Had a great time here. Was originally meant to be in a cabin but the sound of the trains was too loud and the lock was broken on the door. (f you are booking there be prepared for the sound being loud and the cabin rattling)We were moved to a motel room which was a lot better suited for us.Comfy beds, clean room, bath was all great. Owners were friendly. Good places to explore nearby with waterfalls, the river, soda fountains and the cave. Only minus is that the noise from the highway woke me up around 7am each day but as all the motels are on the same road I assume its pretty similar everywhere.Id definitely stay when passing through again.
Beautiful!! Quiet!! Comfortable!! It was an amazing escape up into the moutains of California with The Sacramento River as your backyard and Mt Shasta as your front yard. The staff and hosts are sweet, compassionate, and reasonable people. Amazing prices for a peice of mind. My absolute most favorite retreat spot in the area. I will recommend this place to everyone I know.
Its tucked into a really pretty spot surrounded by trees, it was nice being able to walk around in that when stepping out and just needing to stretch. The hotel was pretty clean. The bed and pillows were surprisingly comfortable (we stayed for 4 nights). The people running the place were accommodating and kind. Conveniently located to anything youre wanting to see in Dunsmuir and a quick drive to Mt. Shasta city. Water pressure and temperature on demand were great. They even have a heated light in the bathroom which was especially great on the last night as it snowed. Downsides: it is next to the freeway and the train goes by there so its loud. Campers and RVs were in a lot nextdoor but there were no incidents and it was still overall nice. Wed come back.
We rented a cabin at their Castle Stone cottage Inn, which we assume they manage as it is not on their actual premises. Cabin COULD have been INCREDIBLE.....but its missing the mark for us. It was really QUITE dirty. Silverware was dirty, cobwebs all over the place, walls were dirty, fridge was dirty, nothing dusted for ages, etc. It needs a good deep cleaning and it would actually be quite charming. The WIFI didnt work, wrong password, which was annoying because we couldnt message our family without the WIFI. They proceeded to charged us an additional $40 cleaning fee at checkout....which they are clearly just pocketing as a cleaner is definitely not employed. Its a shame because the setting is stunning and the potential for the space is literally endless. Such a beautiful area and neat historical cabins. If they put in the proper efforts to clean, wed be happy to stay there again.
I stayed in The Lookout and the view is incredible from inside during the day, with a canopy of stars to gaze at night while relaxing in the hot tub and listening to the river chart its course. The owners and staff genuinely cared about the experience and prepared the cabin with great attention to detail. Looking forward to future visits.
Loved this little get away. The rustic cabins are wonderful, not to mention the view of the river behind the cabins. There is a rough trail to get down to the river, which was nice to sit by in the evening. They have a nice pool and covered hot tub there as well. We will definitely be coming back.
I love this place. My friend and I make it a destination, driving from Tacoma, WA to enjoy the rustic cabins and Maple. Staff are really nice and willing to help, which means a lot to me. I love this whole area so it gives a fun, clean and different (in the best way) place to land after hiking and you can just hang out all day if you want. Plenty of beauty and a great pool. Thanks Cave Springs, dont ever change.
Ive stayed in several different cabins and Ive loved them all. All unique in their own way. These cabins we built in the 20s, if youre looking for something perfect, this is not for you. If youre looking for a super cool little cabin, with an amazing view of the Sacramento river, close access to all of the cool stuff in this area, and staff that treats you like family... this is your spot. π₯°
Always enjoy my stay At Cave Springs. Been coming up since the 60s staying in the cabins and now the motel. Itβs wonderful having the beautiful surroundings, the pool and the hot tub. Having access To the beautiful Botanical gardens and fishing the river below the cabins is always awesome. Love this place, seeing good friends, and Louie always there with a big welcome.
I rented one of The cabins. It was quaint beyond belief, from the old gas cook stove to the deep clawfoot tub. Itβs very rustic and charming and it smells amazing and you can hear the river running behind. It was very quiet at night and had everything I needed, even down to a French press for coffee! The staff is super friendly and happy! This will be my go-to place if I need to rent next time I am in Dunsmuir!
Very much enjoyed this place. The grounds are beautiful and are perfect for those who dont want to travel away from their lodging in order to have good time. The enclosed hot tub and outdoor pool are perfect. We stayed in the vacation rental which is really just a glorified mobile home which was a little misleading, but the overall experience easily outweighs that complaint.
I love Louis and all of his staff and family. Cave Springs is the most comfortable and easy place The Hangout. The rustic cabins I wish I could spend the rest of my life in, I hope someday Louis gets so busy that he needs a man to hire and calls me because I would love to be part of that family. Lisa, Dorota and Jasmine, you all made me feel so comfortable and at home when I was going through my rough stage and it made all the difference in the world to me I love you all
My partner and I booked a cabin last minute at cave springs after realizing that we wouldnt get up to Mt. Shasta on time to set up a tent before dark. The hosts were extremely accommodating to our last minute request, let us enter our cabin after midnight, and even left the fireplace on for us. Louie also spent an incredible amount of time with us the next morning describing various hiking routes and restaurants. His advice MADE OUR TRIP. It is obvious that he truly loves the area and he is very tuned into the best things to see at different times of the year. The cabin we stayed in was very rustic, but it was cozy and definitely suited our needs. The cabins are clean and do provide soap and plenty of fresh towels. The kitchens are fully outfitted and have everything you might need to cook and wash dishes. This was a godsend in the morning. It was really fun to cook our breakfast with the backdoor open to the view of mountains and the Sacramento River rushing by.
This place is amazing if you are not into any sort of luxury. it is built 100 years ago i suppose. It is super outdated. But I wanted to enjoy country side living for a bit. Also there is creek right in the backyard. You will love how the whole place is surrounded by trees and greenery. I took off 1 star since it is right off i5 and the TRain tracks. you will hear this sound at the night most. Mornings were totally fine. First nigth we could not sleep but later i guess i got used to the sounds from the highway and train honks....
Great stay. Very easy to get to off the highway. Air conditioning worked well, beautiful rooms and well appointed kitchen. Dunsmuir itself is incredible; we watched the kids play with local children in the park while guitar music drifted over from the local micro brewery. Highly recommended.
Friendly welcome, slight discrimination based on appearance and choice of payment. Beautiful nature surrounding the cabins but the appliances and dishes were rusty, spider webs even in the shower. But thats only if you really care about the appearance. This place is on sacred native land, the focus this small town needs to work on is customer service(as one who assists in running a business and made the mistake on assuming the financial stability of customers), take more updated pictures that resemble a lot of Hollywood films, disney films, pixar, dreamworks, etc. And make deals for travelers that come here for the original purposes that this town, area, and county was built for in the first place...challenging and building our spiritual beings, mentality and wellness.
Update 2020: We stayed most recently in cabin #10. The fridges are now on the back porches, which give the kitchens more room. It just adds to the charm. There is a picnic table and BBQ for each cabin. We enjoyed a lot of time on the front porch, in the lovely rocking chairs. The pool was cool, the neighbors were polite and friendly, but left us alone. Perfect as always! We love Cave Springs. There are a lot of stay choices to make. They have a hotel, hundred year old loggers cabins, and more modern vacation rentals. We have stayed in all but the hotel. The cabins are quirky and not at all for perfectionists. This place is one of a kind and worth the adventure. We go back any time we are traveling from Oregon to California. We most recently stayed in Oak vacation rental and it was very spacious. There was air conditioning and a back deck with a hot tub. This unit has windows facing the forest behind the property and you can hear the river far below. They provide a full kitchen for cooking. This place is family friendly and there are many multi generational family visits. We really love this place.
Booked two nights sight unseen! What a lovely mix-use property! We stayed in a motel room which was spacious, well-appointed and clean. The owners live on the property which is just up the road from the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens (a must see) with the Sacramento River running along behind it and the gardens.
This place has very nice rooms and very nice thick towels. The beds were great and the customer service couldnt have been better. The property was amazing i different want to leave. Access to the river and the cave spring was a plus plus plus. And thank you to the staff and owners for taking pride in what you have there. We will definitely be going back.
We love the Cave. Weve been staying there for years. Its a charming relic of the day when the I-5 freeway was the 99 and was just two lanes through the middle of town.So the Cave Springs has quite the history. The proprietor, the charming Louie Dewey, is a character and he gets up early to shovel snow so we can go snowboarding π and skiing β·οΈ at Mt Shasta board and ski park!
I stayed here for vacation with my father over two summers. I was 9 and 10 years old approximately. I am 58 now and I still have great memories. The river for my dad to fish. The pool with the slide i spent hours there. And most of all the friendly people who ran it as well all the people who stayed. Now we drive past it on our way to Oregon and every time I look over to see and wish we were stopping there instead.
Itβs a very cozy little place with some nice private little houses that are available as well. There were games, movies, plenty of blankets (itβs very cold in the winter), and plenty of things to cook with in the small kitchen. Outside is very beautiful and itβs within walking distance of a beautiful waterfall that you get to by walking the train tracks to the north. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Very comfortable cabin on the Sacramento River. We stayed in the Lookout cabin which has a kitchenette, fire pit and hot tub (!) all of which were very useful. Room was not spotless but acceptable.Excellent dining at Yaks just a five minute walk away. Waterfalls are just a short walk.As well.
We really wanted to stay there for Christmas. I called and spoke with Louie who said he was going to see about a possible cancellation of a cabin reservation so that we can have it to accommodate my family instead of the regular rooms. He promised a call back but never called me back. I called a couple of times and each time the person who answer the phone had no idea of anything going on with the reservations and Louie was no were to be found. Luckily we were able to find something else. We drove by on our way back from skiing and took some pictures. Maybe next time we have better luck with management. It looks like a nice rustic place to spend some time away from the city.
This place was amazing. Not only did they take our emergency reservation because of the Carr Fire but they where acomidating, kind, and are extremely child and dog friendly. The cabins are also well kept and very comfortable. We plan on making this a family vacation spot.
Great location, feels very private even though you are right by the freeway because of all the trees. Very nice views of Shasta. It has a pool and slide and hot tub. The cabins were built in the 1920s and look it. They are kind of a patchwork of add-ons and fixes. The beds are great, so if you dont mind the look of a tad-bit run-down house, its a fantastic spot.
Old time motel/hotel with clean rooms, newer mattresses, a nice pool and landscaping and a friendly one owner family type feel. Nothing fancy but well priced and they have real glasses in the rooms instead of paper or plastic. We have been staying here once a year for over 12 years.
Ive been staying at cave springs for over 20 years and until the last couple of times it has always been enjoyable. The rustic cabins are enjoyable and quaint...but, the neglect is becoming increasingly apparent. The roofs are badly in need of replacing, there is dry rot in most of the rafter tails and siding, and the crooked slanting floors are questionable. Hopefully no one falls through and injures themselves. What really got my attention the last time was noise in the walls, which sounded like insects...and I discovered and killed an airborne termite while lying in bed reading. Im a retired general contractor and I am well versed in what it takes to do proper maintenance and repairs on a facility like this...and I can honestly say that the lack of attention of the years has become obvious and appalling. I may have to find another place to stay when in the area...
It was beyond filthy! Super unfortunate. A little elbow grease would go a long way. The smell of gas was overwhelming. It rained and the roof leaked, ran down to the outlet to where my phone was plugged in! Extension cords on refrigerator. No smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detector. This place is unhealthy and unsafe! Super sad because the area is a gem, visit but dont stay here
For a no-frills motel, this exceeded expectations, with a clean (if not tetribly modern) room, great and helpful staff, excellent location and a very comfortable mattress. Adjacent to a city park with river access and extremely dog friendly. And a hottub available 24 hours a day. If you are comfortable with a slightly shabby, older motel I would highly recommend this one.
Fun and funky reclaimed cabins from days gone by. Definitely a vintage feel here. Cabin overlooking Sac river. Neat location next to Dunsmuir City Park with Botanical Gardens and kids park and picnic area worth a visit. Also near Hedge Fall...a really cool waterfall. There is a pool and hot tub. Just be ready for vintage...things are a bit creaky and askew in the cabins. Other accommodations available, such as standard rooms and larger manufactured casitas that look really neat, especially the Lookout, with an impressive view of Mount Shasta!
Every year since 2014 my wife and I have visited Cave Springs and have stayed in nearly everyone of their single bedroom cabins. We always look forward to staying here each year, sometimes we come up a second time later in the summer. The owners, Louie and Belinda Dewey, are helpful, wonderful, and accommodating. The most of cabins themselves are perfectly situated overlooking the Upper Sacramento River and because of this the temperatures stay much cooler at the cabins than even the entrance a couple hundred feet.Front porch coffee in the morning is the best!If you are into railfanning, from the cabins you can hear and see the trains run along the river.Because of the speed limit trains have passing through the curving mountainsides you can drive from the cabin, once you hear a southbound train, and and beat the train to the Dunsmuir Station so you can watch them pass through or see a crew change. The cabins are perfectly located to access Mount Shasta, the PCT, and Lake Siskiyou as well as to take a day trips to Crater Lake and Ashland, OR.
Pretty sure this is a major spot for Jason to come and catch you in your sleep. Almost every door or window has a crack or is broken or doesnt work. Not sure why you would ever want to stay here. You can tell when a place is not well taken care of. Sad really. I feel bad for the man that put in his hard working hours, painstaking labor to make this place. What it is today is not what it was and just to see it come to this, very sad and quite heartbreaking. Place is needing more tender love and care then you can ever believe. Please fix this s***. Dont come here.
Stayed in a vacation renral, Cabin 1. It was truly a gem, hidden away, just off the main resort grounds. Cons: A lot of noise from I-5. Wifi signal was a challenge to get. Pros: Adorable. Fully stocked kitchen. Awesome bathtub. Neat collection of DVDs. Mostly private, though another home sits above it. Pretty well hidden away. Walking distance to Yaks and Botanical Gardens. Other info: BBQ and picnic table outside the cabin. Space heater, no electric fireplace. Couldnt see a cooling unit, but visited mid October, so maybe it had been put away. It was rather chilly. Bedding was okay. Floors could have been cleaner. Very pleased. Would gho back. Cabin was $99/night plus a $40 cleaning fee.
I stayed in the cabins, the motel rooms might be nicer. The roof sagged and leaked in 2 places, so the floor was all wet, there was a hole in the ceiling from where a chimney used to be that was covered with a paper plate. Heat was provided by a plug in space heater, but the electrical was so sketchy I was afraid to use it, and there were no smoke detectors in the cabin. Wifi didnt really work. There was only a tub, no shower, but it wouldnt have mattered because there was no shampoo or soap provided.I honestly think these cabins are uninhabitable. The river that runs out back is really nice.
The rustic green cabins are a throwback to better times and the era of road trips and highway resorts. Fantastic place, though be prepared for the few amenities in the historic, classic cabins. No phones (a plus, though expect 5 bars of cell phone service and wireless broadband internet), and cramped kitchens are more fun than youd think. The sound of the river, fantastic flyfishing, the down to earth Dewey family that owns the place, and a charming downtown with world class restaurants (try SengThongs and Maddalenas) all add up to a relaxing vacation.

2022-03-01Great location, with choices of rooms from cabins, motel rooms, to full sized manufactured homes.Conveniently located at the edge of town, and just above the river, youre only a 2 min drive into downtown. Another plus is the picnic grounds and city park, just below the resort (walkable from the resort itself) Quiet, beautiful, with great ownership. Pet friendly! Thanks to Louie!

2022-05-01Cave Springs is my go-to spot for both short and long stays in the Dunsmuir area. The rooms are comfortable and a relaxing, hot shower is perfect way to stay warm during rain and snow. The property is nestled in a naturally gorgeous setting and provides plenty of opportunities for relaxing walks, jogs, and rides. The owner is quite personable and had great recommendations for exploring the area. Looking forward to the next visit during summer.

2022-02-13Great place to stay. Close to the shops and within walking distance of Yaks. The only thing I would suggest is to bring a Bluetooth speaker or another way to be able to listen to music as they have cable TV with no music channels and there are no stereos or anything to hook something up to so you can listen to music. Me being an avid listener of music and not a very big TV watcher was a little disappointed, but I was able to get a Bluetooth speaker at the dollar general down the road. All in all it was a great time.

2022-06-24Beautiful setting, a slip away from Yaks on 5 (best burger Iβve ever had) and a hilarious, kind owner. Louie is incredible.

2022-01-02I wish I could give 10 stars. The property is peaceful and the room was comfy. Cant beat it for the price. What made it amazing was Louie, the owner. He went above and beyond to help me and his personality was refreshing. There should be more people in the world like him.

2021-09-13My family and I go here at least every 6 months. We absolutely love it. What a wonderful slice of outback comfort. They have small mini cabins up to whole houses for nightly stay. The priceβs are reasonable. My only two complaints would be there is non smoking units, and they really need some love on there trees. But as an arborist I see this a lot.

2021-04-11My son and I stayed in One Cabin Hideaway for a few days over his spring break. This one bedroom cabin is very cute, comfortable and secluded. Youre a quick pop over the hill to the main property if you need. Sadly we were there during covid so we couldnt check out the hot tub, but we knew ahead of time. Youre at the bottom of a slight hill, completely surrounded by the woods with the river in the background . Yes, you can hear the road traffic, but it didnt bother us too much. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking and baking goodies. We left a few tools I felt were missing behind.Louis is a wonderful owner with a fantastic team. We cant wait to visit again!!

2021-07-08Great resort if you like the wilderness experience. Lots of trees throughout the property. They also have cabins and vacation rentals. They have an awesome lookout point overlooking the river and trees. They have basketball, swings, a slide, horseshoe pit, and a ice cold pool. Very refreshing. The staff was nice and very accommodating. Took one star off because boyfriend tripping over old faucet in ground by pole. I brought it to owners attention so hopefully it will be fixed soon. Other than that it was an overall great experience.
