They found my Kitty. She wasnt chipped but was found out running around. They treated her great. She was happy when I saw her, which says alot because she hates cages. So I know they treated her with love. Luckily she was already fixed before, so Im getting her chipped, since she is an outside kitty. Ive always adopted dogs from spca. I appreciate all their hard work and help. Thanks!
Went to look at cats for adoption. For awhile nobody was around to offer assistance. After awhile a young lady came out of the work area and we had to stop her to ask about adopting cats. She told us they didnt have any available. How can that be? The streets are full of strays yet they havent a one to adopt? I do want to say that I greatly appreciate the work the SPCA does and they certainly deserve our support.
Overall Love the spca, got 2 of my dog babies from there. The prices have gone up over time and that did shock me with my most recent adoption but they do fluctuate prices per animal. Generally speaking the staff has been nice enough, not superb but it cant be an easy place to work so I am not about to complain. The only big problem I had with the last adoption was an health issue that arose from my dogs spay that ended up costing me alot. I didnt bring it up to them but the paperwork pretty much explained what they could offer so I wasnt about to bring her back, already loved her. Happy they exist, wish there was a way for it to be better somehow but I dont have the solutions 🤷♀️
The CCSPCA is great for the community of Fresno. They provide a number of different programs and services to serve every stage of an animal’s life. These include adoptions, rescue, humane investigations and education, foster care, owner surrenders, outreach, veterinary services, spay/neuter programs, and many other Pet services.
The CCSPCA is an excellent place to get your animals medical needs taken care of for very affordable prices. Their Spay and Neuter program is excellent and their entire staff was very helpful and friendly. I also love their training program with GoodPup. Their program has helped me train multiple dogs and they are all very obedient and well behaved thanks to the CCSPCA!
Try anything else other than dropping your dogs off here! they place them in a building with 50 other dogs barking constantly and kennel cough and instead of treating them they put them down. I dropped my two lab mix dogs off and after 10 day they still werent up for adoption i checked through email on their status and they said they were top timid to go to adoption other wise know as terrified surrounded with dogs barking all day so I spend 225 to get the. Out and they were so sick I had to pay 100$ for antibiotics for kennel cough I dropped off healthy dogs and got back very sick ones th at would of been put down before up for adoption.
CCSPCA is a great place to adopt a pet and with well service. CCSPCA provides opportunity of all ages to volunteer and learn on how important it is to be properly trained to be an owner and handle pets. Great thing about the CCSPCA is that their a non-profitable company which means that the money they make goes straight to the animal. From my personal experience, I have learn many new things about pets that I never thought I would find useful.
I always call when I see a dead animal, so it can be picked up. It breaks my heart to see them dead in the road. Today I called and the area happened to be county so I was told to call Fresno humane society. Well they are closed on Mondays. So I call back the ASPCA and they told me there was nothing they could do about it.I find that hard to believe. Its not that far from the city line. You would think they could make an exception. That poor animal has to stay dead in the road risking that it could be ran over again. I guess that they really dont care about animals.
These people were good to me I just had a fire and lost every thing in my home and the owner called the spca on my dog while I was still trying to retrieve the little items that I could keep so I had to go get my baby from jail😪 but they were so nice to me and I was thankful that I found my Diamond❤
They were so nice and very caring we lost our buttons after 17 years weve been rescuing 47yrs my husband is devasted over buttons passing he had to be put on antidepressant losing a pet is like losing a child which we have we walk around I wanted to take them all then we turned the corner and fell in love his name is chunky he will be in our forever home wish I had his picture il ad later the meet and greet went great my meathead love chunky hes also been depressed so this is a blessing for us cant wait for chunky to be released
If your looking for a pet go here and save a dog or cat. I recently did I adopted a puppy total cost was $180. With the purchase you get a book of coupons including free bag of food , free first vet check up , vouchers for shots and training but the most important thing is saving a pets life.
Three days ago, I called in to report that there were three dogs clearly abandoned next to the freeway on Clark Street between Dakota Ave. and Garland Ave. here in Fresno. I was told that they would send someone to pick them up. Well guess what, the dogs are still there. The CCSPCA is a garbage organization and should get any funding they receive pulled.
I was in the other day and was happy to find out how much work the volunteers and employees put into this space. I had inquired about one dog, and the worker was able to tell me her age and history and informed me that they often update the website with as many details as they can! I was also informed that any pet you purchase is able to be spayed/neutered and picked up within a couple days! If you’re looking to volunteer, this is a great place to do so. You can work with the dogs, maintain the cleanliness of the different adoption centers, and see the amazing look on adopters face’s when they are able to take their animal home.
Came by to see a kitten they had available and the girl said that it was recovering from a spay and she couldnt even give us any info on her like when she would be available to adopt it said on their website she was available and when we went back to look for her on the website she just disappeared somehow I asked all kinds of questions and she couldnt answer or find someone to answer them kinda shady to me and thats just my opinion 🤔. I know they do a great service for the animals in need of homes because we would love to adopt a little kitten so that it can grow with my kids and be spoiled.
The SPCA; They said they couldnt help me that the puppies I had to turn in were passed the age that they would take them for free. That because they were 4mo, old I would have to pay 60 dollars per puppy to turn them in I had 4 at the time. And I also had a sick puppy asked if they could at least take him, they said no that it might have parvo and it might infect the other dogs and they would have to put it down said they had no treatment plan for it, I was very lucky with lots of prayer the puppy only had a very bad tummy. I have also found very nice people for all my puppies but one,, with no help from the SPCA. I also had an older dog that had no home, I said that it was a stray they said they could only keep him for a short time that they werent a no kill shelter ( No kidding), I never thought they could be so cold, I left there not knowing were to turn and crying for my poor babies. 💔
I’m pretty sure if they read this they going to remember me but me and my husband took our dog to go view some dogs to see if they get along and then adopt it and we’re looking at our fourth dog and the lady was like if you guys aren’t gonna adopt a dog then you guys need to leave and they basically kicked us off the premises so if they had a zero star I would put a zero because I’m never going back to that place ever again
I honestly was not going to visit this adoption center. My actual visit was an unexpected stop, rather spontaneous and something told me to visit. When we got there, I started to tear up a bit seeing so many great beings caged. One stood out of all of them. It was Rosetta, the big dog in the pictures. The unsettling gaze she had, as if the ancient gods were sensing a message through her. The energy, positive energy, could be felt in the air, like lightning striking the ground. I have been accompany my entire life by canines, however, Rosetta felt like I had met her before. I ended adopting her and keeping her real name “Rosetta”. 2 years later we are still together, Steve joined us a few months later. They are family to me, one I’m willing to give everything for.
Everyone here, employee and volunteers, have been absolutely awesome! We adopted our newest pet (kitten) from here and today was our last appointment for her series of shots. We actually brought our adult kitty here for his annual shots as well. Very grateful to everyone who we have encountered at Central California SPCA
The CCSPCA is such a beneficial place to the community. The provide so many opportunities for everyone of all ages to get educated on how important it is to be a great pet owner and what it actually takes and so much more. Everything they do is all for the benefit of the animals there at the shelter who need a home and care and when pets are adopted the money goes right back to the animals since theyre not actually making profit from it. Its so important to make sure you volunteer and share you time. The SPCA is a great way to start volunteering and giving back to the community!
Why trust these people all they will do is use ur donations for is to afford more Euthanizing shots to kill the animals that have been Rescued u know y I know cause my sister took in a beautiful Siberian husky that was abandoned by his Neighbor cuz they where moving nothing was wrong with him very friendly and loving I fell in love with him but she couldn’t keep him she had 2 other big dogs and small one i also couldn’t keep him cuz I live in an apartment so she brought him here I didn’t like the idea but I understood I was hoping to adopt him once I got a our house my sister even told them that I wanted him once I got my house if he wasn’t adopted yet they told her I can adopt when that happened she even called them every day to check in on him but they never answer then today they did and guess what they Euthanized him how is that rescuing an animal Zero star If u ask me Total joke this place is
You guys need to be shut down it’s terrible the abuse that goes down in there cats are free to roam around by law if someone brings you a cat with a collar TURN IT AWAY that is someone’s pet just because mean neighbors trap them and take them in doesn’t make it a stray you should be ashamed of yourselves. you need to be defunded and shut down
I picked up a kitten a couple of days ago, they told me that she was medically fine. Today I had to take her the veterinarian, because she has Kennel cough. 176 dollars later.......the staff were nice but the end result, dont take their word for the animals being medically fine. Make sure you inspect carefully before bringing home a new family member.
CCSPCA is such an amazing place to volunteer! This organization is extremely beneficial to our community. They full heartedly care about animals and for our community which is just amazing! Not only that but Linda and her staff are amazing and helpful with anything you made need! If you in search for a fury friend, definitely come to the CCSPCA, you will not regret it!
Please if anyone out there is thinking of or going to surrender an animal to the SPCA...IM PLEADING WITH YOU PLEASE IF THERE IS NOTHING TERMINALLY WRONG WITH THE ANIMAL PLEASE DONT TAKE IT THERE THEY KILL ANIMALS THERE EVERYDAY!!!!!! PLEASE IF YOU DONT WANT AN ANIMAL PLEASE CALLTHE HUMANE SOCIETYOR ANOTHER ANIMAL RESCUE SHELTER FIRST PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE 🥺🥺🥺🥺🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏THEY RESCUE ANIMALS THEY SAVE THEIR LIVES AND TRY TO PLACE THEM SOMEWHERE INSTEAD OF KILLING THEM!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH 😇😇
SPCA is amazing they take care all the animals. They have a educational program that my oldest was in when he was 10 and now my middle child is in the program and hes eight. The children learn so much about different animals and how to take care of them. The best part is the educator or teacher is really awesome with all the children. SPCA truly try to find good homes for all the pets😍💖 SPCA has different deals and great prices for your animal needs. It even has a thrift store all the money go towards the animals.
Had to reluctantly surrender two cats I had since birth due to moving cross country. They are 13 year old siblings but doing well. Michelle Russ handled the intake and was most kind, understanding, and patient in answering my questions. I just called to check their status and happily was told by the operator that both were adopted together. As I hung up, I had a voicemail from Anthony from the adoption center giving me the same news. He also was very understanding and even relayed info to the owners of the food I gave the cats per my request. Thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers there, as well as to all those who have adopted!!
Its really sad when you try and get help for an abused animal and they do nothing. I have been trying for a year to get this animal help from the heat, SPCA , Animal control, County Supervisor of District 5 Nathan Magsig, and the Governors office all media outlets. And everyone of them looked the other way and did nothing to help this animal.
The CCSPCA is honestly a wonderful organization. What they do for Fresno County and the overall welfare for animals is admirable. They are very involved in the community, both in volunteers and in working with schools. They consistently do a great job at educating the public on animal affairs.
I had a great experience here and came out with the sweetest, smartest little girl. I live 2 hours away and saw Remi on the website. She just had that high drive, playful look in her eyes. So I sent an email to make sure she was still available before I made the drive. Elena kept in touch with up until the day I went to meet her. It was crazy busy but we got a lot of help from all the staff especially because I could not find her. She was in the back! Erika did my adoption and we had a lot of fun chatting and she answered all my questions and went over everything I needed to know. Remi needed to be spayed so she had to stay. I had a question about grooming and Cathy responded to me same day and between Cathy and the vet tech they helped me best coordinate my pickup time with my schedule and my long drive. We picked her up, no hiccups, no health issues and she is a happy girl and we love having her as a new addition to the family!
My wife & I literally just brought a kitten from here & less than 48 hours later like someone else mentioned the cat is dead!!!! WTH what type of place is this I would not recommend getting any animals from here. The cat seemed perfectly fine when we first seen here after getting her spayed surgery we took her home & she seemed severely sick a day later she’s dead. WORST PLACE EVER
Got our new family member thru spca in fresno.. we looked thru all the local shelters for a dog over a couple weeks after our little dog died... but the majority of dogs in all of the shelters were pitbulls or pit mixes and there are breed restrictions where we live.. made it hard so we headed to fresno.. still alot of pitbulls but we did find other breeds there too. Staff was friendly and helpful if even a little overworked..all in all it was a good experience.
I understand that people may have bad experiences at the CCSPCA, but they can only do so much while being an NPO. They have experienced people running the show and they definitely have a better idea of the consequences resulting from careless animal housing and treatment. Any animal that they dont pick up could be the cause of growth in rabies cases. Thanks for preventing rabies cases and keeping strays fed and disease-free!
Took a stray kitten that had a broken leg and lost an eye. Didn’t have any infection and it seemed perfectly fine. Surrendered him to them and just called 2 weeks later and found out they killed the kitten. Because the vet “found an infection on its eye”. Are they a first time vet or they just don’t think this kitten would’ve been adopted?!! It was a really lovable kitten
The SPCA had to be called regarding my daughters dog. She wouldnt let paramedics get to my daughter who was lying on the floor. The dog was protecting her...my daughter had died so they took the dog and two cats to the shelter...I was able to pick the pets up and bring them to my house..all at no cost to me...I will always be grateful for their kindness ❤
Adopted a cute little kitten & it ended up having a fatal virus. SPCA needs to do a better job in making sure the animals are fully vaccinated and healthy. PLEASE SAVE US THE HEARTBREAK. less than 48 hours my kitten was vomiting and unable to eat. the guy at the counter was also borderline rude. if i could give them negative stars I WOULD.
My daughter and I surrendered two momma and three kittens. The mommas were part of a strays litter and then had litters of their own. Anyway, it was a traumatic situation for both us and the cats. The staff here were compassionate and helpful. They also gave us information about the SPCA we did not know. I left feeling less sad and more hopeful. Our cats are in good hands. If youre looking for a new pet(cat or kitten)go check them out. Plug for our pets. Also the SPCA. They have more than just felines. I saw turtles, dogs and puppies and guinea pigs there too!
I had called earlier in the week to inquire about getting my grandkids dog vaccinated, so he could get groomed. The lady that helped me mentioned that I could possibly come by the following morning and get on the waiting list. So, early next morning, I took a drive and hoped for the best. Upon arrival, I noticed that there were a few people already lined up and were waiting. At 7:30, the doors opened and one of the volunteers was letting us know where to go.I went ahead and filled out the paperwork, and was told to wait outside. Within a few minutes, I was called and proceeded to pay for the services. I was also advised that there would be a follow up for the additional booster shot for my dog. We paid...were called momentarily, and then it was done. Wow. Not even 20 minutes. I thanked the assistant as she handed me the certificate and the next appointment date. We were happy campers. You can tell that people who work here like their jobs. I will definitelymake it a point to let others know about the great job the CCSPCA is doing for the valley and for our pets. Thanks...Kingsburgite.😎🙂🙂😎😎😎
This place is amazing, they have lots of resources and are extremely friendly with everyone. I had lots of questions about how much should I feed my cat, and how do I stop him from throwing up. They gave me wonderful tips to use at home! Honestly I am thankful for the staff that helped me out.
The poor dogs are kept in kennels that are not air conditioned and its really hot for them. Not only that, the stench will knock your socks off!! Of course, the humans are in A/C (as are the cats, thank God). I think the workers take good care of the animals, but the administration needs to attend to the poor conditions of the kennels.
Here are pictures of our cat Taz that was attacked by two loose dogs in the neighborhood near the corner of Cornell and Effie. The cat was injured and went under the house next to our house located at. We looked for him the last few days and we cant find him. I called the shelter but no answer and the emails on the website are being sent back. So this is a desperate attempt to try to contact anyone who can help help us.
Literally called 18 times to see about cost for adopting a 2 month old kitten and Literally the mall box full they dont check it, I cant get connected with any operators and the one I did get connected with told me unfortunately thats not her department so she cant help me!
The spca is a great place if you are looking for a loving animal who needs a home. The organization is very welcoming for the animals and for the people in the community who come in to find themselves a future pet. They also have a great group of volunteer staff to walk the dogs and play with them. Make sure to come by here if you are Looking for a good experience!
Central California SPCA is a great animal shelter that takes care of its animals before sending them off to a new home. It is also a great place to volunteer at if you are passionate about animal welfare. I wish that everyone, especially students, used their opportunity to help our community building a great relationship with each other during these difficult times.
This place really should be shut down. It’s more of a disservice than a service. Lots of botched medical procedures, quick to euthanize, and the staff and management is beyond terrible. If you’re involved with rescue you’ll find out quickly that this place should be avoided like the plague.
I volunteered a lot of hours here because I wanted to help out. I adopted my puppy here, its been about 4 years now. Everytime I would go in they wouldnt acknowledge me, and sometimes ignored my questions. Workers in the lost pet section always talked while I did all the cleaning work, until someone would come in. Good prices on vaccines and surgery though. They will track you down if youre late for your pets vaccines. They called me so many times while I was at school during high school . I dont even know why they kept calling me and threatening me to give me a $180 fine if I wasnt the first number on the documents, I was just a kid.
Today, 5/25/21 I had the unfortunate task of putting down 2 of my little buddies, one very old the other very sick, both suffering. As much as I hated coming to this decision, I have to praise all the staff I came in contact with at the center for being the best, most empathetic, sincere and saying their condolences for my loss, people Ive met in a long time. Thank you all so much. You all will be remembered. You are definitely Angels.
I am blessed to recieve the cat that I have, he is a great addition to my home. The process of obtaining him, however, was interesting. Staff couldnt find his paperwork, I was notified I was on a 20 minutes time limit, 8 minutes into the viewing process and they still could find the animal tag number for the cat i originally came to see. The store was closed both times I went to the facility though I was told it would be open. They tried to overcharge me for the cardboard carrier. My cat smelled really bad and after his surgery, there was no cone provided or store open near the facility to purchase one. With that being said, theyre a non profit who staffs volunteers so Ill take that into account.
Outstanding customer service on behalf of an employee who I spoke to over the phone today, regarding an incident that occurred yesterday evening involving a dog attack. The employee was understanding and gave much importance to the issue. The employee did send an animal control officer to my house in less than an hour.I will say, I was on hold for 57 minutes waiting to speak with a representative.
Called to report 2 abandoned dogs at Belmont Memorial Park Cemetery. Was on hold x 20 minutes. No one picked up after asking me to please hold. Sure hope someone reads this and helps those poor dogs one was moving but very dirty. The other did not move so he may have already passed away.😢😓
Horrible experience . Made an appointment over the phone the day of. The person I spoke to gave me a time window, or so I thought it was, to show up. I bring my two young daughters (who’s cat just passed away) and we get to the door only to be told that we missed our appointment even though there was still time. I know what happened and I get it. Apparently it wasn’t a time window, it was an actual time to be there. Again, I understand that. What my issue is that when I made the appointment it came across as a time window so there was clearly a miscommunication. So now I have two crying girls and drive a half hour at rush hour to get there and they can’t even have some understanding. A lady who was there offered to give us her time but alas, the people inside joyfully denied that. I went back to the door after the girls were in the car to try and reason with someone and nothing came of that other than some attitude from the employee. Now this is a county run place so I would expect it to be run professionally and I’m sad to say that it is not. That was a rough drive home and we definitely will not be going back after a very dissatisfied experience. We just moved to the area and this really killed that excitement. On to somewhere else!
The CCSPCA offers a safe place for rescues and offers low cost spay and neutering. The CCSPCA also allows families to adopt animals and provide the necessary materials for the family and the adopted animal. The staff is dedicated to serving and providing responsible and caring care for animals all throughout the central valley.
My fiancé and I came here last Friday to visit with a dog. After visiting with her, we both fell in love and knew we wanted her as our new addition. We asked if they could do a hold as I wouldnt get paid till the following Friday (7 days later). They told us they didnt do holds, but assured us she would more than likely be available due to the lack of visits she’s had. Today we tried calling to verify if she was still available and nobody would answer, so we decided to drive down there. When we get there the employees inform us that she was actually shipped to another rescue in Oregon last week. We had talked to the rescue coordinator, and she was unable to give us any leads, and mentioned that there were no notes of anyone having interest in the pitbull. If they did send her off last week, that means it would have been the same day we visited with her, just later in the day. I don’t understand how they assumed there was no interest, and I feel as if they put money first, then the animals. We will no longer be seeking to adopt through CCSPCA, as we do not want to support them any longer. We will try to pursue the doggy we wanted in our family, and if all else fails we will look into other animal shelters. One of the worst experiences I’ve had thus far as being a pet owner.
Great Experience with the SPCA , they have plenty of great dogs that they take off the streets that are sweet-hearts and just need a home . No dog deserves to go unloved, check out there great collection of adoptees and maybe you will have a new member of your family.
If you are looking to volunteer, look no further because the CCSPCA is a great place to volunteer !!! They make the signing up process easy and keep you informed of all the great volunteer work you can participate in. The CCSPCA also has a tremendous animal adoption process, so if you are searching for a pet, look no further because the CCSPCA is a great place you can find an animal to adopt.
First of all I live in the Westside of Fresno, California and today I had to call S.P.C.A. animal control ? For the simple fact that a gray pit-bull being inside my fence with the doors close and the dog in the yard like if he lived their. Got tried of feeding the dog for the fact that he started snapping at me and my grandson! So I Thought maybe I Should call for help? So I did and dog pond came got the dog !!! Left me thanking Jesus that no one was hurt. Praying to the good lord that its all over with know.please help me lord. From: Mary Guillen CejaThank You (S.P.C.A. animal Control.) God Bless You as well.
Excellent place to visit. Although you may have to stand in line outside due to covid-19 and nearly impossible to get through on their phones. It is still a great place to visit because the staff is very helpful, friendly and the best part is they truly have The Animals best interest at heart. Please support this or any SPCA in your area.
An amazing organization, I recently fostered a sweet male Pit Bull Terrier blend from the CCSPCA back in October! I fell in love with him instantly and ended up adopting him to add to my fur family. I am beyond appreciative of the CCSPCA for providing shelter, food, care, and much more for dogs just like my sweet boy. The CCSPCA has changed my life by providing me with my best friend and I know they have done the same for countless others!
The CCSPCA is a wonderful organization! They care for their animals and are always doing what is necessary in order to keep them safe and healthy. The CCSPCA is also very informative about their animals and they are always trying to find each animal wonderful and safe homes. They also have low cost resources and the staff that work at the CCSPCA have wonderful customer service.
You should definitely adopt from here. They have a lot of amazing animals, who are looking for a forever home. The SPCA brings in animals every week. You will definitely find the one you’re looking for. Their services are great as well. They give you everything you need to bring your new family member home.
When I visit here I want to take an animal to rescue it from this shelter specifically. The people working here never seem to know about the animals there. It took over an hour for them to find the paperwork on a cat we were trying to adopt. Im fairly sure a lot of the help is volunteers... but a lot of them dont want to be there or just refuse to help. Have you ever checked in on where they keep the guinea pigs and turtles? Its a litter box. With water. Thats where the turtle is.
I adopted my amazing dog from this SPCA. People at the front are not so kind but at the end of the day I do believe they do a really good work with the animals. My puppy has been in great shape ever since we adopted him and he is growing and getting more wonderful every day. He was already neutered, deworm and ate dry food. They did so much for him I can only say thanks for everything you do.
I love the SPCA. I got my cat here and the shots for my pets. I believe its a labor of love and the people here really care for the animals. I watched this woman who worked there go above and beyond to help an elderly man with all the information regarding his dogs vaccines. She was so patient and thorough. She made sure all his concerns were address and its was so refreshing to see. She and people like her are the reason I continue to support the SPCA in every way I can.
Fresno County contract SPCA. Staff was courteous and welcoming. We headed to the adoptions area and the dogs were as expected in a rescue/surrender shelter. Many adorable, some sad, some clearly ill but the best of the rest. We picked our pup and did our due diligence. A sign clearly read of a discount for adoptions over the previous weekend but the staff refused to honor it.We headed home to deal with our day including a new family member. Made an appt to go to the vet the next day to find that pup was infested with multiple parasites. SPCA claimed the pups were worm, tick, and flea free - Pups guts were infested with multiple types of parasites. 2/3, I suppose? Nothing unexpected but the false health claim and unwillingness to honor an advertised price left me feeling like we were fleeced for choosing to rescue a dog from death. No bad, not good. Just, Okay. Dealing in death is like that? I suggest exploring other options as well.
Absolutely inhumane. people here are horrible. we passed fresno by chance on a road trip, and found a dog walking by one of the main freeways just 5 minutes from this shelter. he had no tag and was shaking. this was the closest place we could find and they REFUSED to take him in or even help us since we werent even from around here. the lady we spoke to, veronica, is one of the cruelest human beings we have ever encountered. she threatened to take down our license and accused us of abandoning the dog. absolutely disgusting.
I moved here 2 years ago and have adopted 3 animals from them. It is so clean compared to other shelters I’ve been to before in the past. And I have not brought home a animal that is sick. Which I have had problems with before in the past with a different shelter.I love that they offer dog training classes on Wednesday, & their low cost shot fees.I just want to say Central CA SPCA is the best part of living here. Central California y’all really have the cutest animals! I brag to my friends back in TX about it. ❤️
The staff is helpful and can give accurate and important information. They provide a safe environment for stray or lost dogs. They are not a no kill shelter so be warned you do take a risk with the animals you bring here that they may be euthanized do to over crowding. They are however a great place for vaccines and have a spay and neuter clinic.
The staff in the adoption center at the reception area was rude just standing around talking. Somebody literally rolled their eyes when I asked them a question because I interrupted. I asked about a specific dog and they said they didnt have it anymore, even though I just saw the dog on their page a few minutes ago. Other than that the clinic services are great due to the low cost. Pet store has some good finds.
Lots of beautiful dogs to adopt. Theyre not the most organized. I was given mine with serious flu symptoms, ended up passing it on to the left three. Hundreds of dollars in antibiotics. But they did refund after complaining. Please adopt, you wouldnt believe the amount of abuse animals receive before they agree brought to the SPCA by neglectful, irresponsible owners. These animals need help.
I wish I could give 0 stars. I have been calling every day now since LAST Friday. There is a deceased cat on the property I manage and we dispatched them out last Friday to come pick it up. I even called the after hours number last night because the call just kept hanging up while calling throughout the day. This is a HUGE safety and health hazard here; there are a lot of children that walk around and play in the common areas here. Ive had 3 separate concerned tenants complain to me about it. After our last bad experience with the SPCA, I decided to make a review this time. 2 weeks ago we found a stray dog in pretty bad shape. Did not have the medical capacity or knowledge to help this poor dog but once it was stable we did have the means to foster it for as long as needed. After trying every other avenue we had no choice but to call the SPCA to help. They picked the dog up, gave us an ID number and told us to call the next day to find out any info they discover about the dog and how to go about fostering it. We called the next 2 days. We were told they havent found anything yet, just that he was an older dog. I called the next day and they told me they put him down. I will never recommend the SPCA to anyone EVER. DO NOT USE THEM UNLESS ITS A LAST RESORT, honestly. These animals deserve better. All their lives matter.
I called in for someone to pick up an injured stray cat and its been 3 hours since i initially called for someone to pick up the cat. I called multiple times and the operator had confirmed my address with them and she had also confirmed that someone would be sent my way but no one has shown up yet. Its the summer time and its humid and hot outside and the poor cat has to be outside until they arrive on scene.
Absolutely Horrifying. I woke up Sunday morning to find one of our dogs had passed away in her sleep and the lady on the phone literally said just to leave it there until Tuesday! Theres young children and other dogs living here too. Im still shocked by the ladys response on the phone. This place is cruel and inhumane. Im considering posting a picture of the deceased dog to remind these people why theyre here in the first place. I guess if its dead they dont care.
I adopted two cats and was told if for any reason I had seven days to return the animal. Well one of the cats was extremely not happy at all and bit me on the arm and fingers as well as scratched me and I ended up having to go to the doctor which cost me $60 for meds and a shot. Anyway I took the cat back and the same girl that did my adoption paperwork for the two cats was there so I told her Id like my money back for this cat and showed her my bite marks.I then told her you said for any reason well I think the cat being extremly violent warrants getting my money back, at that time she proceeds to tell me thats not what I said well to make a long story short after talking with the manager and telling them all that Im not leaving without getting my money back thats exactly what happened. They shouldve never put that cat up for adoption and it took me four trips down there to finally pick up my refund check. The other cat I adopted is great I couldnt have asked for a better one but they shouldve known not to adopt the other one especially since they had a hell of a time catching it to put it in the car carrier in the first place.
The staff here is really enthusiastic and passionate about their animals. This seems like the largest in the Fresno area and in being so, I think they are overwhelmed. The kennels are full and its difficult to keep clean. We got there a few minutes early on a Saturday morning and saw at least 5 new dogs coming in before they opened. We adopted that day. I hope that they can receive more support because they definitely deserve it for all the great work.
Clean, neat, orderly, and efficient. We have been here before for adoptions and other reasonsm. This visit was to drop off a wild tomcat that was beating up the other cats in the neighborhood. Checked our ID and address, got ol Denthead a vaccine, returned our cat carrier and off we went. Easy to get in and out and easy parking.
Management is horrible and harasses people, including me. I’ve been hung up on many times, while just asking simple questions. PLEASE, do not surrender your animals here! Reach out to rescues first! Always look for non profit rescues on Facebook. This shelter is very high kill and your animal will not make it out alive.
Im having the hardest time getting ahold of a live person! I rescued my dog here in July, he had a missing eye and was still stitched when I brought him home. Was told everything would be quite alright and not to worry. Well last month his stitches still hadnt been dissolved, and his eye started leaking. I was able to get ahold of someone, and brought him in. Was told that it was just the stitch and that he will be fine. They took the stitch out. For 2 weeks now Ive tried calling at different times. His eye is even worse now! How do I get in touch with someone? Should I just walk in? I was told he would be fine! I love this dog, I want him better. He is an indoor dog, wears a cone because of the eye being the way it is, there are no other pets in the home to have caused the problem. Please help.
My wife and I went here a few times over the course of a couple of weeks looking to adopt a dog. We expected to see all the same dogs, but we were happy to see lots of new ones each time as well. It seems like some dogs here get adopted right away, and other stay for a while. One dog we saw had been there for almost two months. We quickly fell in love with her, but couldnt adopt her because our dog was scared of her.On our third visit we saw an adorable little dog being walked from the stray hold area to her kennel and we snatched her up (yes, thats how fast some dogs get adopted here). We went to multiple adoption agencies in Fresno and this was the only one we came back to. We just liked it a lot better. We liked being able to walk around on our own and look at dogs as we pleased, and whenever we had questions the staff were very helpful. They also had a lot of great dogs to choose from.
NEVER ADOPTING FROM HERE AGAIN! Our dog was sick we parvo and worms when we adopted her petsmart. They told us she had worms and we could bring her home when she was dewormed. They called us the next day that she was ready to come home!! We were told she was vaccinated for parvo and not even a week home with just the puppy was so sick. The spca did acknowledge that the puppy was sick and offered a refund. We agreed, they only refunded half the money! We didnt ask for them to help with the vet bills because she was under our care, but for them to just give us half a refund was a joke. Not only did we only get $90 out of the $180 we paid for her but they gave us the run arounds for 3 weeks about the money.!
Friendly and very helpful and all the cats and dogs are will taking care of........ Will be great if they get more help from the state and donation..... Please 🙏🙏🙏 help its not just a cat or a dog..... ITS A LIFE EVERY ONE DESERVES A CHANCE TO LIVES AND LOVE 💕💕💕!!!!!!!!!!
I have taken my dog to two of the low-cost vaccine clinics. Although you have to wait as long as an hour to eventually get the shots and/or microchip it is certainly worth it! The prices are literally a fraction of what they are at the vets. If your dog is aggressive or not well socialized just leave it in the car until it’s your turn. There are literally 2 to 4 dozen dogs in the area waiting their turn and I have never seen any aggressive behavior. Once you have your number call and go into the clinic itself it is a very quick process. They also have a table set up for licensing.
Dont try to get any assistance after hours..the officer on duty lied to me and ignored any thing I had to say..i had contained an animal that bit me and he said bring it back tomorrow when they are open I was at the facility it was ten min. After they closed. he said he was on a emergency call a dog attacking children then 5 min later he pull out of the front gate and would not stop when I flagged him down.
The girl at the counter, should have gotten her name, (Asian) rolled her eyes and acted like I was inconveniencing HER. Other girl was nice and helpful. Adopted a puppy that my son fell in love with, but it had kennel cough. I am new to animal ownership, except when I was a child so I had no idea what it was. Did some googling and called they NEXT day after I picked him up and they told me I’d have to take him to the vet even though he had it on their watch. It really feels like they don’t have compassion for animals. I would think it would come natural because of where they work, but it felt like it made some jaded. I won’t be going back, but I love this puppy soooo I guess thanks.
Theres a great deal going on for the month of December 2016 where you can adopt a dog or cat for just $49! So I went there today to do just that. Everyone that was part of their staff was pretty friendly. All except the two people working the from desk. There was a man and a woman, probably mid 20s working the desk and just seemed very over it. They appeared to not give two bones about anyone and treated us as if we didnt matter and like they were on autopilot. Im sure theyve probably done this hundreds of times but this was an exciting day for us. It felt like they were raining on our parade and that the dogs lives didnt matter. Im glad I did find the perfect pup. Even if I had to jump through hoops with the guy and girl at front desk. -_-
I hate to have to take animals here cuz I know that they do euthanize, but I had no choice every other organization I called wouldnt take the cat that kept coming back to our backyard and we couldnt take him because he was hurt and needed to go to the doctor and we couldnt afford an animal doctor you know theyre freaking Crooks and they take advantage of animal lovers you pay more to go to an animal doctor then you do to your own doctor sometimes it seems. So honestly SPCA is not so bad they were sweet they vaccinated the cat and they took it to the doctor hopefully they were able to adopt it to someone else it was a good cat.
While providing a necessary service the office was crowded and Im not convinced that adequate attention was being given to locating a found pets owner. Perhaps a handout addressing whats done to locate owners of found pets would give me more confidence in their services. The owners of the pet we found were located by using an online lost pet website.
I adopted my cat Morgana from CCSPCA today. Very friendly staff and people come in and my boy is very healthy and happy! Though I will say in this review do beware of getting animals at any shelter. Be sure you know what you want and look around. Definitely satisfied with adopting an animal there and having Morgana part of our forever home! 💕
We were passing through town and found a little kitten on the side of a highway while getting gas. We stopped at three places (the first two wouldnt accept him due to zoning), and we finally were referred to CCSPA. They took our info and took the cute kitten. We thought we were leaving him in good care. Where we are from and the shelters we are used to, the animal has 30 days to find a home and if not the people who brought them in are contacted before they consider euthanasia. We emailed them and tried to keep ourselves updated because we would have figured out a way to keep her alive, even though we are on the other side of the country. After 7 DAYS, you heard it, only 7 days, they put down the kitten, citing not being able to fix her yet and not finding her a home.I am sure they are understaffed and overwhelmed, BUT it is terrible that they put him down after only a week, without contacting the people who brought him in who were literally in contact with the shelter since the day after we dropped him off. If you value the life of the pet in your care and want it to have a fighting chance of actual adoption or living, DO NOT take them to CCSPCA. I dont know much about Fresno, but the services of their animal services and shelters are lacking.
Adopted a sweet puppy, paid for extras and could not get them because they did not have the correct age when I adopted her but when I went to pick her up they had the right age and she was to young for the extras and I am still waiting for my refund on the extras. Also she had kennel cough and infection from drinking dirty water. Paid over $200 to adopt and then had to pay over $250 to get her healthy. We want to adopt another puppy but will not adopt from the SPCA again.
As a new and current volunteer, I am learning so much on the resources, services, and departments that the CCSPCA provides the public with. I have taken it upon myself to educate myself on learning more on how I can help and contribute to the CCSPCA. As I was reading the reviews some clients have left, I will definitely take into consideration how I approach and provide useful services to ANYONE AND EVERYONE who walks into our doors. Growing up, I believed the stereotype that the CCSPCA will kill your furry friend, and that idea hunted me. After taking the initiative to volunteer and find out how the CCSPCA functioned, I discovered that unfortunately some of these animals are indeed euthanized due to the lack of responsibility our society has. CCSPCA would love to proclaim that they are not a No-Kill shelter, but the unfortunate truth is that they have to take certain measures due to the negligence of pet owners who abandon, mistreat, abuse and or surrender their pets. Unfortunately the lack of space the facility has cannot accommodate all the animals coming in even with the efforts of transferring some of these animals to other shelters etc. CCSPCA would love to keep and find a home for every single animal that steps into their doors, but IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU! OUR COMMUNITY, OUR SOCIETY, AND OVERALL UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN YOU DECIDE TO CARE FOR AN ANIMAL, YOU ARE MAKING A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT. Animals are not a toy you can have for a few days, weeks, or a few years, they deserve a home where they will be loved, cared for, and not have to worry if their owner will toss them out the first time they misbehave or do something that gets you upset. My goal as a current volunteer is to eradicate the stereotype that CCSPCA is not a place to consider when your furry baby needs care, assistance, and or a service performed. This is one of the main reasons as to why Ive decided to take the first step and become a volunteer at the CCSPCA. My last advice/review, would be that if you’re not sure if youd like to commit to a long term commitment, you are more than welcome to FOSTER AN ANIMAL. When you foster you do your part in saving another animal from being euthanized, plus you learn how to properly care and learn about the different support services the CCSPCA has; who knows, maybe you find the extra love you needed in your life by fostering. Regardless of what your experience has been with the CCSPCA, (Positive or Negative) I encourage you to become a volunteer, because when you do, you contribute to a good change versus just complaining about how bad the CCSPCA is. And if you cannot foster at the moment, you can also do your part in donating or making supplies, treats and much more. On a side note, I just became a volunteer about a week ago, and let me just say, that I am learning really cool information, so I hope that after reading this you too become motivated to join and help make a great impact to our CCSPCA.
Very poor care of animals. Recently adopted a cute 10 month old terrier mix and brought her home to find out that not only was she severly dehydrated and underweight for her size but she also had an upper respiratory infection but also had kidney damage due to lack of medical care. They also spayed her and the vet that saw her after I brought her home said that her immune system was not in good enough shape to undergo surgery at the time. Needless to say no animal should be held or treated in these conditions. Hopefully my sweet new pup does not have to be put to sleep due to the conditions in which she was kept.
We adopted our first dog from here in May 2018, she is the BEST dog! The kids that work there do their very best, but the facility is filthy and disease ridden, we got lucky with her. We adopted our second dog, a 2 yr male husky mix, the day after christmas 2018, he was sick the night we brought him home, thought simply reaction to being neutered; within 24 hrs we were at the vet, $3300 later he was so sick, it wasnt fair to keep him suffering without an end in sight. We made the decision to let him rest in peace over the rainbow. We never even heard him bark, but we loved him hard for that short time he was with us. we will never use this facility again...EVER!!! They know what happened and here we are two days later and no one will call me back.
I have been looking for a puppy or young dog I saw a young 1 or old female that I fell in love with this is the second dog I have gotten here they take real good care of these animals and will recommend them to anyone I am a disabled veteran and was looking for another companion to help me.
The Central California SPCA is an amazing animal shelter that offers many services to the public for their pets. These services are easy and affordable which helps the lives of many pets in the Central Valley. You will not regret receiving the services offered by the Central California SPCA.
They will use their system to track you down and cite you for dog licenses so be aware if you get services by them. They supposedly go door to door to cite people but so far the people who have been cited that I know had their dogs vaccinated there. Their neighbors who also had pets received no citations even though they have no license and let their dogs roam. Awful. Do not go here! Go elsewhere
When you get out there they provide great services at affordable prices. Even offer low income portions for your pets. The only downside to the CCSPCA is that they have a problem with answering their phones, dont even try the animal hospital its closed and theirs no msg line. Theyre email friendly. No longer have a thrift store, turned it into a supply shop. Their adoption center is acceptable and the gals in the hospital do such a great job, their informative, kind, and go out of their way to help you with your concerns.
They were professional, fast, and extremely informative about the stray we had come across in bad shape, he needed medical attention badly as it had been attacked by another dog. They said they were going to do what they could and the dog was chipped too. They let me know that they were going to try to contact the owners who have 10 days to claim the dog, and they gave me the dogs intake number to later inquire about in the event that the owners dont claim him.I did leave the building feeling that they were going to do all they could including getting ahold of the dogs owners.Hopefully, if all goes well with his health and the owners havent claimed him, I wouldnt be apposed to adopting him.
Went to go drop off a baby bird I found at the Stray building. Went to the front desk and the lady assisting me had zero customer service. Looking around, the place was a mess. Literally right behind the front counter was a trash can beyond full of syringes and some on the floor, chemicals, a mop in a mop bucket, and trash all over the place. This is only what the front looked like, I dont even want to imagine what the back looks like. Poor animals. This place seriously needs some deep cleaning. Definitely not a sanitary place for animals. Who knows I could be wrong, but first impressions are everything.
This place is something else. I called two days in a row about a dead dog in the road and nobody came to pick it up even though they said they would. the dog ended up getting busted up by the cars so bad, a tail was on one side of the road and a leg is on another side of the road. they Dont Care about animals they never did! I dont know why this place is even still in business.
BUYERS BEWARE!!!! Very disheartened about our experience!! You would think this is a puppymill or factory. They treat these animals like a hotel turning rooms!!! Their only concern is making money!!! We visited this place and put a dog on hold. We walked away buying 2 dogs from them that day. A black G.S. that had kennel cough that we had to pay for his meds even tho he had kennel cough untreated from their facility. The 2nd dog was an Alaskan Husky. They didnt tell us the Husky breed we put on hold was dangerous around small animals. We told them we had a small dog and cats and they said if we kennel for introduction they should be fine. For the first four days they were all fine together and then late at night on the 4th day, he walked up to our small dog in a playful nonthreatening way and picked her up and shook her twice. We didnt know it was coming. They ate and spent time alone outside together w/o any problems, slept in livingroom together w/no problem for 4 days. We took him back and they said b/c we didnt do a meet and greet at their facility they would not refund us. So now they have all the money we paid for, for not only fixing him, but meds and immunizations, heartworm blood test, grooming (the works) they also have HIM!!! Buyer beware!! Ive been chasing this for over a month now!!! They said well thats what prey drive means. I said no one told me if I have small animals I shouldnt adopt him...they said well if we told you that he wouldnt be adopted...they said usually we give u a pamphlet on the breed. I said no one did that either. AND the girl that helped me owned the same breed and NEVER TOLD ME ANYTHING!! The supervisor is good at NOT calling you back as well. He has been NO HELP!! VERY POOR communication, customer service and general care about others. We truly loved that dog and never wouldve returned him if this hadnt happened. There was no reason for them to keep our money if they have the ability to readopt him out. Especially after we paid for all the care for heartworm test, 1 month of heartworm meds, all immunizations needed, and grooming and being fixed. We used to volunteer there so we thought this was a good plc to go to save not just the one adopted but another off the street. WE DEFINITELY WERE WRONG. To make matters worse, it was my 15 yr old daughters money that they took and kept. This was her dog so she paid for them. We alsp paid for grooming for the G.S. that was sick, $45!!! Which the supervisor Anthony told me to call him to schedule after our G.S. was better. He wont return my calls at all!!!
Came in today to look for my missing cat. The staff in the stray building were VERY rude. I had to say hi to them, nobody greeted me. There was a rude Hispanic girl about 20yrs old who looked MISERABLE to be there and two other guys sitting at the front desk glued to their phones...freakin millennials! The stray cat room SMELLED of piss. I understand, that this place does not get a lot of funding and is run on volunteers but come on! The floors had feces and dried piss stains. Very sad. The volunteers just sitting around could’ve been cleaning up the facility but instead looked miserable and bored out of their mind. Really hope this place gets closed down and replaced with something better.I had a friend that worked here briefly and she said that the Spca euthanizes 150-200 animals per day. Very sad.
This shelter euthanized a mama dog the day that another rescue AGREED to take her and her 4 pups in. The pups are 4-6 weeks old and no longer have their mom in these crucial next few weeks because the SPCA told the rescue picking them up that they were late. Reading their reviews on Facebook it appears that this is not the first time something like this has happened. Euthanizing a dog that is being rescued by another organization for absolutely no reason at all is DISGUSTING. Do not donate here, but do adopt so that those dogs can get out of that hell.
Event adoption staff are super friendly. I did not adopt but i was looking as a potential adopter. I visited Pet Supplies Plus on shaw and Pet Smart on Willow and the one on shaw this past sunday (1.21.18) and the staff were very friendly. Did not have too much time or i would have visited the rest of the stores. I will be going this weekend and possibly adopt a new dog.
Found homes for 2 kittens that were gonna be euthanized the day I picked them up. Just note that when you go there to drop off an animal, they have a 50% chance (at LEAST) of euthanizing the animal you leave with them. Almost everyone I’ve talked to doesn’t realize that they are NOT a no-kill shelter. That being said, PLEASE adopt! Find out what animals are going to be euthanized and take them, even if you are fostering them!
I do not like the spca for the reason that we brought bottle fed kittens that we could not take care of and all they do is euthanize them for a place that is to SAVE animals in need. They also said that they have to euthanize them because there is not enough room for them and not enough workers to take care of them even though me and my mom saw that there were like 7 people at the front desk doing nothing at ALL and I have seen people across the street from the “SPCA” protesting about 24 million animals that they have killed and not help. Their commercials Say we save animals in need and care and help them, well it doesn’t seem that way they killed 4 innocent Kittens that could not live on there own and I hope people will see this to know what monsters they are we will never go there again!!!
Sad they treat you great coming in the door but are more like a used car salesman when you have adopted they sold me a sick dog with kennel cough would not in any way shape or form guide me with after care i asked about surrender and again that used car sales person came out I WILL NEVER ADOPT FROM THIS AGENCY AGAIN for the simple reason their attitude is you buy as is and once you bought your on your own funny they act like you want your money back the money is no issue i do not mind that they keep it for food for the dogs or needs but DAM dont be so heartless

2022-06-15We found a healthy and energetic kitty in this shelter. After waiting for a few days for her to get ready to be adopted, she was infected with a deadly virus. This virus (panleukopenia) is supposed to be very deadly at 12 hours which means that she obtained this virus in the shelter while we were waiting for her. It is quite obvious they had her infected. Walking around the facility, all the animals were having diarrhea and sleeping on their own fecal matter. Our kitty could’ve been the healthiest cat in the world. Very incompetent employees, vet tech, and policies. They treat these animals like they are clothing apparel and objects. Rest in peace to our baby Mew Mew.

2022-04-21I come here to pull cats on the verge of euthanasia. Nine out of ten leave with upper respiratory infections panluek or worse. The conditions that cats are held in are very poor. Cats that are scared and traumatized are deemed aggressive and killed. Bottle baby kittens go unfed for days before rescue can intervene. The management is all about the money. This place is inhumane. PLEASE DO NOT take animals here.

2022-06-30This place is severely under staffed. Cages are dirty and you have to wait. But they care so much. They love on the dogs and understand what they need to feel safe. Its not 100% given what they have to work with its truly Gods work

2022-03-16After spending some time at this location, it is very apparent that staff and volunteers go above and beyond to ensure the well-being of all animals regardless of their circumstances. They are very committed to ensuring they find a better home than where they came from and have a forever home. I would definitely recommend paying a visit and becoming involved rather it be volunteering or adopting a pet and changing their lives and yours for the better.

2022-02-22They once offered great service, but since we are now in the Coronaverse, it is near impossible to get through their phone lines. They allow a certain number of people per day to adopt, and a limited number of surgeries per day. It is all understandable, as they need to ensure the safety of staff...but one would assume that with the changes to protocol there would also be changes to the way their phone lines work. Right now, they say they start taking calls at 8am, but if you call and are lucky enough to get through to someone, theyll tell you they are out of appointments for the day. So the whole 8am thing is a lie. Also, they can only handle one phone call at a time, as there is no queue, so if you call and theyre busy, youll just get an error message from your carrier. I understand that this place is largely run by volunteers, but that is hardly a reason to run its communications like its 50 years ago.

2022-03-23This non-profit has done so much to help out the animals and members of our community. Not only do they take in all animals and do not refuse any animal, they also provide education to the community to promote a high quality of life for animals. If you are thinking of donating or volunteering your time, this organization is a great place to start!

2022-06-28I refuse to believe all the 5 star reviews are real. Kill shelters are never a beautiful place but this has been by far the saddest, horrific thing I’ve ever seen. I have a friend that volunteered. They took pictures of the kennels… bloody stool, maggots and throw up everywhere and all the doggies stepping in it and laying there for days without being cleaned.. it’s sad and disgusting. Some don’t get fed for days. I’m well aware some of the folk that work there have pure hearts, but people are ruthless and downright evil. I rarely get upset but man… after seeing videos and pictures I cannot stay quiet and letras people to believe this is a good place. You are NOT doing your pet a favor by leaving them here, it’s their hell.

2022-02-13Very sad to see the animals locked up, but thats better than them roaming the streets and have the chance of getting run over by a car. The staff is super friendly, they seemed very busy but the staff kept professional regardless. They seemed very compassionate for the animals.

2022-05-06Called 2 days in a row for 2 sweet abandoned German Shepherd dogs by A1 basin dog park.Fed/watered both while waiting for animal control officers to come get them.Calls were cleared without ever showing up on both days.If you have a paid contract for picking up strays you should actually attempt to do the job.
