The staff was very professional and kind. They let me know everything about the dog I was adopting. They gave me as much time as I needed to get to know the puppy. They were very helpful in Sharing what they knew about the history of the dog and the dogs temperament. It was a very good experience. We love our new dog.
Fantastic facility. The staff are extremely dedicated to the cause. I have not personally adopted from this location, but the next time that I am looking for a furry friend I will be coming here. Despite the surrounding area looking like a construction site, the center is beautiful haven with outdoor green space. There is ample parking. I would not recommend the walk from the Bart station.
Ive gotten almost all of my pets from hear and they are wonderful! The staff is helpful and knowledgeable without pressuring you into adopting right then and there! The animals are all well taken care of and seem to be treated really well! Animal welfare is definitely the cornerstone of this place and I 100% recommend supporting this animal shelter!! !
My dogs were brought in at 5. Because theyre closed they didnt bother to call me to let me know. Instead they kept them. Since I didnt have them neutered by religious believes they refuse to give them back. Now I have to break my believes just to get my family back... they didnt get out someone let them out when they opened the gate to break into my home and steal my vehicle. Of course it doesnt matter and I get they where out. But they were chipped and collared, so for them to be refuse to let me take my dogs as they are is completely unfair
When we went on a very busy weekend, there were friendly staff and volunteers. Everyone was extremely helpful in facilitating our kitty-cat adoption. Raquel explained everything thoroughly and made the introduction of our new fur baby easy and a great experience. My son and I are so happy with the newest member of our family 🐈.
I volunteer here on Saturdays and Sundays and its such an amazing and heartwarming place to work. Not only are all of the animals sweet, but the staff and other volunteers are so friendly and welcoming and helpful. Its also really awesome and uplifting when a perfect family/person comes and adopts their perfect animal match with ease and no hassle.
Highly recommended! They do such an amazing job with the animals. They have rooms where you can interact with the cats you might be interested in adopting. If youre interested in dogs, they let you go outside for a walk with them. Great staff and volunteers! Once youre ready to adopt, one staff member sits with you and guides you through the process. Cheap adoption fees in comparison with other places too! I adopted a cat from them and they made the process such a rewarding experience!
This was such a great place to adopt from! I had to make an appointment, but they let me spend plenty of time with my cat before making any decisions still. They also sent me home with all kinds of supplies that his old owner had dropped off with him. I had some behavioral issues initially with my baby and Micah was so helpful and walked me through them, even though it had been a couple months since I adopted.
Had to take my dog Queenie there 2 weeks ago. Sadly it was to have her put to sleep as she was old and had become very sick. Staff was friendly and sympathetic. Arrived home 2 days ago after work to find that the staff sent over a very nice card with her paw print on it and was signed by the staff. Would definitely recommend them.
Our family arrived last Sunday looking for a young cat since our cat passed after 16 years. We were all very sad but decided to take a look and see. We adopted a little guy that has warmed up to us and we are happy to have visited the facility. Great service and pricing.
Clean, friendly and knowledgeable staff. We adopted our first pup here. Well, senior pup. We visited about 5 other East Bay adoption centers or humane societies and this one was the best. Highly recommended if youre looking for a professional place to adopt a dog or just see the pups on offer.
My girlfriend and I came here Saturday to adopt a cat and had a great experience, the place is very clean. They have a large selection of cats who are all well takin care of. They provide a lot of information on each cat and let you spend some time with the cat you want. Lissett was very nice and helpful gave us a lot of helpful information. We got the cat we wanted thank you!
I adopted the sweetest three year old tortishell cat from here. The staff was fantastic and sent me home with lots of stuff to make sure her transition went well and it did. I would return the large animal crate except she loves lying on top of it and looking out the window.
We adopted a dog from the Oakland SPCA and we had a great experience there. This shelter is SUPER clean and the animal kennels there are a good size and seem really nice. The staff were nice and there were a good amount rooms were you could privately spend as much time with the animal as you needed. The adoption fee is also a good amount. I liked that we could pay 25 dollars to put the animal on hold for 24 hours so you could come back and see the animal again and if you decide to adopt the animal the money counts as part of the adoption. It also great that all there animals come spayed/nuetered and microchipped. The whole adoption process was great.
I have concerns about this organization. Why would they trap stray kittens in Concord that are only a couple weeks old and leave the mom there crying and moaning? Then give the kittens to a person with zero foster experience. Two of the kittens clearly needed medical care. If they cared about animals, they would take the mom as well so the kittens can get the nutrition they need and mom kitty can be cared for also. Another organization immediately caught the mom, but the inexperienced SPCA foster refused to reunite the kittens with the mom. I seriously question the knowledge and skills of the people representing the SPCA in responding to calls for help in catching and caring for the animals.
While they eventually did help me... They were very reluctant to show me a puppy I had heard they had... let me explain... Our dog disappeared last week... Around the same time a found animal report, matching the description of our dog, was submitted to Oakland Animal Services (OAS). I naturally rushed over to OAS who told me it was the SPCA who had the dog... So I went to the SPCA where it took me over an hour to convince the the staff to even show me the dog... I guess this could be good from a security standpoint in an attempt to make sure peoples pets dont get claimed by the wrong people...
This is an awesome shelter, non profit, private donations, this is not a municipal shelter. They take only what they can, so sometimes they have to say no to cats and dog if they dont have the resources, they have a pretty good volunteering system. They are based on Oakland and dublin. They have hospitals in both places. There is a trello system where you can check what is available for foster.
My aunts bully pit was in dire need for emergency surgery and it was beyond expensive and not a guarantee to saving her life. They were able to perform the surgery at a reduced the price and save her pit. The dog is recovering well and back to be spoiled rotten. Thanks for saving Baby D she is one of the last gifts my aunts husband got her right before he passed.
Full disclosure: Im a volunteer, but Ive adopted 4 animals from here. Being a volunteer has shown me the depths to which they care about their animals. Adopting from then has shown me the quality of animals they have. If youre looking for an new member to your household, do yourself a service and check them out.
My dog went astray in Oakland. A neighbor took her to the SPCA on Baldwin Street. They failed to sign her in after scanning her chip. By the time I finally unraveled what happened it was 5 days. They allowed a couple to take my dog. Showing no wrong doing they tried to hide the fact they gave her away. I had to get her back because shes a service dog. Shes my companion Pet so I had to get her back.
Adopting a 3 month old kitten from here has been a very frustrating experience. The adoption center, vet across the street, and vet office are giving conflicting information about vaccines and feline leukemia tests. They let us adopt the 3 month old, but in order for it to interact with our existing cat, needs to get a leukemia test that is only accurate once the kitten is 6 months old. So now is the expectation we keep the kitten locked away in a room for 3 months? Very disappointed with this process and the amount of money for the kitten adoption and useless vet trips.
This place has a terrible service, I take my dog in bad conditions at 11:00 am and a Chinese girl told me who, we could not attend my pet, who were already sawing, with a very rracist attitude. I tried to get my puppy to another place, I went in front of the clinic at 3:00 pm. and I was there. I did not rrecomiendo this place, the Chinese or Filipino girl she its the worst rreceptionists Ive ever dealt with in my life I imagine what kind of veterinarian should have this place, same or worse.Do not carry your pets to this place rubbish.
I saw a cute puppy that my family and I wanted, but the next day, the image was changed into another dog that does not look “5 month” instead full grown. I’m surprised of how they’ve fooled us good. I’ve even started stressing out of how I’m supposed to show my parents.
Incredibly poorly run. Melissa at the front desk made it nearly impossible to drop off a lost dog found in the streets. I was told on the phone somebody would take the pupper but once i arrived they told me they were taking lunch and wouldnt take him. I convinced them to take them but told them i needed the harness and leash back since it belongs to my pupper. She told me it wasnt worth interrupting the cops lunch for and to come back this weekend?? Ive probably protected and served this city more today then those cops have in their whole careers.
This place is so annoying to adopt from. I ended up having to take a day off of work so I could be the first one in line when they opened. If you dont work from home, have a decent sized home, or have multiple pets already, expect some amount of shade and verbalized concern from the staff.
Heres my problem. Originally took my 12 year old lab in as she was losing hair. The vet said hyperthyroidism and put her on a lifetime regimen of meds. So the meds did nothing for hair loss issue but cost some amount. I tried to renew and was told have to give 200. exam and test each year. I didnt have the money second year and was given a pay or die response from the receptionist. Oh yes never solved after 2 years the hair issue after asking several times. Now no prescription hair loss and not knowing what to do.
Any place that tries to push homosexuality on a dog is really sick. The veterinarian on the other hand its just a straight-up scam Ive adopted several pets from here since I was very young and it just keeps getting worse and worse for some reason they cant find one black person in the middle of Oakland California to work in there and every time you go in there they always treat you like what are you doing here?
I adopted my cat Gansito (formally known as Daryl at the shelter) and I am glad that I went with this shelter. The adoption process is very quick. By the end of the week I got to take my loving companion home. The staff are so nice and welcoming. Micah and Lissette helped me throughout the adoption. Due to Covid-19, I had to make an appointment to meet Gansito (aka Daryl). Micah was able to provide me with a great and spot-on description of my cat’a personality. Lissette helped me fill out the adoption papers, provided great customer service, and gave me useful information for my cat’s wellbeing. If you are looking to adopt go with East Bay SPCA because they know what they are doing :)
Four months ago, the youth group that I lead signed up for a virtual tour of the East Bay SPCA facilities with Heather. The expectation was that the children would be given a virtual tour, learn about what is involved with domestic animal care, and play an animal Bingo game. The tour was fast. If I recall correctly, it was a pre-recorded tour, basically something I could have found on YouTube of any shelter facility or animal show. The Q&A pace was rushed, and Heather never played the game; she stated in our confirmation email that she would do that with the youth group.Lastly, she did not disclose that the processor they use for securing payment will make your event information publicly searchable on the World Wide Web. That’s right, your first and last name, geo location along with identifying information about your organization, even if it Includes minor children. My opinion is that the East Bay SPCA has a very cavalier and sloppy attitude regarding virtual safety of minors and patron data collection. Their virtual tours are extremely lacking in quality.

2022-04-28This is by far the most difficult place to adopt a dog from, Ive been trying for 2 week to adopt a dog but you can only adopt them if you schedule an appointment on n their website, which is nearly impossible as all date are booked, finally I decided to call them only to go find out that the phone line on their site isnt actually the one you need to call in Oakland, so I had to be transferred by the Dublin office I suppose? .. any way after my call got dropped twice I eventually hear back from them ,I talked to the they said that they will try to squeeze in , went to the he website again and s you surprisingly I was able to book a date 3 days ahead only to find out that their dog. I was trying to adopt for all this time was adopted the day I book the appointment. Very frustrating process. Disappointing. I will never talk out anyone to adopting a dog regardless of the placebut just be aware if you are to adopt from this shelter in particular, you might be dealing with a lot of disappointment.

2020-12-21Wonderful place to adopt, volunteer, foster, and get veterinary care for your pet. The staff is very caring and knowledgeable. Also great fundraising events, after-school programs, and dog training available. I have adopted from here and the staff takes the time to ensure you have all of the information you need to be the best prepared to take care of your pet. I also foster and volunteer here and it has been such a positive, organized, and fulfilling process being involved with this organization.

2021-07-22I went to espca this past Sunday to get a dog for my kids. To make the long story short they did not inform me that the dog had fleas and ticks nor did they tell me he had kennel cough. I know dogs especially puppies are expensive but this puppy is super expensive and I feel that they just wanted to get rid of the dog so the new dogs can come in

2020-10-01Adopted this sweet 2 year old ex-stray who was taken into east bay SPCA with her 6 kittens. Though we did no contact adoption where everything was explained via phone & email, and the in person part was just signing paperwork, paying the fees, and getting her in her crate (which they provide: made out of cardboard and lined with a blanket), the team was very thorough in providing what I needed to move forward with the adoption, such as explaining her background, the progress observed in socialization by the behavior team, medical history, and additional videos & photos to make sure we were extra confident about bringing her in. They made sure many times that we knew she is very shy. Once brought home, we approached her carefully, but within the day (after several check ins) she was showing affection and was very relaxed.I’ll do my part to support this organization and recommend adopting from there to my friends!

2018-07-10This past Saturday I went to visit the shelter with one of my neighbors and one of his nephews to see some of the dogs and cats but mostly the dogs, we had a good time there I asked the volunteers and counselors there some questions about what breeds could suit me better in 5 years or so, they were nice, I even got to meet one of them in person who Ive been calling and sending letters to for the shelter of course, we then walk at least 2 dogs in the playground and grass in the parking lot, they were nice and friendly dogs, afterwards I donated $5 and left my contact information as I plan on visiting the shelter every now and then if I dont have work on some of my days off.
