I think it is a cool place to visit. And if you go 8 miles north on the 15 from Barstow you can see places like Peggy Sue 50 diner great food,, there is also a little town called Ghost Town,, and then u can Stop at Eddies World.

We really enjoyed our visit to Bartstow. The antique shops down there were very interesting. The street was well maintained and clean.

All the thrift shops are closed on Sunday. There was a clothing store open, US Outlets, but you have to dig to find things. Like really dig. Prices arent too bad, got a pair of Filas for $24.99. No AC so it was super hot inside.

All boarded up.popular with the homeless pan handlers and the like. trash every place. May try less fines more community service. Cross walks every 1/4 mile $250 fine for j walking. Urban decay at its best.

Seems the historic district is mostly vacant stores . There is a fountain next to the bank there that has not seen water for many years. However, the area is clean and I havent seen half as many panhandlers since the closing of the homeless shelter in that area.Parking is not easy if you want to shop one of the three antique type shops there. You must drive around on the back street to park behind the shop and its a little creepy.I rarely shop here.....A police substation in this area would be a welcomed sight to me.Hopefully someday the shops will fill up with interesting antique stores or something of that nature? For now it seems like more of a blighted area than a historic district.Being on Historic Route 66 is no doubt, a tourist draw.... If Barstow has someone who understands marketing and can see the bigger picture of the opportunity in the Old Town district, things could be amazing in Old Town Barstow
