The real taste of the French pastries! I for the first time taste the real French pastry flavor out of Paris. The seating outside the restaurant where the fresh air close to the ocean is just amazing. This cafe is awesome, a little expensive but I believe for the taste and the location it is certainly worth it.
Fun local coffee shop ( Really... they do lunch & more) Yummy coffee. Decadent Pastries- (almond croissant!!!) Light Euro Centric fare - outdoor patio on Pier Plaza 5 doors down to Hermosa Beach Pier. Pier Ave here is walk in only. Park in structure or lot to the North. Dog friendly & a beautiful setting w/ no cars driving by
Great place, wide selection of quality pastries, salads, juices, snacks. Excellent service, reasonably priced, great location. We need to support our local restaurants, this place have been there for many years and they maintained their standards through these challenging times.Tip them well!
Cafe Bonaparte is just on the edge of being good, and just bad enough I won’t go there if I don’t have to.The food is alright, but not nearly good enough for what they charge. I’ve been to this cafe a few times now, but today really made me see that the restaurant / coffee shop does have problems. Previously I’ve ordered coffee and some of their special pastries or salads etc. However, today I ordered an iced latte along with a bagel and opened my laptop.I asked but apparently this place has no WiFi. So I placed my laptop away, not a big deal, but then it came my order. The bagel thin as a pancake from going through a panini press, and the latte about as good as a standard Starbucks latte (not very). If a business wants to position themselves as a higher end cafe with decent food and not an Internet / hang out coffee shop, they should at least follow it up with food that warrants the prices. This pair was more than $9
Love this cafe!We live in Hermosa Beach and stop by Cafe Bonaparte often. The service is always prompt and friendly. Their coffee is always excellent and they have a fantastic selection of really tasty quiches, pastries and deserts. We always look forward to our next visit.
Great coffee and service, food was so so. My cafe breve was perfect. The yogurt was nothing special: boring granola and not high quality yogurt. My husband had the quiche which was just ok. There were several pastries but they looked like they had been sitting in the case for awhile, so we didnt try any. But a lovely location and certainly worth it for the coffee.
Amazing. Took advantage of a group on deal. Ordered the almond coconut, pumpkin spice, and chocolate peanut butter oh and the gluten free chocolate. Loved them all!! My favorite was the chocolate peanut butter and the gluten free was so moist and flavorful, you wouldnt think twice that it didnt contain gluten. 3 thumbs up for Cafe Bonaparte!!
We bought a pain-o-chocolat and a napoleon and threw them both in the garbage. They both tasted as if they had been sitting around for a few days. The pain-o-chocolat was dense and completely dried out. The napoleon had spoiled strawberries inside. I see a lot of positive reviews, and I assume the issues may be due to slow business during COVID. I recommend keeping closer track of age of goods until business picks up.
I stopped in here in need of an emergency iced coffee after another local establishment set me over here. I resisted getting a quiche though I regret it now. The staff was super friendly and nice and got through the line in no time! My iced mocha was delicious and the 2 espresso shots did their job, and 2 thumbs up on using Lavazza Coffee!
It was terrible. We ordered a mocha latte, several pastries and quiche. The service was terrible .. pastries and coffee were served first, the coffee was already slightly warm and half spilled. We waited for a quiche for 30 minutes or more, we were not given it until we reminded them the third time, all the coffee was already cold. Pastries was so so..
Before leaving this I went here a few times assuming it was just a bad day. So I gave it time and they found a way to make it worse. This place is in so desperate need of a barista. A latte is not coffee with boiling milk on top where you can’t even touch the cup. And talking to the employees is like talking to a brick wall. Nobody is home. This last time they got nothing right with my meal. And when I told the employee, she agreed and said sorry. Then just took the food to the back. No refund. No ask to have it remade. Nothing. That was it. So I was left standing there. I’m definitely making sure I don’t recommend this joint.
Wow , wow, wow! Visiting from Illinois (west of Chicago)We were recommended this place by our Lyft driver and Im so glad she did. The desserts are amazing! Unlike anything Ive ever had. The quiche was to die for! Then the coffee, so great and the fresh squeezed orange juice. Weve come back every morning so far and we arent even anywhere near it, thats how great it is.Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Thank you for a great place to eat ! :)
My coffee was barely warm, but the pastries looked legit.Edited after 2nd-chance visit: The staff here have a serious attitude issue. I really wanted to like this place (my husband is French! I love France!), but I was made to feel like I was asking for the moon when I asked for French bread and a strong coffee... Urgh, the Parisiens are known for being rude AF. Maybe they are a little too authentic in that sense.
A very diasappointed experience. Today a young lady cashier was beyond rude since the minute we placed our order. At any question we had, she responded with a “humm?”Not even for a minute she was polite or let’s say professional trained to deal with customers. After finishing our coffee and dessert, I proceeded to ask for the bathroom key, again I asked her for the key, and her response was “hum??” So a young man working next to her said, sorry but the bathroom is not working since the morning” I said really?? I just saw somebody coming out of the bathroom, they start laughing at me on my face!I saw the coffee place has cameras, I would ask the manager or owner to please review Today’s video and see how unprofessional his working staff is, and how disrespectful they are towards some customers.Thank you in advance for considering retraining their staff to treat the customer with respect regardless of race, gender or religion.
It was the best until we were served by an unpleasant lady who sold us more foam than coffee and took half an hour to make them apart from the fact that we received bad treatment from her. I have worked in so many cafeterias and I have never seen them sell you foam instead of coffee and Mistreatment by the vulgar and ordinary rude manager, what kind of administration do they have. Leaves a lot to be desired is a disgusting person yelling in front of other customers
A small corner of France 11,000 km from the house, on the Pacific!, the boss being French and thus offering us pastries, pastries or salads and other snacks sometimes Americanized to please the customers..contained prices, very nice little terrace on the pedestrian mall to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere and the passage of surfers or runners or even skaters!a very suitable place, no noisy crowd, cozy, at very moderate prices, and a price / quality / location perfect for a break, or even a breakfast in the sun!

2021-07-09I stopped here on the way to Hermosa Beach Pier for coffee and a salad. Really nice and homely feel to it. Dining both inside and out as well. Service was great, and quick; not pricey at all. The seating outside is roomy and inviting, and with a wonderful veiw, it was tempting to stay there all morning.

2022-06-14Cafe Bonaparte is a staple in Hermosa Beach and walking distance from my office. My team and I will order their fantastic desert, my favorite the Napoleon, and enjoy the views of the Hermosa Pier. Great local spot.

2022-03-03Really good food! Pastries, toasts, and samosas are delicious. I come here semi-frequently and will continue to do so. Desserts are also good to get around 3/4 pm and keep in the fridge until after dinner to eat.

2022-06-12Coffee is ok. Breakfast was good & the pastries for the chocolate croissant was amazing, cinnamon twist was little dry. But the service was so weird!! We ordered & asked them more than 3 times to bring the order. We waited for the coffee more than 20 mins! & we’d to remind them during to bring the order. I mean it was just cup of coffee. Not sure if it was a busy day. There’s no crowd & the staff didn’t bother to apologize or explain the lateness.

2022-04-16Went in for an iced coffee assuming it was a cold drink and got a cup of hot coffee with ice in it. Was very surprised to get a watered down coffee and then when asked to swap the server did the math on an incremental $2.86 to up charge me for Cole Brew. Not a great experience.
