Were early risers, so when we leave our cabin near Toms Place and drive south on Hwy. 395 heading home we always stop at Jacks Restaurant in Bishop for breakfast. Friendly service, great food, and fun fish mountings and high mountain decorations everywhere on the walls to check out. And, its right on the highway....so easy.
Had a delicious breakfast here! Great service. The waitress lowered the blinds when the rising sun got a bit blinding. And my salt shaker cap fell off, dumping salt on my food. The staff was very kind and remade me food, and made sure the give me a working salt shaker. Appreciate how kind they were. The fresh squeezed orange juice is definitely worth getting! Love the warm nostalgic atmosphere. Would recommend and come back.
I didnt care for the food nor the floor. Granted the place was busy for a Sunday morning but the food was not to my liking. I never seen a gray colored looking chicken fried steak before and OMG what was with the floor on the way to the restroom, it was disgusting. So never going back!!!
This place was great with even better wait staff. We had breakfast here both days we where in Biship. Had the Chicken Fried Steak 1st day and Country Benedict 2nd day both were served hot and with a pleasant smile. Sierra made US feel like family. We will make this a morning tradition when were in Biship. Thank you to the local Couple for the sight seeing advice....
Early morning Crab Cakes Benedict ,perfectly cooked!Got the pleasure of seeing the Bishop Firefighters preparing to go back out to fight the good fight after reinforcements at Jack’S Diner, been there on the Main Street off Scenic 385 since 1942. On my way to Bodie to vote , Tuesday November 3 20/20.
I highly recommend the french toast breakfast.! Everybute was a delicious experience. It was sweet and moist. Perfect French toast.I do NOT recommend the eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was a thick goo that tasted like bitter butter. It looked great but the taste was awful.
Jacks is a great western-themed coffee shop in the heart of Bishop, California. Perfect stop for an early-morning or lunch visit on your commute up California through the Sierra Nevada mountains up through to Reno. The favorites had were the pecan waffles and eggs benedict with perfectly crisp, well done hash brown potatoes, adding their green signature bottled hot sauce is the best for the savory dishes--tangy with tomatillo and just enough spice.
Fast friendly service and great comfort foods. Has a back room you can reserve for larger groups up to about 20 to 25 people. Normally busy, but the wait when there is one, is worth it. Family and kid friendly. I have never had a bad meal here in my 40 plus years of going here.
I enjoyed the Denver Omelet with bacon added. Then requested the biscuit substitute over toast. The biscuit came with one of the best gravy recipes I have ever tasted. Our server was a pro with potential for stand up comedy hour! She was certain to put a smile on our groups faces. And she didnt miss a beat when it came to refilling our drinks before we could finish the cup. The price was incredibly reasonable. I forgot we were in California. Sorry for the jab California, I love the state but find it spendy compared to my home state of Nevada. So the serious bang for the buck came as a bit of a surprise. Everyone in our group left full and satisfied. Did I mention we were smiling 😉
Just enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at Jack’s Restaurant in Bishop, CA. Very clean little spot, decorated for the fishing crowd- cute!, and the staff was welcoming, helpful and efficient. But best is the breakfast... a nice selection and all home-cooked. The Corn beef hash is excellent- flavorful and lean; I skipped the hash browns for sliced tomatoes but they looked good on someone else’s plate. The omelette selection is varied and was a ‘5’ as well. My husband ordered a fruit side in lieu of potatoes and it did not disappoint- fresh, varied, and a nice selection. I will definitely go again when traveling through or to Bishop, CA. Try it, you’ll like it 😋
Holy heck this place is so good! Absolute best waffles on the planet. I make some pretty good homemade buttermilk waffles at home and my husband was quick to point out that these were way better. Corn beef hash was the best I have ever had...more meat than potato and perfectly crisp. Bacon was thick and had the most delightful smoky flavor. Staff was awesome! Super friendly and fun. Karen took great care of us. Absolute must stop when driving through town!
Everything about this place was amazing. This is the place you think of when you come to a country diner! Amazing service with a smile and charm, massive portions, great prices and to top it all off great interior decorations. I cannot see how anyone would not love this place. There is no wonder why it has lasted for as long as it has!!
This restaurant was DELICIOUS, and service was amazing. The best part was it didnt give anyone stomach problems! Usually, after a good hearty breakfast from places similar to this, youre running to the bathroom. Not at this place! I had the corned beef hash, my husband had the chicken fried steak, my 2 girls had a burger (cant recall which one) but all of our serving sizes were huge! My daughters said they had the best french fries theyve ever tasted second to in-n-out, of course. But definitely recommend. They have a classic vintage feel that I absolutely love also!
Havent been to Jacks in a few years. It is NOT the same. We went there for breakfast and it was horrible. We never received some breakfast items like toast, syrup, or water we asked for. The Belgium waffles were not the same from what I remembered. They looked and tasted like waffles you would get from a free breakfast at a two star hotel. My wife ordered the eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce had white streaks in it. Turns out it was mayonnaise. We suspect that they were running low on hollandaise sauce and tried to stretch out what they had instead of making more. Absolutely terrible.
Went into Jacks to have breakfast and was seated fairly quickly. Was offered coffee and was passed by several times by the waitress Karen, as she took orders from others who were seated after us. She asked others for coffee refills but not us!!she passed us a few more times, never acknowledged us so we left!!! Not a very friendly place. I never ever leave reviews!!!!
Upon arriving no one was at the front to greet us, so we walked towards the back to find one of the workers speaking to a women sitting down that seemed like she worked there. She then asked us to go back to the front to order, in a ill manner. We order our food with a Hispanic man that actually took the time to take our order and give us better customer service. Our food didnt take long and we tipped the man $5.00 for getting our Togo order ready. Food was pretty good and Hot. I do recommend the FOOD here.
The restaurant was very busy , but we were sat pretty quick considering the line. I ordered ham and eggs scrambled. I forgot to ask for real eggs they used liquid eggs so was a bit of a let down. If a menu does not state our omelettes are made with fresh eggs , you know your getting liquid eggs. Over all it was a good place to eat the hashbrowns were great and the coffee. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I will visit again , when in Bishop. Only this time Ill ask for real scrambled eggs 🤣
I was just there with a friend and I didnt even get asked how did I want my meat cooked and I got it medium rare with I hate and the hashbrowns were to mushy they must of not payed down the water on the potatoes and the family next to us there kid was hella loud wrost experience wont ever be back here
Visiting Bishop,California close by at the EastSide Bivy. Great restaurants with good expected restaurant style food. I had the BLT w/fries, decent taste that can be repeated on another visit. Love the olskool waitress gals that know how to serve and treat you with customer service (thnx Karen!). Definitely a place for family! Love the hours 7a-2p. Fast service.
Great family restaurant. The food was ok however my kids loved it. My husband and I had the Chicken Fried Steak. The meat was gritting, tough, and a little on the greasy side. The side dishes were good. Our server was very nice but slow. She didnt read clues well that we needed our check or needed refills. But overall will go back.
Breakfast was excellent and the service was top notch, despite it being very busy. Eggs over-easy were perfectly cooked, which lately seemed to be an extremely rare feat. Sausage patties and hash browns were very good. Their wheat bread, made in-house, was delicious. Glad we stopped at Jacks on the way home.
Very good omelette, hash browns werent greasy, satisfying portions, good prices & very good service. Theres a smaller portion menu too. Didnt see a kids menu. No gluten-free options, not much for vegans or vegetarians. The pies looked good from a distance. The decaf coffee isnt very good at all. Otherwise a very good traditional breakfast place. (I didnt use the restroom so no opinion on that.)
Great food, great prices, and the food comes out incredibly fast, youll be surprised. No complaints as far as the waiters/waitresses go. My only promblem with this place is the signs on the walls. I wouldnt suggest bringing your kids, and some of them are downright offensive. But, thats not too big of a problem, just dont look at the signs and eat! Good place.
Very nice family type dinner, with some amazing decor including a wagon wheel chandelier and a bunch of different trophy fish from various places.I had the special, ground steak with a pile of fresh asparagus and a salad. Everything was just right, and they have great ranch dressing. Definitely a good value, and will definitely eat here again.
Food is great at Jacks Restaurant in Bishop. We usually gauge it driving-wise, so were near here at breakfast time. They nail the omelettes & hash browns here, as well as pretty much everything on the entire menu. Their ranch salad dressing is so good, I could probably drink it straight. The Chicken fried steak is the bomb, too! Tastes like country cookin with large portions. They make some of the best biscuits and gravy Ive ever had. I also never miss a chance to look longingly at all the trophy trout on the walls inside. Only wish Id have caught em all. What a never-ending BS Session thatd be. Left me out there w/ nothing but a paddle! etc...to infinity.
Usually love this place. Not so much today :( there is one waitress thats always rude, but tonight the food was not so good. Our waitress was super nice about it though and even though I told her we would still pay for the meal that my husband could not eat, she removed it from our bill.
We stopped by on our way to Vegas, had no idea what this restaurant was like but we were really desperate for a decent breakfast. So glad we pulled over because eating there gave me the best American breakfast experience. Food was so fulfilling and satisfied my cravings. We ordered several types of omelettes and pancakes and I can easily say that all of them were great!
Place is very nice food is good hospitality is good as well to bad we couldnt eat inside hope this covid stuff will be done soon because it would of been a very nice place to eat inside. Plus theres a sporting good right next to it which made the morning very easy to start to go fishing.
Shatts Bakkery was going to be a 30 minute wait. The Texas barbecue place across the street starts at $17 for a sandwich! So, I rolled down to Jacks. No wait, delicious sammich, Turkey and bacon, coleslaw done in less than 5 minutes to go. Under $9. I got roast beef and turkey for a dollar more the next day. Prompt and friendly, excellent food and price.
Homestyle cooking, great taste and portions. They have a smaller appetite section of the menu too with smaller versions of your favourite entrees. We had a meatloaf open sandwich with mash and gravy on the side, and a main entree with salad and a beautiful hot and fresh, baked on-site dinner roll. All tasted amazing
Classic diner in Bishop. A great place to grab food on your way to or from visiting the outdoor attractions in the area. Many funny signs inside, mostly focused on fishing jokes. The food is good and the service is decent. This place can get pretty busy during the high tourist season.
Tryed this place a few years back it was great big portions decent prices. Now its just a tourist trap. Small portions poor quality and high prices. At least the waitress was rude. Didnt get our drink order right and didnt give refills till we flagged her down TWICE. Eggs were over cooked on outside runny inside. Hash browns were burned Never brought the muffin I ordered during meal ended up taking it to go when called them out about it....No brainer that I will never go back.
Use to be the most stop place for breakfast. But not anymore. They use to have deep fried scones that were light and sorry with a slight crisp on the outside. The best things ever! Now its an over cooked greasy tasteless thing, not even edible really. I grew up eating at the original, back in the late 70s/early 80s. Huge plates of the fresh bacon, home fries and country gravy. I dont think the new owners even know what fresh is, let alone how to prepare good food.
Did not love.Ordered the open face chili burger. Patty was burnt crunchy and was covered in the most bland chili Ive ever had. It might have been ok if it was tasty or warm, but it was neither. My wife begrudgingly gives an A for their pancake, and the service was enthusiastic so they get 3 stars instead of 2.
Good breakfast, great service, incredible bread!!! Their 7-grain toast was maybe the best toast Ive ever had. The blueberry muffin was incredible. And we grabbed a loaf of jalepeno-cheese bread on the way out. The service was impeccable. Super fast and very friendly. Will definitely be stopping here again.
Perhaps we caught it on a bad day but our experience, specifically the food ordered, was really disappointing. We arrived around 8pm and were seated quickly by a friendly waitress. We ordered our food - clam chowder, grilled salmon and a bacon cheeseburger. The clam chowder was edible but unmemorable. That was as good as it got. The salmon was very, very dry and seemingly cooked (and possibly recooked?) from frozen. The burger had a really odd mushy consistency and the bacon was tasteless and like cardboard. Again Id guess both were either cooked from frozen and/or reheated from earlier We left half of each meal. We commented on our meal to the waitress and were given a 10% discount. In summary, the staff were friendly but the food left a heck of a lot to be desired..
Local favorite for breakfast lunch and dinner. Did you know they have free beer tomorrow? This diner has been serving Bishop since the dark ages. They have the most delicious bacon. Its my favorite breakfast place in town. This is also a great spot for lunch or dinner. They even have a bakery with delicious pies. Two parking lots makes parking a breeze. Need that special souvenir to take with you? They have shirts and oversized coffee mugs.
We have eaten breakfast there for many years but this time we ate dinner. Maybe our choices were not the best because the chicken fried steak was so tough my husband could not chew it. My chicken breast was so dry I left most of it. The wait staff was adequate but not the service we had come to expect.
After a poor experience at Dennys. Ive came to Jacks restaurant, after a few minutes of searching, I was served immediately given coffee and water asked how I was doing and everything was prompt efficient and good. Actor just a few minutes as server came back cuz I look like I was ready to order. After ordering just a few minutes later I had the first portion of my food. Few minutes after that she brought me the rest of the food in order everything hot and ready and quite delicious. Portions were good the food was hot so far so good everything satisfactory. Price is reasonable. Happy with my experience.
This was our first time having a meal at this place and it was amazing, very friendly staff, food was brought out in a timely manner and it was DELICIOUS! I had the country fried steak with biscuits and gravy....so good. Will definitely be coming back everytime I pass through! Thank you!
Ive been coming here on our trips to the Sierra for 20 years. My family first stopped here in the 60s on their first trip into the Sierra. Not a single one of us has had anything but a great meal. Its your typical American diner fare, just executed to perfection and served in a kitschy atmosphere that throws you back to the old days of the outdoorsman.I highly suggest the waffles, biscuits and gravy, and especially the hash browns. The hash browns are that perfect combination of a decadent, crispy outer layer with the perfectly cooked, warm center. Every single time.Definitely schedule a stop here if youre going through Bishop for any reason. Its well worth it.
Even though they open at 6:30 am had breakfast at 8:30, everything was cold. Gravy, hash browns, bacon cold and greasy, eggs were runny and under cooked. Even though the waitress asked everyone around me never got that second refill of cold coffee. Don’t recommend. This is touted as being a restaurant where the locals eat. Should be the best in town.Terry from Tyler
I didnt hate the place but I didnt enjoy my meal. I ordered scrambled easy and got em dry. I sent back the first dish, the second was ok, but what i really wanted. I think they know the out of towners & dont care if they come back. The service was slow as well. Our waitress was very pleasant though.
Excellent, prompt and courteous service. All pastry made on premisis, is very fresh and tasty. Entrees are plentiful, well prepared and flavorful. Would recommend this establishment anytime especially for anyone who enjoys good country style cooking with generous portion. $
My wife and I were glad to stop here for breakfast. Service was fast and courteous. My wife had huevos rancheros and I had the country Benedict (biscuit, sausage, eggs and gravy. The country Benedict was great, a large portion. The hash browns were as good as I have had anywhere. This was a perfect spot to stop, come hungry.
While I may not be into their breakfast, I certainly enjoy their lunch and dinner selections. They make their own bread and it shows, since its always fresh. My father and I have been regulars for the turkey Thursday meals, especially the hot turkey sandwich lunch special. On Thursdays, Jacks bakes their own turkeys fresh for the lunch and dinner specials. Its heavenly! If you are fortunate enough to have Patricia as your server, youll be in good hands. Shes attentive and dedicated to her craft, and always congenial. Also, the new addition in Angel as the host/cashier is helpful with his convivial, gregarious nature.
This was our fourth visit to Jacks. Sunday morning, we had quite a wait... but as always, it was worth our time. The portions were hot, gigantic, and delectable! Opt for a muffin rather than toast. They have so much fruit in them that it is hard to believe they will even stick together!
Jacks Restuarant was a true find. It is down home cooking, service was welcoming and prompt. The prices are competitive but affordable wish they were part of AARPS list. As elderly on fixed incomes need all the help they can get. My husband and I had one of the best pieces of apple pie we have eaten in years. Fresh baked daily bought one to take to my 94 year old father. Brought back memories of my mothers tart apples not over cooked and a light flaky crust. Mmmmm good. Would recommend and will go back. We normally stopped at Dennys on our way through Bishop very glad we tried Jacks.
Wonderful Mom&Pop breakfast shop with the best hash browns ever! Everything is homemade including the toast, seasoning salt, and hot sauce. I love the corned beef hash and eggs benedict as well as the sarcastic signs decorating the walls. I stop at this oasis every time I pass through the desert.
Came here for dinner tonight and it was just ok. I think this place seems to have a better breakfast than dinner. We had the meatloaf with mashed potatos, asparagus, beef and barely soup. The dinner also came with a homemade roll. The soup was good but not amazing. The meatloaf was 3 big slices but cut very thin with a brown gravy on top. The meatloaf was ok, moist, could of used more seasoning. The mashed potatoes were also just ok nothing special. Overall the meal was not bad and it fed 2 people. The big problem was that there were a ton of flies inside and every table was complaining about them. Someone needed to get some fly swatters out. We almost left it was so bad.The staff was friendly enough but no one was doing anything about the flies.
Food was good, but not amazing, we ordered take out and had to correct several issues from when it was placed over the phone, and one more that was correct on the ticket but incorrectly served. Large portions, nice homey atmosphere and quiet at 7 on a Saturday morning.
Good service, ordered a spaghetti with meatballs and a speciality sandwich with chili cheese fries, food was ok, asked the server what was Jacks known for, which could of been answered any number of ways, told me idk. Its worth a try, highlight was the prompt service and friendly server.
The food and the service just werent worth the stop during our road trip. Or server had trouble answering questions about menu items, or order took a very long time to show up, I ended up being the only one who liked his food. Indeed, my step-son only ate half his meal, and hes never picky.
I give a one-star as it’s the lowest I could offer. Went in and ordered two pieces of pie ala mode. The pie wasn’t homemade but it tasted okay. When I got the check, I was appalled to learn the total was close to $25. I questioned the total at the register and the owner couldn’t care less. This was more than likely due to me from being out of town. He refused to lower the bill. Beware of this place.
Breakfast is decent enough, Its actualy prety good ..BUT That place has got the worst dinners I have eaten ,,or tried to eat , I have encounterd in a long time ..Surprised Dennys hasnt put it out of busness . My Wife had two of the worst Pork Chops I have ever seen , Lookd like they were run over by something before frying ..I tried to eat what they call Meat Loaf..and it was disgusting for lack of a better word..It will be awhile before im Back in there for there Dinner minue..It is sadley obvious there Cook (could certainly not be a Chef) Has no Pride what so ever what he does in there ..And I do Live here in Bishop..Apears Dennys willbe getting my busness as there Is certainly a lacking of Eating establishments in Bishop these daysAs for the ones think Jacks is so Good ..Well I can only hope there taste is ...whatever it is ...I could easily give then a 2- on the scale of 10..Breakfast saved them frome a (1)
Excellent service, efficient and friendly. Had the Country Benedict--split biscuit topped with 2 sausage patties, smothered in country gravy and topped with two poached eggs. The two of us should have split an order there was soo much food. Very tasty. The hash browns that came with were perfectly crisp on the outside and perfectly done in the middle with more than a hint of buttery goodness. The only miniscule minus imo was a tad too much thyme in the sausage.Well be back next time were on the road through Bishop.Bathroom was very clean. Plenty of parking.
We got dinner here, maybe that was the problem. But everything was just really bland. Prices were reasonable, but spaghetti i had was average. Mashed potatoes my mom got were very bland, and fried steak my sister got was not very good either. Maybe their breakfast and lunch are better, but I wouldnt recommend Jacks for dinner. They just need to spice things up a little
Old school breakfast place on Hwy 395. Hot coffee, good food, great prices. Servers are excellent. If youre camping, fishing, hiking or just driving thru, stop and have a great breakfast with none of the non GMO or vegan overpriced foods on the menu. Bitchen fishing mounts on the wall and all the locals eat here. Yum, ready to go back.
Well my family ordered chicken fried leather, no that is not a typo. It was supposed to be chicken fried steak with country gravy. If you like your country gravy to taste like milk and flour with some ground pepper flakes, knock yourself out. Staff is friendly which is why I gave them 2 stars.
My friends and I stopped there for breakfast and it was just horrible. The service was not good and the food was worst. We ordered two eggs benedict and a chili cheeseburger. First, the server got the burger order wrong and brought a cheeseburger so we had some chili added to the burger which was a mistake. The server brought the eggs benedict and one of those dishes was submerged in a so much gravy that it spilled over my eggs benedict, which also had way too much gravy. The sausage and muffin in the eggs benedict were bad. We could not finish the food and all our stomachs were a upset afterwards.
Quite bad service. Food is also not great, however eatable or at least whatever I ordered was bad and dumped wit a really bad sauce that I had to remove from my sandwich before eating. Was waiting for a coffee like 10 minutes and had to ask 2 waiters. Do not recommend.

2022-06-09Located on Main Street in the middle of Bishop. The service was FANTASTIC from our arrival to departure. Server and staff ensured we had our drinks refilled often and our food came out quickly. The food taste was average for a diner and the portion sizes were good. Favorites at our table included the chicken strips, french fries, and french toast.

2021-09-14Fun restaurant in the middle of the main strip in Bishop. Parking lot adjacent. No outside dining. Restaurant if quite large, clean, and whimsically decorated. Staff is efficient and pleasant. Meals are basic and fairly priced. This restaurant is an institution for many. Only open from 7 AM to 2 PM.

2021-08-17The absolute BEST cup of coffee....EVER!! We stopped in for a late breakfast. I chose Karens favorite...Pecan waffle. She even heated the syrup up for the perfect taste. Thanks Karen, you rock! Fast, friendly, and delicious! We will meet again my pecan love!

2022-05-09Lunch was on a Sunday at 1:00 pm. After reading so many positive reviews, Jacks Restaurant did not let us down. The employees, led by the Manager were hard workers, yet quite attentive to the customers. No one stood around talking, even the manager was sweeping the carpet while running register. The lunch was hot and tasty, likewise the dessert. The restrooms were clean. It can be indeed be appreciated that they had a busy Sunday and wanted to get out of there, as closing time was at 2:00 pm. One employee was overheard making a derogatory comment about a customer who she deemed to be too slow...NOT good! That was the only objectionable issue encountered.

2022-02-14One of the best omelettes I’ve ever had at a restaurant. And the gravy for the biscuit was definitely a standout, had everything proper gravy needs but with a touch of onion

2022-05-13Food is not been that good last couple times I went . Prices have greatly increased over inflation. The Indian Casino has better prices and a lot better taste in food North on 395 . The owner closes the parking lot and the afternoon after the store closed so no one can park. How does this help Community involvement?

2022-03-21Great breakfast. The small portion of french toast with crispy bacon was the perfect size. The maple syrup was served warm! Coffee was hot and not bitter. Breakfast choices are almost overwhelming. Israel G was a great server, very attentive.
