Husband ordered the NorCal burger and I ordered the Thai chili wings. The burger was lightly seasoned, the bun was crispy but nicely so. The fries were a bit too salty so I would ask for no salt. The wings were great and the onion rings were crispy. Nice place and friendly staff. Generous portions.
Overall a good experience. One downside, I asked for a taste of a couple of the draft beers and was surprised by a $1.50 charge for each on my bill. I dont necessarily have a problem with paying for a taste but, it should have been shared when I asked for the tasting not a surprise charge at the end of the visit.
First of all your open basically whenever yall want to be there is no established business hours whatsoever for this place so if Google maps says their open dont count on it. They have a great music venue, its a separate large room with a stage and sound equipment. Unfortunately its not utilized often at all to be honest this place has potential its just been complacent with being okay for literally decades so if youre okay with okay then I suppose this place is okay otherwise go somewhere else. sorry hum brews for the low review but you have so much potential and it seems almost as if youre chill with not being great
Decent food, great beers, terrible customer service. Upon leaving the restaurant (after a 20+min wait for the check) our waiter paused a conversation they were having with their friends, then rudely yelled across the restaurant full of people to ask my date and I if we paid our bill. The person who closed out my check and I both responded that I had in fact paid my bill. As I was walking out the door in disbelief I could overhear the waiter telling their friend that they would be surprised with who walks out on the smallest of checks. Im thankful my date convinced me not to go back inside.
Great local spot with a good beer selection. The food was as expected and the wait times were as should be. Bonus points for local grass fed beef. Non-pretentious place to grab a beer at the end of your day or the beginning of your night. About 20 beers on tap, 5 tvs, plenty of seating, and a large projector screen at the far end for events (I assume). I would recommend for short stays in the local area. A good mix of locals and folks passing thru. A bit off topic but the local area has an obscenely large number of vagrants and transients. On a plus note, great for people watching through the bars windows!
This place can be loud at timethe food is mostly local grown, beers selection has alot of local companys as well...If u like sweet potato fries with a touch of customization(cheesy garlic on them) is the perfect appetizer to start with...They pool table is usually packed...If your looking for something tasty to eat an dont mind grabbing a brew while u wait this is the perfect place...
I can’t believe how insubstantial the $13 chicken and chips platter was. 4 baby strips and child’s hand full of fries? It was less than a kids menu. I had to double check what I paid. I’m kinda of offended. The salad was good. Best of luck to you guys, lost a local for food service.
Our server forgot to bring us silverware even after we asked him twice, he put in for fish tacos instead of prawn tacos for one of the orders, he gave one of us soda water with lime instead of the ginger ale that was ordered (he even called it ginger ale when he set it on the table), I heard another table have to remind him twice to bring them a beer that they ordered, and the restaurant was out of two beers they had on the menu. The food was fine, but nothing special at all. They probably dont even deserve two stars but Im guessing maybe it was just an off night for them all around.
I used to go here pre-COVID and honestly have never received good service. The waitresses have always been nice and the food is really good, but I have been here probably 30 times and at least half of my orders were messed up, so make sure to be really clear about your order. The chicken and chips is BOMB and their wings are reliable (the hot buffalo is HOT, but Im also a wimp). Ive noticed that since COVID has started, the portions have gotten smaller but the prices are still the same. The last time I went in to pick up a to-go order (which they messed up, so I had to hang out a little longer waiting for my order) the kitchen staff was shouting inappropriate sexual comments at the waitress (who was new and obviously uncomfortable) loud enough for my partner and I to clearly hear them. I hope that the place improves, because I used to frequent there; not so much anymore.
Really miss Red Nectar Ale. Man, that was good beer. Kind of sad that they didnt make it as a brewery. They serve a really strong Alaskan double IPA thats pretty good. Staff seems really nice. Wish they were better at advertising upcoming shows. The foods pretty good. They make a decent gyro, and an excellent salad. Prices are pretty good as well. Worth checking out.
Great beer selection and outstanding food made for a wonderful experience for us visitors to Arcata. My club sandwich was delicious and my girlfriends salad was one of the best shes had. Friendly service, great rock and roll playing in the background. We will definitely return!
The food here is not great. Very greasy and definitely not fresh. The mozzarella sticks were pretty bland and the burger had an odd texture to it. It was also very expensive for the quality of food served. This place does have a cool concert space though so if you want a beer and a show, go for it.
We absolutely loved our waiter, he was simply awesome. The food didnt take too long and it was definitely worth the price. Im not one to pay $16 a burger unless its that good. My burger was that good. The onion rings were killer too. The atmosphere was so chill. I would definitely go back here again.
Dined in a few times with various group sizes & couples. The food is amazing ! Good portion sizes , high quality of ingredients. The prices are decent & the place is kept clean. The atmosphere is very good. Most of the staff have been friendly , we’ve only had one poor experience in a group where our waiter was rude/poor service. I would recommend it & go again.
I used to come here when it was the Mad River Brewery, newly opened and with some of the best beer in America. Then they added the music venue and changed the bar from a family friendly place to a college student hang out, and the place lost all of its charm. I did go to one concert there after the change, and it was Randy Newman playing solo and the show was excellent even though we had to sit in folding metal chairs. I would never go back, though.
Went in Fathers Day with 6 adults and 2 kids. Service was good when we first got in but our waitress soon turned into the bartender so when we did want refills for our drinks we had to go to the bar to get them as we did want refills because it took 1.5 hours for our food to come out. When our food did come out it some was wrong and some of us got our food while others had to wait an additional 15 minutes for theirs. It honestly was a horrible experience. Food was okay. Seemed like they would have good staffing on a Fathers Day and right after a Crabs baseball game.
Way over priced, food takes forever to get and finally your receipt is not itemized so you dont actually know what your paying for..Family meal =1lb of hot wings=$122 fish tacos=$121 loadie burger=$14All got waters.Total was $88.16Seems like they charge by the minute as well becuase I cant understand there math.
Where do i begin. The lack of customer service right from the get go set the whole tone.Walking into this place you think its going to be a fun inviting place. Its not. You dont know if you seat yourself or if you have to wait to be seated. After waiting to be greeted for over 5 min and standing at the entrance looking like a fool i found my own table. Eventually the Waitress made her way to my table and asked with disgust if we were going to be eating because the kitchen was going to be closing in an HOUR and she wouldnt be around to take care of my table after it closed. After confirming that we would in fact be eating she asked to take our order which really didnt matter considering she got it wrong. The food isnt great. I imagine if you were drunk it would be fine and probably wouldnt even notice the flies walking all over your meal. But eating sober will only leave you feeling like you should have just regurgitated your previous meal. The best decision you can make about this place is to go somewhere else.
Nice atmosphere, friendly service, with a good selection of both (local) micro brews and macro brews. Best gig/concert venue as far as stage size and acoustics go among local breweries (excluding local casinos). The only draw back is that the kitchen/grill closes at 10 pm which is a couple of hours shy of when many performances are over. Excellent opportunity to meet and greet musicians and performers.
The wings were really great. I had the mango habanero sauce with it and it was out of this world. Perfectly cooked and the sauce was not overpowering. I was expecting it to be too hot but it was not.I also had a burger with honey mustard and mushrooms. It was very good. Best selection is excellent.
Dear Rob, I agree with Axle. We a party of 4 came in & got seated then forgotten. 10 minutes later we finally had our drink order taken. 15 minutes later drinks arrived & our food order was taken. After being there for 40 minutes the waitress informed us that our order got lost because the band (who came in after us) ordered a bunch of food! What a bunch of BS. The waitress was not at all gracious & completely sucked at her job. Were is the management & are they clueless or just apathetic? We were taking someone new to the area out for dinner. Since they arent Caucasian it made me wonder if the Humboldt Brews employs racist haters. It ended up being an completely embarrassing experience. Went to Hey Juans. Always good food & quick service. Take note Humboldt Brews. Thats is you even care enough to read your reviews.
Inviting space with a large selection of beer on tap. Great place to watch sports with many TVs strategically located. I had a guac zilla burger that was cooked perfectly; it was delicious and the onion rings were really good too. Elijah took good care of me and everyone else at the bar. For locals and those passing through, its hard to see how you could go wrong.
Have eaten here before and food and beer were both decent. Just made the permanent move here a few days ago, went to see if HB would be streaming the Phish shows. Hung around for about twenty minutes and not one staff member even made eye contact with me. It was 3:30ish not super busy. This pregnant lady was.very disappointed to miss out on the pickled eggs.
We went there last night for a catered birthday party. The food was amazing. Tri-tip, salad, potatoes. Everything was super fresh and perfect. The service was great and all of the employees were very helpful. It was in the private side room with its own bar and stage. Definitely impressed.
Called in to Humboldt Brews with my boyfriend at around 10 o’clock at night. As are not local to the area, we had googled it prior to arriving and confirmed it was open until 12 in the morning. We immediately received a very frosty welcome from our bar tender (Shayla) which was only made worse when she interrupted our order to then lock the front door behind us. Took our drinks and sat ourselves near the window. Within seconds a family approached the door, couldn’t get in and asked us through the window how we did. I went to over to our bar tender and let her know people trying to get in and asked if the bar then closed? She simply said, “we’re done”- this was now only 22:10.Finished our drinks quickly and left as it had been made clear there was no other choice. Most unwelcoming bar I’ve ever been to. I’ve worked in bars for years and would never treat a customer in this way (or presume to close the bar early because I felt like it).
This place is great for wing Wednesdays. They have 2lbs of the drumettes for $20. There are multiple flavors and sauces to chose from and they all come with your choice of ranch or blue cheese for dipping sauces. The beers are very fairly priced with ciders and kombucha on tap as well. It gets pretty loud the later in the night it gets but never to loud that you cant hear your table mate.
Wow that is some great hot wing sauce! If you like it hot get the hot you will be thrilled! Fish is perfectly crisp out side amd flaky on the inside. The onion rings amd fries are good but not quite as good as the rest. The beer list is not crazy long and you will know most. Try what you dont know you wont be disappointed.
Great beer selection with HUGE portions and service thats perfect for a bar/restaurant. Awesome to see a place that has a beers abv on the menu, and if youre a fan of fishn chips their quality is top notch and the fries made fresh. Theres also a yoga studio upstairs :).
The place has changed so much since I used to be a regular that Im not even sure if this is my old pub. If it was once Humboldt Brewery owned by former Raiders great Mario Celatto, then its the right place. They had the North American winner for best stout (oatmeal stout, my all time favorite) and a wide selection of ales, pilsners and lagers made on the spot. They also served THE BEST Buffalo wings Ive ever had, which went with the beer superbly. Back then, it was a sit down family restaurant in front with a sports bar in the rear, filled with Raiders paraphernalia. Mario was usually behind the bar and was a friendly host who invited his former playmates to come to the bar to visit. Then one day, he changed it all. The place closed for refurbishing and when it opened, it was then a pub only aimed at the annoying hippie college crowd: loud, obnoxious, filled with a hundred young morons who believed they were brilliant to a man. I never went back again. But it sure was a great place until he ruined it.
Walked in and couldnt find a clean table to sit at, finally sat at one with just dirty glasses on it. About 5 minutes went by and female finally came and cleared the table and said she would be back to take our drink order, 17 minutes later (i was going to give her 20 minutes but my patients ran out) we walked out. I wonder if she ever noticed or cared.
Out of the respect I have for this establishment and the otherwise excellent service and staff I dont have it in me to leave a one star rating, but I really really want to based on the sad excuse for service we experienced on our last visit with the infamous waitress Timlin. Took our order without writing anything down and of course when our food came and it wasnt correct she decided it most definitely wasnt her mistake because quote I know how to do my job. My mom is a waitress and I would never hold it against anyone for making a mistake, no one was even upset but the negative attitude and condescending tone was too much for me to not leave this review. I leave a 5 star rating because this place is really a gem in humboldt and shouldnt lose business because of one bad apple.
I recommend that you stop here in Arcata for delicious pub food and cold beer. We stopped in for dinner and got the fish tacos, buffalo wings (huge, spicy, hot and AWESOME), and a meltingly delicious patty melt with fries. Great selection of beers including the full range of the Lost Coast Brewerys offerings. The only gripe I had with the food was with the fries - they seemed overdone, greasy and limp. The huge projection screen playing sports and a pool table ensure that you wont be bored.
This is, and has been, one of my favorite places to eat in all of Humboldt County. For years they have demonstrated consistent quality in their food and beverage selection. Employees are treated well and obviously enjoy their jobs, evidenced by the excellent and friendly customer service. The Loadie and Guac-zilla Burgers are my favorites, though Wing Wednesday is worth looking out for, they have creative wing sauces that are worth trying even if it sounds strange - ie Wonka Wings made with Poprocks!!! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
The management here is as bad as it gets. If you complain about a dirty glass or something not being served properly, you will get harassed and kicked out if the bartender happens to be the owner that day. It is owned by numerous people so no ONE particular person ever cares.*** It is a place that runs itself, strictly because there is no other options in Humboldt of places to go.*** When I complained to the owner about toilet seat covers not being provided in the womens bathroom, he suggested that I learn to make a seat cover using Toilet paper. !***Then I mentioned to the bartender that they had a rude and offensive sticker on their bar, and the owner instructed her mindless bouncers to put their hands on me! When I asked for my money back for the expensive show ticket the police said that I need to take Humbrews to court for my money back. That place is ridiculously awful !!! It is simply stupid to go out for a good time and leave feeling ripped off.

2022-06-15Great beers and great food. Sat outside on the dog friendly patio. Elvis really liked it and gave it four paws up which is his highest rating.Service was excellent - friendly, attentive and quick. We had a Hefeweizen & the hazy IPA. Both were very good. I really enjoyed the Yumi hazy which was very fruit lemon forward. For food, I had the French dip & the Boss had the patty melt. Excellent! The onion rings were hot / just out of the frier. We also had a cup of the clam chowder which was really really good.Humbolt Brews is a super venue. Highly recommended. You should go!

2021-09-08Had a great experience at Humboldt Brews while visiting the Arcata/Eureka area. Service was very friendly and helpful. They seemed a bit understaffed, but our server was still very responsive and helpful. Nice selection of beers on tap. The BBQ tofu burger was awesome. I loved the spicy homemade bbq sauce, and it was so big that I only ate half and took half with me. My mom got the fish and chips, which more than met her expectations.

2021-07-22I came for game 6 of the NBA Finals. I couldn’t find any other legitimate sports bar in the area and this place delivered! It was full of people and they had the game on all of the TVs and it was a great atmosphere. It seemed like they were a little short staffed because everyone was nice, but it took a really long time to get my food. It was delicious once it came out though! Will definitely go back the next time I’m in town and there’s a big sporting event going on.

2021-07-14We passed this while checking out what is in Arcata. Stopped by around 4pm on the 4th of July. The outside seats were full so we ate indoor. The place is massive with lots of TVs towards the back. I had a Fall River Numb Numb Juice Hazy IPA which was like drinking a boozy juice rather than beer. My husband had the Deschutes Black Butte Porter which he described as good but not a typical porter. We had the Thai chili wings since their wings were described as award winning. We inquired about the awards and were quickly shown several plaques on the wall. I can see why it won so many awards - cooked just right. The sauce added a nice little kicker but not too spicy. (They had other wings that seemed spicier so I stayed away from those.).

2022-05-28One of the best bars around if you want food. Great wings and sweet potato fries. Its mostly beer but a few ciders and mixed drinks.

2021-07-01Waited over 1+ hour for our food. Seems the cook lost our order, or was it the waitress? People that showed up and got seated 30-40 minutes after us was getting food right away. We had to ask... what the hell is going on? I hate to leave a bad review, but nothing went right. We should have just left 🤷♂️ BUMMER

2022-05-03Kinda figured the food was going to be, just ok. But the bartender didn’t want to serve.. anyone at the bar, my fries were a pile of browned 1” pieces that looked like they came out of the bottom of the bag.#neveragain

2018-06-05The beers that we had were great. We started off with some fried mushrooms which they give you a very generous portion of. We were told that it would take about 30 minutes for our food orders to arrive but the mushrooms were at our table within 10 minutes. The rest of our food arrived shortly later. I had a burger and the wife had the patty melt. Both of these were good for a brew pub. Our fries were warm like they had been sitting out for a while. The server asked if I wanted ranch with the fries and I responded yes. When we got our bill we were charged for the ranch which we had not been told was an additional charge.
