Ive been in Alameda for more than 20 years, and today was my first time in Julies coffee & tea. Avocado toast was fantastic. What a great, friendly place to meet with a friend and have a light lunch and some coffee. Theres indoor and outdoor dining. The indoor dining room can be a bit crowded, but the ambience is fantastic. Ill definitely be back here.
I stumbled on this undiscovered gem right in our neighboorhood. This was one of the best mouth-watering avocado toast Ive had grace my taste buds in a long time. The food, and ambiance of the garden took me to a state of Zen. Had coffee and a few types of tea. Everything I tried was great. They got a new customer for life!
Really love this place. Great tea selection and nice staff. The back garden is a great place to come and read a book and enjoy a pot of tea. Make sure to try that kombucha! Its strong and flavorful. Not like that store bought stuff. Also the cream that comes with the scone! Really tasty. Good selection of tea and coffee goods like kettles or steepers, and some good books on the topics as well.
I come here a lot! I love to get a chai in a pot with honey and cream. It’s perfect. I have had various salads, always fresh and tasty. I just recently had their grilled cheese sandwich. It’s all about the bread, thick! The cheese is NOT American which is perfect. The inside is welcoming and comfortable. The music played is often good. There is always interesting local art in the wall. The staff are friendly and competent. Their tea in bulk is really good. The coffee is always good. I like that it’s not just a bagel and smoothie centered place. The outdoor patio is nice even when cold. The light comes in perfectly.
A fixture of Park Street, Julies offers a lovely assortment of Teas, and coffees, as well as delicious baked-in-house treats such as cookies, pies, scones. They have a rotating menu of healthy and satisfying freshly made to order food items and you are sure to find something to delight your palate.Costs are reasonable.Julies has free wi-fi, outside tables on Park Street, as well as a charming and cozy outdoor patio in the back.Staff is friendly snd helpful. While inside seating is still not available as per Pandemic requirements, take out and delivery are both options in addition to the two outside seating options.Give this pace a try next time you are craving a nice beverage or snack, a place to relax while getting a nice meal.Their made to order Pies and other treats can be ordered for the Holidays or any time youde like an indulgence.Julies gets 4 out of 5 stars..my usual highest ranking.Give it a try. Youll be happy you did.
Love Julies and recommend to everyone for great tea selection, coffee and treats. My favorites: Cheddar & Chive Biscuits | the Sweet Potato Hummus is delicious with olive oil, pine nuts and spices | Quiche, which I usually order in its full size | Matcha Latte. Plus a great place to pick up some gifts for any occasion. And when outdoor eating is back in vogue, their backyard garden is a lovely place to meet up with a friend or get some work done.
Two years ago I gave it 5 stars. Today I still give it five stars. I first got their cauliflower sandwich (pleaseeee bring it back) two years ago with a friend and the serving size was generous. The iced teas are amazing and theres lots of varieties of teas. Today the sandwiches are still as great although the serving size feels a bit smaller. The soups are always amazing and the quich is also so so good. It can be a little pricey but I think its definitely worth it.
I love everything about this place. They have great collection of tea. Their backyard is amazing, it is nice place to seat and relax. They have free WiFi inside. People love to come to work there and have a cup of coffee or tea. They have some unique options. Also they offer Mexican hot chocolate. There are several dessert options including vegan or gluten free. I personally never tried food there but it looks tasty. Also you can buy loose tea or coffee grains there.
This place is fantastic! They have a blast tea selection, delicious coffee and a simple food menu with very tasty food. Im a fan of the baked eggs, the grilled cheese is to die for and yesterday I tried their porridge and it was absolutely perfect.I also love they are protecting the environment by offering spoons and you dont see them using any plastic. This really matters to me.The staff is very friendly! Highly recommended.
Fantastic brunch spot, and a great place to sit down and get some work done. The food is good and competitively priced, and the coffee is all pretty solid. Where this place shines though is its tea selection. The options are so varied and all have their purpose and flavor. Definitely not a high schooler spot, which is a big plus in Alameda! So glad Julies is here!
We love Julies for their lavender latte, the options of all kinds of milk (oat, almond, soy), avocado toast, scone with cream (the cream is the best part!), Large pots of brewed tea, and the ham and cheese sandwich. You have to try it all! We also love sitting in the back patio, which is super cute in a sunny day. A great place to work, read, or have quieter conversations with friends.
This place is so awesome!!! Theres a patio in the back with more tables and seating. I love their soups here. I usually dont like American soups but its so delicious here! Very flavorful! I also love the green tea matcha latte! Theres a great selection of non-dairy milk too!
Went here with a friend for the first time. The drink variety is so much that I was overwhelmed in the best way. No matter what kind or style of coffee/tea youre hankering for, you can get it there. They also do drinks with almond and oat milks for vegans like me. Speaking of that, their dessert selection is just as good. They had anything from a chocolate pudding to scones and nut bars...and a positively awesome almond bar...all vegan! (They also sell things that arent but their vegan selection is very impressive!) I know for sure I will be back
I have been coming JC&TG as a visitor to Alameda long before I lived here. I appreciate the great selection teas, coffees and espresso drinks, and a small selection beers and wines. If youre hungry there are freshly baked goods each morning along with a breakfast and lunch menu of entrées made from well prepared whole foods.Service is reserved but not indifferent and clearly into preparing a quality product whether from behind the bar or the kitchen. The table and seating area inside is intimate and hushed but if that is not quiet enough for you then there is always Julies Coffee and Teas crown jewel, the outdoor garden area, through the side door then you slink down the narrow passage to the back.
Excellent! Plenty of indoor seating for a tea shop. Patio is spacious and beautiful with lots of greenery. A bottomless pot of tea is about $6 (there is a whole menu of just tea) and most entrees (crusty sandwiches with melt-in-your-mouth cold slices of mozzarella & fresh tomato & pesto drizzled with a vinaigrette, soups, salads, etc.) are under $10. Their vegetable quiche is to die for! You can taste the exquisite fresh flavor of the veggies. Its my favorite spot. No really, this is not a paid endorsement :) Enjoy!
Good food and drinks, although rather expensive. Staff seems usually like deer in headlights. Our order was messed up, as were others. Guy who appeared to be a manager, or at least know what he was doing, was very nice and made it right. (Younger staff seemed defensive when people pointed out a mistake.)I will go back, the patio is lovely. Ill just pack patience.
What a cute spot to hang out and have some coffee/tea and some small bites. Love their garden patio; its super quiet though! I had the green tea refresher and it was delicious. The baked eggs take 15 minutes and are good as well; filled with two eggs, spinach, pesto, and topped with cheese. Everything is reasonably priced and I would definitely return.
This is our favorite cafe on the island. The teas and espresso drinks range from good to great (Im especially partial to the Orange Bliss tea and the Dirty Chai). The food here also doesnt disappoint. We often do a breakfast of cafe eggs with cheese and toast, and theyre changing selection of jams and jellies is often interesting. The breakfast specialty at Julies is the Baked Egg - an egg baked in a ramekin with cheese and seasonal veggies. Takes a little longer, but its like nothing else.
My favorite place to go to work or read. The tea selection is delicious and innovative (and often overwhelming but in a good way). The food is simple and fresh, great scones and eggs for breakfast as well as fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil with pitchers of tea for the evening. The patio in the back is lovely, but the main room is often dark.
Cute place with a variety of tea. I like the iced ginger brew and the rosemary mint green tea. The lattes are good but the hot chocolate is too light for my taste. Try a scone while youre there and if you go during social hour you can get a discount off drinks! They have an upstairs room and nice patio area available to rent for special events.
Its a nice hole in the wall where you can get exceptionally good coffee and tea. They brew the tea at precise temperatures for exacting amounts of time to extract the best flavor. There are also a small handful of pastries available. I believe they also sell alcohol, though Ive never tried it.On the side wall they sell looseleaf tea (again with good instructions on how to brew for best flavor), teapots, books, and local artwork.Note that the wifi is off on Saturday mornings.
I use to love love love this place, but the service is a hit or a miss and the scone options sometimes suck also. The flower power punch, the rosemary green tea, lavendar lemonade, and lemon ginger brew always are a good option. Skip the oat milk and mochas. All the other pastries are mediocre compared to their scone with Devonshire cream. Parking sucks. The garden area is nice if you can find a spot. The place is normally packed any day you go. Stick to the teas.
The food and beverage selections are great. The chai, matcha latte, and coffee are my top choices. The food is made with quality ingredients and tastes fresh. The menu always has interesting and appetizing dishes. The cafe is generous with the wifi as well and they allow you to sit here for hours. The garden patio out baxk is especially nice. The prices are a tad high.
Just had lunch here. The lavender lemonade is amazing, and the coffee is pretty good, too. We ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, and the grilled eggplant sandwich. Both were excellent. The eggplant sandwich is a good choice for someone who prefers light, delicate flavors. Grilled cheese if you prefer bold flavors.
Theres coffee and theres Julies Coffee. Who wouldve thought of all places Id discover the best coffee in Alameda?! One of my clients suggested I go there while waiting for her and oh my goodness the surprise I had when I took the first sip of my extra foamy almond milk latte. Im definitely not looking forward to finishing my project in Alameda because of Julies Coffee. Its godly!
I really want to like this place. Its local and if tea and baked goods were all that they offered I would give it 5 stars. But alas, the food is so-so and the service for food is worse. Note that Ive only been here in the weekends. It seems like many of the 5 start reviews mention laptops, so it might be better during the week.
Oh my gosh, this place is a jewel. I was looking for a unique and peaceful coffee shop and found better. Its so random and doesnt look like Id expect outside but when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised. Delish organic pastry options (yay!) and a great wall of teas;) and coffee. Will definitely tell my friends to visit!
The biggest draw of Julies Coffee and Tea Garden is that its a local, non-chain café. Its a comfortable, welcoming space with the requisite number of laptop-huggers during the workday. On the weekend theres a no Wi-Fi policy in effect. The brewed coffee is good, albeit pricey. The coffee beans on offer are just too dear for my wallet, what with so many coffee alternatives out there. The counter-staff dont have deep knowledge about single-source coffee beans, so trying to get details about particular varietals is an exercise in frustration.Their tea selection is excellent, but once again just a bit expensive. Theyve got lots of somewhat hard-to-find options, so its an option when buying tea as a gift. You dont need to go to San Franciscos Japantown or Chinatown (depending on what youre hunting).Alameda still needs its own Philz, or you can jump off the island and go to Red Bay Coffee, but if youre strolling along Park St then Julies would do the job.
I usually go for the Mexi-Mochas, but the selection of teas and tisanes is phenomenal. Try one of the ginger brews while you use the Free Wifi. One whole wall is covered in bulk teas; the others feature local artists. Outside is a lovely patio with both sunny and shady places to sit.As for food, its mostly light items, with baked goods, eggs, salads, etc., with lots of vegetarian options, even a few vegan, plus a few meaty things for those who like that. The staff are all quite friendly and helpful; they seem to be there because they like it. They also manage to quite tactfully enforce the strict no phone calls rule, which helps keep the place welcoming. Plus, they have great taste in music, which is played at a good volume to allow conversation and a relaxed atmosphere. Tuesday evenings theres even live music, and Thursdays are a communal craft day.
Alameda in general is a hip interesting place, not just where my grandparents lived. Found Julies Coffee when I was desperate for a caffeine fix and a bathroom. Julies makes a perfect caffeinated and decaffeinated cappuccino. Plus has excellent food and baked goods. Worth a visit.
I dont understand why anyone would go to a chain coffee shop when there are adorable gems like Julies. I love grabbing a cup of coffee with my girlfriends and hanging out on the sunny back patio. Great local mcdocal coffee shop that includes fun happenings like craft nights, live music and knitting groups.
Quite nice teas and a great sitting area. My friend said the coffee was also very good. They steep the tea for you, which is good and bad. The only issue was I got a puerh tea and they didnt save the leaves for subsequent steeps. This is shows a lack of knowledge on teas. Its just a shame to waste a good puerh.
My Twin sister Donna Mae that past 2010 loved there food at Julies thinking of her today wishing we were there having a coffee with tears from my eyes miss her when we both would visit Julies when I came to visit her Julies was her piece of Heaven she would say to me to relax and sip on teas and coffees how time passes so soon

2022-05-24What a great spot for breakfast and brunch. Its a very simple and charming place with a great atmosphere. Service is great from the order taker to the server. I got a Julies breakfast sandwich with orange juice and a medium latte. Everything was on point. Price is also fair. I highly recommend this place when you are in Alameda.

2021-10-02A delightful place to have a meal, snack or just tea/coffee. No interior seating at the moment, which is just fine as the garden area is by far the best spot. Menu is studded with wholesome items. There is always an excellent healthy alternative. The space is surprisingly quiet (just off Park Street) and conducive to hang out and relax.

2022-05-03Wonderful place to have excellent coffee. Lots of healthy choices and interesting tea options if thats your thing. Lovely garden in the back to sit at to read or connect with friends in. There are a lot of plants, which is nice, but may not be the friendliest environment for children.

2021-11-30I have been coming here for 5 years and I definitely will not be returning. Every time I come the slice of quiche keeps getting smaller to the point that it’s ridiculous. I have complained once because as a business owner myself I like to give a chance for the owner to fix it but nothing was done. I don’t mind paying top dollar for organic food if I actually got food in return. They lost a customer today and will not be returning.

2022-03-28They have the best little secret patio in the back. They make their own lavender syrup. I get a latte with lavender and almond milk and it is amazing. Lots of gluten-free options for food and my friend highly recommends their teas. I believe everything is organic.

2022-03-09Cute cafe with both parklet and garden seating. Great place to meet up with friends. You can also find nice teas and coffee for sale. Good selection of nicely packaged goodies for fits. No wifi on weekends though.

2021-05-29Coffee was good and the atmosphere was great on the back patio. I ordered food, expecting something delicious for breakfast. I dont know, this is a pretty sad sandwich for $9. Is it the standard now? I really wouldnt mind the price - if I actually got food for it. Instead I got a thin burned piece of bread, with a tiny bit of cream cheese and lax. Uninspiring and disappointing
