Foundation is a great place for cocktails. They make the classics right and offer some cool original creations. Youll find the Im-peach-mint tasty and refreshing no matter your political beliefs 🙂 But if you want anything beyond burgers or pasta, dinner may be disappointing. Their risotto, for example, is made with regular long-grain rice, not the Arbolio rice any Italian chef would recommend. Conveniently located for the Golden 1 center, but if you want and upscale dinner, or just a good beer, before the concert or game, the other downtown establishments may be a better choice.
This place has an awesome happy hour menu for food. I got their foundation burger and it was full sized and surprisingly thick! We also go mussels and they were great as well and usually, at least to us, mussels are hit or miss at other restaurants. My wife got the artichoke and she loved it but we both were kinda let down by the fish tacos. The mixed drinks were not bad either. Overall I will definitely be visiting foundation again.
Food is good, service is good but could be better. Dining at an off peak time, but beverages still ran dry.Braised beef shortrib stroganoff is wonderful, but a little less creamy than you might expect. It also contains a lot of tasty fresh mushrooms.Spicy fried green beans are spicy in the same way as your typical Buffalo wings. They get quite repetitive quickly and are not adequately balanced by the watery ranch dressing. Probably nice to share among 4 or more, but too much for 1 or 2.
Great for lunch in that they have happy hour menu. Between three of us we ordered fish tacos, burger and French dip. We all very much enjoyed the food, with the onion rings being fantastic, but French fries were just so so. One issues may be parking, but there is a garage across the street, otherwise there are meters along the front and side, but they may be taken up or restricted based on events. Ill be returning for dinner to see how the main dishes are, and I have a feeling they will be quite good. I recommend this spot.
Came for lunch and did family style. Ordered small plates: Korean beef skewer and fried calamari and large plates: braised short beef rib and meatloaf. Waiters were attentive and dishes were flavorful. The calamari pieces that didnt get floured were a little chewey and I wish the mashed potatoes that came with short rib was thicker. Highly recommend braised beef short rib. So worth the calories!
Delicious food with friendly and fast service. We enjoyed the environment. I had the house salad with their Italian dressing which was some of the most tastiest dressing I’ve ever had. The fish tacos had a lot of fresh ingredients and the fries and onion rings were fried to perfection. However, if you are going to go you NEED to have the donut holes for dessert. I will be craving them for a long time to come!
We been here a few times, the food is always AMAZING!. Matt makes the best lemon drops, a must try. The fried green beans, DELICIOUS! Arrive just a few minutes before 8 because the kitchen closes at 8. However, this spot is a must try but arrive in time before the kitchen closes, even if sitting at the bar.
The food at this establishment was really fantastic. If youre going there on a weekend, or when theres an event downtown, be sure to make a reservation. The photo is of the short rib stroganoff, New York steak, and the caramelized onion flatbread. All of them were really good.
Service was really slow even though there was only 2 tables in the restaurant. There was a lot of small bugs by the windows, but luckily didnt get on our food. Food was good not great. My fiance got a glass of wine and I got an old fashioned, I didnt think you could mess up drinks but I was wrong. I am a bartender and my fiance is a server so we know the industry. Old fashioned was horrible and the wine she got was in a dirty glass not outside dirty but dirty on the inside. We wiped the glass off thinking it was fingerprints then realized it was sticky clear residue on the inside of the glass. It wasnt just the rim it went all the way down the glass into the wine and the wine stuck to it. Yuck!!! We still tipped $20 on $65 because we are in the industry but it was not earned. The best part was the food and that I can get anywhere. Disappointed 😞.
Delightful find on the edge of Downtown next to Macys and DoCo. Menu not overly deep, but every dish at our table of 5 was great, Salmon was perfect, risotto was delish, wine pours were better than slim, our waitress was on top of it with good recommendations. Worth returning!
This site is my favorite site. Of all restaurants I know I favor it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to that place. Whenever I want to go to a delicious dinner, this restaurant comes first to my mind. splendid and diverse food and a large menu.courteous team, and agreeable vibes. Also important, the price is modest. I praise this restaurant with great pleasure.
A friend took me here tonight and I left extremely satisfied. What a lovely place! Our waiter was attentive and polite. The food was delicious. The wine was perfect. And I specifically liked the environment. This place is fast becoming one of my favorites in Sacramento and I would highly recommend it!
One of my favorite places to have happy hour or even dinner at..The vibe here is chill and casual and just relaxing. I love coming here even by myself to have some happy hour. I like going outside to sit in the sun during spring time and enjoy some nice cold drinks..During happy hour one of my favorites is the happy hour hamburger. It comes with just hamburger the way you want it cooked. The medium is great and not well done or too pink. Comes with a nice lettuce tomato onions and mayo and 1000 island I think..Beef skewers is great and tasty. Its one of my favorites. The skewers is high recommended during happy hour..Another favorite is the fried green beans which is crispy and fried and comes with dip. Such a fun finger food..I love their flat breads as well. One of the ones I tried was the bbq chicken flat bread has this sweet bbq sauce. And extra cheesy and crisp flat bread..Overall drinks I love their sangria. The well drinks I like gin and tonic or the vodka sprite. Cheers to fun and happy times here. Thanks for reading 📚 😀
This place is legendary! Some of the best people I have ever met worked there and some still do. If you like the romance of a place where people remember you, this is the place. Times are a bit tough right now for us all and if you have the means and can, please support the restaurants around you. They are the ones that make culture in your neighborhood. Dont just support Foundation, support the people in your restaurant city. We need you, we need all of you. We are not just your servers, cooks, chefs or managers we are your neighbors and your family. Love your family!! Cheers! You know who wrote this.
Probably the beast meal of my life.I had their special for the day which consisted of pan seared sea bass over asparagus and Yukon gold potatoes. It was perfect and fresh, indulgent and still healthy.Followed with their apple crisp a la mode(treat yo self). Atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, the pricing was fair for the amount and quality of food. I will be back absolutely!
I really enjoyed Foundation. They advertise Farm to Fork and they deliver. This was a company visit, so I didnt take pictures this time, but I will on my next foray. The food was fresh and delicious. As I looked around the table I didnt see anything I wouldnt have enjoyed. The server was excellent. He knew what was in season and made recommendations based on what ingredients were most fresh. The seating is comfortable and the atmosphere pleasant. Ill go again.
I sent my friends to this place with my warmest recommendations. I visit this restaurant often. I get very good feedback from my friends. The dishes they serve are flavorable and the team is very friendly and cooperative. always when we visit this place we have a splendid evening. I warmly recommend this restaurant.
2/15/2020@830pm (from receipt)Too much to type...might as well have the owners call me before I put everyone on blast including the manager even though she did try to put water on a fire that was escalated by server Emily D....but in all fairness, the food was good except for wrong/forgotten drinks and re-fried garlic fries with some behavioral issues with staff except for the manager. There’s more...but like I said too much to type. Avoid unless you like cold food, tricks with the bill and people that seem happier if you never walked in...
I cant say enough good things about Foundo. The owners/ staff are amazing, for starters. The food is second to none, and the drinks are well poured. There is a generous amount of seating around the bar, and a far greater amount of table seating. Televisions line the wall above the bar with an array of viewing selections and a willingness to change the channel at the customers request. The music selection is always great. It catches the evening sun, but theyve got shades for that. Theyve worked hard to provide an amazing ambiance for their clientele, and theyve hit it perfectly. Thanks for always providing an amazing experience, guys.
Had business dinner with out of town guests. Seated at the corner table so our group can talk. Ambience was a bit noisy. Drinks and service were excellent. Had fries for appetizer and it was so good. Entree portions were huge. Could not possibly eat another bite to make room for dessert.
This is one of the best tasting restaurants Ive been to you in a long time. Great people as well. However I would suggest the tomato salad be more than just croutons. and have more basil . It was good though. The chicken and tomatoe empenada was delish. Just need to be a little bigger. Over all, I would recommend!!!
Had dinner reservations for New Years Eve with visiting family. We were sat with a street view and were able to see the amazing fireworks display taking place on the river. All of our meals were delicious and we shared a bottle of reasonably priced wine that was quite good. I definitely recommend this place for a nice dinner!
Great setting and the food was good. Salmon a little dry but everything else was pretty good. Good drink menu as well. Proximity to the new stadium is the draw here now. So, it could be packed on any given day that you were not aware so maybe check the stadium schedule before you plan a night here.
We ducked into here before a concert based on positive reviews. We passed other crowded franchise restaurants that we’ve already been to. Just around the corner was the Foundation. We got in quick, had a drink, appetizer and dinner. The salmon BLT was delicious. My husband’s bleu burger was huge. Great food at a good price. Bypass the “row,” and go here instead.
This was the 4th Street Grill, It was good then, its better now. If you are willing to spend a little more for lunch and want a nice place to have a chat and eat some good food, somewhere just a little of the main streets, this is the place. The Servers are top notch and they wont steer you wrong on food selections. Plus, they have a nice bar.
Great spot in convenient location. Not sure about parking because Foundation was a 7 minute walk from our hotel...but I noticed public garages and some street parking. Great bar, good service and a varied menu...hardest part was narrowing g things down because almost everything looked great. Had braised short rib and it was fantastic. The perfect winter meal...meat was done exactly as it should have been with a rich but not overwhelming sauce on top of the beef carrots and potatoes. Only complaint was the homemade chips...not good enough to be worth the price/effort. We will be back for sure!
Hubby and I pooped in here for small plates and drinks. My god it was packed! Kings season opener and a sold out Crocker event we were headed to really packed the place. The hostess found us a booth in the bar area immediately (impressive!). We were greeted by Tony who was very busy with a young crowd of shot drinkers, but you would never have known how demanding they were of his attention because he was so efficient! We were quite pleased with the service and the food is top notch.
Smaller than expected. Waiter came around every so often to check up. Saw the server assistant more. Great tasting food, especially the pound cake with fresh strawberries. Crusted chicken with angel hair pasta was cooked to perfection along with the short ribs. Artichoke was good too. Wine selection not the best but charge a reasonable $13 corkage fee if you bring your own bottle in.
The food and drinks are good. However, please read on if you want to know the real deal. keep in mind that this restaurants not offer happy hour on Golden 1 Center evenings. That is a sad to service to customers. Even the customers that go in and pay full price at 5 will be greeted with orange cones and flashing police lights at every corner. If you or your loved ones have migraine issues dont go here at all, because the management does nothing to cover up the windows of all the flashing lights. I guess I could say to their credit, most people dont seem to care because if you go there on an event night its quite crowded up until the start of the event. I guess all those patrons wanted a close walk to the center and dont care about flashing police lights in their eyes and reflecting off of all their beverage glasses, and all the mirrors, and all the jewels that happen to be in the restaurant.
We loved this place. very cozy and classy. expect to spend a bit more here and you wont be dissapointed. great food, great service. they did a great job with our party of nine. i had the daily special: halibut, zucchini and tiny potatoes with a buttery herb and caper sauce (which was more butter than it was a sauce). i loved it. a bit more pricey than other menu items, but worth it. dont expect to have leftovers of this particular dish if youre hungry. hubby had braised short rib stroganoff. he loved his and had a little leftover. he was also very happy about the beer selection. this place was quieter than most too. no odors. wheelchair / scooter / walker accessible.
This place is located on the corner of 4th and L Street. They have a really friendly atmosphere and the bar is separate from the tables. It is handicap friendly. I joined some friends for Dine in Sacramento. The food is outstanding. I chose the spicy green beans, braised short ribs and the chocolate brownie pie. I was not disappointed. I even took home a doggie bag. Try the brussel sprouts with bacon.
Foundation was an excellent dining experience all around. Host and wait-staff were top-tier, attentive but never intrusive, and one and all were friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. The from-scratch nature of the seasonal menu meant that some minor ingredient substitutions due to food sensitivities were not a problem at all. The fish taco, chicken flat bread appetizers were great, and the artichoke was good but daunting to figure out how to eat (it was...quartered? After being roasted? Then crusted with aged Romano or parm? Whatever, it tasted good, just was hard to attack from any obvious angle). It had been godawful hot all day, so for mains we went light with some full salads and burgers, and the portions were great and the flavors outstanding. Non-alcoholic beverages and dinner for four all came in under a bill fifty, and that was with a hefty tip. All this made me wish that the exterior were more signature in look so when I recommend it people will say Oh yeah, Ive seen their sign and know right where that is instead of having to explain and draw a map, as its entrance mostly looks like an ATM vestibule in a non-descript Capitol Mall office building. But whatever: 5 stars!
Solid restaurant. We went for happy hour. Their grilled artichoke was on point. Their burger was surprisingly think. Mussels are usually hit and miss but these mussels were a hit. Their fish tacos were bland and disappointing. But their drinks and food met or exceeded expectations.
This place had a great vibe and delicious food. The grilled artichokes were amazing. My friend and I ordered/shared the short rib beef stroganoff and a french dip. The stroganoff was amazing, great flavor, wide egg noodles and just enough sauce, but not drowning in cream. French dip was a little dry, so we switched it out for a bacon burger. The burger was awesome - medium rare, juicy and full of flavor! Bacon was cooked well, not soggy, crispy but not overcooked. They had quick service, great cocktails and everyone was super nice. Only complaint was that they close earlier then we expected, something like 10 or 11pm. Guess we should have checked the hours.
We ordered from the large plates section. It tasted ok but I was done with my plate in less than 3 minutes. My wifes plate was bland pasta with 5 prawns exactly. She ended up not finishing it despite being hungry. We ended up going to another place to eat.And thats for almost 50$.The only reason its not a single star is because the service was nice.
If I could give zero stars I would. We went here after a Cirque du Soleil show, to celebrate my marathon victory from earlier in the day. We were seated right away and the restaurant was mostly empty. We ordered two starters and two entrees. Our server brought out all four plates at once, saying that the kitchen was starting to get busy. So our overcooked and already lukewarm entrees sat on the table while we munched our appetizers which were quickly thrown together and poorly presented. The food was mediocre at best and the service was horrible. The table next to us got up and left after not being visited for 20 minutes or more. In the end we felt robbed of our celebration and paid $40 for the terrible appetizers. One of the worst dining experiences weve ever had.

2021-11-24This was a great spot for a weeknight dinner! The food was absolutely delicious. Our server was super friendly and did a terrific job of keeping our rambunctious crew fed and watered all night long. We accidentally stayed past closing and nobody complained at all. Next time were in town, Ill definitely be a repeat customer!

2021-11-14Very relaxed, casual bar and restaurant with a pretty typical bar menu and great prices! The atmosphere of this place is somewhat lacking for a restaurant, but nice for a bar, if that makes sense. We arent big drinkers so I cant speak for the drinks, but the service was good and so was the food. I recommend the spicy green beans! My impossibly handsome fiance ordered the steak and we were amazed by the size of it, especially considering the price. We had a nice time here and would probably be more excited to return if we were bigger drinkers.

2022-02-03The only reason Im not giving a 5 star review is because it took a while for our food to come out. Foundation is located close to Golden 1 Arena and there was a Kings game that night so a backed up kitchen is understandable. The bar, however, was moving fine. My Lemon Drop and Lychee Drop arrived at the table timely and were delicious. The food was well worth the wait. My party and I started with the short ribs and onion rings and had the salmon and prawn risotto for the entrée. Everything was fresh, hot and superb. Ill definitely be back.

2021-12-31Our first time visit and I called them about parking situation, reservation is suggested or not etc. Cameron quickly picked up my phone and answered all my questions in friendly manner. We felt very welcomed.Arrived, greeted nicely, and served much faster than we expected by Cameron. (It was Thurs around 1pm BTW.)My ex-airforce son had a stroganoff; he got defeated. Generous portion and quality food. My husband had a classic burger, my daughter had a margarita flatbread, and I had a bam mi sandwich.Based on my experience I should go back to Foundation restaurant for cocktails and dessert. Lemon drop and apple crisp were to die for. Goldilocks!!! They were no too sweet, j-u-s-t right!!! If you are super hungry, go for stroganoff! We will sure go back and also already told bunch of friends to go Foundation.

2022-04-19Monday evening, not busy, but well staffed. Friendly greeting right as we walked through the doors. Drinks were made well, I really enjoyed the Berry Drop. Food was good, I had the impossible burger and my brother had the fettuccine, definitely recommend . Savanna, our server was great! She made sure we had what we needed and wanted.

2022-04-10Excellent service, very friendly. Food was excellent. Our table had the swordfish, salmon, prawns, brazed tenderloins and cowgirl burger. We were all very happy with our food!
