimes bad employees who don’t care about or simply do not have the skill to make quality food are hired. If you see two women working behind the counter a short skinny one and a more portly woman, DO NOT ORDER FOOD! Your burger will come out more oily than a disgusting burger from McDonald’s and the buns will be soggy with oil. Additionally they will skimp on the sauce taking a knife and scraping the bread until the sauce is just barley visible and forget any special items you want to add. You will be eating 70% grease though and feel sick afterwards as happens a lot with a soggy oily McDonald’s hash brown. Now I’m nauseous, Should have had Carls Junior tonight.
This place has been around for a long time, theres always customers too. Ive always wanted to try this place. Looking at it from the road and in person are two completely perspectives. When you drive up it looks very old. The paint looks old school. Theres a big sign that says INSIDE DINING W/ AC. My wife and I went around the whole building while an older caucasian woman who was an employee stared at us not smiling or saying anything. My wife had to ask where the dining was. The employee replied that she has to open the door. Its at 1130am, shouldnt the door be open?We ordered our food. Theres a $1.25 charge for card, which is super high for 2019. I ordered 1 regular burger and mini K dogs and she did not tell me the total and charged me for 15 dollars. And then gave me back 5 dollars in cash without explaining why. Very weird experience for someone to charge your card higher than the price and not explain anything to you. I let it go since I knew the price before she charged me so it equaled out.The food was okay, nothing special; burger patty was small with a big bun. Theres some sauce packets inside. I wont be coming again. Didnt really feel welcomed and felt out of place. This place needs a lot of upgrades with the way it looks and feels. It also needs to not charge $1.25 to use a card, thats more than anything would charge you, theyre making profit off charging cards.
The burgers are OK the sauce is better.. fries are good. Hot link is ok. But be prepared to possibly come with cash because they only take Debit card and they charge a $1. 25 to use the debit card. The debit card machine says it takes Google pay Samsung pay Apple pay but it really doesnt .so unless you only have a hard copy of your debit card Id suggest you come with cash kind of an inconvenience beif it didnt inconvenience being that The Times we are in not everybody carries a debit card anymore. a lot of things are electronic and cardless
My long time friend owns this restaurant. I even worked in this restaurant for a short period of time. They really care about their regular customers . If you havent tried this place you dont know what youre missing they literally have a little bit of everything for everyone. Try the pastrami sandwich or one of their crazy good hamburgers. Milkshakes are off the hook!!
I wish I could find something good. 5-10 years ago..amazing. Great people on staff. Now its horrible. Requesting light sauce is futile. They dont listen, so, your burger is swimming in dressing. At least they have always been consistent in over frying fries and mushrooms.
The burger itself had good flavor and the star of the show was the bacon. Fries were pretty good. Glad they serve pepsi. The burger can be a bit greasy and gives you heart burn. The grease also made my stomach uneasy for about an hour after..Ive had many burgers in my life I think the bacon burger still worth a try.
I love this place! I think Ive finally found the best blackberry shake in the state 🥤 🥰 🥤. Its definitely in the top 3. Maybe I need to try Connies and Elkins Frosty again, just to be sure my memory is fresh.... 😁 And the rest of their food is just as good, and theres something for everyone. They even have PB&J 🥜🍇🥪 for the kiddos. If you like HUGE (up to 44oz) thick shakes, hand made with real ice cream & chunks of real fruit that get stuck in the straw, and/or old fashioned Frosty type food made by someone who knows their way around a greasy (in the best way) grill, then you need to make the trip to Lous on Watt. Its worth the drive, no matter how far.
Check out my mushroom burger....wow,...I got 3 mushrooms....no i got a slice of a mushroom and 3 little pieces of a mushroom.....then i flipped it over.....really???!!!We spend $26.00 on fries ,onion rings and a double cheeseburger, and that mushroom burger......... bummer it wasnt good....
Ive been going here since I was a kid and my mother has been going here since she was a kid. They have the best burgers in town. I definitely recommend going here. Service is a tad slow but thats because theres only like two people that work here, is family owned and operated. If you do go get the Lous Burger! They make delicious shakes too!
I used to love this place and their veggie burger but I went last week and they seemed to intentionally give me a meat burger and it was super expensive not to mention “the best milkshake” is no more. What I had was a watery cup of barely chocolate milk. It’s a disappointment this place means a lot to me and my family and I’m bummed the food isn’t good anymore.
I wish I couldn’t give them a star AT ALL ! Rude people, I ordered onion rings and two grilled chicken sandwich’s I got my order with their nasty fries … she tried to say I said fries lol I don’t eat fries from them they taste like cheap freezer burnt fries… she said I don’t know what to tell you, I wasn’t offered any compensation and she laughed at me she was old with grey hair short… lady in back had a major attitude to! My family has come here for YEARS and never have any of us ever experienced such a rude encounter !!!
Ive been driving by this place for most of my life but never tried it. I really wanted to love it. I was disappointed with the fries because they were slightly undercooked and were not salted. There was no salt in the bag either. Also, the flavors of the hamburger were delicious, however, the bun was way too big for the size of the patty which mostly felt like a mouthful of bread. Service was outstanding and the ladies I dealt with were amazing. I was just disappointed in the food. I will probably give it another chance.
Use to love this place, now i will never return or recommend it. waited 30 minutes for 2 shakes while people after order & received there food orders. when i asked how much longer the woman was rude & talked down to me. i asked for my money back, she replied get away from my window.
This is just a little diner on the side of the road, but thats usually the best kind. And this seemed to be one of those. We only got medium size ice cream cones ( upside down in a bowl to help control the mess) but they both had a whole lot of ice cream 🍦 in them and the price was very cheap too!
If you drive by and see cars in the parking lot, do not stop. You will be waiting for an hour and the person who ordered before you will have been gone with their food for 20 minutes before you get your food. I saw 4 people who ordered after me leave with their food and I was still there for 15 more minutes. The staff is very rude and will treat you like youre the one who did something wrong. Extreme audacity.
Loved it! The fries are excellent and the burgers are excellent as well. I will be going back until I try everything on the menu!!! So that was my first experience. I went there this evening 10/8/2020 at 8:30 pm and they close at 9:00 pm. There was 1 person ahead of me ordering and the lady turned down our business because they are closing in 30 minutes. My money was no good there! Not green enough I guess! That is BS! Lazy employee. I will never go there again no recommend their establishment to friends or family due to the inconvenience! I took my business to Dennys where theyre double cheeseburgers with fries never disappoint!
Worst food ever, extremely overpriced for terrible quality and even worse customer service. I thought for the price I was paying it would at least taste fresh but absolutely not. Better off going to mcdonalds. The customer service really brought it down as well. The fries tasted freezer burnt.
Burgers and shakes bomb dot com!!There is something special about a walk up to the window to order hamburger stand that for some unknown reason is always a hit. Lous Drive has been doing whatever it is for them to last for 60+ years!! From their burgers to their shakes youre always in for a treat. I just had a double burger and fries that was so good that writing this review has me tempted to go grab another for lunch today. Little helpful hint save a few fries for after youre done eating your burger to dip in the juices and sauce leftover in the bottom of the wrapper. You can thank me later for this one. Hahaha. Also burgers come standard with lettuce and sauce. You have to request to have pickles tomatoes and or onions added to your burger. They do ask if you like them and there is no added cost to you as for it helps them save by not assuming everyone wants any of the items. Passing the saving on to us. Now lets move on the shakes. I had probably the best and I do mean BEST milkshake Ive ever had. Instead of getting my usual Peanut Butter milkshake I had ,what I call the PB&J of milkshakes, Peanut Butter with Blackberries shake. Oh man did that have me doing the happy dance as I was enjoying this shake! Trust me when I tell you that if youre hungry and in the North Highlands area give Lous a try. Its very much worth the try.
Little place. Fantastic food. Polite staff. So two complaints. The milkshakes were great but the straw was way too small. The fruit was too large and blocked the straw. The fries were too done and for those of us who are on a low sodium diet all that salt is not good. Maybe no salt at all. I would with out a doubt recommend this place to a friend or anyone else for that matter.
They have great Classic California burgers, fries and shakes here. They make all the food fresh upon order. The service is fast, but make sure to bring cash, otherwise you will have to pay a surcharge. I like to call ahead so I dont have to wait outside or in the car. The prices are mostly reasonable.
Big manly size Burgers the way we like it. They also serve pastrami sandwiches and Shakes as well. One of the last few burger joints that you can actually call A real Burger. I got to admit it is a little pricey with the fries but its well worth it at the end of the day. One of the few burger joints that I actually can say I ate and felt full at the end.
I would have loved to give it no stars but I gave it the one just so I can leave my review. We came here trying a new place to us and found that the menu was very confusing and so was pricing ( 2 burgers+2 shakes+ 1 onion rings=25.00. then we get our food and are sitting in the car eating and another customer taps our window and tells us that the lady wanted us, I went to the window because the lady realized she had given us another customers order which she requested back. I laughed and took the burger to her (still in disbelief)! Lets not forget the sauce that is supposed to be like thousand island dressing when actually, its like mayo, mustard and like a squirt of ketchup with the lettuce mixed in. I was behooved! But...... If you want a good milkshake, the pancake palace is right next door because mine was freezer burned!
I will be honest and state that the food here is delicious. I came a few months ago on a whim and was greeted with a smile. Food was prompt and fresh. The family and I decided today to go again, however we thought it best to call ahead for a pickup. Someone answered my phone call with “We are open but we are too busy to take orders. Sorry.” *Click*That prompted us to go to another restaurant to order and will not be returning. The issue I see is that if you are THAT busy on Saturday night to be rude to people, then I would suggest hiring an additional person to answer phones with proper customer service on your peak hours. I can guarantee you’ll make the revenue to cover the labor expenses and ensure return business. Thanks!
Very poor made food nice people. But the food is just no good. If they took there time and made the food it would be great but it seems like they rush. Cooking it. But still take long time to serve it to you. They made my girl a milkshake I left it sitting for 15 minutes until they gave us our order we order are food. And they didnt even give me my soda till after they made the food
I stopped by Lous yesterday (Sunday, 7/12/20) for an ice cream cone. I could see a guy and girl inside, but the order window was blocked off. There was a gentleman sitting in a truck and he said they were taking a break. So I waited..and waited..finally, several more folks pulled in and a customer went to the window and tried to talk to the lady inside, but no answer. We saw the guy come outside and light up a cigarette. We asked him if they were closed and he said yes, they were closed for their State Mandated Break. We asked what time they were going to open, and he said at 2:30. Well, it was 2:10 and I sure wasnt waiting 20 minutes in 100 temps for an ice cream cone. I get that breaks are important, but if theres no way you can schedule staff to allow for breaks without closing down, at the very least, you should put a sign on the front window to let folks know whats going on. I saw at least 5 cars come and go during this time. Extremely poor customer service, but it really didnt seem like they were too concerned about the customers. In this economy and during this pandemic, thats just poor business practice.
Food was sub-par at best, only 1 employee was wearing a mask, cook was eating while making food, they werent requiring customers to wear masks. So obviously it was a crowded porch area filled with maskless people...overall today was my last time ever going to Lous because of this experience...would recommend going almost anywhere else.
Been here once. It was a interesting experience. The burgers are unique and made a bit different. Its worth a visit. The experience is different, you pull up to the building and park. It was a cold day so I waited in the car for my order, and I think that added to my overall experience. If you like burgers, I recommend this place. And their fries are crinkle cut fries.
The burgers here are not bad, I liked the fries and onion rings as well. Dont get the chilli burger if you dont like sweeter chili on your burger, I like a more zesty chilli on my burger. My fiance found a big hair in her burger and it ruined the experience for her so we have not been back ever since.
Been here once and while it was alright and everything, it kind of disappointed me compared to what I expected... The way some people talk about this place, I was expecting to be giving it five stars, but in the end it seemed just good enough... Well see. Ill give it another try one day and maybe Ill revise this review, but for now its just a solid three.
What a great place! This is more of an old-fashioned drive-in, with hamburgers that are huge, messy, and impossible to eat without protecting your clothes first. I used to go here when my kids were young, and its still a great place to visit. Great hamburgers, milkshakes, and a fun place to get away from some of the other typical fast food places. Bring yourbib!
Very kind girl who took our order. The fresh banana shake is the best Ive ever had! The burgers are a little messy, but theyve got a lot of meat. The grill cheese could have had enough cheese to make it to each end of the bread but it wasnt greasy or heavy. There was no line tonight.
Great burgers! They are so big you can save 1/2 of it for a light dinner or a late night snack. Very generous with the Frys and the shakes can be made with whatever flavors they have available. The only thing I need to remember is to check my receipt after ordering and pay attention to pricing. Sticker shock, lol but worth the outing.
$1.25 charge for using a card, so bring cash.Polite employees, mostly. They do not provide free water, you have to purchase a bottle of water instead...Chicken Basket for $5.50 is an amazing price. Filled me up nice.Milk shake flavor (raspberry) wasnt strong, but seeds in it tell me it was legit raspberry. They forgot to add the pineapple slice to my Teryaki Burger, but it was still delicious. There is an indoor seating area, doors to the left. There is more parking around back.
We use to order from here a couple times per month and LOVED their food. One day, when we picked up our call in we found that the meat patties on our burger were near paper thin. When my wife called to ask what had happened the staff response was rude and hung up on her. Will not be giving them our business again, sad after years of loyalty.
These are probably some of the better burgers youll find in North Highlands. Prepared in a traditional sense as far as the history of fast food burgers go, these contain the right amount of fatty goodness you would want in a burger. The buns are buttery and toasted before serving and the meat is cooked to your preference. The onion rings are excellent and the milkshakes are perfect for dipping your french fries into (if that is your thing). The only issue that I have is that if you dont eat your burger fast enough, it will become soggy and very messy. You may need a bib if you take longer than 30 minutes to consume. It also becomes a bit pricey. They will charge you extra money to use their credit system (no debit) which is a bit annoying, but is easy to avoid if you come prepared with cash. Expect to spend $10-$15 per person.
The lady is so rude here, horrible customer service and the food is overrated! Dirty ran down burger stand. What do you expect its north highlands! Called in a $60 order and was told they are to busy to take my order! Never again! Dont waste your time or money! Go to granites in rio linda if you want a good burger!
Finally tried this place after driving by it for years... didnt know its been here since the 60s. The lady was very friendly and the food was pretty good, at least as good if not better than what youd expect from an old school Burger&Shake/Drive-in burger joint. Plus they have lots of good options to choose from.
This is another of my old time favorite hamburger stands if you like an old style juicy hamburger then this is the place for you Ive been here several times and its always the same hot and juicy at a fair price they have a lot to offer on there menu but I cant seem to get past there double cheese burger and Frys and with a milkshake its hard to finish it all so give Lous a try I think you will agree its a good old fashioned burger....
Too long of a wait to order. When we finally got our food they gave my chili cheese frys to someone else. They made me new ones but the frys were burnt! I ordered a teriyaki burger and when I went to eat it I noticed that there was no sauce on it. It was slathered in mayonnaise and onions terrible burger. My wife ordered a simple cheese burger! When she went to eat she noticed that it was drenched in this nasty mustard relish! I ordered an Arnold Palmer and the lady taking the order didnt know what that was! Overall not impressed with this place. In hindsight we should have went next door to the pancake palace way better food and cheaper price.
When I found out about this place, I really wanted it to be a great burger place with awesome food because its so close to our house and has a great, old, drive in feel to it. Sadly, the food was mediocre at best. The meat tasted like a pre-made, frozen patty, that they smothered in too much mustard sauce (probably to try and hide the taste of low quality meat). The crinkle cut fries were nothing special and (just like the other reviewers said) the milk shakes were very thin; as if little to no ice cream was used. Adding insult to injury, for my boyfriend and I to each have a burger and shake, share a large fry and one order of fried mushrooms, cost us $22.00!Dont get me wrong, if its an amazing burger, I would gladly pay that much. Unfortunately, the food we had here was far from amazing and we were very disappointed.
I used to love Lous but lately it has horrible service and it seems the lady is always rude. I was there tonight and have to say a 2 year old could have counted change better she tried to give me a couple pennies and call it good when she owed me almost 3 dollars. I called the lady on it and still didnt get correct change. This is the second time this same woman has done this and I wont be back. I hope the owner is ready for retirement because your employees are going to put you there early.
Yuck. I like the idea of a classic hole-in-the-wall burger stand with an old style menu that has plastic letters, but I want the food to be good. I got a hamburger and thought it was gross. They put a mustardy sauce on it that ended up being the main flavor, pushing the beef into the background. Not good.
The last time I went here I ordered a double cheeseburger but was given a single hamburger, among other things the food is not as good as it once was, the burgers taste like frozen burgers and they charge an outrageous atm fee. The fries are decent but thats about the highlight... Also as others have said the food is pricey for what you get.
My husband said, Oh lets stop they have really good burgers here! He remembers from 12 years ago! And I thought well alright must be doing something right, lots of cars in front.Service was okay, cigarette smoke hung heavy in the air as we chokingly stepped up to order. The front and counter were old worn and dirty, They have an inside dining room which smells and looks worse than the outside! We ordered burgers and chili frys and a Coke then asked to use the restroom, and were told sorry bathroom is broken! I thought how do you wash your hands? So we walked over and used the one next door. After a long wait we got our food. Burgers, consisted of some kind of chewy preformed meat Patty, chopped up lettuce and at least 1/4 cup of something that resembled Thousand Island dressing on two bunsChili frys, were okay just some pre frozen crinkle frys and some sort of chili on top, except they microwaved them and had cold and hot spots. We were very hungry so we ate part of the food, and my husband apologized and we will leave it at that!
Dont listen to the negative reviews im 37 and been coming here since i was like 16, this place wouldnt still be here if they werent delicous. This place is most definately on par with dairy queen. The area does suck i mean its watt avenue and 2019 but the food and service is good. Give it a try i dont think youll be dissapointed. Oh and usually its a small staff so if theres a few people in front of you, just be a little patient, they cook to order.
The burgers used to be ok. Then they thinned them down until you had to get a double to get a reasonable amount of meat for $5. Just now I asked for a side salad and the nice counter girl said they dont have salads but will ask the cook.I listened as she asked. The cook said we dont have salads. I said its not busy. Do you have lettuce and tomatoes? Yes we do but I wont make a salad for you. This was was an opportunity for the cook to have positive customer interaction but failed. Her choice turned a 5 rating into a 1.
After getting my food a homeless guy comes up to the Window and ask if Lous would heat up his hot pocket and you guys did, not knowing where he got that hot pocket. That was good enough for me. Ill never step foot in your doors again. And you guys deep fried it. Unbelievable ! and your food was so good too.
Used to be much better...both food and customer service!! The quality of food went down and prices went up quite a bit! They do have a large choice of flavors for the milkshakes on the plus side, but over all I will choose to go to another place in the future. Pretty much disappointed😣
My Mom worked here in High School,She moved away. Then when I had my kids I came to North Highlands..Weve been eating here for the last 20yrs.We all love the double cheese burgers and the kids really love the shakes and deep fried burritos. When my Dad comes from Oregon he has to eat at Lou s,he loves the deep fried mushrooms.and fried zucchini ...Over all we love Lou s...
If you want a school cafeteria lunch then this is the place.... the corndogs are literal corndogs you buy at wallmart and so are the French fries. Burger Pattys are extreamly thin and over cooked giving them a rough texture. The shake was freezer burnt.... my mother in law works at a elementary school cafeteria and she also compared it to her school lunches they feed kids..... all in all very disappointing..... update: its been 11 hours since I ate some of that food (only took a few bites and threw away most of it)and Im feeling very sick, puked all morning.
I recently gave Lous a bad review due to a burger without cheese and way too much onions.Well, I decided to bring it back to Lous. They totally took care of it when they saw it.Robert, the owner was there behind the grill and made my burger himself.YUM YUM! Hadnt had a good burger in a long time! 😋👍👍
Lous Burgers is our first and last stop when we travel to the Sacramento area and if we stay around for awhile we hit Lous up as often as possible(and Jimboys Tacos). Weve been eating Lous Burgers since 1958. Same building without renovations ever since. The Auburn Blvd location was okay but lacked the ambiance of a true, old school, burger joint. In-N-Out Burgers is a pale rip off of Lous and certainly lacks the flavor. Same owner that gives the local Junior and High School kids a start at employment. Everybody has an opinion and its sad to hear the cookie cutter patrons degrade an institution that has endured for close to 60 years in the age of flavorless and, often times, questionable big franchise fare. Good stuff, Lous is and worth the drive to North Highlands for a blast from the past burger and the best fries anywhere. Kudos!!!
I ordered a swiss cheese mushroom burger. What I ended up with was a TOTAL ONION burger with no cheese and maybe 7 lil mushrooms. So dry. How can they charge $5 for a thin burger, with nothing but onion, a couple of mushrooms and NO CHEESE!In and out burger does that for less. What happened to Lous Burger?
Was not a pleasant experience called in for order they said 15 minutes got their check in in 10 minutes told my pay for when it was ready 35 minutes later it was ready and it was cold they said they called but I was sitting right outside the window I dont know what happened but I was not pleased
Worst customer service ive experienced all year. Stood waiting for over ten minuts without anyone aknowleging us or taking our order. We went to every window, only to be stared at and not helped. Employees were helping other customers as they ignored us. We went to the pancake place next door and got sat down in less than a minute
I thought the food was terrible it tastes like a thrown together hamburger made from left overs. I say this for being a Lous Burgers the food wasnt as good as the other Lous burgers in different locations that Ive eaten. I wouldnt recommend anybody going eating at this location

2022-03-14I have been coming here for years. The food is great. The selection of milkshakes is awesome.I love the old 50s 60s feel to the drive in.I have yet to have something there that I dislike! My two favorites are the Classic Single with cheese and bacon and the pastrami sandwich (with pickles). My son LOVES the fries.Yum!They serve Pepsi... I am more of a Diet Coke or Coke Zero guy but the diet Pepsi hits the spot too!

2022-06-151st and last time will be coming here. I sent my teenage daughter and sister to pick up my our call in order. The lady was extremely rude to my daughter looking at her up and down and gave her a nasty attitude. I sent them with a cc not knowing that they didnt take them cus they didnt answer the phone after hanging up on me after 1st placing the order. Then they came to my sisters car to tell her they dont take cc and its illegal to have my cards which she had no business coming to her car my daughter already told her. If I would have known they were so rude I would have never sent my daughter back with cash to pick up the food. After Finally getting the food (which was way overpriced) it was disgusting. The meat was dry and overcooked with a huge bun. It tasted like straight mustard and lettuce. The fries were so Soggy with a lot of salt. The Food went in garbage. Waste of time and money. I would not recommend this place.

2022-07-06Been coming here for years would never think I’d be writing an1 star review. First time ever in my life walked up an waited more then 10min to get my order took after she looked at me an finished talking came to the window was extremely rude when taking my order then tells me “just tell me how manny you want” when each burger had different toppings then when my food is down it’s cold an it doesn’t have any of the toppings I asked for…..to the older blond lady that took my order I will never in my life come back to this place if you are working you are a horrible person an just down right shouldn’t work at a family owned restaurant sincerly art the third 😂😂

2022-05-01Definitely an unknown prize. Lous came up in a search for burgers near my location. Its an OG burger place with burgers, pastramis, chili cheese fries, malts, shakes, etc. It is definitely popular to those who kno....there was a steady stream of customers. Food was on point, burger was very good size, tasted fresh, with a soft cushiony bun. Onion rings were very good altho on the pricey size for the portion. Nonetheless highly recommend. They only accept debit card and cash; there is a $1.25 fee to use your debit card.

2020-02-02Took a chance stopping in here going past on business as the exterior of the place is in need of some TLC. Turns out, this was a good move as the two ladies working the order window and the grill were super pleasant. It was a simple order..... I said, whats the best I can get here. Cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate milkshake. All three items were great. Place has been at this location over 60 years. Something has to be said about that. Would recommend.

2021-04-29I was driving by and saw the place was pretty busy so i stopped hoping for something better than McDonalds because Id Mcfricken had it with the same old over priced menu. Omg I was not disappointed !!! My double cheeseburger was huge , crinkle fries perfect and peach milkshake thick and refreshing. They have a great menu and reasonable prices as well.

2022-06-14Good old fashion outdoor indoor burger join. But no bathroom or hand washing station. A little thin meat but big around. Can order double or triples.
