Visiting from out of state, was looking for a good brunch and we found Hey Juan’s!Burritos were amazingly good, the death paste salsa was amazing to eat with the burritos and the guys provided great service even with all the Covid -19 restrictions. Thanks guys for some delicious fresh food for a quick bite during our site seeing!
They did such a wonderful job at the quality of my food items. Then working with me and viewing me as as a valued costumer instead of just more money coming in. The only critique I can give is that they need to put more salsa in the burritos. Everything was delicious except for that it could have used more sauce.
Really inconsistent since the newest owners took over. Salsa amount is always different, burrito size always changes every time I order. The chips are the really cheap kind you can buy from any grocery store… no paste beans only whole beans so most food will fall out/go everywhere.More Tex mex/so cal Mexican than authentic Mexican. There are better, more consistent spots.
Today there was an unmasked person eating inside this business when they supposedly adhear to covid guidelines and regulations. The staff said that this person knows the owner and that he eats here frequently. As a customer, this makes me greatly distrust Hey Juans as a business.
I had the simply vegetarian enchilada combo pinto beans , rice with the hot sauce then an order of chips and salsa - the salsas I ordered were hot sauce and the devil spit sauceHonest feedback -Areas needing improvement 1. Chips - they taste store bought and not homemade and way too salty2. Devil spit sauce - it’s hot for sure but the recipe and or heat level takes away from any flavor -Areas that are awesome -1. Rice and pinto beans were on point - great seasoning , flavor and texture on both -2. Veggie enchilada - tasted fresh , cooked and seasoned perfectly just a great bite of foodOutstanding exceptional areas1. The hot sauce - it’s green based and has a very strong heat level with amazing flavor - this sauce is one of the absolute best hot sauces I have ever eaten and I’m a “ pepper head” this is one special sauce they should bottle it if they don’t already2. Customer service was excellentI highly recommend this place you won’t be disappointed
It’s great that they have vegan options, especially for it being a Mexican restaurant but it’s not worth the visit. For two burritos my girlfriend and I waited over 30 minutes to get them, and it was not a busy day. The cashier missed a few items that we ordered and blamed us for it but said he’d be willing to charge us again for it. Will never be coming back.Update: this burrito gave me food poisoning right after I wrote my original review. Moving to 1 star.
These guys do a great job and the place is clean and the food is fresh. There are four or five different salsas and they all are good. Im a vegetarian and I find a lot of options. The owners are present, working with their employees and there is some love put into every meal. Plus, its a fun place to have a beer
Hey Juan has an amazing ambiance and it is quaint and quite enjoyable. Though they have pleasant looks, their food is not good. I went there a few times to see if it differed depending on the chef, but every time my burrito was bland. They gave us salsa that was quite delectable, but too overpowering and did not help cover up the abominable taste of the burrito. I would not recommend.
I got the small vegan delux burrito for $6.50 & my partner got the lg delux meat burrito for $8 & we shared chips & salsa for $2. all our food was really delicious!!! the burritos were huge too & really hit the spot. I was super impressed with mine, the tofu is cooked excellent. My only negative feedback is that we ordered the food for here but it came wrapped in disposable foil & paper. 10/10 reccomend this place tho.
This place has that homemade taste of a lovingly prepared burrito. You can get it smothered, with breakfast potatoes or with their extra spicy Death Sauce. Each one is made to order fresh and can be ordered by small, medium or large size. Large is always enough for me!
On vacation, and needed tacos. Hey Juan was the closest, and Im glad of it. Shredded beef tacos were huge, delicious, and had green and purple cabbage! And I asked for HOT salsa, and the green stuff will melt your face. Hahaha. If youre in Arcata, stop by. Very friendly as well!!
We stopped here after long day of hiking and traveling to get some food for dinner. The place was playing a good electronic swing music and have some local art and magazines. Staff very friendly. Fish tacos highly recommended, on the other hand burritos were uninspiring.
Hey Juans is one of the staples in Arcata. It has been around forever. If you want to know where the long-time locals go for lunch, this is one of the places. Ive been going here for 30 years and have never had a bad meal. Unless you are lucky and get one of the few tables, just expect to get your food to go.
Great fun place for a very good americanized burrito or basic mexican food. I would give 5 stars as its awesome but wait time is a little high my last visit as the girl gave my meat to some friend that came in and remade mine making me late instead of making him wait like i was.

2022-03-19I mean what can you say, if you want a bomb burrito this is the place! I can’t answer for all of them but I can for those looking for vegan/plant based options. The vegan burritos are legit! Added jalapeños and verde sauce it really hit the spot. It is take out only at this time but as long as the food is great that’s all that matters. They have drinks to go as well! Lots of vegan, vegetarian and regular options for all!

2021-08-10Amazing food and wonderful vegan and vegetarian options. Lots of people ordered ahead and got their food quicker, which might be worth doing. Definitely recommend this place for a yummy and healthy place to eat! Staff was also very friendly.

2021-06-18The food was really good - got a burrito, some nachos and enchiladas. But it took a really long time, I had even called in the order 30 mins before I arrives and still waited for 30 mins to get the food. People even came up and ordered and walked away with their food before I did, which was confusing. Overall, good experience if you aren’t in a rush. But don’t expect a quick lunch turnaround

2022-04-22Almost never get nachos from American food place but was told that theyre good here. Got the Vegi Nachos with the works and hot damn was it good!!! Gonna be coming back here more often for sure! Also - the staff working last night were super friendly and all of them deserve a raise!

2021-05-22This is my 3rd time going after a friend has worked there half a decade ago. New owners now but the super nacho vegetarian burrito was pretty good. I remember it being better before but my friend ordered for me and got the world so next time Ill hopefully do better at ordering. They have vegan and vegetarian specific options and are pretty affordable for a rich beach college town. They even let me use their restroom altho I dont know if that was different then usual during the heavy pandemic. Good place to find in Arcata!

2022-05-28Fish tacos with dairy sauce are my favorite here. Get them. If you like spicy, they’ve got some good stuff, just ask.

2021-05-16Let me tell ya the story of the Arcata institution called Hey Juan Burrito. Now Juan was a good hearted guy but he had a serious addiction.....he loved to climb mountains! One day Juan was sitting on top of a mountain in tibet and he said to himself...man this climbing is great but it is getting expensive, maybe I should open a Burrito place in northtown close to the college where people can get alot of food for a good price. SO HE DID! Back in the day I would walk in there and once in a while between his mountaineering trips Juan would be kicking back and having a beer and I would say Hey Juan! 👋 He always displayed pictures of the mountains he had climbed on the walls and if ya bought him a beer he would spin ya a good tale. The place has changed hands a couple time since then but the premise is the same good food and good beers at a good price.

2022-01-22If youre from out of town, dont try this place. My fiancee is vegan and she didnt even like the food. Its bland, overpriced and there arent a lot of options to choose from. Even the chips are store-bought, how sad. Its all marked up because of their vegan options and its close to the college. Theres better spots to choose from at a fair price. I think chipotle might even be better lol. Zero stars if I could. Dont waste your money or trust these other reviews.
