I have been around boats and Marinas all of my life to Include Newport Rhode Island, all over southern California and Baja and The Hawiian Islands. CVM is my favorite marina I have had the pleasure of being a part of. They check all the boxes...... pristine grounds that are taken care of daily. Up to date facilities that are always available and constantly updated. Spotless restrooms and showers, an amazing restaurant and bar in The Galley that is so accommodating to the marina tenants. The A+ team here at CVS is truly what makes them amazing. From dock master to office personnel to maint specialists, everyone is so friendly and eager to help. It has been a great 2 years and i will miss this home that everyone here helped create. Thanks so much for everything!!!!! Mahalo
Took the dog for a walk and to see what is changing? The old RV park is now closed and relocated to just off E Street off ramp of the I-5.It has this air of pending transformation and I can’t wait to see the final project. The marina is clean and very well kept up. It looked like the North end was pretty full and the southern end had many open slips of all sizes.
My stay was short, but I may be back. Everything about Chula Vista Marina is excellent. The grounds are meticulously kept by the marina maintenance staff, and the security staff is outstanding! They are ready and available to meet your needs should something arise during or after hours. The marina is well surveilled and patrolled to ensure a safe and protected experience. The office staff is courteous, polite and professional. They go out of their way to help and educate boaters and assist them with their needs. Chula Vista Marine is an excellent “five-star” facility which rivals others in San Diego. Oh, did I mention the great food at the Galley restaurant? The don’t have a huge menu, but what they do have they do exceptionally well. You won’t find a more friendly and inviting place to keep your boat. The prices are comparable, but the facility and staff are exceptional. Much thank to Robert and Gordan for all their help and support.
I have been at Chula Vista Marina for over 5 years. They have a friendly staff, security keeps the place safe, and they have more amenities than other marinas. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and its a very well kept facility. The restaurant has good food and its only a 10 min walk to the trolley.
We had a deadline to get our newly acquired yacht out of its current slip in Marina Del Rey. Chula Vista Marina was wonderful in accommodating us. I was very pleasantly surprised on how beautifully maintained the property is and the staff has been very welcoming and accommodating. The amenities are beautiful and well maintained. I highly recommend this marina!
Great RV Park. Been coming here for 15 years. Always friendly staff, clean park and great price for bay location. Its close to Galley restaurant too. Its really sad city is closing it down. New one on E Street is much more expensive, charges $20 for each extra guest a day and no privacy between lots.
When Mike Sullivan was dockmaster Chula Vista Marina was actually pretty good. When he left & his replacement, ROBERT was hired Chula Vista Marina immediately went downhill & he turned the place into the worst Marina from the border to Oceanside. I thought since he was so young (24) that saltwater runs in his veins & must have some credentials he earned to be Dockmaster BUT I WAS WRONG! He is without merit, cant keep himself in order much less the Marina. Sloppy
Quiet ,serene, love looking at all the boats. Reminds me of my father when he use to take me to long beach marina to look at the boats. The people are a bit rude but whats new.... The locals should be cooler to the locals I mean ... Why are you all so stuck up..and for no reason . I mean have they looked in the mirror before they judged me.. I dont think so
Got a boat? Come here. Way less of a crowd at the docks and a beautiful place to sail. The park is also very clean and a safe place to bring kids. Local events are held here(pre COVID) and gives the visitor a great taste of something Chula Vista has to offer. Strongly recommend visiting.
Ate at a minimum once a day for over a week at the Gally. Great food, friendly waitresses, great entertainment in the evening. Fran, the owner has been providing an excellent place for us to eat and drink for over a decade . Good family restaurant when we vamp in the area.
Dont trust when they say security is monitoring the premises. I Had my vehicle stolen from the property while security was patrolling and management didnt even apologize for it occuring.Another vehicle of mine had its bumper ripped off. Still nothing from the management.Water is also constantly filled with trash. Also, management, dont contact me asking to change my review like last time.
Beautiful sunset! Grounds, docks and bathrooms/showers were clean with secured access. On site security and many happy sailors!Live music at a reasonably priced and fun restaurant. Banquet room for 2-300 people. Lovely & colorful landscaping. Lots of convenient parking. Close to H Street trolley.
Had lunch there. Waitress forgot us. Came back 20 minutes later and asked if we wanted anything. Clam chowder was excellent, all 4-6 spoonfulls...skimpy portions. Few face masks, not socially distance well, and worst of all the female owner of the restaurant came our table to talk without her mask. Not going back. We dont want a virus.
This is the worst marina ever. I could not beleive the cluster &@^$. Bathrooms are terrible, launch ramp was crowded. The people launching boats had no clue what to do. One guys had his trailer stuck and a 2wd truck. On the other side he had his boat. Blocking 2 ramps. Then at the same time some knucklehead forgot to put the plug in and his boat sank. Then for the last ramp, it was blocked by a tug boat that would not leave. I could say more but why.
Before the pandemic, this place was so fun for my daughters since it was never crowded and my daughters had so much space to just go nuts. Climb trees, climb modern art things, and climb the rocks of the jetty. During the pandemic, it is one of the few places that has remained uncrowded, allowing them to run around. If people happened to approach, it is no big deal to put on our masks. Since they like climbing the rocks lining the jetty or banks of the harbour, they can keep masks down since no one gets close.
I enjoy the classes that they have there. I always learn things and meet new people. Its a great place to network with other boat owners. The photo shop classes are great. Last month I went to the Coast Guard Vessel Safety Class. WOW what an eye opener. very informative
My Wife and recently moved into the Chula Vista Marina and we love this place. Weeks before we even bought our boat we started coming down to the Harbor to look at potential slips. We probably made Emily a little crazy but she like everyone else there made us feel like we were home. The Galley restaurant has awesome food and live music 3 nights a week. We love this place!! Highly recommend..
Were new to this marina, having only recently purchased a classic 41 Hatteras. The marina is beautiful in the day and absolutely stunning in the evening. We are in the property management business; my professional observation is that the marina is extremely well-maintained and managed. Finally, an old real estate industry adage is that value is often determined by Location, Location, Location.Keath North
I absolutely love Chula Vista Marina!! You can spend the weekend there or just spend the a few hours eating food and drinking cocktails at the Galley. My girlfriend loves the vegan options and I love the atmosphere and free parking. LOL . I love the fact that after a long day on the water I can relax on the putting green or play horseshoes with my friends.. and if you have pets, this IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! Keep up the excellent work guys!!!
The staff is always friendly and helpful. I had an issue with my shore power and they were able to come down to the boat and switch things out in the dock box. Being new to boating we were unsure as to what type of power we needed. Ever since then the guys say Hi whenever we see them.
Its where I keep my boat. The staff is excellent, and I mean excellent! Always willing to assist. Always happy to be at work and answer any questions. Ive been at serveral Marinas over the last seven years, and this one has been my best experience. Nice hometown feel. If you are looking for a Dana point style Marina, then go to Dana Point.Only down side is, and it has nothing to do with the marina, no fuel dock. So always make sure you have enough fuel to get to North island.
Its pretty but its so far from the ocean it takes 4 hours to get to it. Sailing the bay gets old especially at low tide. Some places are two to 3 ft. Everyone runs aground. Its poorly marked coming in at night. The Galley is a private restraunt with bands once and a while. The food is all frozen and reheated. If youre not a regular and over tipper at the bar, you will get ok service and snapper thats not snapper and clam chowder from a 5 gallon bucket.
I deal with Mike Sullivan a lot and he is a straight shooter. The marina is clean, the facilities clean, and it is nice and quiet even though there is a wonderful restaurant that is always packed right next to it. The perfect place to get away - and easy access to downtown and IB.
We rent a slip for our boat here, but we do not live aboard. The residents who do live aboard can be pretty nasty if you make their boat rock even a little bit. We picked up a crew member from a slower sailboat who got his fingers crushed in the bite of a line. His fingers were turning a dark blue so we full throttled it to the marina where an ambulance was waiting. We even informed the coast guard that we were going to have to break the speed limit posted in the traffic lanes in the bay to save this guys fingers. they said be careful and go as fast as we can go safely. Entering the marina with our horn blaring and an ambulance waiting with their lights flashing, we left a wake. Later that day, several residents complained that we made their boat go up and down once due to our wake. Boo HooI give them three stars for not telling the live aboard people that there was a real emergency going on and letting the residents contact us to cry.Other than that, its a nice location.
Excellent service, had tons of help from the security Officers Mario and Rolan as we pulled in from lake havasu Arizona, these men made it feel comfortable and very safe to be able to have our Yacht and vehicle safe in their hands during the night till we depart. Very outstanding job of these two men. Definitely recommend them to the managers for going beyond the call of duty of helping me and my wife and everyone else that lives there! Excellent service. Thank you again to these gentlemen!
Nice marina about a mile from the bar and restaurant hipster 3rd street area. Can walk to the trolley also from the marina. Nice restaurant and bar with good happy hour..5.99 fish tacos were good. And 4 days of livr music. Very good cover bands outdoor with the marina behind them...well worth the visit. And even better if you can sail #aliendnajazz #wirefreesoft #chulavistamarina
This is the best marina in Southern California by far. I have 37 years of experience staying at marinas in California and Hawaii and this one is the best. The Harbor Master Mike Sullivan leads a team that is helpful and attentive. Mike maintains an active relationship with the tenants and is aware of everything that is going on at all times. The maintenance team is always out on the docks keeping everything clean and neat and the security team are welcome friendly visitors combing the docks continuously. In particular the restroom facilities and the showers are truly the cleanest of any in San Diego. When you consider amenities including: boater activities, restaurant, live music, bar, RV parties, and free WiFi there is no other facility in San Diego that offers the same and you actually pay more elsewhere (Shelter Island, Harbor Island, etc.) than you do here. If you cant handle the trip to South Bay then you may not be cut out for boating.
Turned me and my boyfriend down because we were too young per the dock master. We bought a 35 foot boat, which is what the minimum is for a live aboard. This boat was already at the marina too. Survey was perfect. Gave both of our collections of paycheck stubs to prove income. You only have to make 2.5 to 3x more than what the rent costs, which we did. They told us that they denied us because of our income and credit, which is incredibly funny because they didnt run our credit until after a friend of ours went off on the management in which they said theyd review our application again. This is also when he was able to get it out of the management that they turned us down because we were too young. Im 18 and my boyfriend is 19. We both hold great, reliable jobs. We were obviously able to have enough income and savings to buy the boat in the first place so its incredibly insulting that they denied us because of our age. They didnt run our credit till after they said they would re-review it. But at this point we went ahead and just applied to the marina next door (California Yacht Club). Told them about the situation and they told us that as long as our credit is good and the survey is good, they could careless about age (obviously as long as youre over 18). Chula Vista Marina also said theyre trying to make it a resort vibe, which I mean come on its Chula Vista. People go to Mission Bay and Coronado if they want that. Theres so many people at Chula Vista Marina that also just live there without paying the live aboard fee, which nothing is being done about. Yet, they turn us down when we were totally okay with paying the fee. I could go on and on but honestly just take your business elsewhere. The staff and management is whack and discriminatory.I also want to add that I’m not new with boats and marinas. My dad and family friends have had boats for years and I’ve grown up going out on the water. If you don’t plan on living on your boat, take your boat to mission bay like seaforth marina or marina village. You’ll be much more happy with the management.
Been living here for over 3 years. Prices keep going up, now they have an electricity charge because of SDG&Es new energy policy, higher live aboard fees (used to be flat rate no matter the people), and their payment policy is inherently unfair for liveaboards aka Extended Stay. You can start an Extended Stay mid-month and be charged for 1/2 the month slip fee, but you cannot end an Extended Stay contract until the 1st of the month, regardless if you move out mid-month, meaning youre paying fees for half a month of not living there.Used to love living here because the staff was understanding of deployment schedules, the fees werent that bad, showers cleaned and nearby laundry and amenities like gym and pool. Now, the costs of living here far out weigh the benefits, and the RV park amenties of pool and jacuzzi is becoming more exclusive (need a special wrist band to use). Getting a cheap apartment instead and selling the boat.
I really dont rate things usually because I feel it would most likely be a waste of time, but in this case however, it might actually help some one with the information I can provide. My experience here was unfortunate to say the least. I bought a sail boat from a guy here and was paying off the boat while I kept it docked and made some repairs. From really early on, I noticed the staff here is unfriendly. Meaning, specifically, when I would say hi or how are you? They would not respond. Instead, they insist on telling you everything you are doing wrong. Your boat is too small Your too close to the docks you are using your boat too much. Odd stuff like that. The marina here acts like they are doing you a huge favor, or like that you owe them something, even after they get the slip fees for doing almost nothing. They claim to have one of the best amenities around, I disagree. They say they have free wifi. That is a joke. It never works. Maybe if you are lucky, you can check your email once in a while. Not hardly reliable by any stretch of the imagination. Their toilets are closed during the most busy time of the day. They have a pool area and small gym if you are into that kind of thing. Personally I prefer to get my exercise by running or biking. The problem with that is that it only would serve to call attention to myself, just another reason to bump into the NAZI like staff. Not a cool place to go. I would go another way. There are so many places to choose from, I am going to look else where. They are really not in the business of doing business. They seem to pretend they have too much business and they dont want yours. Not sure what their deal is. It seems like they are trying to do this elitist kind of strategy to sort of promote how upscale they are, but really they miss the point and end up driving you off. Be warned. Safe travels.
This marina and its staff are the best in all of San Diego bay. My family and I recently bought our first sailboat as our primary residence, so trying to find a marina that would accommodate us was really hard. Everywhere we went we were treated as second class citizens and turned away at the mere mention of livaboard. This was not the case at Chula Vista marina. Mike and his staff made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped foot in the office, and have worked with us to make sure we are comfortable. Every one on the docks is nice and says hello, there are other families here and the environment is very relaxed and welcoming. If you are looking for a new place to call home look no further than Chula Vista marina! Oh and the prices are the most competitive in the entire san diego bay.
Want an experience like mine in which they waste your time with deception and rude staff? If not, Id truly look elsewhere.1. Their follow through is non existent.2. Jeffrey is down right rude. He needs to find employment at a place where irreverence and laziness are acceptable. Oh yeah, it is at Chula -over-crowded-and-over-ambitious marina, thats right...)3.Good luck trying t o use the bathroom split between so many people, between the rv joint and the marina. (Seriously, they share and its slim pickins Im told.)4. Dog poop everywhere.5. Lies, lies and more...lies. And who wants that?It began when the guy on the phone told me one thing, that a 30 ft boat live aboard is fine, ...just gotta pay for a 33 ft slip to be fair to everyone else.)Ok, fine. But that is where it also got wacky. After investing TWO days coming out to see the place and talking with residents (and being warned that management is not very competent and to get it in writing with them), the right hand made it clear it had no idea what it nor the left was doing. The manager, Dave, who failed to follow up three times, after I called upset when jeffrey re-nigged on what I was certainly told on the phone by a male employee at that marina. He changed it all up and lied. Or either, they are just that flakey and disorganized.I do not recommend this marina. There are other better ones that people love and where what you see is what you get.Thats just good business, but you wont find that here.
Transient boaters beware. We had our boat here from Aug 21 to Sept 19. On top of the slip fees, they wanted a $1731 deposit and told us that they would return our deposit on September 19 when we check out. The day before we were to leave, they called and said they did not have authority to write us a check for that amount. Since our deposit was over $1,000 that it has to go through accounting and they will mail it to us. Surely they knew their authoriity when they took our deposit, and lied about when they would give it back. When we finally received the check, they kept $802 of our deposit with no explanations accompanying the check. When we called we were told that they added on live-aboard fees (even though we were temporary guests and most of the time we stayed with family, which is why we were there in the first place.)They also charged us for all of September even though we left on September 19, citing that in order to get the daily rate their agent put in our invoice they needed to charge us for all of September. The other extra charge was a pet fee which was never in any documents. They knew we had a dog before we arrived because we sent them her picture, as they had requested. All of the $802 that they kept were for things not in our invoice. After we left, Chula Vista Marina decided to change the charges for rent and add on erroneous live-aboard fees.Chula Vista Marina stole our money. Their agent sent us an invoice and we paid it. After we were gone, they decided they did not like the terms their agent put in writing to us.They lied about the rates, charged us for days after we left, and kept our deposit long after our departure.Maybe they count on transient boaters leaving and not being able to fight what I believe will soon be determined to be illlegal use of deposit funds. It would behoove the owners of this marina to find out who in management is engaging in the type of behavior that we have experienced.Donna
Moving asap! I have the parking pass and combo yet I am getting told that I am trespassing. Why even pay a place ....the security is normally yelling at 4 others for just sitting around! When the old man is not there then they all sit around... All four of them. The worst part is after my friends car was stolen from the parking lot they approached her daughter and said heard your car was stolen from our super safe parking lot. Maybe its just me but I would have been pissed... Just the thought of the marina saying anything besides we are looking into it and we are sorry! Is beyond my scope of things I could have dealt with. The marina is the biggest in san deigo. So take your number....cause thats all you are to them. During our gatherings the neighbors all share stories of the craziness that is chula vista. CV marina has had 3 dock masters in half a year. With a seemingly high turn around in all areas. The laundry onsite is 3x the price of laundrymats because their high heat is not very high and you will probably have to dry it twice. Thier are people living on the dock for free (that work for the marina and a few who the marina are aware of and just wont punish) this will not apply to you! You will pay or ve kicked out.Dont make friends with your neighbors because if you use your key more than 3 times a week they either charge you a live aboard fee or terminate your slip agreement.Honestly, being from South carolina where personal craft boats and old money yachts of all sizes are treated equally and fair. Do not expect these practices to take place in the chula vista marina.I know of six seperate tenants that all have horror stories. All of whom are moving! There are so many great marinas we all choose peir 32
Staying at this marina was, by far, the worst and most disappointing experience in our yachting experience! The marina staff was willfully and knowingly deceitful, the rates and rules changed AFTER our departure, and they never took the time to communicate any of the changes during our one month live aboard (their words) stay. The appear to prey on boats in for the Baja Ha Ha, like us, that are leaving for Mexico. Slips are hard to find in San Diego, but AVOID these thieves when passing through.
This is the first time I have ever done this but though people should know about this marina. NO Wi Fi and they claim they have a pool BUT you need to share this pool with a whole camp ground. If you do go to this marina have your slip rental quote in writing. We came up from Mexico quoted one price and when we arrived it was a $170 more than they quoted. Being a Cat we had no where else to go and had to accept the increase. After talking to other boaters there it seems that this is something that happens a lot and is common practice when they can get away with it.Also note in the contract that when you leave and give your 30 day notice they do not start till the first of the month. If you give notice on the 5th you just gave them 2 months notice because they do not start the 30 days till the first of the next month. After checking around they are the only marina in San Diego to do this. A great way to rip poor boaters off. Also we left on the 15th of the month and did not get a check for our deposit till the 10th of the following month. This seems to be another ploy they use because I probably would still be waiting if I had not called. They told me it was in the mail and after receiving noticed the post mark and it had just been mailed the previous day that I had called. Dont let the nice looks fool you being there only 7 months we were finally able to find another slip and in that time we saw many boaters come and go because of the practices of the marina.DO NOT go to Chula Vista marina unless you absolutely have to and even then document everything and be aware of the fine print in the contracts. Everyone also says they are cheaper. Well you pay for that cheapness with an hour and a half to 2 hour ride to get to the ocean AND by doing some due diligence I was able to get an end tie for $60.00 less than I was paying and Im 15 minutes to the ocean now and in the bay in minutes.Take what I have said for what its worth. Do your due diligence and I know you will find another marina to go to. Thank you.

2022-06-07This place is so magical! It is beautiful any time of the morning g or evening. There are bathrooms. There is a fishing pier. It is a marina, the port authority is right at the front of the park. There is a restaurant there, with a bar and live music on the weekend. You will find a spectacular view of the Silver Strand, as well as the Coronado Bridge, from here. Some local groups meet up here. And someone always is having a birthday party or celebrating something. The park abuts a shipwrights works. There are many beautiful trees. They appear to be making some renovations, right now: The trailer park is currently closed, as are the first set of bathrooms, near the pier. It can be breezy, bring a little jacket, especially if at night.

2022-02-10This is a great area at which to take a walk. There are wide sidewalks, perfect for bringing kids to ride scooters or whatever, to walk dogs, etc. At one end, near the Marina buildings, there is a wind sculpture and rock garden that is a very peaceful place to sit and meditate and relax. The only downside is there is a lot of interruptive road noise from the cars on the street near it as well as the constant distant hum from traffic on the I-5.

2020-01-21Overcast today , all day but still was nice!!! I enjoy coming here anytime if year, I seen some pelicans out today there! The seagulls as usual, people feed those things and the come in packs. They are like vultures!!!! But other than that, its a nice place to come , walk or seat and chill out. Very peaceful, never had an issue there. They have bathrooms , its always clean and plenty of parking.
