Dont come to this restaurant when your super hungry or want food to come to you within an hour. They will either forget you exist or over an hour later realize they didnt put in your order. After waiting an hour and a half with two hungry children, the server said our food was ready we waited 20 more minutes and left. Walked across the street and ate within 10 minutes at barrel burger. When I told the server we were leaving (women with long brown pony tail) she rolled her eyes. Not family friendly and not friendly period. Never again.
Every other Sunday My family and I decide to try a new restaurant. It is normally a group that includes grandma, grandkids over the age of 13 and older children (just to give a visual) Today May 16, 2021 at approximately 11am I along with my family went into this place. Lets start with the food 5 of us ordered chilaquiles yulk egg was not fully cooked the sauce was bitter and rice was not good at all. The mole was not good at all and the service was just SAD! The bus boy and waiter were rude at no point did the say excuse me when reaching in to place plates, we were a large group and all of us had water and an additional drink except for one person. I asked the waiter for straws and he came back with 4 then I reminded him again and he came back with 3 straws. I asked again for the 3rd time and he literally brought a cup full of straws to our table and placed it with an attitude. All I can see was eyes rolling. I asked for my plate to please be removed and not once did the waiter not bus boy ask ( how was the food) my plate was almost untouched. It would of been nice to be a knowledge as far as is there anything else I can get you? Can I asked why did you along with 3 other people did not eat your food. Clearly the conversation was being avoided. I am not proud to say that because of this experience my tipping was not great but it was not deserved. NEVER IN MY LIFE WILL I COME TO THIS PLACE AGAIN. Decorations was nice
Fantastic atmosphere eating outside under their umbrella canopy, listening to nice spanish music. Modestly priced for the amount of food you get! The Carne Asada Quesadilla and the Spinach Enchilada that we ordered were amazing - and there was so much we had to get to-go boxes. The wait staff were extremely kind and the hostess was super welcoming. Id highly encourage anyone wanting Mexican food to consider Garcias - I know that well be coming back next time were in the mood for Mexican food.
Food was amazing! I ordered a chimichanga and it was delicious! The chips and salsa served before the entree was very good too! Prices were a little high than I felt they should be, but the portions were large too. Kids meals are big and almost $8 per plate, and very delicious.
Good Mexican food but perhaps not quite as good as I expected for the price. While I enjoyed the Combinacione de Oaxana, I thought it was only average in taste. The restaurant deco is really great and service is friendly and efficient (at least when I went around 8pm).
At first it seemed ok. Hostess was super sweet and set us promptly. Food and drinks were ordered and came out in a decent amount of time. Once food arrived, waiter never came back to offer drink refills. Food was not seasoned well at all. The 1 star was for the salsa which was half way decent. Not a go to Mexican restaurant in SoCal
Wow! Authentic Mexican food made by chefs from Oaxaca, Mexico. Best restaurant experience in Carlsbad. Their wet chicken burrito is just shredded chicken, no filler such as rice or beans. The Garcia’s House Margarita was strong (meaning not watered down like other restaurants). Prices were good considering the large quantity and great quality. DAVID our waiter was awesome. Can’t wait to go back.
Menudo was delish! Came here on a chilly Sunday night and was a bit skeptical about the menudo because Im used to great homemade stuff. I was pleasantly surprised. Ordered the small portion and it was full of tripe and hominy. They serve it with 2 corn tortillas and a side plate with cilantro, onion oregano and limes. It totally hit the spot. A definite must try.
Cadillac Margarita is great. Top shelf Patron Silver, fresh ingredients and wonderful flavor.Good chips and salsa to start but I found the salsa a bit too spicy.Burrito Camerones was fantastic. Plenty of medium size shrimp and very flavorful.Good and attentive service.
Enjoying lovely Carlsbad. While taking a nice walk through town we discovered this gem. Prices were reasonable (for Carlsbad) and the ambiance was totally friendly and family. We ate indoors there were two families eating there having fun and laughing. Service was quick and we got our drinks and chips immediately. Salsa was tasty and spicy. They offered a second salsa totally different recipe also amazing. Food was brought out reasonably fast. Both of our meals were served on very hot plates. Beans were fantastic, rice was good. The meals themselves were excellent will seasoned with spices and vegetables. Quiet and unhurried. The staff was very friendly. My wife and I had a great meal and great conversation. Portions were large and we took some leftovers home. All in all a great meal and experience. Tasted like home cooking and the atmosphere was inviting. 5 stars.
The BEST authentic Mexican Restaurant in all the area and beyond Everything is delicious, we have been eating here for years. Just as good as the five star restaurants in Cancun, Playa De Carmen, Aculplco, Vera Cruz, Puerto Vallarta, etc. Yes I have traveled throughout all of Mexico and eaten fine dining everywhere within but would choose Garcias over them all. Love the Repasado Cazadores Margarita and my favorite meal is the Tello with a chicken flauta and cheese enchilada. Their Tortilla soup is amazing!!!! My kids love it too and is their absolute favorite restaurant. I could go on and on with praise. So happy I can dine at a fantastic place to eat, with delicious authentic food, great atmosphere and amazing staff. Thank you for the absolutely amazing meal and experience every time we are able.I highly recommend Garcias and yes I have actually eaten at every Mexican restaurant in a fifty mile radius of Carlsbad but after discovering Garcias it is the only place we go now because authentic is truly the only option.
AMAZING SERVICE!!! Me and a friend came in 20 minutes before closing and asked if they still wanted to serve us. They said yes and got us the food out in less than 5 minutes. It was hot and fresh! Super delicious and overall great service. It was so fast, we were still out of there before they closed!
This place was interesting. It came recommend by a local as we passed through on our way to San Diego so gave it a try. Menu looked appetizing, customer service was friendly, prices were reasonable. The food however was ok. Ordered tacos but the whole thing was too salty. My sister ordered sopes but the tortillas were soggy, and falling apart. Gave it *** because overall experience was ok.
Hubby had the spinach enchiladas and they were fantastic!!! Rice and beans were tasty and authentic, always a sign of a good Mexican restaurant. I had the albondogas and now wish I had opted for the bowl instead of the cup. Excellent frozen strawberry margarita as well. Highly recommend this place.
This is a terrible restaurant. The only good service was from the bus boy. We never had an official server and just got passed around between 3 different servers who were all terrible. Aside from the horrid service the food was the worst Mexican I have ever had in my life. I could’ve made a better meal with Walmart ingredients. Our food was cold, the tortillas tasted like garbage store bought junk and it was 50 dollars to feed 2 people. This place does not deserve the rating it has it is a one star restaurant.
Excellent, family owned restaurant for authentic Mexican food in the heart of Carlsbad Village. Sidewalk table service with decorative lighting and outdoor shrubs, with limited indoor seating during pandemic. Great specialties include chicken molé and all standard Mexican fare. Full bar. Popular local restaurant. Recommended!
I am out of the area decided to stop by to get quick food. We order tacos and there was a gross hair in our food! We called restaurant same night was put on hold no one spoke with us. I called again today and Jose answered the phone claiming he’s the GM (didn’t know how to speak professionally nor knew how to handle issue). I stated the situation and every time I would gave him a response to a question he would reply with “oh my god, now I have to go look!” As a general manager you’d expect a whole different way of handling issues that they caused. He took my card info and said you got credit for 1 taco. When I explained to him we didn’t eat our food because of contamination and we were disgusted he said, “you only found 1 hair in 1 taco that’s all you get credit for.“ He also said “1 hair is fine, we are clean place.” What the hell?!He was saying I should’ve looked through the rest of my order to find more hairs but because I only found 1 hair I only get credit for 1 taco. This isn’t a scavenger hunt.He said “times are tough, we can’t reimburse you your order.” What does that have to do with me? If they were sanitary there wouldn’t have to be ANY reimbursements. He also proceeded to say everyone is bald. This is a very childish remark that I know for a fact isn’t true. There’s females there as well and my server had lots of hair.I asked for owners name and said I’m going to have to write a review because how poorly he’s handling the situation and he said, “that’s fine, we’ve been here for years and we’re doing good.” Yet before he said times were tough. This guy has poor communication skills, poor people skills, poor management skills, and has a lousy personality.OSHA should pay a visit and his owner should have a retraining implemented for him. This wasn’t a big or hard issue. It’s the way he handled everything even from speaking to me.I won’t be returning to this establishment. Also as a Hispanic I give authenticity of food 0/10. Cheap quality, oily, dry, bland, gross, unsanitary.
Great place to eat especially if you like Mexican food. Our server was AJ and what a very pleasant person. He was prompt in seating us and very personable. We were here during the farmer’s market in December. Have been here several times before and will come back every time we visit Oceanside or Carlsbad.
Wow. In one word. The food was great. The salsa was fresh and the chips were homemade. This place had exceptional food and I love the fact it is family owned and operated. The owner was in the restaurant doing the books at one of the tables while we ate and the atmosphere was great. I truly hope this business continues to flourish as they have great food and service.
This place has terrible service. We waited long to be seated and then waited for almost 40 min for a simple guacamole and spinach enchiladas!! The waitress, hostess or the manager were not that great with their services. They served cold food and blackish guacamole(when it stays out long and color changes due to oxidation). The soup was good. We sent the whole dish back after just taking 2 bites from it and they were simply unconcerned about the whole thing!! The manager was rude and arrogant. They tried to charge us for enchiladas and then later we left by paying just for soup. Its a shame 😔. The only good thing about this place is its location and two bussers/servers, one new and another an old one who really took care of us and provided services to their best capability hence the one star for them. No star for food, waitress or management.
1st time here and it was a very pleasant surprise. Ordered the carne asada w/ flour tortilla. Its was basically a fajita plate. Came with rice and beans & chips and salsa which were all awesome. Perfect amount to split with my wife for a light early lunch. We will definitely be back.
I really like the atmosphere and interior decorating. Its very inviting and brings the diner back in time to old Mexico. The waiting staff was very nice too. They have a very extensive menu and excellent drink selection. I really liked the mango margarita. The food is tasty but not quite authentic Mexican food, which is common in most American restaurant establishments that have a Mexican food menu. We had a great visit.
Walked in at 10am & a gentleman said they were closed, even tho the hours specified they open at 10. I asked how long till they open, the gentleman said he didnt know. So we decided to take a walk around the block, I called 5 min later & the gentleman who answered said they were open. We walked back, & were told they werent open. I dont know what the problem was. Id hate to think it was because were not white. But it did seem that way. I hope Im wrong.
The service was excellent, prompt and friendly. The food was tasty and freshly made. The salsa was just spicy enough. The beef taco had shredded beef, very flavorful. The cheese enchilada had a great sauce. And the dessert! I had the Bunuelo- fried tortilla with ice cream, chocolate drizzle, whipped cream, cinnamon and honey. Yum!
Best Mexican in the Village. We come here often — portions are definitely big enough to split, which makes it pretty cheap. The service is always good. Occasionally they have a guitar player on the patio in the afternoons. It’s a family run business, and I highly recommend it.
Garcias is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Carlsbad, probably number one and if not, then pretty darn close. They have such a wonderful menu with incredible food. Their drinks menu is hands down amazing as well, with a great and convenient location in Carlsbad Village. I would highly recommend dinning here if youre craving some authentic, high quality Mexican food.
As I sit here and wait for the check for my 8.25 taco that was 80% guacamole, I will not be returning. Maybe it’s good for tourists stopping in but at a local I wouldn’t recommend. Long wait to be helped for small portions. My date’s taco was the same. Going on 15 min since they took out plates and no help. I normally don’t leave reviews, but this place def earned a one star. Hope they can rebound.
It was ok. As a vegetarian they are not keeping up with the times. Typical old school Mexican resterarunt in San Diego. There are tons of them. My meat eater friend said the beef was really greasy and not good. Overall its ok at best. Guacamole was good, as were the margaritas and service.
Food was pretty standard Mexican, but the chicken was dry so my tamale was not great. Service was friendly and very fast. We were unhappy about the bill, however, because all three kids meals were charged at a higher price than printed on the kids menus. When we pointed that out, they just said that the menus were old and the prices had changed. I didnt argue, but I think it is pretty obvious that they should have honored the printed price.
If you want some incredibly mediocre mexican food this is the place to go. They charge $8.00 just for a side of guacamole and its not even good. For paying 20 bucks a meal Id expect it to be great and fresh. It was neither. And the service doesnt even make up for it. You have to flag down a waiter to order and we were the only people in there.
DO NOT EAT HERE! Worst customer service EVER! RUDE WAITERS. The waiters argue and roll their eyes at patrons, are very preoccupied with watching the soccer game instead of checking to see if you need anything, and they dont tell you that they dont offer free-refills on coffee. The food is VERY over priced and mediocre. Like Dennys but with Mexican food. Im shocked this place is still in business. Avoid this rip off joint.
Literally the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had in my life. If you can call it that. SOOO overpriced. I’m sure every single item we got was canned/premade. I don’t even know. Just gross. Soggy. Definitely under the heat lamp for like, hours maybe? Service was terrible. Atmosphere was cute but we should have left when we went in and literally no one was inside on a Saturday night. My husband and I both wanted to make a review just to make it clear how much of a rip off it was. Every single bad fast food Mexican food I have ever had is better.
Came here yesterday, and the service was horrible!! The waiter brought us our waters then told us someone else would be out to take our order. 2 couples and a man by himself came later after us, and already was asked for their order. Later, served with their meals. Twenty- five minutes had past and we still didn’t get asked for our order, drinks were never refilled!! I’m very disappointed! Came all the way from Texas for some authentic Mexican food, and that’s the service we received.
Great service and food. Our dogs were aloud with us on patio. That is a huge plus for us. My mom forgot her sweater and when we were walking to the car the host ran after us a ways to give her her sweater. That was so sweet of her. I wish I new her name but this all happened wed. Aug.7th at around 5:30ish. She was very personable and friendly while we were there at resuarant as well.
Google showed me this as something kid friendly, but I dont agree. The atmosphere is. They have kids meals listed on the menu. The options were typical kid food, a cheeseburger, corn dog, chicken nuggets, etc. Shame on me for not checking the prices. The food my wife and I got, (enchiladas suizas and camarones a la diabla) were delicious. Then my bill came. $87 for those adult meals and 4 kids meals! I was shocked! Based on the price of kids meals, I would not call this family friendly.
Authentic! Absolutely amazing food, as traditional as I have found in SoCal. Good sizes, awesome drinks must try the Repasado Cazordes Margherita and the Midori Melon Margherita. Kid friendly! Amazing chips and salsa. Have eaten at hundreds of restaurants from Baja to Yucatan to Vera Cruz just as authentic. LOVE IT! Finally a traditional Hispanic restaurant that reminds me of my families home.
Great food Great atmosphere the margaritas were fantastic and the service was exceptional. Belynn runs an amazing resteraunt she has wonderful people backing her up. Tonights manager Tino is exceptional. I cant say enough about this place. Go try it out you will not regret it
Local here, and I must say this place is full of themselves. The food is good but for the price and portion size it can be easily beat. Its so cramped and loud that the feeling of paying for an over priced undersized meal while sitting on your neighboring tables lap is just a turn off. The decor it self is loathing to the owner, try to add some cultural flair, not just yourself(speaking of the female owner). Try Nortes just west on Carlsbad village dr, the food is excellent at a good price, they have plenty of outdoor seating where you can enjoy an adult beverage. Garcias was a good rep of Carlsbad but its time to go!
Ive never actually been to the Garcias restaurant, but have had their food many, many times through catering. I work in a medical office & whenever we know that it is Garcias that well be having for lunch, everyone is super excited. Their traditional Mexican food (their meat, salsas, guacamole) are authentic & fresh! But, their potato bar might be even better! Chicken, bacon, veggies, freshly grated cheese, & all the other fixins are to die for! Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! I will have to visit the actual establishment soon if I dont get a delivery STAT!
This place doesn’t deserve the rating it has. the service was the worst i have ever had and the food was horrible tourist food. we sat around and never once had waters refilled. the food was brought out on a cold plate and looked like left over scraps. will never go back to this place.
Place had horrible service. Can’t believe the prices either; horrible. $5 for rice and beans? Place wasn’t busy, yet had to wait over 40min for food. Guy didn’t ask us if we wanted drinks, just assumed we were fishes and water was all we needed. Hate to see what happens when this place is busy!!! Won’t be coming here anytime soon and you shouldn’t either.
Garcias provides an excellent assortment of traditional Mexican restaurant fare at reasonable prices. Plate values are a bit high, but the quantity and quality of food match the pricing well. You will be taking home leftovers! The Nachos Famosos are a great appetizer for a big party, or with some added meat an easy dinner for 2 or 3. The Chile Relleno is one of the best items on the menu, and the in house salsa is excellent. Never had any problems splitting one of their large fajita plates with the wife, either.Garcias has changed dramatically from the little hole in the wall that it used to be, but has brought that small restaurants excellent food and family feel with it as it has grown.
Sub-tourist food. Theres nothing here that resembles Mexican food. The beef for the tacos is straight out of the can, the beans didnt resemble anything from Mexico. I also had a beef and bean tostada, it was bland. No amount of salsa helped me eat it. I left more than half my food behind. The rice was good. We werent served our drinks until our food was served and I asked for them, the server was too busy texting outside. Dont go!!!
In Carlsbad to buy Alkaline spring water and felt that getting something to eat before drive back to OC. Saw Garcias mexican restaurant on state street. Ordered burrito chile verde. Salsa and chips came complimentary. The salsa had pronounced garlic flavor compared to other typical salsa. Good. the burrito was wet style with a bit of shredded lettuce. The pork chunks could been been more tender. Slight porky taste which is not my preferrence. But not on every piece. A bit watery filling with more acidity with green chile sauce. $13.00 DOLLARS FOR A BURRITO..sure its dinner prices but a bit pricey. Then again , i am in a trendy street in Carlsbad. Wish there was a hole in a wall mexican place with good solid food. WILL NEED TO LOOK NEXT TIME.
Very disappointed. We are in SoCal and you would think Mexican restaurants would have to be very good to survive, but this is not the case here. The food was extremely mediocre, as was the service. There are dozens of places to try in North County before I would go back here.
WOW! Absolutely the worst Mexican food I have ever tried. I have eaten Mexican food from Santa Cruz to L.A. to San Diego and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (15 trips) and NOTHING came close to this horrible food. Even a Mexican restaurant in my college town in the Catskill foothills in New York was good. This place is not! I can cook better than this travesty called Garcias. Where others came up with the glowing reviews is beyond me except the possible explanation that they are from Mars! I asked for my check asap and got the hell outta there. Stay away!
This is honestly the worst food I have ever had. We ordered the nachos and carnitas burrito. The meat on the nachos was old and bland, the chips were stale and the cheese was hard and not fully melted. The burrito, if you could even call it that, had salsa on top which it didnt say in the menu. the carnitas were also old and just chopped into junks. It had no rice or beans, just tomato junks, some onions and cilantro.and the service was deplorable. There wasnt many people yet they were rushing around. they never asked if we needed anything and they gave us the wrong refills. i had to go up to ask for boxes and the check.$35 for the worst mexican food ever. You would have better luck eating at Taco Bell than this place.
Authentic mexican food....owners are very cool...and catering is as promised.. would be five stars if they made their own tortillas....my first choice for off the charts mexican food is about 25 miles south in old town at old town mexican cafe.......but you might not want to drive that far....
First of all, never got seated. Horrible customer service! Greeter said it would be just a minute to clean a table, and we took a seat to wait. There were clean tables we could see. Two servers were standing there chatting and ignoring us forever. No one was actually doing anything with the tables. We finally just left! Do not recomend.

2022-04-15Walked in as a party of 7 this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised that they could seat us so quickly. We sat by the front window and had friendly and attentive service. Everyones food was delicious and the drinks were good too. Its a cute little spot that likely gets passed up for some of the other options on the main drag.

2021-06-21Great food and friendly staff. The food and drinks came out quickly. Highly recommend the spicy margarita, theres a nice contrast of cucumber and jalapeno in the drink, with a tajin rim.

2021-09-07We waited a long time to order and get our food, while a table that arrived 10-minutes after we did was served first. Our waiter disappeared half way into our meal and never came back.
