It has a large parking space and employees are very friendly. I am not good at English so I worried to go. But there staffs explained to me slowly and kindly. There is also a swimming pool and sauna. Also I could take yoga class in here. And large fitness room make me feel fresh.
My wife went in recently to try it out and she felt very uncomfortable. She said the staff kept pushing her to get a membership, particularly from a guy named Jacob. Moreover, he even told her to call him directly as “this is how he makes his living”. I understand that you guys encourage people to get memberships, but he was already pushing from the moment she entered the door. Because of this she’s not sure if she’ll be returning. I personally wont come after hearing this. Its unfortunate as I heard the fitness instructor was really good.
So nice to have this gym open again. Although one of the older and in more in need of some upgrades, you still dont know what you got till its gone. Like most all the LA fitness they seem to keep everything clean and in order. Nice and friendly staff. Hopefully corporate will loosen some of the hours and stay open a little later.
DO NOT GO HERE. Club makes up their own rules and policies that contradict La fitness National policy. They are shady and say out of the box things. Be careful and guarded. I’m a previous member of 10+ years and have attended La fitness clubs nationwide. Be careful. EoS, crunch, and chuze offer better pricing and better staff. Give them a shot
The general manager at this gym is a complete fraud. The deal I got was nothing like I expected, and this is after I confirmed with him verbally in person many times. I specifically asked if my membership would allow me to go go to any LA Fitness including the signature gyms, he nodded hastily. Nope. I was lied to. I asked if there wasnt going to be an annual fee because my previous membership didnt have it. He confirmed that I was only going to pay a one time fee for initialization. Nope. Im being billed annually along with my monthly fees. This is such a shame and brings a lack of faith and commitment to this organization. This general manager pulled all the tricks in his bag like this deal was a one time offer and that its closing time so I had to hurry up and sign the contract. Please do not feel rushed when youre making this kind of commitment and please do read the tiny tiny fine print that these people WILL NOT point out!!
As soon as I walked in the health club I could tell the atmosphere changed when the general manager Greg Hatfield greeted me with a firm hand shake and smile then briefly walked me over to introduce me to the fellas at the Reign energy drink table and loaded my hands full of caffeine. WOW, what an amazing experience. I’m definitely ready for a good workout.
Overall would recommendPros : Staff are very friendly and accommodating, Rob helped me set-up a new member on my account, Melissa was kind of enough to help with the transfer of a membership from Georgia to California and I had a personal training session with Mike who was awesome and showed me a lot of great stuff. Also love Roy from the shake place!Cons: Unfortunately the gym is a little dated, there is carpet in the locker rooms which seems unsanitary. The pool has been closed since Ive been attending (3-4 months) and the sauna was falling apart up until recently, then it got a half remodel.Great people, Good value, would recommend
Worst experience I have had with the sales person. He was rude to me and my guest. I told the short man from FL, who is the LA Fineness salesman that I didnt have a CA. Drivers license since I just moved to CA and I have not updated my license due to covid, and he decides to tell me I can get arrested for not updating my license, as he continues to tell me his dad is a cop. Not sure why he had to say all that. I am a current member that placed my membership on hold and I was taking a guest in to play racquetball. Just starting to get back in to working out since everything is open now and I wanted dto introduce a friend to racquetball in LA Fitness. So embarrassing how this man talked to us. I will never recommend this place to anyone again.
I was visiting SD for a couple of days and wanted to workout, so I came here. When I arrived, they initially told me that they didn’t do day-passes, in accordance with COVID protocols, which is entirely understandable; however, I was able to speak to Greg and he hooked me up with a day-pass.Greg was very accommodative and kind, as well as Zach (or Zack, as I’m unsure), who helped me at the front desk. They had all of the facilities you could need and in sufficient quantities. I only once had to wait briefly to use one of the machines.Great service, great facilities, great time!
They were very pushy about signing me up for a personal trainer, at one point even telling me my “priorities weren’t right”. When gyms reopened briefly in June, they charged me for June, July, and the yearly fee, then closed again a few weeks later. They have now reopened, but I decided to end my membership, which they made impossible. Ended up calling my credit card and blocking their charges. The staff might be good, but at the end of the day they are a business trying to squeeze every last dime out of you.
Good gym. Very happy with the job they do overall. They dont over officiate and or over manage. The best thing that any gym owner or management can do is open the gym on time get the music on make sure theres hand soap and paper towels in the bathroom maintain your equipment and then leave the members alone. Unless, someone is going to hurt themselves with the way that theyre doing something. Other than that very happy with the gym and the quality of equipment and the professionalism of the staff.
Wouldn’t go anywhere else. The gym is always clean and if I notice things that are in need of maintenance usually when I go the next day it’s already fixed or being taken care of. Their staff is amazing point blank period. They treat you like family and always are down to help you out. The personal trainers walk around and give out pointers/advice to people or just talk and it creates a professional but relaxed environment to workout in. This gym is legit
LA Fitness at this location is Awesome. The Staff have excellent customer service and they make you feel appreciated. The environment is so professional that I feel like a millionaire every time I step through the door. They greet me with so much respect I started to think that I was President Obama. The women are gorgeous and the facility is a 10. I would recommend every one to come to this location if you want to get fit and even enjoy the pool and all of the exciting features that are offered. I am very critical when it comes to giving feed back because I am a Libra and if I cant feel positive energy at a location it turns me off instantly but I feel so happy when I see the building it makes me smile every time. Great Job guys to all of the staff. Salute!
Andrew was so friendly and helpful. Being from out of town (Australia), we were unsure of how LA Fitness works, however the staff were so helpful and talked us through the entire sign up process. Once inside, we came across the biggest amount of quality exercise equipment I’ve seen in a very long time. Can’t recommend this gym and especially Andrew, any more. Cancel your current membership and get here to LA Fitness - Shawline now!!!
This LA fitness venue has a good size workout room, great personal training center, basketball court, racquetball, swimming pool and exercise studios. Lots of classes. They have an interactive app for finding classes, checking the schedule and signing into the club. I’ve been a member since 2004. I attend the Aqua fit classes. I’d prefer something more advanced as the aqua teachers cater to seniors. Both aqua instructors follow a similar structure which NEVER CHANGES! Same routine day after day! Nothing advanced! That being said, the teachers are very nice and I go because I’ve had both knees replaced and arthritis. Spin classes are intense! Machines in workout room are well kept but some need revamping or replacing. GREAT STAFF!! I give this one 3 stars because the locker rooms are really in need of an upgrade and the place needs a facelift!!
Visited this LA fitness for the first time. Did not talk to employees, so no review or comment on them. However in regards to the equipment condition and facility, it definitely needs some remodeling. Lockers were dirty, dumbbell area has tons of dust and rust areas were you can see it has not been cleaned in a while, some equipment were a little banged up, however in working condition which is the only thing that matters and sauna also needs some cleaning and remodeling. Lockers are small can barely fit a regular gym bag, so if you bring some additional clothes have some fun time jamming it in the locker..
AlWAYS FRIENDLY WELCOMING GREETERS AT THE DOOR THAT DO CARE ABOUT OUR WELL_BEING..JENIFER IS PARTICULARY NOTEWORTHY IN HER OWN WAY..IN HER WUIET WAY SHE EXUDES CARE AND CONCERN ABOUT RESOLVING SMALL DETAILS..THEY ARE BIG TO HER AND WANTS TO GET THEM HANDLED QUICKLY..AND JOSE DOES A GREAT JOB IN THE 6 YEARS IVE KNOWN HIM AS THE PRIMARY 6AM-3PM DAY CLEANER..THANKLESS JOB..BUT I SAY THANK YOU JOSE..MUCHO GRACIASYOUR EFFORTS ARE..ARE..NOTICES AND APPRECIATED..GRACIAS...!!!!
I typically avoid rush hour at the gym so i cant really speak on how busy it gets. But my visit between 9 and noon was great! The staff were friendly, the mens locker room was clean and in good condition. The only downside was a few of the locker doors were broken, but there were plenty of available ones. As for the equipment, most seemed to be in good shape but there were a few that had missing rubber grips. There was ample room for the freeweights and they werent strewn all over. The other patrons were respectful and considerate of others as far as i saw. This LA fitness isnt quite as nice as some others as i have been to, but overall i had a good experience and would recomend it to any in the area.
They really need to upgrade. Im going to add more to my review from 3 years ago. Recently Ive unfortunately been very disappointed in LA fitness especially this location. Thank God to kenny who was a Godsend otherwise, things wouldve escalated to alot worse situations. Theyre all about sales and not abit about customer relations or service. They sell you a package and the next day they dont even say hi nor recognize you. Horrible services and their equipments are all super outdated 🤬😡
The building and equipment is a little dated but overall its a clean facility with friendly staff. Theres generally a good number of people at all times. Its never dead.Absolute favorite yoga instructor is Jorge!! The guy gives clear instructions, gives you some personal advice or checks on if youre having a hard time with a certain move and I love the mediation bit he does at the end. 💪💪
They just got new equipment a few months ago, and redid the pool, so its all pretty new. The staff is very friendly (and Ive even seen them when cancelling memberships- they were friendly and helpful there, too). The price is average. Ive been going to this LA Fitness for 2 years, and I really like it. Im not sure what the other reviewers were looking for in a gym, but LA Fitness has what I need, and I like it a lot.
Pros: Not overcrowded for am workouts, people are nice, basketball and racquetball courts and equipment is well maintained. Also, plenty of parking and near food venues and a wlamart.Cons: pool area and mens locker room need maintenance badlyThis is a tough one because I like the gym and most areas are maintained very well. However, the pool area and showers are plagued with issues from towel hooks coming off the wall to water damaged walls that no one seems to notice. If you do not use those facilities this place is easily a 4 star gym.The staff is a hit or miss. The employees will greet you at the entrance, but doesnt seem genuine. However, enter the employees cleaning the workout floor. These guys are extremely nice and acknowledge you with a smile or a how are you and actually wait long enough for you to respond.Really wanted to go up to at least 4 stars but those issues in the back could turn into real health issues.
Always very crowded and hot, but still an alright gym. After going to several other gyms, I have found that LA fitness is very.. eh. Ive been to a lot of LA fitnesses and I have found that the staff isnt very friendly, and the equipment is a bit dated at most of them. The classes displayed on the app arent always right either.
Overall this gym is relatively clean and organized. The equipment is new enough and functional. One concern for me is the massive amount of steroid users experiencing roid rage in the toilet stalls. Also last week, there was some concerning behavior going on in the sauna that I reported to staff. They rectified the problem promptly. What is most concerning was the switch to gender neutral restroms and locker rooms. It is very confusing and I am not sure I am ready to be gender neutral.
Anthony has been one of best personal training directors I’ve come across and I’ve been coming here for 7 years. He’s so helpful with following through his commitments towards costumer satisfaction. I’m giving 5 stars cause he’s really gone above and beyond compared to the previous personal training directors(mike alhambra).
Nice gym, nice people, terrible fitness sale manager - William Jay... He is highly unprofessional and rude. He lied to me about offer that I had on my hands and walked away in the middle of our conversation. He told me that offer was expired. I checked offer at home and it wasn’t expired. It could cost me extra 100$ to join the gym.
Club need an renovation for the price Im paying with the master training $300 per month not including the monthly membership. Let alone being treated like garbage by the new so-called general manager. Who gave me his fake name. I signed my coworker up for the 14 days guest pass with my VIP account but that was not honored and it was only for 5 days. Instead of coming up with a solution for me, the general manager threw his title at my face and talked down on me. I do not recommend going to this club and I will cancel my family membership from today.
I personally love this gym, mainly because its never too busy in comparison to other gyms Ive been to. As a woman, I sometimes feel uncomfortable getting on a bench, however, I do not feel like that here. Everyone is very nice and respectful. The decor of the gym is defiantly outdated but that doesnt bother me as much as others, I will say that they should get rid of the carpet in the locker room, its pretty gross. My only 2 grips are 1) The equipment is kind of all over the place (bosu balls, exercise & medicine balls, etc.), maybe have a workout room dedicated to circuit training so those items can live in one location. 2) I love kettle-bell workouts and its a little inconvenient to have to ask the workers or trainers to grab them vs just having them out, again, housing them in a circuit room or something similar.Lastly, the yoga class is great but the fluorescent light is a bit much for a yoga class.
😡 0 star. I became a member ( family plan) of this LA Fitness, paid $ 278.96. He was explained me that , this plan works in all states, in 2 days i turned out in Las Vegas, there is no such fitness in general not LA Fitness. (about 27 states there is only). Through den I called him and asked to be closed and the money returned. I was spent there for a long time, then He was told to come to any fitness department CA and close it and get money back , spent 7-8 hours, I did not receive anything exactly, (where I came different LA Fitness in CA, they ignored me, then they 2 Manager laughed) then I call him again, then He said that for 2 weeks you will receive money . For a month the money was never returned. Today called again said to come and get the money back to the card. They all have my account number all. What century are we living in? Sucks. I have enrolled in fitness 24. I hope LA Fitness not to deceive me. I definitely will not leave it. I lost my job, and 278.96 for me to much money . Sorry my English not well
Theres several bad reviews for this place but most are old. Ive been to most of the gyms located centrally in SD and for all club at $29.99 a month its a great place to work out. After agreeing to personal training I decided I didnt want it - I told them they could let me out of my contract and keep me as a member or send me to collections. Im still a member and paid for only one session. Its very busy during peek hours but not as bad as 24 in Hillcrest or 24 in general. I dont care if staff is friendly I swipe my phone on entry and dont really need niceties or any interaction. Plenty of parking, good AC, equipment is new and always in working order or fixed quickly. Take a free 3 day pass and try for yourself, make your own opinion.
Has all the weights. And fairly clean ( thats 4 stars on its own). But the obnoxious spin teacher ruins all of it. Not sure why the guy teaching spin thinks its his responsibility to blast the music and yell loud enough for the whole gym to hear. Im not taking the dam class and dont care to listen to a spin instructor that doesnt even ride the cycle for half the class
I fail to see the issues most people complain about this gym, or why theyre issues in the first place. the gym is huge (as most LA Fitness are) the equipment is newer, though godforbid you may wait during peak hours, and people actually re-rack their weights in the proper place here (for the most part).I didnt realize we were going to the gym to socialize with the employees, or that we were studying the architecture of the locker rooms. Im going to the gym to get swole, I couldnt care less about how well the receptionist greeted me.Either utilize the gym for what its meant to be used for, or move on and quit complaining. The gym is great (albeit not as nice as some of the other LA fitness) and serves its purpose.
Gym has plenty of equipment and a smoothly bar that can compare to nothing when it comes to price and quality! However, during the weekdaya during peak hours, it can be pretty hard to get a bench to start your workout, I do appreciate thw cuatomer service as it is fairly good compared to other LA fitnesses i have been to in San Diego
The workout area is great however everything is ruined when you walk into the locker! Majority of the lockers are broken meaning there arent any doors! How do you lock up your valuables? It seems they are trying to repair the doors but they put broken doors back on backwards, so the doors still dont lock! The showers were flooding. I will find another LA Fitness to go to, so should you.
I’ve been to few different locations at LA Fitness that are really nice and ones that suck. Mine... on shawline and Clairmont Mesa blvd ... its poop. Not one fan...Not! One! So hot all the time because the air on the a/c set to 80.. so it tends to be muggy and stale from all the sweaty people fumigating the air quality. They are always out of towels and hand sanitizer , so.. bring your own. the handsoap in the bathrooms are diluted with water, like it’s on food stamps or something. Benches are always moved around and never put back. It’s a workout before your workout. If you don’t mind a hot , stuffy, stinky, sweaty mess with limited ways to clean the equipment.. this is your place of heaven. Bring a portable fan.
Honestly there was a veteran there who was so kind and its only because of him that I even considered to come into work out there he was patient funny honest and a newer kid on the block so although I realize it was probably tough and he does need commissions his mannerisms were funny kind and respectful and I would definitely come back again I would love to see a sauna room with the steam room but that is my only gripe other than that its an excellent place to work out with lots of options and I do see myself there in the future
I cancelled 2 months ago and noticed that I was still being billed. I even have a confirmation showing I cancelled. Now they are claiming that they did not honor the cancellation because I have to go in person to cancel. They refuse to cancel my membership until I do so. When I stated that I have confirmation, he replied that at this time we do not take cancellation over the website, you must come in person.
This in regards to the 4S RANCH location in San Diego. They have recently lost a child in their daycare in 4S Ranch and the child was found across the busy street in a yard. They didnot notice he was gone for twenty minutes as well and told they family, its not their fault.Noone reracks weights. The equipment is outdated, broken or old. Only two squat racks that are so tight together with other equipment you cannot do deadlifts or other forms of workouts. You have to literally walk around the gym searching for the other barbells.
The operation manager was very rude, I was referred to talk to her to resolve my billing issue by the employee who registered me, in the first place ,in a wrong plan. She wasnt even paying attention to what I was saying when I was talking to her and all she kept saying is I cant help you.24/7 from now on ; dont waste your time money in this location.
Don’t be fooled They Forgot to return my ID so I spent a week without my liscence because some guy took it home with him, they do that to get you to come back, be careful there is some shady stuff going around here, price was also way to much for closing so early, 10$ a month gym will get me the same machines and better hours.
Its a nice place, but I was so disappointed that my 4:30 step class was removeI loved the class the teacher is great .My friends and I were so disappointed Its true that is not a big class but there is always 6 or 7 of us that always attend to class. This is just so sad all good teachers leave and now they cut down the good classes. Im so disappointed about that!
The good:3 squat racksLots of dumbbells and benches4 bench presses2 incline benches4 stair masters3 smith machines (if thats a plus for you?)Plenty of cardio equipment on the second floorThe bad:Flat sided plates instead of rounded platesBroken lockers in the locker roomDisgusting showersBroken shower heads in the showersOverall this is gym has not seen a facelift since the 90s.

2022-07-02My needs are few. I’m a senior, healthy, active and I love to walk so the treadmill, the pool and the spa are just about all I need or come here for. That said, the Kearny Mesa facility is just filthy, and I meanAll. The. Time. The showers are dark, and ***never*** clean. You literally have to spray it down and wash away the clumps of hair and debris the patrons leave behind. My biggest beef is the internet is beyond unreliable, slow, frustratingly ***slow*** to auto log on and it may take several lengthy attempts before the service works well enough for you to do anything more than check your emails and texts. The facility is just so uninviting. It’s dark, dirty. The lockers are ridiculously small. There are no dryers to dry your towels and swim suits after the pool and spa. The spa and pool area are just a depressing, uninspired mess. The staff, while they’re all easy on the eyes (and YOUNG, which must be a prerequisite), are all recent hires so don’t expect answers to even the most inconsequential seeming inquiry. There is no place to just sit afterwards to enjoy a juice bar or cold water and relax and peruse your mobile. Just come in, workout, leave. Still, for the price, it’s a value, imho, though it’s just a sad, old gym.I understand renovations may be on the horizon for this facility. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏾

2022-02-16Very good selection of equipment. About 3 squat racks. 2 flat benches, 2 incline, and about 5 adjustable benches. Plenty of accessory machines. Doesn’t feel cramped. I come in around 8 or 9 in the morning and it’s not too packed. Staff is excellent and nice; Greg, the manager, was super accommodating for me and my service dog. No complaints here, plus they accept ACTIVE and FIT!*edit for 5 stars*Came back with brand new staff. Just as nice and accommodating, but seeing trainer/staff getting up and helping with keeping the gym organized gets them 5 stars.

2022-05-07Wow. Just had a session with Marlon C. What a treat! The perfect balance of calm enthusiasm and genuine encouragement. Not too much hype. Not half asleep! He is clearly passionate about serving his people and actually c o n n e c t i n g at a personal level to understand my perspective & background. For me, trust is the foundation of feeling comfortable enough to work out and have an open, learning attitude, not to mention to push myself. Highly recommend!

2022-06-20Its a good workout experience and everything need is there, but all the equipment is old and rusty. I know the floors and equipment get cleaned but the showers need attention. Has enough equipment to cover your needs even on a busy day.

2022-04-27I stopped by the gym to check it out and open a membership. Benson was a great help. Showed me around the gym and hooked me up with a 3 day guest pass. Good and Friendly experience. Definitely worth signing up. Ask for Benson.

2022-04-11I’ve been lifting for ten years. This gym is great for those who woke up with a New Years goal. If you got a couple years under your belt and are serious about your mission. This gym is is not the place to achieve those goals. I’ve held a membership at almost every large commercial gym from here to Escondido. Only place for people like me are private gym’s.

2022-05-09Excellent customer service from every one of the six employees/trainers I’ve met. Not pushy, they really wanted the best for me. Thank you Roy and Marlon for going out of your way - you made my day!

2022-04-30The lack of care for the facility is evident. Equipment remains dirty constantly over long periods of time. The gym favors accessory machines over compound lifting. Be wary of the leg press. While you can load it over 500 I wouldnt because the stops/catches instill no confidence that they will hold the weight.

2020-01-03Definitely a must stop by for the fit crews from around. Our first stop in, everyone was very kind and helpful. The facilities were clean and the locals were very nice. I really loved the atmosphere, all the art, and music. Our sign up was smooth and courteous, we even felt like friends after just one meet and greet. Theres lots of equipment so I cant imagine that youd have to wait for anything and theres several studios. Thank you La Fitness for the warm welcome and yes I would highly recommend these good people.
