Excellent place., just to many homeless people outside the store
Gets a little crazy busy sometimes, great selection of seafood, poultry, and meats
I had a very unpleasant experience during my last visit. The cashier (“head cashier as I was told”) treated me very poorly. I asked for 200 cash back during my Transaction and she very rudely denied me the cash back after I had been charged and had me waiting for a 1/2 hour never to resolve the issue so I finally found a manager on my own. Her name was Mayra GShe was making it seem like I was the issue when from the beginning she was the one who gave an attitude and mumbling words under her breath and got upset when I told her that wasn’t necessary to be doing that. She made the issue bigger than it was when all she could have done was reached out to a manager to get the money or simply refunded me.
This place has wrong prices on products...and dont respect the prices posted. Manager Braulio lacks customer service skills.....please fix your product prices and respect customers. I waited in line 20 minutes carrying 12 giant mangos thinking they were 3 for 99 cents.... Because that was the only price posted above the mangos. When I get to pay at the cash register,...Im informed of another price...thats just wrong ....bad customer service rating for this store.
Make sure to grab a shopping cart in the parking lot, I dont think they collect carts often cause of staffing. Good prices overall.
One is able to purchase with Mexican pesos. But unfortunately all they ask is are sure you want this? Instead of this question they should make a statement that paying with foreign currency is a final purchase. It should also be posted with the exchange rate. Lesson learned. Make money exchange at a local bank or San Ysidro money exchange kiosks.
Well: 1- always have to go there late 10:00 pm or later if you wanna go in and out otherwise long lines at the registers and there’s only 3 or less open2- understock on the first day of a week specials did not find the product that they had advertised3 - they don’t even try anymore

Updated June 2021:I rotate between different Food 4 Less because each location can be differently, mainly with fish and meat. Chula Vista location doesnt have a fish section, only frozen. Go to Mission Valley or Clairemont for seafood.This place has gotten better, one of the busier ones, especially during peak times.Previous review:5 registers open, 4 of the 5 are express lanes for 15 items or less. Line is long, been waiting here forever. What kind of business are you running here? Worst food 4 less Ive been to this far. Avoid if possible.
To the CEO Rodney McMullen. Hopefully you do listen. I had the worst experience at the food4less of Chula Vista California. They had one line and there was one employee directing customers to tbe register available. I was waiting in line for more than half an hour for 4 items only... I dont really mind writing but when there is families with kids or elderly making the long wait line... and when I get to the registers there were people just going to the register without waiting like the rest and employees not doing anything about it. I told the cashier that there was people not making the line and that is not fair and he said there was no such thing of one line. I tomd him that tbere is someone telling us to make one line and he repeated againthat there is no su h thing. I requested to speak to the manager and he did nit answer. Then there was another employee that came next to tbat cashier and asked that person to call the manager for me and he pointed at the cashier that he was the manager. It was on 09/29/2020 @ 7:38 pm . I then loon at the manager and told him again about the situation and that theres people waiting for more than half an hour, including elderly people and with kids and still didnt do anything about it. I requested to speak to the managers manager and they told me he was the only one. I requested the district managers number because he was very rude and did not care about any of my concerns. He told me to call the number on the receipt. The worse experience everthat I will ko longer go back there or recommend to any one in my family. I did the survey on the receipt. Hopefully they do something about the bad customer service at the store on Palomar shopping center in chula vista California.
Ive shopped here many times the past few years and have never been unhappy with the food selection. The people who work there are always nice and helpful. I recommend this place.
This store is desperately in need of self checkouts! But for the most part youll find everything you really need. The proximity to the border is what makes it crowded but the security at the entrance modifies foot traffic. Arriving there early is key!
The prices of most of your items in the store are pretty good and nice. Theyre the BOMBDIGGITY ! As a matter of fact, about 95% or more of all your food and beverages, and some of your non food items are pretty good as well. Without a doubt. Good job Food 4 Less. Keep on doing what youre doing. Bring the prices down even lower than what you have. For all of the employees,seasonal, temporary, or permanent, and the troops(Armed Forces- Active Duty, Reservists, and the Veterans and their families),there should definitely be some discounts going down. That means the people that I just named should have discounts when they come in the store. If they work there, it shouldnt matter what or which Food 4 Less store that they go to. They just need to prove that theyre who they say they are. If theyre an employee, then they have to prove it. If theyve served in the Military, or are still serving in the Military, then they need to prove it. Point blank! Theres no ifs,ands,or buts about it. The Discounts for the employees should be at least 25% to 35% or a little more. For the troops, it should be at least 40% to 50% or more. If they work in Food 4 Less and they have served in the Military, then it should be even more, or at least double the Discounts.

Low prices, quality grocery market
What an awful place. To many people and to get in is approximately 20 minutes to get in and an additional 30 minutes to pay. Its just a bad place to go. Parking is an other problem. Drive up a few miles for better service.
Pretty amazing staff that does everything quickly, you basically do not wait much in the morning, day and night.However, just like every other store, it becomes rather difficult to shop once it is in the evening (around 4 pm and later).Also the snacks @ the Asian food part of the store are pretty good and underrated, i.e. the chips and the coffee candy.
On Friday June 5th at 8pm I went to the store and I saw the Ultra Beer Can at 16.99 USD and when I went to the cashier it was 19.99 USD. When spoke to the Manager BRAULIO he said he will not changed the price. He had a very closed actitude and very boosy. Disapointed his lack of customer service. They need to improve that.BRAULIO really needs managerial trainning.
Located in a plaza so lots of parking (though busy).Store is a good size but everything is crammed together.Cashiers were quick.Produce was REALLY good quality.Annoying shopping experience but worth it for the prices.

Just as the name states..food for less.They carry basic brands, dont look for anything high end (London broil) they dont carry higher end items. The store is clean, employees are friendly and they have an Awesome Produce Department. I shop here often
Bad experience today. Among other things I bought a tuna sandwich and didnt check expiration date. It had a Nov 18 date, but the taste was bad. I attempted to exchange it, but the cashier didnt want to take care of me and told me to go to the express check out, but there were more people there.I had to leave without a good sandwich.The manager didnt help either.
I like shopping here, but today they left a lot of customers outside waiting in the morning IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC. They usually open at 6am but I arrived at almost 7pm and left at 725 and it still was closed. No notices, signs or anything outside. Totally unacceptable.
This used to be a decent store, but after the pandemic it became unbearable. I will go take any other Food 4 Less store in the area, but never this one again. It has a much different and less inviting feel than any other store.
This store can get pretty crazy, but for the selection and the price Im willing to sacrifice. The best time to shop here is late at night or super early in the morning. For the best selection of produce...I would say late night. Around midnight or there about. There is a downside to this F4L location.....sometimes people approach you in the parking lot asking for money or some of the food you just bought. Its annoying.
Food is at great prices, bathroom is gross, very crowded ( the prices bring in many customers) proximity to Palomar trolley station might be another reason for high clientele. Super close to the I-5 freeway. Some shady people loiter around the building sometimes. Great variety of food products, will most likely have everything you are looking for, except chia seeds for some weird reason.
There are too many people from trolley. Also, there are homeless problem. They are abusing the restrooms and shoplifting foods. However, the price of foods are great. Your chance to get less people, if you are at store at right time.
This whole area just seems to be really ghetto. What to expect when theres a welfare office just across the street. No dis to anybody whos on welfare, just saying... The ghettoness turns up to full Throttle during the night like after 10 p.m. when I say ghetto Im talking about the employees. Dont believe me? Come here after 10 and see for yourself.Other than that the selection and prices seem to be good
Chaos with too many shoppers. Not enough employees. Shopping carts have to be brought in by the customers and there was packaged meat left on some random spots. I left out of frustration and didnt finish shopping. Will choose other locations in the future.
I love to make shopping on the Food 4 Less but the last time that I went it was missing something that I buy and I was looking for ever in my house and my car and the worst part that I dont let nothing on the store for the things I see but the only thing that I could think why is missing discuss the cashier she keep it thats the only reason is right to think Taz I pick up all my stop and I remember I see it was clear that I dont let my stuff in the store.So from now on I have to count all the stuff before I get the out of the store to tell the cashier how about that its missing something that I paid

Very bad , no customer service, the employees faces are expresing negetiveness, its like if they dont like the customers precense. The last time i shoped there was 1 month ago ($140.00) dollars and the cashier was very rude to me for no reason at all. I believe there must be some changes in the way they treat custumers, i really wish this whit all my heart.
Very convenient. Not just the prices. The location. Its the best place to go near the border. That is, if youre willing to go on a trolley ride. It is the first thing you see when you cross Tijuana, Mexico. And when you get off from your relaxed ride to get there. Its also the first thing you see at the sto0. So you wont have to stress from driving to and from the border. Enjoy with benefits.
This store has fresh produce along with some organic choices at good price,easy parking,multiple specials employees are nice whit knowledge of what they sale.Day time make sure you got time to wait at the register.this store close late at night but thats the time use to restock got ready to find delivery pallets along your way.

I live in the county of Los Angeles, and googled, the nearest food 4 less next to Tijuana Mexico, saw ^^the reviews and I was expecting the worst because of the reviews.....but happy to review that I left satisfied.... This one goes out to the butcher lady, who was so nice to me with a $200+ order of meat, Daniella, who so nicely checked me out with 3 carts of food, and for GRAND MASTER P Enrique who helped me bag all the groceries, me take them to my truck, and unload them THANK YOU....you guys are the greatest...p.s. everyone I spoke to was bilingual, it is a boarder town, so people are going to speak in Spanish...sincerelyFrances
Youre only here because it was the closest store and you forgot an item for that Pinterest recipe youve been dying to try. The produce isnt always fresh and the store doesnt carry a lot of items youd normally use. I went to buy avocados the other day and they might as well have been fossilized dinosaur eggs because they were ALL hard as rocks. Was I in the Cretaceous aisle?This branch needs some improvements, but its always there when you need it. It has Coinstar and Redbox machines, which is always nice. Be warned though, theres a sea of grocery carts stuck all around the store serving as some kind of protection. Ever since they made carts freeze after a certain point, its been hell trying to move around them.Also, not sure if Food 4 Less should be responsible for the people selling discounted food items a few feet away from the store. Theyre driving business away with extremely suspicious food at extremely suspicious prices. What if theres a recall on Captain Crunch? Will these individuals help you out? Doubtful. My point is, its decreasing Food 4 Less reputation even lower.Just some Food 4 Though.
They show no respect to their customers. I bought a can of chips for my baby from walmart and took it to food 4 less wen i went there. The cashier asked me if the chips is from their store i said no i got it from Walmart she says did the guard see u coming in with it i said idk. So she tells wait she has to confirm with the guard if hes seen me coming in with it. then i could leave. I had my babies with me and i had to wait there until they said its ok to leave apparently the guard did see me coming in with it. Meanwhile im standing there while my baby is crying . I felt really embarrassed all those eyes staring at me they treated me like a thief. Like are u serious. Its the second time they have done something like that. But i still go there thinking that nothing weird would happen. Its the closest to my house since i have three kids its more convenient for me. I just hope they start showing some respect caz no one wants to go shopping where they treat u like a criminal.
Good location next to public transportation, you can get off the train and go shopping, then get back on the train and go home. The store is busy timing matters.
By far, the worst and most ghetto food 4 less, the restrooms are disgusting! Theres 3 stalls, the handicap one had no toilet paper and the door was broken, the 2nd had no toilet paper and no toilet seat, and the 3rd was missing the trash can and all 3 had broken toilet paper holders. To add insult to injury, there was no soap and 1 sink was broken, so you couldnt even wash off the filth. Disgusting! Seriously needs a deep cleaning and restocking.
Cashier Cesar N. Wouldnt hand me my 8 bags as requested several times before my card went thru. He basically was calling me broke. I dont appreciate the bad customer service.
I was shopping for St Pattys Day dinner here yesterday. Be very careful when you shop here because they are terrible at rotating products out. I found a bunch of expired products during my trip. Needless to say I opted to not pick up select items because of this...gross! 👎👎👎👎
I was There last week, I had my 5 Yeats old daughter with me, she Need to use the restroom very bad,... was closed... I ask at the front desk and the guy who was in charge toll me to go the Starbucks place, around the corner... I have to left the shopping cart with all the staff, to go out to look for the restroom...
So thiis grocery is my store for many reasons. Its near by from where i live it and its some what cheaper than other grocery nearby. But it is also sometimes diffcult to find parking and also to get a cart because either some employees are talking and chit chatting in the back or there is noone outside to pick them up. But it does have in the AFTERNOON have fresh produce because I guess thats the time they take it out. Mostly its okay to shop at.

Im not sure if this place deserves 2 or 3 stars because some days i dislike it because of how many people there are, some days this store is really unorganized and the staff are rude unlike the one in national city which is way less busy than this one. if you go in the morning this place usually isnt packed and you can go grocery shopping without having to deal with the lines being so huge.
Seniors & disabled shop at 630.they open at 7am...you can get 1 limit of items per household...this location had alot of meat...come early

2021-08-318/31/21 Not only they didn’t have carts, 2 staff members told me I had to walk into the parking lot to find one! They were friendly when saying it but really? And check out this line! It’s a mess and chaotic! Not staff to direct people. I actually helped the line I was in to get it organized. WTH FFL? Then again, they just might not have enough workers… review will change once I see this place flows better

2020-09-26Very busy location due to proximity to border and trolley station. Parking ample but usually full. Very good selection of vegetables, fruit not so much. Availability of bulk items similar to club stores. Big beer and wine selection, not so much on specialized wines or craft beer. Good prices on beer when its available.

2022-01-07Checkout was painless at 5pm. The meat and produce flanks the store and looks abundant. Its what is in between that leaves much to be desired. Lots of blank spaces or only 1 brand of rice w/ 2 sizes, no dry kidney beans, barren tea shelves are some examples. Its a discount store, but the prices are not that low to me.
