You have to make a reservation before hiking here. I picked the 2-5 time slot and it was a good time because it wasnt very crowded at all. Its a beautiful hike. Not too hard; good for all ages and for pets. The falls are amazingly beautiful! Not as big as Bonita Falls (where you dont need a reservation), but still gorgeous! A pool at the bottom of the falls, but it was too chilly to get wet. The scenery on the way to the falls is beautiful. You cross the stream back and forth several times. There was plenty of parking when we went. I wondered if there was another way in without making a reservation but after visiting, you have to go through a gate where they ask to see your ID and reservation #. Youre at the Nature Center and they have bathrooms inside. So the only way is to make a reservation in advance. Well worth it though and Im so glad I checked it out before heading there.
Nice easy but slightly long trail. If you start from the Eaton Canyon Natural Center entrance, you have to walk some dry patch until you reach the stream. So, early morning would be better since sun is bit harsh around this time of the year. Since it is dry season, a lot of stream has dried out, but waterfall is still there. Wet season, around November-February/March will be the best time to go since there are a lot of streams that time and it is really beautiful.
Great trail by the river bed especially now with this wet weather. Nice place to chill in nature. Community park lots of people walking around no worries for wildlife. Just bring extra pants and plenty of traction on your feet. Crossing the river plenty of times so watch your step. Lots of fun though would recommend.
A great place to start a hike. You can just go to the falls, or you can do the STEEP hike up to Henninger Flats, and beyond. (Pictures of both included)Well marked trails and generally well maintained. The trail to the falls involves numerous creek crossings (rock-hopping), but is not strenuous. The hike to Henninger IS strenuous, but straight-forward.
Amazingly fun! A good workout navigating over rocks and some water, culminating in the Eaton Canyon Falls. (2.2 miles each way ) I saw lizards and birds. Consider wearing OFF BUG SPRAY as there are bugs and mosquitoes. Wear something to go into the water with, flip flops, and a towel. Waters chilly but adaptable. Entrance requires a free online reservation during this pandemic.
A beautiful 1 hour trail. Make sure you carry a lot of water. This time there is a lot of water as well. The water super cold and this time over I got to take a dip at the waterfall. There is plenty of parking available. There is provisions for overflow parking as well. Mobile restrooms are provided at the start of the trail. There is not much steep climbs but there are small ones. You might need to cross the water couple of times so make sure you come prepared.
This hike is fun! not too grueling... to the falls and back is 3ish miles. its generally shaded and being by the streams keeps it cool and not too muggy. we started at 8am on a saturday and fortunately snagged a spot in the lot before it quickly filled up. be careful if parking along the stone wall because we saw a car ram into it too fast... puncturing its front tire and damaging its bumper! back to the hike... its definitely crowded, and we maybe encountered 3 groups of people with speakers blaring out of the backpacks. also lots of dogs along the way. overall a fun way to get outdoors and get some exercise while enjoying the scenery!
Eaton Canyon Nature Park is a190-acre zoological, botanical, and geological nature preserve situated at the base of the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains. We went here on a Sunday morning. The hike to the 40-foot Eaton Canyon Waterfalls can be summed up to: 1.1 miles of wide flat, relatively uneventful dirt trail, followed by 0.65 miles of single track up a narrow canyon that is adventurous and fun (forming a 3.5 mile round trip hike with 375 feet of elevation change). Free parking is available. Dogs are welcome in Eaton Canyon Park and on Eaton Canyon Trail to the waterfall. No fee or permit is required. Overall, I enjoyed my time hiking. It is an easy trail so anyone can do it.
This was a beautiful hike, very lush and green. Smells wonderful and fresh. The waterfall is absolutely gorgeous. Do not try to wear cute shoes on this hike as they will get ruined, get some waterproof hiking shoes because they have good grip and you have to cross a stream several times on the way to the waterfall.
Beautiful hike, fairly easy. Dogs are allowed on leash all the way up to the falls, kids wouldnt have too much trouble getting up. Its pretty crowded but theres secluded paths up and down that make you feel like youre alone if yourewilling to get wet or explore. Water shoes are recommended, even if they arent meant for hiking. I doubt anyone that made it to the falls has a dry shoe. I wore hiking watershoes and was comfortable, but the last time I went up I saw someone wear strapped sandals and thought they were better prepared than I was in my running shoes. Parking is free along the residences, the parking is free at the entrance too but it fills up quick.
Absolutely one of my favorite hiking spots in the local area. Everybody is nice trash is relatively nonexistent. And people are just there to enjoy a walk in nature. Its a treat to head out to the Eaton Canyon Falls and also if youre feeling adventurous to take the long walk up towards the Henninger Museum and lower campgrounds. Stunning views up there. Definitely worth the walk up. HINT: if you hit the Henninger campgrounds, save some times and take the walnut trail / coyote trail down back to the Eaton wash.
Hiked up to Eaton Falls from the nature center. The center had restrooms, which was nice for a pregnant lady like me. The hike itself delivered all good things: shade, water streams, lots of trees, wildlife, pathways, a few challenging climbs, friendly people, doggies. Doggie bags are provided at the beginning of the trail too, which I thought was generous. Tip: your feet will get wet crossing streams, don’t try avoiding the water, you’ll slow down others and possibly fall...just be prepared. My only complaint would be the graffiti near the end of the trail to the waterfall. You can crop it out of pictures, but it really doesn’t fit into the scenery and is sad to see.
It was amazingThe view and everything to me it literally smells like homeFirst time hiking in Eaton Canyon and it was pretty fun but it was a long trip but taking the challenge on going thru the water and to feel more of the experience of the wilderness, you should try it, it will make your day.
I havent been here in forever but I got the awesome opportunity to stop in with my daughters and show them something from my childhood. There were live reptiles and many other displays for educational purposes. My daughters had the greatest of times ever. Our adventure was topped of by the Amazing Helen. She took great care of us and was very warm and welcoming. Helen was so great, my daughters went to find her to thank her again for a great time. We will be back and enjoy ourselves over and over again.
Went on the hike to the waterfall. It was a hike with Abuela and my son. It was a bit lengthy and hot but we were prepared. My son hiked it in flip flops so its not that rough or a terrain. It is a long hike but there are some trees for shade. The waterfall was worth the hike and a great refresher from the heat. We started from the Eaton Canyon Center but was informed there is street parking further up that has its own trailhead which cuts your hike by half. Not sure the street but Im sure you can find it on Google maps. Good luck and enjoy the hike.
Awesome hiking spot. The river is flowing well, due to the rains. I suggest taking water shoes if you are going to take the trail to the waterfall. No loud music, Federal Code posting. Stay aware, there are rattlesnakes and Mountain Lions in the region. Take water. Take a retractable dog leash, all dogs on leash.
Nature center was clean and not crowded. It offers outdoor benches under the shade. The center has a display of live snakes, frogs and lizards in addition to some history from the earlier Canyon habitants. If you are willing to challenge yourself (heat during the summer and water during the spring) try the hike to the waterfall. During the spring when the snow is melting down ( I think) you will wet your feet many time in your way to the waterfall. During the summer, the river is dry but the walk to the waterfall is as rewarding. Get water, a snack, your sun protective equipment and adventure into Eaton Canyon. Be careful with the other hike roads that meet the road to the waterfall.
I was anticipating something a little more based off of the pictures I had seen online. This was my first time here as Im not from California. With the extreme drought that the whole state is in, there is nothing here. The waterfall is a trickle. The basin to swim in isnt even deep enough to worry about a toddler. The whole streambed is bone dry. It was a nice hike otherwise. Its part desert with no coverage and part boulder filled stream bed with coverage. Boots are not needed and can easily be hiked by most people. Lots of people with strollers, dont bring them. There is no way to traverse the boulders with them for the last third of the hike.
Clean trail for the most part. Some knuckleheads did throw plastic bottles in the bushes along the trail and Starbucks cups which I picked up and actually carried all the way to the entrance of the trail to recycle. The trail was pretty empty going up to Henninger Flats. Everyone I encountered was nice and friendly. If you are a beginner, this will be a challenging Trail for you. Bring lots of water. The hike up to the top is worth it its beautiful and empry up there as the campgrounds remain closed for camping activities. Unfortunately, the waterfall at Eaton Canyon was not as spectacular as I expected it to be based on the pictures and reviews Ive seen but it was a nice and beautiful hike none the less.
Who doesnt love nature?! I have been hiking here way before it was the cool thing to do! 10 years ago, the trails were very empty and it felt very peaceful. Slowly it got more crowded over the years and Ive watched this place change through different seasons.Even after frequenting this trail for years, it is still one of my favorite ones. Parking is abundant, plentiful and easy. There is a nice nature center that offers family friendly hiking events and information about Eaton canyon, and when we arent in drought season, a beautiful waterfall! I also enjoy the fact that there are multiple trails available with varying levels of difficulty and length at the same canyon. The trail to the waterfall is a nice one for beginners (2.5-3.5 hours round trip) because of the fact that it is a fairly short hike, and that you get to see a beautiful waterfall! It is also a good mix of sun and shade.Great place to enjoy nature and go for a nice hike!
Such a fantastic place to hike, especially with kids. The nature center is fabulous and there are gentle walking trails, climbing trees, creek, and great hikes (to the waterfall, etc...). Downloading the app is a must -- and its worth checking in with the nature center about scavenger hunts, badges the kids can earn, and other great interactive activities!
This place is one of many outdoor places to visit in Los Angeles county and its vicinity. The highlight of this park is the waterfall at the end of the hiking trail. The hike is rather easy and pleasant.expect a walk of about two miles and to get your feet wet. There arent services along the trail and you may be surprised to see wildlife along the way. Ive personally seen deer, small squirrels and rattlesnakes.
The Nature Center itself is pretty small compared to others that Ive visited and there was no employees in sight the hour and a half we were visiting. We popped in and out of thr Visitor Center to use the restroom a few times. Some of the exhibits were closed and if there was a gift shop (a gift shop was listed on the sign) it was closed too on a very busy July 4th weekend. The Nature Trail was poorly maintained with trash and litter. The markers for the Nature Trail were wrong. Marker 6 was supposed to have White and Black Sage. There wasnt a sage plant in sight (there were sage plants along other parts of the trail) just a succulent. We saw a tour group with a guide who said the succulent was Sage and had the kids smell it 😑. Im descended from the Cahuilla and its disappointing to see a sacred plant being misrepresented.
Eaton Canyon has to be my favorite canyon trail in SGV. During covid, I think its better since you have to make reservations online. Its less crowded now which makes parking and hiking a more pleasant experience. The hike itself is flat and easy. The waterfall is always a highlight and there isnt much of an uphill. Its about 3 miles so can be completed in hours. I am glad it gives me a good exercise and not too strenuous. Overall I recommend.
Wonderful hike with a waterfall at the end. Sometimes the waterfall pool is deeper than other times we’ve been. The beginning of the hike is not shaded for awhile so it can be hot later in the day. Recommend going early. Once in the trees there’s shade off and on so much easier handling the California sun. Lovely hike we had on a Sunday late morning!
Awesome trail area to hike with a love one or with friends. I recommend to condition a bit before hiking since in some areas it’s steep. Be brave if the river is a bit higher than average since you might get your shoes wet. Always have fun while being here. Free parking by the way. Or check the street parking if your going when it’s getting darker.
My love saved my life here. We always enjoy our hikes but this time I wasnt in the best health condition nevertheless he took great care of me.The hike is mild towards the waterfall but were attacked the mountain to the right, its not for beginners. A great way to open the lungs and exhale that CO2
We had a great time hiking this trail. The trail starts out very easy - not too strenuous. As you progress the trail becomes a little more difficult and then in order to get to the waterfall it becomes quite difficult. Lots of rock crawling and climbs take you back out of the desert-like terrain and back into a lush, cool forest-like area. Go all the way to the waterfall- its worth the hike! The pool under the fall is shallow and good for splashing in to cool off. What a great area!
I love this trail!! Its about 3 miles long but with a beautiful waterfall at the end. It makes it all worth it. The first part of the trail is super dry and very sunny. The second half is not stroller friendly so leave ya strollers at home. Great trail for dogs they all seemed to enjoy the water. Smaller dogs may need to be carried at some point.
Love this hike, its kinda long depending on how much you want to explore. But I love it. Nice scenery, Lots of parking, but it does get busy. Went a week ago and didnt want to cross the first river and do the hike with my shoes wet! Lol So Ill be going back again soon 😁
Fun hiking trail, if you are hiking to the waterfall and are not sure about crossing wet stones, perhaps this isnt your trail, or you could wear water friendly shoes. The home is fairly easy to the bottom waterfall. The one to above the waterfall is a bit more of a challenge. It all in all is a very enjoyable hike.
Been hiking here for many many years. Free parking, although main lot can fill up quickly there is overflow not too inconvenient. Not a lot of shade but there are patches to cool off in or picnic. Can be quite a lot of water in river bed right after heavy rains, be prepared to cross and possibly get wet.
Wonderful experience hiking here. You do need a reservation to come in but its worth it. Staff is extremely kind and helpful when you ask for help. Many people do not take the time to see that reservations are needed and they end up being rude and disrespectful to the staff. Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation before you drive out.
Eaton Canyon is awesome!Great trails, waterfall, hike and natures all around!Squirrels, lizards...lions and tigers and bears!((oh,my!))🐢 Great place to relax and take it all in...Here with my sons Blake and Roberto Jr.((Bobbys dog,Daisy, shes here too!))I bought them both a walking stick from the awesome gift shop! When they return from their hike,I will give them their walking sticks!A great day,and many Awesome amazing memorys for us all!
A very smooth hike if youre just starting a hiking routine or just enjoy a steady walk with a couple small uphills. Then youll love this place. Just make sure to check the times when its crowded a lot of schools go so on some days it can be very crowded with young kids. Ill give it a 3 in difficulty- an
At first, I did not enjoy the trails because they were so packed with young kids being stupid. I decided to walk the Altadena Crest trail and enjoyed the entire hike. I only came across two other people on the trail and the views were spectacular. Not sure how long the actual hike is, but after 5 miles I had to turn around and hike back down because of the weather. Trails are well kept and very clean.
Great hike with a pleasant unlikely end to our hike. I am spoiled having grown up on Kauai, I went to the beach every day and most days went on a short hike to a waterfall after the beach and rinsed off the salt water in the waterfall. When I was told if a hike to a waterfall I was game even with my 1 month old baby in a front carrier. The trail was fairly busy. I reminded myself that I have seen the most beautiful of waterfalls and kept my expectations low for an urban waterfall but I was pleasantly surprised and so grateful to finally be in the presence of a waterfall again.
First of all, I am reviewing the hike that I did rather than the nature center itself. The most popular hike to the waterfall is frankly not worth your time if you are looking for a hike. If you want to walk your dog for an hour or have an under 7 year old child than it might be worth considering. The walk up is pretty much flat and uninspiring. The path and area is very crowded on weekends and detracts from the hike. The waterfall itself is pretty pathetic. It is only 25 or 30 feet high and the pool at the bottom was surrounded by 50 people on a Sunday. If you wanted to take a swim or pictures think again. Its not worth your time. We then hiked up to the campground at the top of the ridgeline. It was a pretty nice view, but the hike was essentially a dirt road, not even a fire road all the way up. While the area is convenient to Pasadena, if you are a serious hiker skip it and head further out where it is a little less traveled.
Ive lived within walking distance ofthe nature center for years, have always enjoyed the feeling of being in nature, so close to my neighborhood. Lots of foot paths around the nature center, and the trail to the falls is north of the parking lot. (Obey the signs; people climbing near the falls sometimes require rescuing)
Nice moderate hike and easy way to the water fall. I wish I lived a little closer to this place so I could go. More often. I specially like when the water is high and runs down the stream. Always be aware of your surroundings prepared and alert. Pack water and light snacks just in case. All together makes for a wonderful and relaxing hike. Good for kids and others with light hiking experience.
The hike is not too bad. However, if you want to go all the way to see the falls, make sure to pack some water shoes or sandals. You will need them. You have to cross the creek so many times. Unless you dont have a problem getting your shoes wet then sandals or water shoes are necessary. Also dont forget to put sunscreen on. There is not so much shade on the trail and you get direct sun on your skin. I ended up with all my shoulders and arms burn because I forgot to pack my sunscreen. Other than that it was fun. Be ready to find a lot of people. It looks like its a very popular hike.
A real calm place to gather your thoughts. You have to go through a trail for about 30 minutes and reach the lower falls keep going and you’ll reach the upper falls. There are so many trails but people are so friendly that they’ll give you directions and sometimes even track with them.
I didnt even got to the waterfall😢😂 it was super hot!! If youre planning on going make sure you take lost of water and i suggests you to go early like as soon as they open especially now in the summer it gets really hot and you have to walk A LOT !! Take umbrellas for the sun also make sure you take comfortable shoes and keep an eye where you walk, i got to see two damn snakes lol. If youre planning on going with infants make sure they stay hydrated at all times, it really is a long walk..
Love doing this hike trail!! Nice length with shaded paths. Dogs are allowed on leash and parking is easy to find most of the time on the street, with a short walk down into the trail. Best thing is getting to the fall at the end of the trail and enjoying a break to the sound of the falling water before making your way back.
As rookie hikers, it took us about 1hr and 15 min to make it to the fall. Mind you, the fall is not that enormous, but it is a very nice site. We found parking to be a challenge. There was an overflow parking area but the entrance can be easily passed if you blink. The trail itself was pretty smooth and easy, the last 1/3 mile or so was very rocky - make sure you have good shoes and steady balance. I would give 5 star rating were it not for the boom-boxes on the trail (who does that?). There were times when it felt like I was in a mall (translation: more than one person did this)... it was so noisey! Nonetheless, the scenery was beautiful and we enjoyed the outing.
We stopped in to go to the nature center and see if it is kid friendly. It was! Lots of animals for them to see and a few interactive displays to push. Limited gift shop but got a little gift bag for the 4 year old. Didnt hike because we were checking it out but planning a trip back. PARKING WAS FREE!
This place is a great resource for learning about the local flora and fauna. Nice little exhibits with a few live reptiles, and when the place is open, always a knowledgeable docent on hand for trail advice and other information. Nice clean, comfortable bathrooms which is great after a long day of hiking.
I like this hike a lot, but the crowds got to it and many people are so annoying trying to cross the 15 water crossing without touching the water which makes it slow and creates a line. They hopscotch from rock to another so they don’t get wet. On a know water filled hike.Come early at dawn before 8AM to avoid the crowds.Easy but rocky in some areas. Take your socks off and walk through the water. It is refreshing.Or wear water shoes.Bring extra socks.Parking will get real busy if you’re not early.
If youre a novice hiker like I am, this is a good hike for you. Theres a little bit of difficulty, but its still a fairly straightforward hike. You cross rivers, and see waterfalls... it really feels like youre in the woods.Be prepared for around a 3 hour round trip adventure, and make sure to wear sturdy shoes. On our way back, an ambulance had to be called in because someone slipped on a log and dislocated his knee. I also heard that there are fairly a lot of injuries on this trail. So just be careful, and youll have a really good time. :)
Im from Houston so this was my first hike. My cousin (a local) recommended I go... its a beautiful and easy hike if you are in relatively good shape... I highly recommend going really early like 7 am when it opens to avoid the heat... 1 thing I will say that is a tad annoying is that people tend to play their music out loud as if they had never heard of headphones before, and because its such a nice place to hike to, it can get a tad crowded at the waterfall. If you can get passed that then this trail is a nice place to take the family or pups for a walk.
I was very disappointed, Ive been going there for the past 50 years and never had to make reservations. According to the youngsters guarding the entrances, they said that on Memorial day weekend their were large crowds of people who littered the canyon, that is why a reservation is required to control the large crowds of people. Who knows for how long this will be going on for. I believe in the near future that theyll be charging a fee to enter the Canyon. Very sad to see how things have changed over the years, and not for the best. Will be looking elsewhere to do my hiking. 😟☹😡😷
If you only walk a hundred yards, youll see a lot of great stuff here for anyone who cares about wildlife, nature and all things truly beautiful in life. If youre up for some real hiking, theres no end to the delights beckoning you. (1) Bring plenty of water and a map (or navigation device). (2) Make the time. Simple and good.
Its a very easy hike, so it can get fairly crowded sometimes. You need to cross the stream a few times to get to the waterfall so be prepared to get your feet wet if it rained recently. People leave a lot of trash and water bottles here, bring a small trash bag to help pick up trash on the way down if you want to help.
This is a great place for a short visit with the kids to see a small set of local animals and exhibits for kids. This is also the starting point for great hikes for a range of skill levels. Hike to the falls is a moderate to easy trail of about 3 miles out and back. You can also access the mt. Wilson toll road (trail) for longer hikes including to mt. Wilson approx 13 miles round trip. The falls and stream vary in water flow depending on time of year with a heavier flow in the winter, but even after a dry summer there is water at the falls. In the summer the trails get hot so starting early is recommended. The trails to the falls is crowded on weekends, and during the week you find a steady stream of people getting a quick hike, run or dog walk in. This makes the hike fairly safe for those hiking alone to the falls. The mt. Wilson trail is less busy, especially after you pass henniger flats camp ground.
This is a beautiful attraction with nice scenic walkways and hikes that can take an hour or a day (Mt. Wilson). From here you could hike to Henninger Flats for a lunch among the trees. Great for bird watching, trail running, mountain biking, running, or hiking. It’s a great value at no cost. Fun for parents looking for something to do outdoors with their kids on a budget.
First time going to experience the hiking vibe with my two sons. The only negative side of this journey was too many dogs, I have nothing against them but when were at the top of the Canyon where the water fall was, two huskies from different owners almost started a fight and also you can see on the side of the road bags with dogs 💩, Besides that no such a negative rating of this nice experience
Great nature center. I had largely forgotten about it until I saw a plant sale was being held there. Good place to be your starting point on a few easy and a few hard hikes. Otherwise feel free to check in and look around the center. There is some nice interesting stuff.
It was worth going, but the fall had nowhere near the amount of water as displayed in the pics. Also, there was a lot of graffiti on the rocks. There were lots of people on the trail playing loud rap music, etc. Which I find hilarious. Who would wanna do a nature trail listening to rap, without headphones? LOL. Anyway, I give it 3 stars because my fiance and I had a good time and we found a frog. That was cool.
If you have a parking placard youll be more likely to find parking than others that dont come early in the day. Its really popular on weekends. If you plan to go to the waterfall but cant find parking, go back out to Altadena Drive, turn right and drive to Crescent, turn right, then turn right again at the next street (Pinecrest). If theres no street parking there, continue up Pinecrest to Bowring where theres a better chance for parking. Park, then walk back to the Pinecrest gate to the Mt. Wilson Toll Road. Walk down and turn right after you cross the bridge. Then make a right u-turn in a short distance and continue on the trail to the waterfall.
I love hiking Eaton Canyon whatever we can, an excellent opportunity to experience nature and get out of the busy city if you can take it, its only 2 miles to reach the waterfall bring your dog and your friends and a backpack to picnic with you will have a unforgettable experience.
I really enjoyed the hike, the waterfall was a good experience. The only drawback, is it gets extremely packed with a lot of, lets say..... inner city folk, who want to turn it into their little party place. So it gets a little polluted and not to mention the disgusting tagging is horrible and disgraceful to their community.
Visited with a resident of Altadena on a Sunday afternoon, when it was quite busy. It is a marvellous opportunity to see a version of the desert, but brimming withe flowers and plants at the time of year we came.If you really want some seclusion, go at another time, but its fascinating to see what the native countryside and adjacent mountains can offer.

2022-01-03Was in the Pasadena area and wanted to try a hike in the San Gabriel Mountains. Came on Sunday mid-morning, so the parking was pretty full, but people were constantly coming and going. I wasnt quite sure which trail to take to get to the waterfall, so followed others to the left and stayed on the main trail. Theres several small trails that veer off the main path, but I stayed on the main path. After about 30 minutes, youll get to a small sign that says Eaton Canyon Falls 1/2 mile ahead. I followed that sign to the right, but the trail quickly disappeared. Its hard to tell where the trail continues, but basically follow the water upstream. Since theres not an obvious path, youll have to cut back and forth across the water carefully picking your own path. Id rate this a moderate hike as some parts require some balancing, small jumps, some climbs, and some descents. After about 45-60 minutes, you finally reach the end of the hike where the waterfall is located. It rained a few days before my hike so the water was flowing at a decent rate. I was told by locals it can only be a trickle during the dry periods. The hike fun with plenty of shade after the first 15 minutes of open trails. The trails and paths were plenty wide and free of debris. Nice hike with plenty of scenery and wildlife. Will definitely come back and try some of the smaller trails, but still concluding at the waterfall.

2022-06-01Great scenery and easy 4 mile hike for beginners. Brought my parents here and we were able to get to the waterfall. Parking lot gets full fast so make sure to arrive before 6:30am for best spots.

2021-11-27This hike is moderate and awesome. 50/50 sun and shade. You will be hitting the sunlight till you go approach the over pass. After the bridge the canyon is more pleasurable cause of the shade, water and trees. Trail is uneven and you will stepping on rocks and boulders. Bring hiking boots if you want to prevent an sprained ankle. The trail is good for all ages and for dogs on a leash. Waterfall has plenty of water now. This trails is pretty busy on weekends and holidays. Eaton Canyon offers a big parking lot. Arrive earlier, pack in and out your trash and practice the 7 leave no trace principles. Please do not leave trash behind.

2022-01-26Nice easy hike. When you see the bridge the trail will go to the left so that you continue UNDER the bridge. Lots of stream crossing that can be done without getting in the water if youre careful. I did see a lady slip and fall in so if you have poles they definitely will help you with your balance while crossing but it can be done without them. As long as you are following the water any way you take will get you there, cant really get lost so dont sweat going the wrong way. Make sure to bring a snack to enjoy once you get to the falls. 😁

2022-06-09Decided to try this hike suggested by fellow JPLers since Chantry Flats is still closed.Plenty and some close parking spaces from where the hike starts, there is also a Nature Center with a nice surprise inside.A soda/water vending machine is on the left before the entrance.Go there early since there is not much shade most of the treck but there are some cool creek crossing areas with trees before getting to the falls.Short hike 40 to 50 minutes each way...enjoy!

2022-02-06Pro; beautiful, easy/moderate hike to the waterfall, dog friendly. Con; can be overcrowded from time to time, and people need to take their trash out with them(if not, stay home in your own filth).

2021-08-06Enjoyed the hike with surprising old abandoned structures on the way, and a waterfall spot loved by furry friends. Has a bit of challenging rocky parts, but nothing extreme. Better be there before they open, as their parking lots are not big, and nearby street parking is almost imposible, and tends to get more and more crowded as the day goes by.

2022-05-06Beautiful views! And a perfect morning hike! 1 hour to get to the waterfall and another hour back but the scenery makes it worth it!
