Java Man was MADE for writers like me. Its a cool and hip, but real java joint that always serves great coffee, tasty munchies and big smiles. This breakfast/lunch stop-over attracts all sorts of people which makes it a great space for people watching. Me? I enjoyed writing while living in Hermosa Beach. In fact, I started my latest novel #SeductionAtDaybreak while sipping their Columbian blend and eating their breakfast burrito (just remember to ask them to cut the microwave time in half; itll save the roof of your mouth ;-). I miss you guys. Cheers, JAVA MAN!
I stopped by to get an iced chai latte, but was intrigued by an iced peach tea. The tea was lovely and refreshing! I also ordered a banana chocolate chip coffee cake - very good and not too sweet/dense. I knew what I wanted to didn’t feel rushed but when the line gets long, they seem to rush you in a bit. I don’t mind it, but some may find it off putting, so if that’s the case, check the menu online in advance! (Which you probably already are if you’re reading this lol)Very pleasant atmosphere!! I was able to spend a good amount of time reading. Not quiet enough to have a virtual meeting, but you could get some work done here.
You know sometimes when the coffee is good, but the atmosphere just doesnt vibe? This is what this place felt like today. Definitely a very busy, popular coffee shop especially with the locals. Its a bit larger than most coffee shops I enjoy, and lacked that cozy/intimate vibe. If youre into the more open and busy environment while enjoying a cup of Joe, then you may truly enjoy it here. Different strokes for different folks. I felt very rushed during deciding which pastry and coffee to try, since my first time here and they have 3 chalkboard with menu items written very, very tiny. I decided on the chocolate raspberry latte with a coconut pastry. The coffee was actually very tasty, but I would opt for a different pasty. The pastry was overwhelmingly sweet and had a dense cake on the bottom. They really cater to the vegetarian/vegan community and have an assortment of friendly options for sandwiches and pastries. Good coffee, just the rushed environment and overly sweet pastry left a bad aftertaste.
Some super duper tasty coffee (and mocha!) with a good selection of pastries to choose from. Super friendly staff who make to order. Its a great place to meet up with others, with ample seating ranging from couches to bar stools. If youre looking for some sunshine, they also have an small outdoor space. Java Man is well liked and frequented by locals - with good reason!
My buddy said we were going for breakfast burritos and coffee and I was on board! Java Man is pretty tight spot and has a Locals Only feel to it but do not be intimidated! There is a grab and go feel but slow down and you can do it. My buddy had the chorizo burrito and I had the Turkey. He LOVES his as he goes semi-regularly and I Loved mine too, fantastic salsa. They are modest sized, but sometimes you dont need a huge breakfast and the price is spot on at under $5.Word to the wise, I was in need of a large iced coffee and was not made aware that large is really JUMBO, so look at the size chart before ordering. They have all the coffee fixing so no worries. Such a cool California shop!Great spot for a quick breakfast with an incredible value!!!
I give it 5 for the following: the coffee is awesome and they have a decent refill price. The place is laidback and its a great place for the laptop lifestyle for sure. The food is awesome, reasonably priced. Muffins especially. Great outdooe area if you can snag a place to sit. The two guys who run the show are cool.
Great little spot with a friendly staff and a great vibe. A variety of sweets and wide selection of caffeinated beverages means you can find that perfect sweet/savory pairing to start the day. Walking distance from Hermosa Beach also makes this cozy cafe the perfect place to grab something warm to enjoy during a stroll through the sand on a chilly morning.
Java Man is the best. Ive been patronizing Java Man since it opened way back in the 1980s. Every inside table has an electric outlet next to it, so you can plug in your laptop, e-pad, or phone if youve got work to do.They have a wide variety of hot and cold drinks to choose from and a wonderful selection of various types of food from the sugary morning treats to go with your coffee or tea, but they also have healthy victuals as well for more health-minded folks.I just wish they had an electric outlet outside so I could plug in my electric bicycle. It only costs about 8 cents an hour to charge. Id give them a dollar to charge my bike. Thatd more than cover the hour or two that Id be there.
I write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Java Man on our interview date. For those who love the sea but hate the overbearing crowds that Venice and Santa Monica draw, look no further than Hermosa Beach. Sure, you’ll find your trendy restaurants and boutique shops that tends to find a home in any beach city, but you will also stumble upon classic gems like that of Java Man Coffee House. The 1920’s bungalow style cafe automatically feels like home when you step in through the doors with vintage warm neutrals and pops of color, oldies dancing around your eardrums, fun coffee themed artwork and decor, and the friendliest and quickest staff that I’ve met in the South Bay area. With an extensive drink special and food menu as well as a variety of seating areas outside and inside, including an adorable nook area complete with comfy couches, the possibilities are endless for whatever type of experience you are looking for!
Its all I needed. To be able to sit down with a Tea (Darjeeling) Latte , a delicious browny , my laptop and some quiet. Its nice, you dont pay for the Hermosa location; you pay for a down to earth coffee shop with super friendly hosts , delicious drinks and outstanding home made baked goods. (And Its cozy and not full of yuppies.)
Consistently delicious. Hard working & smiling staff. All baked goods are fresh from Ocean Diner & soo yummy. Walnut Brown Sugar Coffee Cake, Cinnamon Sticky Bun, Mixed Berry Muffin, and if you get there early enough, grab a breakfast burrito and fresh squeezed OJ. I love their school lunches too. My personal fave is the fresh Tuna sandwich, served w/chips & an apple. Get in at 3pm & take advantage of their happy hour, buy 1 muffin/coffee cake, get one free. Oh and the Monkey Bar. Hmmmm, now that is heaven.Support local businesses. The coffee, teas & service at Java Man is 100 times better than the corporate chains down the street.
Basic coffee and drinks here. High point is the proximity to the beach but dont expect gourmet coffee that will knock your socks off. Think a local version of Starbucks but in a upper-class beaxh-side community. Wi-fi, indoor and outdoor seating, friendly service, but kinda pricey.
I have a company volleyball tournament on the beach bright and early this morning at 10 am. I havent been to Hermosa before, and was grousing I would have to give all my coffee money to Starbucks. My consternation grew with every mile closer to the beach. When the Uber took an unexpected turn, I noticed a cheerful coffeeshop that commensurated with my hopes of a half decent breakfast. I asked the driver to end the trip. And seethed as I got out and crossed the road.I hold alot of credulity in my fellow yelper recommendations and in my usual fashion, there was the impetuous desire to check the Yelp Highlightz. Breakfast Burrito...get it while supplies last wrote one comrade. The staffer informed me there was no paucity in the menu and so I opted for the burrito as opposed to the more salubrious items on display. The salsa is fresh and sublime.Java Man is a laudable spot in the South Bay. When in Hermosa, one must strut sagaciously. I goad you to try this place.
Located just short of the ocean in Hermosa Beach, Java Man is a great place to sit and relax, read a book, surf the web, hangout with a friend, or just enjoy one of the many coffees choices that they have. They also have a nice selection of pastries, food entries if your hungry. They always have art on the walls for you to enjoy while there. If you are in Hermosa Beach, I recommend to stop by and get a great cup of Joe!

2022-02-06Best place for coffee in HB and the food is quality also. Ive never gone wrong with a breakfast burrito and the pastry I had today was a Nutella turn over that was light and flaky.
