I havent been out to get coffee bc Ive been trying to reduce my waste impact. I had a meeting here & was a bit anxious but to my pleasant surprise, I was able to get my dirty chai & vegan cookie on reusables! The outdoor space was spacious and green - one would hardly think so based on the exterior. The dirty chai (with oat) was delicious and even more memorable in a ceramic mug. The vegan cookie was a tad sweet but what else would one expect from a cookie? Would definitely come here again esp since they roast their coffee in house. Make sure to sign up for the rewards!
What a cool lowkey but super spacious coffee shop in downtown Santa Ana. I ordered the Maple Latte with Oat Milk to-go and a slice of banana bread. Both items were delicious and I cant wait to return. The cashier was really friendly and there was just a nice vibe about the place. Theres a massive patio outside so I cant wait to come back. This place is worth a visit! I stopped by early Thursday morning and it was super calm and quiet with good music. Perfect place for personal time or to meet with a colleague or friend.
Finding a coffeeshop with spacious sitting area is not always easy. This branch of Hidden House coffee has a great outdoor sitting area with tables spaced out for social and physical distancing. Hidden House coffee is one of the best in Orange County. This was our first time visiting Santa Ana location and we were thrilled by the service, quality coffee and cool vibes the place gives. We also order our in house use coffee beans from Hidden House. They have the freshest and most aromatic coffee roast.
Founded in 2010, and since expanded from San Juan Capistrano to Santa Ana, Hidden House Coffee is no longer so secret, though the Café inside a 1914 brick warehouse retains an intimate feeling where locals gather to talk, sip and eat in front of an 18 Kilogram capacity roaster.A passion project from owner Ben Briggs, Hidden House’s expansion from what some consider the oldest street in California a calculated move targeting new clientele plus increased output, it is along East Santa Ana Boulevard that guests will find the 2,400-square-foot space surrounding a central bar with outside patio and on-site bakery near opposing doors.Urban in location but vintage by appearance, brick and concrete softened by foliage, it is once seating is secured that most make their way to room’s center, baristas either buzzed or flighty but extremely laid back while detailing the flavor profiles of several roasts offered as Espresso or Pour-Over.Using Mahlkonig grinders and Synesso machines with all the expected noise, while overhead music is predictable Coffee Shop stuff, it was eventually opting for Cocoa-perfumed Cold Brew that the bill was paid, the next ninety minutes spent sipping while using free Wi-Fi and indulging in Pastry. All in-house production, the roaster up front and bakeshop visible through glass, Breakfast began with Banana Bread, its crumb fragrant and moist with Raisins while Almonds as well as Walnuts each added texture and their characteristic taste.Continuing with Fruit, Hidden House’s Scones nothing like the dry and flavorless versions found throughout England, only those who like *lots* of Frangipane should consider the almond Croissant filled with cloying Paste, while the Chocolate Chip Cookies are somewhat slight on Chips but otherwise well-made with crispy edge around soft center.
Great art house style coffee house. Note, at the time I visited there was no decaf espresso available. Also parking is a bit confusing. There is a parking lot accessible from a side street but it is signed that it is private parking only. However I did see several people going to the coffee house park there.
Truly a hidden Jem of OC. They have on site roasting. Very nice ambience and sitting area, they even have a nice outside patio behind the store. My Americano was just excellent and the way I love it , and their almond croissant was yummy delicious warm and soft and very flavorful, will definitely go out of my way to stop by here again when I am in the area!! Baristas were bit on the dry side...cheer up guys, you could make the experience even so much more awesome!
Hidden gem (maybe not so hidden but it rhymes) in the Santa Ana neighborhood, away from the downtown area! Lovely backyard that’s quiet and beautiful, especially in the morning when you can hear the bird chirping. Decent drinks and nice staff. The daily brew tasted just as fresh as you’d get if it were a pour over
This is a great space, both inside and out. The courtyard in the back is something I rarely see in Southern Cali, ... it reminds me of something I might find out of state. Its definitely an atmosphere thats sometimes appreciated in a great community coffee shop. Trees, fresh air, and it doesnt feel like its part of a crazy hustle and bustle of the city.Friendly staff. In house bakery kitchen. In house roasting.I tried a couple different coffees and they were varied in taste but all high in quality.Shared a few different pastries,... the vegan cookie was rich and delicious. The apricot & thyme scone with glaze was savory and good. The bagel bomb was awesome w a flavored cream cheese filling. Def try that! Unique. We got the last one on that day. When youre in the area, check them out. And their outdoor beer garden, Dear Lacy, is steps away and has soft opened.
Im a huge fan of coffee shops that roast their own beans. This place has it down. I had the privilege of visiting during the fall season, and I gotta say as basic as it sounds, their pumpkin spice latte is the best. Ive had PSLs from other shops, both big and small alike, and no one has come close to their crafted flavor. The pumpkin is prominent, yet not overbearing. Its paired with their in house roasted coffee so you still get the bold but smooth espresso flavor you know and love. Its a match made in heaven the way they craft it. So hot or iced, whole or almond milk, it doesnt matter. Its the best one around. I frequently make the 25 minute drive from my office to this shop just because its that good. And outside of fall, their coffee bangs.
This location holds a special place in my heart. Its a great place to catch up with friends and family for drinks and delicious treats. I adore this place. Its not a big business, but they have a variety of seating options. Its a peaceful, quiet setting with a gentle, soothing vibe. I wholeheartedly recommend this coffee shop to everyone.
The most respectable coffee shop in my neighborhood. I never expected this location to hold such significance for me. Their coffee tasted just as it did back then. I valued their services because they had not changed in a long time. It was definitely worth the money! The interior is stunning from the outside to the inside. Excellent pricing and customer service!
HHC makes good use out of the rustic building it inhabits. The coffee roasters/press is part of the decor, and the bakery is visible behind glass windows. Like any modern coffee shop, its wifi accessible and stuffed with a variety of Millennials on their device. The drink list is simple and the Chai I ordered was creamy and smooth.Be aware that parking can be a bit of a challenge as they have only a few spots in the adjacent lot.
Good 🌄 Morning Friends and family. I had the pleasure of doing some traveling yesterday to see some old faces that I havent got to see i quiet some time. Now its always a pleasure to get to spend time with those that you hold dearest to your heart.Once I arrive in town I took notice of a church that was near Saint Joseph Church. But while i was on my way I seen Roaster Coffee Shop. I decided that hey im going to check this Coffee Shop Out It was my pleasure stopping in and seen some new faced and very kind people that were there to help you out to serves you the best Roast Coffee That Santana has to offer. So thank you for that. I know where to go once I visit again. Blessings
Love my Hidden House Coffee! Its near my work and so I often will go to pick up a nice, fresh coffee. Theres lots of street parking so youll always be able to find a parking spot. Theres inside and outdoor seating as well which gives a nice variety of locations to sit at. Their staff is also very friendly and will help you with any questions you may have.
Awesome spot for amazing coffee! The barista knew exactly how to pitch every item they had and made it sound like everything on the menu was amazing. I had their hot mocha and was blown away by the taste and I accompanied my coffee with one of their delicious pastries which are freshly baked in house every day !!! Definitely returning!
Super clean space, absolutely massive amount of seating for a coffee shop, inside, outside, everywhere is just tables. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff with killer in house pastries and roasting done right in view of the bar. Love being here, the only issue is parking is a bit scarce but if you can find a spot its well worth it to circle for a few minutes.
Nice place to study, good black coffee, large space with a lovely outdoor patio. Super simple decor. Not many breakfast options, but their selection is simple and yummy. I had their bacon cheddar bagel ball thing and really enjoyed it.If youre looking for a breakfast place, this provably isnt the spot for you. I think they serve more food on the weekend.Love the open concept and large windows, a lot of natural light. Mainly small tables for one or two people, bar seating, and very little tables for large groups. As for parking, I did not find an open lot. I parked on the street; either side of the shop works. Just look out for parking signs. The building itself is easy to spot, and stands alone between the two small streets.
Great service, high quality coffee roasted on site, fair prices, great atmosphere, pastries made in house as well.Seriously great spot. This has become a regular Saturday morning routine for me and my family. The kids love saying hi to the baristas and look forward to the hot chocolate, bagel bombs and other house made pastries.Definitely recommend getting a traditional cappuccino and almond croissant. Cant go wrong with any of the pastries though honestly.Sit out on the back patio under the shade trees if your kids need to stretch their legs.
This place has a good atmosphere with plenty of outside and inside seating , the music is always good & they don’t just stick to one genre which I love. Definitely a place where you can comfortably study for a bit & catch up with friends. The coffee is made by some pretty amazing baristas. They know what they’re doing & are always lovely & welcoming. The coffee in general is super yum!I especially appreciate there’s an option for me to have a vegan pastry. Their cookies are the bomb.Come & see for yourself, you’ll love it :)
Parking is a little hard to find in this neighborhood. The interior is similar to most small coffee shops these days. Nice but nothing special. The cashier was unfriendly at best. We were obviously first-timers here. She left us looking around confused looking for the menu. We finally found the really small menus which were made out of slabs of wood which was actually cool. She didnt make any recommendations or help at all. She just stared at us then said something smart about taking the menus. Maybe she was having a bad day. We ordered and ended up sitting on their outside patio since all their indoor seating was taken up by people on their laptops. The whole buy one coffee and take up a seat for hours at a coffee shop thing really bothers me. It must cut into their profits but these little places dont seem to care. In the end, the coffee was average at best. There are much better options in the area for a good cup of coffee and a place to chill.
I love the coffee here! ...just mistifies me why coffee houses cant have better food. Im NOT saying to follow in Starbucks footsteps. However, it wouldnt be hard to improve upon their food. Please refer to & go to Analog Coffee in Calgary, AB. They have equally awesome coffee AND a small selection of amazingly good sandwiches. With such a nice space at Hidden House Coffee, ....it would make it for more reasons to visit.
Amazing that there is a coffee shop roasting their own beans in his tiny town, but here it is and its great. They make their iced latte with concentrated cold brew and its delicious. Our 3-year-old had a peach apricot smoothie and loved it. Great location and charming space as well.
1 star specifically due to masks enforcement. Its disappointing to have to write this review however I have tried to contact HHC for a week through different avenues and have received no response regarding the events we have been seeing happen at your SA location. My husband and I try to visit the SA location at least once a week (especially since COVID) to support and make sure your coffee shop remains open. As proud SA residents, HHC is our first choice of coffee in SA/ Tustin/ Orange and the first one we recommend to people.Recently it has been harder for us to choose to continue to visit your SA location.Over the last two weeks we have seen the same family (husband, wife and adult daughter/ young woman with them) order inside without masks. They appear to know the staff and the young woman entered the bakery prep area and hugged the employee making the baked goods upon leaving. The same couple was there last Sunday with a different young woman (all mask less). I know you have a partnership with Mariners on Sundays, however it seems they have multiple guests that don’t wear masks either with ordering before they join the group out back.We want to continue to choose you as our favorite neighborhood coffee shop. We know it can be hard for your staff to address customers about wearing masks but there is a sign on your door that masks are required for entry and per CDPH face masks must be worn especially indoors. We care about you all and want you to stay open and healthy. Please keep your staff and coffee shop safe and welcoming for everyone during this difficult time.Thank you
My wife and I went to HHC this morning and got a cinnamon roll, mocha, and oat milk latte. The cinnamon roll was fresh out of the oven and was transcendent! I have seldom had a baked item this good from anywhere! The mocha and latte were great and the service was lovely. I love this little place a couple blocks from home. Keep it up HHC.
Nice enough place, but good luck finding a place to park. The huge empty parking lot next to it is off limits and the spots on the nearby streets are constantly filled. I’m sure this place is great for locals who live close enough to walk. Once inside the place is spacious, nice, genuine, and the staff is friendly. Coffee and pastries are pretty typical for the average trendy west coast coffee shop. I was not a fan of their music selection as it was exclusively heavy metal on the afternoon we were there.Bottom line: If you are a walk in it should be fine, if you are a drive in I would recommend going somewhere with a dedicated parking lot.
I had a latte with the alternative milk option. Quite pricey as must hip and trendy coffee shops charge. I’m quite a coffee pero son and splurge on lattes from time to time since i have to pay extra for milk alternatives. The place is cute but the coffee was a miss. Their espresso was so bitter i could barely drink my latte. It was a quick butter tase upon pressing my lips to the mug and then the sip confirmed the beans were gross. I did get a cute profile picture but not worth my $6. The staff wasn’t friendly but I should’ve complained instead of forcing bitterness down.
Coffee is great. Probably a step above Starbucks or Coffee Bean but its a little expensive. $4 for a large coffee and its really not a large. Its more like a medium size. My big issue besides the price is when I went to pay they wouldnt take cash. They said Management didnt want to take the risk because of Covid whatever the hell that means. So I tell them all I have is cash. Then I noticed a Tip Jar with cash in it. I say to the cashier So you guys wont take cash but you have a tip jar...with cash she said yeah sorry so I said How about this. You give me a large coffee and Ill throw $4 in the tip jar? She agreed and I got the coffee. Just seemed really stupid
The atmosphere is everything. Its truly hidden lol because I almost missed it. I love the bar seating (which have outlets 😁) and the outside patio. The staff are friendly and gave quick service. And to top it all off the music was perfect which made everything come together. I had a latte which was great too (with a little honey) and HHC offers alternative milk (I had almond milk) which they offer it to you in a big mug.
There are better coffee shops around. This particular shop lacks in a few areas. There is so much potential here though! First, you have to park on the street. Second, there is a huge patio but too much concrete. Trees and bushes have been planted which offsets how much concrete there is on the patio but that means more bugs, unfortunately. I had to kill several ants while trying to eat, I lost count on how many I saw/killed that was crawling on the table I was trying to eat and do work on. Also, the patio needs more seating/tables... I would recommend bigger tables for more work space and large umbrellas to provide more shade. I also would recommend gaining pest control for the patio as well. Also with the patio (and this also has to do with customer service...), my drink took about 6-7 minutes to make (maybe even longer). The reason I’m bringing this up is I don’t want to stand around waiting for my drink especially when my food is ready within a couple minutes. I want to immediately find a table and sit while waiting, and had intentions of sitting on the patio. It doesn’t appear to have a mic outside to inform customers that their drinks are ready to be picked up at the counter, so an employee came out to tell me my drink was ready. So I had to get back up to go get my drink from inside... if you are going to have an employee come out to tell me this, please just be productive and bring my drink to me. I saw someone walk around the patio a few times to pick up empty cups and plates, so you guys are allowed to come out to the patio... just found it really odd my drink wasn’t just handed to me outside if I told the cashier that my order was for here and not to-go. Other coffee shops do this. Third, their food options are only okay. I did try an egg and cheese croissant which was okay. Also, no soy milk option and your only coffee flavoring is vanilla? WHAT??? What about hazelnut? What about caramel (my favorite)? This is a coffee shop that doesnt even have caramel?? Im so confused. Lastly, the price point for everything is too expensive for the average quality, especially compared to other shops in the area. The average price I should pay for my same order, no matter where I go, should be $11-$12 before tipping... my order here came to almost $16. I did add an extra star because it does have a slight speakeasy feel from the outside and has a great look on the inside... just lacks, like I already mentioned. Again, lots of potential to be good, but to not have caramel at a coffee shop and to pay more than average for just average coffee and is crazy and is instantly a ‘no-go’ for me. I actually considered turning around and leaving to go to my other coffee shop, but stayed to give this place a chance.
Cool shop, definitely hidden. Really good Almond Croissants! Coffee is alright but everyone’s taste is different. I feel as though the staff doesn’t always make people feel welcome. Also they’ve gotten my order wrong a couple times I’ve come here. Every time I ask for Iced Dirty Vanilla Chai but never get the shots in it.
An ok place to get some coffee and hang out for a bit. The location isnt great since theres no parking in the area except for residential or sparse street parking. Prices are expensive, $4+ for lattes and cappuccinos. Iced latte tasted watered down and the cappuccino was alright but a bit on the burnt side. The brown sugar scone wasnt too bad. Overall prefer Bardot, EuroCafe, and Brot over this place.
Im pretty tired of these places. Super hipster environment with over priced mediocre coffee. Some how all these places manage to make their coffee taste the same, bland and watery. These places have nothing to offer but spectacle for hipsters to take pictures and sit there on their laptops. If you want a coffee worse than one you can make at home without sitting at home, this is your go to.
No one present to take orders - had to start soliciting employees for help after waiting with no one approaching. Ordered cold brew - tasty but not inexpensive. Waited for my cold brew before needing to ask why talking so long, at which point employees informed me that my drink was ready and waiting on the opposite side of the island (would have been nice to have been told my drink was ready, or where they had deposited it without needing to inquire). Beans are on the expensive side (starting at $16 for 12oz, and going up from there). Overall, not impressed.
This place is so nice when im cutting through santa ana i love pit stopping for some good lattes here. plenty of parking next door. quick service. great latte art and great taste. the almond croissant is expensive but always so worth it. so good! this place has plenty of indoor and outdoor patio for seating. wi-fi is nice too.👍🏼🤓👍🏼
If you find a coffee shop with better coffee (like actual coffee not the broken coffee that needs fixing) better staff (Im talking Chick-fil-a quality minus the blood red outfits) and better atmosphere (theyre in an old body shop for goodness sake... ) then check your self cause youre spreading fake news. But seriously, grab an electric scooter, get over there and make sure to ask if Ben is there... They love that.
I give only 4 out of 5 stars because the Acoustics are not so great and theyll need to do some work with the sound system. Most people go to Kofi cafes not particularly to listen to music but to do their own work school work or to chat and such and so they need some minor adjustment to keep the music more in the background or to keep the sound clean and clear. It looks like an old barn and the coffee is excellent and they make some beautifully-crafted mochas and couple Chinos. Its not the cheapest place in the world and the pastries which I did not try where preventively expensive, I think $4 for a very simple butter croissant. But the staff is knowledgeable and very thoughtful and welcoming, and it looks like a great place to sit socialize and enjoy or from a student or Scholars perspective to sit with your book and do some damn work.
My favorite hhc, i like the original but this location is SO BIG its awesome. employees are friendly for the most part, there are some that are not as helpful. the coffee is great, i love to just get the drip hot coffee. my favorite is the peru and the guatemalan blends. although Im not a huge fan of the over coffee, I would say its an acquired taste because its very fruity, more so than normal
I tried their espresso. I usually go with either espresso or macchiato when I end up with higher end, gourmet, their wave type of coffee shop. I also curious to see how their baristas make drinks especially in an open setup like HHC. My espresso came out extremely sour, or bright in coffee flavor. It was so sour to the point I think I was sipping vinegar minus the smell. I also tried sip of their vanilla latte, which obviously used the same batch of beans. Surprisingly their vanilla latte was near perfect. It has that nice scent of coffee, buttered up with silky milk, with micro foams bubbling up just the right way to make my senses happy. Since my espresso was so sour that I had to ask the barista. He seems to know a lot about coffee then he thought it was because of the freshness of the roasted bean. I read somewhere afterward that usually that undesirably strong sense of sourness comes from either wrong grind consistency or just a bad technique used. That espresso wasnt drinkable but at the same time the vanilla latte was so well done.
Excellent coffee. Their custom pour over dispensers served a flavorful cup. The pastries are made in house with the same care as the coffee, but behind bulletproof glass as you come in. It’s a charming, silent welcome. Staff has full grasp of their craft without being full of themselves. They’re a credit to today’s friendlier baristas.
Good pastries and coffee n espresso. Price is up there, so be sure to go when you got $10 to spend for a pastry and americano or machiatto. The one thing I didnt like is the fact that its all gentrified up in that neighborhood where I used to live. Its a very hipster area with that kind of atmosphere; a type of place I struggle to be in. Most likely will not visit again.
The few, overpriced baked items should at least be fresh and of top quality. Ive never seen such tiny muffins. The banana bread I had was dried out on one side, so it was probably laying around for a couple days. Because the dried up slab was hard to swallow, I asked for some butter, but I was rudely told by the barista no butter. The freshly baked scones came with butter, but I guess thats only because of the $5 premium (my partner had one of those, and it was kinda stale tasting). The place looks very nice with a cute backyard, although seating is lacking. The espresso itself was good, just do yourself a favor and skip the munchies.

2022-02-06This might be the best cafe youve ever been to. It has an incredible environment. Employees are very good. The coffees are incredible. You should definitely try the croissants. It has nothing to do with the croissants we eat in Turkey. the music is great, the atmosphere is great, in short, everything is legendary. Do not pass without a coffee break.

2022-07-04It is one of my favorite specialty coffee in the area. Their products tasted wonderful but they need more work of milk steaming. Clean kind and cozy. For the parking, there is a parking lot next to it with lots of spaces. They have back seating area too.

2022-05-18This is a great little café a short walk from downtown Santa Ana! The space inside is fairly big and they roast their own coffee beans. I got a vanilla chai latte and blueberry scone. The scone was amazing, just sweet enough and packed with blueberries. The chai is okay, not the best but still enjoyable to drink. This is a great breakfast choice if you live or work nearby.

2022-03-04Another “hidden” gem in Santa Ana. Hidden House coffee shop has one of the best aesthetics and themes in Orange County. The red brick and open ceiling is pure 🔥🔥🔥. Not only is the shop bada$$ but so is their coffee. They make and prepare the coffee on-site and also offer inside sitting at the bar, tables, or even outside in the patio. Check this place out!

2022-06-23We love the Los Rios location and finally made it here. Such a great, open space. Lots of seating and a cool patio. Such a great place to work or relax. They already have the best coffee and the location is just icing on the cake.
