Ella is amazing. The decor and ambience was wonderful. But the highlight of our night for my wifes birthday was the Incredible undescribable customer service we received. From the host to the bartender to our amazing wait staff, it was such a great intimate dining experience. Although the room was packed, the amount of impeccable service we received was wonderful. My wife loved the special drink she received for her birthday from the bartender. Amazing amazing. Thank you Ella staff.
K st downtown Sac unfortunately lacks luster. Both due to the pandemic and the homeless. However, ELLAS resturant IN itself is Beautiful. Hats off to Chef. I had the Salmon over creamed corn. It was delish. I just wished there was a bit more. The portions were small.I had to seat at bar because they were booked but that was absolutely ok. The downer were the drinks. My Martini was mediocre. The wine on the menú that i asked for was not available.; so I asked the bartender to suggest something to pair with my dish. It was below mediocre. The worst part: the bartenders and barback all had to crawl under the bar table to get into the bar ; where they serve the customers. The laytex gloves my bartender was wearing did not get replaced after the crawl. A bit disgusting. Such an elegant n expensive restaurant with such poor hygiene. I almost gave this place two star for it.
Nice atmosphere and super friendly staff. Their service is really top in downtown sacramento. I had steak tataki which is raw meat. It is very fresh and comes with egg yolk like Korean famous market style. We have hog island oysters and picked 3kinds of oysters. All of them have a lot of flavor. I got lobster with corn tiramisu cheese side and my hubby got salmon and fries. As you can see the picture the salmon sauce is the same gravy as I ordered for my side(cron tiramisu cheese). Cocktails are good and the server’s recommended white wine made our dinner perfect. They also keep your wine cool and pour it right away whenever your glasses empty. Pricy restaurant but with the service and atmosphere it’s worthy to try.
Hard to find a classic downtown treasure such as this establishment. The menu is seasonal and freshly conceived, always a treat to peruse. Cocktail’s? Much more…whiskey flights, beautifully crafted libations to please any whim. Wine list of epic proportions…you’ll discover a vintage to savor, and compliment your meal. Your meal? Ah yes…you cannot go wrong in any direction, so feel free to close your eyes and spin the wheel.Without hesitation, my wife and I will return…soon.
I had one night only to have a fine dining dinner experience in Sacramento, and after not being able to snag a table at The Kitchen, I was able to make a reservation at Ella. It really exceeded all expectations.Despite having only reopened recently, you really couldnt tell. The service was thoughtful and polished. The only thing was that from where we were sitting you could hear the staff exchange notes, but we dont mind that sort of thing. Not one dish was a disappointment. We ordered the recommended bone marrow, which isnt typically my thing, but it is now my standard for how it should be served. It came with grilled sourdough and a salad that cut the fat with the acid, which truly made it a memorable, well-rounded dish. The salmon and steak both were cooked perfectly to temperature and very tender. Every dish was beautifully plated and each bite was a delight.
Our server was great, that’s the only reason for 3 stars and not 1. This place is just whatever and way overpriced for what you get. I don’t mind paying for great food, that’s totally ok. But food here was far away from great. Appetisers were good, but $85 rack of lamb was just whatever and didn’t taste all that good. I ate half and was done with it. One person in our party had a chicken (which ended up being just a fried chicken) and sent it back cause it was just way too dry and it was just like a fried chicken you get from a fast food place. So entrées were a total disappointment and it wasn’t worth $600 between 4 people at all.
My brother, a Sacramento local, is a food and wine blogger. So when Im in town, his recommendations are 100% legit. Ella Dining Room and Bar was no exception!+ Amazing ambiance, great staff.+ Outdoor patio seating available, lots of space for dining!+ Very clean and the ladies room was absolutely gorgeous.+ Happy hour food selection was amazing.+ Reservations highly recommended. If I had to give some improvements needed:- Price point for food and beverage selection is not the lowest, but it was worth it!Happily Hungry in Heels adds:Three to four inch heels for a ladies night out, or cute wedge sandals would also work for Sunday brunch. Heading out after work for some drinks? High heel pumps absolutely appropriate!Date of Visit: October, 2018
Me and my family went to this place to celebrate my dads b day week. When we arrived, the atmosphere was good and the waiters treated us nicely. It basically seemed good at the start. So my dad and my mom ordered the chicken and I ordered the ahi fish. My dish was good and so was my moms dish, but my dad felt kinda off with his dish but he didn’t really think it thru. When we got done, we went home and around 4am my dad started to throw up a lot. He basically got food poisoning from what he ate and literally the next day was his b day so I felt hella bad taking him there. So we’re never coming back here again.
Had a lovely dinner at Ella Dining Room. This establishment is definitely on the pricey side, but the service is impeccable and the atmosphere is lovely. There are only about 7 entrees on the dinner menu, a few salads (3), and a half-dozen appetizers... best value for dollar was definitely the Bone Marrow appetizer ($16) and the Prime New York Strip entree ($49). There are slightly lesser expensive apps and entrees but these two were ample servings, and great in taste and value.I ordered the Scallops entree (3 Large scallops on a bed of Mascarpone cream corn, $42)... small portion but Delicious. The Fried Chicken is the least expensive entree ($25) ... beautiful big portion, but does not come with any sides. On the evening we visited, the AQ price for the two Lobster entrees was $65 each... 1.5 lbs Chilled Whole Maine Lobster was tasty and presented beautifully, but I leave it to the reader to decide the value for dollar. Great place for a very special occasion.
My boyfriend and I went out for an early Valentines Day dinner to Ella and I am so glad we made that decision! We ordered the Shrimp cocktail and Bone Marrow for appetizers and it was delicious! Afterwards we had the Tomahawk steak with the golden potatoes and we barely finished it. Everything was so delicious and the staff was superb. Its best to make reservations right away! Theres parking across the street at the Hyatt or theres Valet. All in all it was such a great experience and a wonderful evening! Definitely recommend for a night out and good eats.
We dont visit often but when we do it is usually for a special occasion. Ellas has always been 5 star. Pull up to the valet and the experience begins. Greeted by the hostess, seated and our waiter was there in seconds. We ordered plates to split and our waiter suggested the order in which to bring them out. We agreed and the feast was on. We dont drink alcohol but Ella has a mocktail menu so ordered a couple of fruit juice sparkling macktails. All in all every darn thing was superb.Enjoy!
What a wonderful dining experience! Staff was very attentive and friendly. Food was fantastic! It was loud in the restaurant because it was so packed, but it was still great atmosphere. We sat in the window overlooking K Street and people watched. Ella is a wonderful restaurant! Cant wait to go back!
Nice atmosphere. I dressed down, so when i ordered their most expensive glass of wine (65 dollars), they kind of looked at me like maybe I didnt belong there...🙄...But the food was great, and once they determined that I knew what I was doing... the service ended up being almost apologetically good as well. 🤣🤣
Ellas was very good. The service was great. The atmosphere fits the concept perfectly. Now on to the food. I had beef tongue as an appetizer and it was the best thing I ate all evening. The spiciness was a nice contrast to the acidity of the dressing on the arugula. The tongue itself was beautifully tender with an almost melt-in-your mouth feel, the egg was cooked exactly how I like it with the texture matching the tenderness of the tongue, and the red onions brought together the flavors and textures of the proteins and vegetables by serving as a halfway point. My moms smoked trout tartine had a pleasant texture with a nice balance of crunchy, chewy, tender, and creamy. She couldnt stop raving about the dressing on the veggies that topped the tartine. My sisters steak tartare was refreshing. It had well-rounded flavor and was made all the more smooth and delicious by the egg yolk on top. The wild mushroom soup was fantastic. As was the artichoke soup. The flavors were hearty and the consistency was nicely creamy. The small amount of minced vegetables and hamhock in the center added variety to the textures in the dish and augmented the dishs flavors nicely. Main courses were a slight let-down. My moms salmon was swimming in a liquid that was just too acidic. The acid went together well with the ricotta ravioli. Fish typically goes well with acid, but in this case, there was too much acidic liquid on the plate. Less acid and some reduction may have helped here. My sisters ribeye was good. It wasnt particularly special, but it was a good, simple dish. Cooked right and seasoned well. My filet was good, the sauce was delicious, and the potatoes and mushrooms were a nice match with the filet, though they could have used a bit more seasoning. Overall, however, the experience and food were great.
Absolutely the best setting for a nice dinner for two, I had the seared scallops which were the best Ive had, and my wife had the twenty-four hour braised beef short rib which was more than enough - some of it came home for later. We started with the wood fired artichoke which was the best, and then little gem lettuce and marinated beets. Servings were perfect, in fact everything was cooked and served to perfection. Definitely an amazing dining experience
This restaurant is fantastic!! Delicious food beautifully plated. The menu changes constantly and has given me more than one of the best dishes of my life. (Sturgeon once and pork chop on this visit). They also have great cocktails and a large, if pricey, wine list. The ambiance is classy and warm. Staff is okay-service is slow when busy. Also I ordered a bottle of wine and it was poured for my husband to give approval. It seemed archaic to have the man taste it, not the person who ordered. Overall I love this place and will continue to go on nice occassions.
The food, atmosphere, staff - everything is phenomenal. I can’t recommend this place highly enough for a special dinner out! While nothing in the menu is specifically listed as gluten free, many dishes were naturally gluten free or we were able to modify it to be served gluten free.
Food wasnt that bad. Not like it use to be. But it was good enough. Server was a piece of work. So me and my friend we sit down. She offered us 3 types of water. Tap, sparkling, and bottle. Didnt tell us we had to pay for water. We get a glass of the bottle water. Then we get the bill it was $9 for water. After we ask her about it she act like its common knowledge that water is$9. Then when we ask to keep the bottle that was over half full, cause we paid for it. She gives us the bottle with no lids. She wasnt the best at taking orders. Couldnt explainwhat she was saying. I assume it was her first day. But at least the cooks were OK.
Probably the best dining experience in Sacramento. They’ll modify anything you need, great drinks, quick service. Menu is classic American: oysters, chicken, fish, pasta, shellfish, or steak. But everything is done with unique ingredients and flavors. 100% worth trying.
This restaurant has nice atmosphere but my partys experience was lacking greatly. The appetizer portions were not enough to even warrant a tasting by everyone. There were 4 women in our party. We ordered the bone marrow which was beautifully presented, but came with a ton of toast points and not enough marrow for everyone to have 1 serving. A survey of my guests revealed they would not return. Their meals were as dull as the service. I didnt order an entree as they were out of both entrees that interested me. At the end of the night we instructed our server on how we wanted the bill divided. With me paying for all appetizers. She came back having split the check evenly between us. Her excuse was that the credit card company (VISA gift card) would not allow her to charge the entire amount that was on the card. When I got back to my car I called the VISA card company to ask why. They told me there was never a decline. There was only one pre-authorization request. This really makes me upset, so I wont be coming back for both reasons. The bill was over 500.00 the food was not great and the servicer lied to us. I wanted to treat my friends to appetizers and even though the food wasnt the best, I should have been able to pay for it the way I wanted to. Not what was easiest for her.
Always a great meal here. We enjoyed several small plates including the octopus and bone marrow...must haves! Then the scallops with Ellas take on chowder, a falt iron steak and a whole lobster, chilled. The highlight of dessert was the pineapple upside down cake. Can also recommend the Elderflower gimlet. As usual...impeccable service. A place to relax and enjoy special occasions.
Best salmon salad I’ve ever had on a quick lunch. The salmon was so warm and crispy and the lettuce/veggies were so fresh. Pomegranates gave a nice finishing touch!Toffee sticky pudding with crack ice cream - this will have me dreaming. Genuinely makes me wish I had a separate stomach for dessert.Very friendly and fast service. Upscale vibes and quiet but sophisticated. Clean and well kept. Would highly recommend!
3 stars. Nice ambiance although aged window shutters all over walls and ceiling was a terrible decorative choice completely clashing with other themes in restaurant. Food was decent overall. Bone narrow nice take on it with micro green mixture. Carpaccio was not true carpaccio as it was just aged high end ham and not really raw. A few scattered pieces in the dish and the balsamic overwhelmed the delicate taste of the luxury meat. Looked like something I could put together. Very unoriginal and definitely not worthy of a high end restaurant (see pic, this is a $15 dish :/). The oysters were straightforward. The beef tartare stole the show, fantastic flavor, bread was perfect varietal and texture. For main entrees, pork flavors were pretty disjointed. Smoke flavoring overwhelmed much of the delicate dish. Pork cut was perfect but accompaniments in dish didnt pair well. The scallops were a bit better but the creamed corn was way to large of a portion and the scallops were swimming in it, drowning most of the scallop seafood flavor. The caramel cake dessert was superb but sadly main entrees not up to par for level of restaurant.Service was OK, water ran out quite a bit.I know fine dining coming from living in downtown Seattle for a decade. Ill try other restaurants in area before coming back for the prices they want to charge. Hawks Granite Bay is slightly better for price. Even Localis right down the street is FAR better and the head chef is incredibly nice. Much better value there than Ella.Downtown Sacramento really needs to step up its game... no wonder the Michelin Guide snubbed it so badly.
Fantastic Food, Impeccable Service. My wife and I celebrated another Anniversary here. Both dressed in all black, the Hostess swapped out the white linens with black so we didnt have lint issues. Lobster Claws were sooooo good. Pork was super tender. Corn was amazing. Bread with Truffles... So good. Carpaccio with fruit, kind of mind blowing. Champagne, Gin and Tonics. Will forever come back.
Bartender definitely took care of us. Took our food and drink order promptly, provided awesome conversation and knowledge concerning their liquor options, and provided a sample of their quinoa vodka. The only minor hiccup was a long wait for our food due to a ticket mixup, which was remedied quickly and, as an apology, our drinks were compd. We will be dining here again!
One of the best fine dinning restaurants in Sacramento. Very attentive hospitality staff. Delicious Steak tartare on Garlic Popovers and Pain Perdu where fantastic! White Linens are a must as arguably the bar the cocktail was made in. You are paying for what you are getting and you will not be disappointment and that or the atmosphere. Cheers!
My family loved this place pre-pandemic, and now that we have went back post-pandemic we can say we love is post-pandemic too. In our post-pandemic visit the service was very attentive, knowledgeable and informative, while the food (we felt) was better than it had ever been before. Glad to have Ella back!
Came out to celebrate my mothers birthday... Food was delicious and nutritious! However one thing that chopped few stars off the review was the service provided! We did have quite a few people there but not too many. Lets just say its not exactly comfortable to demand more when the current needs and wants were not accommodated! Overall, food alone doesnt earn all the credit! The atmosphere and service play a big roll! Try the food but also expect outstanding service! The plan was to impress my mother but she just wanted our presence and good food. Presence, atmosphere, and food could of been done at home but the service is the best aspect of a restaurant which wasnt met to a level of satisfaction.
I came here for an anniversary dinner and we had a fantastic experience. Started with a cheese board and scotch flight, progressed onto the mains and finished off with pavlova and a lovely dessert wine. Ive read a few comments complaining about the price but I felt like the service and food was worth it (yes, the portions arent large but the quality of the ingredients justified it). Its a lovely space and the staff are wonderful. We enjoyed the occasion and will be coming again.
Ella was a great dinning experience. Top quality service, staff, and food. I highly recommend experiencing all that this restaurant has to offer. I will definitely be back to indulge again at culinary excellence. The oysters are so fresh and the bone marrow was delectable! A upscale dinning experience with a laid back atmosphere that I truly appreciate.
The ambience is regal, the wait staff is phenomenal, professional, and efficient. The appetizers were my favorite, with the steak tartar and caviar being wonderfully tasty. I also had the scallops, they were cooked to perfection. The one caveat I would put, is this restaurant is strong in the way they flavor and dont necessarily let the natural simple flavors shine through, thats simply my preference, the food is still masterfully prepared.
Ive been to Ellas multiple times since 2016, almost every time I visit downtown Sacramento--which is probably only about six or seven times. Either way, I absolutely love everything about it. Im big into farm-to-table, and their menu almost cant be beat. I usually love everything on it and have a hard time choosing. The dishes are always delicious! The wine menu is always excellent, and the servers are funny, smart, kind, and know great hospitality. In 2018 the Friday before Presidents Day weekend, my 2 friends and I had a female server who was probably one of the best Ive ever had and Ive been fine dining my whole adult life from Coast to Coast and in different countries. I just never got around to reviewing until now. Would recommend!
Perhaps one of my favorite places to eat at. Did a birthday dinner this past Friday for my friends birthday. We had a 9pm reservation and had to wait 30 minutes at the bar while waiting for our table. The staff eventually gave us a private room and 3 complimentary appetizers! Wow! We didnt expect that at all! Thank you Ella! Staff and service is bar none.
My name is Cierra Washington and I am the CEO and the founder of The Box Detox which is a holistic approach to vaginal health. I had a celebration at this restaurant celebrating a mile stone in my company The Box Detox which you could find on all social media platforms LOL however all the staff at this restaurant was extremely helpful, very friendly, Fast service and the food was absolutely amazing I would definitely be coming back for more keep up the great work station ELLA BAR
My five star review seems a bit meager, as this is literally a 5 star restaurant. However, it lived up to everything I had been told.Took my fiancee here for a belated birthday dinner with another couple, and every aspect made for an exceptional experience. We all shared three appetizers, and through the evening a couple bottles of wine. We brought our own and paid the corkage fee, as we had been saving them for a special occasion. Other couple split two entrees for a little more variety, my fiancee and I shared the ribeye. Even as a fan of beef, I was blown away by how savory the cut was. Well worth the money.Service was of course stellar, and the decor was an appealingly pleasing combo of rustic and contemporary. My favorite feature was how the clever form and function of the service area.We will be saving for another exquisite dinner here soon.
We spent our Valentines day at Ella, with a fixed menu. We choose the wine pairing option, all courses were innovative and fun. Jamie, our waitress from Georgia has a great sense of humor, and fun distribution of food. We enjoyed that each course was delivered by a different wait staff who explained each dish. They didnt rush out as we finished our included Champagne. Great evening.
The lobster was tasteless dry and over cooked. Service was messy kept making mistakes on food to each person. Not a real sharp staff.Food was undercooked or overcooked it was really tasteless and had no hints of flavors at all. Had to send several plates back.the on site manage was not sutied for running a french restaurant. The one true bright spot was the valets parking. Enough said.10 folks 1600+$$ wasted time and money.I took my company here after reading reviews and talking to staff. 14 folks. Our collective decided very poor i ask those with great reviews to really think about the post.I have been to Paris always had great food.I expected a real experience. Instead i got poor seevice and bad food.
Super cool atmosphere with unique style. Extensive wine list and delishious cocktails. We only tried the small plates, they were very constructed and very yummy. We sat at the bar and the bar tenders were very friendly. Like most fine dining places the plates are small. Its fine dining so expect to pay for it.
Ella dinning room is one of my favorite places for Happy Hour. From their famous house made gin and tonics to creative appetizers and excellent people watching, this place is perfect for unwinding after a long day.I have never had a bad cocktail here. They have excellent bar tenders. As I said and others will agree, they make the best gin and tonics. Their tonic is made in house. I can also highly recommend the Manhattan.Their menu is changing with the seasons. If you decide to have dinner here I would recommend planning in advance. Their open table reservations fill up quickly. Ive never been able to successfully get a table here for dinner via reservations. The only time I dined for dinner was during Dine Sacramento last year. The food was excellent. This is a wonderful date place for an elegant evening or for a special celebration.Ella is a wonderful place and one of my favorites in Sacramento. You cannot go wrong here.
I honestly dont get what all the hype is about. The place is super expensive, and the bartender that served us acted like she was doing us a favor for gracing us with her service. She was pretentious and acted like she was annoyed that we were even there. I actually didnt say anything, but my 70 year old mother, who was sitting next to me, called her out on it. God forbid someone actually orders from the happy hour menu! The oyster platter we ordered had some of the smallest oysters Ive ever seen. I didnt even know they came that small. And give me a break, $45 for three scallops fried in oil on a bed of what my mother thought looked like grass and a tablespoon of mashed potatoes. No thanks. The second star is for allowing you to park while going to a show at the nearby community center, and having a pretty decent happy hour red wine.
Received a recommendation to go to Ellas while I was in town and it did not disappoint. The decor was pleasant and inviting. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful when making menu suggestions. We ended up ordering the tenderloin, house fried Chicken , cauliflower and carrots. Everything was good but the tenderloin was exceptionally tender, and tasteful. Definitely worth a try if youre in town.
Excellent food and even better service. A colleague and I stopped here while in town and experienced a lovely meal on the patio. Meat was prepared at the right temperature (though even a bit too bloody for me at the bone, but thats always tricky). The service really was notably exceptional, showing great care for making it an enjoyable experience.
A large group of friends/family went here for a celebration dinner 3 days ago., while our server was great. The starters were fantastic, although after thinking about it I realized that the menu stated Hog Island oysters, even though they werent. Two (2) members of our party ordered lobster which was over cooked and rubbery, (3) three others ordered steaks which were undercooked, (1) one ordered chicken which was very undercooked and when we voiced the concern over that, the manager stated that the chicken was cooked fully and that it was souvied thats why it was still pink. We responded that it was not cooked, there was still blood coming from it. Myself and my wife will never return and we had eaten here several times in the past and had wonderful food, but now we will never be back. One member of our party have an allergic reaction to the food after informing the staff of the nut allergy. Unacceptable!
We had a late lunch or early dinner at around 3PM on a Thursday. There was plenty of free spots to sit at table tops.We ordered appetizers from the happy hour menu and we were pretty happy with the choices. We shared : 12 oysters, 2 steak tartare, 1 cheese braised and a ceasar salad. Everything was really tasty! Although the happy hour menu offers a smaller range of choice, we managed to get a good amount enough to be full
Not great service. Very nice atmosphere and food was nicely prepared. I specifically made a reservation (for three people) for a late lunch, made mention we were celebrating a special occasion, and asked for a window table or quiet corner. We were placed right next to the bartenders work area and next to a table with a noisy baby. The restaurant was almost empty otherwise! Waited more than 10 minutes to even be greeted by anyone. Service was slow, the wait staff seemed very uninterested in making our experience enjoyable. We had a received a gift card and gave the waiter the (very large) balance of the amount left on the card. I hope they read this and remember us ....and learn from our review. Everyone deserves to be treated with care, even in the middle of a Friday afternoon!
Just finished an amazing meal with some friends while visiting sacramento. The bourbon menu is excellent, and the service was extraordinary. Present but not obtrusive. Noise level was “vibrant” yet we were able to have good conversation across the table. The paella was one of the best I’ve had, perfect portion and the seafood and rice were all steamed to the precise moisture level yet still firm. Top notch all the way around.
Very flavorful and craftfully made food with amazing ingredients. I had lamb with heirloom tomatoes and chick peas. It was really well made with perfectly flavorful char. Also had a tomato and melon salad that was excellent. Beautiful place. I highly recommend for a tremendous farm to fork fine dining experience.
The food was good, but not exceptional, and for the price, I would expect exceptional. The portion sizes were pretty small too. You petty much need to get an appetizer to get a full meal, and even then, you might leave a little hungry. Staff was attentive, but perhaps a bit too attentive. The place can make you feel like you dont belong there. You can have good service that is friendly too (see, the kitchen, zinfandel grille, lemon grass, roxy, etc.). Overall, didnt feel like it was worth what was charged. Would rather go to one of the other places listed.
Vibrant atmosphere. Lobster claws were tender and delicious. Didnt have to pick at shells. Cheese board was okay but felt like something I could assemble on my own.The gin and tonic is their signature drink. The smoothness of the house-made tonic water came through, but the gin flavor did not speak to my tastes.
Ella is just great. We have been going for their gin and tonics and the bone marrow for years. This was the first time our bone marrow wasnt as exciting (but still very good) and everything else was tasty. Their specials revolved around oysters and I absolutely hate them so were lookong forward to the change in menu specials. We recently went to the kitchen and enjoyed an almost $500 meal when wine was included. The kitchen is just amazing, as is Ella. I cant wait to go back to the kitchen to enjoy great food and a fun experience!
The food was spot on delicious, we had the beef tenderloin, the scallops and the half chicken (fried chicken) along with two orders of very deviled eggs and the bacon brussle sprouts.Everything was delicious and worth the pricing, which i did find a bit high at first glance. We were all very pleased and will definitely be back in the future :)However... if i was to find issue, which we all agreed upon, it would be with the lack of attentiveness from the servers. It was very busy for a Monday night, but we had long periods of time where we felt a bit neglected.. i.e. i got a second drink (which took forever) because i asked, but my guest didnt get a second drink primarily because novody checked on them... not cool and a missed opportunity for the barBut, that aside, we loved it 🙄
Very upscale restaurant and bar near the Sacramento Convention Center. We stopped here for happy hour after attending a conference at the Convention Center. If youre looking for a bargain, this isnt it. The prices are high but not unreasonable. The food was quite good with moderate portions for the happy hour hors doeuvres menu. We returned the next day for mid-afternoon dessert. We ordered a variety of desserts and shared tastes with each other. Everything was excellent! I did not see the dinner menu, so I cant comment on that. If youre looking to fill up on a budget, this isnt the place. If you want fine dining in an upscale setting with attentive staff...give Ella a try!
Came for a Lunch tasting to pour a few wines. We came early to our tasting so that we could enjoy lunch. Boy did they deliver. Lunch can be a rather uninspiring meal period when dining out. As it is easy to find repetitive menus more often than not. Ellas lunch menu is not that. It provided a little bit of everything, lighter fare, few fun and very well executed sandwiches and small plates that were perfect for the style of lunch we were looking to have. We sat at the bar as we like to be as close to beverages as possible and the staff was engaging, friendly and knowledgeable about their concept. Well done Ella Team we cannot wait to come back for dinner.
I went to Ellas about a week ago to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. Before even going there I called in advance to make a reservation, and the hostess set the whole mood for everything. Jessica was amazing on the phone and incredibly polite and made me feel like a special customer. When we got there we were seated instantly and brought cocktails. The food came out in a timely manner (faster than expected) and everything was cooked to perfection. Our waiter, Ryan, was attentive without being overbearing and we never had empty glasses of anything. I ordered the breakshire pork chop and my girlfriend ordered the Thai spiced lobster, both dishes were absolutely divine. What really sets Ella apart from other restaurants is the wait staff and management. During our meal Ryan asked if we were celebrating anything and when I told him it was her birthday he wished her a happy birthday. However, when it came time to pay our bill, Ryan informed me that our first course (baked ricotta, highly recommend) was on the house as a simple gesture to wish her a happy birthday. We never asked for it or even hinted at it and still they made us feel like the most important customers there. Will definitely be visiting again in the future. For an excellent experience, dinner for two including cocktails was under $200, well worth that price tag.If you want to impress a girlfriend or boss, have a special dinner or just feel like going somewhere incredibly pleasant, Ella is a no brainer.Thank you to all the staff there!
I had not been to Ellas in a while so I was looking forward to a good meal. On a Monday night it was easy to get a table outside quickly. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about each of the items and when we asked for a recommendation on while he did not just throw out the most expensive wine on the list. He genuinely gave a recommendation and a little history about why he liked it. We shred the arugula and pear salad, peppers (DIVINE... Im craving them as I type) and the pork chop. Everything was wonderful. I have to give Ellas only 4 stars as it took FOREVER to go though each dish. I do love to enjoy my meal and do not appreciate being rushed but this was a little too slow. We got there at 6pm and left at 9... and it was not busy at all! We were starving by the time our main course came out. It was a little frustrating but overall we had a nice time with good food. I wish I had room for desert. NEXT TIME
This is an example of the finest quality dining experience available in the Sacramento area. The location is ideal for an active evening, with plenty of points of interest near by. Parking is of course a concern. One cannot speak highly of service at this restaurant. The staff is ample and attentive making for an effortless enjoyment of your meal.Note, this is a fine restaurant. Everything about this place, down to the setting of the table, offers a certain kind of luxury dining experience. You can expect to see it reflected in the quality of the experience and on the bill.
Ella is one of the classic Sacramento restaurants. Upscale, a touch pretentious, its the type of place you dont want to go to unless you are ready to act like a grown up and dress well. But wow its completely worth it. Great wine selection and cocktail program and the food is spectacular. Always in season and fantastic.
Our Dine Downtown experience was delightful! All the courses were well prepared and presented, & delicious! The entire staff was meticulous & attentive, Nick Doheny was especially outstanding in his service & his knowledge of our wine pairings, based on his rich sommelier background! The ambience, decor, lighting of the dining room are all perfect for any occasion! We shall return soon! 👍👌😋
We celebrated a dear friends birthday which is also new years eve, at Ella and it was amazing. The prix fixe menu did not disappoint with an array or flavors, textures and aromas that were all visually stunning. The service is impeccable and all staff is very attentive and strives to make a memorable experience for their guests. We will definitely be back!
I really love the ambience and food here! I dont know how the waiter got our order wrong! It was awkard when a chef delivered the wrong dishes to my table. I speak great English! Of course, it was corrected and the management paid for our parking and our dessert! We were celebrating a Birthday! We finally got what we ordered and it was Delicious!
Top notch everything. Randall Seland and everyone that works for him from his chefs to dishwashers. .... Aces. The best and freshest ingredients, impeccable service. Now I know what food should taste like, Yum. If your looking for a great experience you should visit one his restaurants. Congrats to The Kitchen which just received their first Michelin Star Award. Bravo!!!
I came here last Saturday night for early dinner reservations at 5:45 pm to impress my new boyfriend for his bday celebration. I specifically asked for a “romantic” spot. Instead, we we placed in a table for two, directly next to two other couples to our right and left. We had zero privacy and the atmosphere was so loud, it was as if we were in a cafeteria! I had to shout at my boyfriend since it was so loud!!! The food was good but the ambience was terrible. For the price to pay at this place, it was not worth returning. I’ve been here a couple of times before with a larger group and it was a bit better. I was here for another occasion, sitting at the bar for happy hour with a girl friend and it was a way better experience. The spot that we were place was far from romantic. And to top it off, the host and server never bothered to wish my boyfriend a simple “happy birthday”. Not a very special event for the amount of money spent. Unfortunately, we will not be returning 😔.
Prepare yourself for a phenomenal dining experience. Professional staff, personal service, and the best cuisine in Sacramento. You cant lose! I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a fine dining experience. Also! A wonderful whiskey and bourbon selection. In fact, the bar & bartenders are masterful. Do yourself a favor, go early and grab a cocktail at their bar.
I dont get to experience fine dining at all, but I do have to say this was one of the best restaurants that I have gone to in a while. It has amazing food! We came for lunch with thr intention of getting a quick bite. We quickly realized the food was amazingly delicious. The cheese tray was delicious and had a great variety. Most of us ordered the burger and none of us were disapointed. We all loved the meal. My colleagues ordered drinks and were also extremely happy with the taste. My favorite part was the desserts! They were DELICOUS! If you decide to stop by dont skip dessert. Overall great experience and would highly recommend this place. Would definitely return if Im in the area.
We dined here after a grueling day in Sac for work. There was no wait on a Monday evening. The weather was perfect for eating outside. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. I loved the cucumber sorbet. That was the first time I have had a sorbet palate cleanser and I wish more restaurants offered one.
Came for anniversary and staff is very friendly. Great experience, loved our waiter who made great recommendations and explained dairy in certain dishes as Im lactose intolerant. Had the ceviche as an appetizer and it was delish. Im used to shrimp ceviche, but the tuna was a great addition. I had the salmon dish and it was amazing! Followed by the carrot cake donuts which were delish (more like a churro than a donut). Partner had the steak and enjoyed it as well, along with the dessert - lavender pavlova which is his new fav dessert! Four stars because the salad I was expecting it to have a lot of lettuce or greens, but had very little everything on it. It was good nevertheless; nice flavor. Beautiful, elegant decor. Menu changes often, so online menu may not be whats being served when you decide to dine.
Ive been to Ella once before and loved it. This time, not so much. We had a 6 p.m. reservation so we could go to the theatre. We arrived about 15 minutes early and it took the hostess about 5 minutes to greet us because the host stand positions the hostesses with their backs to the guest (poor design and unaware hostesses). The dining room itself was empty but they kept us and the other people waiting until the reservation time to seat us. Not warm or friendly hostesses. The server was friendly but did not time the table well at all. He knew we were going to theatre but there were enormous lags in service and attentiveness. We ordered some very expensive (175/btl) and newly placed on the menu, wine. Not one person we asked (and we asked 3) could tell us anything about the wine because they had never tasted it (or been given proper training). That is NOT OK for a restaurant charging these prices (or for any restaurant). Our entrees were finally delivered to the table split (there were 4 ppl in our party) at 735. We wolfed down our entrees so we could leave by 745. We werent able to enjoy coffee or dessert (nor were we offered). The restaurant lost that revenue because I always end a great meal with both. I am in the restaurant industry and know what great service should look like. It completely missed the mark on this visit. 3 stars was because the food was really good. I gave service a 1.5 and food a 4.5 to arrive at my 3 star rating. Super bummed as I was so looking forward to it.
I ate here during my first trip to Sacramento back in December. We went out for a team dinner of 4 people. The food was so fresh and good. I grew envious of everyone elses dishes (mine was excellent, I just wanted ALL of the dishes!!!)It was so good, the next night I came back here by myself and ate at the bar. I NEVER eat at the same place when Im visiting a new city. This place was superb.
Wow! What an experience at Ellas Restaurant it was super clean at there establishment. The Staff was wonderful and very attentive, Lets just say your glass will never be empty along with the Amazing Food and great service . And a BigThank You to the a couple of our Amazing Friends that turned my Wife and I on to a New Restaurant Experience! 😎🖒💗
Service: We reserved the seating for 6pm but reached their early. The waitress was not willing to sit us even though there were so many tables empty. Service was slow.Food- The food was okay. My cioppino was salty. We tried two desserts which were okay. Nothing special.Price - Bit pricey.Restaurant - Nice restaurant but shocked to see they dont have nice utensils. Utensils were worn out. Also, décor are outdated.Overall experience - The bartenders makes good drink and the oysters were good too.
Very nice place to dine with beloved one and not only. I have very much appreciated the warm and calm atmosphere: you can relax, enjoy yor time, have a conversation without the need to shout in order to be heard. The food is amazingly delicious. The service cant be better. Thank you, Ella, for making our evening so incredible. You definitely deserve 5 stars 👍
“Thanksgiving dinner”We celebrated Thanksgiving dinner here. Our reservation was for 6:15 and we were seated after a 10 minute wait. They were very busy. They had a set menu with a set price. Everyone received the same appetizer and salad. There were 4 choices for the main course and 2 choices for dessert. Even though our appetizers and salads were the...
Absolutely outstanding service, food, general ambience, well worth the money. Try the Ribeye if not the best one of the best ever had. Well worth the $65, wife had flat steak outstanding.Desert we had Tres leche and sorbet. Great.Mint tea with honey.Tell you will not be disappointed
Ellas is a nice place and the staff are awesome and food is good. For me I gave it 3 stars for two reasons. Then main reason is how cramped it is for such an expensive place. I had to hear in detail the conversation of a very high pitched group of middle aged ladies because we were a foot away. The 2nd reason is for the prices they charge I felt like it could have been better. Could be me but inprefereed cheesecake factory or similar which has more variety better tasting food at a third of the price. Still Ellas is an experience and not for everyone. Worth it to try it once but I wont be back.
We almost did not eat here but we are very glad we did. Favorite meal in a while. Service was spot on. Beautiful location and dishes. Highly recommend. Our server was really kind and sincere. We were staying at the Hyatt downtown...only a 3 minute walk from there. Going back again ASAP.
Service was terrible! My waiter Stuart was the worst. It was my first time there and my birthday. I am a single dinner. He Got hot to give me utensils for my entre and he forgot my bottle of wine and brought me a glass of something I did not order. I fired him and Brent took over and saved the day. I will never return and wont recommend it.
Its not always easy in Sacramento to find a place to have a glass of wine while waiting for the theatre or just to kill some time. I hate feeling bullied into having a full meal when all I want is a glass of wine and perhaps a snack so my wife and I can chat.Saturday night at about 8:30 we ended up here. bear in mind that this is one of the fanciest restaurants in Sacramento, we were expecting to pay beaucoup de bucks, but decided to treat ourselves because no kids.Welcoming wait staff gave us plenty of seating options, and we chose one of the high long tables in the front corner. It lets you watch the foot traffic going along K St to/from the iMax etc.Once at our table, we were offered still or sparkling water - I had the sparkling (Badoit), which was added to the bill ($6).I had a Margarita which was perfectly acceptable and my wife had a glass of the white Rioja which she enjoyed. We ordered two deserts - she had the lavender and pistachio pavlova and I had the tres deleche (sp?) which was just marvelous. topped with tiny green sprouts which we later found out were cilantro microgreens. Every flavour stood out and was delicious. We hung out there for about and hour and a half chatting. very low noise level which they get 5 stars for. attentive waitress great food nice drinks. Its a little odd watching the light rail cut the corner, a mere feet from the window and some of the unlovely denizens of K St wandered by, including memorably, a transient who walked by scowling with both his middle fingers raised. It was a pretty busy Saturday night, but we did not feel rushed or ignored. The service is excellent! Our bill was a little under $60 - were we better off, I can imagine visiting more frequently, but at any rate, this may be the wine bar we have been looking for!
We needed a quick bite with friends in between sessions at the Convention Centre a block away. Fast, friendly service, refined and complex flavors for traditional fare. The three of us decided to just share tapas style and they were perfectly accommodating. Great cocktails, great mocktails and juices/waters. We sat outside on the South facing patio, that even in November, was still beautifully warm, but their patio has plenty of shade. We started with the artisan cheese board compete with Huckleberry compote, almonds, honeycomb, marinated olives and artisan toast, in addition to the deviled eggs. We then moved on to the grilled Ella hamburger complete with bacon, rotated onion, gruyere, and parsley fries. Phenomenal and rich. We cut the fats with wood fired brussel sprouts with harissa and fetaand coupled then with the butter lettuce salad with tarragon, cucumber, and watermelon radish. We were able to sum up the visit and pay in an hour. Excellent service and atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

Myself, my aunts, mom and grandma went here for dinner last night in celebration for my grandmothers 98th birthday. It is a lovely space. The quality of the dishes were, overall, delicious. Lobster was a little tough, that was the only complaint. The treatment by staff was quality. Detractions: they seated us to a table closest to the front door. It was cold outside and every few minutes a big cold draft hit us when the door opened. When you are 98, that is pretty uncomfortable. The service was quite slow. Where we were seated was the noisest part of the space. It was hard to have a conversation and my grandmother could not be heard at all. She sat quietly for pretty much the entire evening and that made me disappointed because the evening was for her.
Honestly do not see the rave about this place! I was so excited to come here for my birthday and for my boyfriends birthday two weeks ago. From word of mouth I heard this place was great. How I heard about Ellas was through their Instagram account and their so called Farm to Fork ethic. Ok, they had an elegant menu with fine dining yet I was not impressed. We ordered the bone marrow for an apprizer which was as greasy as expected but it seemed to be a little too greasy. Our main courses were duck, and the quail with egg. Did not order a dessert just wine to compliment the duck.Overall I would say 2.5 stars for the food but 1 star for the so called farm to fork produce and unfriendly service. I spent over $100 of hard earned money for about four things yet the service was in-personable and unfriendly. As a customer I felt like I had to engage with the service to get some life out of the poor server but I got no response in return. Unfortunately, we will not be returning nor recommending this restaurant. Au Revoir Ellas, as a suggestion, maybe focus on being honest with your customers about your food and get some friendly servers.By the way, we ended up checking out Dawsons steak house down the street at Hyatt after our experience at Ellas. Spent $100 on a AMAZING dinner 5 stars! We got more food worth our money! We got the steak, scallops and out of this world duck fat fries, two glasses of wine and a dessert! Check out Dawsons if you want to spend your money on good food.
Not as good as the pictures looks. Food tasted horrible... took forever for the steak to come, and when it got there, it was cold and dry... burned on the outside and under cooked on the inside....will never go there again. Not to mention way over priced for something that just looks good in the plate. Save your money and go Olive Garden!!!
Wonderful food and an excellent bus person who saved the night in terms of service. Had to ask server more than once for things; server had too many tables that were not contiguous; slow unattentive service. Thank goodness the food was great...........though even that did not come for all of our party at the same time.
Lobster over cooked, salmon is from New Zealand, steaks under done or over done, chicken under cooked- 90% of the people at the table (which was over 10 at the table) had an issue with the main course. Tasteless, ingredients on menu not in the dish. For the price-go elsewhere.
This past Saturday, 2.5 hours after seating our group of 8 for a farewell gathering for 2 friends, Ellas served cold steak and poached eggs, which when split, had cold yolk spilling into tepid bean broth as part of the Gaucho entree. The same dish for a neighbor came out the same way, creating the conundrum of whether guests should ask for the dishes to be returned, thereby creating a scene, and whether to risk waiting another interminable period for food to be served at a proper temperature. Other guests dishes, such as the scallops, had better execution, being seared and hot. And the appetizers, such as the bone marrow which was buttery and rich and the pupusas which were spicy without overwhelming the flavor, also were created well. However, for the prices charged and the wait involved for the occasion, Ellas forfeits the latitude that might be granted to more casual locations and probably could have used the revenue to employ a heat lamp. Go to Mulvaneys, Localis, or Empress instead.
Couldnt have enjoyed ourselves more. Lovely open restaurant with fantastic interiors - a ceiling of shutters, subtle design elements, gorgeous large format dining options with beautiful lighting and fixtures next to a open demo kitchen. The bar is large and has a multitude of types of seating and bar experiences. The happy hour menu was perfect for a light appetizer prior to dinner. We got a dozen of the best oysters we have had, in recent memory. The Beef Tartare was not completely traditional, but delicious and a fair re-interpretation, while not being too outside the box. They even had the Gerard Bertrand Cremant de Limoux by the glass. I freaking love that Brut Rose. Yum. If back in Sacramento, well definitely head here versus where we had dinner in the Citizen Hotel.
With its inventive farm to table cuisine, Ella is a gem in the Sacramento food scene. Its swanky and the food is top notch but its spendy. During our visit, our entrees took over 30 minutes to arrive, I imagine there was a glitch the kitchen that night, and I assume this is not normally the case. Otherwise, service was top notch.
Personally, the Salmon is the Best Ive ever tasted; super tender and moist...like melting butter. Mixed Baby Salad was excellent and Little Gem as well. Wood fried brussel sprouts were surprising flavorful & Yukon Gold pototoes werent to hard or soft; just right. The grilled Bavette was cooked med rare, but we ask to be cooked alil more & it was cooked to perfection. Customer service was 5 star. Dr. Williams & staff were honored.

2022-05-04Was the food good? Hell yeah! It was awesome. Came here with my family and the food was fenomenal, the waiter suggested the fried chicken and it was one of the best fries Chicken I have tasted in my life. The oysters are a must, and also the tuna. The place was packed even for a Tuesday so easier to call ahead and make reservations. The ambiance was great and the whole place is a beautiful and experience in Sacramento. Highly recommended

2022-05-01Ella Dining was an amazing experience. We came here for our anniversary and the service did not disappoint. Everything was delicious and the bone marrow appetizer surprised us.This restaurant is a great pick for late night and special events. The table space was a little small for us, it was hard to have everything on the table(appetizer and main course). That is my only feedback

2021-10-31This place deserves 6 stars, I honestly cannot believe how amazing the food and service were here (thank you so much Jolene and staff!). We had an unforgettable experience, if you have the money and time, I cant recommend Ellas enough.First came the bread with truffle butter ( just as good as it sounds) then we ordered the sweetbreads and beet salad for appetizers. The sweetbreads were light and delicate, the beet salad was an adventure on your palate with beautiful flavors and textures in each bite. For entrees I ordered the lamb and my impossibly handsome and funny fiance ordered the flat iron steak. Both were flavorful and cooked perfectly, Im not sure which I enjoyed more, honestly. For dessert we enjoyed the famous Ella bar and seasonal pumpkin cheesecake... I was so excited I forgot to take pictures, but they were artistically presented and tasted even better than they looked. A truly amazing experience from beginning to end.Ella became an instant favorite after only one meal, I will definitely be bugging my fiance to go back soon!

2022-03-27It was my 34th anniversary. March 15th. I made reservations for my wife and myself to dine at Ellas, and to see Shin Yun.We entered near the bar area and decided to go to the bar and wait for our table to be seated for dinner. My wife ordered the house old-fashioned and I had a grapefruit Collins. The place had a nice crowd and a very Lively and festive atmosphere. All of our servers were good-looking and very attentive. Everything was wonderful and elegant. Right down to the menu with happy 34th anniversary Sylvia engraved at the top of it. We ordered steak tartare the mushroom soup the pepperdelle pasta , delicata squash and the filet. All of the food was cooked to perfection my steak was a perfect rare just the way I ordered it with just the right amount of char and seasoning. The vegetables were excellent and outstanding.. The serving sizes were very adequate so we were both able to share and enjoy everything together. They even gave us a complimentary deconstructed smores for dessert. Very great service very classy place and very good prices. Will definitely be come back. Ive been telling everyone that I know about this restaurant. If you havent tried it out you really should. They really made the start of my anniversary a very special and great

2021-10-02From the stunning architecture and interior design of the building, I was really excited to experience the food and service at Ella Dining Room and Bar - needless to say, I was not disappointed!!!There’s no question why this is a Michelin Star restaurant… And I’m already thinking about the food I’ll order on my next visit. With cocktails and a menu that has something for everyone, my highlights from the lunch menu were the CHICKEN LIVER MOUSSE, HOG ISLAND OYSTERS ON HALF SHELL, the PAN ROASTED KING SALMON & the GRILLED ELLA BURGER!!!Every bite, sip, crunch and smell was amazing!!! And the experience was topped off with great quality service from a very attentive waiter.

2021-10-23Enjoyed our dinner at Ella last night. I like there menu and variety. Just enough options for a vegetarian. The atmosphere and decors is nice but the tables re very crowded. Fortunately we had a private room where eight of us dined. Started with a selection of oysters which were fresh and delicious. Had lobster and bruschetta with mushrooms for the appetizer. Loved the bruschetta and the lobster was a nice size served with sewn butter. We also had a pan of warm brioche bread that was soft and warm and heavenly. For my min course I had the pappardelle with wild mushroom ragout. It was good but over salted. As were the side of fingerling potatoes. For dessert we sampled the apple crisp (the apples were not cooked enough for my liking), the hazelnut crunch which was very good and pineapple upside down cake which was my favorite. The service was excellent . I would give 4 1/2 stars if that were possible, the over salting of two dishes really brought my review down a half star.

2021-12-19Very nice decor and great service, however the foods are left a lot to be desired considering the prices. Tenderloin and lamb rack are 👌. Tomahawk was disappointed. Beef tartare was decent.

2022-04-23I have been to Ella multiple times and have never been disappointed. I always opt for their special of the day and they always deliver in terms of taste. The service is always incredible too. If you can, leave room for dessert because you do not want to miss out on that!

2021-10-24Great food! Knowledgeable servers who were very attentive. Beautiful restaurant. We had the brussel sprouts and charcuterie for appetizers, with salmon and pepperdelle for the main course.
