The tacos blew my mind. So delicious, juicy, flavorful and tender asada. I am surprised how delicious it was. The rice is also perfect, its made almost exactly like my moms, with the perfect texture, right amount of seasoning, not too red and not too orange..This is definitely gonna be my new spot when Im in town, I would highly recommend them.
Love love love Lolas!Lolas!! Such good food! Love the owners! Kind people! Dont be intimidated by the outside! The inside is always decorated amazingly and extremely clean!!! Def give Lolas a try...you wont be disappointed! The food is so delicious..their Carne asada is sooo good. Love their Puerto Rico Tacos and Their Carne Asada Salad!
Stopping in Barstow for fuel and a bite to eat. Googling places to eat, my wife and I came across this little hole in the wall restaurant. Four hundred and sixty something reviews and still holding on to a 4.6 star rating was promising.Im writing this review before even getting my food. So far the staff is friendly. I will update once I eat.Update: Food was good, facility was clean and like I wrote before, the staff was friendly. The to-go menu claims that its the best mexican food from the coast to Vegas; I wouldnt necessarily make that claim but I would say that it might be the freshest. This food actually taste like its good for you. This place is worth visiting if youre passing through.
Omg, talk about the best Mexican food ever and just like mom used to cook. Service was friendly and fast. Most items on the menu run from $8-$11, but good portions and delicious. When we pass by barstow again we are for sure stopping here again. They do a large carry out business also. There must be a reason this place has been around 20+ years.
By automobile, Barstow is exactly half-way between San Diego and Las Vegas, a logical recharging point on that trips 5 hour drive up Interstate 15, as it is the last pocket of civilization before a 115 mile journey through barren lands with no songs before you hit the Nevada border. Now that Ive discovered Lolas, I have an excuse to get more than just gas in Barstow. To keep it real, this is not life-changing Mexican cuisine and, in fact, in San Diego itd be just a smidgen above average -- but Lolas should be considered a culinary oasis in Californias so-called high desert of the sparse and arid Mojave Desert region.Your meal will start with thick complimentary corn tortilla chips and a spicy salsa roja puréed until smooth. The important question is how many chip basket refills do you want to stuff yourself with before you start eating your actual food. Speaking for myself, I seemingly have a bottomless stomach for these. The Chile Colorado at Lolas is carne deshebrada made with shredded beef brisket stewed in a mild but pleasant chile-infused tomato sauce. The beef is tough in some bites, silky in others, and a bit of both mostly. The corn tortillas that are provided on the side are not homemade or handmade. Yet this is a situation where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, as the dish works for me as a kind of home-cooked style dish youd get from a grandma. An item on the menu exists called Joses Puerto Rican Taco. It is a taco that consists of carne asada beef, avocado, pico de gallo, and queso fresco on a corn tortilla. I dont know who Jose is, nor do I know what makes this relatively standard-issue carne asada taco Puerto Rican, but I do know a tasty taco when I have one, and this qualifies. The well-seasoned tender beef, chunks of avocado, and fiery chopped jalapeño chilies (from the pico mix) combine harmoniously to take you where you need to go.
The food is some of the freshest Ive ever had, they also bring it to you moments after it was done cooking! Easily one of the top 5 burritos Ive ever had. Staff is friendly and quite quick to respond to requests for napkins or more chips. Im so disappointed they dont have one of these near where I live, Id come here regularly if I could!
I am working in Barstow from our of town and decided to grab a quick burrito after work. I ordered a carne asada burrito and it was one of the biggest burritos I have ever had. Everything was fresh tasting, hot and a perfect balance. I cant remember when I have been this excited about a burrito. This place is legit.
AWESOME!Oh yeah its hot and spicy, but just incredible authentic flavor. There are many places that just want to burn your taste buds, this place wants to tickle them, and lather those puppies with capsaicin.Multiple levels, pretty much all with flavor if you know your peppers.
Located in a worn down looking plaza in an almost non visable corner. Outside the restaurant was bleak but once inside it lit up with color and traditional Mexican decor and seating. The place is extremely small and I do not recommend bringing in personal belongings as the tables are so close together. You order at counter even for dine in while you wait they bring you out chips and salsa which were ok. Menu selection is reasonable and prices seem standard. We had the Gloria special Atkins friendly Carne Asada was delicous. Chicken (green sauce was spicy) but it seemed to lack a bit of flavor.
I had a breakfast burrito with Chorizo and eggs potatoes and sausage. Totally delicious. The restaurant was very clean and I looked back in the kitchen was immaculate. I noticed all the cooks were ladies all smiling and happy to be there. I highly recommend this little place you will not be disappointed.
Delicious food in a very pleasant atmosphere. They even took care to present the food nicely, which is rare at places as affordable as this.I had the enchiladas verdes, and my partner had the chicken tacos. We both enjoyed them thoroughly. We would definitely stop by again when passing through the area.
Traveling from Sequoia National Forrest to Vegas we found this place not too far off of Route 15, and it was so worth it! --Fresh, homemade, super tasty food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Definitely a must if youre looking for some delish wholesome food in your travels!
I loved this place while living in the area about ten years ago. I always make sure to stop by whenever Im in the area since Ive moved away and am looking to move back. The people are nice and the food is absolutely awesome. Would highly recommend whenever in the area.
I have been working in Barstow for about 15 years and I have always gone there for my breakfast burritos chorIzo and eggs the best in the high desert I know my burrito and I drive from Victorville to Barstow just to buy these awesome breakfast burritos and the chili reminds me of my abuelas chili delicious food there. So next time your driving to LAS VEGAS stop in and try this breakfast burrito its the bomb 😋.
BEST Mexican food stop in town !!Came here 3 days in a row at different times each dayAll 3 days,, carne asada nachos were delicious in flavor with fresh ingredients, and presentation made my eyes joyful.Customer service is fast and efficient. The owner and staff are kind.Very clean and stylish environment.Love the tint on store fronts windows. It allows for sense of privacy while chewing your food lol
Perfect taco shop. Kitchen full of ladies working hard. I could go on but Im gonna get back to eating. I just had to review this place. Bean toastada and cali burrito were the perfect order for me this time. Saving this on my Google maps for the next time I head back this way from San diego
Got takeout here. It was 116 degrees and we were on our way home in an RV from Vegas. BUT, no one was wearing masks (in fairness, the 2 abuelas cooking everything were). So we got takeout. Carnitas were delicious, although my wife thought she ordered burritos, and when we got to the van, everything was separate and there was a package of tortillas...
The reviews of the green sauce got me all excited so I got enchiladas with green sauce. They were weird. I think if I got in the shredded beef I would have been happier. I did a mix of cheese and should it beef and the cheese enchiladas were like thick tortillas rolled up around nothing and soaked in sauce. There were some kind of cooked onions that were a little crunchy, which I started out not liking and I ended up liking them. Did I say it was weird? The rice was a little undercooked and flavor made me want to avoid it. The beans were a great consistency I had to fight had some really good enchiladas I would have been very happy with the beans as a side. Yeah, weird.
Whoooa! This is for sure a hidden gem! No non fast food places were open in Baker (Even Mad Greek was closed....TF..) So if were going to upend our hunger a bit longer and hold out for Barstow wes gon have us some MEXICAN!Wifey found Lolas on Yelp, had great reviews and star factor. First off....area is MAD GHETTO, vagrants walking around, people sleeping in their cars, random crazies milling about and randos playing musical cars in the parking lot. But IDGAF wes hungry and dont mind people watching from the comfort of inside the spot. Two super nice and chill old ladies are the servers, we were greeted and handed menus, I ordered the bean burrito with chicken yum yum. Food tasted fresh and very authentic, their house hot sauce they serve with the chips is bomb. Owner checked on us if we were good, great service. If I were to have a negative, it would only be that they charge for a cup of water and $1 fee for credit card, definitely not worth giving less stars though and worth it given the great food they serve. If your putting along I15 and passing Barstow its def worth a stop as we will for sure be visiting this random gem on the other side of Main Street!
Yeah these are not authentic Mexican burritos. Theyre the whitewashed version that have sour cream, beans and rice in them. We stopped by yesterday and requested Carne Asada burritos with no onions. To our surprise, we opened it up and wouldnt you know it jam packed with onions. Hasta parece que le dije echale un chingo de cebolla. No receipt either to verify that we requested no onions but the lady at the front sure did yell out our order and said no onions to the cooks. Im sure they wouldve fixed it but why bother.
First off, the prices are outrageous. I understand people have to survive but the prices here are doubled if not triple any similar food spot. With that being said the food is not bad and yet not amazing maybe a 6 or 7 out of 10 (also charged extra for green sauce but not red) I was told after I ordered, but the customer service was less than satisfying . So to sum it up the customer service was a down thumbs, food was pretty good but not for the price they put on it.
I loved Lola’s kitchen!!! It is such a great place to grab breakfast. I live an hour out of the way but I don’t mind the occasional trip out there for a meal. Great customer service and great food, there’s not much else to ask for! I will definitely go again. I tried the green chile enchiladas with potatoes, no cheese no sour cream and it came out perfectly!!!
I have very much enjoyed eating here each time I do. Jennys across the street gets more attention, but I suspect Lolas has the better food.Today I visited by accident. Lolas is in a SoCal strip mall, I was taking my tiny dog to get her claws clipped at the Furry Friends groomers next door, kinda spacing out, got to the counter with employees all raving about how cute my dog is before realizing they dont do that at the groomers, & good heavens, I just wandered into a restaurant with my dog!
The service here was friendly and pretty fast. Food here tasted very fresh and not greasy at all. The portion size is pretty generous too. I ordered the carne asada burrito with cheese and it really hit the spot. This place is definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the mood for Mexican food.
Food doesnt get much better than this! I absolutely loved the beef enchiladas and my husband enjoyed his burrito. The staff is friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Also, the food came out in no time and is inexpensive. Were going to have to make this our regular stop whenever going to/from Vegas!!
The BEST food, service, staff and prices out of all the known restaurants! They have a cozy and clean atmosphere, everyone working there are friendly and helpful. Even on the busiest of days they still have the greatest service. Youll never be disappointed when choosing this exceptional & exquisite eatery!
Lolas is a charming little place, with delicious food at good prices. Additionally, you can tell that the place was decorated by someone who appreciates beauty. I had the breakfast burrito, which was tasty, yet spicier than I expected. Nonetheless, it was well within the realm of pleasantly spicy. I recommend that you stop here if you like dining in a place with character that serves authentic and scrumptious dishes!
My husband and I were driving from Texas and stopped to get a quick bite on our way up California. What a delicious breakfast! He had the eggs with chorizo & I had the chilaquiles with carne asada. Very filling and so good! Service was very friendly and we got our food so fast. Best Mexican food I’ve ever had at a restaurant thus far. It’s a quaint little restaurant located in the middle of town. I highly recommend!!
We like a lot going out. Yesterday we visited this superb restaurant which friends told us about. We passed a beautiful time there with great dishes and a professional stuff and a professional cook. We added this fine restaurant in our list and we shall definitely go again soon. We warmly recommend.
I love this place. I’ve been eating here for the last 15 years. Each time I travel, I make it a goal to stop and eat at this place. Please start serving on Sundays. I was so bombed that I drove thru town and you weren’t open. I rate this place 5 stars. This family owned company always makes me feel welcomed and serves excellent authentic Mexican food.
Seemed more like Tex Mex than authentic Mexican. Customer service was great, however. I can see how and why they would cater to their customers who wouldnt really tell the difference between authentic and Americanized dishes. I think its the best you can get in the area.
Delicious Mexican food in a comfortable atmosphere. We were passing through on our way to Vegas, and wanted some local cuisine. The owners made us feel at home, and asked where we were coming from. Were all pretty sensitive to spice, so we asked for the food to be made mild, which it absolutely was. I had the carne asada burrito, which was excellent. The steak was tender, well cooked and very tasty. Its a small place, but it was clean, well kept, and run by people who know what theyre doing. There were a few others in the restaurant, mostly locals and others passing through. I would definitely recommend the place to anyone coming through the area.
Excellent food. Small place in a strip mall, so its easy to miss. It is very busy, so seating may be limited, but we still got a table quickly. Prices are good and service was very good. Bring cash just in case, as when we went they were not processing credit/debit cards. Well worth the stop, though.
Wonderful homey little place to enjoy good mexican food and delightful, friendly service while sitting among cheerful locals. If youre new, go right up to the counter, grab a menu, find an open table, and sit down to read and decide. Then go back to the counter to place your order. Theyll bring you delicious food and youll be happy you came.
Really amazing! We spent the night in Barstow and were blown a way by this place! We tried A LOT and everything was stellar. Tortillas are fresh and all the tacos are solid, we liked the pulled beef the most. We had the enchiladas with verde sauce and that was amazing! But our favorite was the Chile reano. We love them and this one was great, really amazing sauce and very light egg. Also the chips and salsa are awesome the salsa is SPICY which i love but be careful.
This really is a great little restaurant! The chips are thicker type chips and soooo good! Beans are really tasty as well which means anything with beans in it is particularly delicious. All the types of meat we got were well flavored and moist. So glad we gave it a try!!
Great food, best to pay cash and bring your own water bottle in. We love stopping here, and theyre pretty quick. Doesnt take that much more time than in n out. They do have a dollar service charge for credit cards, and I think they charge for cups for water.I got the Gloria special, basically a burrito salad, husband got the huevos rancheros, and the kids split the nachos with carnitas. Everyone was very satisfied. They also give you chips and salsa with the meal if customers eat in. Great way to break up the drive from LA to Vegas.
I went on a 12 days road trip from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Arcata, California. i visited many cities and stopped at countless restaurants. i must say that i was very fortunate to have come in to Lolas Kitchen. This is the only place that stood out, great food and super customer service. a five start review does not do justice to this awesome place.
Best place in Barstow for authentic Mexican food! When all you have are older ladies in the kitchen (Grandmas) you know the food is going to be great. They are kind and loving to customers and will definitely be back again soon! I had the carne asada tacos and Chilaquiles with carne asada, rice, beans and two eggs over easy. Love it!
Genuine Mexican food. Pleasant folk going out of their way to please. Open very early. Frequented mostly by friendly local. Plain and simple strip mall venue.Mostly takeout but some sitting space. Locals volunteered to rearrange their sitting to accommodate our large family. We. always visit when were in the area.
I really enjoyed my meal, I had a carne asada burrito wet 🌯plate with beans and rice. I also ordered a small coke. Unfortunately the price was a whopping $17.00 and change. They also charge $1.00 for using your atm card. And again unfortunately I didnt have any cash on me. They were super sweet and very hospitipal. Their restaurant has really interesting art work on its wall and the restrooms are very clean, but I am not going back. I cant afford them. Sorry.
Beat food ever! Fresh fresh fresh. The green sauce: I could eat by the bowl full. My adult children have moved out of California, but one of the things they have to do when they are home for a visit is go to Lolas. I usually order a veggie burrito and every bite is so good it’s hard to not make obnoxious noises of mmmmm mmmmm mmmmmm while I eat. The place is also stylish and clean. A must go!
This was our first time there. Probably our last. When we arrived, it appeared to be a normal sit-down restaurant. We were given menus and salsa, but as the gal was walking away, I asked for water and was given a very rude look for asking. I looked at my husband and we both wondered what I said so wrong as to warrant such a look. After looking at the menus for a while, still no water, and no one saying anything to us, I went up to the register and asked if I was supposed to order at the register. I was told yes. So that answered a lot of questions but I was so confusing at first on what was going on. It was just us and one other table so they Could’ve at least made it clear on how it worked there; At least when I asked her water she could’ve said oh it’s self service and handed me a cup or something. Food was ok but nothing to write home about.
This place use to be a favorite spot, the burrito I ordered was just below meh, the flavors just werent there and the beans and rice were just below average.not sure what happened here but this is definitely not a stop for me anymore,Id rather eat at del taco at least their tacos have flavor.
Very over rated. It seems that their fame got to their heads and they and started charging more money for a less amount of lower quality food. Lola is literally laughing at you to the bank. They charge an entire dollar for a cup to get water just to give you an idea of how cheap they are. They wont bother doing something halfway decent like buying smaller cups in bulk and charging a dime for them to cover costs, nope not Lola, she needs every one of your pennies. Its not the worst food in Barstow which is why it earned another star but definitely not the best. Over-hyped, overpriced and underwhelming. Skip over this one.
Im new to Barstow so I asked a local where the best place to eat was, they said lolas, so I went. I was surprised to see it was in a strip mall but was welcomed by a guy at the counter. I asked what the best thing was and he said green chili enchiladas so I had that. It was great because thats one of my favorite mexican dishes.Anyway, food was great, great service. Very friendly people. Authentic Mexican cuisine at a good price. Ill be a repeat customer for sure.
This was the first restaurant my family and I visited when we were out here in Barstow and we absolutely LOVED the food. The customer service was warm and inviting. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful and vibrant. Definitely a place to stop at when out Im Barstow.
I love it...! its pricey....but delicious...you must try the tacos Puerto Rican.....an older review says this is texmex....oh please ...I am Mexican. In fact I grew up in south Texas. Ive only been in Cali 4yrs. Lolas is the only Mexican food I will eat and pay for outside of my home cooked Mexican. Aqui..uno puede encuentrar comida authentica de Mexico. Las senoras y Alberto son muy lindos y attientes.
This gringa crossing the high desert from San Diego didnt need to know about Carne asada fries, but I am so glad that I do now. Its like a Mexican poutine! So much freaking flavor in this dish, and even better with about 1/4 cup of the enchilada sauce added. My friends has the beef enchiladas and said they were wonderful, moist and delicious. Its a busy place, friendly to the tourists (us) who came in and didnt know the drill (order at the register, get your beverage and sit down). Its a small, little place in a strip mall with fabulous food, do not be deceived by the exterior. Do not drive by.Any chance for a location in Detroit?
This was my GO TO spot back in the days... when I was doing work on the base, or on our way to Vegas or Laughlin. I visited yesterday and entree plates are $12 and up OVERPRICED and beans and rice are spread out so thinly, you take a spoonful and you immediately see the bare plate. We had chilaquiles and huevos rancheros taste is authentic. However, I will stick to burritos to go instead more bang for your buck. They serve chips if you eat in and literally 10-15 chips for 2 people, half empty chip bowl.
Barstow gem! Went based on online reviews. I had carne asada tostada. It was very tasty, fresh, and just the right portion size. Hubby had carnitas plate. Meat was slightly smokey, with crispy edges and he said it was some of the best carnitas hes had. Tasty chips and salsa too. Decor is creative and colorful and the staff friendly. We liked it so well we plan to try them for breakfast tomorrow!
Dont judge a book by its cover. Although you see literally nothing from the parking lot, inside you will find a lovely family-run small mexican restaurant. We had breakfast before hitting the road to kings canyon and it was delicious. They ran over to the supermarket the second they realized they had run out of milk to make sure we could enjoy our coffee the way we like it.
Lolas Kitchen has by far the best Mexican food I have ever had. I enjoyed it numerous times while living in the desert. Lola cooks herself and puts a lot of pride in her place. She is well established and has been around for a long time (my first visit was in 2001). Lola is one of the sweetest, nicest people you will ever meet in your life. Her Steak ala Mexicana is delicious. Just for that alone the drive to Barstow every once in a while is a must :)
Just came back from Germany to the States. I was excited to have some Mexican food. Went to Lolas after reading reviews and it was ok. I was looking for fireworks in my mouth, but Lolas didnt do that for me. First they ran out of chili rellenos, chicken enchiladas were bland, kitchen was loud couldnt have a conversation, but the salsa and chips was yummy. Husband and I wont be going back there again.
On our way back from the Grand Canyon on our way home to San Diego and found this place via Google from I40. Had the chile relleno - pretty good,or about as good as you will find for authentic Mexican. Someone else in our party had a carnita tostada. All was very good - the guacamole was the only thing that could have been better.
Sopes. Sopes. U eat sopes and live forever. Happily. Also sopes. Nothing else as good. They have a crumbly feta-looking cheese on them. Not enough. Give me two sopes, one of the chorizo/potato and one of the pure gold plain bean heavenly wonderment. Bith with extra cheese. Extra extra. Thats a very light lunch. Fastest item on menu cause all the work been done making that little soft toughish corn base thing.Could say two of each if want. Or two of the potsto-chorizo and one bean. Vegan get potato no chorizo not on menu, and bean. . Youre allowed to pick them up but grab a knife they wont give you one. Just for the first bite ir two then pick up to eat. Not crunchy but thick. Corn. Pour a little sauce on about half the bites you take. Scoop droppings back onto sope w fork. Tacos good. Im about to try an enchilada cause im jackass sometimes. It wont be as good. Its ok I ordered
This place is a must stop in traveling through barstow. We read about it on yelp and both my wife and I are mexican food fanatics. We have eaten all over southern California and this restaurant is at the top of the list. We had to wait on a table to open up, but it was well worth the wait! Magnifico!!!!
Growing up in Phoenix and Las Vegas, but living in Utah now, I crave real Mexican Food every time I come to SoCal. We werent sure where to stop, so decided to choose based on Google reviews. Lolas did not disappoint! It was a-maz-ing! I loved the Steak a la Mexicana. Spicy and oh, so delicious. When I let my husband try it, he exclaimed, Wow!. Though overwhelmed by the deliciousness of my meal, he thoroughly enjoyed his Carne Asada burrito. We cant wait to eat here when we come back through.

2022-07-05Lola’s was a very pleasant surprise!!!! We were immediately and warmly greeted. Inside is intimate, cute artwork and very clean. It was minutes after ordering that we got our food. Everything had really great flavor… I’m always comparing all Mexican food to my Mami’s and grandma’s cooking who are from Morelia Michoacán. My only constructive feedback would be to make the agua frescas from scratch. We will be back…

2022-04-05Loved the chorizo breakfast burrito. I love it because they dont put in any bean or rice filler. Just eggs, meat, potatoes and cheese. Delicious

2021-07-27Im looking for a genuine mexican food that serves a “great food” in the area and found this on google with a very good reviewed. Upon arrival, 4 stars for a pleasant, neat place. Servant was good but not so accomodating, maybe because we’re not mexican 🤔. The food… Well, It’s not as good as expected. The first thing we’ve tried was pork burritos but to our surprised its just come with a pork & beans… no veggies at all. 🤨. Nevertheless, their hard taco was pretty much good. I ordered Jose’s special for togo.. but we’ll see if it deserved to be the best meal that they had. For now its just a couple of stars for me. Not well recommended.

2022-07-16This place is buenísimo! The food is so good and the employees so attentive. I knew I was going to do a review before I left the restaurant but when I walked out all of the sudden the owner came running out and said you forgot your purse. I was very happy with my experience before this but after this I was even happier. I loved the food and thought how awesome that they were so honest. I highly recommend this place!

2022-05-11There was no line and the had us go around front and park to wait for our order. They never brought our order out and after about 20 minutes, i went inside and they didnt have our order ready. The girl that helped us offered me a cookie for my inconvenience. Nevermind the fact that we ordered cookies and they werent even in the bag. Spoke to the manager and requested a discount or some of my money back and she did do that, but all this made me and my grandson late for our movie, so i was not a happy grandma.
