I have visited this area several times, first time but not the last I will stay at the Inn at 2nd and C. What a charming, quirky, well- maintained part of the past! Antique, super comfy beds, attentive hosts, sense if mystery and positive presence all over this 135-year old, 4-story building with its winding stairs, ballroom, snug shared spaces. It is a balance of keeping a sense of history with modern amenities - Wifi needs upgrade, but works. Morning coffee, post pandemic plans to resume breakfast. Hats off to this Inn for providing such a memorable stay. Highly recommended.
This hotel is pretty rad. My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights in room 40 which had a spectacular view of the marina. Everyone at the hotel was super nice, always greeting us with genuine excitement and enthusiasm, we really felt welcome, which is great for a couple of queers who never know if we are going to be safe or discriminated against in new places we have never been. This hotel really is magnificent, the dining area/ballroom has stained glass ceilings, there are cute little landings/sitting areas at each of the 4 floors, there are all kinds of hidden nooks and crannies to explore, and you might even find a ghost or two! I loved this hotel! Also the restaurant was way better than we expected, the best food we had in town!We truly felt like we were whisked back in time to a long forgotten era, and took a vacation in a time machine. It was a magical experience and we are so glad we decided (on a whim) to stay here.
Cozy, authentic and inviting! This place has special touches that elevate it to five stars—the character of the building, the plants in the lobby that are cared for and maintained, and, of course, I was able to spend a little time petting the bell desk’s sweet doggy, Max! As a dog mom missing her baby on this trip, it made my day :) Everyone was so genuine. The lobby and downstairs area were perfect to spend downtime in the evening. My mom, MIL and I lost track of time while we were hanging there! Thinking of staying here? Do it!!!!
I recently stayed for a week at the Inn at 2nd & C for a work trip and had a wonderful time. The people are really what makes this hotel. Everyone was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. If youre looking for something a bit eclectic and with a personality, this is your spot. Perfectly located in the heart of Old Town Eureka, youll be able to walk to your meals, entertainment, and the waterfront. Such a great gem!
Excellent boutique hotel with a wide variety of rooms ranging from opulent corner suites adorned in antique furniture, to clever inside rooms with porches overlooking the grand interior of the historic Eagle House. Dog friendly. The resident pupper is a friendly old lab. Front desk was friendly and accomodating. Excellent location near the shops and restaurants of the Eureka Waterfront.
The Inn itself is beautiful and has old charm. But we had a terrible experience with the location. At night we had the loud music from the bar cross the street. Also loud and noisy voices from people talking soooo loud at the corner of street till way past midnight and again early in the morning, prevented us from getting good night sleep. Won’t recommend it if you looking for a peaceful and calm stay.
We have stayed multiple times at the Inn for a staycation, a chance to get away but not having to drive a distance. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The location in Old Town is walkable to many good restaurants, bars and shops.Phatsy Klines is a comfortable place to have a drink and the staff there are great as are everyone at the hotel. We highly recommend the hotel.
Late review... our dinner (back in March for a large Chamber event) at Phatsy Klines was amazing! Several of us got the macadamia-crusted halibut and it was literally the best fish dish we’d ever had – yummy! Also, our server (Ben, I think) was amazing. When two of us turned away dessert because we’re gluten intolerant, he offered to see what he could come up with. He returned to our table within a few minutes with gf pancakes, whipped cream and a blackberry topping. It was also really, really good and I was so thankful that he took the time to accommodate our dietary needs during such a busy event.
A truly lovely, somewhat ( in a great way) funky, delightful inn!Envision walking into your great grandmother’s Victorian parlor 150 years ago.The staff is attentive. The rooms clean, the beds wonderfully comfortable. The adjacent restaurant is simple superb. The decor, the candles, the waitstaff’s turn-of-century outfits ( think 1905)— so fun! And the food…Start with cocktails. Delicious—Authentic hand made creations that make you feel as if you’ve spun back in time to Paris in the Belle Epoch.Trust your server to recommend the perfect appetizer to go with your cocktail.Dietary restriction? No problem. They’ve got it covered. Our choice of entree? The duck confit. Every bit as delicious as one we had in a Michelin star restaurant in Manhattan. For dessert—the test. Crème Brûlée. Seriously? Seriously. Most any chef can whip up a decent Brûlée. This one knocked my socks off.It took three spoonfuls to figure out that subtle superb flavor. Citrus. But not quite…Citrus can curdle custards. And zest can be bitter. Stymied, the chef solved the mystery. Kumquat zest. Simply wow.A lovely aperitif, and off to the quiet comfort of our room.Sometimes the hotel offers live music and dancing. But tonight it was quiet. We slept the sleep of the dead.If you are looking for a fun place that is most definitely not a run-of-the-mill highway motel, this is it.Yes, it is old. Very. There is no central heating or air. But each room has a very modern quiet space heater ( worked like a charm on this 42F night), or fans for the summer. And it’s right by the homeless shelter. Our car was full of expensive camping gear, Thule box and cases of wine. We needn’t have worried. The staff has security covered, too.If you want a cookie-cutter motel off the interstate, this place is not for you.If you want something fun, funky, and delightfully different—this is it.The only nearby ( sort of) place I like better is the Benbow Inn. Now there is perfection! But this inn is right up there in ‘delightful’.Bon appetite, and bon nuit!
If you are in the area for non-work purposes, probably a decent spot to stay. If you are here for work....I would look around.Pros: very pleasant people at the front desk, woman-owned business, FANTASTIC restaurant connected to it (but beware it is only open certain nights!), very clean rooms, white noise machines provided, and new towels and sheets.Cons: Pictures on the site are not updated and/or not a true depiction of what it looks like in person. No A/C in the rooms, small dusty fans provided, no gym, sketchy area, super-sinky mattresses, and no blinds or dark curtains (my room #30 had only light blue sheer curtains). Had to sleep with both windows open and still so hot and muggy in the room bc I had to keep the curtains closed because there was a building right across the street from me. Large mirror in the shower was a little puzzling, hoping it was just to make the bathroom seem bigger.
Very rude reception staff (young woman at noon yesterday) who would not let me enter the (locked)building/lobby and called me a liar when I was attempting to give guest information in order to visit my grandmother who was staying at the building and expecting me to visit. This made my grandmother come down from her 3rd floor room to the street outside to see me after she had to leave a phone call we had been on prior due to the rude and physical interruption of the staff member to me. The staff member (without saying a thing) literally grabbed the door away from me and closed it and then stood in front of me to block the doorway right when I attempted to enter the lobby and then politely stated I was here to visit my grandma who was a guest after that staff member had gone out the locked front lobby door. After the staff member repeadtly denied my attempts to give my grandmothers room information I walked away and then waited on the street outside for my grandma after having having to call her back and inform her I was not going to be let in by the staff member who just went back inside the lobby as I called from the street. I dont know too many hotels that would lock the lobby at noon and then physically scare away local (Eureka) visitors that attempt to give guest information and visit.Local homeless population crowds around the hotel all day and makes a lot of loud activity on the nearby streets which could explain the extra security and hostile front staff. Also as a person of color (the very rude staff was Caucasian) I feel the rudeness and hostility I was unpromptly and immediately treated with could possibly have been racially motivated, or not. If racism was not involved it is still sad that this brief experience with this business left me uncomfortable and feeling perseucuted for attempting to kindly visit my own grandmother who was made to go out of her way to see me by the unprofessional actions of the staff. I have never felt so offended or have been treated so rudely (not even let in the front door and then turned away) by a place of business before this one.
Absolutely love this hotel. Spacious and homey rooms, very large lobby and play stage to sit and eat. Try taking the stairs is like navigating a labyrinth which is interesting design. The Bar/restaruant is great and friendly. Hotel staff is amazing, once i accidently scheduled at eureka inn and when getting to 2nd& c, eagle staff helped me figure where that hotel is at (wont do that again). Location is great, across street from harbor/Bay and cement trail, lots of shops nearby and carson mansion short walk. Each room has a name with skeleton key and heater. Did I mention staff is very friendly?
Having stayed at The Inn at Second & C numerous times we can recommend a visit to the Historic Eagle House. From the comfortable rooms (room 40 our favorite) to the management and staff, totally accommodating and pleasant, who treat us like family, dining on the creative food choices or specialty drinks at Phatsys Parlor Lounge everything was excellent. Certainly the ‘go to’ place to stay in Northern Humboldt.
This was our third stay at the Inn and was as enjoyable as our two previous visits. Our cozy room overlooked the bay. We felt spoiled by the fireplace and really comfortable bed but most of all the amazing staff who were so polite and friendly. We feasted on two delicious dinners at Phatsys lounge and loved the atmosphere! Much looking forward to our next stay.
The customer service here was unbeatable. Everybody was so nice! The food was incredible and the live music was really nice. i loved the building’s interior— so beautiful. The only negatives:- it’s really loud outside at night and it’s in a sketchy area. BUT they have a security guard and camera for this reason.- the elevator seemed like it could stop working at any moment- the interior is pretty confusing. It was hard to find our room (or our way back to the lobby)
My spouse and I had a wonderful time here. We had not visited Eureka before, despite living only a few hours south in Sonoma County. The hotel is a site to see itself, with beautiful grandiose woodwork throughout. It is located extremely close to the water and most of downtown, and we were able to walk almost everywhere. It felt almost like a European city, in that there were wide and clean walkways along the beach, to the local museums, Churches and to the many delicious and historic restaurants. The large blue peace flag on the top tower of the hotel made it easy to locate where we were at any given time while we wandered downtown, and the view from our room was amazing. The hotel restaurant was good and had a variety of complex and interesting dishes, with delightful cocktails also.We fell in love with Eureka this trip, and would be happy to return to this hotel and reccomend all our family and friends to visit as well!
This charming historic hotel is one of my favorites places in Humboldt county. The rooms are detailed, clean and beautiful and the event space is breathtaking. I looove the restaurant downstairs for their fun craft cocktails and delicious food. Looking forward to the next trip!
Goodness what a romantic and beautiful hotel! It is literally draped in special touches and thoughtful, quality decor from top to bottom. The rooms are unique and comfortable and feel luxuriously historic without the out-dated feeling. I really enjoy the atmosphere of the ballroom, and LOVE the drinks and food at Phatsy Klines. The location is perfect for exploring old town Eureka as well. Staying here is really an experience of its own.
What a delightful discovery! In a world of cookie cutter, run of the mil, establishments, the inn at 2nd and C is a unique find.Every room is different and every room I’ve stayed in offers thoughtful extras, that make you feel special.Staff is helpful and friendly, rooms are clean, comfortable and lovely. Plus the bar down stairs, Phatsy’s, has food and makes a damn good cocktail!
I’ve stayed at the Inn at 2nd & C twice now. Both times were fantastic. The rooms were very cozy and clean and had lots of character. Being a local, it was lovely to walk the hallways and just feel the many years of history surrounding me. They both were beautiful rooms and the staff was more than accommodating. They allow pets in some of the rooms which made it a possibility for us to have a staycation!Phatsy’s restaurant and bar downstairs is a wonderful little spot you won’t want to miss….oh and there’s an Irish bar/restaurant in the same building! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan on going back again very soon!
Beautiful Victorian hotel! It appeals to me also, as a women led business and is managed very well, especially during the pandemic. The rooms are very clean, with luxurious beds and nice details. My daughter and I ordered food to take back to her room. We had fantastic salads and heavenly garlic knot rolls! Dont skip dessert! We loved the apple pastry with ice cream!
The Inn is a charming place with antiques that lend to the original time period in which it was built. The bed was comfy. We did have an issue with noise from the bar downstairs. The owner called me and actually listened to my complaint. There was an extenuating circumstance and so I can sort of overlook it. Just ask that you dont stay in room 26.Its a woman owned small business, which I love
Wonderfully decorated rooms. Very beautiful settings. Friendly staff. An awesome place to spend few days in Eureka. The place is old, very old - but it is charming, very charming. The bed is super comfy. The bathroom - not so much - wish it was a bit more spacious. We visited during COVID 19 - the staff and everyone around were wearing mask and the have been cleaning everything regularly - although dont expect your rooms to be cleaned for your stay.
What a gem! A romantic getaway under the belt with the help of this lovely historic delight. It is close to so much goodness and the building alone is worth the stay. Bed was very comfy and everything was VERY clean. I stayed in room 33 and it had a great skyline view. Ill be back! It was covid respectful too, I felt safe.
Enjoyed our stay in this renovated and updated Victorian hotel in the old downtown very close to Humboldt bay. Our room was on the 4th floor with a view of the Bay and sunset. Apparently every room is different- ours had a lovely sitting area and our bed was up 2 steps. Very cozy snd comfortable bed. Furnished in antique style. Updated and lovely en suite bathroom. Hotel is a block from the bay and on the edge of ok’d downtown with restaurants nearby that serve outdoors including a great breakfast restaurant.
The Inn at 2nd and C is a Beautiful hotel with a ton of ambiance and Very nice staff. If you prioritize modern extras, this place is not for you. This place is for people who are looking to unwind and relax. Many options exist for activities around the Hotel, but the Hotel itself is ornate and made to declutter your mind. The staff is available for emergencies, but staff have to be called in after 9 pm until the next morning. But as long as it is to deal with an real issue, you wont get any trouble. They have decent internet, but if you are there to work, you might be there for the wrong reason. They are looking to expand their in-house services, but that might not be available for a little while. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Upon our arrival at the Inn we encountered numerous homeless people in the neighborhood and several on the sidewalk outside the entrance to the hotel. My wife refused to get out of our car for fear of safety. Calls, texts and email requests to speak to the inns owner have been rebuffed. We found better and safe mr appearing accommodations in south Eureka.
The whole property drips with the personality of Humboldt and history. Simply stepping in the doors feels nostalgic but staying here and you are whisked away on a true getaway! The service is second to none and does everything to keep your time away perfectly preserved.
You know the walls are thin when they have ear plugs on the night stand. It was a Sunday night, not very busy in the bar but we werent allowed to sit in a booth that was emptying out, needed reservations. They sat us in the dinning room where it was cold and drafty, nice ceiling though.
Stopped for a night - different from the run of the mill - impressive interior decos, expansive room with a comfortable bed. Right in the heart of downtown, at the beachfront. The night we stayed was a bit noisy (from the streets) till 1 am - not sure if it’s a regular occurrence. Recommended!
We loved the atmosphere and the art they had displayed in the ball room. my favorite room was the check in lobby! our room seemed a bit small but the bed was super comfy! the bathroom had a lot of body mirrors which was a major plus! overall the room was clean however the area just seemed a bit sketchy.
Welcome to the Hotel California! Not only is it “such a lovely place” but it’s cool, quirky, and oozes with history. Stay here if you want an unforgettable experience and not just another boring hotel stay. Super friendly staff, really comfortable bed, and great restaurant called Phatsy Kline’s right downstairs. LOVED THIS PLACE!!!
We were gifted the romance package at this hotel. We were incredibly impressed. First, the rooms are exquisite. All of it; decor, comfort, ambiance. The bedding is super comfortable, huge bath tub. The breakfasts were amazing. Freshly made mini scones, freshly made bread with all the bread like accoutrements, eggs, fruit, yogurt, freshly made granola, etc. The room came with its own French press, coffee and high end tea. The romance package included an in-room couples massage, horse drawn carriage ride around downtown, and when you arrive into the room a bottle of wine, chocolate, a candle and massage oil. Attention to detail at this hotel is amazing. Totally worth every penny, in fact, the cost of this hotel is extremely reasonable especially compared to other places offering similar things. Lastly, the hotel itself has a yoga room and a schwanky chic bar called Phatsy Kline’s Parlor and Lounge that serves delectable appetizers and craft cocktails and often has live music playing. Amazing place for a date night.
My wife and I were on our way back to the Central Coast from Oregon and were able to get a last minute reservation at the hotel. (No thanks to lousy cell service). Rebecca (owner) was very accomodating and helpful. Upon our arrival we made dinner reservations (being a former Alaskan, the Salmon, Copper River Red, was amazing! Almost made me homesick. As to the hotel itself, it was built in 1888 and is an amazing structure. The room was good, water pressure was excellent and plenty of hot water. There was a wedding which was being held there so the hotel was full. You can hear people in the hall walking but no more so than most modern hotels. The staff were fantastic! cheerfull and helpful. We heartily recommend this hotel and restaurant. Rebecca was so very gracious and informative. We plan on staying there again in Sept on our way up to Bend.
This place is amazing! The history provided was just phenomenal. The rooms, were clean and decorated beautifully. We had a few rooms for our familytrip. Our children also had a wonderful time. The Inn is just a walk awayfrom the ocean and a great ferry ride. The food was also outstanding.Customer service was top notch, from the front desk to the house keeping. There was never a need! Coffee, if you are a coffee lover (like me!!) Youwill NOT get enough. It was provided all day with fresh pots! The staff atthe Eagle House goes out of their way to help people. They were evenwelcoming to our children (ages 6-12), the greeted them and encouraged thekids to play and have fun in the ballroom as well as go explore aroundthe hotel. My son LOVES history, one of the ladies at the front desk(Alexandria) took him around and showed him some of the historic furnitureas well as explained the history of the hotel. They are top notch! Ihighly recommend persons of all ages to stay here!
We’ll probably stay elsewhere next North Coast visit. Dog friendly room carpet a bit stained and tattered but other rooms we saw were much nicer. Nightly sounds from Gallagher’s Irish Pub easily heard from room until a little after 9pm. After that the creaking floors and thin walls made additional unwanted sounds. Ear plugs (!) provided in room if needed. Electric space heaters provided enough warmth against the November chill - good that we prefer a cool room for sleeping. Organic homemade breakfast items very tasty but coffee weak. Efficient, helpful and friendly staff. Good location walking distance to old town Eureka and waterfront with convenient off street parking adjacent to lobby entrance.
Want to make lasting memories with your family or friends? Stay here! This restored, family-run historic inn is the kind of gem you’ll be recommending and reminiscing about for years. For the same price or better as those boring corporate chain hotels, you can instead get an unforgettable experience. The antiques... the one-of-kind bedrooms....that jaw-dropping gallery ballroom...the warm, caring staff...the swanky adjoining bar with its luscious cocktails...the delicious free breakfast....yum, yum, yum!If you’re lucky enough to time your visit with one of their fun events—open mics, trivia nights, lively local music— you’re in for an extra treat. Bonus points that the Inn obviously supports good causes, apparent from from their many organic/sustainable items and calendar full of benefit events.Lovely location right on the Bay w/quick jaunt to beaches and redwoods, too! Can’t wait to go back.............
My husband and I were just strolling around eureka when we happened upon the eagle house. We peeked inside just for fun and were blown away at its beauty. We had no intentions of staying in eureka that night, but we decided we NEEDED to stay in this hotel. So we got a room and its one of our fondest memories now. We also stay have been several more times for romantic get aways and we plan on having a wedding renewal vow in their gorgeous ballroom. I absolutely love the historic eagle house
The Eagle House is a lovely historic Inn. We enjoyed our stay in a second story room facing 2nd Street. We also had a bay window sitting room. It was very clean but did find a recent place in which the floor, just before going into the bathroom, at broken through under the carpet. We reported it and have every expectation that it has already been repaired. The only thing that kept us from giving our stay 5 stars is in our particular room the mattress was obviously old and very lumpy. Antiques were abundant and wonderful to enjoy but not when it comes to trying to get a nights rest on a old mattress ☺️!
Historical hotel beyond expectations! Every little detail! It might as well be a museum, as is. The architecture, the decor, the furniture... wow! Courtyard has a two level high ceiling. Stage downstairs, hardwood floor. Must be a great venue for events.Clean and spacious rooms. Friendly staff. Wonderful breakfast too. There is a cute eatery and a bar in the building. We haven’t tried it. Location is right in the tourist district.
Jimmy was so helpful!! And really worked to make sure you are comfortable with your stay/room choice! The lounge downstairs was perfect for a glass of wine and a book. They had so many different events scheduled at the inn as well! The room I stayed in was really clean and the bed was comfy.
What a wonderful place to stay ! We spent the weekend and everything made it seem like home. From the MOST comfortable bed and pillows to the front desk ladies. When I needed an extra luggage rack it arrived in the room immediately. The breakfast parlor is set overlooking the Bay and the coffee and food are organic ,local and delicious. Treat yourself to this lovely place .
What a beautiful and historic inn! Our room was beautifully decorated and the bed was amazingly comfortable. I just loved wandering the halls and looking at everything. So different! The ceiling in the theater room is amazing! Staff was attentive and welcoming. The area around the Inn has tons of great shops and restaurants. Really wish we had more time to spend there!
This hotel is amazingly charming. Every room is unique and the hotel almost feels like a labyrinth, but that only adds to its charm. There are beautiful sitting rooms on every floor, nice views of the city and water, and free internet. The hotels restaurant and bar are also both really nice looking with good food and drinks. The staff are polite and helpful. I kind of want to move in and Ill definitely be back.
Funky old hotel half closed down due to Covid. A lot of possibility but with most of the lights out at night, no attendant after 8, and only a few other people there it felt like a haunted house. The bed was quite comfortable. The Gillians???Bar had excellent food and nice beer/wine list. Skip Phatsy Klines unless your taste runs to the extreme experience. We couldnt find a thing to eat.
This place is amazing. We spent hours exploring the building, and our room was awesome. I know old buildings arent for everyone, but if you want to experience what a fine hotel felt like in days gone by then you need to check this out. There is an old ball room with a stage, and an old bar right in the building. All of the furniture is antique and very nice. The building is old, but they have done a great job of making sure everything works like new. We loved it!
Gracious staff and historically accurate surroundings. Each room is unique and is built to capture the 19th and early 20th century ideas of homey comfort and beauty in a hotel before widespread commercial capitalism. This isnt an air conditioned nightmare, its a touch of class. Pet friendly! Visit Phatsy Clines cozy parlor for drinks and nibbles while youre there. In a good spot to see the sea, pick up items at the co-op, and have lunch or dinner at a local restaurant after shopping or visiting museums.
Staff was very friendly at check-in. They walked me to my room. The place has an old smell to it, which didnt bother me. My room did not have a window to view outside, but there were skylights in the room and bathroom. The room was properly stocked and well kept and the furnishing was tasteful. There were various common areas where guests could hang out such as the lobby or the upstairs room with a view of the bay. Breakfast was the standard affair with bagels, toast, yogurt, fruits, coffee, juice, etc.
Old, quaint hotel. If you like history, this is a good place to stay. It does lack some modern amenities, but does have wifi and remodeled bathrooms. Some second floor rooms overlook the ballroom, so be aware of that if there is an event happening when you stay. An Irish pub that serves food, and a lounge bar that often features live music, share the building. So you can easily have a few drinks and enjoy some entertainment without having to leave the block.
If you want to experience how old rooms felt like, then this is the place! Everything from the dresser to nightstand to fireplace seems like a trip to the past. Squeaky floors everywhere. The service was excellent. Front desk always helpful.Bedding was nice and clean. Towels were nice and white. No stains that I saw.The shower pressure was not constant and fluctuates while showering. Sometimes youd get a burst of cold water even though its set to warm.Very minimal outlets available. Think I only had one outlet and one surge protector available.Thought the earplugs next to the night stand was a nice touch UNTIL I heard the dripping sound from outside. Seems to be from the AC. So the earplugs werent optional.. they were functional.
I’ve always loved anything old, vintage and antique! So many stories can be told but also when a place is loved and cared for it has a chance to tell new stories! The family that took over this property have done a fantastic job and care so much about their guests experiences, You can tell they have put their hearts and souls into it. Which is no small feat. Sometimes you feel like you’ve step back in time and others that you’ve just stubbles upon a present day gem!Highlights are:🛌 cozy new beds and bedding!Exquisite antiques ⚱️thoroughly 🛎 attentive staffDelicious spreads of delights ☕️🥟Location is in walking 🚶🏻♀️ distance to the bay ⚓️ to shops and restaurants!
Fabulous job by the new owners in maintaining the historic charm while anticipating all the modern travelers needs. Beautiful building, great service, lovely breakfast. We enjoyed dancing on our own in the grand ballroom to the romantic tunes from the adjacent lounge. Will definitely return.
This hotel is amazing! The furniture and lighting are from a different time, but the amenities are quite modern. When they say there will be breakfast, theyre not kidding. The staff was really helpful and friendly, there are loads of places to relax and eat, and the rooms are unbelievably comfortable. I didnt want to leave!
Went to Eureka for a spontaneous weekend getaway and discovered this place (it did not show up on my google map when I searched for hotels). So glad we found it! What a charming and cool gem! All of the other downtown hotels seemed totally trashy in comparison. Staying here really made our trip even more memorable! Every room here is different and furnished with cool antique furniture from France. Ask to see the available rooms before choosing one. The tour itself is part of the experience! The staff were competent, professional, friendly, and fun! (thank you Nick and Coco!) Not all rooms have tvs so if thats important to you, keep that in mind when you check in. The wi-fi was perfect. Stay here now!
Beautiful building, and friendly staff. We loved the Inn. Its ornate and gorgeous woodwork throughout makes a lovely and slightly haunting setting, which was exactly what Id hoped for. Its been updated in the right places (modern bathrooms and wifi) but e anticipated every need, from the small things like complementary earplugs to organizing daily tea time and social hour with free wine or beer tokens.
What a delightful find! My husband and I stayed here for a well deserved get away. The rooms are amazing! The beds, linens, pillows and bath products are amazing. This was the best nights sleep Ive had away from home in ages. Such a fun hotel to explore. Phatsy Clines (the attached bar) is such a fun place. And our meal at Gallaghers (the attached Irish Pub) was great.
The hotel is a really interesting place - typical I suppose of older destination type hotels, thoughtfully decorated and with impressive amenities, a ballroom, banquet areas and rooms with little verandas overlooking the dance floor. Its got a nice old-timey feel, and the people running the place were pleasant, helpful and friendly. Our room was clean and the bed was passable, but nothing that Id want to sleep for more than a few nights on.The area is in walking distance to most of the interesting attractions, restaurants, stores, and sights, and the vibe is typical Eureka with the overlay of the working waterfront. Which is to say, its shady, but the local transients were self sufficient and had their own unobtrusive agendas and I never felt unsafe, although I definitely wouldnt leave valuables in my car.If I ever had to stay in Eureka city proper again, Id definitely chose Inn at 2nd & C.
Loved the ambiance. Everything down to the sheets and towels were plush and fancy. The king bed was super comfy - even sleeping 3. For all you trouples out there. This inn definitely should have a 5star rating. The owners have a caring down to earth vibe and are people I will definitely continue to support. Great for travelers that are just passing through - as the building has a lot of history and is located old town (the best part of Eureka), so you are walking distance from a lot of locally owned restaurants and shops .
Unfortunately, this hotel is gross over representing the quality of their accommodations. Look for a B&B with Select Registry qualifications like Carter House Inn down the street.I had a reservation for one of their most popular rooms for 6 nights while visiting my parents who lived in the region. The condition of the room and the hotel was absolutely appalling. The room had no heat (in fact, all of the rooms had no heat), the windows didnt fully close, and the room/hotel was very pungent (the rugs and carpets were very dated). I woke to a 50 degree room in the morning after a restless night due to hearing every noise in the street including the morning banter from the kitchen staff enjoying a smoke. Im guessing that the owners are well aware of the noise issue since ear plugs were provided at the side of the bed. From the state of the radiators, there is no way heat flowed from them since the Reagan administration....which is probably the last time the rugs and carpets were cleaned. In the end, the hotel was clearly not as advertised and I could not ask my family to stay is these conditions. Fortunately, I was traveling in advance of my wife and son who were arriving 2 days later. I suffered through 2 nights at the Inn to try and soften the blow of an early check-out. However, the hotel held rigidly to its cancellation so I ended up paying for all 6 night (nearly $1,200) even though I only stayed for 2 nights. The owners were not willing to budge. If you are looking for an affordable room, there are a ton of high quality chain hotels in Eureka. If you want the B&B experience, stay at the Carter House Inn (which is where we ended up and was fantastic). It has all the antiques and ambiance minus the cold, noise and stink. I can see any reason to choose the Inn at 2nd and C which was expensive and low quality.
This place was the absolute CUTEST! If you are planning a trip to Eureka or just driving down the coast like me, its definitely worth stopping in and staying at this adorable little Inn for a night or a week! I could spend all day exploring this place. The interior and exterior is classic Victorian style with amazing rooms that are all different but equally charming. The breakfast provided was delicious and served with mismatched place settings in a beautiful room in the lobby. You can eat or hang out in the ballroom or grab a bite at the Irish restaurant that is connected with the Inn (food/service was superb). All around GREAT experience!
As an employee of the Inn at 2nd and C I would like to leave a review for this great hotel! Although the hotel was originally built in 1886 it has been renovated recently and has been reopened under new ownership. Each room at the hotel is different and has its own unique Victorian style. A nights stay includes a continental breakfast from 7-10am with local bagels and baked goods for Los Bagels, tea time at 4pm and wine hour at 5pm which offers a glass of local wine. The rooms are clean and the staff;) are amazing! So come and stay at our lovely hotel and have a great time in Humboldt county!
I came here for a Pride event, so I only saw the first floor. There was a nice area for coats and umbrellas when you walk in, and a dance floor in the middle. To the left is the bar area with lots of room to socialize and a few tables. The bar is nice and long. The waitress came and checked up on us write often so our drinks were always full and the table always clean.
The inside of this building has always been beautiful. Stained glass in the ceiling, stunning craftsmanship and great attention to detail. The new owners have done a fabulous job decorating and opening up new spaces such the bar in the back. Ive never seen any of the rooms. This building has been called the Eagle House all my life. Its hard to get used it being called something else after 50+ years.I didnt see any information sheets or posters about the history of the building.
A wonderfully magnificent victorian inn, completely refurbished with true to period interior and furniture just a block from the bayside boardwalk in old town Eureka. With a ballroom reminiscent of the House of Blues in Hollywood, fit for national acts of live music and theatre stage performances, this gem in the heart of Eureka stands out as a testament to what an invested community can accomplish for the posterity of tourism and local inhabitants alike. When I arrived to tour the facilities, I was met by Jenny, the owner, who explained that all the cleanup in the great ballroom was the post wrap of a production for an upcoming Jason Segal film.Truly a must see and stay over for a night or two of exploring the riches of historic downtown Eureka.tallship awards this venue...⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵Five well deserved sailboats!.
Got a groupon for this place in March (stayed one night). Its location in town is a bit incongruous with the ornate Victorian decor, but it was a fun, unique place to stay. Great amenities - fancy lotion/soap in room, terrific breakfast. You can tell that the owners put a lot of care into this place.
I am a HUGE fan of the Inn at 2nd & C in the historic Eagle House building! This building is an amazing, historic site that the current owners have done a tremendous job of renovating. It has an upscale, classy and elegant ambiance, blended with a comfortable warmth and familiarity. There are a wide variety of standard rooms and gorgeous suites on the various floors to choose from. They often also host upscale and extremely lively and fun entertainment events there. If you are fortunate enough to be in a position to attend one, and you enjoy top quality lighting, decor and music, then you absolutely must check it out! During many of their events, they also offer special VIP packages that include a suite, tickets to the show, and a VIP arrangements of flowers, some champagne or wine, and maybe chocolate or other goodies, rose petals etc in the room, depending on the event! I have done their VIP package a couple of times (NYE and Valentines), and my wife and I have been blown away!! We felt like royalty! The staff is extremely friendly and offer fabulous hospitality in general, there is a great pub and restaurant attached to it, and the owners are wonderful people who put great care into their building and enjoy throwing fun events. I HIGHLY recommend you check it out for yourself!!KUDOS to you, Inn at 2nd & C!!
If youre looking for a place for you and your bridal party to get ready before your big day, you might seriously want to consider this venue. The rooms are lovely, and staff is very friendly. If youre looking for an indoor venue in Old Town Eureka for your wedding its also great for that! We love our winter weddings weve photographed here at the Inn at 2nd and C!
This is the most gorgeous unique historical hotel and venue !!! The building alone will have you captivated. The history, the elegant ballroom, (with a stained glass ceiling !)and Phatsy Klines Parlor were some of my favorite attributes of the Inn @ 2nd & C !!! The friendly staff will make sure to accommodate you in the best, most luxurious way possible. The hotels new owners were so generous to offer their gorgeous ballroom for a fund raiser for Puerto Rico, and their hurricane victims. For any special event, big or small, I highly recommend the Inn @ 2nd & C ! Last but not least, lets not forget about the gorgeous view of the bay !Always with gratitude, thank you to the owners, staff, hotel, and venue !!!
My girlfriend had a room booked back in October in anticipation for their New Years party. They have decided to call us to weeks before New Years and tell us there is an error in the system so we do not have a room. The Managers refused to get in the phone with us, we were told “the do not like to deal with situations like this”. We were then offered to be put on the lottery list for a room. When they called today and offered us a room, it was three times the original amount. The eagle house has awful management and I feel bad for the people that work there. Do not give these scam artists your money, not worth it.
The hotel had recently changed ownership. Did some remodeling and added a connection to Phatsy s Bar (also Gallagher s but they usually dont plan much together event wise). Its not really very special and still feels outdated. Not much is offered. It would have been nice if they offered room service, but Gallagher s is under different ownership (again, not much cooperation). Also, the rooms are overpriced for the lack of services. I suppose if you like the Victorian themed style, it might be interesting. However, lack of services and organization create a hindrance.
Entering the Inn was like stepping into a time capsule from the late 19th century, with ornate wallpaper decorating the walls and lovely wooden furniture placed carefully in the premises. The walls are also decorated with a variety of art that make staying here a small adventure itself. My room (#32 incase youre curious) was very clean and well stocked with pillows and towels. I will definitely stay here again if given the opportunity.
The combination of the Victorian elegance & the modern amenities was wonderful. The local organic continental breakfast was perfect before a day spent in the redwoods. After a long day in the redwoods to come back to the Inn and have complementary tea, wine and local pastries was a perfect end of the day. After a long week of hiking around I was able to book an in room massage.
We stayed at the Inn at 2nd & C for a mini kid-free vacation. We were really looking forward to hitting up the fancy cocktail bar at night, eating a yummy breakfast in the morning, and doing yoga in the studio. Unfortunately, we found out that the bar was reserved Saturday night (by other hotel guests we then got to hear party late at night), they didn’t have a yoga teacher currently but we still had access (although no yoga mats accessible), and the kitchen was under renovation. Granted they had breaded items available, but being not able to eat bread made that a challenge. Also, our shower door never stayed closed and water always got everywhere. All that being said, I wasn’t going to leave a negative review - I don’t think I’ve written one before in my lifetime. The building itself was gorgeous and one of the front desk staff was super kind and helpful. However, when I left I realized I left behind my favorite little bag that a friend had sewn for me. I called and they said they’d send it to me. A week later, I called and they said they’d send it to me again. I called 5 TIMES TOTAL. How hard is it to put a bag in the mail? Or to just tell me they didn’t have it? The customer service I received after I left was deplorable.
Great little Inn! If youre looking for a historic hotel feel, this is it. Somewhat dated, no fridge, microwave, or coffee in our room, but no biggie. Old town charm as the receptionist chatted with us all through check in and put our names in at the bar/restaurant downstairs. Super close to the water also!
New owners are working on building this place up. Overall, its a pretty nice place to stay already but with improvements it could be great. Positives: Great price. Great staff. Really helpful and pleasant. Cute rooms. Gave us complementary champagne because it was our 25th wedding anniversary. Great body wash and soaps. Pretty comfortable bed. Very clean room. Nice tea and desserts. Nice wine. Nice antiques everywhere. Interesting and unique inn. Nice view. Quiet at night. In old town Eureka. Negatives: Terrible wifi. It sometimes works and then wont seconds later. Signal was strong enough but I suspect too much security was getting in the way. Had issues on my tablet, phone and PC. Some websites wouldnt load, some took many tries. Thin curtains that could be seen through at night. Also, they are 8 inches from the walls due to deep curtain rods so if you have trouble sleeping with a lot of light, this isnt the place for you. Water temperature fluctuated while shower. Lousy showerhead with not enough pressure. Toilet was small travel size. A man cant sit down and use it without rubbing against the bowl. Not enough counter space.
I visited with my family. We had a room with three beds in it. The room had no windows and no doors within it, save for the bathroom, which was unclean. Two of the beds were in a bunk bed set with threadbare sheets. The light over the bunk beds didnt turn on, so the only source of light was the overhead light above the queen bed. The entire hotel smelled musty, and everything was loud at all hours. I would not recommend this hotel.
We enjoyed our stay at the Inn(at 2nd and C)as we headed through Humboldt County this summer! Our family enjoyed the historic features of the inn, delicious and local breakfast choices, personal front desk assistance and convenient stroll in Old Town to visit shops and cafes. Great location to soak in historic Eureka. We will be back!
I have stayed here many times and have enjoyed most of the unique rooms they have made available since 1990, and I have to be honest, Iliked it MUCH better when it was owned by the old Korean guy who made it affordable & fun. Now it is stuffy & uncomfortable. Will not be staying (or eating) here again. Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road. REALLY- PHATSY KLINE?!? PLEASE, go under so a real business can make old town eureka worth staying again. PLEASE.
Stayed here spring 2016.Not recommending this place to anyone. Heres why. They offer a free breakfast (breakfast was packaged danishes, oranges or apples, and coffee/tea). The room we booked on their reservation site was double booked. We were upgraded to the penthouse which had a bed with biting insects, a very uncomfortable couch, and the whole room faced the setting sun, making it very uncomfortably hot in the evenings (makes you wonder what they upgraded us from). The curtains on the windows didnt close completely or really at all. The windows had screens in them once, but long ago fell out, and nobody had fixed them yet. First night we stayed here, somebody shot a gun multiple times nearby the inn- that sure makes you feel at home! Theres also a soup kitchen for the homeless a block away, so there are lots of transient folk around. Overall, the inn was over priced for the services received, but was the cheapest that was open when we needed the room and a shower. I wouldnt stay here again unless I hear they do some positive improvements.
The folks who run this place are more than dedicated to the cause of recreating a 130 year old Victorian Inn into a modern marvel. Complete with all the amenities for any style of traveler, this place is a must see for any visitor to Northern California and its amazing redwoods. The town of Eureka is small enough to fully access the Bay as well as old town right from the steps of the Inn at 2nd & C. Do yourself a favor and stay here!
The elegant antique charm of this huge castle w historic giant ballrooms is sure to charm! The staff are so kind and wonderful few places in the county have such attentive caring genuine amazingly amazing human beings as well even the drinks at the bar are as unique and genuine as they come, you will not be disappointed in the sophistication and class of this upscale AAAAA establishment
Twice Ive arrived and was able to get my motorcycle onto the dance room floor. Rooms are comfortable without AC and in the heart of old town for lots of dining and refreshment options. After a week on the road this remains the welcome and appreciated place to park and rest.
Absolutely loved this place, we drove up the coast and this is one of places we stayed the night. When we walked inside I got goosebumps! Absolutely beautiful woodwork, wallpaper, antique furniture, antique everything. So glad there are places like this still in existence!!
I attended a charity event at the Inn at 2nd and C. It was strictly an 18+ event. Its a beautiful building but very outdated. There was not enough seating for everyone. There was no ADA accessible bathroom. A child under 10 was running around barefoot, including being right next to the bar. Apparently her parents own the hotel. People were smoking right in front of the door. To be honest, Im going to suggest to the organization that hosted the event that they not use that venue again.
The Inn at 2nd and C is such a blast from the past. It is definitely not just a place to lay your head for the night but an experience to settle into and enjoy. Once there, there is so much to do without getting back in your car. The connected Phatsy Cline Lounge is amazing and then there’s the harbor directly across the street for an easy walk along the bay up to the ice-cream parlor, the downtown Eureka shops or just a wander through the alley adorned with brightly colored, fantastic murals. Just writing about it makes me want to go back so badly. May you weather this current COVID-19 storm and be back soon. We miss you.
Fascinating home, like Grandmas. Hang clothes in wardrobe, open dresser drawers like Grandma did. Not bothered; service upon request. Modern-ish bath, tall beds. Held family reunion and assistance very accomodating. Service for family dinner in ballroom very good. One problem: Wi-Fi not as goog in some rooms than others. With no phone in room, one feels back in the 50s-or earlier.
What a cool old well kept 1800s establishment. Very clean & hospitalble place.Hanna was a great host at this 1800s Inn.! Got a sweet Irish pub @ the inn. anything else you need is within walking distance.I know others wrote about homeless people or the neighborhood not being nice thats BS!We had 2 Victorian rooms on the 4th floor, it had a common sitting area with a view of the Pacific.Dont ever hesitate to give this place a chance, youll be amazed !
Really cute inn, but there was an event going on nearby. They did not even attempt to save their parking lot for their guests. Even the streets around were full. I ran in with my family in the car to see if they had somewhere else to park. The lady attending the desk had a very flippant attitude and told us we would just have to find somewhere. The area is not nice enough to feel safe walking many block to get to your hotel. Very poor customer service, and not good planning.
It was happy 4th! Every thurday at this location from 6:00 to 8:00 pm there is live music outdoors. Great concerts. A different variety of music from country to rege to pop people of all ages attend this event n just a fun outdoor evening activity .bring your camp chair n enjoy a couple hours of good clean fun .
Please read whole review...The inn is a historical treasure, and the new owners have done an amazing job. Complimentary glass of wine at check-in, courteous staff, intriguing architecture, beautiful antique furniture... Neat place to stay. 5 stars for the inn itself.HOWEVER... This hotel will fail. I grew up in Eureka, travelled the world during my 26 years in the Army, spent time in the dirtiest and most dangerous places in the world including Iraq, and saw the worst that the world has to offer. Coming home to visit, I am sad to say that I am ashamed of Eureka. The transients who were yelling, laughing, fighting, drinking, smoking weed, and keeping us up ALL NIGHT LONG are not the hotels fault. It is the people of Eureka and the City Managements fault. Is this the Freedom I fought for? My heart hurts. On top of that, my favorite place to eat in Eureka, Gallaghers pub, (located downstairs) shut the kitchen down early because nobody was coming in. It was 9:08 pm when I walked in. On a Saturday night. Perhaps people dont like to patronize a nice restaurant when it requires running a gauntlet of drunk, drugged, filthy freeloaders hanging out on the streets of downtown Eureka.I hope the new owners, and other business owners downtown will be able to use this review as proof the homeless/mentally ill/addicted/transient problem is destroying the cities financial future. Zero stars for Eureka. Clean it up guys.
Cant wait to stay here again. Rooms were clean and nice, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the breakfast provided was excellent and overall the experience we had was excellent. Will always stay here when I come to visit Eureka, which I hope will be really soon!
If you are old enough to have experienced your fair share of travel worldwide you owe yourself a trip to here. I have paid more than four times what I did here just to say cool, neat. This hotel is a different experience. I felt like I was transported to a movie. Again, you owe yourself a trip here.
The breakfast is very bad , fourth floor slants..bad. Hot water was nonexistent, had to complain to Lee, twice . window in room was totally broke off runners. Lee told me he knew about it already... Then fix it. I will not recommend this hotel. Oh one more thing, the homeless mission is across the street. All night long people walking around yelling
Under New Ownership!! After 25 years under the same ownership and management, the Eagle House Victorian Inn has been sold to a local family who have made incredible upgrades and renovations to the building, while keeping its unique Victorian charm. This boutique inn is now called the Inn at 2nd & C and its a must to visit and stay when passing through Eureka, CA.

2022-03-11We stayed here for two days and enjoyed it very much. The facility is a remodeled hotel from the 1800s with a great history. Rooms are furnished with antique furniture, very well broken in. Rooms are a bit chilly but portable heaters are provided. Very clean and well maintained. Bath facilities up to grade with plenty of hot water and pressure. Do yourself a favor and eat in the bar/restaurant. Incredible. Order the quail egg appetizer. You won’t regret it. All of the workers are friendly, helpful and Max the dog is the best. Don’t stay in some corporate chain hotel! Stay here you will make a memorable experience you won’t regret.

2022-06-14What a beautiful hotel the Inn at 2nd & C is. Each of the public area rooms is a feast for the eyes, the furniture, the decor, the half completed jigsaws tempting you to do your bit.I was overwhelmed by just how stunning this exquisite building was. The owners have done this historic property proud. Our room at the top of the building, under the copula was the prettiest room we stayed in on our two week trip, we loved it.The staff as you would expect with all the effort to make the place look and feel amazing, were well, amazing. Your hotel will live long in the memory of our USA holiday.

2022-06-25Comfy, spacious rooms in a funky, restored Victorian. Have fun exploring the windy old building, eating in the cool downstairs restaurant, or playing one of the boardgames found throughout the hotel. Our room was very plush and comfortable. We appreciated the eccentric and elegant vintage decor. So much more fun than your average hotel stay.

2022-01-03We stayed here over the New Years Eve holiday and could not have had a better experience. The staff were friendly, responsive, and helpful. We loved the hotel interior and how each room was unique. Parking was readily available, and we were able to walk to most shops and restaurants on the main street without any issues. The only thing Id point out for other visitors to consider is that sound throughout the hotel does travel. It didnt bother us as we had been expecting that and are all heavier sleepers, but I could see how it could be challenging for lighter sleepers. Earplugs are provided in the rooms, which is a nice touch.Overall, we are so glad we chose this property for our stay in Eureka and are already talking about coming back next time.

2022-06-09We really enjoyed our stay here. Its in a little bit sketchier part of town but you can tell that it is an up and coming area. Close to art galleries, nice shops, historic homes, and waterfront walkway. The room was very nicely appointed with Victorian furniture. Bed was comfy, big bathroom, large room, plenty of drawer space and closet (a vintage armoire). Plus modern conveniences - fan, heater, hair dryer, etc. Great view from our room and the staff was SO friendly and had lots of info about the area. While we didnt try the restaurant we did ask for some glasses to use and found a quiet corner to relax. There are so many out of the way spots to just settle in and enjoy the atmosphere of the hotel.

2022-06-06We stayed for one night last weekend and it was lovely. The whole building is super cool and the king suite we were in was amazing. It really is as cool as the photos online! We also enjoyed the coffee in the lobby in the morning, it was very peaceful even on a holiday weekend. We especially want to thank Cameron at the front desk for being very personable and accommodating!

2022-02-16We had an amazing time at the Inn at 2nd&C! It is a lovely historic building with lots of charm. The rooms are very clean and cozy. The beds themselves are very comfortable and soft. Everyone is super nice and always willing and ready to help accommodate your needs. Great location to walk anywhere around town.

2022-01-04The Inn at 2nd & C was such a cool historic hotel, and my week long stay was perfect. I was able to see other rooms within the hotel, and each room was unique in decor and decorative motifs. Beds were super comfortable with very nice linens. Service was great each time I needed something. Would definitely recommend this hotel to travelers who expect more than a mere cutter hotel!

2022-06-18Clean, comfortable bed, cool ambience, unique experience. Extremely helpful service by Geoffrey (?), the human of Max.However the curtains were very light weight and the street lights could be seen through it making the whole room glow all night. Loud shenanigans that could be heard in the street at the wee hours of the night.

2022-02-03This gorgeous hotel is packed with historical treasures and new artwork. It has a very romantic ambiance and fantastic, helpful staff. The bar has a really great, speak easy type atmosphere and the bar tenders are knowledgeable and prompt. I really enjoyed my stay here and hope to return again very soon! Check it out, its well worth the trip.
