Terrible experience and also terrible employees. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!! I had a prepaid, confirmed reservation to pick up my car at 9am. Got there at 8:50am and was told there was no car available for me. But, if I wanted to upgrade to a larger car they had those. I couldnt spend more than my budget so was made to wait 1 hour. After an hour, I asked for a car once again and was told there was nothing they could do and to go somewhere else. Last minute bookings are expensive at other agencies so I couldnt do that. Finally, the man who told me to wait an hour was back and told me he would get me a car. With the rudest attitude he finally got me a car. This was happening to every other person who had booked a car that day. They were trying to get people to upgrade to larger cars by telling us all there were no compact cars available. Go to another rental service, these people are terrible and I would never give them my business again.
I will never ever rent with Dollar again. I already had a very bad experience early July at LAX . :1h45mns in line after an 11h flight. Employees did not seem to care, they were so slow I thought I was in the Zootopia movie, no kidding. They barely looked at you when collecting datas. They try to charge you as much as they can ans since you are tired after the flight and unlimited line you dont want to argue too long. And you end up prepaying the gas since it is supposed to be cheaper with Dollar...which is not.In SFO the line was 45mn still a bit long but acceptable. The big news is coming now : they told me that if you want to return the car with full tank (and not prepay gas at their rates) you MUST buy gas inside the airport perimeter and show a receipt proving you did buy inside the airport.Dollar is a thieves company with poor pre rent process (I rent a third car during my trip, I had a reservation with Avis and they had this digital check in which was really helpful) and slow employees .And I spare you the discussion about the size of the car I chose which was obviously too small.NEVER EVER AGAIN
PSA: Never use dollar rental for your rental car. I picked up the car at San Jose airport, and instead of returning it at the time and day I initially said, I need to return it two days earlier at San Francisco international (only 45 minutes away). In order for me to do this, I need to pay a ‘very reasonable’ $4,000 more than the initial amount in my contract! This is triple the total of the contract, FOR TWO DAYS LESS!! Needless to say I’ll ensure the hours of going back and forth, rather than pay this unbelievable fee. Do yourself a favor, never use #dollarrental.
Really poor service. Booked a car reservation and called ahead of time and was told there were no issues in getting vehicle. There is a two hour wait to get a vehicle. They told me I could get a vehicle right now if I paid an extra $35/per day. Seems to me that this place is a scam. You should be free upgrading people for their rentals that reserved.
Horrible service and FRAUDULENT at best.We made an original mystery car rental 4 weeks ago with Dollar Car Rental in SFO. In the booking it fully states a free additional driver is included, along with sales and tourism taxes. It is also a mystery vehicle that would comfortably seat 5 people and 3 suitcases. When we showed up to the desk very late in the evening for our pickup, we were given a pickup truck for 4 people, with no room to safely secure our suitcases. We then had to upgrade on the spot. They also would not provide the additional driver for free, as per what was advertised - stating that it was not their issue there were discrepancies on the third party payment platform. Lastly, they will try to upsell a $59 unlimited toll pass for the week, which really isnt necessary if you arent intending to drive a lot while in town. They took a $289.95 USD booking and made it $754.59 USD... we could have easily found a new booking for under $500 USD with a premium rental company!BEWARE AND STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT A SMOOTH TRIP!!!!!!!
Terrible experience with Dollar at SFO airport! Had to wait over two hours for the car to be ready which ate into our rental time which they wouldn’t reimburse us for. The staff were rude to pretty much every customer. Some people had waited more than three hours! The whole thing was a nightmare!
HORRIBLE experience. I booked my rental vehicle online and when I got there the agent asked me to upgrade for only 15 per day difference. I agreed and when i returned the vehicle i noticed the upgrade was for $55. I spoke to the lady who assisted me when I picked up and said there was nothing she could do. That there was a misunderstanding and now i was stuck with paying twice the amount i thought I was paying for the car rental… I was so upset but all I got was there is nothing we can do. NEVER renring from here again ..
Avoid renting here no matter the price. Awful business practices with ridiculously long waits for cars (they are renting cars that they dont have); lack of accountability; unscrupulous attempts to up-sell. Completely avoid Dollar, Thrifty and parent company Hertz. My wife waited 2+ hours AFTER waiting in line at the rental counter.
Arrived July 2nd 3:45 pm, roughly a dozen people in line. No line for express members, thumbs up on that.Unfortunately, need to wait 3-4 hours to get a car. Went to Hertz instead. At that time, there were 50 -100 people waiting in line for Avis/Budget. So they are actually okay.
Too bad I cant leave 0 stars. On 7/26 I arrived at around 8:30pm and approached the Dollar Car Rental counter with about 40 people in front of me just to spend the next 4 HOURS waiting for a vehicle that I booked days in advance. After reaching the counter you were told to wait longer because there were no more vehicles left. Mind you this is a Tues evening. I finally left there at 1am the next day with a car Dollar car rental got from Hertz...NEVER AGAIN!
Not transparent at all in their prices. Lots of hidden fees and taxes we had to pay in addition to the initial booking. Insurances are overpriced. Charged us USD 9.99 per gallon refueling needed when returning the car, after telling us we got a discount on it.Makes me think of their slogan We never forget whose dollar it is -- it was mine and now its theirs.
Crazy long line at pickup. Waited for over an hour which was a total bummer. Car did alright for most of the trip and then overheated on our return into SF. It’s a virtually brand new Chevy (that probably explains it) but when I looked under the hood it was almost out of coolant. Fail for Dollar.
Not really excited about having to wait 2 hours in line to pick up my car. The fact that the line was a major impediment to our planned activities that typically take 30 minutes or so at the other chains. I will go out of my way to spend more money elsewhere because of how poorly this is run.
HORRRIFIC,!!!Arrived at SFO on July 02/2022, went to rental booth at approx 1230pmArrived to a line that a Thrifty/Dollar customer agent was walking around stating from where you are at in line will be about 2.5hrs to reach an agent PLUS an additional 2.5 hr min, average 4 hrs after checking in..REASON- As per dollar management its not our fault we dont have cars!!! WRONG WRONG WRONG, IT IS TOUR COMPANIES FAULT.Whats even worse NO accommodations based on the ADA! W, just there to make excusesill be putting in a formal complaintManagers have NO interest in accommodations just excuse making
Do not rent with them regardless of the price!! This is our second experience with Dollar at SFO. The first time we waited over a hour, after checking in at counter, for our car even though there were multiple cars available and workers just roaming about. This was pre Covid 2018.The second time most recently, Feb 2022, was again a painful counter experience and now we are receiving multiple Toll Fees with $15 administration fees per toll with multiple billings. These are approaching our total rental fee in cost. They are scammers, AVOID DOLLAR!!
I had a terrible experience renting from Dollar Car rental. The line was 2 hours long to get in, and when I finally got my turn the employees were more focused on upselling me insurance than getting me out of there with a car. It wasnt worth it for either time or money! If youre looking for an affordable option while travelling abroad make sure you dont rent from them-- go somewhere else instead!
Was lied to and cheated. Ordered car on Priceline. Picked it up and declined insurance. Was told I was all set. Shame on me for not reading the entire contract, and shame on them for bold faced lying two times. My $424 rental ended up costing over $700 when I returned it. They refused to reimburse me any difference and insisted I was the liar. By the way, the woman who serviced us gets commission for every up sale. Well done Dollar. Never again.
The worst car rental experience of my life and ive rented dozens of times from other companies by far this was the worst i had my rental set up months before showing up which i did through Expedia like i ALWAYS do everything seemed fine the ppl were nice enough until i checked my credit card and realized that this company charged me TWICE making my car rental go from with fees and everything 1700 to $3,000 for a two week rental!!!!Tried calling couldnt get a hold of an actual human being for almost 45 mins women on the phone told me they couldnt help and to see the ppl when I dropped off the rental... well my bf called got someone to figure out the issue when he was added as a second driver they charged my card all over again...problem was fixed until i look at my account and see a charge of a lil over 1500 from Dollar called theyre suppose to give me my refund from charging me WAY TOO MUCH yeah well see if no well be calling my credit company hell well take it to court i have all the statements time and dates we returned the car in MINT condition inside and out full tank of gas and everything....WORST COMPANY EVER
I booked through a third party and when I called dollar the first time I was hung up on and the second time I called I was put on a wild goose hunt. If you are going to allow for a third party to book at a certain time but then youre not going to honor that time slot it is very unprofessional and terrible customer service.I rent with Dollar because they are always reasonably priced and up until now have not had any problems with customer service.Another dock on stars was the fact that the change oil light came on with 7% oil remaining and the breaks squeaked.
I had to write a review after my second experience here! I booked a buick but the agent at counter said its not available. Offered me a car below the size. Also tried to sell toll pass....a complete scam. I had a similar experience with these guys in past. This second time I had booked another car at Alamo....so I just walked away and picked up car at Alamo. The agent at Alamo said that toll is automatically charged at price...no need for toll pass!! Will never go to Dollar at this airport!
Seemed disingenuous, attempted to declined insurance and ended up with 120 dollars in that. Asked how to head tools, was told there would be no problem and would be invoiced for the toll amount without the information that there would be an additional 60 dollars in administration fees for 3 tolls. The car was fine but a little dirty, the experience was okay just felt a little disingenuous.
Absolutely one of the worst experiences in my life to rent a car. The line was out of the rental car facility. Waited on line for 1.5 hours. Why do they not have more staff for the demand in orders for that day? Lesson learned: pay more for a better experience and to save on time.
I rented a car in Dollar rent a car SFO international airport thru Priceline. I thought I had made a good deal when I signed my agreement with priceline, two weeks before my family trip. when arrived to Dollar I ex[plained the situation to the gentleman behid the counter and he said yes everything is set and ready for you. He asked if I would to take Insurance and I said no he asked if I woul like to take the fuel purchase option and I said yes but didnt know what it really meant. The short story is that when I Received my final bill there was a FBO charge for $94.25 equivalent to 2 tanks of gas when the car had more than half when I returned it back. I had to pay for a Concession Fee Recovery which I have no idea what it is for $ 40.59 I had paid $39 dollars to priceline for Collision damage and then i was charged $119.97 on my final invoice. +++I contracted with Priceline for $329.71 all inclusive total price, and I ended paying $605.37. Surprise, Surprise !! Be careful with all the undercovered extras and charges!!
I have never posted a review but what a scam. I (along with 10 other customers on line) had made a reservation for a car. I come to the window and overhear the next teller telling their customer that it will be 2-3 hours to get their car. When asked, our teller states it will also be 3 hours to get our car and I tell him we have rented a convertible and not the same car as the other customer. He then tells me there are no cars in the lot and so we will be placed on a waitlist, with no guarantee of getting the car we booked, or any car for that matter, but would have to wait a minimum of 3 hours. This is unacceptable- why make a reservation and pay to book a car. The tellers then tell us that we have to call the rental agencies to cancel (they won’t do it for us). Btw thrifty and dollar are the same company (under hertz)
Do not give them your money!! They dont even deserve one star. Im a pretty passive person, but Im so appalled in Dollar Car Rentals service that Im leaving my first negative review ever.My flight to the SFO airport was delayed, so I called Dollar Car Rental to let them know. After bouncing my call around for at least 45 minutes, they told me not to worry theyll hold the car for me. The counter at SFO closes at 10pm. I arrived at the counter at 10:13pm, and no one was there. After running around the airport in disbelief, trying to find someone to help me, I finally order an Uber to a nearby hotel. The next morning, I ordered another uber back to the airport (bart wasnt available in the area the hotel was at). The person at the counter was so rude to me before I even tried to talk to them about what had happened the night before. When I finally did tell them they responded with well people usually just dont show up..... But I had called to let them know I was coming! And I was only late by 13 minutes! The whole reason for renting the car was to help move a friend across country, and we would have left the night I arrived in SF. Because I had to pick up the car later than expected I had extend my trip. When I asked the customer service representative about not charging me for an extra day since I paid to have the car the day they stranded me in the airport, they told me I had to call after the car has been returned to get reimbursed for the first day. After dropping the car off I realized I left my camera lens in the glove compartment. I tried to call several times and I filled out a lost item form online. Not a word. Ive tried reaching out, again, several times about this whole experience and I cant get ahold of anyone to help me. I get hung up on after being on hold for a while, Ive sent many emails, no reply. At this point I want to be reimbursed for the hotel, the ubers, the first day, my lens, preferably the entire awful experience but we all know that wont happen.Their prices may look good, but youll end up paying more in the long run.
Waited in line for almost two hours to rent a car. There were only two attendants working behind the counter and line was massive. I rented from Avis the week before and the customer service surpassed Dollar by leaps and bounds. Won’t ever use Dollar/Thrifty service after this experience at SFO!
Just dont. Waited 90+ minutes even though we had a car reserved. The line wasnt even that long. We paid up front through Expedia but the manager tried to charge us twice for everything, spent 15 minutes trying to prove to him that we already paid until he finally took it off. Just pay the extra for Enterprise, its not worth it.
Waited for two hours to check in, and am now waiting another hour to pick up our rental car. I would not wish this car rental nightmare on my worst enemy. Don’t make the same mistake that I did, along with the many, many others waiting here with me. Avoid at all costs.
The worst, car was great but the sticker shock of not paying what you were quoted went from 78 to 208 and didnt make sense no receipt or email final and return was fast but scary because you have no idea if the car made it back, they could really improve on their communications. Im sure thats why a short line took 25 mins to get thru. Everyone had questions.
NEVER EVER USE THIS PLACE! Have waited an hour and a half in line still haven’t made it to the counter. There were 4 employees at the counter when we started now there’s 3. This is terrible terrible customer service. They are wasting time asking customers questions to upgrade vehicles, get different packages, etc You should be seeking to please your customers with timely delivery of your product this company is not.
Hour long wait. I think this was due to not enough staff, but we saw all the staff members rotating in and out of the help desks.EDIT- we waited an hour, and then were told the car we reserved wasnt available. We opted for a smaller one, because the other option was to be charged more money for an upgrade we didnt want.
Thank you for a great experience dollar rentals. I was a bit nervous after reading some of the not so positive reviews that can report that I had a very good experience from the moment I stood in line to the moment I returned the vehicle after the rental period was done. The gentlemen behind the counter was extremely helpful and friendly and despite their being a bit of a hiccup he was able to sort out the issue quickly and effectively. The car I had hired was not in stock so they gave me an upgrade at no extra cost and I found myself and my partner very quickly on our way out of the San Francisco Airport.
TOTAL NIGHTMARE!!! Upon rental pickup there was a major language barrier making it difficult to understand what was being said. The guy asked if i wanted a Nissan before even sayin that would be an upgrade ($15/day). Once i caught the additional pricing and confirmed they were trying to upsell,i declined.Once receiving the car and on our way from the airport,my boyfriend put the window down and heard a loud screech. Something was scraping the middle of the glass everytime he put the window up or down. When we got to our location and he tried to get out of the door,it didnt even open! We unlocked manually and automatically, even looked for a child safety lock (on the front passenger door) and nothing. So the whole week of rentin the car,we had to open a screechin window and reach outside or the driver had to open the passenger door. For drop off,it was explained nobody will be at the desk since its after hours and to leave the keys on the counter at Hertz on level 1. I didnt see any drop box and even asked an airport employee if he knew where to leave keys. I put them on the Hertz counter by the car options and left to catch my plane. After gettin home from a full day of travels,i listen to a voicemail statin they see the car parked but are unable to locate the keys. I called back and left my name and number with a lady and didnt hear anymore. I checked my bank account and saw a $48 and $49 charge from Dollar. I called customer service and got thru to somebody who checked my rental agreement and saw it hasnt been closed. I explained the call about the lost keys. She said i did as told and shouldnt be charged so she made notes on how the drop off occured and emailed the location manager to close the account. 10 minutes later,i was called from a private number and asked about the keys (which was all in notes on the email), then was told they smelled a strong smoke odor and i will be charged $400 (yet how can they smell smoke without keys to get inside). By the end of the conversation,i was told they will check cameras to see what happened and be called bck later that day. Three days after returnin the car,im still gettin charged $50 daily because they are unable to locate the keys and i am unable to get ahold of anybody. Total scam here and will nvr be using dollar car rental again!!!
First - They tried really hard to sell us extra insurance, insurance that we already payed for when we booked the car online trough another company.Second - They said that we could return the car with an empty tank, because a full tank was included in the price. They lied. We had to pay for a full tank when we returned the car. A cost that would have been less expensive if we had refilled the car ourselves.Third - The worst one - The same evening as we returned the car I, of an accident really, looked at the receipt we got when we left and then realized that we had been charged for an extra day of renting. 40 dollar extra, even though or booking clearly stated what time to return the car and so we did with a 25 minutes margin. So why the extra charge? We had booked the car from 10 am and showed up 35 minutes earlier. Why would anyone want to be late for that? New in a city its hard to estimate the time to get to the right place, will there be any queues? etc. And with the fear of showing up to late and lose your car.. well you want to have some extra time. And for the record, we didnt sat in the car until 15-20 minutes later. Anyway. Apparently by being early we started our renting, while standing behind the desk to be exact, without any notice. And therefore they also changed our return time to 9.25, still without any notice. So when we showed up at 9.35, because our online rental agreement said that we needed to be back with the car by 10, we were actually 10 minutes late. You think they could have mentioned this while we returned the car? No, no. We had to find out ourselves. Great thing when they already have your card details, they could just do anything they like really, charge you a little bit extra without you knowing. Perhaps 40 dollar extra for 10 minutes. As I said to the lady I later spoke to one the phone while demanding my 40 dollars back You really think that we would have been 10 MINUTES late if we knew that our return time got changed!? Thankfully I got my money back. But she made sure to remind me that they now know who I am, so If I ever rent a car from them again.... What a great service. Thank god the car wasnt as bad as all the above.A reminder - Dont forget to be suspicious about everything they say, and dont say! They dont have to tell you anything if its already written in their company agreements. Even if it cost you extra.
We had a great experience with Dollar Car Rental at SFO. Despite the many customers in the queue, we were handled quickly, courteously and professionally. The car was clean and ready to go. Upon returning the car to SFO I was unable to fill up as I agreed. Azade did us a solid and did not charge us the full price for fuel. I will use Dollar again.
I have been renting from Dollar Rent a Car for the last 7 years. My experiences have been great. I found the customer services in the recent 3 years were better than before. The staffs that handled the rentals were less pushy recommending extra coverages. I have rented from SUV, luxury sedan, to compacts like Prius. The vehicles were all satisfactory. I will continue to rent from Dollar next time I am on vacations. The reason I did not give a 5 stars is the price. Though they are competitive with other rental companies, it is still too high for me.
Great service. I rented a vehicle at San Francisco International and drove off. A few miles away I had issues with getting the Bluetooth portion of the radio to work. Understandedly a silly reason to bring a car back, but I did anyway. The worker at the car return was very helpful pointing me to the booth who could help me. The folks there were great. The listened, let me know I was not the only one who struggled with that model. They offered to help me or switch the vehicle. I took them up on the new vehicle in less than 15 minutes and was on my way. A happy, satisfied customer. I will be back with Dollar again.
Fala, a rep at the counter was the most spirited friendly and helpful rent-a-car agent I have ever worked with in 8 years of renting cars. She definitely made an inconvenience turn into a nice and happy experience. Maybe it was because it was Christmas but she helped my family save money and even gifted us a gift card to Starbucks. She did everything she could to help us including getting a manager to secure the lowest rate. I highly recommend working with her, you will have a pleasant experience and leave smiling.
We had a great experience with Dollar Rent a Car at SFO. We were able to pick up our car quickly and had no issues with the car we received. When my boyfriend forgot his wallet in the car after we had returned it, Herman the manager was more than helpful. Overall, a great experience!
I needed a bare bones car rental with no frills, good customer service and no gimmicks. They tried to upsell me on insurance but I said no thanks and they left it at that. They tried to upgrade me for free to a bigger car, but I said no thanks because I needed a small commuter car with good gas mileage. Again, they werent pushy - very polite and got me taken care of quickly. It took me a while to find the place where the car actually was on a lower level because I went to the wrong floor, but I think thats just part of being in a big airport. You get lost sometimes. Brought it back with a full tank of gas and I paid exactly what the estimate was for 4 days, about $80. Good experience and I would definitely rent from them again.
TL;DR This place lies to you, charges you extra, then tries to blame you. Look at the reviews on Yelp, they are scamming lots of people. Reporting them to the FTC.Last year, over an hour wait to get a car. This years wait (12/23) was short, but they dont have the car type we reserved, which I know happens and that was ok. But the service desk then lies and says theyll give us a different car type for no additional charge or we could sit and wait for the original car type we booked. The service agent then starts talking quiet and says she could even save us money by us taking this other car type. I thought, its Christmas they want to get rid of specific car types that people arent renting and I was fine taking anything as there were just two of us. We verified with the employee by showing her our original charge via email ~$530 and she said yep, you will save around $200. She pointed out a total cc authorization on our new receipt of ~$360 and said that would be our end price paid and we would get a refund because we had prepaid more than that. When we returned the car, they wanted to charge us $167 beyond our original charge for the upgrade we took. We went back to the service desk and was told to see the manager, Rosaria (or a name similar to this) at the office in the garage. Went to the garage and asked for Rosaria the manger and a male employee said You can deal with me. Asked again for a manager and he repeated You can deal with me. Never gave us his name or said he was a manager. When we discussed our issue with this male employee he very rudely said it was our fault and we should of checked our bill or should of verified this rate with multiple employees. When I told him that was BS he said lots of customers do this. I told him I was following up with this and asked for his name and he refused to give us his name or a business card. He said he could knock the extra charge in half then at the end of the conversation said he was only authorized to take off $75 of the $167.I guess we fell for a typical bait and switch. Shady employees at a shady company. Dont give them your business. If you have no choice, make sure to verify everything on your receipt with multiple employees as the manager suggested /s Ill update this if I get a response. If this isnt resolved, reporting them to the FTC and disputing the charges on my credit card as this is a total scam being ran at this location. Look at the reviews on Yelp, they are scamming people left and right by lying to them or adding charges to their receipt without telling them.UPDATE: Their customer service said because I signed a contract they will do nothing. They lied, mislead me, and misrepresented the contract to steal money. Submitting a report to the FTC and I suggest you do the same if they scam you.
I cant even believe I am giving 1 star. I highly suggest that anyone seeks out a different car company before going through Dollar or Dollar Express. I am an extremely well-travelled individual and this was by far the worst customer service and company service that I have ever encountered. We landed in San Francisco with our 4 month old baby to visit my grandmother. After a long flight, we were excited to pick up our car and get going to see my family. We figured this would be a simple process. As we proceeded to the car rental, Dollar Rentals had by far the longest line. There were only two people at the counter, who frequently took turns to take their break and go to the back. As we saw the lines in at the other car rental companies quickly go down, we stood there for 3 long, frustrating hours. When it was finally our turn, the employee was extremely rude and discourteous. It seemed as if we were almost a nuisance to him. He then stopped explaining the car insurance to us to talk to a different customer (who I assume was a frequent customer or a friend) because they were talking casually and laughing- I was definitely not in a joking mood by any means after waiting for 3 hours for our vehicle. When I asked a question about the car insurance he said for me to just sign here and I can be on my way. However, he had no problem asking if I wanted to upgrade to a more fun car- which I quickly declined.I will say that the lady who helped us at the Sacramento airport, where we dropped off our car was very friendly and apologetic for the service we received in San Fran and said she had received several complaints about that airport.
Avoid !!!Booked my SUV car 2 months in advance and after arrival it was not ready. They offered me a different car, so I could not get where I would have in a SUV. As it was booked through rentalcars Dollar decided to charge me as well. So I had to pay twice. It was in April and it’s July now and they haven’t refunded my Money yet. I would never use this company again.
Great rate on a Dollar Rental Car- got a new Ford Taurus with black leather interior with only 321 miles on it. Left my camera in the car at return and Dollar/Hertz Lost and Found was VERY HELPFUL and had my camera returned to me via Fed Ex at a reasonable shipping cost within 5 days! SFO is extremely busy so expect a short wait when you get there.
From start to end, I had a horrible experience with Dollar.I arrived 10 minutes after my scheduled pick up time to be told that there was no car ready for me and I would have to wait another 2 to 3 hours. I obviously wasnt impressed with this and was forced to kill time when I had plans that required a vehicle. It finally arrived 2 1/2 hours later and half my day was already gone and wasted. Then when I returned the car I filled it up 3 blocks down and when the guy who took the car in assessed it he said I would have to pay for the fuel that was missing and just charged it to my card. I told him not to charge it as we just filled up but he said it was too late and had already put it thorough. I was furious, he didnt even tell me anything, just charged me $17 for fuel I shouldnt have to pay for. So I had to waste more time driving back to the gas station to fill it again with a dribble of fuel and return it to get my $17 refunded. This organisation is highly unprofessional and I will never use them again.
Renting the car itself was a great experience. However trying to recover my dual car charger adapter which I left in the cigarette lighter has been a challenging experience. I called and a representative advised that the best way to report a lost and found item is by reporting it on the website, which I did the day after I returned my car rental at SFO. The following day, I submitted an online inquiry and now, four days later, I still have not gotten a response.
I am a Dollar Express member. It always use Dollar at SFO. I bypass the lines and waits (past the cussing long line of Hertz customers) and simply walk up to my vehicle, show my ID, and drive away. The staff are always friendly, and the car is always in top shape at a good price. I was once a member of the Hertz #1 Club and found that I was charged a HIGHER rate than other customers at Hertz as a thank you: for my loyalty. Maybe their policy has changed, I dont know, as I have remained loyal to Dollar since my switch several years ago. At Dollar, as an Express Member, they always give me the best price and respect my time.
Found a reasonable price online for a 5 day rental of an SUV for $126. When we arrived a the desk, the agent was charging me $298 on top of my existing voucher for random assorted fees, taxes, liability, coverage. Despite this we tried to come to a compromise by downgrading the type of car and she said she could not help because it was prebooked. If it was prebooked then why are there still so many fees? I KNOW that many of these so called fees are optional and we insisted we wanted to opt out and she said that we couldnt. To her credit she gave us a discount but it still came to $238 and we were not prepared for this and we felt totally blindsided and misled. So we walked away and didnt get our car.I am contesting the charges now with the booking service that we used. When booking cars know that many charges are optional. Stand firm on the arrangement and dont let them sweet talk (force) you into these extras.
If you ever decide to rent a vehicle warning search elsewhere. When I arrived (7/19/18) from the east coast I sure didnt experience FRIENDLY CUSTOMER SERVICE . The female that was there had a disgusting attitude when asked a simple question .BTW she reminded of the cartoon character from Monsters Inc with how she represented herself. When I returned the vehicle (7/25/18)I left my wallet and didnt realize it until checking in . So I rushed back to see if someone could assist me. Of which for one I was told by the person receiving the car they didnt keep the keys. Secondly the manager called downstairs where supposedly the vehicle was being cleaned at, was told it wasnt in there after arguing with him that it fell in between the seats multiple times. I even asked him if I could go with him to check myself he said I cant the car has been rented out . Let me just say it was an awful experience that I ended up missing my flight, lost my ID all credit cards , along with my kids ID . As many may know you have to undergo verification process . The main point here is that theres NO HOSPITALITY OR POLITENESS.
Absolutely horrible experience through Dollar rental. I requested specifically an AWD vehicle, at the airport after a really long waiting line, I was told that there is only one option available, and that its a new car and I ended up paying extra 90 dollars for insurance (usually its $17 for Liability insurance, but since this was a new car I had to pay $32 per day insurance). This is not the case with other rental agencies that I took the car from before. Nobody charges extra for insurance because its a new car.I still took the car, and later when I turned on the AWD, the car continuously made a knocking noise until I turned it off.I reported this to Dollar, and after hours of talking with them, they couldnt even give a 100% guarantee that I would be getting a replacement AWD car even after going to San Jose(I was in Big Sur at the time). So they were asking me to try my luck driving back all the way up and hope I get one. If they didnt have one, just say that they dont have one.The last guy I spoke to on the phone was rude and unprofessional. I ended up driving that risky car through the mountains which occasionally made that knocking noise even in FWD option. I was in a hilly area, with no network coverage, in case anything went wrong with the car, who would have helped me through the mess? This had to be the worst car rental experience I ever had.And I had to continue with this, because it was already paid in advance.
Two parts to this. The car we had, a Toyota Corolla was good, clean and reliable for over 2500 miles travelling around West America and California. Pick up and drop off is easy. However the service and fees like others have said were misled and mis-sold to us. We were asked only if we wanted to pre pay for fuel which we accepted, and no other offers were asked for us. The guy said our estimate would he $300 inc. a deposit and got me to sign which I did after a 10 hour flight and having been awake for 24 hours. What I didnt realise was he fraudulently added on Personal Accident/Effects and Premium Roadside Service which at no point was I, or my partner offered and had we been offered, would have declined. We decided to bring this up at return of the rental and the manager was called down and could only say you signed for it. He seemed unable to comprehend that you cant agree to something that you were not offered even going so far to accuse me as lying to him claiming I probably was offered it. Fortunately due to British persistence, wit and a higher intellect to this Californian jerk he realised I wasnt going to give up and drop this so he very reluctantly reimbursed the add ons we didnt ask for.If you use this company please double and triple check what theyve put on your estimated bill and make sure they dont try this trick adding on extras you werent offered to you.
Dont believe in the agents at this office. I booked a car through online by reasonable price. My English was not fluently so the Indian agent guy try to surcharge to change my original contract. I have to pay about twice of my original contract. The experience was suck. Dont try the scam to customers anymore.
This was by far the worst car rental experience Ive ever had. They try to sneak in extra fees. They charged me an extra day and changed my underage driver fee from $25 per day to $28. When I brought this to the employees attention, she said well that would only be a $20 dollar difference. They also charged my credit card $100 more than the invoice said. The staff is friendly until you ask to speak to a manager and than they get very frustrated and tell you that managers very busy. After waiting 30 minutes to speak to a manager we had to leave to catch our flight. I would never recommend this car company to anyone, go elsewhere its not worth the hassle.- Disgruntled customer.
We booked on the website a car for 160$ then, at the airport the lady gave me a bill of 500$... After asking to remove the additional products that she forced me to take, we ended up with a 459$ bill. I would understand to have a higher price because of the under-age fee but that more that 3 times the price and we made the trip all the way from downtown SF to the Airport. We called the customer support service to see what was our option, the two people we had didnt care at all about our problem and told us that they couldnt do anything for us.We decided to drop off the car the next morning in LA and figure out another way to move around the city.
Signed up for their rewards program to get express check in and things could not have gone more smoothly. Bypassed 45 min check in line and went straight out to my car. Rate was 1/2 what Hertz wanted, car was in perfect condition, service was excellent. I will use them again whenever I am in the Bay Area.
Terrible experienceWe expected to save a few dollars going with this company but totally regretted it.1. The line was terrible. EVERY other rental company had 1-2 people, and Dollar had 20+. It took an hour to get our car.2. They over-charged us $150+ because we returned the car 12 hours EARLY. They said it violated the rental agreement and charged us a non-discounted rate.3. I wrote the company to dispute the over-charge and never even received a reply.Never again, Dollar!
Last month we rented from Dollar. As we were staying on the other side of the Golden Gate we crossed it a total of 4 times. I believe the toll is $8, which cannot be paid at the bridge - they bill it to the car license plate. So, as expected, Dollar tells us we owe them $32. AND, $60. The $60 is the “administrative fee” for the State billing Dollar and Dollar sending in the money. The chance this is entirely automated (electronic bill from the State and electronic automatic payment from Dollar) should be 100%.This information may be in the rental fine print. Should the agent have explained to someone renting a car in SF that there is a big administrative charge every time you cross the Golden Gate?? Is driving on the Golden Gate something people do when they rent a SF car??This is a Devious way to jack up their fees. We called them to find out why this costs so much. They wouldn’t say beyond it’s in the fine print (under the heading Rip Off?)
I am a mom who was alone with my toddler, and the Dollar employees were so kind and helpful! From an upgrade to a bigger car (a brand new Subaru Impreza!) to a ride directly to the terminal at drop off, they really went above and beyond to take care of us. Unlike other rental car companies, they didnt try to sell me things I didnt need, but rather informed me of my options and asked questions to figure out if I would need to purchase the daily toll coverag based on my travel plans. It was the best rental car experience Ive ever had. Thank you, SFO Dollar employees! Youre the best!
I actually had a very pleasant experience. Although, the agent tried to up-sell me, he was incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable. When I tried to call Dollar to extend my reservation, it was not really clear that I would NOT be charged an extra day if I brought back within the 24 hour time period. Nonetheless, check out was seemless.Thank you for a positive experience.Loving energy,Genevieve
We booked a car with them online. When we arrived to the office, the company officer told us about 2 mandatory insurances of about 32USD per day of rental. The price of the insurance was 500$, which is more than a year car insurance for just a car rental insurance. The insurance was mandatory, not optional. The insurance was more expensive than the car rental, plus the agent who attended us was VERY rude.Completely disappointed! I will never book with Dollar again. I rented cars in more than 10 countries and thats my worse experience by far.
I was fraudulently charged $400 cleaning fee for smoking, I dont smoke nor does anyone I know. I dont know how they can do this, and trying to get any help with the matter is an all day event, without any success. This company is totally running a scam on its customers. Beware, of Hertz, the mother company of dollar. Completely unsatisfactory service. Will continue to try and get this solved.
Return lane guy was super rude. Asked me if I filled the car up. No, I didn’t. The car was driven exactly 50 miles. Then tried to question me where exactly the gas stations were. Then he said “you’ll remember where the gas stations are next time.” Never had this kind of treatment returning a car. Even Fox rental car wasn’t as rude as this guy.
I usually don’t write reviews but I had a horrible experience at this location. Apparently they accept credit cards but weren’t able to process my card because it was chip card neither could they do anything to manually enter the credit card information so I wasn’t able to pick up a rental car even with a reservation for which I provided my card details. The guys up front were also very rude to other customers who did not upgrade to a “better” car. Would not recommend!!
We specifically booked an AWD car online for Yosemite for 1 week. We checked with customer service the insurance rates and were told 17$. But when we reached, they charged us 31$ per day saying its a brand new car. We still paid that and went to Yosemite/lake Tahoe and found AWD is not working. There were no fog lights either. I will definitely not recommend using it.
The manager Alex had a terrible attitude and charged me an additional $50 that was removed from my receipt (printed) after I left. The car was fine Alot of hidden fees ! Other attendants tried to help and were fine . The guy at drop off checking the car was courteous af
Here are all the terrible things that happened when I rented from Dollar at the San Francisco airport:1. When we arrived in San Francisco, we had to wait for over 2 hours to get to the counter. The counter was understaffed, and Dollar was the only car service that had this issue.2. When we finally got to the counter, there was no apology for our wait from the Dollar employee (his name was Wilmar). He also had his own side conversation, delaying our service further after we had already waited for 2 hours.3. While paying for our vehicle, we said we wanted the minimum insurance. When we went to sign we were presented with optional insurance so we asked about it. The Dollar representative told us these payments were mandatory in California, so we signed for them. He then asked us if we wanted to fill the tank when we returned, or do prepaid fuel. We told him we would fill up the tank, but he charged us for prepaid fuel without our knowledge. We filled up the tank, so we paid for fuel twice because he didnt inform us he charged us.4. When we overheard a different representative tell a customer the insurance we had been told was mandatory was in fact optional, we went to a different representative to ask about it. He refused to answer our questions, and dismissed us from the line.5. We were charged an additional $300 total because we were lied to about what was mandatory and what wasnt.6. I called customer service two weeks ago listing all these grievances and was told my complaints are under review and I still have not heard back.
Great service, awesome customer service and overall wonderful experience. Got a free upgrade but did not need such a big car and they gladly gave a me great eco car. BEST gas saver I’ve driven. Prompt payment was received and just overall great would highly recommended.
We took a deal in Expedia that the car was included, we found out at the office we have to pay a larger amount than what Expedia was showing in addition to gas and insurance. They have no sence of customer service. I dont recommend them. They encourage people to choose pricey cars or insurance which is a base to any car rentals. Be careful and dont believe any deals you see.
Avoid this place at all cost! The clue of their primary objective is in the name of the company.I am fortunate to have considerable experience of renting cars throughout the USA and also from other companies at San Francisco Airport. Usually the agent on the desk will try to obtain more money from you by offering an upgrade deal. The practices at Dollar Car Rental at San Francisco Airport however go well beyond this. If I had not been wise to the desk agents scams, it would have cost me a lot of money. On arrival at Dollar we were greeted by an over friendly agent, who as usual immediately offered me his upgrade deal, which I politely declined. He then went through my booking and informed me that we were not fully insured. This would therefore cost me more money. This was a lie. At the time of making the booking through a holiday company, I had checked that maximum cover was included. I told him this and he proceeded to turn his computer screen that was full of information so I could see it and pointed to 2 boxes that were not ticked, claiming these were for insurance. I stood my ground and realising he wasnt getting anywhere, he tried a different approach - I see this is a one way rental and the vehicle is being returned in Nevada. I confirmed this was the booking and he then stated that ‘the additional driver was only permitted drive in California...unless we paid more dollar.’ Anotherlie. I refused to accept this, checked with the holiday company and they confirmed the additional driver could drive in any state. Strangely, by now he was much less friendly than when we arrived.I had booked a full size vehicle as normally this is perfectly adequate for a 2 week, 2000 mile road trip for 3 people and their luggage. Other rental companies usually include such as a Ford Fusion. My choice at Dollar however was a Daewoo or a Hyundai Sonata. With no other choice I reluctantly opted for the Hyundai. This proved to be underpowered and unsuitable for the trip. Other Dollar depots list this vehicle as mid and not full sized.I would advise renting vehicles through any of the other companies at San Francisco Airport. If you don’t, it could end up costing you a lot of Dollar.
Awful - Renter beware!! We made the reservation online. When we checked in (in a hurry since our plane was late) for the car and quickly signed - they added on all kinds of coverage that we did NOT request. We realized this when we returned the car and the price was more than DOUBLE!!!! They would not take the extra insurance coverages off either!! This was NOT what we reserved or asked for!!!! Dollar has quite a scam going on!! Dont rent from them!!
Car was almost brand new (Chrysler 300 with 800 miles) which was really great. Waiting line at pick up was crazy. We wasted over an hour. And once we were at the front of the line, the car was not ready and we waited another 30. Employee tried to do their best, but system sucks...
Never ever rent from these people. If they make a mistake they blame the customer, completely rude service. The woman behind the counter threatened to jump me! (As if) Then the manager came out and blamed the customer yet again. Id give them zero stars if I could. Go to Budget instead. Same prices, better cleaner cars, and much friendlier more helpful service.
Everything was fine until we turned the car in and I realized after about 5 minutes that I left some items in the back seat. When we went back to talk to someone the car was gone and no one had any idea where the car was. They just kept telling us that it would be in a number of different places and they have no idea where it could be. I talked with a manager and she pretty much said that they take no responsibility if their employees steel things out of the cars, there are no repercussions. So after about 2 hours waiting for them to find the car we finally decided to go catch our plane. Just as we were leaving one of the nice working from the garage area ran out to catch us letting us know they found our items. IF I use this company again I will definitely make sure I get everything out of the car.
A little upset with Dollar rental. When I was at the counter not one time did the representative tell me that there were a transponder in the car. I went over the Gg bridge and the Corporate office told me that I needed to inform them I was going to use it. I attempted to call them and let them know but I was on hold for 3 hours in our vacation. I went through the Gg bridge twice and should have paid $16.70 for the two trips but they stiffed me with $46.70. I even told the represnratkce that I was intending on going across the bridge multiple times and he did not inform me. Very poor instructions and information that was provided. When I got the charge I called the corporate office and got directed to there third party company who handles the tolls. Let me let you know they were rude as can be and I will for sure not use Dollar again by this experience. I have never received bad customer service and have been blessed but now I see why this place has 1.5 stars. Have a blessed day and don’t do business with them.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE with Dollar Rental Car at SFO Airport and is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. They charged us extra $177 as Additional Fees. When we asked them to explain they said it was due to the glitch in their system and sadly they were aware of it. They assured us to revert back the fee, but they cheated on us and charged us the extra amount. I wish I could give negative stars. NEVER AGAIN....Be careful!!!
We rented a Chevy Surburban at SFO. Check in was easy and the SUV was new and clean. When we returned it to LAX it became a nightmare. Took 45 minutes to get the shuttle to the airport. Dollar picks up at Thrifty first so we had to wait for the 4th shuttle that finally had enough room to get us on. And when you complained to the employees they just walked away. Just terrible and unprofessional.
Excellent service from, Ashley at the Dollar Car rental station. Not only did she give us great options (and recommendations) to help us personalize our ride but she also took the time to give us a map of the entire area and highlighted all of the best sights, restaurants and bars. Thanks, Ashley (and Dollar Car )! Also a big thanks to, Gerry at the Dollar Car pickup station (located in the garage). He helped us fix a major glitch in our car rental booking and he did it fast and efficiently with a smile on the entire time!
Very unhappy with my experience. The car they gave me broke down in the middle of Market St, in San Francisco at the height of rush hour, placing me and everyone around me in grave danger. I was eventually able to re-start the car, it stopped again, I was able to re-start and pull off the road, at which point, it would not re-start. Dollar sent another car, after about 2 hours, meaning I missed some special activities with friends on my vacation.
Be sure you check when you sign the rental agreement.I am still trying to figure HOW come we went from a $ 500-600 final charge- cost free upgrade, taxes and standard insurance!!- to more than $ 1,000 for a 4 day rental. Only as an exple..a 14.5 mins delay was charged as an hour.... no matter the delay to be accountable to the rental office while u reach the parking lot!!!!Outrageous
Beware of dishonest Dollar Rental Car agents - I was signed up for a $17.00/day Loss Damage Waiver charge that I never agreed to, which practically doubled my rental cost. I only realized this after my trip when I checked my bank account. Dollar is refusing to refund this charge, saying that I agreed to it (which I explicitly did not!).I am seemingly in a fight with the company now, which feels very bad. Right now I cannot recommend Dollar at all!
PLUSES (+)+ fast service+ good localization+ nice atmosphere+ good and tidy vehiclesMINUSES (-)- misleading with the full tank option. It was suggested that fuel in SF is cheaper than in LA (3,9$ - 4,3$), so I bought the opportunity to give up the empty tank- after returning a strange sudden lock on the credit card
Thank you for cleaning up after someone else mess.Reserved a car rental at SIXT and they tried the bait n switch on me. Good thing I planned ahead of time and got a back up at Dollar for an SUV. Dollar is the MVP.Want the beginning of this story? Visit the Sixt SFO airport review page,
I used Dollar rental for a Jehovahs witness convention. The vehicle was a great cjoice was able to accomodate my friends. Making the reservation was easy and worth while. They were able to upgrade me to an SUV (Explorer) for the same as an impala and I took the offer. The experience is great. Gas was expensive in the near SFO area was a very economy efficient vehicle. I enjoyed my experience with them. The customer svc center upon me initially calling to make the reservation completely explained everything like how much money was going to be deposited so I could prepare myself financially for the trip. I would most definitely recommend them
I got totally ripped of on my recent experience with Dollar rent a car, I ended up paying more than 6 times the amount Dollar informed me. Neither did I get the car I ordered and the customerservice was unbelievably arrogant and bad. I will NEVER rent from Dollar again, shame on you. If I could give you 0 stars I would.
I had originally booked a car rental through Orbitz for EZ car rental. The representative told me it would be at the San Francisco airport. I arrived at the San Francisco airport after midnight due to a delayed flight, only to find out that EZ car rental was not located at the airport, but they were also closed. Nick at Dollar Rent a Car was extremely understanding and incredibly helpful during such a difficult time. I dont usually write reviews, but the customer service I received from this gentleman deserves acknowledgement.
The Guy at Dollar just lied straight in our Face. We had already prepayed the car for 10 Days. He wrote all kinds of different insurances on the list, and said this is for the security deposit, just sign here. We were in a rush because we waited so long, so we didnt read properly. And he said we would not have to pay any of this if we bring it back with empty fuel. We ended up paying 270 Dollar extra for nothing but lies. How can somebody be so evil doing business!?
They charge your credit card four months after the trip without any email or mail notification about why to charge! I urged to state an explanation about what is the charge for, no answers~ I researched about peoples reviews on Dollar from Yelp, all bad reviews and complaints on this company, how I wish I had spare some time to do the research before the trip, with that I would definitely NOT choose this car rental company!
We do not recommend Dollar Rent A Car. The rate we were provided online, which stated fees and taxes included was incorrect. We thought we were renting for around $180 pre-insurance ($250 after) and after everything we paid $412. This amount was still higher than than the cost we were shown at the front desk.
NEVER AGAIN!!!! Charge me under age when they specially said over and over again that there would be no charges if you have a AAA. Once I called they said they would waive the fees and refund me. They didnt refund me called back 30 days after and they said they rejected it! NEVER Called me to tel me. AWFUL SERVICE! Disappointed customer. MAKE IT RIGHT! Your error and you blame me for it! MAKE IT RIGHT! I have reached out and you still have not done anything other than say that we didnt show proof of the AAA. We did and they said they didnt accept it. We are going in circles. Dont worry I will keep posting to ensure everyone doesnt go through what i went through. Make it right is all I am asking.
Even the booking process was ok the issue started from pick up. At the reception even though the booking clearly identified what I wanted and how much it was going to cost me the representative continuously telling me different totals which included either purchasing gas option or additional insurance or worry free toll option, etc. Next the process of picking up the key was pretty seamless but the car I got (Toyota Yaris) was horrible. I drove from SFO to LA and the car was making noise, shaking and so on. I was in the middle of nowhere so calling and getting a different car was not a viable option for me. Next on the day I returned the car at the SFO, as soon as I parked the lady name Susan comes by, take the key from me for checking the gas and the mileage. As I was waiting outside the car I asked her to unlock the car so that I can open the trunk to get my luggages out. She got out of the car and locked it with the key inside and looked at me like what happened. I was tired driving back from LA to SFO and she was like ok it happened so just wait till I get this resolved. No apology or anything like that. After waiting for a while a lady came trying to open the car and took another 15 mins to get it opened. Finally I got the paperwork from Susan and even that time she never said sorry for the inconvenience and to my surprise I was never asked as to how was the car, whether there were any issues with the car and whether I was happy or not with the rental and the service. I hope all of you know my answer. It was a horrible experience and obviously I was not happy at all with the service I have received from DOLLAR RENT A CAR. I will definitely think several times before renting from them again.
Not so happy with the service. The lady at the counter tell us to bring in a gas receipt from a gas station within 10 miles of the SFO! Why? Usually other company just tell you to fill her up to the same level as when you pickup the car?!?At the end call them to see if we can return to LAX but they just say no can not!?!? Why not?Try other company, I think you will be happier.
Never again. Both vehicles were very nice, however their agents lie to you about needing to purchase prepaid tolls and you get charged a foreign transaction fee because they use a third-party for billing from Dublin Ireland. Not user friendly at. Taboo to Dollar, they should change their names from Dollar to Cent, they wont get another one from me or anyone I can share my experience with.
SCAM SCAM SCAM!!! They have a lot of hidden fees. When its all said and done, you will end up paying more than you would have paid elsewhere. I declined their toll fee of $50 knowing I wouldnt incur that much tolls. I incurred about $35.00 in tolls, however, being money thugs theyre for a toll of $13.00 they have an administrative fee of $30. A toll of $20.00 has an administrative fee of $45.00. Dont make a mistake of renting from these guys . You will regret it! ABSOLUTE WORST !
The long wait inline was due in my opinion due to:1) Eight or more positions available at the counter and only two or three agents working, with more than 30 customers inline.2) Each agent was pressuring the customers to take a larger car and Insurance. 10 plus minutes or more for each customer!!! I overheard several conversations and they sound like used car salesmen. You need this, you be in great danger/liability if you decline!I rent cars for business and personal travel. Never have I experienced this before. I will not rent from Dollar again until these time wasting practices are changed
Compared to Enterprise with new clean cars, attentive professional polite people, short and fast lines, streamlined process, etc Dollar is everything the opposite. The manager special I got was the smallest, cheapest piece of s**t imaginable. The line was a mile long and they tried to hard sell all kinds of crap.
This place is a landmine for fees. I was told that I could return the car without filling up the tank and I would be charged a market rate for the fuel. When I arrived to return the car they told me it would be $9.99 a gallon. Charges were $110.00 more than what I was originally required to pay. Go elsewhere
TERRIBLE! I feel harassed. My libtard apologist soyboy senses are tingling. Businesses need to understand that being compliant with their customers is the only way to solve issues. When I returned my rental to this location, everything checked out except that they wanted to charge me for not filling the gas all the way which I did!!! It depends on the angle you look at the curser but if that’s their way to scoop some dough out of your cookie jar then be it. I dont need your outrageous “petty scams” (as my good ol’ Daddy O’Neill says) to ruin my day. I’m gonna go chugg some shots and get some shawarma (not the literal meaning).
Rent a vehicle at Dollar Car Rental. Unlike the reviews on Google Map, served shortly after the arrival to the Rental Car Center, even being in the week after the July 4th. There was no check-in machine like other agencies, though. Rent a Chevy Impala with V6 engine, which was equipped with Apple CarPlay-ready Chevy MyLink system. This helped us a lot to drive with GPS
I rented a dollar car in LA Airport, I had a very bad experience with them. They just put in extra insurance and fpo without even asking me or telling me about it. Found out just when I returned the car. The service rep was horrible, and didnt want to help.Watch out from additional charges, they add them without asking.
Be prepared to pay double the price that was quoted. I quoted $53 for the day after all taxes and fees. I get to the counter and they now tell me to pay $98 with nothing additional added. When I asked why, they said thats the price pay it or leave. So I left. Enterprise got my business for $40 less.
CHECK before you ski! pick up was slow as the person seemed confused but did say a 4x4 was essential in Tahoe. On pickup I checked it had M+S tyres (Nissan Pathfinder did). However in Tahoe I discovered it was rear-wheel drive only! you need to check vehicle before accepting as they just dont know what theyre renting. On drop-off they charged me an extra £190 (lots of small insurance items involuntarily added). My advice is DO NOT USE DOLLAR at SFO!
AVOID AT ALL COST !!! They tried to sell us an overpriced deal for a Mustang. We were clearly looking like unknowledgable tourists and their quote was $650 but what they didnt know is that we researched other agency’s beforehand and eventually we just rented a Dodge at Alamo’s for HALF the price.
I rented a car in SFO for three days. I returned the car after filling up in a driving rain storm just before I got on the Interstate South from San Francisco. Apparently, I the station I used was 13 MILES from SFO. They charged me an additional $9.00 dollars for using a GAS station further than 10 miles from the Rental Car Return at SFO.San Francisco has gone to cashless toll booths. I was not informed. There was no way to pay the Toll on the Golden Gate Bridge coming down from Marin County. At the end of the year they sent me a statement with Administrative Fees plus the toll.I loath and despise Dollar. I will not use them again in SFO or in any of the other multitude of cities where we do business. I was on the road for 81 nights last year.WWB
I rented car from SFO - San Francisco Airport Location and drop off at LAX - Los Angeles . I was driving first time to CA . I ask on counter agent about toll and he says there is plan for tall call PLATE PASS. I told him that I am going to frop car at Los Angeles LAX airport and going to be long drive . I want peace of mind about toll . The reply came from agent what I am charging for . It is good for California . Yes ... I do agreed and was happy to hear that . well afer returning I am getting Administration charges and toll charges from toll authority of Las Angeles .I was wondering ...... I called Dollar but response was no good ......I make up my mind never go to Dollar rent a car and never let people to go to Dollar rent a car . This is ridiculous . People was not educated in terms information and customer has to pay for it . Or may be company policies to trap customer ?
Of course it has a long line, its cheap and I get that, but why does it take noticeably longer to process each reservation? Why did I bother completing a specified reservation online? What could you possibly be doing back there to confirm all the information and decisions I made ahead of time? Im still the person on my license. Not worth the cost savings. Next time going to a more expensive option.
Rude, extremely unfriendly SFO staff (one not-to-be-named lady at the key kiosk). Bad experience from the beginning to end. Would give 0 stars if it was available. No manager on duty. Left a note for her to call me upon my return. No calls, no response. Left feedback with corporate office, no response. Unable to contact the SFO office directly. Never rent with Dollar for our business again! Worst customer service ever!
I thought that getting a confirmation number would allow me to skip the lines and get the keys. Nope! Im here, in a long line, waiting to do the exact same thing that I did online. Then I have to go upstairs and THEN I get the key. Whatever simpleminded organism who decided this was a good idea should be reprimanded!
Thank you ashley for turning a major headache into a pleasant experience. (nice gold nails btw)... case in point: after getting screwed by expedia on a mistake in dates, i promptly booked a reservation with dollar. and im glad i did. ashley was on top of her game. she not only upgraded me at no additional cost, but also found out the details of my job interview and promptly suggested that a get a toll tracker to ease my return to the airport. pleasant, professional, and knowledgable, i will be using dollar on business trips from now on thanks to ashley.
After waiting in line for 20 minutes at the dollar counter on the ground floor, I was informed that despite the huge illuminated dollar signage, its a thrifty counter, and the dollar counter is on the 4th floor -- where there was another 20 minute wait. Dollar, get your act together, and change the signs. Apparently this is happening constantly to your customers!

2022-05-31Waited two hours in line to get my car and was told I got a late pickup fee by customer service? So be weary that they’ll force you wait in line long enough to charge you extra for it. Booked a car for 4 days (only four hours the first and last day but still charged for a full day) at $589. When I received my bill it had gone up to $865. No one can explain to me why all the fees went up or what they’re for. They still have a $200 hold on my card as well, so currently out $1065 for having a car for two days realistically. They also misquoted prices for me (apparently) during the checkout process. He didn’t explain anything and was not the easiest to understand. Only leaving two stars because they did give us a mid-size SUV rather than a compact car which was what I booked. Kind of cool I guess but also the gas was more expensive than I had hoped.

2022-06-18Do not use dollar at San Fransisco Airport. We waited three hours for a car to be made available. When the car was ready it had tyre damage and was not suitable. We then joined the back of another 3 hour queue, or if we wanted to get away promptly had to pay for an upgrade. We argued and argued and then though let’s just pay and leave as it was so stressful. The staff were clearly not coping and comments to customers were “ there are no cars ready maybe someone had a heart attack I dunno”. Totally unprofessional and I felt that the upgrade was a scam as the parking lot was full of cars but apparently these were for hertz customers only…. They were parked in the dollar lot and clearly ready for hire. Apparently these were reserved for customers arriving later that day. Sorry I’m here now and your making me wait three hours. The toll pass is a con, there is so few roads that you would need it on. Just use Apple maps or Google maps and select avoid tolls! (Free) ta da tell em to poke it! Also check these cars as there is significant damage that they try pinning on you at the end of hire. I photographed and filmed the whole car. Never would I ever use dollar again.

2022-08-05I only gave a two star because of the kind lady behind the desk at the San Fran airport location. I reserved a convertible and had already paid majority of it before pick up, I was then told there were no convertible available for several hours. The lady then offered me an upgrade vehicle FREE of charge since it was their inconvenience. I was agreeable and asked two extra times before finalizing that there would not be any upgrade fees and she said yes. The manager even came out and agreed. When returning I saw on my receipt that I was charged for the convertible and the upgrade fee plus the taxes. I had contacted the customer service line and they would look into it and get back to me within 72 hours. A week later and still no answer so I contacted them again, and they said it was in process of being looked into and would take 7-10 business days. Well now I am at 14 days and they still have no answer and have given me the run around.I will never book with Dollar ever again! Do not recommend.

2022-07-25I had seen the reviews and was very apprehensive about getting our rental car because they were so bad. However our experience with Dollar couldn’t have gone better. The wait in line was around 20 minutes and they had 4 people on the desk so the queue went down pretty quickly, the customer service advisor was super friendly and didn’t force any extras on us. He gave us the keys and the paperwork and we went down to collect our car straight away

2022-02-28The car had an awful cigarette smell. We were told it was the only available car in that size and we needed the trunk space, so we kept it.We had bad headaches the entire weekend from the leftover smoke fumes. We called Dollar several times throughout the weekend to get a replacement car but could not get a hold of anyone. Called their roadside emergency service and they transferred us to the same automated service that had no option to contact a human.Apparently, they charge a $400 smoking fee to clean the car but they obviously didnt clean it at all and we got a $25 discount when we complained at the drop off.Absolutely disgusting.

2022-08-04The line took forever, when we did get to the front, it was like the scene from Seinfeld. we made a reservation, I believe my mother who I was travelling with, even paid in advance, and they didnt have a car for us. we had to wait an additional like hour and a half. enterprise and others might be more expensive, but you get what you pay forBTW, NEVER BUT CHRYSLER PRODUCTS. We had a chrysler minivan hybrid. the seats can be compared to airplane seats, they are that uncomfortable. the rear shocks felt blown out, on a vehicle with less than 2,000 miles. my father has never been car sick once in his life, this vehicle made him carsick. I was driving and even I got carsick

2022-05-24HORRIBLE experience with Dollar & Hertz. Dollar agents said the car wasn’t ready when we showed up on time. After waiting 30 minutes, the agent calls my name and says “it was ready right after I talked to you”. We also find out it’s a HERTZ car instead of a Dollar car.We find the car with a pile of dirty clothes inside. We go back to Dollar and they won’t help – they tell us to talk to Hertz. We go to Hertz, wait in line again, and the agent has the WORST attitude with me. He mocks me, rolls his eyes, and makes faces at me. He ridicules me about everything – the car, the fact that Dollar won’t help, everything. He’s also on his phone the whole time he’s talking to me.He finally gives us a minivan as a replacement for our compact car, so it was tough parking that in SF. No discount, no apology, nothing from either company. We paid almost $400 for 3 days and got this service.DON’T rent from either place! These companies keep shirking responsibility and clearly don’t care.

2022-04-22I had a prepaid reservation to rent a car beginning at noon. I got there at 11:45 and had to wait 55 minutes in a line of about 50 people to get my car. The line never got shorter during that entire time. They really need more staff. The lady at the counter was nice, and I was able to get the car quickly after that. But waiting 55 minutes in line was irritating and uncomfortable.

2022-03-15INSANELY BUSY! This particular weekend there were reports of vandalism so the entire airport was devoid of cars. The desk clerks were supportive and asked that we be patient and that they would find cars. It took just over 2 hours but we got a great car, great price, and great service. This was a slow start to the week but the car made up for it.
