Santa Monica downtown is an icon of the West Los Angeles. If you are in the mood for great food, shopping, gorgeous views of the ocean, a stroll on a pier, or a dip in the ocean, then Santa Monica is your place. The pandemic has caused a few places to close their doors, however, this place still has tons to offer. So drive down or take the expo line and come experience this gem for yourself!
They gave high end stores, restaurants, trendy bars, shopping for shoes, clothes and books - I can go on and on. I would ditch from UCLA and be roaming around the promenade. Great place for dates, family outings, shopping and dining. And did I say Dining !! True Food and Cabo Cantina were my favorites. I tried others but nope! But so many spots to go!!
Although a lot of stores closed due to the pandemic still a good place to go.its a good sign to see tourist are back . The seaside cafes and restaurants are packed with people. The parking still an issue in Santa Monica you have to park little further than other places. All in all it a good vibe city. Enjoy .
Well kept city. If youre a smoker you should know smoking is banned from downtown - clean air act. A bit commercialized for my taste. Great night life. Beach is steps away. Homeless issue is evident here as is everywhere else. Public seating is reserved for parks and customers mainly.
Great place to go shopping and relaxing! They have most of the common shopping stores, they also have great restaurants with a variety of options. Its in the open so it’s always nice to get some fresh air unlike majority of malls!Didn’t see any street performance that usually they have, but it’s expected due to COVID and of course lack of tourism!
Went and ordered a BLT went outside to sit down first table was sticky moved to another table when the server came out and gave us our food just popped it down on the table didnt even say heres your food nothing thought that was very disrespectful wife opens her sandwich and seen the lettuce inside made her gag went in to tell the server about her sandwich in the lettuce the cook laughed at her and then the server started laughing well never go back again regardless of how good the rest of the food is how they shoot for other people heres a picture of our lettuce
Shops are great, the placement of the escalators and bathrooms is really bad. Like not even semi inconvenient, like over the top inconvenient so you have to walk by more storefronts. No one who has to pee really bad is going to stop in and buy the cheese grater when theyve got to walk an extra 1/4 mile. Lol
There is stuff within walking distance, so if youre on travel and dont want it have access to a car, youll be fine. Walking malls, the Pier, bike path, public transportation. Santa Monica has it all. We biked to Venice Beach in 30 mins on the bike path, so getting around is easy.
Today my wife and I were on the Promenade when she was having a medical emergency and needed a restroom immediately. Well THERE ARENT ANY! There are a few restrooms in the parking garages, which are VERY inconvenient to get access to. The public services design are horrible. Do better.
A vibrant downtown with lots of restaurants and people-watching opportunities!Seeing more and more homeless and mentally ill people in the area, at night especially. At times they can be intimidating. Such a spread of society, from the worst off to the financially affluent.
Absolutely love walking around promenade in downtown Santa Monica. What a fun day! Looking for a decide as you go sort of day? Santa Monica is a great place for that!It is lined with variety of stores- even a mall to explore! Also, there are rental scooters if you want to use them.Granted, it always gets busy! No doubt about that, but its still worth it. Get there early or go midweek to manage the parking shortage that can often occur. Also, you can walk the pier, beach, or through the park! For the best experience and to see the a lot street and others activities, you need to go on a Friday or Saturday night. The street really comes to like around 9pm. There is no shortage of good restaurants on the street, but the atmosphere is what makes it special.
Temporary Friends (LEGO) Exhibit I was glad to have visited. 3rd Street Promenade always does not disappoint, there was many sights and deals. Looking forward to returning to stay there longer and to see more of what the area has to offer. Good place to take out of town or country guests.
Santa Monica is a pretty beach city with a few flaws. Great to walk around and do shopping, sit somewhere and watch entertainment or to just stop by for some food with friends. A little pricy, but then again which beach city isnt expensive now a days. Worth the visit if youve never been though.Update: lots more transients now than ever before. The city is sadly overrun with them and it really takes away from what SM used to be. Dont be surprised to be asked for change at every corner or someone lashing out by themselves. Although nothing major has happened, still watch yourself and your belongings.
Lively and diverse place where you can see a lot of people, shops, and interesting establishments. Accessible by public transport with parking buildings to accommodate visitors with their own cars. You can encounter great public performers along 3rd St as well. On top of hsving good weather, the streets are clean and neat, making your walk around the places quite enjoyable.
This was very fun to go to. I recommend going here, not alone but with at least a friend. Pretty loud too yet very much interesting stuff to find. pretty expensive though but i didnt mind. The beach is very calming yet busy at the day. The rides there were closed but was told before they were open. Very beautiful sight to see at night or sun set.
This is a nice place to visit with family and friends, there are many options to eat different kind of food. There are shops of all kinds too, there are cinemas, spas, ice cream and much more. Ideal for walks and drinks. Sometimes there are shows on the streets, fun decorations and even read your hand to know your future.
Downtown Santa Monica is a cool spot to visit. It was pretty busy on the Sunday that I was there There are many shops, bars and restaurants. Great place to hang out with friends or family. You have the beautiful beach nearby as well. Was able to find parking in a garage for $10. Definitely a spot to be cautious and pay attention to your surroundings though.
Fantastic happening place in downtown (if you call it that, certainly a fun place but no “downtown” vibes)Visited here around Aug 2019, and the best weather to go around Venice beach, then Santa Monica pier and then spent the night hereJust stroll around for 15-30 mins, see what’s going around - lots of roadside shows and things going on - so don’t miss itand Definitely some places around the side - check any you like - I personally loved the one by ocean ride, forgot the name
A place with sparkling musical ambience,🎶🥁colorful evening to enjoy with family & friends with variety entertainment of Robots, Magic , shows, weird mimicry, guitar🎸 music etc, etc, greatest joyous ambience to charge your spirits & senses my for happy evening. Must Spend as much time as you can. WOW place to be
Downtown Santa Monica was absolutely gorgeous for a visit. It had many super fun options for stores - from restaurants, to a candy store, to lots of shopping, and of course a great Starbucks as well. It also had clean public restrooms, very important, and plenty of parking. But most of all, it was absolutely gorgeous. My partner and I just loved walking under a brightly-lit canopy of color. And we found these cute skateboard swings to hang out on for a break from enjoying the area.Great date night potential here, highly recommend.
Great wandering experience with tons of shops to look at, and lots of shopping and people watching to do. People are for the most part friendly there, with lots of street entertainers as well (some more entertaining than others).Fantastic place to take visiting family, especially if its a nice day out like it was when we went. If say go when its about to be sunset so youre not baking in the SoCal sun, you can enjoy the sunset view, and see the promenade at night :)
The Ocean Luxury Loft & Suites is located at 107 Broadway in Santa Monica, Ca. It offers full studio style lodging with ample lounging, dining and sleeping space. There is also plenty of things to do right here in the heart of the city. Eating, drinking, walk or ride, bike skate to the beach is my favs. I give this property and the area 4.5. People walking, buses honking and club music bumping makes the noise excessive so only stay if you dont mind being awakened through the night. Enjoy
Back in my home country we call it general cultureAnd its that amount of knowledge about the world you have got to have. Comin here at least once in a life time is required , in order to collect that knowledge. This place is part of the worlds most beautiful places...
Third Street Promenade is a lovely outdoor strip mall perfectly located just near the Santa Monica Pier and ocean front. Of an evening all of the fairy/party lights come on and has somewhat of a romantic atmosphere about it.The gardens are manicured well and kept immaculate and there is a wide selection of stores from designers to surf shops, there is something for everyone here. Great for kids as they tend to have little activity areas scattered throughout the walk. And there’s so many eateries to choose from!Nearby parking is affordable and usually available, I have never not found a parking spot even on the weekends! The only real downside is the public restrooms are few and far between, I walked for about 20 mins trying to find one! Even Starbucks doesn’t have a restroom so more signage would be useful.Definitely worth a visit if you have time, dusk/early evening is lovely with all of the lights!
Nice to walk down the Santa Monica pier n the downtown, been there yesterday on 28th Sunday 2018, with my son , a very big city, thought the temperature is hot its cool to walk down the streets.. A must have on your bucket list to visit but on week ends its too crowded. There are a giant wheel, roller coaster, merry go round for children , a very big beach, but we just watched it from the roadside n took photos, didnt go down the pier or walked on the beach
SANTA MONICA PIERpeople who need the Santa Monica pierThe Fishing men & women also their kidsAll the staffers working in businessesLets not forget the maintenance crewAlso the clean up crew in the parking lot in the wee of the nightMost importantly all the officers who are included as our FRONT LINE WORKERS everyone please stand up to applaud our men & women in uniform working the beatI visited the pier Saturday night weather was clear around 7 pm have not been there in about 14 months nothing just been away no problemCould not make it down the hill but I do know is that this Pier has a lot of restaurants gift shops souvenirs shops arcades live music etc etcThe sink in the fishing area is crucial cutting board too running water , bathrooms snack shop Police office restaurants lights on threw the wee of the night all this at the very end of the Pier for the publicBeautiful just beautiful you tell me about a better place YOU CANT ! SANTA MONICA PIER is a all in one place no other Pier can come close o ya it has a, ( A ) rating from the city of Santa Monica health departmentThank you sanitation workers we did not forget you , thanks goes out to the special unpermitted venders task force officers keep it up keep those kids out , so all the business can welcome the tourist & local visitors, I am no priest but Ill give it a try !BLESS YOU ALL & BLESS AMERICA Feb 8 2022
Nice area but majority of shops are not diverse. Food places are not very good. Expensive. No variety. Stores on second and fourth street are ignored. The firm that operates this area doesnt appear concerned about accompanying areas and Santa Monica Place is not Beverly Hills. The bars are terrible, no control over drunks and people are cold.
Traffic is horrible, parking is very difficult to find. Ones you get inside the mall( if you find parking) it’s such a huge mall you really have to walk far to get to your destination. They ask for your vaccination card when watching a movie and the stair case has been broken there for a while now.If you do not like looking for parking or over crowded malls, do not come here.Obviously it’s pretty and clean and modern… but I’d like to go to see my movie without trouble finding parking.
Interesting place. A study in contradictions. Both stylist and lavish, and pretentious at the same time. As if they understand you, but loathe you at the same time. I know that Im being more blunt and critical as of late, but times have changed. The entire world has changed. People who have been raised to be polite and meek are showing their true colors. Ive never proclaimed to be anything like meek. And my true colors, as hard to believe as they are, will repel some, attract others...I care not for either. These are my own experiences. I will tell them how I saw them. Right or wrong, but brutally honest and candid. I think its about that People step out of the shadows. If you believe what you are trying to sell, take off the veil and show me your eyes when you lie to the world.
It was way more better before, of course most things were, but ever since the pandemic hit, half of the stores arent even there and some of their best businesses arent there anymore (understandably). So with that in mind, its not as fun as before, at least not with little stores there.
Downtown Santa Monica is a variable ghost town of the shuffling feet of the walking dead and Starbucks locations.. the stillness and complete silence is beyond breathtaking... you can literally hear the waves rhythmically crashing from 6th street... there is nothing like it on earth. Well... I mean... Venice Beach is right next to it... but whateves... you can find beauty in everything.. just gotta look.
So well LIT..so much energy..such a positive vibe..happy people..theres dancers, musicians, artists, etc. engaging the crowd and pulling them close with their specialities and skills.May the Lord help you end your shopping spree here.. (you cannot stop until youre broke!!)
So much to see as you walk around. Street performers, foods, shopping. Must experience it at least once. Locals mainly stay away buy if you are visiting definitely go. 1 & 1/2 Hours Free parking in most of the structures. Barneys Beanery is a great spot to watch games. So many TVs
Nice, clean open space, perfect for walking your dog. I love the view. Lots of name brands, and street entertainment. The only issue is parking, however there is a cheap public parking near by, and seems pretty safe. Good to walk around with the family or significant other.
I love the vibes, the Piers experience, the only thing is the parking issues, we stayed at the 8th parking garage.it was 45 for the night.. i would recommend using the parking garage at civic center, sure you ending walking 10 mins..but is still worth it. You ending only 25$ for the night
Amazing place to take a break from work and the city. Really close to the beach and the famous Santa Monica Pier. Your favorite stores all in one place. Bus or train can get you here like the Metro Expo Line to Downtown Santa Monica or Buses like 733, 33, 720, 20, R7 2, 1 and more.
Sooooo awesome of a place to visit. Between the beach, the water, and the people there’s ton to watch. The pier is stunning and filled with different vendors. There is also a little carnival type space. There are a few restaurants of you want to grab a bite to eat or a quick drink. There’s also a lot of people fishing off of the pier.Be prepared to see lots of homeless people walking toward the pier. No issues with any of them, it’s just kind of sad.
OH NO ! My wife and I drove to this Third Street Promenade from our hotel not far away on Saturday afternoon....to walk the shops so to speak. We found a metered street parking spot a couple of streets away and walked a quite a distance to get here. We started at one end and worked our way along....LOTS OF EMPTY SHOPS and too many HOMELESS hanging out. If a cafe or something that looked inviting came up then we would have grabbed some lunch.....NOTHING ! At one point I needed to use a public restroom which turned out be a long walk down a corridor and then across an alley....pretty old restrooms and not up to tourist standards. And then we came upon a pretty Apple store which stuck out like a sore thumb. This street mall is not an inviting place and I wouldnt be seen dead here after dark. Apparently there was a Bloomingdales at one end until it closed 12 months ago. CLEAN IT UP !
It was the perfect place to enjoy sunset, food and drinks, theme park, street performance, beach, altogether at once. Very big parking lot so you dont have to worry about where to park. A lot of food choices. Very breezy at the afternoon and beautiful during sunset and quite crowded
Either you can enjoy the promenade on third street with all its stores and restaurants with live shows mostly on weekends, or you can visit the famous Santa Monica Pier with its rides, fair games, doing some fishing, exercising, and get your souvenirs ! Defenetly, you have to visit Downtown Santa Monica when visit LA !! 🤩
There is a lot to see, near by is the 3D art museum which is a family fun activity. You can find a public parking$2.00 per 2 hours right on 4th street and Arizona street. Down town is located on 3rd st. The pier is about half block away. There is a lot to see, walk. Shop or eat! Is pretty nice. I love Carlos bakery! I will recomend to visit Santa Monica down town.
Excellent place to visit, there are plenty of restaurants and things to do in the area.Everything is accessible with electric scooters and bicicles and there are a lot of activities by the pier as well as surrounding it, you will need at least a couple days in the area to fully explore everything Santa Monica has to offer.
I have been going to Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Place, and downtown Santa Monica for most of my adult life. It has gained enormously in popularity since the addition of the LA Metro Expo Line connecting downtown Los Angeles to downtown Santa Monica. Santa Monica is no longer the sleepy little beach town it used to be. Even over the past five years, it has become a continally bigger urban center that is facing some growing pains lately. The city government is doing its best to keep up with the pace of the growth. If you are not local to the area, TAKE LA METRO or Santa Monicas Big Blue Bus public transit to and from here. It will save you the headache of driving in traffic every day of the year, even more so during the incredibly popular summer months when over one million people descend on the sandy beaches of Santa Monica and nearby communities daily. It is also very expensive to park in downtown Santa Monica and continuing to rise annually. The closer to the ocean, the higher the rates. Dont kid yourself about finding metered parking or free parking in surrounding neighborhoods. Its far and few between. The city streets are so highly regulated with complex parking permit only neighborhoods with even more complex time and day restrictions that it is not worth taking your car. Public transit is the way to get there. Or one of the many ride services available.Bring a backpack to carry not only your beach needs but also a light jacket or sweater for after 5:00 p.m. when the coastal marine layer will come in and create a fog bank and temperatures 20 degrees F cooler than you would expect.Once there, there are alot of things to see and do. Walking up and down the five block Third Street Promenade and the newly remodeled Santa Monica Place at the south end of Third Street is great outdoor enjoyment. Be sure to walk on 2nd Street and 4th Street for additional great retail, food, and entertainment experiences. Ocean Avenue is also great. The ever popular Santa Monica Pier is worth the short walk and braving the throngs of people daily that visit it.I dropped one star because the availability of clean public restrooms is a big issue. Also the overabundance of a very visible and sad reminder that LA County has a homeless population that exceeds the governments ability to handle it. These unfortunate people are everywhere and you will encounter this sad issue no matter where you go.That said, I would still recommend this area as a must see whether you are local to LA or visiting from abroad!
Downtown Santa Monica California is festive fun and a great all day and all nite place to visit with family, friends, dates and solo!Lots of parking eating, drinking shopping, walking, people watching and the Pacific Ocean just a few blocks away!....#santamonica,#santamonicadowntown,#californiadreaming, #californiadreamin,#whattodoinsantamonica,#california,#
Do not miss the iconic entrance of the Santa Monica Pier. A large double jointed pier, a landmark that is over 100 years old. Electric vehicles, cycles, skateboards are all available for rent. Finding a parking will be a big ask, costs $20 and above to park your vehicle at the beach.
Visited Santa Monica after a couple of years or more, covid has slammed this place. Activity has picked up but not to the pre-pandemic levels. Quite a few shops are closed. However, mask mandate is still in place and things are looking good. Hopefully it gets better soon.
Beautiful as always. Take the metro expo line to the last stop. It will leave you in the heart of downtown Santa Monica! ***UPDATE 4/18/22***I have been here in a while but when you work as much as I do every once in a while your gonna wake up at the last stop where you was supposed to be home in bed hours ago and you dont even recall falling asleep. DTSM is a little more Quite then I remember, but its just as beautiful as it always was.
We visited here on our final day of vacation. This is an extremely touristy destination, with some nice things, and also not so nice things.Don’t expect to come here on a weekend without traffic. Don’t expect to find parking easily.Do expect to see thousands of people milling about. Do expect to find good places to eat.If anything, visit the pier. There’s lots to do out there, and it really is a fun atmosphere.
There are lots of things to do in Downtown Santa Monica, California. You can get you shopping fix by visiting any of the numerous stores, boutiques, the malls and of course the Third Street Promenade. If youre hungry, you wont be by the time you leave the area. Endless eateries and restaurants will tempt your tummy and satisfy your cravings. Many of the restaurants even feed the homeless upon closing. The area is safe, well patrolled, well maintained. Every time I go to Santa Monica I find new or learn something new about the area.
Lovely beach and some great houses facing the sea! We stayed around Los Angeles airport but took a bus to santa Monica which takes about an hour by bus.Choice of restaurants are fantastic and love the laid back attitude of the town.If you are in Los Angeles and like sun n sand, this is a good beach to visit.A great place for shopping too with thousands of outlets close to the beach
Santa Monica is a mixture of experiences. Its beautiful, its chaotic, busy, loud, but non the less its a classic. The view of the ocean at sunset is breathtaking. Santa Monica Pier is filled with kitschy vendors, overpriced restaurants, thrilling roller-coasters, street performers who range from kooky to interesting to back to kooky, but it is an essential part of LA experience.
Very lively and fun during the day but lots of aggressive homeless and beggars at night. My elderly parents and I were harassed and followed by a man demanding money and he was very persistent. They should have security at night, at least until all the shops are closed.
The general area covers a nice walking area from third street promenades north end into the mall itself. You can then cross the street and walk for a couple of blocks to reach Santa Monica Pier and the beaches. Its good for showing visitors from out of town. City parking in the structures are free for the first 90 minutes.
Really expensive shops and plenty of girls in animal print that should not wear animal print Im just saying dont any of them look in the mirror before they leave to come outside or do they intimidate their significant other so much that they will tell them that they look great I just dont get it
Even though I cant afford anything in Santa Monica.. the people watching is great. Last time I was there everything was covered in Ash because of the fires. Still there were beautiful people out like is was no big deal that Santa Monica looked like silent Hill.. stay classy Cali!
Going every week to Santa Monica, I am perusing beauty stores, Mac store to get new tablets and gizmos. I am in love with this carless street, full of music, and good restaurants to indulge in great meals, and watch people go by. Superb historic landmark theaters. And Nordstrom for clothes. Lovely and close to the Peer
The Not bad. Honestly a bit overrated in most spots. 3rd Street Promenade, depending on the night, will live up to the hype. A lot of shopping, more or less the same as many other places in Los Angeles, but worth visiting if for no other reason than the promenade. Beware of the hobo tent park just east of this location, very shady and not somewhere you want to find yourself after the sun has set.
Ahhhh. Just an ordinary day in downtown Santa Monica. Or is it? In fact I dont think Any day is ordinary around here. The sights, the sounds, the people are different each and every day!! ❤💙💜 Downtown Santa Monica and Third Street are Gems of SoCal! This upscale pedestrian mall has everything from dining, to shopping to the vast entertainers that adorn Downtown Santa Monica! Local Suggestion, ditch the car and hop on a scooter. My faves are Lyft and Lime. You could spend Hours on end, day in and day out exploring All Downtown Santa Monica had to offer on these 2 wheeled speed demons. In fact I got mine up to 15.4 mph! Just hang on, obey the traffic laws, and ride smart!Other than that, enjoy the Fabulous Weather you can Only find out here in SoCal.The Third Street Promenade and Downtown Santa Monica are overseen by Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. (formerly Bayside District Corporation), a private non-profit 501(c)(3) that works with the City of Santa Monica to manage services and operations in Downtown Santa Monica that promote economic stability, growth and community life within Downtown Santa Monica.-wikipedia 2019
We parked in one of the public parking structures (number 2) which was easy and not too expensive. The immediate downtown area was pretty dirty and much like any other city really. We used one of the bridges to get over to the beachfront area which was really dirty and smelled of urine with discarded carpet, bottles and other litter everywhere. The beach was nice and clean though and we enjoyed a walk down to the pier after which we walked back along the beach and over the bridge
Great place to visit! Mild ocean breezes... shopping, dinner and the movies in one location. You can take a stroll or window shop and people watch, there are street performers too. The outdoor mall is on the south end with more stores including Bloomingdales, Nordstroms and a rooftop food court. A walk to the pier and beach is only two short blocks away where more fun awaits. Children friendly or just for a romantic date, take a break and visit here.

2022-02-05The atmosphere was nice for a walk. The people all seemed to be having a good time and there was plenty to just look at. And the birds seemed to be enjoying themselves as well lol It was great to grab a funnel cake and sit on a bench and enjoy the view

2022-05-14Enjoyed the location, scenery, and food. Parking can be a pain and the food was a bit pricey for what you got but if you don’t mind it’s not bad by any means. Overall it can be a moderately cheap time or very expensive depending on how you decide to go about it.

2021-08-09Visiting from Hawaii this is one of my new favorite spots! So much to see and so much to do very happy environment, live music, shops, restaurants and bars! I definitely recommend coming here to have a good time and great spot for family and friends to enjoy!
