The vehicle was so dirty and you could get high from the pot smell left behind. There was no sticker on the door that shows it was sealed after cleaning. This should have been an indicator that it was not cleaned, but we were in a rush and had to go and could no longer wait to exchange the vehicle. If you get a car without their sticker on the door frame, dont take it.We ended up spending 30+ minutes just cleaning the car ourselves when we got home before loading the car to head out. We couldnt drive 5 hours with the windows down just to help get the pot smell out. When we opened the center console, there was a bunch of pot leaves left behind from the pervious driver. Well... good quality control. Thanks for the lesson learned, Budget. You wont be at the top of my list from here on. If anything, Ill avoid you at all cost.
Absolutely a scam. Rented a car that had the gas tank open and engine light on the whole time. Called and they said keep driving it. It finally died after being turned off and had to be towed back a day early. Guess what? They charged MORE than agreed on by $205! Ridiculous and unprofessional. Don’t ever rent a car from them. They have no desire to help or fix their mistakes. They just steal the money and run. Save yourself and rent somewhere else!
Budget was great. Finding the car isn’t an issue. Dropping off is a little time consuming once you’ve made it back down to enter….“The Labyrinth” a small maze of horribly placed orange cones, leading you on a full underground excursion. It’s quite possible I used 1/8 tank of gas, driving around searching for Budget, which I had actually passed, but had no way to enter without driving the full length of the lane and have to come all the way back again…Twice!I think the same person who placed the cones works for the TSA upstairs, as the lane features are similar. Be prepared!
The car recieved was clean. Settings were not reset on the screen/phone connections, so made sure to reset upon returning the car.Staff at pick-up and return did their job. They did not express joy in their customer relations area.I give 3 stars for this reason.....I returned the car with less than half tank but more than a quarter tank yet I was charged for an empty tank refill. It was a mid size SUV not a full size so to fill up it shouldnt have taken $106 even at the rate of $6.60. I was robbed. And to top it off I cant even see my receipt, when I download it says file may be corrupt, when I try to print, the page is blank! WTH... robbed I tell you.Idk if Id choose them again or just at this location. Either way I walked away today as a not a fully satisfied customer.
My car had a dead battery. Emergency service was hours away and no new car delivery. Had to spend money on Ubers all day. When I returned for a new vehicle that was guaranteed by the customer service in the late evening the line was around the building and I was told they might not have another vehicle for me. No offer for reimbursement.
Reserved and pre paid vehicle rental online and when picking up they did not have the type of vehicle I requested. They try to tell me I had an upgrade but the luggage room (which is why I chose the Full Size) was a lot smaller and could not accommodate all the luggage taken so had to utilize the rear seat and this made it uncomfortable for rear passenger.Very disappointing experience.
Very disappointed in their services. When we booked the car we were told that we would owe the tax portion of the rental fee. Upon pick up we the total was ove3r double the total I was going to owe... pulling up the email they honored that price and they offered the eztoll transponder for $50 for the entire rental time. So we went on with the rental. When we dropped off the car (which we forgot to fill the tank but very aware of this charge) we were told that we would get an email of the receipt. We had no clue what extra fees we would see due to the fuel fees but just received it and the charge was again extremely high considering we only had the fuel charge and the $50 ez toll fee. When I call the gave me a different price for the transponder when I fought on that the person puts me on hold and comes back reducing the bill to only the fuel. I dont have a complaint about the customer service because both times theyve honored what they said. My complaint is the lack of honesty from the company I would hope everyone is looking at their receipts and not paying the insane prices they bill for
The car I rented frim Budget broke down half way thru the trip. Battery was shot. It required using AAA and having to spend an hour and a half getting a new rental car at nearest airport. While trying to resolve situation, no Budget representative at any airport answered the phone. When I called the Budget emergency roadside assistance phone number, the number was not good. The AAA person said Budget is notorious for its rentals breaking down. Will never use Budget again.
I have rented a car from John wayne santa ana for 6 days. Left friday morning and arrived in Utah same day. Saturday on the way to ski lesson the car started smoking while driving up the mountain . it is not even high up to powder mountain . we were told that they cannot come and tow because i can still drive the car . roadside assistance will not come. plus the office in Riverdale close at 2 pm I cant make it in time because I was in between my ski lesson. and sunday will be close as well . only 1 option was to drive 50 miles to salt lake city airport to exchange the car. we just have to take risk driving there ( I was told to do that cause they will not come if the car still running. which we did made it to the airport) . After i swap the car to a new one, ready to leave the parking lot I rolled down the window to give the ticket for exit. The window doesnt roll up . We have to pull back up to the booth and walk to them and let them know that we need a new car. such a hassle. I was mad because that was the last car thats the same model as the first one . I complain that we have drove all the way here to change the car and we have to drove back to our cabin in Eden. Finally she gave us a full size car. we use that to whole trip and went to Zion too. Came back I made a complaint again because they should have been more service for customer and not to let us take risk driving the smoke car to change just because the car was still able to drive.. bad experience for first time user.
After we returned our rental car I realized that I had left a newly purchased gift inside the car. I ran back to the counter and Darlene was so helpful. She went out of her way to personally go down to the garage and look for it. Thank god she found it and was my life saver! Thank you Darlene!!!
I feel completely cheated. At 10am on 4/21/22, the woman at the desk incorrectly signed me up for Loss Damage after I declined everything extra but satellite radio. You are rushed to sign. Blindly signed the agreement and now I owe $125 in insurance coverage I never asked for or needed. And I never even got the satellite radio on the rental.
The rental car we received had issues within hours with the remotes not working consistently. We would be driving down the road, and get a notification that no remotes were detected. But we were not in a position to return the car at that time. We did our best to make it work. When we returned the car, there was a little sand in the back of the car from our beach trip. Nothing excessive, and pretty normal for a vacation to the Southern California area. I received a letter within a week saying that we were being charged a $250 for a cleaning fee, saying that the sand was excessive. They provided me with 3 pictures to support their charge. The sand in the pictures is minimal and further confuses me why they think it supports their charge. This will be the last time I ever use Budget or Avis companies.
I usually like renting a car from Budget. But this time at the John Wayne airport, I had a very bad experience. The person at the front desk was not cooperative. I wanted to cancel an existing reservation and book a new trip. The person said that it was not possible to modify/cancel and tried to overcharge. When I gave him my credit cards he said they were not working swiping it twice. I asked him to try the third time and he said that would be the last time he would try swiping. He swiped and it worked. I had to attend an important appointment soon after picking up the car. He gave me the wrong keys to pickup. When I went to the assigned parking the car was not there. I had to get a new car assigned from the Avis desk which is near the pickup. This was my worst ever experience with Budget.
Based on my interaction with this rental location (Budget at John Wayne Santa Ana Airport SNA) I cannot recommend budget at this location. They did not have the car class I requested ready. They also provided a vehicle with damage that was not already documented and told me simply to take a picture which was not sufficient when I dropped it off at LAX.I waited at least 45 minutes to get the vehicle class that I had requested even though I am a fastbreak member.Had I not been a Fastbreak member, the line inside the airport (which I also waited in just to confirm that my reservation was set up under fastbreak) was incredibly long and there was only one agent there who looked miserable and apparently was supposed to have left already. I have included the pictures of the documented damage taken in the parking lot of SNA.
No Hassel. Quick response. Quick effort of customer service. Convenient access to the vehicle we were assigned. Excellent vehicle. We enjoyed our Toyota RAV4. We had no trouble with the drop off/ return either. The best car rental experience Ive had when traveling without my husband
Got a flat tire, should have been easy to repair for free but I was rented a car with tire tread so low, it couldnt be repaired. Called the emergency roadside number and waited on hold for 35 minutes. I was told I had to buy a new tire and then submit the receipt for reimbursement. When I returned the car I was told I would not be reimbursed at all because I didnt pay for the damage waiver, I would be out the $248 I had to pay for the tire at 5:00 on a Saturday evening when I should have been at my family reunion. After arguing my case, I was told I would be reimbursed, but for only $200, not the $248 I had to pay out of pocket. The tire repair guy said he couldnt believe a rental car company would allow a car to be rented with tire treads that low. I was on the road for 6 hours with my family and I feel we were not safe. The tire receipt even says the original tire could not be repaired. Budget doesnt seem to care about the safety of their customers.
When we arrived the front counter was very nice. However being it was around 9pm and we just needed to get on the road we noticed that the car rental reaked of smoke. When we finally called to let you know the agent said we could exchange the car. REALLY!! On a busy holiday your agent suggested that we bring the car back and exchange it!! That was not ok. What would have been acceptable was to give us a discount and reimburse us part of our rental. I did tell the gentleman upon return that the car smelled of smoke and when he checked he was surprised.
The whole experience was awful. No one was friendly, there is no direction. The car I was first given had a dead key fob, went back to the desk said they dont change the batteries, so I had to get a different vehicle. Was given a huge pick up truck. Upon picking up the truck the whole cab was filled with garbage, there were scratches all over. On the second day the check engine light came on, so that put a damper on our travels had to wait to Monday to return it. Never again will I use Budget.
I was told at the counter that the prepaid gas service was more economical. That was not the case. The price difference I estimate at $25. Obviously the rating is less than 10 for value. There was a mistake I caught when dropping off by one extra day of rental. I pointed this out to the counter when dropping off and they adjusted and gave me a refund. The transaction was fast and the personnel very helpful and pleasant.
I booked the trip via Expedia and already got charged the collision damage waiver for $50.00 through Expedia. At the counter, the agent basically tricked and upsold me another loss damage waiver for $17.00 per day. Also when I received the car, it reeked the smell of cigarettes and we had a toddler in the car with us. Even without the toddler, I think its unethical to rent out a car that reeks the smell of cigarettes to any customers. Anyways, I had a terrible experience with Budget and will not rent from this company ever again.
I NEVER leave reviews, however, this was a special kind of horrible experience. Started at LAX, had to wait in line twice because the first rep assigned my family a vehicle that was out of rotation. Next, we are finally assigned a vehicle that was stickey, Gas tank was not full, change oil light was on, and the key fab would not lock the car. The rep would not allow us to leave without purchasing second party insurance, so there was another $100 they charged us wedding need butthe rep wouldnt listen. We left LAX hoping for the best and went to breakfast and unlocked the car with the key and the alarm sounded and would not turn off. Embarrassing! So we head to the Santa Ana Airport wait 45 minutes to return the vehicle, and it has been another hour to get a second vehicle. As I am writing this review we are currently waiting for a vehicle to start our first family vacation in three years. This has been an extremely stressful and disappointing experience. I will never work with Budget again. I know no company is perfect, everyone makes mistakes but this should have been a simple return and swap and instead we are sitting in a busy parking garage instead of the beach. Awful.
Tells you to bring the vehicle back full of gas or you will be charged. I bring the vehicle back full of gas and they still charge me. Cooperate PR when you fill out their survey is quick to respond with a sorry note but offers to do nothing about the issue. Replies to the e-mail go unanswered as well. I will not be renting from Budget again.
Linda and yolanda at budget rental are rockstars. It is crazy busy at the airport, tons of people upset, but linda was amazing giving great service w smile and a good humor. She was kind and willing to help even when there was a small hiccup with my reservation. I would rent here again without a doubt. Ive rented cars dozens of times and this ranks among the best experiences with staff.
Was offered an upgrade but the price was not given until after the completion of checkout, Having booked a reservation on online for a specific price and seeing the cost double i was not happy. After questioning the higher amount charged to my account I asked why there was such a big difference. I was not satisfied with the explanation and left. Upon returning the car I asked to speak with a manager who could only ask if we had agreed to what to upgrade and that the price difference was correct. Not happy as I feel deceived with how the process handled and that no one cared to see my concerns.
First car was dirty and had an overpowering smell of smoke. It was disgusting. When I went back to the office they said they didnt have another option for us onsight so wed have to wait for one to be brought in. There were plenty of larger vehicles but wouldnt upgrade us. Eventually talked the agent into a full size sedan. This car was also dirty and smelled. Returned the car full of gas but see that I was charged $19 for fuel... why?
It took me over 1 hr to get into my rental car and drive away from the airport...not because it was crowded but because the employee who helped me was having computer/software issues and all 3 computers he attempted to use didnt work and finally he waited for another employee to finish with her customer and asked her if he could use her computer. Then when we finally (after 35 min) got the paperwork for our car, we ended up with a car that the metal clips that you use to hook in carseats were missing. The emblem was on the seat showing the hooks were available but they were nowhere to be found. So we had to go get an employee and wait for them to come and check it out. Sure enough they said the hooks were not there so they said they would give us a different car. So we unloaded all our baggage and stroller and reloaded it into the new car which was definitely a class down and much less nice than the first car and our double stroller and baggage barely fit and we had to put some of it under our kids feet in the backseat. The employees didnt seem to care about the hassle and were not very helpful at all.
I am very disappointed with the customer service and the condition of the vehicle I rented. I rented a luxury SUV and when I got it the interior was so gross! The interior of the car was not cleaned or even wiped down. The windows were so dirty They had a thick white film so you couldn’t see very well. When I got home to load up the car I had to clean all the windows and wipe the entire vehicle down. There was sticky residue in all the drink holders and on the seats. There was food and I don’t know what all over the center consul and doors. The entire vehicle had stains everywhere. It was so gross. I didn’t notice most of it until I got out of the parking garage. The trunk stopped opening when we got to our location and then it would sporadically work. It was so frustrating. I would have brought the vehicle back but we were headed on a long vaca. So I cleaned what I could myself. Then when we turned the vehicle we were automatically charged a refueling fee but we brought it back full. The Budget clerk said and I quote “well the company knows but since it’s extra money they’re making they are not really in a hurry to fix it”. What!!!!!! Wow you call that customer service. You know you are charging people a fueling fee when they have already refueled the vehicle! I saw it on my receipt so I immediately went inside and that’s what I was told. So if you don’t look at your receipt they are hoping to pull a fast one on you! So look at your receipt before you leave.Even when I told them the condition of the vehicle they didn’t care. I couldn’t believe it. If I were you I would go somewhere else! Like to Enterprise! I have never received a vehicle in this condition from them. I only rented one from Budget because they were sold out the dates I needed a vehicle. I will never rent from Budget ever again and I am reporting them for the known fueling fee charges they apply to all returned vehicles with out checking the fuel gauge.
Usually a pleasant experience picking up and dropping off car. Nice folks. Reserved an SUV and that was not available at pick up time. I was put in a 2021 Ford Mustang. As soon as I left the lot there were transmission issues. I decided to drive it the short distance to my destination hoping it was a fluke. Nope. Transmission completely failed on an uphill grade. Had to pull over and try to find a gear that would take. Transmission also skipped on acceleration at every stop light. Attendant informed me this was a recurring issue with this make of car. DO NOT TAKE THE FORD MUSTANG at all costs.
The gentleman that filled out the paperwork was very polite and friendly. I couldnt have ask for a nicer vehicle for my trip. I small compliment is with the organization of the waiting line. Some that refused to wait and was just the same rental agreement as everyone else, would cut through line ahead of everyone. Not your companies fault, but if I was working the counter would have explained to them politely that they need to wait inline with everyone else. Not a huge problem for me but some families with little kids shouldnt have to wait extra time because of someone that thought they didnt need to wait. All in all a very pleasant experience with your rental company and will diffintly be using you again.
We were given a rental that was infested with sugar ants. Unfortunately, we didnt realize this until we were in Malibu, and it was too much of an inconvenience to return the rental for a different car. We had to take the rental to a car wash and thoroughly vacuum out the interior and trunk of the car. The ants were coming from the vents and trunk. We spent $10 in vacuum charges, as well as 45 minutes vacuuming and cleaning the interior with alcohol wipes. As a result, we were able to control the problem, as long as we did not have any food in the car. I am very disappointed by this experience and talked to an agent when we returned our car, but their response was that they would simply spray the car to kill the ants and thanks for the info. I paid more than I would have to rent from Budget, but I will take my business elsewhere in the future.
I always use Budget and you can see that I frequently rent with you on fastrack. I had the worst experience on the drop-off at Santa Ana John Wayne airport. First they forgot to check in my car, the agent guided me to the end of the line. We had to repack our bags that took at least 20min to half hour and then I realized the agent never checked us in and had to advise them of their mistake.I asked him if the total was the $230 that I made the reservation for (3days) and he checked and said yes. I asked for a receipt that he could not give me which was a first as I always get a printed receipt. Now I know why, the end total was $322.72. I guess I was charged an additional day because I returned the car 2 hours late, I am not going to dispute that but I was charged $9 for fuel (1 gallon) when I just filled up prior to returning the car, I will dispute this charge with Budget. Basically I felt ripped off by the Budget staff at John Wayne. I have never had this experience at any other Budget location or not even at prior visits to Budget John Wayne Orange County
Car was filthy. I had to clean the inside and outside of windows to be able to see and vacuum it out because of all the dog hairs. My mom is allergic to dogs.....I had to borrow a neighbors car once I got to parents house because I could not take my mom anywhere in the car. I called a local budget to swap out and was told they didnt have any cars they were sending all theirs to the airport. It was horrible. I spend my time to clean and money to sit and not be driven. I will definitely not recommend Budget !!
Helpful in that the representative helped change my reservation. I mean, they wanted to take my money for an extra day, right? Of course they were helpful. However...Hard and fraudulent upselling practices at the counter:Do you want full coverage? No coverage at all for me thanks, my card and insurance have me covered. She put me down for basic coverage. I said no coverage. I had to catch it on the screen. Its cheaper because we get the gas cheaper than the street.Oh, do I only pay for the gas you have to fill?Yes.Another lie, as she tried to charge me $84 for the full tank, which I would not have needed. She tried to upsell me everything possible, which might be good for Budgets bottom line, but she lied to get the sale. Due to that, I didnt trust anything she said, so I didnt want any other services from the company. How can I trust they wont rip me off again when I need roadside assistance?Oh and the e-receipt comes in an unreadable format. So shady.
Budgets online experience is very poor. Too many problems. Phone support people are very difficult to understand since they speak with very strong accents. I was sent an e-receipt which was completely blank and had no information in it so I dont know what the final amount or receipt actually is. I have no idea, aside from wasting 45 precious minutes more on the phone with Budget support to find out what the final bill is supposed to be. Budgets website just doesnt work properly and isnt interested in fixing its many problems. It takes far too much time to do simple things like change a booking or find out what the final receipt amount or invoice is. Budget clearly doesnt care about the online customer experience. Until it gets better, I have to look for another rental agency which doesnt cause me to waste so much time on small things.
Hour wait to get a car. Staff are rude and unhelpful and wear masks with the bottom straps cut off so they just flap around while they talk.It took a full extra hour to get a car because the size we reserved was not available, which is a bit shocking when we reserved a standard size.Got overcharged an extra hour ($55) because Budget counts the time from the original reservation window, now the time we actually got the car. They also count the time youre standing around trying to find a return agent even though none can be found.
At $100 per day for five days, the car (Kia) was the most manual car I have ever seen in my life. I didnt realize they made cars where you have to use the actual key to open or close since the 70s. No seat adjustments except manual. Just very expensive for what we received. Also, the second we pulled out of the airport, the gasoline level was at 3/4 of a tank. Not full. We returned the car over full. The cost for five days was over $500.
While the folks at the desk were nice. I waited at least 30 minutes to get my car. While others got their car and moved on. A manager even came to talk to me. Regional I think. I was also charged a 200.00 dollar deposit. for incidentals. for what?I am fastbreak. Will be looking for and using other options in the future. STAY AWAY.
Your service desk was kind and helpful. I was given a good rate for renting the car for 8 days. The car was a good size and comfortable, clean and new. Easy check in and out. Helpful service learning how to work the car and load my phone for safe handling while on the road.
I reserved a VW Passat or equivalent way in advance and lo and behold, only car left when I picked up was a Toyota Corolla. I was however given the price of Toyota Corolla and NOT PASSAT prices. I did not have a choice. the line was really long and a lot of irate Avis/Budget customers waiting for their cars. I also did not opt for the FASTRAK tolls which is about $10/day but I found out several days later that I was charged when I was reviewing the bill. This should be disclosed just like declining insurance.
I paid 310$ to rent a Tahoe 2021 , then they give me an Tahoe 2020 with over 50,000 miles on it with very old tires and the car brake it was bad i find it out later when i drove it . when i told they employee about these issues she was careless about me and she did not pre checked the car with me ,also she said we can’t guarantee the year and the model !!!!! ( i already called the customer services before 1 day of my pic up time to confirm am gonna get what i paid for !!!!! and they said ok sir your car is ready for you !!!!!) . the employe told me that what we have for you if don’t like it you can pay more to upgrade your rental car . i cant’t change to another car cause i was very tight with time and the money to go with my family for a trip and i thought your company they gonna help me out and make us happy but all that was disappoint and disrespectful.
Ive been renting from the John Wayne Airport location for 5 months, the customer service that Ive received was excellent. Susan, the rep that initially helped me with my first rental has always been available and made my experience easy and trouble free. The other team members at the location were friendly, professional and made my rental experience easy and quick. I will be renting from them again when Im back there. Great service!
As a FastBreak member, I was able to quickly pick up my car. I was also given a complimentary upgrade for being a FastBreak Member. It was an easy, effortless transaction. I had expected to wait, and people were waiting, but I was able to bypass the line. The team was busy but very friendly, answering the few questions I had.
I rented and paid for a car rental through travelocity and paid for insurance. My son was to pay $156 at pick up and someone at Budget added all the additional insurances without my sons approval. They charged him more than what Travelocity said and then added on all the extras without approval and then billed his card the full amount, which was more than double what I had already paid. There is no person to talk to and no way to reach them. They charged $1700 for a $700 rental. I paid Travelocity $195 for the insurance that budget charged $255 for. I have no idea how to get any of it changed and hope this saves someone else from the extortion that occurred to our family for a simple car rental. Budget gave my son a non working phone number to call if he had problems also. HE DID NOT ACCEPT THE EXTRA INSURANCE THAT WAS CHARGED AND IT IT 3 DIFFERENT CHARGES THAT TOTAL $744.44. BEWARE if you decide to rent with them as they added non approved charges.
*UPDATE*Company returned $135.36 for their extra charges.DONT USE MILITARY DISCOUNTWil charge fee for fuel up option ($120) not including fuel - supposedly free for military. Also -Took ~45 min to even get the car.Car wasnt cleaned - at all. Will charge for entire day if youre 38 min late ($72).Estimate was $653, bill was $911. NEVER AGAIN.
OVER CHARGE ! Budget please call me about over charging me. I fueled up the car and took a video for proof in front of Budget of the entire car and fuel level, being told they would do this. Called customer care waited over 40 minutes with no answer. Tried the leave a number for a call back with no returned called. Please do not blame it on Covid It was a Ford Edge returned 4/14/2021
Car was damaged and when I picked it up, customer service didnt want to come review the car with me, and it wasnt a small bit of damage, but the whole side skirt was missing on the passenger side. Once I got in, the oil change warning came on. When I returned the vehicle at 6am, I had to spend at least 20 minutes finding the key drop off box, and at least 4 other renters were also looking for the drop box as well. I do not recommend renting from this location.
When I arrived at SNA around 11pm, there was no car available in the category I booked. However, the very nice agent (sorry did not get his name!) suggested a couple of options. Because I was mainly planning to drive alone, he recommended a Kia Soul and I loved that car. Moreover, that saved me ~30% of my quoted original price. THANK YOU!
I rented a car in California and returned in Medford Oregon; I called budget to ask what are the charges for returning the car at a different airport, they refused to give me the price saying they can only tell me once the car is returned. I spent 4 hours on the phone with different people wasting my time. They knew the price and refused to tell me. They Knew i needed to return the car at 4 am and nobody will be at the airport. They told me to leave the car in the parking lot. I did.I received a bill of $1,200 extra for returning the car in Medford. They took advantage of the situation.Go to Vroom Vroom for better service and better prices.
I declined coverage and them to fill the car with gas because I have full coverage insurance and and I wasn’t driving much so I could refuel. They charged me for both. Customer service was horrible. After reading reviews on Yelp, this is a known scam of theirs. Don’t rent from them!!!
I wish I could give less than 1 star. The staff promised to wait for my flight to arrive. They didnt. We were directed to Avis, who we caught leaving out the back door and didnt want to help us. A manager was finally called, who came speeding through the garage, obviously annoyed at have to do his job. The manager added coverage we did not ask for. He also set the a/c to 90 and turned the seat heater on high, a very petty and unprofessional thing to do on a hot evening. We had to exchange the car 2 days later because the battery would not hold a charge. I would not recommend either Budget or Avis. Terrible customer service. Defective vehicles. Unprofessional management.
Everything was great until my car wouldn’t start on our last day headed back to the airport! I am a loyal Budget Fastbreak customer and have never had any issues with my rental cars not working correctly. We drove it minimally (18mi), never turned on the lights or left lights on in the interior and when we went to load up on our last day to head to the beach and then to the airport our car was completely DEAD! Luckily the hotel staff was able to jump the car because roadside assistance was useless!! We wasted so much time waiting on hold that we had skip the beach and just get the rental started and back to the airport. There was no way I would chance it dying again and really stranding is somewhere. I told the staff about our issues with the car and they said they would “run it by their manager” to see what they could do. Well, they did nothing. Instead they tried to charge me for gas after I told them that the car was NOT working and there was no way of knowing if I could turn off and restart the car. AND the fuel line said it was FULL! I called customer service when I got home and all I got was a half apology, a refund of gas that wasn’t even used and a $30 voucher for a next rental. Next rental?! Why would I choose to personally use them again when they can’t even keep their vehicles functioning properly! I have a several decades old car that has never died on me because of a battery (they tried sting “oh, it happens!”). I upgraded to a nicer rental and all they could give me was $30?! What an insult!
Brought car back on a full tank of gas, F for Full. The Budget employee in the return slot asked for a reciept for proof. A reciept? Do you have fckn eyes??? And whats with a additional hold charge on a credit card?????? Thats why its on a credit card...... Im done with this company.
I had a recent rental at SNA, John Wayne Orange County Airport and everything went well other than the counter was very busy. However, in spite of that the wait was not too bad and they took good care of me. I almost always use Budget and they are usually on point and work well for me.
The representatives at the counter were discourteous (one overtly so & the other, less overt). I & my wife drove there in our car and after finding the Budget rental location, we looked for a place to park temporarily (my wife needed to come in, so she could be added as an additional driver). After finding no open parking slots, we parked to the side in front of the rental office, and out of the path of any cars (there were none coming or going at that time), with the hazard lights on and my wife still sitting in the passenger seat with the engine on, ready to move for any reason. When I go in and was talking to the service rep, the second service rep shouts rudely at me to ask if the car outside was mine (absolutely no smile on his face, plus a mean demeanor). After I say, that Ill move it asap, he starts yelling at me for parking there and says it was blocking the pedestrian walkway. I realized it was true and I immediately go out and move it a few feet and out of the pedestrian walkway. After coming in, he again starts berating me for not moving my car completely out of that location. Now I understand there are rules, however in spite of my efforts there were no available spots open, so I tried the best to stay out of anyones way. However there is a civil and courteous way to talk to a customer- someone who picked to come to your business out of many other choices. It does not cost anything to talk politely. Instead this person was on an ego trip. So I try to comply with his orders, and the first service rep comes out from behind his desk to guide me to a more suitable parking spot. He quickly realizes that there are no parking spots, so he guides me to another spot, exactly like the one I was in earlier to the side of the path, but in a different location. We go back inside, and his attitude turned snarky when I declined the optional insurance overage, even after he kept pushing me to buy it. My own car insurance covers rentals too. Overall very disappointed.
I prepaid my rental for a great deal. I was telling everyone about. During my 8 signatures/initialing I asked if there was any additional fees. He said just the toll booth fees and convenience fee. Fine. Got my bill and there was a $460+ insurance fee. Called and they took 50% off, but that still makes it a bad deal and possible scam. Never renting from Budget again. I traveled for 12+ years as a consultant. Never ran into that problem with National or Avis.
We had called ahead of time and spoke to someone about our situation. My BF was going to rent a car down in the SD location so he can get to and from work the next day and I was going to lend him my car later in the evening so he has something to use for a longer period. The plan was for me to return his rental at my local OC location on my way home from dropping off my car to him while his car gets fixed. It didnt make sense for me to drop off my car to him in SD and have him take me back home in OC only to drive another 2 hours to go back home so we decided to get a rental for a day so he can go to work early and I can drop off my car later and drive the rental home and return it at a local Budget. I couldnt be with him tonight to be added on as a driver, but Ive been able to drop by any Enterprise offices to be added on as a driver or add others as drivers whenever we needed a rental so I told him to check if we can do that with Budget. He called a number he found online for Budget Car Rental at the John Wayne Airport location. He spoke to someone about whether I can go to the Budget office in OC to show ID to be added as a driver while he picked up the car at the SD location and he was told that was possible. After getting the greenlight I made plans to stop by the John Wayne Airport location and timed it when he would be at the SD location to get the logistics out of the way and save me any stress tomorrow.Surprise, surprise when I arrived at the Avis office (Budget is at Avis) at John Wayne Airport I was told my BF has to be present for me to be added on as a driver. I had his confirmation number and explained he was in SD picking up the car now and I plan on returning it at the OC location tomorrow and they can speak to him to get whatever they need. I can understand their concerns that they can be speaking to anyone over the phone that will instruct them to add me on as a driver, but my BF was present at the SD location while I was at the OC location and it is asinine that company supervisors at each location cannot speak directly to each other to confirm both of our identity and obtain authorization for me to simply be added. The supervisor at the OC location was extremely flippant and argumentative that my BF didnt speak to him when he called the Budget/Avis office so it wasnt his problem my BF had a conversation with someone that told us I can be added as a driver at my local office to save us time tomorrow. He acted like my BF was mistaken and talked to the wrong company. Why would we waste our time and efforts and make up some story? Someone with the company needs to update listed phone numbers online because we called and spoke to someone at Budget. There was a logical fix and they were unaccomodating. Extremely poor customer service.
I sent an email already about my experience. I still have yet to receive any follow up from a week ago. Understaffed and not enough cars for all who reserved. We waited over an hour after we got our luggage because the poor lady there was all alone. We were second in line! She tried to charge me an extra fee for a different car because you didnt have the car I reserved and became very rude when I politely declined a larger car.
Was given a Dodge challenger with bald tires, you can see the wire exposed from the inside of the wheels. Tire blew out while driving with my family putting us in danger. Called roadside assistance through rental company, was notified 90 minutes after the initial phone call that a tow truck would be arriving in 45 minutes, replaced the tire my self and returned the car for another the following day, taking more time of my days, in the condition that those ties were, that car should have never been let out the lot, that is just reckless putting myself and my family in danger like that.
Great deal for a nice vehicle. Only problem I had was even being a Fastbreak member, there was a 20 minute wait to pick up the rental ( John Wayne Airport Santa Ana) due to some miscommunications from the main desk and the desk at the pickup point in the garage area. Also when I returned the vehicle even the attendant said gas tank did not register as being refilled and I had filled the tank, so I needed to go to the desk and show them my gas receipt. There was a bit of a wait for that to get corrected - however I always allow extra time when returning a vehicle at the airport. No additional charge was made to my account, so this was resolved correctly.
Total waste of time - such a frustrating experience. It took over an HOUR to pickup my car - they didnt have the car I specifically reserved. They kept saying they were bringing the car around for a good 45 minutes and then informed me that they didnt have any convertibles on hand. Despite everything, I was pretty nice and calm about everything. But I specifically requested a Mustang even if it wasnt a convertible and the lady kept trying to upgrade me to a Jeep Wrangler and I said no. To top things off, as were wrapping things up - the lady hands me the keys, I walk out and realize she gave me the keys to the Jeep Wrangler instead of the Mustang. It was just a MESS really. Was such a frustrating experience all together and I dont see myself renting through Budget again.
We rented a Jeep Wrangler, and the oil light came on in the middle of our trip. We had to get an oil change while we were on our trip, which is something that we should absolutely not have to do. Budget should have changed the oil before renting the car out to customers. It took about half a day out of our vacation to figure out what to do and where to go for the oil change. Customer service was not that much of a help either.
I have been a loyal Fastbreak member for close to 4 years now, and this is the first review Ive ever done. When filling the car prior to returning it, I had an issue filling the car full. The pump would continue to turn off as if full, but the gage read just over 3/4 tank. I tried many times with no success. Upon returning the car, I explained this with the receipt in hand less than 10 minutes old.The response from Eric the Manager was take it back and try it again . SERIOUSLY!?!? Knowing Im here to catch a flight..... The charge from Budget to fill it was minimal and really my concern, it was more about the principle of the matter. I am a creature of habit, and loyally continue to use a service when satisfied. I am now searching new vendors. Thank you Eric, have a great day!Respectfully,Mike C
My vehicle was great. However, the service I received after dropping off the vehicle was something to be desired. I filled my gas tank literally 5 minutes from John Wayne Airport, so I know the tank was full. I dropped off the vehicle and the gentleman asked if the tank was full, I stated it was. He also checked the fuel amount and I asked if there was anything else he needed from me. He stated NO and that he would send an E-receipt. I received the E-receipt and there was a FUEL SERVICE fee of $17.99 on my bill. Not understanding why I contacted customer service, where the Customer Service Agent questioned where I purchased the fuel and how much I spent, how many gallons, etc. Excuse me, I had the gentleman look at the fuel gauge prior to leaving and he stated everything was good and asked if there was anything else he needed from me, which his response was NO. Now I am being questioned about the FUEL SERVICE FEE that shouldnt even be on my bill? This is the first time we have used Budget and the last time! Get your processes down better and dont just apply charges to the receipt that shouldnt exist.
The vehicle was nice, but I was charged $45.63 for returning the car 1 hour after the 1-week deadline. Thats ridiculous. I could understand a few dollars, but $45 for an hour is not good customer service. In fact, good customer service is to provide a one or two hour grace period for someone who has rented the vehicle for a week. For that, I won’t rent from Budget again.
I made a reservation online for 27 dollar a day, went to this place and the front desk was rushing and told me they don’t have a regular compact and they would give me a free upgrade. The guy was rushing over everyone of my questions told me not to worry and even I kicked or burned down the car would be fine. I left cuz there is no point since he was rushing me anyway. The time came when I returned the car, I ended up paying three times more! I was so angry!I made online reservations to rent a car from dollars down the road, they were busy too but the manager took care of me and fixed my price when he realized I already made a reservation. There you go!
The car was great but the people are greater. I am impressed with how they worked with my particular situation in renting a car while mine was in the shop. They saved me money bringing the car back early when they didnt have to. I extend professional courtesy in my business on occasion and its nice when I receive it as well. I will be renting from Budget again soon. Thanks again! Frank Santa Ana Ca.
Waited in a long, slow moving line to get the car. Was pressured to upgrade about 5 different times, was then given a free upgrade which i was appreciative of however the car had a very strong smoke stench and i was with my husband and my 18mo old son. We dealt with it the whole weekend because we didnt want to go back and deal with the line. We had windows open in the rain. We left windows open for days and the smell didnt even slightly go away.
The line at the airport counter did take longer than I would have liked but everything else was great. Once we left that counter, it was really easy to get the car. It was a Toyota Hybrid and very clean inside and out. We filled the tank on the way to the airport and dropping it off could not have easier. The staff was very friendly. I believe they just need additional staff at the indoor counter to make that process as smooth as the rest. Will rent from them again.
Unless you like getting scammed, dont rent from Budget at John Wayne Airport, especially if youre a woman traveling alone. How do they treat their customers? By adding insurance to their contract after I clearly denied it, then not taking accountability for their error ( I use that word lightly), refusing to remove the additional charge and basically telling me customer beware, you signed it, you own it - tough luck. Its a sleazy way to make a buck IMO.
This was our first time with Budget at SNA and we waited 45 min total in line and getting our car. We booked through Costco Travel and the price was super cheap. Please BEWARE AND CHECK YOUR FINAL RECEIPT WHEN YOU RETURN THE CAR. The check out lady tried to charge me an extra $25 for gas. Our tank was full and we declined all services when we rented the car. I’m glad I checked the bill otherwise they would have gotten away with it. I’m guessing I’m not the first person they’ve done it too especially those in a rush.
This was my worst car rental experience in over 40 years, although a lot of it was the fault of John Wayne airport. It was a half mile walk OUTSIDE from my arrival gate to the rental desk; the next day it was pouring rain and at 72 it was not a good experience. The rental car desk was empty at 6PM, inexcusable, and there were no airport personnel around to ask for help. A sign referred to downstairs. Downstairs where? A couple and myself across the street went over to the garage (A) but all the elevators were closed with plastic construction sheets. the taxi drivers were not helpful. No SIGNAGE telling us where to go. We wondered 1/4 mile to another garage (B), those rental companies were not helpful. We walked back to{A} garage and walked down the exit ramp and found the AVIS/BUDGET office. INEXCUSABLE. The staff was efficient but tired. The parking slots were not consecutively numbered and were scattered all over a huge garage. I could not find my car and had to return to the office for help. It was a quarter mile from the office.
Read what you are signing! Reserved a car from Budget at the John Wayne Airport. A stressful experience with long line and one person working the counter. When asked if I wanted vehicle protection I said I did not. Contract was printed and attendant hurriedly marked the five areas that needed my initials. When returning the vehicle, receipt showed a $68 charge for a Loss Damage Waiver. When looking closer at my agreement, all of the protection options of personal accident and effects, emergency sickness plan and supplemental liability insurance were shown as declined as I had communicated. However, there was one line item marked accepted for loss damage waiver. Budget at the airport could not help me and suggested I call the main number. Customer service advised I did sign the agreement and really did not seem to care about my issue because of that.Did offer to knock 15 percent off the charge in question but refused to waive line item in its entirety. Bottom line I know I am responsible after signing the agreement. I feel I was burned by deceptive business practice whereby an employee used the hectic process and long line to Budgets advantage. I am quite upset because of this. Next time, when using a different rental agency, I guess I will read all the fine print which will definitely inconvenience even more those standing in line behind me. Lesson learned.
The representative at the booth was wonderful. She recognized me from the past few times I have rented a car in the past 3 weeks. I totaled my car so I’ve been renting from budget(3 cars to be exact in 3 weeks time). The representatives at the John Wayne airport has been helpful, professional and remained positive during their busy hours. Well done!
I called and let Budget know I would be picking my reserved car up later in the day. When I got there they had rented my reserved car and I was forced to upgrade. I ended up spending almost $100 more than my quoted price. I strongly felt like I was being taken advantage of. They were very smooth with their words, and not budging with the fact that I had to pay more. I won’t use Budget again.
I am handicapped and have difficulty walking. I was taken to budget from the plane in a wheelchair. There were no chairs to sit on while I waited, leaning on my cane. After doing the paperwork, he handed me keys, pointed in a general direction, and I left hauling my suitcase. Fortunately, someone parking a car for you saw my struggle (after I had walked a long way looking for the car) and went and got the car for me! I would never recommend you to anyone with mobility issues!
This place is absolutely horrible. My wife made all the reservations and prepaid for a car for four days. We got off the plane with two kids and wound up waiting in line for 30 minutes behind a whopping two people. Behind the counter, two people were chatting on the phone while one incompetent fool was helping customers. I was amazed at his ability to handle this position at all given his very limited grasp of the English language. When it was our turn, we were offered every rip-off feature possible from extra insurance to gas packages. We declined every single thing he offered. I remember getting tired of saying No over and over again. After this ordeal, I was asked for my credit card so that they could put a $100 hold on it for damages and what not. I was assured this would be refunded twice. After returning the car four days later and returning home, I checked my bank account and noticed I had been charged $165. I called them to ask what had happened and was told that I had opted for insurance and that was why. I looked over my bill more closely and damn, it did say I accepted insurance for $9/day. I explained that I had declined that and that either way, $9 times 4 equals only $36 not $165. She became agitated and said their were other undisclosed charges that I agreed to. I stated that I had declined everything. At this point, she basically told me to F off and hung up. My wife and I have called back several times trying to get this sorted out and we always get the same response. They are busy, grumpy, and very very stupid. It is also worth noting that we barely drove this car at all, did not damage it, detailed it and filled the tank before dropping it off. In my opinion, this company is running a scam on unsuspecting tourists. They are horrible, despicable people and I would rather pay more to another company than use this crap hole again. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE.
Attendant was rude, I asked if there is a Fast Break line and she told me to line up with everyone else, so I wonder why I have Fast Break! I rent twice a week and been getting bills for toll that is costing me hundreds of dollars a week. I dont mind the $4.00 toll but they charge $25.00 for each transaction, it is crazy. From now on I will lease a car with a Fast Trak which will be much cheaper than Budget. So no more rentals for me
Spend a few extra dollars and dont stand in line for an hour to get your car. Service rep decided to waste everyones time to tell stories of people who should have bought insurance even after I refused. I was the fourth person in line and I had a reservation ready, but still had to give all of my personal info and it took over an hour just to get through everything and actually get the car. Which had sand and chips inside. Dropoff process was quick, but I would never recommend Budget to anyone just given the terrible pickup experience.
Cars are always clean and location is great. However, this visit was not.As another reviewer stated, there was a line and only two counter reps. Plan on a 20-30 minute wait if you arrive after 12pm.Our issue:At check-in we were told gas pre-pay is the norm. Weve always returned with a full tank of gas because its cheaper. We were told to show our gas receipts to the attendant, upon return, and they would initiate a credit.Attendant said we had to go inside or call to get credit. He didnt understand why the counter keeps telling customers to do this when theres nothing he can do.Budget, please get everyone on the same page and return the option of return with full tank. Thank you.
The entire process of renting the car was very easy from start to finish. Arriving at the airport and getting to the rental counter was easy. They were so helpful and friendly. The car was clean, smelled good, full tank. A week later returning the car was just as easy, follow the signs right into the parking garage for rental cars and you are immediately greeted by someone as they check the car. Hand you your receipt and off you go.
I can’t thank Araceli enough for her amazing customer service both in pick-up and drop-off. At pick-up, my car never showed even though I heard her talk to some people about getting one over. Demand for cars were very high that day. Once she saw I was still waiting she got one for me ASAP.At pick-up, she had advised me to refill the tank all the way if possible, so I took that advice. When bringing back the car she made the change promptly and even remembered me from a few days before.Thank Araceli.
I drove less than 20 miles using barely any gas yet am charged 17.99. I looked directly at the gas meter and it showed full. It literally did not move in my less than whole day with the vehicle. I had reserved a full-size vehicle and got a large suv because that was all that was available. Ridiculous. Never renting from you again. Extremely disappointed.
I travel for both business and personal reasons= sometimes I want rental charged to business card, and sometimes to personal card. Budget app allows two cards and a chance to choose either card when reservation is made. I just learned after run around and multiple phone calls that Budget will only allow one credit card on a profile and so I keep getting my personal card charged for business travel. This means I cannot get reimbursed and that I am not covered by our corporate insurance while I have the car Customer service said they can’t transfer charges to corporate card and the only way to make this happen was to return the car and re-rent it. It is absolutely astonishing to me that in 2020 Budget would have such an inflexible and non customer friendly policy, with no understanding of the way people operate. Needless to say I will NEVER rent from Budget again for personal reasons.
The majority of staff seem confused. Also, I returned my one day car rental three minutes past the 24 hour mark (mostly because it took *them* four minutes to scan my car) and I was automatically charged an extra $35 for another hour! I was able to have this charge taken off by a manual adjustment, however just be aware that Budget does not offer a grace period and it is at their discretion if they charge you or not.Ive been renting cars at John Wayne airport once every week or two for the last year, usually through Alamo. This was my first and last time with Budget. Ive have never had any problems with Alamo. I will make sure I continue to use Alamo in future.
Budget is a good rental car service with fair pricing. However, I feel that they could spend a bit more time cleaning the cars before they go out. I understand that the current situations regarding Covid-19 is a hindrance, but this has been my complaint for years......... For what its worth.
The desk agent was unknowledgeable about car upgrades he was up selling. He ended up charging us more for a vehicle in the same class (standard SUV). The sad thing is I preferred the original vehicle we were assigned. I actually looked up the SUV dimensions and it was smaller in size than our original vehicle. The point was for a larger size, not smaller. After we got to the “upgraded” vehicle I realized it was probably the same class and didn’t have time to go back (due to waiting for keys too long) so we just dealt with it later. It also stunk like cigarettes and dog. It had something spilled in the cup holder. The additional star is for the guy who did refund us the money later. He did an excellent job and waived the 45 min extra time charge we incurred. But there is no way to call this location which is stupid. That’s mostly the reason for the low rating. Even though associates are not handling calls on site, the service was slower than expected. I also lost an item and have no way to contact the location other than filling out a form that just sits online unattended to for more than a week.May revise rating if they get back to me about lost item.
I really enjoy renting from Budget as they have served me and my family well both nationally and internationally. The vehicle we received this time was concerning as it had a bumper challenge and lots of dings. The car ran well and served its purpose. The folks at the Orlando Fast Pass desk were engaging and helpful after a bit of a wait. I will continue to rent from this company as they are helpful and usually expedient.Thank you.
By far the worst rental place I have ever been to in my life. After arriving at the airport, I preceded to the rental counter. There were about 10 people in line and they had one employee on duty. After waiting an hour and a half I finally made it to the front of the line. I must say, the gentleman at the counter was actually really nice. He got all the paperwork in order and sent me to the garage to pick up my vehicle. When I got to the garage I had to wait another 30 minutes because they couldnt find the car they had assigned to me. They finally gave me a different vehicle. The vehicle was an absolute mess, and the center console was busted up and broke. Having already been there 2 hours I was tired abs wanted to get on my way so I took the vehicle. Upon returning the car I followed the signs to the return area. I parked behind a row of vehicles that were in the return line. I unpacked my luggage and no one from budget was to be seen. After waiting about 10 minutes an employee came up to me and literally the first thing out of his mouth was Thanks for blocking my walkway. At this point I lost it. How dare you treat your customers like this?! I would pay $100 bucks a day extra before I rented from these people again!!
Good friendly service. Competitive pricing in association with Costco. Car was clean, easy friendly return. Because I have trouble with walking, an employee drove my wife Carol and I to the upstairs check-in area. WOW!! What a blessing. Budget at John Wayne Airport ROCKS!! Many thanks to Budget and their SNA crew.
Reserved my rental vehicle on their website and pre paid the full amount prior to my trip. When I picked up the vehicle they told me they didnt have the one I reserved in stock and so they were going to upgrade me for only $15 to a bigger vehicle. The customer service representative was very deceiving and did not mention that it was $15 PER DAY. He also told me it would be cheaper to have them fill up the gas tank upon return. They ended up charging me DOUBLE the agreed upon amount for my rental. When I called to dispute the charge they only refunded me a few dollars. I will not go through them again!!!
Booked a Ford Edge (or something similar) originally, with a car seat. Arrived to pick up the vehicle, and Darlene (representative at the front desk) said she could get us an upgrade for the same price we originally booked. So of course we said okay. After about 45 minutes of small talk and standing there, our total ended up about $300 more than what we originally booked, so we were completely deceived and flat-out lied to. After a long day of travel, we did not want to go through another 45 minutes of going back to our original booking, so we went on our way to frankly just not let the process diminish our vacation. When we booked the vehicle, it was stated that all car seats are installed by certified professionals, however, when picking up the newly upgraded vehicle, there was no car seat installed. When approaching the desk to let them know, the man simply handed us a car seat and stated “I don’t know anything about car seats, sorry.” So we had to instal a completely unfamiliar car seat ourselves into a more expensive rental that we didn’t even want. Long story short is, it was without a doubt the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had renting a car, or dealing with any customer service in general, quite frankly. I am going to write a truthful review on every website/app/page I can find regarding this service because people should be warned to avoid it at all costs.
I have never had a worst experience at any car rental place ever. We waited in line for over two hours while the employees kept coming and going instead of taking costomers. There was only one person at the counter while the line was out the door of the airport. My reservation was messed up instead of trying to fix it they thought it was best to just tell me I should cancel it. Then when I said no I needed a rental car they told me there was nothing they could do. I had to update my own reservation and come back in line and wait for another 30 minutes. After that there were zero problems but this took 3 hours out of what should have been relaxing vacation time.
We rented a car to drive from Anaheim to Vegas. We made the rental on the phone. When we got to the counter, we were told that there was snow in Vegas and that the highway patrol would not let us pass in anything other than a 4 wheel drive. We were forced to upgrade our vehicle... Which was a gas guzzler... The weather was perfect on the way to Vegas and while we were there. And there was no indication there was bad weather anywhere. Im upset at having to spend so much extra on a car we didnt need and so much extra on fuel. They saw us coming and took advantage of our trust in their expertise.
Terrible service. My rental had a tire going flat so the best they would do for me is send emergency road service to put the donut tire on. They wouldnt trade out the car and when I turned the vehicle in they wouldnt offer any discount. You cant call and talk to the actual location when there is an issue you end up talking to India customer service which was useless. Dont rent from Budget at SNA
Absolutely unacceptable! Would have given zero stars if I could. We placed a reservation with Budget over 2 months prior to our travel for premium SUV because we needed room for 7 passengers with luggage. We even pre-paid because we wanted to be sure we had our transportation set up. We arrived at the counter on time when we were informed that they did not have a vehicle for us. They did call around to other Budget agencies to see if they had one available with no luck. Tried to give us a Kia Sorento and told us it was equivalent to a Suburban or Explorer XL. I called the 1-800 customer service number and had to deal with their off shore support until I had them escalate to someone who would get involved to find us a vehicle. After 30 minutes on hold someone finally came on and stated that they could not help me and that they would cancel my reservation and I could see if I could get a vehicle from one of their competitors. I had to acknowledge at the time I made the reservation that my pre-paid reservation was not refundable if I cancelled. Budget can cancel and leave you stranded and told to go fend for yourself. After 2 hours of dealing with a company with no desire to hold up to their agreements we were approached by the rental agent at Dollar rental and he said that he found a vehicle for us and made us a deal for $100 less than Budget. So my advice is to take Budgets own advice and start with renting from their competitors. Dollar Rental is a good starting point.
The van you rented me to drive from California to Arizona had bald front tires that were worn way below the wear bar on the tires and had chunks of rubber missing from them. I am supprised that I made it and did not have a blow out and get in an accident. I took pictures of these unsafe conditions and will be talking to corporate about this. this is unacceptable for a rental vehicle.
Budget was fine. Hyundai is not. I made the reservation on line for the low end (compact) car. Pick up went smoothly. I was given a Hyundai Accent. It was tolerable until I found out it got less than 25 miles per gallon. (Hyundai says the Accent gets 30 plus) I filled it up before returning it, but was told the tank was not full. After a protest, the agent reduced the fee amount to equal the real gas prices in the area, instead of the $7.99/gal I was charged. It was then I heard from all the agents that the Accent does not get good mileage for the size/type car it is, according to other renters. Wish I had known! Thank you for the fee adjustment.
I have used this Budget Car Rental location for every rental car for the last 3 years. They are great! But the pricing for gas is ridiculous. I brought the vehicle back 2.6 gallons less than it was at pickup and was charged $25.97. Thats more than double the cost at the pump.
I love this location for Budget rental car. You dont have to take a shuttle off airport, its located in the parking garage. We arrived earlier than the time I had reserved it for, almost an hour, and just had to wait about 10 minutes until they could get a car for me. Returning the vehicle was a breeze, you literally just take it in the airport garage, park it, and someone was right there to check us out. Thats what I love most, being in and out so I can be on my way.
The service agents were rude. They attempted to sell various add ons to the package and when declined they were condescending stating well good luck such as to the extra insurance. The agent then said people end up needing it in California implying it was more than likely we would need it. We filled up the gas tank and when returned the agent cited 12 dollars extra for the tank not being completely filled. We didnt see the tank indicating below full however we didnt have enough time to argue different. The agent responded and said well Ive seen people charged with like 30 so 12 is not bad. He also called my daughter a cute boy, which she had a bow on and a head full of hair. The vehicle itself was fine but we were disappointed with the choice as the option we originally picked was parked next to the one they gave us. Ive had better experiences at other car rental agencies. Ill continue to use the other agencies. I felt like I was at a car dealership.
Firstly, the signage is rather poor and we had some difficulties finding where to drop off a rented car. Then, to pick up a car, the line was 45 to 60 minutes, and by the time we got to the front of the line, it took about another 15 minutes for someone to be able to serve us. We had a reservation for a midsize SUV on Friday, July 13, 2018. After he checked for our reservation he told us to go outside and wait, and someone would drive the car up to us in a couple of minutes. If they had done that in a couple of minutes, this rating would be 2/5 instead of 1/5. We waited 15 minutes, and no one drove the car up. We asked them a couple of times if they had any other vehicles of the same size, to which they said no. They told us at the counter that we would have a Kia Sportage, I asked if they had any other options, they said not any other midsize SUVs but we could upgrade you for an extra $35. After waiting the 15 minutes for them to drive up the car we rented, I was super impatient and angry and asked if they had any larger vehicles, to which someone else said no. Someone lied somewhere, because if they didnt have any larger vehicles, how could the person at the counter have offered us an upgrade? Anyways, after another 5 minutes the car was ready.Anyways, total time spent renting a car was ~1 hour and 30 minutes. Too long.As far as compensation for the long wait, the only thing we were given was to bring the car back on a half tank of gas instead of full.
Budget gave me contradicting information during the booking process. I will never use them again or refer them. In fact, Enterprise will be my go to from now on. Any other car rental company would have never treated me the way I was treated by Budget and its employees.
Even though the placement of the rental office (lower level parking garage) its worth the convenience. The staff is friendly when checking the car out. When I checked the car in, on a holiday weekend, the attendance was efficient, and I didnt have to wait long at all. This is way more convenient that using a car rental at LAX, and you get the typically cheaper car rental found at airport locations.
We had an excellent experience with our Budget reservation at the John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana. Emanuel was courteous, friendly and patient with all my questions about the reservations additional insurance. Kudos to him and his staff for such good service when the customers themselves were heading off to enjoy the holiday! Well definitely be back.
Thank you! I was in a rush to meet friends on the day I arrived. Your staff was friendly, efficient and also recommended an upgrade which I readily accepted. They were obviously training a new staff member, and the training was going well. The delay was minimal and did not bother me a bit. The car was clean and above expectations. On my return, the process was so well thought out, that when it was completed, I asked the gentleman if there was anything else I needed to do!Thank you for helping me enjoy my vacation!
Took 1.5 hours to wait in line in a room with non-working ac! guy at the counter was nice and working as hard as he could, but he needed a couple more people helping him out. Didnt get anything like the carI reserved and it stunk of BO with outside dents and bad brakes. The rates might be cheaper, but its because they dont appear to spend money on vehicle maintenance or employees. First and last time using this company!
Called for assistance on the phone.. recd great service.Upon picking up the car..Jimil (Jamil) was very gracious and kind. He got us in the car and away we drove. When we returned the car, Brian assisted. He was also very kind.*I only have one suggestion... please make sure your customers know ahead of time... they must have the( fill up gas) receipt to hand to the person assisting with the return.
I called ahead to see about returning my car in Phoenix today rather than on the 29th in John Wayne airport. I was told that it would be a $75 one way fee plus the two days. Instead I was charged $350 and could have the car back either. I would not have returned it if the fee was that high. I was told the fee would be waived by the attendant but it was charged on my credit card.
For my week-long stay in Orange County, I needed a rental car and decided to go with Budget based on the prices and selection they were offering on their website. My selection was for a Ford Focus “or similar”, since this would have been adequate for my needs; I prefer to drive a small car but needed one with with 4 doors and a good amount of trunk space. On 7/3/19 my reservation was confirmed, for which I received a further confirmation/reminder on 7/5.Upon my arrival, what was offered to me was a Volkswagen Beetle, a 2-door. I knew that accommodating my luggage and passenger needs in a 2-door would have been very difficult, and said so to the representative who was helping me. Instead of giving me any other options within the category I had selected, he immediately proceeded to upsell me to a full-size car, which ended up being a Toyota Camry. He did not offer any other suggestions in the compact, economy, standard or mid-size price categories, so I was stuck. I realize that I was not guaranteed a Ford Focus exactly, but the crux of my issue with with this scenario is the misleading phrase “or similar”. Practically, I do not consider a 2-door to be “similar” to a 4-door. And besides, the specs listed for the car I reserved distinctly specified that the car, whatever make-model, would be in fact a 4-door; to me thats false advertising, plain & simple. In addition, here’s what I find especially interesting: going back to the Budget website and comparing prices for compact vs. standard/full-size cars, the difference is not $11 per day, which is what I was charged for the upgrade. The difference, as advertised on the website, is $10 TOTAL for a week-long rental. So, even adjusting for the upgrade in car category, exactly why was I paying an extra $67 suddenly? And the salesperson who helped me was not the lone con artist, his coworker was in on the ruse and pulled some magical strings to make me believe that he was giving me a deal. What a despicable racket. I dont know how people who do business in this way can live with themselves. This was a transparent bait-and-switch scenario. I feel that Budget took advantage of me and ripped me off. I should have gone straight to another rental car counter, but after a day of flying & running around, I did not have the time nor energy for going through the rigmarole of trying to get my money back and starting over, especially since I knew that my prospects of getting a reasonable deal elsewhere for the 4th of July weekend were not good (I suspect the salesman who was helping me was acutely aware of this also, and that may indicate a crucial element of their sales tactics in general). The car itself was fine, and there were no other issues. However, based on my experience, my word of caution to those who choose to rent from Budget is that if you purchase online, what you can expect is to be misled and massively upsold at the counter, and what you can’t expect is to end up with what was originally advertised to you, and any apparent price difference that led you to choose Budget over the others will be promptly made up for, and then some -- for a low-cost option, go with Alamo; they have never given me any such trouble.Needless to say, I will not be renting from Budget again, and I will dutifully steer anyone who asks my advice in almost any other direction. (As a final note, since this experience I have tried contacting them several times about my complaints and after more than a week have received no response at all.)
I pre-booked the car by paying 74$ for two days, however, Budget charged me 45$ more when i went to collect the car. When I was asking the representative about the charge details he was not aware about why these were being added to my bill. Also, the representative said that I would get a 2-door car because it has more space but when i reach my car spot its a 4-door car.
The service at SNA airport is typically very good. My only gripe with Budget (many locations- not just unique to SNA Airport) is the cars tend to be overly dirty and banged up. It makes it hard for when youre renting and doing a walk around of the vehicle to ensure all dents and scratches, etc were marked. In addition the Fastbreak kiosk here is not very efficient. I have been renting here a lot lately and as a Fastbreak member it really is not any help. The other day a lady who was NOT Fastbreak was in the line and got served before everyone and had no clue of her reservation, argued the price, argued the car she was getting, etc and the Fastbreak people, who just wanted keys and to go had to wait.. Fastbreak members have that loyalty for a reason- because we travel and rent cars often and just want the keys so we can insect vehicle and be on our way. But the Budget worker I had when I finally got helped was quick and efficient and friendly. I believe his name was Jaylen. Upon drop off this time Jaime and Phil were very helpful. There was a computer issue/glitch and they took care of some issues I had and made it easy to be patient as it took some time. But they both were very friendly and helpful. So thank you to them and the manager (Emanuel?) who was on duty as well.
They charged me $77 for a waiver cost that I didnt want. They told me it would just be a hold on my account but it ended up being a charge. Do not fall for this scam. Do not sign anything they give you without them explaining it in detail or they will rob you like they robbed me. They did everything else right. Car was in good condition and the Prius saved me money on gas and I had a decent rate. Still, wish they wouldnt have lied to me and as a result will no longer be using Budget after years of service. Theres other car rental places nearby with similar service
Indoor counter long lineup with only 1 staff. Other rental desks next to Budget had no lineups. Pick up was very easy once you are in the downstairs parkade. The signage for the vehicle return was a bit unclear so had to exit the parkade and drive around the airport terminal again. Attendant who took care of our return was pleasant to deal with. Our caravan with 10000 miles was clean. Probably wouldn’t rent from this Budget location again.
Furious. I will NEVER be using Budget again...I rented my car through Priceline for a week, because my car was stolen. My car was recovered the next day, so I called the reservation hotline. This is exactly what I said: I rented my car on Priceline, and I would like to know if I return my car early, if you will refund the differencefrom what I already paid. The gentleman (super sweet man, soundedPersian maybe, said his name was Alan) said that I would be able to. He couldntgive me details, but he said that I would have to check with the counterwhen I returned the car at John Wayne. At John Wayne, I checked with the young lady (again, very sweet brunettegirl), and she said that I would be refunded from Priceline, but therewas nothing that she could do as Priceline is a 3rd party vendor. Thismade sense. So I rolled out. Now, of course, Priceline says that a deal is a deal, and that since Iprepaid, they are not going to refund anything. I mean, come on. Is thatfair and in the contract? It is. But I never would have gone throughwith returning the car 5 days early if I had not been instructed by twoseparate employees at Budget that I would receive a refund fromPriceline. So I ask you, how is it that both of Budgets employees prompted me toreturn the car and go to Priceline for a refund? I cant tell if thiswas an unethical move or an ignorant move, but neither is forgivable. My position is that this is not a fair way to treat customers. Iunderstand that Budgets counterpoint is that, Rules are rules, but isthat really any way to treat the people who rent from you? Ultimately, why should I not receive a refund or a credit for the 5 unused days? $173 for aSunday at 1pm to Tuesday at 1pm rental? Come on. Again, I never would have returned the car if I had not been instructed to do so by 2 employees at Budget.Too many great rental car companies for me to worry about Budget.
Terrible experience picking up - would give 1 star for that (not enough staff for the amount of customers and they snuck in extra insurance, $17/day, I didnt want or ask for but didnt read the fine print when I was signing because I was in a hurry). Because my drop off experience was so wonderful - giving 5 stars. Drop off was fast and easy and the Budget employee who helped, Jaylen (sp?), was just a delight! Also location and proximity to gates/bag claim is really convenient.
I booked a car through Expedia and paid for insurance on Expedia however, the lady at the counter did not inform me of the same and I had to pay again for insurance. Expedia will not refund me the amount. Secondly, I had reserved a small car yet I was forced to pay for an suv. Im quite disappointed with your service. Plus the lady at the counter was quite rude and grouchy! You need to improve your customer service!
I really love using Budget but they get a 1 start for getting questions answered. Right now I am trying to get in touch with someone at the airport location and I cant. The agents on the line keep giving me the same phone tree number but all options take me back to the reservation line or some other department. I need an answer to my question before I travel. I may have to book with another company who actually can communicate with me. Ugh!
Never rent a car from this company Budget. They are lied, cheating, nonprofessional customer service. Theyre charging me $19.17 for 2 gallons of gas even I fill up the gas tank before return the car (may be you will be the next victim). I still have the final a receipt show the car Fuel Tank was Full from the Budget car rental during car return check-in. That guy said this is final bill you already to go. The lady on the phone when we call customer servive for many time, she said she did not care about that receipt, she just want to charging me for 2 gallons of gas if i dont show her my gas receipt from gas station. If the rate scale start from zero, then I will give them a zero instead one.
I prepaid for a rental car weeks before picking up my rental from SNA. As expected by other reviews, I waited over an hour in line (2 people were ahead of me). When it was my turn Dave informed me Id be driving a Mustang. I had prepaid of a luxury vehicle. I told Dave this and informed him Im driving with 4 people to San Francisco and the Mustang is unacceptable. He said I guess it will be a bit tight. Thanks Dave! I had to attend to immediate business so I took the car and offered a few choice words. A few hours later I drove back and was greet by Mohamed who switched my vehicle for a Ford Explorer. I feel bad that Mohamed had to do extra work, he was a very nice man. All in all, this place is a joke.
I travel 157 days out of the year so needless to say I have experienced a wide range of good and bad when renting cars during my travel. I find myself to be extremely tolerant of inconveniences that pop up during the normal course of business. However budget rental car has lied to me on more than three occasions, been caught inputting fraudulent charges into my bill and then lying about them and violate policies when it serves them while enforcing others that benefit their interest. What I found even more shocking was when I sought help through the customer service line all the way up to the corporate level they had absolutely no interest in assuming any responsibility even when I was able to provide them with the proof. This is my first review ever written because I find normally businesses shortcomings are unintentional however when it comes to budget rental cars ethical professionalism they absolutely have none. Protect yourself by avoiding renting from budget rental car at all cost.I wish i could give zero stars!!! Bryan,J
After arriving at John Wayne Airport, we stood in line over 2 HRS to get the rental car. It was only 2 HRS because half the other people in front of us left to rent with other companies. Yours was the only one with a line that did not move!! When we finally arrived at the desk, the agent said we have just learned to put up with this. This is NOT good customer service, nor anyway to keep agents working (who know what they are doing). What a waste for your company. Im sure your employee turn around is very high. After spending the time/money training someone and you allow this to happen. They get tempers, as the supervisor ended up raising his voice at us. Please bear in mind, we are traveling with 3 adults and two very young children. This whole experience left me feeling sick and having to change our plans with family for the rest of the day. This was totally unacceptable for all parties involved. You will not find me renting from Budget again.
Horrible Customer service and Unnecessary Fee charge( Felt like i was scammed) (They dont even pick up the phone)I have been renting cars at Santa Ana Airport for a while now with a lot of other car rental companies but never had such an experience till this. I had rented a car on Thursday night and had returned it before time the next day. Charged me twice the fee citing the extra charge as Fuel expense when in reality, i had turned it in with a full tank. Tried contacting them but they never pick up. Even tried calling the company beside them to obtain their other number and they do not pick up that one either. Have not yet resolved my issue yet and the only reason i found out about the charge because i was on hold with their national customer service for about half and hour. Extremely horrible.
I rented a mustang convertible or like. So after waiting 30 minutes with no lines for my rental they told me they only have a convertible jeep wrangler or I have to upgrade to the convertible mustang GT. So didnt get the like rental at all and had to pay more. $75.00 more a day. The good ol bait and switch. This is the reason I dont rent with Avis or Budget.
Horrible. About 6 people ahead of us and we waited an hour and a half. Once we got to the counter the lady who helped us was less than courteous and far from apologetic. We watched multiple employees take breaks, leaving just one person behind with a line of 15 plus people. I understand it can be busy on a holiday weekend but they couldnt care less if youre on vacation while theyre getting paid.Once we finally got to the car it was dirty and you could tell it had been smoked in. We will definitely go with another company next time.
Dont use this location if you want to be in and out in a reasonable time. Tried to pick up our car at 8 PM on a Friday night. We waited in line for 45 minutes. Employees kept walking in and out taking phone calls instead of helping customers. Finally when we were helped we were told our car wasnt ready because it didnt have gas in it and it wasnt cleaned. Ridiculous!
After waiting in line for 30 minutes, they sent us to another line. After another 20 minutes they told me my car isnt available yet despite being over an hour after my pick up time. Now the agent has offered a smaller car as an upgrade. This is a ridiculous excuse for customer service. Since when is a 5 seat vehicle an upgrade versus an 8 seat vehicle. Now after an hour i have a car.....

2022-03-20First I would love to commend the employee that took care of me when I came to the counter for the purpose of the sheer joy and excitement she showed. She is the only reason for 2 stars. After that the rest was downhill. My charge was suppose to be $596.00 for my rental as this is what I placed my reservation with. But somehow at the end of the transaction I got an invoice totalling $886.00 which was ridiculous but the only Chevy Tahoe Luxury vehicle available. Since we were here for our daughters Cheer competition I decided to take it and deal with the paperwork later. So when we went downstairs to go pick up the truck, you have to figure out how to get there yourselves. There is a Yellow walkway that points you to all directions in the oncoming traffic which is dangerous if you have kids. When we got to the counter after figuring it out the employee handed me the keys to a vehicle and said here you go. She said go to Number 321. When I asked what she meant she stated that I had to walk down the driveway to go get my own vehicle with my entire family. We walked to Number 321 which was not the vehicle I ordered it was the smalled version Tahoe which has little space for luggage. As we were getting in we noticed the vehicle was dirty from not being washed and inside was leftover food. When I walked back to ask the employee if the vehicles are washed and vacuumed between rentals. She stated that Yes they were. I then told her that my vehicle did not get cleaned. Sh wanted to give me an Expedition which I did not want. So I asked if they could wash and vacuum the truck which an employee took the truck around to another section of the parking lot. I said jokingly to my wife that I would not doubt it if they just take it and pretend to clean it. When they returned the truck it was not washed nor cleaned as the muffin was still there. I was so upset but had to bite my tongue and ask the employee to atleast take out the muffin. I will never rent a truck from them again. I actually recommend if you are going to Disneyland. An Uber will actully cost you about $30.00 to take you there which will save you $800 for a rental. Obviously saying you dont need to travel other places. Also fi up the Gasoline as they charge $10.00 a gallon if they have to put gasoline.

2022-06-13The staff at John Wayne SNA are friendly and profesional. They are quick to direct folks to both Avis and Budget stations. Been renting for many years there now.I’ve rented thru Expedia and the staff explain the charges and options. They are not pushy and treat us well.I was given many choices for my rental suv. I preferred the Nissan Rogue.Car was ready to go at the stall they pointed me to. No issues to load. Car was clean. Air conditioner very cold too which was great.Drop off is quick and easy as well.

2022-03-22The vehicle we requested was not available - midsized 4 door truck. We were “upgraded” to a 4 door Jeep pickup truck. The car was in good shape, and overall experience was average. My one complaint was that the service tech at the desk sold me a tank a gas and did not properly explain that you are charged for the full tank even if not fully used. I had asked her if we would be prorated if not fully used and she said yes. This was not explained properly.

2021-11-01They rented us a VERY poorly maintained vehicle!!! I called John Wayne Airport, and a reservation. When I showed up to pick up the SUV, I joined the FastBreak program. Once I got to the counter, the rep was very nice to let me know I would get a free upgrade from the Chevy Tahoe to the Escalade at no additional cost, although I had requested the luxury anyway. When ready to pay, I told him I would use my company Bank of America Debit Card. He told I could not upgrade to the luxury SUV and his manager didnt give an option to pay for it with any type of additional deposit, which I was willing and able to do.Since I needed to get to a meeting, I just took the Chevy. That wouldve been enough for a bad review, but it got worse once I drove off to find out that the vehicle was in poor maintenance condition! The back tires were under inflated, the driver door didnt close properly, creating anoying wind noise... it shook while idling as if needed a tune up, it trembled in the freeway and worst of all... I nearly hit a pedestrian due to the windows being so weathered that they wouldnt be cleaned and the wipers were so wasted that they didnt help any! I had to cut my night trip short because the car was unsafe to drive like that!

2022-05-24Team at the counter was actually quite helpful. I had an issue with the car that was assigned to me, since the one I reserved was unavailable. They showed me several other options and we looked at the one I had been assigned to see if issue could be resolved.Ultimately I feel like I should have received a car that was more similar to the one I reserved (a small SUV with hatchback) instead of a sedan. But the one I got was spotless, and did not smell, so I went with it.Kudos to the duo at the counter, especially the woman and the manager, who were terrific.

2022-04-17We recently rented a car through United Airlines while booking our air reservation. During the flight to John Wayne airport we were diverted to LAX. During the flight I contacted the United rental car partner and told them I would be 2 hours late. That was the right this to do…correct? During the flight United car rentals responded by saying they therefore had to cancel and rebook my car rental reservation and it would be $200 more!!! Yep they held me ransom while in the air I had to agree to $200 more just to make sure I had a rental car when I landed. Never rent a car through United.

2022-01-01The car i reserved over two weeks before the trip wasnt available when I showed up to pick it up. I wasnt notified of this until I was at the desk. Luckily I was able to downsize. I was offered toll coverage and I denied it. Salesman asked another worker if I needed it in San Francisco and Sacramento and he said absolutely. I went through one toll point. False advice to make me spend more money.

2022-05-20Id like to recognize Nicole at this Budget location in the airport. She provided outstanding service that made our day. We had a car reservation at a competitor location in the airport that turned out to be a nightmare. Fortunately we had a back-up reservation at Budget, but for a much later time in the day. Nicole was able to locate a car for us that was perfect for our needs and we were on our way. She was friendly, professional and a joy to work with. When flying into SNA, Nicole & Budget will be our first choice.

2022-01-05I was told that I was completely paid upfront, I upgraded and paid for the upgrade at the time I picked up the car, yet when I brought the car back I was charged an additional $280 with no explanation. When I asked for an explanation as to why I was being overcharged I was told because thats what the machine says. Then I was told that it would be charged whether I like it or not and if I have a problem go ahead and call but good luck getting a call back. I travel twice a month for business and always rent a car, never again from your companies.

2022-04-26We waited in line for 30 minutes to get checked in. The car looked like it had been to hell and back. It was not clean and seemed like the wheels were ready to fall off. We had to make a small change to our rental mid trip and they charged us up the @$$. I would never rent a car from Budget. Just save yourself the trouble and pay $10 more for Enterprise or Hertz or a real rental company.
